It’s the holiday season, and there’s a lot to see in Disney World! Christmas Tree You can visit Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party or Jollywood Nights if you’ve got the funds to check out a hard-ticketed event. Or you could do something free and enjoy the Christmas Tree Stroll at Disney Springs. But one of our favorite seasonal offerings is the gingerbread displays around the Disney Resorts! We’ve already checked out the annual gingerbread house display at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and the gingerbread castle at the Contemporary, but now we’re heading over to Disney’s BoardWalk to see what they’ve got on display this year! There it is! Each year, the BoardWalk puts up a gingerbread display inspired by…well, the BoardWalk! For the past few years, it has been a model of the BoardWalk Deli, and this year’s follows that model as well. It’s the deli! The gingerbread model is even made with a matching BoardWalk Deli sign and the iconic red awnings over the windows and doors. And speaking of windows…we spot some Disney pals hiding in them! All made of sweets. Mickey and Minnie are in the kitchen on the side, baking up some delicious-looking holiday treats. How cute! Mickey in the kitchen! Each window has a Disney character shadow in it, and the roof is dusted with powdered sugar to look like snow. So many character details The details on this display are absolutely incredible. Just look at that clock! The details are impressive. There are a couple of Mickey wreaths spread throughout, and they’ve got tiny candy decor as well. Mickey wreath! The display is a pretty large size, filling up the entire table. Unlike the gingerbread cottage at the Grand Floridian, this one is not actually the size of a small house. From the side And if you’re interested in some gingerbread sweets and treats, you should know that the snack counter is only open from 2PM-9:30PM daily. No cookies for breakfast this year! The treat table Their menu here is fairly limited, compared to some of the other gingerbread spots. You can get the classic gingerbread shingle or loaf, peppermint bark, the Mickey Caramel Corn Cookie, a sugar cookie, or hot cocoa. Menu And during select dates and times, you can find a pastry chef in the BoardWalk lobby to answer your questions about the display! Today, Pastry Chef Monique Perez was there from 3:30-5PM. Meet a chef! Most of the gingerbread displays also offer a small selection of merchandise. At the BoardWalk, they had gingerbread display-inspired pins… Gingerbread pin …as well as hot cocoa Christmas ornaments. How cute are these? Ornaments We’ve got more displays to enjoy in the coming days, so make sure to stay tuned to DFB for updates on all of them. It truly IS the most wonderful time of the year! Fun facts about the display! Keep following along for more holiday news and updates. We’ve got you covered! Click Here to Check Out the Grand Floridian Gingerbread Display! It’s all in the details. March! The 2024 Holiday season at Walt Disney World launched in earnest last weekend with the first dates of this year’s Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. The event featured many of the traditional elements that have made it a major part of the Holidays for many families in the last several decades. However, this year we noticed a few minor differences. One of Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party’s major offerings is Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade. The parade is described by Disney as one where guests can “snap memorable photos of dancing gingerbread men, marching toy soldiers and beloved Disney Characters as they float by, waving hello. There’s even a special appearance by Santa Claus—riding in to wish everyone a Merry Christmas.” While the Once Upon a Christmastime Parade is still a part of the party, being staged twice nightly at 8:30PM and 11:00PM on party night, our reporters noticed a few minor changes this year. First off, the pre-parade music loop has changed from “Christmas is Coming” to “Frosty the Snowman.” The parade is a must! Next, the decorative balls carried by the elf performers have changed. This year, they’re red with green and white stripes. Note the balls. Finally, Queen Elsa (of Frozen fame) is now wearing her special seasonal meet & greet outfit while on her parade float. These minor changes likely don’t alter the experience of Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmas Parade for the majority of guests, but they’re definitely recognizable to those who spot the little details. Stay tuned to DFB for more on Disney’s holiday celebrations. Disney Legend and Walt Disney Imagineering creative icon, Marty Sklar always said, “A good idea never goes away!” Early concepts for Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort included a multi-story terraced structure surrounded by three-story buildings along the shores of Seven Seas Lagoon. This idea will come to fruition at last on December 17 with the opening of the Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows. To see where the idea began, let’s jump back to 1966, when Walt Disney unveiled plans for the expansive Florida Project featuring a theme park, hotels, recreation areas, E.P.C.O.T. and so much more. Disney’s area included “theme resort hotels” allowing visitors to stay at a variety of hotels and motels with distinct international themes all in one district, including a South Seas-inspired resort. After Walt’s passing, Imagineers at WED Enterprises carried on his vision, evolving the Florida property into the “Vacation Kingdom of the World.” The new concept of this destination included the creation of Seven Seas Lagoon, providing a beautiful open space for recreational amenities like boating and surfing. Five international theme resorts representing unique cultures from around the world were designed to line the lagoon like “jewels on a necklace.” The resorts were designed to showcase the architectural expressions of their international destinations, including iconic towering structures, using the open space of the lagoon to create unique visual and thematic identities. The original design for the tower at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort would have been modern for the 1970s and reminiscent of the luxury hotels found on Waikiki Beach. Developing the Island Tower addition now has given Imagineers an opportunity to celebrate past and present Polynesian visual culture, including the use of natural materials, intricately designed patterns inspired by Polynesian tattoos, and a color scheme that is modern and complementary to the adjacent Longhouses. Drawing inspiration from the lush, landscaped terraces of the original Polynesian tower vision, four tropical terrace gardens have been designed into the new tower. These vibrant spaces will offer intimate seating areas, where Members can go to gather amidst colorful artwork and foliage. The tower boasts magnificent views across Seven Seas Lagoon, with a panorama looking towards Magic Kingdom Park and beyond. The unobstructed views from the lobby level will be impressive whether you’re enjoying the pool or dining at Wailulu Bar & Grill. The newest addition to Disney Vacation Club will truly evoke the spirit of Polynesia, blending its natural elements with traditions of wayfinding and Disney’s signature storytelling. Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows is designed to inspire new journeys for our guests, and honors the rich legacy of the past, fulfilling the vision first dreamed up by Imagineers decades ago. For the past several months, we’ve been watching Disney news closely to see who could be the next leader of the company. The Walt Disney Company headquarters in California When Bob Iger came back to The Walt Disney Company in 2022, one of his main goals was to find a worthy successor for his role as CEO. Since then, many names have popped up as potential candidates for the role, some inside the company and some from without. But now, we can add a new candidate to the list. According to the Wall Street Journal, the newest candidate for the role of Disney CEO is Andrew Wilson, who is currently the CEO of game company Electronic Arts. According to people familiar with the matter, Disney is using the firm Heidrick & Struggles to help vet potential external options. ©Reuters Incoming Disney board chairman and former Morgan Stanley CEO James Gorman is in charge of the search for Bob Iger’s successor. These latest developments are a sign that he wants a range of candidates. We’ve seen a relatively short list of contenders for the position so far, but that list will likely lengthen before Iger’s replacement is officially named in 2026. ©The Walt Disney Company Andrew Wilson has been involved with Disney in a few areas in recent years. In 2018, he interviewed for the top job at ESPN before it went to Jimmy Pitaro (who is also on the shortlist for CEO candidates). While Bob Chapek was Disney’s CEO, Wilson was supposedly in talks about selling Electronic Arts to Disney, but the deal never went through. There was also a failed deal that could’ve resulted in a partnership between Electronic Arts and ESPN. ©ESPN Before Gorman was put in charge of the CEO search, the main four contenders were all Disney employees. The list still includes Dana Walden, Alan Bergman, Josh D’Amaro, and Jimmy Pitaro. We’ll be interested to see if more names are added as the search expands. 