  2. What’s happening, Disney?! Main Street, U.S.A. is closed in the Magic Kingdom, the Festival of Fantasy parade is canceled, and the park is completely sold out of Park Pass reservations. Something BIG is happening! Holidays in Disney World Well, there’s actually a perfectly reasonable explanation for it all. On November 9th, Disney’s ABC film crews were spotted in Magic Kingdom. Now that the holiday season is here, we know exactly what’s going on: ABC is filming for the annual Disney Parks Magical Christmas Day Parade show! Want to see what a sold-out park looks like on the first day of filming? Let’s take a look! We arrived at Magic Kingdom bright and early and noticed that the My Disney Experience app stated, “There are no showtimes today” for the Festival of Fantasy parade. ©Disney Additionally, our view of the Cinderella Castle looked different. The castle area was blocked by bushes, and there were large lights pointed towards the stage. The Cinderella Castle looks different! Here’s a closer peek at the stage. Hey, it looks like a crew of Cast Members was hard at work preparing for the stage! Film crew in Magic Kingdom It really felt like we were getting a behind-the-scenes look at how the show is made! How interesting! Now, what exactly is Disney filming? Each year, Disney airs a special show on ABC to celebrate the holidays! In fact, the show is described as an “annual Christmas celebration with heartwarming stories, dazzling celebrity performances and of course, the Christmas Day Parade!” It’s our one chance to see the iconic Once Upon a Christmastime Parade on TV. On November 9th, Disney was filming a daytime performance of its Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party parade for the show. Once Upon a Christmastime Parade Naturally, most people tried to stake out a spot on Main Street, U.S.A., before the parade, but Disney had other plans. Around noon, Cast Members started directing people away from Main Street. The area was reserved for Cast Members who registered for special parade viewing. Crowds in The Emporium store Main Street, U.S.A. was totally closed off to those without special parade access. Luckily, Frontierland and Liberty Square were open for anyone in the park to catch the parade. If you head over to Frontierland, you’ll have a great view of the parade; in fact, the parade starts next to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, so you’ll be among the first to see the show. Frontierland parade viewing We’ll be sure to update this post with more details as the parade begins in Magic Kingdom! In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more. OK, we won’t keep you in suspense any longer: it’s about the new Villains land coming to Magic Kingdom. Disney just dropped a few more details about that new expansion! Disney blew our MINDS in August when the company announced that the ONE THING WE’VE ALWAYS WANTED TO SEE IN DISNEY WORLD is actually happening. That announcement was that a land themed around Disney’s villains would be coming to Magic Kingdom. We even later learned where that land would be in the park (behind Big Thunder Mountain Railroad). IT’S REALLY HAPPENING! ©Disney Well, Disney is now busy dropping announcements at D23 Brazil, and the company revealed which villains will inspire that land. It’s not clear exactly HOW these characters may be featured, but it looks like Disney plans to use some of the biggest and baddest villains. ©Disney Let’s just take a look at this photo posted by @omelete. We see the Queen of Hearts, Jafar, the Evil Queen, Yzma, Cruella, Captain Hook, Maleficent, Gaston, Mother Gothel, Ursula, Hades, Chernabog, and Maleficent as a Dragon. 8. We’ve been so excited about the new nighttime parade coming to Magic Kingdom ever since it was announced back in August. Magic Kingdom This new nighttime parade is called Disney Starlight, and we know it’ll feature the magic of the Blue Fairy from Pinocchio, along with characters from Encanto, Frozen, and Peter Pan. We’ve also known that the parade will be “brought to life by the magic of the Blue Fairy,” but that’s about all we’ve known for a few months. But NOW we’ve got more details you need to know about! D23 Brazil is happening right now, and we’ve been getting some pretty big announcements about Disney movies, parks, and more! During the Parks and Experiences panel, we learned a little more about Disney Starlight, and Disney confirmed that a Moana float would be coming to the nighttime parade. We also saw the first concept art of this new float, which features Moana on her sailboat above some beautiful waves. ©Disney The new nighttime parade will debut in summer 2025 in Magic Kingdom. We’ve previously seen concept art for other floats, including a Peter Pan float and an Encanto float. ©Disney Looking for more recent Magic Kingdom news? Check out our posts below! 9. It is no secret that Disney World can get crowded, which can sometimes result in longer wait times for rides and attractions. Crowds in Magic Kingdom While it may seem like every season is busy season at Disney World, we tend to see higher crowd levels around school breaks like spring break, summer break, and the upcoming holiday breaks. While the influx of crowds can make ride wait times longer than average, you may be surprised to find out that sometimes the longest lines in the park are not for a ride. There are times when Disney hits the mark and makes adorable merchandise that creates a very high demand. For example, when the Disney World 50th anniversary merchandise was released in the park, there were crowds of people trying to get their hands on this historic merchandise. Eventually, Disney had to put purchasing limits in place to avoid selling out of items. 