A potentially dangerous storm is brewing in the Atlantic. ©National Hurricane Center While the Atlantic Hurricane Season is technically almost over (technically ending November 30th), that doesn’t mean it’s too late for dangerous storms to develop in the region. In fact, as of November 5th, 2024, there’s a massive tropical storm currently churning in the Caribbean. STORM UPDATES A Step-by-Step Guide to Hurricane Cancelation Policies and Refunds in Disney World How to Handle the Worst-Case Scenario During Hurricane Season at Disney World The BEST Hurricane-Ready Hotels in Disney World 6 Items You Need For a Hurricane in Disney World Join the DFB Newsletter to Get All the Latest Disney News Delivered Right to Your Inbox! Click Here to Subscribe According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), Tropical Storm Rafael currently sits 80 miles south-southwest of Montego Bay, Jamaica, with maximum sustained winds of 60 mph and is currently moving northwest at approximately 13 MPH. The storm’s current projected path would see it move near Jamaica and the Cayman Islands on Tuesday night before passing near or over western Cuba on Wednesday. ©National Hurricane Center The NHC expects Rafael to reach hurricane-level strength sometime in the next day or so, likely before it makes landfall over Cuba. According to the organization, Rafael is currently “situated in an atmospheric and oceanic environment that is quite conducive for strengthening.” According to forecasters, Rafael could potentially bring rains of 3-10 inches to the areas that could be affected, including in Jamaica and Cuba, where it could lead to flooding and mudslides. ©National Hurricane Center This heavy rainfall is also expected to spread north into Florida and nearby areas of the southeast U.S. in the middle to late part of the week, with tornadoes predicted to arrive over the Keys and southwesternmost Florida mainland by Wednesday. Several warnings are currently in effect in the region, including hurricane warnings for the Cayman Islands and the Cuban provinces of Pinar del Rio, Artemisa, La Habana, Mayabeque, Matanzas, and the Isle of Youth. A tropical storm warning is in effect for Jamaica and the Cuban provinces of Villa Clara, Cienfuegos, Sancti Spiritus, and Ciego de Avila, and a tropical storm watch is in effect for the Cuban provinces of Camaguey and Las Tunas and the Lower and Middle Florida Keys from Key West to west of the Channel 5 Bridge, as well as Dry Tortugas. ©NHC Tropical Storm Rafael is the 17th named storm of the 2024 Hurricane Season, and it has the potential to develop into a devastating weather event. When you visit Disney World, there are official rules that you have to follow. Disney’s Hollywood Studios For example, there are very specific rules about wearing costumes in the parks, particularly for adults. There are rules about what you can and can’t bring into the parks when you visit. There are also some unspoken rules that are, more or less, common sense. However, there is one rule, but it’s kind of weird — and well, this rule could be Disney just lying to you. So as you probably know, Disney World’s theme parks have very specific opening hours and closing hours. We’re going to talk about a park’s official closing time. You might think this is the time when you would absolutely 100% be kicked out of the park if you’re still hanging around, right? EPCOT at night But that’s just not the case. The closing hours are more of a guideline than an actual rule. We’ll give you an example: Disney’s Hollywood Studios might have a closing time of 9PM. However, the last showing of Fantasmic! may start AFTER that, at 9:30PM (yes, this is common). Fantasmic! So the park CAN’T actually close at 9PM because it has to wait until that last showing of Fantasmic! finishes — which is around 10PM. So, you’re actually going to get to stay in Hollywood Studios an hour AFTER the park officially closes. It will take some time to usher everyone OUT of the park, too, so the actual closing time might be even later than that. Hollywood Studios at night You’ll also notice that many restaurants in Disney World parks take reservations AFTER the park officially closes, meaning if you have a late reservation, you’re getting to stay in the parks later than that. We’ve seen this often at Oga’s Cantina, for example, and we also think this is the BEST time to get reservations because Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge hits a lot different when almost everyone else has left the park. Oga’s Cantina Another thing you might have noticed if you’re in a park late at night is that shops will generally stay open later than the official park closing time. This is most obvious in Magic Kingdom. We like to spend a little extra time in the shops after the park officially closes to avoid the crowds (and get in a little bit of final shopping, of course). Magic Kingdom at night Finally, did you know you can often get in line for a ride RIGHT at park closing time? Yep! It’s usually a great way to ride an attraction with a shorter wait time. So, of course, the park doesn’t actually close until everyone has had a chance to get that final ride in and make their way to the exit. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster So yes, all four of Disney World’s theme parks have official closing times. But those closing times aren’t EXACT and parks don’t actually close until everyone has actually LEFT the parks, which happens later. So no, you don’t have to make it for the exit right at closing time — you have plenty of wiggle room to get a last ride in, do some shopping, and even grab a bite to eat. With that being said, though: Don’t be deliberate in trying to always push the limit on park closing times. Cast Members have to wait until you’re out of the parks before they can help close up and go home. So be mindful of their time, too. This is just some extra information so you don’t have to worry if you’re standing in line, shopping, or can ONLY get a late dining reservation when a park closes. Stay tuned to DFB for more. It’s a fairly common problem for rides and other attractions at Disney World to experience technical difficulties that temporarily shut them down. Spaceship Earth However, it’s pretty uncommon for an entire park to not open due to technical difficulties, but that appears to be happening today, November 5th, over at EPCOT. We were headed to EPCOT right away in the morning recently when we stumbled upon a VERY long line of people waiting to get into the park. Eventually, opening time came and went, and we were still waiting without moving forward. Entrance to EPCOT Eventually, Cast Members shared a message saying that they were experiencing a delay due to technical challenges, and they did not know why. They urged guests to be patient as they worked to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. Everyone waiting patiently to get in However, while standing in line waiting, we noticed that some rides on the Disney World app already showed wait times. Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure had a wait time of 65 minutes, which likely indicated that the entrance at the back of the park, at International Gateway, was working and letting people in. It is likely that the tap stalls at the front of the park were having technical issues. The park was not opened 10 minutes after the official opening time Around 9:20AM, it appeared that people were finally being let in very slowly. That was at least a 20-minute delay for the park to open. You never know what might happen when technology is involved, but staying patient and understanding as Cast Members work to solve the problem is the best thing to do at the moment. If you have dining reservations in a situation like this, generally, the Cast Members will be understanding and work with you. For more Disney news, keep following DFB! BREAKING BREAKFAST NEWS! Satu’li Canteen One of our absolute favorite restaurants in all of Disney World just brought its breakfast menu back! Satu’li Canteen inside Pandora: World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is a stellar quick-service spot that features build-your-own bowls and the iconic cheeseburger pods during lunch and dinner, but right now we’re taking you with us to check out the newly returned breakfast menu at Satu’li Canteen! Atmosphere Satu’li Canteen is a space that celebrates the culture and art of the Na’vi of Pandora. Fitting right in with the story of the land, the space was originally a mess hall for the RDA (Resource Development Administration). However, ACE (Alpha Centauri Expeditions) repurposed the hall into the peaceful dining spot that explorers can experience when visiting Pandora today. Satu’li Canteen You’ll find plenty of seating outside, under a covered awning — so even if it’s raining, you should be able to grab a seat here. But, if sitting outside doesn’t tickle your fancy, you’ll also find plenty of seating inside the restaurant as well. Inside seating Since this is a quick-service restaurant, you can order from a Cast Member at the counter… Counter …or Mobile Order, which is what we did. Menu The menu is “inspired by Pandora’s bounty,” with an international influence on the cuisine. Customizable bowls and Steamed Pods (twists on Bao Buns) along with unique drinks and desserts are available during lunch and dinner, but we’re here to try the newly returning breakfast menu! NEW breakfast menu items at Satu’li Canteen When Satu’li Canteen first opened in 2017, breakfast was served here (and we LOVED it!) — but it has been missing for years now. The current breakfast menu is made up of items we’ve tried before — so we’re excited to check them out this time around! Eats We’re starting off strong with the Slow Roasted Pork Shoulder Potato Hash with Chorizo Sausage and Charred Onion Sauce for $13.29. Back in the day, this was our FAVORITE of the breakfast items — but how do we feel this time around? Slow Roasted Pork Shoulder Hash The hash was a mixture of sweet potatoes and regular potatoes, but there were far more sweet potatoes which gave this dish an overall “fall” flavor profile, which we enjoyed. The charred onion sauce has a strong allium flavor, but there are plenty of herbs that make the sauce taste fresh and bright and it goes well with the sautéed peppers. The roasted pork shoulder is mixed into the hash, and it’s incredibly rich, tender, and pairs nicely with the potato hash. The piece of chorizo sausage you get is HUGE — you’ll definitely need a knife for this thing. It’s fairly spicy — a bit hotter than what we typically see with Disney’s spice level — so keep that in mind if you’re averse. Unfortunately, we found a piece of bone in our sausage, but overall we really enjoyed this dish. Slow Roasted