2025 will be a critical year for vetting candidates. If you’re planning a trip to Disneyland Resort, you might have a hard time deciding where to eat. Downtown Disney The parks, hotels, and Downtown Disney are home to dozens of restaurants with different themes and cuisines, and it can be a challenge to choose which one will best suit your group. Over the years, we’ve tried them all, and we definitely have our favorites…but soon there will be NEW additions to check out! Downtown Disney has just announced TWO new restaurants coming soon, as part of the shopping and dining district’s major expansion. First, there’s Arthur & Sons Steak and Bourbon, which will be a classic steakhouse. It will offer “prime cuts of beef, fresh seafood, sandwiches and salads, and an impressive selection of bourbon and inventive cocktails.” It’s also home to a center bar. ©Disney Next door, you’ll find Pearl’s Roadside BBQ, a quick service restaurant offering pulled pork, beef brisket, smoked heritage turkey with house-made sauces, craft beers, and moonshine cocktails. These two restaurants will be built on the former footprint of Tortilla Jo’s, and work will begin soon. ©Disney Outside of those two dining options, we also got more details about previously announced restaurants. Parkside Market will open this winter on the west end of the district, and it will have four distinct dining locations under the same roof. It will be home to the following: Vista Parkside Market, which will serve signature craft cocktails and mocktails Seoul Sister, which will be a fast-casual modern eatery serving Korean-style rice bowls Sip & Sonder, which will serve lattes, fresh treats, frozen drinks and small bites GG’s Chicken Shop, which will serve chicken sandwiches, salads and classic dinner table sides ©Disney We also got a sneak peek at Porto’s Bakery & Cafe! At the bakery and cafe, you’ll be able to pick up “signature Cheese Rolls, Potato Balls and other favorite goodies.” But if you want an elevated experience, this will be the first Porto’s location with sit-down service and a full bar. ©Disney The sneak peek at the interior of the space looks incredibly cozy and warm, and we can’t wait to check it out! ©Disney We’ll make sure to keep you in the loop with any news from Disney about upcoming restaurants or additions in Downtown Disney. Hoist yer colors, mateys! A new Pirates of the Caribbean tavern is coming to Magic Kingdom and we can’t wait to head ashore for some much-deserved sustenance. Pirates of the Caribbean in Disney World’s Magic Kingdom That’s right — Disney announced that a new pirate-themed lounge would be joining the dining lineup at Magic Kingdom, and while we don’t have too many details about it yet, we do have plenty of concept art! We recently got a new look at this upcoming space and we can’t help but speculate wildly about what it could mean. The brand-new Pirates of the Caribbean lounge coming to Magic Kingdom sometime in 2025 is a first-of-its-kind experience that “will extend the story of Pirates of the Caribbean.” We’ve seen plenty of concept art for this new spot in the past… An all-new lounge themed to Pirates of the Caribbean will open at Magic Kingdom in 2025. ©Disney …but this new piece of concept art Disney recently released has us even more excited! We love the dark yet tropical vibe we’re seeing here, and we think we’ve spotted some clues that might give us details about what we can expect from this space. ©Disney Quite a bit of speculation has been going around about whether or not the new Pirates tavern will serve alcohol or not. Table service restaurants are the only places that currently serve alcohol in Magic Kingdom, and Disney has referred to this space as a bar or lounge which connotes alcohol. We’re anticipating something similar to Oga’s Cantina at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, where both alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks are served along with light bites of food. And, this lady drinking out of what looks like a souvenir skull cup seems to support that argument! ©Disney Disney has previously mentioned that this space would feature some snacks and more, but it looks like we’ve got further confirmation that’s the case — we can see a plate of food being served in the background here! ©Disney We think we may have also noticed another little Easter egg hiding in this concept art — the East India Trading Company logo! This is a nod to the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, and the very real East India Company from back in the day. ©Disney We’ll be on the lookout for every single announcement about this new lounge since we can’t wait for it to open! We’ve got some hot news out of Downtown Disney! Downtown Disney The shopping and dining district at Disneyland Resort is in a bit of a