50th Anniversary Finale Collection Now, when Disney thinks a new merchandise collection will be popular, they utilize a Virtual Queue to limit and manage crowds while shopping. We saw this recently happen for Hollywood Studio’s 35th anniversary. Hollywood Studios 35th merch! But it is not just limited edition t-shirts and pins that draw crowds; popcorn buckets are insanely popular at Disney World, and for good reason, as some of Disney World’s latest popcorn bucket releases are adorable. Plus, you can enjoy discounted popcorn refills when you present your bucket to outdoor vending popcorn carts. Popcorn Cart Now, Disney World is no stranger to long popcorn bucket lines. For example, in 2022, for the EPCOT International Festival of the Arts, POP Eats was home to the Figment popcorn bucket. Lines for the bucket were hours long, and eventually, inventory ran out. EPCOT eventually restocked it for next year’s festival, and you were able to pick up the bucket via Mobile Order. Disney learned from this, and this year, for the Festival of the Arts, the new Figment popcorn bucket that featured the Imagination Pavilion was available via Mobile Order. Figment Popcorn Bucket from 2022 and 2023 As we approach the holiday season, Disney announced that three new popcorn buckets will make their way to Disneyland, and they are super cute! First up is this Sulley popcorn bucket. ©Disney There is also a gingerbread house popcorn bucket! ©Disney And finally, there is a Mickey Mouse elf popcorn bucket! ©Disney While these popcorn buckets have not yet been confirmed for Disney World, it is safe to assume that some new holiday buckets will eventually make their way over to the East Coast, and just like other popcorn bucket releases, these are going to be popular and draw long lines. Popcorn Bucket line So, how can you get your hands on a new popcorn bucket? Well, to start, many people will rush to the parks on the first day they are released. This creates long lines when you could be using the time waiting for a popcorn bucket to ride an attraction. We always have reporters in the parks watching out for new releases, so make sure to continue to follow along with Disney Food Blog as we will post updates on when and where new popcorn buckets are available. Popcorn bucket line In most cases, new popcorn buckets may only be available at one popcorn cart at the start of the day, and then they will make their way to other carts. So do not stress if one popcorn cart runs out of inventory. In most cases, they will restock or be available at another cart. Popcorn Cart This was the case at Disneyland when the Halloween Vampire Stitch popcorn bucket was released. Disneyland was prepared for it to be popular, and they sold it all over the park in multiple ways; for example, depending on where you bought it from, it could come with cotton candy or popcorn to accommodate more locations to sell it. 10. Disney World is about to be in a bit of a transformation. Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy New lands are coming to Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, AND Disney’s Hollywood Studios. New Cars attractions will be available at Magic Kingdom, and an all-new show is headed to Hollywood Studios. And that’s not even everything! However, to make way for several of these new things, some classic attractions have had to close. For example, Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy closed for good in Hollywood Studios on October 8th, but at least now we’re starting to see steps being taken for the new show to open! Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy The Cars-themed show featuring Lighting McQueen permanently closed on October 8th, 2024, to make way for a brand-new Villains show. Sunset Showcase The Cars show was previously housed in the Sunset Showcase building, but the last day for guests to enjoy it was October 7th. The new Villains show is supposed to debut in the summer of 2025. We’re always watching for more details about the new show, and we recently spotted a casting call for Cruella de Vil, Captain Hook, and Maleficent! Seems like Disney is making progress on the new production. Read about the NEW Villains show coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios! These attractions will remain closed for now, along with others around Disney World. Keep reading to find out what else will be closed the week of November 9th through November 16th. Magic Kingdom Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade We had to say goodbye to an opening day attraction on June 23rd. Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade with construction walls around it The Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade was around for generations and provided simple fun to all who played. Now, the attraction has closed to make room for a new Disney Vacation Club lounge. This lounge will be the third in Disney World, joining one in EPCOT and one at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. Disney has not yet announced when the new lounge will open. Reviewing These New Magic Kingdom Confectionery Treats Was Truly a Roller Coaster Ride Tomorrowland Terrace Tomorrowland Terrace is a quick-service restaurant that has been closed since the 2020 pandemic-related closures, but even before that, this spot was only occasionally open. Tomorrowland Terrace Once in a while, you’ll see the dining room open as a rest area (and it’s still being used for the Magic Kingdom Fireworks Dessert Parties), but it’s usually all roped off and empty. Tomorrowland Terrace Disney hasn’t announced when this spot could finally reopen, but we’ll be watching for updates. If you’re looking for a nice spot to hang out in Disney World and sit down for a rest, this could be it! REVIEW: Disney, Here’s Our Petition to Add More Loaded Tots to This Magic Kingdom Restaurant EPCOT Test Track Test Track closed on June 17th, and Disney is giving this ride a BIG makeover! Disney recently shared more details at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Experience, including an opening timeline! We’ll be able to ride Test Track once again in 2025. EPCOT Has a BIG Festival of the Holidays Problem, and I’m Formally Requesting a Solution ASAP Restaurant Marrakesh Restaurant Marrakesh is currently closed as a dining location in the Morocco pavilion of EPCOT’s World Showcase, and there’s no word yet on when the restaurant could fully reopen. Restaurant Marrakesh However, it is currently open as the Florida Blue Lounge during the EPCOT Food and Wine Festival. So, if you’re in the Morocco Pavilion, check it out to see if it’s open. We’re watching for updates on when the full restaurant could reopen! 