  4. It’s HAPPENING! Disney’s Hollywood Studios is officially ready for Christmas! Gertie the Dinosaur at Disney’s Hollywood Studios Jollywood Nights at Disney’s Hollywood Studios starts later this week, on November 9th, and we’re so excited that the park is finally looking like Christmas. We were recently seeing stars along Sunset Boulevard, but we were waiting patiently for the iconic giant tree to appear. Well, now it has! We popped into Hollywood Studios on the morning of November 6th, and when we got to Echo Lake, it was pretty hard not to notice the HUGE Christmas tree towering over Gertie! It’s finally here! The tree is an iconic tradition at each of the parks and resort hotels. We look forward to seeing them each year! Its arrival means the Hollywood Studios is ready to celebrate the winter holidays. Yay! The Christmas tree! The tree wasn’t the only new thing we noticed at Hollywood Studios; several other holiday decorations were added to the park, including the giant ornaments floating in the lake. These ornaments are so fun! There were new holiday displays around the park… MORE decorations! …and a new Jollywood sign at Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater. They’re certainly getting prepped for the Jollywood Nights events! Yay! Welcome to Jollywood! It’s certainly beginning to look like Christmas in Hollywood! We’re so excited for this year’s Jollywood Nights. A new ice skating show, Glisten!, is joining the entertainment line-up, along with new dance parties, new characters, and a new gift for guests as they leave for the night — Champagne marshmallows! Jollywood Nights 2024 — ©Disney We’ll be at the first party night of the year, so stay tuned for snack reviews, entertainment guides, character meet-and-greet info, and so much more! 5. Okay, can we tell you how EXCITED we are about 2025 in Disney World? So much new stuff is coming and we CANNOT WAIT. Magic Kingdom Of course, we’ve got the traditional things we always look forward to like all the EPCOT Festivals (yes, EPCOT Festival of the Arts is a fave). We also love that time around Easter when we get to see the cool Easter Egg displays at the hotels. Then there’s Halloween and the holiday season — SO much to look forward to (and we’re not even done with 2024 yet). However, there are some MAJOR changes coming to Disney World in 2025 that we’re also stoked about, so let’s chat about them! If you are planning a 2025 Disney World trip, let our friends at Small World Vacations help! They can get you the best deals, work with you and your budget, and so much more! Magic Kingdom Lots of Construction So Magic Kingdom will probably be one of the BUSIEST parks in 2025, and not with people, but with projects — a WHOLE lot will be going on. First off, Magic Kingdom is getting its biggest expansion YET with two new Cars rides in Frontierland AND a new Villains-themed land. You’ll see a lot of construction in 2025, especially around Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island (which are going away for the Cars expansion) and behind Big Thunder Mountain Railroad for the new Villains land. We’ve already spotted some construction You’ll want to be prepared for that ahead of time if you’re visiting Magic Kingdom in 2025 because you may have to walk around all that construction during your trip. I Use This Risky Parade Cheat Every December in Magic Kingdom, and I’m Finally Sharing My Secret Big Thunder Mountain Railroad to close for a year Another thing you’ll need to make note of is that Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will be closed for the whole year. Yes, Disney is closing the popular ride for a yearlong refurbishment (meaning we might see some big changes made to the ride during that time). Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will be closed for all of 2025 Of course, this closure could have something to do with all the construction happening BEHIND the ride as Disney builds its new Villains land. What a YEARLONG CLOSURE Means for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Disney World Pirates of the Caribbean Tavern A Pirates of the Caribbean Tavern will also be opening sometime in 2025 in Magic Kingdom. We don’t have a LOT of details yet about the new tavern, but it’s expected to extend the story of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. We also know the Barker Bird will be returning to take up residence at the new tavern. Pirate Tavern Concept Art ©Disney Disney describes the tavern it as a “rambunctious watering hole will offer a welcoming haven for all pirate-kind, big and small, and everyone in between.” Everything we know about the Pirates of the Caribbean Tavern so far Disney Starlight Something else to look forward to in 2025 in Magic Kingdom is a new nighttime parade. Disney Starlight will bring the magic of technology and light to Main Street, U.S.A. every night with a parade hosted by the Blue Fairy who will use her magic to bring “a star-kissed constellation of Disney dreams” to life. ©Disney The parade will feature characters from Walt Disney Animation Studios films such as Encanto, Frozen, and Peter Pan. Expect this new parade to debut in summer 2025. Everything we know about Disney Starlight EPCOT New Test Track Test Track closed in 2024 and is getting a reimagining. Yep, the ride is changing! We don’t know a lot about what Disney has planned for the ride, but we’ve been keeping an eye on the construction in EPCOT. Chevrolet will still be the ride’s sponsor and the new version will highlight the past, present, and future. ©Disney Disney also confirmed that Test Track’s new queue will feature six distinct exhibits that will celebrate vehicles, as well as the people behind the vehicles that will “usher in that next chapter in our collective journey.” The new Test Track will open in 2025. What Will Disney World Change at Test Track? Here Are the 5 Biggest Theories Spaceship Earth Lounge Okay, when we say Spaceship Earth Lounge, don’t get excited thinking a lounge is going INSIDE Spaceship Earth because it isn’t (and, seriously, we think Disney missed an opportunity there). However, a Spaceship Earth-themed lounge is coming to somewhere in EPCOT and it looks like it will open in 2025. Spaceship Earth Lounge ©Disney