rebuild with new restaurants and shops on the horizon. We’ve been keeping track of every change and now, Disney has announced some official opening dates! We knew that several new shops were coming to Downtown Disney this winter, but now we know exactly when! On December 6th, 2024, both Avengers Reserve and the D-Lander Shop will officially open for visitors! So what’s in store at these new shops? Well, the Avengers Reserve will be the perfect place to shop for Marvel fans, of course! You’ll be able to shop for comic books, collectibles, Super Hero apparel, toys, and more. Disney says the collections will be “refreshed regularly” so there should be something new each time you visit. That’s not all! At the entrance of the store, Disney says a 9-foot sculpture of the Incredible Hulk will be smashing through the wall with his friend Spider-Man on top of the building. How cool is that? ©Disney The D-Lander Shop brings a different vibe to Downtown Disney with bright colors and a modern vibe. There will be a lounge area as well as fitting rooms with fun artwork! This is where you’ll find all of your favorite brands that collaborate with Disney including Kate Spade, Dooney & Bourke, and there’s even a dedicated Pandora jewelry shop inside. ©Disney Don’t forget — Disney Wonderful World of Sweets is also opening sometime this winter, but for now, Disney has not said exactly when. We’ll be on the lookout for that news, especially because we need to know when we can grab Werther’s Caramel popcorn in Downtown Disney! ©Disney The walls around it came down recently, so it’s only a matter of time! We want some sweets! We also can’t forget about Parkside Market (also opening sometime this winter)! We’ve known that Seoul Sister, Sip & Sonder, and GG’s Chicken Shop were coming to this food hall-type area. ©Disney The news here though is the name of the second-story bar — Vista Parkside Market! This will have views of Downtown Disney with signature craft cocktails and mocktails. ©Disney Whew! We know these Downtown Disney changes can be a lot to keep up with… but that’s what we’re here for! There’s a lot coming to Disney World in 2025! Magic Kingdom We’ve got construction beginning on the Villains land and Cars-themed land coming to Magic Kingdom, construction on a Monsters Inc. land beginning in Hollywood Studios, an updated Test Track ride with a new theme coming to EPCOT, and construction begins to turn DinoLand U.S.A. into Tropical Americas. And that’s not even all of it! There is an interesting trend though that we’re noticing with some of these announcements — why have no restaurants been announced but two new lounges are on their way? Currently, there are two new lounges set to arrive in Disney World in 2025. The first is a new Pirates Tavern Lounge coming to Magic Kingdom in Adventureland. We don’t have a set opening date or solid timeline for it just yet, but we do know it’ll be in early to mid 2025. An all-new lounge themed to Pirates of the Caribbean will open at Magic Kingdom in 2025. ©Disney Then, we have the Spaceship Earth Lounge coming to EPCOT. Again, no specific timeline for this yet, but we do know that it’s set to arrive in 2025. This one we know will be set somewhere close to the existing attraction, but we aren’t sure exactly where just yet. ©Disney So two lounges, that’s great…but no restaurants? While lounges are great and we think many more people would enjoy them if they stopped by, restaurants are certainly more popular for families, couples, and other guests. Will we really not see any new restaurants in 2025? ©Disney The truth is that yes, we may not see any new restaurants OPEN in 2025, but it’s highly possible that Disney will be putting new restaurants inside these new lands they’re building — we’ve already seen some new dining locations in the concept art for the new Monsters Inc. land and know it’s a high probability a lot of the existing dining buildings in DinoLand U.S.A. will be reused with the new theming. Disney wouldn’t announce these just yet because they’re still working on the lands as a whole! ©Disney It would also be highly unusual to NOT see restaurants in the new Cars-themed land and Villains land. Villains land will be an entirely new section of the park that will majorly benefit from having dining locations themed to the area. While the existing area the Cars-themed land is going in doesn’t have any restaurants (aside from the mostly-always-closed Aunt Polly’s location on Tom Sawyer Island), this is another area that would likely benefit from at least a themed snack stand or quick service restaurant. Coming Coming to Frontierland at Magic Kingdom, a new area themed to Pixar Animation Studios’ “Cars” will leave Radiator Springs and head to the wilderness with two new