2 NEW Food Booths Announced for the 2024 EPCOT Festival of the Holidays Hollywood Studios Voyage of the Little Mermaid Voyage of the Little Mermaid is currently closed in Disney World. Voyage of the Little Mermaid Disney is going to introduce a new, updated show in this spot, though it will still be themed to the animated movie The Little Mermaid! The new show will be called “The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure,” and it is now coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Summer 2025. The Little Mermaid: A Musical Adventure Disney still hasn’t announced an official opening date for the new show, but it has been postponed from its Fall 2024 opening timeline. It will be a “fully reimagined theatrical production inspired by the Walt Disney Animation Studios classic.” NEW LOOK at “The Little Mermaid” Show Coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios! Typhoon Lagoon Blizzard Beach officially welcomed guests back on November 4th! That same day, Typhoon Lagoon closed its gates for the season. 13. With less than two months in 2024, you can basically count down the days until your 2025 Disney World trip! Disney’s Animal Kingdom With such little time left for all the preparations, we wanted to offer a helping hand! If you’re still trying to figure out which Disney World you want to book a stay at in 2025, you’ll want to know about the ones that you’ll want to stay clear of. Let’s dive right in! Without further ado, let’s get right into the list of Disney World hotels that you’ll want to avoid in 2025 and why! Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort Who doesn’t love hopping into their Disney World hotel pool (I know we do)? Speaking of pools, the Fantasia Pool over at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort will undergo routine maintenance from January 2025 to April 2025. Fantasia Pool While the refurbishment is happening, you can still enjoy a day by the pool at the Donald Duck pool since it will still be open. If you are wanting to stay at a hotel where all the pools will open, you will want to stay clear of this hotel until May 2025. Bay Lake Tower Next, Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort will be undergoing room refurbishment work from September 2024 to September 2025 (yes — a whole year!). Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort During the construction, you can expect to see and hear the construction work in Bay Lake Tower. Also, you might be instructed to take detours. Typically Disney is really good about not doing any work early in the mornings or late in the evenings. Hoping to avoid construction at your hotel, then steer clear of The Contemporary next year. Port Orleans French Quarter Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter has been getting a facelift recently. The room refurbishments taking place at the French Quarter were originally scheduled to be completed by the end of November, but now the plans have changed. According to the Disney World website, the project is now expected to last through Spring 2025. (We’ll be keeping an eye on the refurbishment schedule and keep you posted!) New rooms at Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter As of the moment, the room refurbishments have already been completed in some areas (Buildings 1 and 2), but if you’re planning on staying at this hotel over the next few months, just keep in mind that there’s no guarantee you’ll get an updated room (but you will likely be paying the same price as someone who is in a refurbished room). Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort Even though the Island Village Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Villas and Bungalows will be opening this December 2024, the construction around the resort won’t be stopping any time soon. Construction progress Disney stated that the construction will go on until 2026, as with the other properties undergoing construction, just plan on hearing construction noise during the day should you plan on staying there. So you can expect construction in the area for quite some time. Wilderness Lodge If you’re planning a stay at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Resort, there is a major refurbishment taking place on the exterior of the hotel. Wilderness Lodge Construction work began back on August 5th and will still continue for the foreseeable future (meaning you’ll see and hear construction work during the daytime hours). Unfortunately, Disney hasn’t shared the scope of the work or when it will be completed, and there are indications that there will be even more work happening at the resort throughout the year. Disney’s Yacht Club Lastly, Disney’s Yacht Club Resort will also be undergoing room refurbishment work from January 2025 through May 2025. Disney hasn’t shared how extensive the work will be (we’ll keep you posted). Disney’s Yacht Club Additionally, the Stormalong Bay and Shipwreck Pool (which are shared by both Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts) will undergo routine maintenance from January 2025 to June 2025. These pools are consistently some of the top pools at the Disney World resorts (many stay just for the pool). As before, expect to hear construction noises during the day. This pool really is the shining star of this hotel, so if you were planning to stay for this experience, you will likely want to stay somewhere else! Stormalong Bay Now, if you still want to spend time at a pool, the Tidal, Admiral, and Dunes Cove leisure pools will still be open. Stormalong Bay at Disney’s Beach Club Those are just a couple of closures in 2025 at Disney World that you should plan around. 