The look of the lounge will be inspired by the “stories, shapes, and enduring legacy” of Spaceship Earth with “rich textures and warm metallic tones, giving it a mysterious and elegant intimacy.” All we can say is we better hear Dame Judi Dench’s voice welcoming us to the lounge when we visit. Also, can we get a cocktail inspired by that burning Rome scene? What we know about the Spaceship Earth lounge Disney’s Hollywood Studios Construction We’ve got some bad news about Disney World in 2025: you’re going to see loads of construction in the parks. Hollywood Studios will be making way for a new Monsters, Inc. land, which means that part of Hollywood Studios will be closed for construction at some point. ©Disney Now, we don’t yet know WHICH part of Hollywood Studios will be demolished to make way for the new land (which will feature Disney’s first suspended roller coaster), but we’re hoping it’s not Muppets Courtyard (team #SAVETHEMUPPETS). Where Is Monsters, Inc. Land Going in Disney’s Hollywood Studios? Villains show It’s good to be bad, and Disney has suddenly figured out that all we’ve ever wanted was MORE villains in the parks! So in addition to the Villains land we’re getting in Magic Kingdom, a new Villains SHOW is coming to Hollywood Studios in summer 2025, taking over the Sunset Showcase (where Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy is currently located). ©Disney The show will feature a look into the “mysterious, reflective realm of the Magic Mirror” and will feature appearances by villains like Cruella de Vil, Captain Hook, Maleficent, and more each “breaking through the glass” where they will take the stage to perform live! WE CAN’T WAIT. What we know about the Villains Show The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure The “Voyage of the Little Mermaid” show in Animation Courtyard has been closed FOR YEARS, and Disney finally announced plans for that space. A NEW show, The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure will be debuting in summer 2025. The new show will be a reimagined show inspired by the original animated classic movie from Walt Disney Animation Studios. ©Disney When the new show opens, expect musical numbers like “Part of Your World” and “Poor Unfortunate Souls,” as well as a new addition, “Kiss the Girl.” Learn a little more about the show Disney’s Animal Kingdom Construction Are you sensing a theme yet? Yep, Animal Kingdom is going to be having some major construction happening, too. That’s because Dinoland, U.S.A. is going away to make room for Pueblo Esperanza, a Tropical Americas-themed land that will have an Indiana Jones attraction PLUS an Encanto ride. ©Disney The good news is that Dinoland, U.S.A. will close in phases, so you’ll have a chance to ride Dinosaur one more time if you visit in early 2025. However, expect to see a lot of construction in the area. When Is DINOSAUR Closing in Disney World? A new Zootopia show We’ve got bad news for fans of It’s Tough To Be A Bug — the attraction will be permanently closing to make way for a NEW attraction Zootopia: Better Zoogether! The new attraction will feature Judy Hopps, Nick Wilde, and other Zootopia characters as they “take guests on an adventure through different biomes seen in the film.” ©Disney We only hope the sloths aren’t in charge of loading folks into the theater…just saying! The new show is expected to make its debut in winter 2025. Everything we know about the Zootopia show so far Disney World Hotels Construction But, wait, we’re not done. Changes are coming to Disney World hotels, too. Yep, the construction trend is going to be happening at Disney World hotels, too. First up, the VERY popular Stormalong Bay pool at Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts is getting refurbished from January through May 2025. It’s just a regular refurbishment, but that pool will be closed. Guests of both hotels can still swim at the Tidal, Admiral, and Dunes Cove leisure pools. Stormalong Bay Speaking of Disney’s Yacht Club, some of the rooms will also be getting refurbished from January through May 2025, so you can expect to see and hear construction during the day. Disney’s Yacht Club Over at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Bay Lake Tower is also going through a complete refurbishment, which started in September 2024 and is expected to last for a year. That includes Bay Cove Pool, too. Bay Lake Tower Disney’s Port Orleans — French Quarter is also under construction. Select rooms are getting refurbished and the construction is expected to last through May 2025. Free Water Parks Tickets One of the best changes could be that you could get FREE water park tickets in 2025 if you’re staying at a Disney World hotel. The only caveat? The tickets are for the day you check into your hotel. But that could be a great first day activity if you arrive in Disney World early (like most of us do because we will absolutely get up at 4 AM to make an early flight to Orlando). Summit Plummet at Blizzard Beach We also learned that if you book a split stay (staying at more than one Disney World hotel), you can get free water park tickets for BOTH stays, so double the tickets! The Ultimate Disney World Water Park Packing List New DVC Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort You’ll also have a new place to stay in Disney World in 2025. At the end of 2024, Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort will open and will have some really good options for Disney Vacation Club (DVC) members, as well as larger groups who need more space during their vacations. Island Tower Construction You’ll also have a new restaurant to check out, Wailulu Bar & Grill, which will feature views of Seven Seas Lagoon and Magic Kingdom. This casual walk-up pool bar and grill will hve an all-day menu for lunch and dinner, as well as specialty cofrfree and on-the-go morning pastries for breakfast. Disney Announces 4 (!!!) Exclusive New Perks for Polynesian Village Resort Island Tower So if you’re visiting Disney World in 2025, you’re going to see a LOT of changes with more on the way! 6. Magic Keys are BACK on sale… but ACT FAST! ©Disney Over the past several years, Disney has only sold new Magic Keys sporadically, with the offerings often selling