attractions including an off-road race. Bottom line? We’re almost sure we’ll be getting some new restaurant announcements but likely not until closer to the end of 2025 at the earliest. While construction is beginning on these lands next year, construction takes a long time (as we’ve seen many times before), and Disney won’t reveal everything they have planned at the start. We’re looking forward to hearing about what new spots we’ll be able to try in the coming years, and you know we’ll keep you updated on them all, so be sure to stay tuned to DFB for all the latest Disney dining news! There’s a NEW restaurant in Disney World! The Cake Bake Shop The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers recently opened at Disney’s BoardWalk, and it originally made waves with its high prices. But after some trial meals and lowering the prices on the menu, they finally had a grand opening, and we got to stop by to try several of the items on the menu. Even though we had a few meals there, we were waiting for one special offering that the restaurant promised…and now it’s coming soon! When The Cake Bake Shop was announced, it was revealed that the restaurant would offer an afternoon tea service. And now we’ve got the details on this new dining option! The Cake Bake Shop The Roses of Gold Afternoon Tea is now listed on the Disney World website, and reservations can be made by calling (407) 574-3040 between 10AM and 4PM or emailing concierge@thecakebakeshop.com. Space is limited and reservations are required. The Cake Bake Shop When you arrive for the afternoon tea, a dedicated server will show you a “meticulously curated selection of distinguished teas — crafted in collaboration with Dammann Frères” to choose from for your meal. You’ll be able to try as many as you want! A table at the Cake Bake Shop While you sip your tea, you’ll get to enjoy the restaurant’s homemade scones and the Roses of Gold tray, which is decked out with various desserts and finger sandwiches. The entire experience is $95 per adult and $65 per child, so it’s definitely not cheap. But it could be a good experience for a special occasion. The Cake Bake Shop The online menu lists four different adult sandwich options, as well as the orange cranberry scone. ©Disney There are also three different child sandwich options that can be brought out, and six different patisserie options from the bakery. Sounds like quite the spread! ©Disney We’ll make sure to go try out this new offering soon and let you know what we think! We’ve been waiting for an afternoon tea option in Disney World since the tea room at the Grand Floridian Resort still hasn’t reopened. Stay tuned to DFB for more updates! Okay, so if you’re planning a Disney World trip in 2025, well, you’ve got a LOT to look forward to, and that includes a lot of NEW things. Magic Kingdom If you haven’t been to Disney World in the past year or so, you’ve got some new restaurants to check out (like The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers and Blue Ribbon Corn Dogs). Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Magic Kingdom is still also pretty new. We’ve seen new shops open up in Disney Springs recently, as well. However, a LOT of NEW things will be opening for the FIRST TIME EVER in Disney World in 2025. So here’s what’s coming to Disney World in 2025. Magic Kingdom Disney Starlight Magic Kingdom is getting a nighttime parade called Disney Starlight that will feature floats all lit up for the night with some of Disney’s most iconic movies, including Encanto, Moana, and Peter Pan. Disney said the parade would be “using the latest technology to tell new stories about the characters you love.” ©Disney Disney Starlight will be “brought to life by the magic of the Blue Fairy” from the Disney animated classic, Pinocchio. The parade is expected to premiere in summer 2025. Learn more about Disney Starlight Pirates of the Caribbean Tavern A new Pirates of the Caribbean Tavern is coming to Magic Kingdom! This lounge will be a “first-of-its-kind experience will extend the story of Pirates of the Caribbean.” The tavern will bring together pirates of all ages to “gather to tell their tales!” The Barker Bird, who used to greet guests at the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, will also be part of the experience. ©Disney This “rambunctious watering hole will offer a welcoming haven for all pirate-kind, big and small, and everyone in between.” Expect it to open sometime in 2025. Here’s more about the tavern! EPCOT New Test Track A brand new version of Test Track is coming to EPCOT! Disney is collaborating with Chevrolet, the ride’s sponsor, to celebrate the spirit of innovation while also looking forward to the human “drive” for a brighter tomorrow. The new version