15. It takes a lot of work to keep a theme park running in tip-top shape — and a lot of employees to do it. Orlando Sign Orlando is home to several theme parks and not all of them are quite as large as Disney World or Universal. Some may not be filled with roller coasters and rides, but that doesn’t mean they’re not worth checking out! You might not want to apply for a job at one in particular, though, and you’ll soon find out why. A new study of theme parks in the United States has revealed which ones had the highest work-related incidents in 2023. The study, which was conducted by OnFocus, used data from the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) to find out which attractions were the safest and most dangerous places to work. The Incredible Hulk Coaster And, among the nation’s most dangerous is WonderWorks Orlando. WonderWorks is a science-focused indoor amusement park that combines education and entertainment, featuring over 100 different exhibits. While it’s not a traditional theme park with roller coasters like Disney World, it’s still a pretty popular attraction in Orlando. But, this data has revealed it may not be the safest place to work. ©WonderWorks Of the 10 least safe U.S. theme parks by incident rate per 100 employees, WonderWorks Orlando comes in second place with a 16.83 incident rate out of 100. The only theme park to beat WonderWorks was DTZIP, LLC, a zipline attraction based out of Las Vegas, Nevada. WonderWorks had 101 employees on average throughout 2023, and 17 total incidents were reported over the year. ©WonderWorks The report notes, “On the flip side, parks such as WonderWorks Orlando and DTZIP LLC are raising alarms with incident rates as high as 16.8 and 19.35 per 100 employees, respectively. These figures indicate that nearly one in six workers at some of the most popular attractions is experiencing an issue—something that shouldn’t be ignored.” Also noteworthy is Dollywood’s presence on the list of 10 least safe U.S. theme parks by incident rate per 100 employees, with the HeartSong Resort taking spot nine out of 100. ©Dollywood Disney Parks and Resorts had an incident rate of 7.66 per 100 employees in 2023, while Universal Orlando’s incident rate was 5.11 per 100 employees. 18. The holidays have arrived in Disney World — and you know what that means? It means it’s time for the first Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party in Magic Kingdom. Party map! Bring on the snoap, the fun holiday parade, the entertainment, the special characters…we are HERE for it. But more importantly, what we REALLY love to do at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is eat (yes, yes, I know you are SO surprised). So we tried some of the new eats at this year’s party and we’re going to give you our honest thoughts about ALL of them! Alright, let’s get to eating! We’re heading to Aloha Isle in Adventureland first to try two party-exclusive floats. The Holiday Pineapple-Orange-Guava Juice Float is made with Pineapple-orange-guava juice, coconut soft-serve, and a spiced pineapple tree pop for $9.00. Yep, it’s a POG float with coconut soft-serve, and we were very intrigued! However, while there wasn’t anything wrong with this one, it was just meh. We really didn’t feel it was worth $9, as it didn’t feel very festive other than the Christmas tree cake pop on the side which tasted like gingerbread cake (we enjoyed that!). Overall, it’s not bad, but we just don’t feel it’s worth your money when it’s so basic. Holiday Pineapple-Orange-Guava Juice Float We also picked up the Cranberry Citrus Float for $6.49. It’s made with Sprite Winter Spiced Cranberry and fruity boba pearls topped with DOLE Whip. This one was really the standout here, as it felt much more festive and the flavors worked so well together! The popping pearls were a great difference in texture, and overall, out of the two, we recommend this one way more. Sprite Winter Spiced Cranberry Okay, we’re heading into Tomorrowland to stop by Auntie Gravity’s Galactic Goodies. We picked up the Lump of Coal in Your Stocking, which is the only lump of coal we WANT to see this holiday season. It’s $8.49 and it’s a Cookies and cream shake topped with whipped cream, cookies and cream crumbles, and a chocolate doughnut hole. This is just your standard cookies and cream milkshake, so while it wasn’t anything special, it wasn’t bad! We don’t think it’s worth $9 though. Lump of Coal in Your Stocking We also picked up the Smoky Chocolate Brownie Sundae for $8.29, which is a house-baked brownie topped with smoky chocolate soft-serve covered in chocolate cone dip topped with marshmallows and festive sprinkles. Stay tuned for tasting notes! This one honestly gets points for just being weird! The chocolate coating is where the smoky flavor comes from, and you really won’t taste the smoky-ness until the aftertaste. It kinda tastes like you’re eating campfire smoke, and while it’s interesting, it’s likely not going to be a winner for a lot of guests. Smoky Chocolate Brownie Sundae Okay, time to double back to Main Street, U.S.A. to visit Casey’s Corner for its exclusive party snacks. The Holiday Dinner Hot Dog is an All-beef hot dog with turkey and gravy, fried onions, and cranberry sauce