out quickly. Magic Keys are Disneyland Resort’s current equivalent of an annual pass program, which provides “reservation-based admission to one or both Disneyland Resort theme parks.” Now, just as Disney is introducing the new Lightning Lane Premier Pass at the “Happiest Place on Earth,” they’ve also put Magic Keys BACK on sale! All 4 pass types were available for purchase beginning at 9:00AM PST, with the queue opening at 8:45AM PST, and will be available while supplies last. 7. It’s official! The holiday season has arrived in Disney World. Disney Springs We have to admit this time of year gets us SO excited. The Christmas decorations in Magic Kingdom are up and THEY ARE MAGICAL (that tree, y’all). We’ll soon get to attend the first Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party and Jollywood Nights events of the year. However, what we’re most excited about — OF COURSE — are the snacks. Now, one such snack has popped up in Disney Springs, and we HAD to try it. This new snack is available in Disney Springs at Amorette’s Patisserie (you know, where you can get all those fancy petit cakes and pastries). The online menu calls it a Mini Christmas Croquembouche and you can find it under “Holiday Exclusives”… ©Disney …but in the store, the snack seems to be in denial of its holiday heritage because it’s just marked as a Mini Croquembouche. However, it’s all the same. It’s a Chocolate Pâte à Choux, Chocolate-Hazelnut Custard, Chocolate Ganache for $8.50. Just Mini Croquembouche here The pastry is nice and light with a fluffy, creamy, and smooth feeling. Our pastry was a little soft, like it had been sitting for a bit, but we did pick this up later in the day. There are also some salt flakes sprinkled on it that add a nice additional flavor. It’s pretty! There is also LOADS of milk chocolate flavor, while the custard tastes like a light and fluffy Nutella. The chocolate ganache is also light and has a dark chocolate flavor. Although that might sound WAY too sweet, it isn’t! It works! Granted, if you’re not a fan of chocolate hazelnut flavors or you’re craving something more complex, this might not be for you. But overall, we enjoyed it. Inside Stay tuned to DFB for more reviews of holiday snacks because we are going to be eating EVERYTHING. WE KNOW – there are SO many great snacks at Disney World! 8. Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is coming up soon! It’s that time of year! This specially ticketed event is TONS of fun! There are exclusive treats and entertainment, free hot cocoa and cookies, fun meet-and-greets, and lots of attractions to enjoy. Disney has shared a list of all the rides that will be open during the holiday and party, and we were excited to see Magic Kingdom’s brand new ride on the list! Tiana’s Bayou Adventure just opened in Magic Kingdom in June of this year. The new ride replaced the previous Splash Mountain and takes you on an adventure down the bayou. Tiana is having a Mardi Gras celebration but is missing the secret ingredient — a band! You join her on an adventure to find the perfect music for the party. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure On a regular park day, you can enjoy this ride by either purchasing Lightning Lane Multi Pass and selecting a Lightning Lane return time for it or by getting in the Virtual Queue at one of the two available times, 7AM and 1PM. There is no standby line offered for the ride during regular park hours. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Queue The exception to the standby line rule for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is during the exclusive parties! During Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, the ride did not use a Virtual Queue but instead offered a standby line. Now, the same thing will happen for Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party in November and December. You’ll be able to enter the standby line if you have your party wristband on to enjoy the ride throughout the night! Let’s ride Tiana’s Bayou Adventure! While you’re at the party, you’ll be able to see the wait times on your My Disney Experience app for all the rides that will be open. You can enjoy the following rides at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party: Adventureland Pirates of the Caribbean The Magic Carpets of Aladdin Frontierland Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Liberty Square Haunted Mansion Fantasyland Under the Sea ~ Journey of The Little Mermaid Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Prince Charming Regal Carrousel “it’s a small world” Peter Pan’s Flight The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh Mad Tea Party Storybook Circus Dumbo the Flying Elephant The Barnstormer Tomorrowland Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin Astro Orbiter Monsters Inc. 9. It’s TIIIIIME! Grand Floridian Gingerbread House We’ve waited a whole year to see Disney World’s transformation for the holidays, and it’s finally starting to get real. While Magic Kingdom’s been busy decking the halls with wreaths, garlands, and Christmas decor we’ve had our eye out for a few other grand spectacles we’ve come to know and love. And now it seems that keeping an ever-so-close eye on some construction nearby has finally paid off for us in a sweet way! It’s a BIG day for Disney holiday enthusiasts everywhere but especially if you’re visiting Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort. For days now we’ve watched as the annual lobby gingerbread house was being constructed ever so carefully and now it seems that our patience has finally paid off! As of November 6th, the gingerbread house is FINALLY open for business! Grand Floridian lobby gingerbread house It’s become a tradition dating back decades (25 years to be exact) for the bakery chefs at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort to put out a massive gingerbread house in the center of the lobby at the hotel. Not only does it LOOK like a life-size version of a house you might build at home, but it’s actually MADE of real gingerbread pieces, too! It’s also crafted with dozens of hidden Mickeys and Minnies… Hidden Mickeys and Minnies …characters in the window sills… Characters in the windows …and several other