of the ride is expected to look at past, present, and future with the queue having six distinct exhibits. ©Disney The new version of the ride will feature new show scenes featuring technological advances that show “how our lifestyles and relationships to mobility connect everyone.” It’s set to open in 2025. Here’s more about Test Track’s opening timeline Spaceship Earth Lounge We’ll admit we were a little confused when Disney first announced a Spaceship Earth lounge because we thought there would be a lounge IN Spaceship Earth. But instead, we’re getting a lounge in an undisclosed location that’s themed to Spaceship Earth — okay, we get it now (although a lounge inside Spaceship Earth would’ve been AMAZING). ©Disney The lounge will feature colors and design elements that are inspired by Spaceship Earth, and we can imagine there will be a fun drinks menu with Spaceship Earth-themed drinks. We hope one of them is named “Thank the Phoenicians.” The new lounge is set to open in 2025 More about the Spaceship Earth Lounge Disney’s Hollywood Studios Villains Show Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy will be going away to make room for a brand new Villains show in Hollywood Studios. The show will transform the theater into the “mysterious, reflective realm of the Magic Mirror.” You can expect to see some classic Disney villains like Cruella de Vil, Captain Hook, Maleficent, and more “breaking through the glass” to come on stage to perform. ©Disney Disney is, obviously, in its villains era (especially with an entire Villains land coming to Magic Kingdom) and we are here for it. The villains show is set to open in summer 2025. Learn more about the villains show “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure” Hollywood Studios is also getting a brand new Little Mermaid show that will replace the closed Voyage of the Little Mermaid show. The new show will feature live actors, puppets, digital animation, and live motion capture all blended together to replicate the story’s underwater setting. ©Disney The story will also be re-told almost entirely from Ariel’s point of view and will feature two songs that weren’t in the previous show: “Daughters of Triton” and “Kiss the Girl.” Although the new show was set to open in fall 2024, Disney delayed that opening until summer 2025. Check out a look at the new show! Disney’s Animal Kingdom Zootopia: Better Zoogether! It’s A Bug Life, which is inside the Tree of Life, will be going away to be replaced by a brand new show, Zootopia: Better Zoogether! The new show will follow some of our fave Zootopia characters like Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde, in a production that “will take guests on an adventure through different biomes seen in the film.” This new show is set to debut in the winter 2025. Learn more about the new Zootopia show! Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort Island Tower Disney’s all new DVC tower, Island Tower, will be opening at the end of December 2024, so we had to include it on the list because it will still be VERY new in 2025. The 10-story tower will feature rooms perfect for groups of all sizes. It will also have its own swimming pool, as well as a quick-service restaurant. Island Tower construction Booking for the new rooms are available now to everyone, so if you’d like to stay there in 2025, you can! SEE INSIDE the NEW Rooms at Disney’s Polynesian Tower in Disney World So if you’re going to Disney World in 2025, there’s a lot of new stuff you have to look forward to! With even MORE being added to the parks, you’ll probably want to form a game plan BEFORE your trip so you can prioritize the new stuff you want to check out! It’s the holiday season, and the Christmas-themed treats abound! Magic Kingdom In the past several days, we’ve been hustling all across Disney World to try everything from gingerbread to ice cream to savory seasonal snacks. There’s going to be PLENTY for you to try if you’re heading to the parks soon! And now, we’ve got to share two treats we tasted in Magic Kingdom. Mickey Chocolate Peppermint Sandwich Cookie In bakery cases around Disney World, including at Big Top Treats, you’ll find the new Mickey Chocolate Peppermint Sandwich Cookie for $7.79. This is very similar to the mint chocolate version we’ve seen in the past, except it’s holiday-themed! The new cookie! We ended up liking this one better than its mint cousin! It has a great peppermint flavor in the whipped filling, and the cookie held up a lot better for us than when we tried the original. The chocolate cookie is a little crumbly, but it’s almost Oreo-like in flavor. The cookie If you’re a fan of the peppermint and chocolate combo, you might want to give this a try! Holiday Cookie Popcorn The newest