for $12.99. We loved all the flavors on top of this hot dog, they were a real winner, but the bun and hot dog itself took a little bit away from those flavors. If you’re looking for a meal with all these wonderful Thanksgiving flavors, this is the one to go with over the fries, in our eyes. Holiday Dinner Hot Dog We paired that with the Holiday Dinner Loaded French Fries for $6.99, which are French fries with turkey and gravy, fried onions, and cranberry sauce. Yes, that is INTERESTING, to say the least. And just like with the hot dog, we LOVED these flavors! The toppings were very generous, and we preferred this flavor profile with the fries over the hot dog by just a little bit. We do think this is shareable if you’re only looking for a snack, but it could also be a meal for one person! Holiday Dinner Loaded French Fries The Candy Cane Tart for $6.29 is a Chocolate tart filled with peppermint ganache topped with festive meringue. We LOVED this snack for its nice minty flavor in the past, but how does it fare this year? We loved how creamy and soft the chocolate filling was, and while the peppermint on top was very light, but definitely didn’t skimp on that peppermint flavor. While we thought it was very good, it’s not something to necessarily go out of your way for when you’re about to get a ton of free cookies. Candy Cane Tart The Black Currant and Mint Lemonade for $7.29 is new, so we had to try it, too. We didn’t expect to enjoy this, to be honest, but we loved the combination of the tart and sweet, and the mint really helps break up the sweetness of the rest of the slushy. It’s certainly more advanced and complex than most slushy drinks, so while we wouldn’t necessarily say to get it, if you’re looking for something interesting, it’s worth a try! Black Currant and Mint Lemonade How about some ice cream? Plaza Ice Cream Parlor is offering a Gingerbread Milk Shake made with vanilla ice cream, gingerbread syrup, and ginger snap crumbles topped with whipped cream and a chocolate piece for $8.99. While this was super soft and creamy, it really just tasted like a vanilla milkshake with something off. It took us a few sips to even notice the gingerbread flavor, and while we thought the toppings were cute, we don’t think this is really worth the spend. Gingerbread Milk Shake You can also get a Peppermint Ice Cream Cookie Sandwich for $7.49. It’s peppermint ice cream sandwiched between two oatmeal-peppermint chip cookies and rolled in candy cane pieces. This is 100% shareable, despite what you may think at first. The peppermint ice cream was fantastic with maximum peppermint taste, but we did with there were candy cane pieces mixed into the ice cream, not just on the outside! We also really loved how unique the cookies were — they weren’t necessarily fantastic, but they were so unique, which earned it points in our book. If you’ve got someone to share it with and you like BOTH oatmeal cookies and peppermint ice cream, give this a try, but otherwise, just stick with the holiday treats! Peppermint Ice Cream Cookie Sandwich We stopped by the Main Street, U.S.A. pretzel cart to try the Festive Pretzel, which is a Jumbo pretzel with chocolate-hazelnut drizzle, caramel sauce, TWIX Cookie Bar Pieces, and festive sprinkles for $12.50. Yep, this baby has a LOT going on, but we loved it! The savory and sweet combination was incredible, even though the pretzel was slightly stale. It was SO messy with all that hazelnut spread and they don’t skimp on the toppings, but it’s certainly shareable, and we overall recommend this one! Festive Pretzel We also HAD to try the Gingerbread Cola for $5.00, which is Coca-Cola served with gingerbread syrup. Okay…we were curious, but we have to tell you — this thing is WEIRD. It’s sickly sweet and reminds us of a medicine, if we’re honest. The gingerbread syrup is a hint of cinnamon and sugar, but again it has a syrupy sweetness like it’s trying to hide a bitter taste. If you’re looking for a pick-me-up, we just recommend a regular coke. Gingerbread Cola On to Fantasyland. At The Friar’s Nook, you can pick up the Holiday Pot Roast Hot Dog for $12.99. This is an all-beef hot dog topped with braised pot roast, Swiss fondue, horseradish mustard, and crispy onions. This was one of our reporter’s favorite thing she had! She loved the horseradish mustard and the crunch of the onions, but our other reporter thought it was dull and thought it just tasted like a normal hot dog. Holiday Pot Roast Hot Dog The Italian Beef Tots certainly sound good. They’re $11.29 and are tots topped with braised beef, cheese curds, zesty giardiniera, and red wine gravy. So they’re sorta’ like poutine, but with tots. These are heartier fries than what you’ll find at Casey’s Corner during the party, and we love how the pot roast truly tasted homemade. We do wish there were more cheese curds, but overall, it was solid! Italian Beef Tots Gotta’ try something sweet, of COURSE, so we ordered the Sugar Cookie Hand Pie for $6.29. It’s sugar cookie dough wrapped in a flaky crust with icing and festive sprinkles. This was controversial for our team — it’s such a strange treat with how crispy it is on the outside (thanks to that glaze on the outside), but since it was so warm, the glaze was melting down our hands! It was a little too messy and sticky for us, but for one of our reporters, it was worth it because the inside literally tasted like licking sugar cookie dough off the spoon. It gave her those warm holiday feelings you want from treats like this, but for our other reporter, it wasn’t worth the mess. If you’re sensitive to being slightly sticky and/or getting messy, this likely will NOT be the treat for you, but if you love sweets and you’re willing to brave it, we say go for it. Sugar Cookie Hand Pie The Toasted Marshmallow-Panna Cotta Tart with graham cracker, ganache, and