festive elements that bring smiles to our faces every year! This year the chefs opted to make trees themed in various Disney animated characters and that’s a scavenger hunt all of its own to see how many you can find and name! Character trees But, the best part of all isn’t that we just get to smell the wafting gingerbread in the air of the hotel lobby, it’s that we actually can walk up to the window and order a few treats as well. Today’s the day! Each year, we’ve come to anticipate some creative treats to order from the lobby gingerbread house and so we hopped in line to order a few of the staples. The line gathered around the gingerbread house with some folks that we stopped to talk to telling us they’d been waiting since 7AM for the house treats. After a quick group photo of the chefs and leaders, it was time to officially open the line for orders! Say “cheese”! If it’s your first visit, or you’re not quite sure what you’re ready to order before heading into the line, there is a menu board on the side of the house for you to look over and get an idea of what you’d like to try out. Menu board Of course, if you find yourself hung between a few options and still looking to narrow down your choices, you can always ask the Cast Members working inside based on your taste preferences. Since this isn’t our first rodeo with the lobby gingerbread house, we decided just to grab a few of the classics that are typically offered year after year. We picked up a gingerbread shingle and the gingerbread ornament! Our treats! To give you an idea of what’s in store, let’s talk about the shingle first. This is a single gingerbread shingle like what you’ll find on the roof of the house where the top side is made of gingerbread while the bottom is coated with chocolate. This one cost us $11.99. Gingerbread shingle When we say coated in a layer of chocolate on the underside of the treat we mean it! CHOCOLATE! Once we broke the shingle in half you could really see the spongey but resistant consistency of the gingerbread that makes up the majority of this treat. Inside of the shingle If there’s one thing we’ve come to know (and love) about these gingerbread treats, it’s that their recipe is consistent year after year. If you had this one last year, it’s going to taste just the same but, for those who might not be as familiar, there’s definitely a more prominent ginger taste to them with a few notes of honey. They’re a bit stiff (probably because they’re not super fresh — we imagine these would need to be produced well ahead of time since they’re pretty popular), and while the inside of them is a bit softer, its general vibe on the outside might come off as stale. It’s not the tastiest treat you’ll grab here The bottom coating of chocolate adds just the right sweetness to the treat as well as a bit of a crunch when you bite into it and it peels off but this is a treat we’re going to recommend purely for nostalgia and not solely because it tastes absolutely wonderful. Then we moved on to the stunning gingerbread ornament! This beauty is made out of a piece of gingerbread cut into the shape of a house and decorated with colorful icing and a chocolate Mickey and will cost you $13.99 to snag for yourself. Gingerbread ornament Now, if you thought the gingerbread shingle was a tough bite to swallow you’ll probably want to pick this ornament up for display purposes only. We could certainly tell that this piece of gingerbread was made a bit denser (probably to double as an ornament to display and last all season long) and it would be much harder to break, bite into, and ultimately chew. The ornament was stiff Overall we felt like these treats were pretty basic yet classic snacks and we have to admit we were a bit disappointed in the menu offerings this year as they didn’t look like there was a wide variety of unique treats to try out as we’ve experienced in years past. However, we also do realize that if you’re stopping by to visit the gingerbread house, you’re likely there to take in the display and a few pictures expecting super tasty treats. We’ll be covering all of the gingerbread displays popping up all over the Disney World hotels so be sure to stay tuned with us as they’re revealed for more! According to Disney, approximately “392,000 toys were donated globally to organizations serving children in need, with more than 293,000 of those toys going to Toys for Tots. Disney VoluntEARS spent nearly 11,000 hours supporting Toys for Tots and the Disney Ultimate Toy Drive.” Lisa Haines, Senior Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility at The Walt Disney Company noted at the time, “We love how this campaign brings together so many aspects of the Walt Disney Company to provide some joy and fun, particularly during the holidays, for children and families who are facing hardship. 11. Disney World is gearing up for the holidays! Happy Holidays from Magic Kingdom! We’ve started seeing decorations appear at multiple parks and hotels, including Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Magic Kingdom, and Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort. It may only be November, but Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s will be here before we know it. These major holidays come with lots of excitement and celebration, but they also come with lots of CROWDS at the parks. If you’re hoping to venture to the parks during one of these BIG holidays, especially New Year’s, here’s a tip we think will help you out! We often see park reservations “sell out” throughout the year on busy days. However, most people don’t need park reservations anymore, so on the days reservations do sell out, just tell us that those are likely to be really crowded days. (Currently, only Annual Passholders and those without date-based tickets need park reservations.) But just because most people don’t need park reservations anymore doesn’t mean that the parks can’t still “sell out” to everyone. Main Street, U.S.A. There are certain days of the year when some of the parks will reach capacity, meaning Disney can no longer allow anyone else to go in until some people come out. The day we most often see this happening is New Year’s Eve. A LOT of people enjoy being at Magic Kingdom and EPCOT on