popcorn mix available at Main Street Confectionery is the Holiday Cookie Popcorn for $16.99. This mix is made with caramel popcorn layered with M&Ms, crushed ginger snap cookies, marshmallows, and milk chocolate drizzle. So festive! Holiday Cookie Popcorn This is definitely one of the most festive-looking treats we’ve seen with those iconic red and green M&Ms, and we had several people stop and ask us where we got it! The caramel and chocolate flavors blend really well together, but the one area where this might be divisive is the ginger snap cookies. The mix! If you love ginger snaps, this might be your new favorite treat, but they’re pretty big chunks (larger than the other elements of the mix), so it’s not quite as cohesive as some of the other popcorn blends. It definitely feels like a Christmas-y treat though, and we thoroughly enjoyed it! Deliciousness That’s a wrap on the new snacks in Magic Kingdom for now! Is it just me or are we seeing a lot of Disney IP at EPCOT nowadays? Spaceship Earth I mean, we have Anna and Elsa in the Norway pavilion. We also have Moana kicking it at the park, and on top of that, we even have a certain rat hanging out in the France pavilion. So what about the Mexico pavilion? Well, let’s talk about where ‘Coco’ is and why it hasn’t taken the pavilion over. As we were saying, you might have wondered why ‘Coco’ hasn’t made a full-blown appearance in the Mexico Pavilion. The film seems like the perfect fit. It celebrates Mexican culture, traditions like Día de los Muertos, and has a colorful visual style that would look incredible in the World Showcase, but as far as we can see, aside from some occasional visits by Miguel, ‘Coco’ is, for all intents and purposes, no where to be found. Mexico Pavilion at EPCOT So, let’s talk about why ‘Coco’ hasn’t taken over the Mexico Pavilion. The Three Caballeros Are Still Holding Down the Fort For starters, we can’t forget about The Three Caballeros. This classic trio has been a part of the Mexico Pavilion since 2007. Now, sure, “The Three Caballeros” isn’t exactly Disney’s most well-known property in 2024, but this attraction has been a staple in EPCOT for a while. It’s a quirky, nostalgic ride that we appreciate for its throwback vibe and classic Disney animation. Gran Fiesta Tour starring The Three Caballeros Replacing The Three Caballeros would mean Disney would be removing a bit of EPCOT’s history, and while ‘Coco’ might seem like a guaranteed crowd-pleaser, maybe Disney is hesitant to completely overhaul something that holds sentimental value for many of us. The Three Caballeros Even though “The Three Caballeros” ride may not draw the same crowds as a potential ‘Coco’ ride, it has a legacy at EPCOT that resonates with many of us who appreciate the original park attractions. So, in a way, keeping The Three Caballeros feels like a nod to Disney’s roots. Budget Priorities It’s no secret that Disney’s had a massive EPCOT overhaul, and this transformation has been a big investment. Additionally, you’ve got the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind coaster, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure in the France Pavilion, and the Moana-inspired Journey of Water walkthrough, Disney’s clearly been funneling resources into some high-profile, high-cost projects. Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure When you look at the scope and budget of these recent additions, it makes sense that Disney might be holding off on adding ‘Coco’ to the Mexico Pavilion (at least for now). Theming an attraction to Coco would mean a significant rework of the pavilion’s current ride and maybe even parts of the pavilion itself. For example, they’d likely want to add ‘Coco’-inspired decor, animatronics, and possibly even scenes from the movie, and we know all of that wouldn’t come cheap. Looking Good! And as much as fans love Coco, Disney’s already spread its budget across a wide array of projects. Between park renovations, new lands, and expensive new attractions, adding Coco might just not be at the top of the to-do list right now. Plus, after the economic impact of the pandemic, Disney has reportedly become more strategic with its spending. In the grand scheme of things, revamping a nostalgic EPCOT ride might not be as high on the list as other park expansions and new lands that are proven crowd-pullers. Will Coco Eventually Come to the Mexico Pavilion? Honestly, it’s anyone’s guess. Maybe Disney is trying to keep ‘Coco’s presence mainly in Disneyland, or they’re waiting to tie a new ‘Coco’ attraction into a big sequel announcement. Either way, Disney hasn’t given any official word on plans for ‘Coco’ in EPCOT, but it’s certainly possible we could see it make a more permanent presence in the future. Miguel!