a macaron for $6.49 certainly got our attention. This was NOT great in our opinion. It was super thin and watery in our opinion and the marshmallow topping reminded us of a strange frosting. While the salted caramel macaron was good, it wasn’t enough to save the whole treat. Toasted Marshmallow-Panna Cotta Tart Our final sweet treat here was the Eggnog Shake, which is made with eggnog soft-serve with ginger snap crumbles topped with whipped cream and festive sprinkles for $8.49. This was one of our reporter’s favorite ice cream of the night! It truly tastes like straight eggnog (without the liquor, of course). It was super refreshing but also heavy and comforting like eggnog is. If you’re a fan of the drink and like ice cream, definitely give this a try! Eggnog Shake The flatbreads at Pinocchio Village Haus are always hit or miss, but we had to try the special party-exclusive Baked Brie Flatbread for $13.29. It’s made with a brie-cheese spread, mango chutney, green apples, arugula, almonds, and a honey drizzle. This was fantastic! A perfect mix of sweet and savory and the Brie is melted really well, is super creamy, and has a great flavor. The mango chutney reminded us more of orange marmalade, but it was delicious nonetheless, and the mango flavor wasn’t overpowering. The fruity chutney really complements the Brie, and the apples were a wonderful texture, adding a bit of crunch and tartness to the dish. The arugula was a little sparse but when you did get a piece it worked really well with all the flavors. The sweet honey drizzle was the perfect finish and we were just so impressed with how well all the flavors worked together. We highly recommend for slightly more adventurous eaters! Baked Brie Flatbread We also grabbed the Black Forest Parfait, a flourless chocolate cake with chocolate mousse and cherry chantilly topped with brandy-cherry compote and chocolate popping candies for $5.99. This was really tasty as well, but we wished there was a bit less whipped cream on top. The chocolate cake and chocolate mousse had a wonderful deep chocolate flavor and the cherry compote was fantastic. The compote has full soft cherries mixed in that add a pop of tartness, but we will say we didn’t notice any popping candies on top like the description says. If you’re a fan of Black Forest cake, this parfait does not disappoint, it has all the flavors and they combine perfectly! Black Forest Parfait But hold on, we’re JUST getting started. It’s over to Frontierland to hit up Golden Oak Outpost next. Here, we tried the Holiday Chicken Nugget Platter. For $11.29, you get crispy chicken nuggets with sage butter and cranberry barbecue glaze served with mashed potatoes and corn. While we didn’t dislike this, we’ll be honest and say we don’t think it was worth the price. It’s more of a kids meal size, and for $11, that’s a LOT to pay for something that won’t fill you up. We also couldn’t taste a lot of the barbecue sauce because it was only drizzled only the chicken nuggets. Overall, it’s okay if you want something savory, but we don’t think it’s worth it. Holiday Chicken Nugget Platter You KNOW we weren’t going to pass up the Festive Beignets for $7.29. You get 3 light and fluffy beignets dusted with blue sugar cookie dust and served with cookie butter icing. Um…YUM? We LOVED these! We didn’t think you could make beignets any better, but these DO! We loved the cookie butter icing and the sugar cookie dust — it was very messy, but totally worth it to us. If you love sweets, this is something you’ve got to try! Festive Beignets You know that fried ice cream you can get at your local Mexican restaurant? Well, Disney has a Fried Ice Cream Christmas Tree and it’s made with peppermint ice cream rolled in cereal topped with green cookie butter whipped cream and festive sprinkles for $8.79. This was just weird, and our reporter usually loves a good friend ice cream. It fell apart so easily, and it was nothing to write home about. It was essentially mush, and while the peppermint flavor came through, we don’t think it was worth the price. Fried Ice Cream Christmas Tree Yee-haw! Let’s get on over to Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn & Cafe to see the goodies available there. We were pretty stoked to try the Carne Asada Loaded Fries for $11.99, which are seasoned french fries with carne asada, chipotle queso, caramelized onion, avocado salsa verde, and queso fresco. Unfortunately, these weren’t our favorite. They’re very seasoned and were delicious themselves but the carne asada was very tough and had a very strong smoky/chili pepper flavor. The chipotle queso was similar to plastic cheese with a bit of chipotle flavor. We liked the creaminess the queso fresco added and the avocado salsa verde added additional creaminess, and chili pepper and chipotle were definitely the overwhelming flavors in this dish, but the meat just wasn’t great because it was so tough. Carne Asada Loaded Fries We paired those fries with a Salted Caramel Horchata for $5.49. Okay, so we LOVE horchata, so what did we think of this take on the classic Mexican drink? This, on the other hand, was fantastic! Definitely a very sweet drink but the combination of milk, cinnamon and caramel was wonderful. The balance between all the flavors was great and they melded together really well. A delicious horchata! Salted Caramel Horchata Okay, one more stop on our Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party snacks trail. We’re at Liberty Square to enjoy the party offerings at Sleepy Hollow Refreshments. The Orange Chicken Tenders for $10.99 are fried chicken tenders with orange-soy glaze, glass noodles, green onions, and crispy garlic. These were…okay. The glass noodles in this dish were crunchy and hard, which we’re not sure was a good thing, and while we didn’t mind that the orange sauce