this day to ring in the new year. Hollywood Studios is another popular park, while Animal Kingdom is usually less crowded since they don’t do a nighttime fireworks show. New Year’s Eve crowds 2024 If you’ve ever been to Magic Kingdom for this big celebration, you might have seen what a full park looks like. There are people EVERYWHERE. Typically, Magic Kingdom and EPCOT will fill to capacity early in the morning, likely before 10AM, which means if you really want to be there at midnight, you’ll want to get there right away in the morning and DO NOT leave. If you leave, there’s a very good chance you won’t get back in. Usually, Disney World will send out notifications on the My Disney Experience app regarding capacity. As soon as a park has hit capacity, you’ll be notified that no more entry is permitted. EPCOT on New Year’s Eve On the other hand, if you want to enjoy the countdown in front of the castle without the massive crowds, Magic Kingdom also counts down on December 30th, so you could see the show the day before New Year’s Eve and then head to one of the other parks that’s less busy on the 31st. New Year’s Eve at EPCOT Before you head to a park on New Year’s Eve, though, we suggest calling the park capacity hotline, a.k.a the park hopping hotline. (407) 560-5000 will let you know which parks have reached capacity and which ones are currently still available for you to enter. Countdown at Magic Kingdom It’s an exciting time of year, and we’re ready to celebrate! But visiting Disney World over the holidays can mean more planning is required, earlier mornings, and/or longer days. A great way to enjoy the holidays at the parks is to go to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at Magic Kingdom or to Jollywood Nights at Hollywood Studios. These specially ticketed events will certainly get you in the holiday spirit! 13. Some big hotel changes are coming to Disney World! Disney’s Swan and Dolphin Resorts We’re constantly seeing Disney Resorts get renovations, whether on rooms, the lobby, or restaurants. And recently, a BIG update was announced for the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin. The 3-hotel complex will be getting new convention center space, technological updates, and some renovated rooms! The Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin hotels are owned by Marriott, and the brand recently shared a sneak peek at the major expansion coming soon. Included in that sneak peek was concept art for the new convention center additions, as well as a photo of the room renovations coming to the Swan Hotel. ©Marriott But how do those rooms compare to the old versions? Well, let’s take a look! In the photo shared of the new rooms, there are new fixtures, new decor, and generally an overall brighter feel to the room. Marriott said that the rooms would all be updated with luxury tile flooring. ©Marriott Some of the key changes include a move to a warmer color palette, with beige curtains, an orange desk chair, warm-toned lighting, and a new area rug. The configuration of the room seems to be the same. ©Marriott The beds are now decked out in wood detailing, with a wooden headboard and matching nightstands. The linens in the photo are plain white with no accent blankets or pillows. ©Marriott If you look at photos of the old room, you’ll notice that things are a bit cooler in appearance, with mostly blue and gray tones. Some of the furniture looks the same, namely the couch and the desk. ©Marriott The carpet removal seems to be the biggest change. The old rooms had a blue patterned carpet — we’ve noticed many Disney World hotel rooms move away from the carpet as a design feature. Laminate flooring is much more popular these days. ©Marriott Marriott also seems to be ditching the bed skirt in favor of showing off the wooden bed frame. Fewer linens to wash and clean overall, probably. ©Marriott These rooms are supposed to be completed by the end of 2024, and we can’t wait to check them out! If you’re hoping to stay in a new room, for your next trip, we suggest speaking with the hotel directly to see if any are available. 14. Blizzard Beach is BACK! Blizzard Beach Walt Disney World’s water park themed as a ski resort slowly melting in the Florida sun recently reopened after its annual refurbishment. In addition to iconic attractions like Summit Plummet, guests at the park will also be able to try out some NEW food offerings. But are they worth it? We found out! First up, we checked out the offerings at The Warming Hut. The DOLE Whip Orange Swirl Cone ($6.29) was a bit basic, simply a cone with DOLE Whip. However, it is a bit unique given how combatively hard it is to find the orange flavor on property compared to other flavors. However, just because it was a bit basic doesn’t mean it’s not delicious. In fact, it’s a perfect water park snack thanks to how refreshing the citrus is. DOLE Whip Orange Swirl The Winter Harvest Salad with Chicken ($13.99) surprised us a bit. It was loaded with chicken (which along with the dressing, was included in a side cup to be added to the salad on our own). The dressing had a bit of an acidic taste to it, though that was mollified by mixing it together like this. Overall, it was a good salad if that’s what one is in the mood for, but it definitely has the taste of a pre-made refrigerated salad. Winter Harvest Salad The Elote Nachos with Pork ($12.49), which we confirmed are the same that were offered at Typhoon Tillie’s at Typhoon Lagoon, are one of our favorite water park dishes. The nachos are loaded with toppings, including pork, corn, cheese, sour cream, guacamole, jalapeños, and Pico de Gallo, but thanks to the thickness of the chips, things never get soggy. We’d definitely recommend it. Elote Nachos with Pork After The Warming Hut, we ambled over to I.C. Expeditions to try two sweet offerings. First up was the $8.29 Praline Sundae. The praline topping, as well as the mini-churros, were delicious. However, the dish was dominated by ice cream, to the point where it was just too much. Praline Sundae Next, we tried the Apple Pie Churro. This $9.29 snack was interesting. Even though it’s sold as a churro, it’s actually several mini-churros topped with whipped cream and apple pie filling. We’d actually recommend