Pork Shoulder Hash Next up, we tried Cinnamon French Toast for $12.99. This is served with Blueberry Cream Cheese, Passion Fruit Anglaise, and Sausage. We enjoyed this when we had it in the past, but we did find it a bit dry. Cinnamon French Toast This time around was much of the same. The French toast itself was dry and tough to cut through with just a fork — we ended up using a knife as well. We’re used to French toast being soft and decadent, and this was not that. However, the blueberry cream cheese and passionfruit glaze were SO good. The cream cheese is sweet and pairs well with what little cinnamon flavor we could taste, while the glaze added a tang and moistness that the dish was desperately in need of. The French toast was served with your basic breakfast sausage, which was fatty, salty and had a nice snap to it — but it wasn’t anything to write home about! Cinnamon French Toast We also grabbed the Frittata and Beef for $14.29. This is a Vegetable-Goat Cheese Frittata with Wood-fired Beef tossed in Chimichurri sauce. This was another hit for us back in the day — and this time around Frittata and Beef Starting with the frittata — which was loaded with peppers and onions that seemed to be concentrated at the top. The egg was light and fluffy, but it was pretty underseasoned and could have benefitted from some salt and pepper — but the bites that included the peppers and onions with goat cheese were really great! This dish is served with a side of shaved beef — the same kind you’d find in the build-your-own bowls at lunch and dinner. It’s served cold and is such a flavor bomb! There’s a rich, meaty flavor to it but it’s decently seasoned with salt and pepper. It’s tender and chewy without being overly so. The greens served on the side are tossed in what appeared to be oil and weren’t anything too special, but if you want to start your day with bitter greens — this is your chance. Frittata and Beef Finally, we tried the Tropical Pandoran Forest Fruits for $11.99, which is with Fresh Yogurt, Muesli, and Honey. If you’re looking for something on the lighter side, this fits that bill. Tropical Pandoran Forest Fruits This may have been our reporter’s favorite of the breakfast items this time around, which was surprising to her because it was SO simple. It’s flavorful and fresh, and a great, lighter breakfast option if you’ve got a day full of eating ahead of you — but one that will still keep you full. The muesli was perfectly crispy and had a cinnamony flavor, and the yogurt was mild — we’re pretty sure it was vanilla flavored. The dried mixed raisins added a nice texture, while the fresh kiwi, pineapple, and strawberries were a burst of flavor that really rounded the entire dish out. Tropical Pandoran Forest Fruits So, what’s our verdict on the return of breakfast at Satu’li Canteen?! Overall While not every aspect of each dish was a hit for us this time around, we did enjoy our breakfast at Satu’li Canteen. The Tropical Pandoran Forest Fruits were a surprise hit, and the Slow-Roasted Pork Shoulder Hash is a hearty option that we’ll definitely be getting again. Full spread Still, this newly returned breakfast is incredibly welcome as Animal Kingdom lacks many quick breakfast options other than a basic breakfast sandwich here and there. And, if you’re planning on rope-dropping either of the rides in Pandora, this is a new option that you won’t have to walk far to find! Nosh or Not Make a stop at Satu’li Canteen for breakfast if… You want a quick and hearty meal before starting your Animal Kingdom day. You’re looking for breakfast that’s a bit elevated from what you’d normally expect from a theme park. You worked up an appetite after rope-dropping Flight of Passage or Na’vi River Journey. Consider going elsewhere if… You’re looking for a large, sit-down meal with Disney characters. You want more traditional fare like Mickey waffles. After months and months of waiting, a Disney World park finally reopened today! Summit Plummet at Blizzard Beach Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park has been closed since March while Typhoon Lagoon was operating for the summer instead. But, as of November 4th, Blizzard Beach has opened for the season and we’re bringing you with us to check it all out! It’s official — Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park is open for the season! We headed on over to the park to see if anything significant had changed while the park was closed for refurbishment. When we arrived, we noticed a decent crowd of folks waiting in line to head into the park, but nothing too wild just yet! Keep in mind that since Blizzard Beach is open, Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park is now closed indefinitely. Blizzard Beach is OPEN! Operating hours may vary — so make sure you double-check ahead of your visit — but on opening day the park was available from 10AM until 5PM. Don’t think you’ll be spending any late nights at Disney World’s water parks, as they typically close early save for special events. Park hours Around Melt-Away Bay, Blizzard Beach’s wave pool, we noticed that empty beach chairs were few and far between! It looks like quite a few folks wanted to enjoy the sun and heat while it’s still around — not that Florida gets too many cold days. It has been known to happen though, so make sure you pack accordingly if you’re visiting over the winter