on the tenders was your “regular” orange sauce, the tenders were almost dry. They’re hard to cut up in the box, but they’re too saucy to pick up with your fingers, so while we didn’t hate these, we didn’t love them either. Orange Chicken Tenders We also ordered the Szechuan Cauliflower, which is spicy breaded cauliflower tossed in szechuan-soy glaze for $8.99. Spicy? We’ll be the judge of that…and the verdict is that while this was our favorite of the three items here, it still wasn’t great. The cauliflower was soft on the inside and had a nice breading, which paired well along with the sauce that had actual spice to it (so definitely may not be great for kids or picky eaters). This would be what we’d recommend over the other meal here, but there are so many better options at the party. Szechuan Cauliflower The last thing on our list? The Brownie Peppermint Bark with peppermint candy pieces for $5.49. WOW y’all, we won’t sugarcoat it — this was bad. It was immensely hard and tasted so stale it was practically inedible. Our reporter took one bite of it and had to fight the urge to spit it out. It has the potential to have a nice chocolate flavor, but it was entirely masked by how stale it was. Brownie Peppermint Bark Okay, y’all, we are TIRED. We ate a LOT, but we wanted to make sure you knew about everything available at the party! We’ll be here all NIGHT, so stay tuned to DFB for more. 20. We’re singing Christmas carols, dancing in the magical snoap on Main Street, U.S.A., and enjoying the exclusive holiday entertainment at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party! The parade is a must! This specially ticketed event happens on select nights from today, November 8th through December 20th at Magic Kingdom. From 7PM to midnight, Magic Kingdom is turned into a holiday wonderland! We love all the exclusive snacks, entertainment, characters, and complimentary treats of cookies and hot cocoa. But what’s really great about these exclusive events are all the short lines for the rides! When you go to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, you’ll generally find shorter waits at all the attractions that are open. However, not all the attractions ARE open during the party, so you’ll want to be ready to experience what is available. Over in Adventureland, you can hop on The Magic Carpets of Aladdin and Pirates of the Caribbean. But back this year, and available during the party, is the Jingle Cruise! We LOVE riding on the holiday-themed cruise. Jingle Cruise is BACK! If you continue onward to Frontierland, you can enjoy Tiana’s Bayou Adventure with a standby line! During the party, this new ride will NOT have a Virtual Queue, so you can hop right in line. You can also ride on the wildest ride in the wilderness — Big Thunder Mountain Railroad — or say hello to the gang at Country Bear Musical Jamboree! In Liberty Square, you can get a lazy tour of the Haunted Mansion. Tiana on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Fantasyland offers lots of fun on the Mad Tea Party with its adorable holiday overlay! Mad Tea Party during Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party Also available to ride in Fantasyland are the following rides: Under the Sea ~ Journey of The Little Mermaid Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Prince Charming Regal Carrousel “it’s a small world” Peter Pan’s Flight The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh Storybook Circus offers Dumbo the Flying Elephant and The Barnstormer during the party. 21. The Holidays are here… at least at Disney World. Mickey’s Once Upon A Christmastime parade Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party has officially begun, marking the unofficial start of the Holiday season at the resort. The main draws of the party are the exclusive Holiday experiences, including Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmas Parade, Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks Show, treats, and character meet & greets in their Holiday best, and access to many of the Magic Kingdom’s attractions including holiday overlays of Space Mountain, and the Jingle Cruise. So, with all that offer, just how crowded is Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party this year? We entered the park right at 4PM, when your after hours tickets allow you to enter the park, and crowds were VERY heavy! Crowds are no joke! However, the lines moved very quickly, and we tapped in within a few minutes! They opened the gates at 3:45PM and we were scanned into the park by 3:49PM (yes, even with that massive crowd!). We got our bracelet right after scanning in, but we were held for a minute just inside the gates before we could move into the rest of the park. It is PACKED! Inside the park, we followed the crowds over to Market St, where crowds continued to be relatively large as we all were entering at one time, but things seemed to ease just a little bit! Here we go! At 7PM, the party officially began, and we took a look at wait times to see how many guests were in the park. Now, remember, regular park guests had to leave at 6PM, so by 7PM, the majority of people in these queues are here for the party. The highest wait time was TRON Lightcycle / Run at 50 minutes, which isn’t bad for the hottest ride in the park! ©Disney Other notable wait times were Space Mountain and Peter Pan’s Flight both at 45 minutes, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at 40 minutes, Jingle Cruise at 35 minutes, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at 35 minutes, and Haunted Mansion at 20 minutes. Jingle Cruise Also at the beginning of the party, we waited about 45 minutes for the new Mickey Elf Popcorn Bucket! This was just announced and it’s exclusive to the party, so it’s going to be popular among partygoers. Exclusive to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party By 8PM, ride wait times had dropped IMMENSELY. The highest wait time in the park was TRON Lightcycle / Run at 35 minutes with Peter Pan’s Flight and Jingle Cruise also at 35 minutes, and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure was ONLY 25 minutes! ©Disney And by 8:30PM when the first parade was starting, they had moved around a bit. Peter Pan’s Flight was back up to a 40-minute wait, TRON was 35 minutes, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Jingle Cruise were 30 minutes each, and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure had dropped to 15 minutes! ©Disney We’ll be continuing to update on crowds and wait times throughout the night, so stay tuned! Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is certainly crowded this year, but not too terrible this year! Stay tuned to DFB for more updates on the Holiday season. Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party has begun at the Magic Kingdom, signaling the start of the season at Disney World. The after-hours Holiday party offers special entertainment, ride overlays, character meet & greets, treats, and merchandise. This year’s Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party features a collectible popcorn bucket featuring Mickey as an elf! The bucket is available for $27.95 at the Magic Kingdom’s outdoor dining carts during the party and is limited to two per person, per transaction while supplies last. Popcorn Cart We got our hands on the bucket during the debut night of the 2024 edition of Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, and it’s just as adorable in hand as it appeared! The popcorn order for the bucket came in a box instead of inside Mickey. Mickey! We got in line before the party officially started but when the line started moving it took us about 10 minutes to snag the bucket. This could take a chunk of your night to wait for so keep that in mind when making plans for the event! 25. It’s officially that time of year — Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party (MVMCP) has kicked off in Magic Kingdom! Party map! This is really the main event where we ring in the holiday season and start celebrating all things holly and jolly. With Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade, complimentary cookies and cocoa, rare character meets, and more exclusive offerings, this party is usually a festive blast! But there’s one problem we’ve been noticing the past few years that we need to talk about. Like many other offerings, the price of Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party has continued to increase over the years. Last year, tickets ranged from $159 to $199 — depending on which night you chose to go. This year, those ticket prices have jumped up quite a bit, with a range from $169 to $219 per person. Let’s go to a Christmas Party! Now, we wouldn’t mind the price increase so much if MVMCP was changing in new and exciting ways each year, but that’s not really the case. For the most part, the party has stayed relatively the same the past few years — the same entertainment offerings each year, mostly the same character meet and greets, and even the same ride overlays. The Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party Parade! Some little things get modified from year to year, like the exclusive snacks available and the selection of merchandise, but that’s about it. In fact, some offerings have even DIMINISHED in recent years, like the cookie and beverage situation. If you compare the offerings from a few years ago (like pre-pandemic), there were more unique flavors of complimentary cookies to find around the park during the party, as well as more matching beverage options. Now, we’re mostly down to pretty basic cookie flavors along with hot cocoa and apple cider. Sugar Cookie and Apple Cider As much as we love the exclusive entertainment at the party, Disney hasn’t offered much “enhancement” there to go with the price changes either. Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade is still the same, as is Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks and Mickey’s Most Merriest Celebration. After 2019, we also, unfortunately, lost the beloved Cinderella Castle Dream Lights during the holiday season — they’ve now been replaced with projections that are holiday-themed. Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks So what would Disney need to do to rectify this situation? Well, we’ve got a few ideas. It could start as simple as swapping out some of the character meet and greets during the party. Introduce more rare characters that we don’t often get to see to make the party feel more exclusive. Also, adding Christmas lighting and music to a few more rides during the party and labeling it an “overlay” wouldn’t hurt. Toy Soldiers at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party We’d love to see some new characters or floats in the Christmas parade as well, and adding in a few smaller entertainment options around the park would be nice. Just little touches that make the party ticket feel a smidge more valuable would be quite welcome. Mickey’s Once Upon A Christmastime parade If Disney made some of these upgrades, it would also probably help disperse crowds a little better. In the past few years, the party has felt particularly crowded and it has been difficult to navigate. Spreading out the crowds is a great strategy for making that party ticket worth the cost. We’re heading to the first event of 2024 and will be sure to update you about the crowd levels this year. So far it was a very smooth process getting our wristbands and scanning in. Crowds before Very Merry So there you have it — the main problem that’s plaguing the Christmas party these days. Stay tuned to DFB for more updates on this event!