getting a cup of vanilla ice cream to mix with this and turn it into a bit of a custom sundae offering. Apple Pie Churro Finally, we headed over to Cooling Hut for the S’Mores Cold Brew. We’ll be real, we’re going out with a whimper here. Our $5.29 cold brew was over-brewed and bitter. It also seems like it’s aimed at no one. Those who prefer bitter coffee won’t want the sweet toppings (toasted marshmallow, whipped cream, chocolate syrup, and a graham cracker rim) and those who enjoy the sweet offerings won’t enjoy the bitter coffee. S’More’s Cold Brew You’d be much better off going to the Joffrey’s location that is present in the park (despite not being listed on the map). Blizzard Beach Joffrey’s Overall, we tried 6 dishes at Blizzard Beach… and we’d definitely recommend 5 of them! Just be sure to pair them with some Joffrey’s Coffee. Magic Kingdom Not only do these essentials help us out day to day while we’re on the job bringing you the latest updates, but we love testing them out so that you can be prepared on your Disney World trips, too! But, one item we tried out didn’t quite work as well as we had hoped, and it immediately made us regret all that complaining we’ve done about ponchos! DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. We find a ton of Disney park essentials and souvenirs on Amazon Prime — if you’re not a member, you can score a free trial by clicking the button below! Let us introduce you to this mini UV umbrella — which is GREAT for keeping yourself cool and out of the sun on those oppressively sweltering summer days in Disney World. It rolls up to be nice and compact and even comes in a convenient carrying case so you can toss it into your park bag. UV Umbrella What this UV umbrella is NOT so great at doing, however, is protecting you from wind and rain on particularly severe weather days in Disney World. When we tested this puppy out on a sunny day? Magnifique. 10/10 — no complaints. But the umbrella seemed to have a mind of its own when it came to rain, and eventually, we had to concede defeat when it ultimately broke on us. UV Umbrella in Hollywood Studios It was so bad, in fact, that it made us immediately regret all those times we complained about wearing ponchos in Disney World. Consider us to officially be poncho converts when it comes to rainy days in Disney World. But, you can’t just wear ANY ponchos to the parks and you definitely don’t want to be caught spending an arm and a leg on a flimsy, single-use one from Disney World. Beware the plastic poncho!! Instead, we recommend a handy-dandy, reusable poncho like the one below! Get the Frogg Toggs Reusable Poncho FROGG TOGGS Poncho We will forever be singing the praises of these reusable Frogg Toggs ponchos! They’re made from durable, waterproof, and wind-resistant fabric that’s designed to be light and breathable. Frogg Togg Poncho It’s PVC-free and also features a hood to keep your head from getting drenched in the rain as well. Oh, and did we mention it folds up into a convenient carrying pouch it comes with?! That way, you can shake it off, roll it up into the carrying pouch, and toss it back into your bag without worrying about getting your essentials wet! Frogg Togg Plus, the Frogg Toggs poncho comes in plenty of different colors so you can find one that matches your style! We may still be complaining about those single-use, plastic ponchos you’ll spend way too much money in Disney World for — but we won’t be complaining about these reusable ones! 16. We’ve finally made it, friends! Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin EPCOT’s Food and Wine Festival started in late August and will continue through November 23rd, but did you know there’s another Food and Wine event in Disney World? Over at the Swan and Dolphin Resorts on Disney World property, you can find the Food & Wine Classic. This is a 2-day event, and we got a sneak peek before it starts! This event takes place from 5:30-9:30PM on both Friday, November 15th, and Saturday, November 16th. Tickets for the event are all-inclusive, meaning that you’ll pay one price and be able to try whatever you’d like, as many times as you’d like for $195.00 per person ($208.13 with service fees). Food booth setup However, you can also get a 2-night bundle to go both nights for a savings of 15%, which is a total of $330.00 per person ($353.94 with service fees). This is a great way to try some really fantastic food of all different types — everyone is sure to find something they enjoy here. Pastry Chef Arnis Robeznieks Menus were released for the event back in September, but now it’s time to walk around and try some of these delicious dishes! Smokin D’s BBQ First, we got to scope out the brand-new Smoked Hand-Crafted Bacon from Smokin’ D’s BBQ specialty booth. It’s made with artisanal bread puree, carrot puree, braised greens, and shaved vinegared heirloom apple. Smoked Hand Crafted Bacon This was a VERY thick-cut piece of bacon that was crispy on the edges and kind of pulled apart in the middle like pork shoulder. The flavors of the heirloom apple and the barbecue sauce really compliment the meat, but our one complaint is that the bacon was on the fattier side. Cabana Bar & Beach Club If you want a taste of Cabana Bar and Beach Club, you can try out the Korean No Mayo Salad. Korean No Mayo Salad This was made with rice noodles and we found it to be a great mix of textures with a little bit of heat. It had some really fun crunchy elements! Il Mulino For pasta lovers, there’s a new dish from Il Mulino! The Imported Italian Ricotta Cheese Filled Agnolotti is made with roasted broccoli rabe, crispy garlic, Calabrian chili, romano cheese, and lemon-scented olive oil. Italian Ricotta Cheese Filled Agnolotti With each plate, you get a few small pieces of pasta to sample. It’s plated beautifully! Amare If you’d like a sampling from Amare, try out the Hand-Made Harissa Spiced Lamb Sausage with bulgar wheat, smoked yogurt, and fennel-onion salad. Harissa Spiced Lamb Sausage These each come with a decent-sized piece of sausage. Once again, the plating is impeccable this year! Carnival Corner Calling all mac and cheese fans! New this year is the Creamy Chipotle Macaroni and Cheese from the Carnival Corner themed area. It’s made