months! Crowds around the pool We stopped by the seating area over near Lottawatta Lodge, one of the Quick Service dining options here, and found plenty of seating — but it wasn’t quite lunchtime yet. You’ll find Quick Service restaurants and snack stands at Blizzard Beach — don’t expect to have any nice, sit-down meals here! Lunch crowds Speaking of lunchtime, you know we had to check out some of the new and returning eats now that Blizzard Beach has reopened! We grabbed the Winter Harvest Salad with Chicken from Warming Hut… Winter Harvest Salad …along with some Elote Nachos with Pork… Elote Nachos …and a DOLE Whip Orange Swirl Cone! Orange Swirl Dole Whip At I.C. Expeditions, we grabbed the Praline Churro Sundae… Churro Sundae …and the Apple Pie Churro. We’ll be bringing you our full review of these items soon, so keep checking back here for our complete thoughts! Apple Pie Churro And, if you’re considering visiting a Disney World water park on your next visit, don’t forget that Disney World has announced that in 2025, those staying at Disney Resorts (including DVC properties) will get a FREE park ticket to the water parks on their arrival day. You’ll be able to use this perk at either Blizzard Beach Water Park or Typhoon Lagoon Water Park and only on your check-in day. In the meantime, we’ll be bringing you the latest updates from Disney World — so make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for more news! Some BIG changes are coming to Disney World, and we’re not sure we’re ready for them (okay, we ARE, but we aren’t, if you know what we mean). Disney’s Animal Kingdom Magic Kingdom is getting the biggest expansion EVER with a new Cars-themed area in Frontierland AND a Villains-themed land (and WE ARE SO READY TO BE BAD WITH OUR FAVORITE DISNEY BADDIES). In Hollywood Studios, a new Monsters, Inc. land will be under construction soon. And in Animal Kingdom, Dinoland, U.S.A. is about to change FOREVER (okay, it’s actually going away) to become Pueblo Esperanza, a new Tropical Americas-themed land. Ahead of that transformation, a BIG change is coming to Animal Kingdom soon. So Dinoland, U.S.A. is going to have to close to make way for Pueblo Esperanza. However, it will be closing in phases, meaning not ALL of Dinoland will be closed at the same time. But if you’re visiting Disney World in January 2025, the first phase of construction will begin, and you’ll notice that parts of Dinoland will be closed…forever. DinoLand, U.S.A. Disney previously announced that the following parts of Dinoland will be closing as of January 13th, 2025: TriceraTop Spin, Fossil Fun Games, and Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures (NOOOO…we love that gift shop). So, if you’re visiting Animal Kingdom on that date or later, those parts of Dinoland will be behind construction walls to be converted into something new. Chester and Hester’s For the time being, you’ll still be able to enjoy Dinosaur, the Boneyard, Restaurantosaurus, Dino-Bite Snacks, and Trilo-Bites. Disney previously said it’s trying to give folks a last chance to “go get that dino” on Dinosaur, so it could be one of the last parts of Dinoland to close (we hope!!). DINOSAUR Pueblo Esperanza will have a Tropical Americas theme and will bring three new rides to Animal Kingdom, including a carousel, a brand-NEW Indiana Jones-themed ride, AND a ride that will take you inside the Casita from Encanto. Madrigal Casita ride Change is hard, but we’re excited about all the new things to come! We’ll keep you updated, so stay tuned to DFB for more. Now that Halloween has officially come and gone…it’s the most wonderful time of the year! EPCOT Festival of the Holidays Now that we’re seeing the holiday decorations go up all around Disney World, I think we’re all stoked to experience the holiday season at Disney World! Basically we’re just counting down the days until the beginning of holiday festivities like the EPCOT Festival of the Holidays! Speaking of the party, as much as I adore it, there’s a massive problem that nobody seems to be talking about, and it’s seriously putting a damper on an otherwise magical experience. Just for context, the 2024 EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays runs from November 29th through December 30th and is chock-full of holiday entertainment, merchandise, and food! But as we were saying, this festival has a glaring problem that no one is talking about, so let’s have a chat about it! Festival of the Holidays The problem we’re talking about is the fact that we can’t read those festival menus at night! For example if you’re wandering around the World Showcase and you’re ready to sample some cozy seasonal bites, once the sun goes down, the Festival of the Holidays food booth menus become almost impossible to see. 2023 Las Posadas Holiday Kitchen Menu There you are, hungry and ready to splurge on something festive, yet holding up the line as you squint or reach for your phone flashlight just to figure out if they’re serving up schnitzel or sushi at the booth in front of you. Where Did This Go Wrong? The EPCOT festivals really are known for their immersive experiences, great food, and generally smooth execution, so it’s genuinely surprising that menu lighting has been overlooked here. 2023 Refreshment Outpost Menu It’s not like lighting issues haven’t been solved before. Plenty of festivals, parks, and even food trucks