with smoked ham and scallion crema, but you can get it vegetarian upon request. Isn’t she a beaut? Creamy Chipotle Mac and Cheese We tested this one out and it was a thick, creamy cheese sauce. It had real bacon bits and a bit of heat on the back end from the chipotle. Yum! Picabu A fan-favorite dish from the 2011 event has returned — the Vegetable Galette Slider from Picabu. This is griddled with hand-formed zucchini and carrot “cake,” secret sauce, sweet onion-mustard relish, tomato “jelly,” and served on a locally sourced brioche bun. It’s all vegetarian. Vegetable Galette Slider If you loved this one 13 years ago, then you’ll definitely want to hurry back and snag it again! Chinatown For a taste of Chinatown, check out the Congee, which is slow-cooked rice porridge with shrimp dumplings, fried shallots, green onions, garlic, and crispy chili flakes. Congee This is one of the more adventurous dishes available, but it’s also one of the larger portions you can get. Desserts And then, of course, we’ve got the desserts! First up was the decadent Nougat Rum Dark Chocolate Mousse. This is a MUST for chocolate lovers and anyone who wants something incredibly rich. Nougat Rum Dark Chocolate Mousse The Fresh Strawberry Burnt Miso Tartlet is perfect for strawberry fanatics! It has a lot of that fresh fruit flavor, and then some nice crunch from the crispy pearls. This was one of the prettiest treats we tried! Fresh Strawberry, Burnt Miso Tartlet The Chocolate Blackberry Choux Puff was quite delicious, although it was rather runny in the heat. This is definitely one of the smaller-portioned items available, but great if you just want a little bite of dessert. Chocolate Blackberry Choux Puff If you’re a beignet fan, you’ll definitely want to check out the Mandarin Cream Beignet. This one combines tropical flavors with one of the most popular types of doughnuts. Mandarin Cream Beignet The Coconut Tapioca Mango Mousse was light and fluffy, with a custard-like consistency. The mango was quite strong here. Coconut Tapioca Mango Mousse The Caramel Banana Crème Brûlée was honestly our favorite thing we tasted at the event! It had some rich banana flavor and a little bit of a bananas foster-like texture on the bottom. The top was a very traditional crème brûlée. Caramel Banana Crème Brûlée The Pistachio Raspberry Mousse with White Chocolate Foam is gluten free and it had a nice, light pistachio flavor. The raspberries really shine through here with the fruity flavor. Pistachio Raspberry Mousse And that’s not all! You can also experience great entertainment around the event! Throughout both days, you can catch: The 501 Blues Band (a blues cover band) Evolution Motown (a cover band spanning the whole Motown catalog) Epic (an 80s and 90s dance-pop cover band) The Pop Strings Trio (a group that “experience classical melodies reimagined through a modern pop lens”) Local artist the Jamie Davis Trio If you’re heading to the event this year, we hope you have the best time — be sure to stay tuned to DFB for all the latest Disney World news! 17. One of Disney’s beloved holiday traditions is returning! Disneyland Candy Cane Over the nearly seven decades that Disneyland has been open, countless holiday traditions have become part of the fabric of the resort. From the Festival of the Holidays to the Candlelight Processional to iconic holiday decorations and attraction overlays, the “Happiest Place on Earth” defines Christmas for many. Now, we know exactly when one of Disneyland’s SWEETEST holiday offerings will be available in 2024. Handmade, hand-pulled candy canes have been a longtime favorite treat of Disneyland guests. In fact, they’ve become so popular that Disney has had to put a wristband system in place to handle demand. 19. Magical, luxurious… creepy? Eek There are many words one can use to describe Disney World’s hotels. The near-30 resorts that dot the resort’s property have themes ranging from a Polynesian resort to bygone New Orleans to a turn-of-the-19th-century Florida beach resort. However, some of them have an… unintentional theme of being downright creepy thanks to some head-scratching additions. Jack-in-the-Box! Walt Disney World’s group of value resorts (All-Star Movies, All-Star-Music, All-Star Sports, Pop Century, and Art of Animation) are known for their massive, oversized depictions of on-theme colorful props and characters. While most of these run the gamut from adorable (massive Disney characters across several of them) to kitschy fun (see the majority of Pop Century) to so bizarre that we love them (see the building-sized 1990s laptop complete with “go.com ” homepage… also at Pop Century) there is one we would definitely call creepy. Pop Century This massive Jack-in-the-Box at All-Star Movies looks downright menacing, like a deathtrap the Joker would spring on Batman in a classic comic book. We’re not sure what Disney was thinking with this one, but we always avoid eye contact whenever we’re at the resort! SCREAMS!!!! Trader’s Sam’s Creepy Critters (and More) Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto at the Polynesian Village is one of our favorite spots at Disney World. However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t some elements of this bar that give us the heebie jeebies. There’s the dark, somewhat cramped atmosphere, the volcano out the faux window, the octopus tentacle, the enchanted barstools, and the zombie servers. It’s fun, but not for the faint of heart. Uh-Oa at Trader Sam’s Nanny Chairs Of course we couldn’t talk about creepy elements at Disney World hotels without bringing up the nanny chairs at the BoardWalk. These terrifying chairs are modeled after and cast from original 19th-century carousel chairs, which were originally intended to give nannies a much-needed rest while the children they watched rode a carousel, hence the name. Now why do they need to look like horrifying sleep-demons? That’s another question. Now THAT is a nightmare, or should we say “nightCHAIR” On top of that, the chairs – – nicknamed Todd, Paul, Alex, and Carrie after the names hand-painted on their backs (rumored to be those of the children of the imagineers who designed the chairs) – – have a tendency to move around the BoardWalk. Are they haunted or is it simply some Cast Members having some fun? Boardwalk Inn Nanny Chair Walt Disney World’s hotels are magical across the board. However, there are definitely some creepy additions if one knows where to look. Stay tuned to DFB for further secrets of the resort. Don’t Worry. 21. Let me tell you a little story about my last trip to Disney World. I landed at Orlando International Airport, and as soon as my feet hit that iconic green carpet, I knew what I had to do. I had to get myself to Disney World! Orlando International Airport Now, several years ago, I used to be able to stroll right down to the Disney Magical Express zone, hop on a bus, and go straight to my Disney resort…for FREE. Yeah, that’s not a thing anymore (shocker). Instead, you’re on your own, people. YOU decide how you’re getting from the Orlando Airport (or any airport in the area) to Disney World. I recently tested two of the most popular options, Mears Connect and Uber, and I’m here to give you my honest thoughts on both services. Uber Let’s start with my trip from the airport to my hotel, Disney’s Pop Century Resort. After my flight landed in Orlando and I got my bags, I was ready to call a ride. I strolled out the doors, pulled up my Uber app, and requested a ride. Within seconds, Uber found a driver! SCORE! I only waited about five minutes for my driver to circle the airport and pick me up. Orlando Airport The ride was seamless! I called the Uber at 5:22PM, my ride arrived at 5:27PM, and I was dropped off at 6:03PM. Once we got to the resort, I was taken right to the front of Pop Century. My driver helped unload my bag from the trunk, and I was on my way to my room in no time. Easy, eh? Well, here’s where I tell you how much I paid for my ride. For that roughly 30-minute ride, I paid $64.98 BEFORE a tip. ©Uber Keep in mind that rideshare services like Uber and Lyft use a system called surge pricing, so depending on the time (and location) of your ride, you may pay a little more for the same trip. Rideshare sign at EPCOT Mears Connect Fast-forward a few days, and it was time to go home. Boo! This time, I decided to use Mears Connect to go from my resort, Disney’s Pop Century Hotel, to the Orlando International Airport. This is the closest thing to the old (free) Disney’s Magical Express Service that currently exists. OK, now it’s time to compare it to my Uber ride. Same distance, same price? NOPE! Not even close. Mears Connect My ride to the airport with Mears was, drumroll, please…$16 (before tip)! Now, there are a few caveats since this isn’t a true apples-to-apples comparison. For one, my ride with Mears was NOT private; I shared the bus with about five other families. Inside a Mears Connect bus Additionally, it was not a direct ride to the airport. The bus stopped at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort before going to the Orlando Airport. Depending on where you’re staying, you may make multiple stops at other Disney hotels before leaving Disney World. Caribbean Beach At the airport, the bus also stopped at Terminal C before dropping me off at Terminal B. So, yes, you have to be a little more patient if you’re using something like Mears Connect. Still, I got to the airport at least two hours before my flight took off, so it’s not like I was on a time crunch. Terminal C The Verdict Let’s be honest. People don’t like sharing. People also don’t like waiting. So, you might think I am Team Uber over Team Mears, given all the extra stops you have to deal with on the bus. But, come on, it’s $16! For one person, the difference between a ride on Mears Connect is WAY cheaper than an Uber ride. It’s a no-brainer for me — I prefer Mears! Mears Connect bus Here’s where things may look different for you, though. Number one: you might have a family of four (or more). Suddenly, your cheap ride via Mears is not so cheap. In fact, as a family of 4+, you could end up paying about the same price as an Uber ride. In that case, it might make more sense to just call an Uber; it’s a direct, private ride to the airport, after all. Mears Connect at Orlando International Airport Really, if price is the biggest factor for you, the decision might come down to the number of people in your party. While services like Uber and Lyft use surge pricing, the price isn’t based on the number of people in the car. Mears, on the other hand, charges a per-person ticket price. Mears Connect is one of the airport shuttle services available. The good news is that Mears offers child rates for those ages 3–9, and children under three ride free. So, if you feel more comfortable riding on a bus than in an Uber, this might be the better choice! Ultimately, there are pros and cons to both services. Price it out before you leave and see what’s best for your family. Don’t want to go through all of the stress of booking your Disney World trip alone? 23. This Animal Kingdom eatery has had its hours slashed. Let’s go to Kusafiri! A somewhat out-of-the-way yet enjoyable lunch experience at Disney’s Animal Kingdom has seemingly shut down, at least for now. The Kusafiri Coffee Shop and Bakery, tucked into a higher corner of the park’s Africa section, previously offered several unique lunch dishes. However, that wasn’t the case during our last trip to the park. In early November 2024, we noticed that Kusafiri’s hours on the Walt Disney World app were only showing as 8:00AM to 11:00AM and that the cafe only had a breakfast menu listed. ©Disney On our most recent visit to Animal Kingdom, we sought out a cast member at the nearby Harambe Fruit market to get clarification on the outlet’s status, and we were told that Kusafiri has, in fact, stopped serving lunch. Shuttered during lunch The loss of Kusafiri’s lunch menu is a bit of a bummer. As we discussed earlier this year, when we reviewed the cafe’s lunch options, we found the cafe to be a “great place to stop if you’re looking for a quick pastry or snack, or you want an entree you can order and eat quickly.” At the time, we particularly enjoyed the Harissa Chicken Wrap, which provided a cool and refreshing quick lunch option Harissa Chicken Wrap The Kusafiri Coffee Shop and Bakery at Disney’s Animal Kingdom has dropped lunch from its present menu offers, seemingly for the foreseeable future.