manage to make their signage clear and readable, day or night. So why is it that at the EPCOT Festival of the Holidays we still can’t read the dark menus after all these years? It’s Time to Light Up These Menus! I mean it’s not like adding proper lighting to the festival menus is a revolutionary idea, and honestly, it seems like it would be a relatively simple fix. Here are just a few lighting solutions that could take our Festival of the Holidays from night-blind to nighttime-friendly: Menu Backlights: Backlit menus are already used all over Disney World, so EPCOT could easily follow suit here. A little LED backlighting behind the menus would be enough to make them readable without creating light pollution or ruining the cozy, ambient vibe. Mini Spotlights: Picture tiny, focused spotlights placed right above or below each menu. They’re sleek, effective, and would be easy for guests to read at night. Portable Illuminated Menu Stands: If permanent lighting is a big ask, another option could be to bring out illuminated menu stands at dusk. Simple, portable stands with lighted menus that could be positioned by each booth at night, which would help guests easily see the options without compromising the cozy aesthetics. Digital Screens: We know Disney has fully embraced digital boards, so why not consider screens for the Festival of the Holidays? These could even feature rotating images or descriptions, which could add some extra holiday flair! So Disney, if you’re reading this, here’s my plea: Please give us some menu lights! The Festival of the Holidays should be all about savoring festive foods, not struggling to read them. Let’s brighten up these booths, literally, and make every guest’s experience a bit more merry and bright. 2023 Wine & Wedge Menu Until then, we’ll be on the lookout for the latest holiday news from Disney World and more, so make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for more updates! Disney World’s customer service is known for being top-notch. If something goes awry on your vacation, chances are a Cast Member will be able to sprinkle a little bit of pixie dust and make all your problems disappear. Cinderella Castle But, even though Disney World’s customer service is legendary, it still isn’t the best in the country according to a new survey! So, who took the top spot?! A new study has been released that ranked over 700 brands based on their customer service ratings. Newsweek has compiled America’s Best Customer Service 2025 list with help from global data research firm Statista, and while you might think that Disney took the top spot — you would be wrong. Magic Kingdom The evaluation is based on the quality of communication, professional competence, range of services, customer focus, and accessibility, and was taken from an independent survey of more than 28,000 customers in the United States. So, how did Disney and other theme parks do? Take a look below! ©Newsweek Among the Amusement Park Experiences category, Disney Parks & Resorts actually placed second, with a score of 92.49 out of 100. Coming in first place with a score of 93.22 out of 100 was Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee! ©Dollywood SeaWorld Parks came in third place with 92.2 points, followed by Busch Gardens Theme Parks in fourth with a score of 91.44, and Universal Parks & Resorts in fifth place with a score of 90.1 out of 100 points. It’s important to note that these are all still relatively high customer service scores overall. ©Dollywood This isn’t the first time Dollywood has beaten Disney for the top spot in a theme park survey. Earlier this year, Dollywood was named America’s Favorite Theme Park in the National Amusement Park Historical Association’s 38th annual survey. ©Dollywood Dollywood is a family amusement park created by country singer and icon Dolly Parton. Established in 1961 and nestled inside Pigeon Forge, Tennesse, the park — spanning over 150 acres — offers a mix of thrill rides, family-friendly attractions, live entertainment, and immersive experiences. One of its most notable rides is the new Big Bear Mountain roller coaster, which was awarded the best new attraction of 2023. In addition to rides, Dollywood showcases traditional crafts and artisans, reflecting the rich heritage of the Appalachian region. Visitors can watch demonstrations of blacksmithing, glassblowing, pottery making, and more. ©Dollywood If you haven’t made your way to Dollywood yet, it sounds like now might be the perfect time! It’s great getting to look back on our Disney memories and being able to show the kids that mom was there too ” If capturing those in-the-moment smiles is high on your list, PhotoPass is a worthy investment. Lightning Lane If waiting in long lines isn’t your idea of fun, Lightning Lane is your fast pass to bliss. It allows you to skip the standby line for select attractions, and our readers are adamant it’s worth every penny. For example, Jill shared, “Lightning Lane for your FAVORITE attraction. Me = Guardians of the Galaxy.” Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is included with EPCOT’s Lightning Lane Premier Pass Sid recommended, “Lightning Lane Multi Pass, if you want to do everything and not waste your day in long lines.” Barbie swears by it sharing, “Lighting Lanes, as my husband is not a Disney lover, so if we don’t need to stand in lines, the complaining is minimized.” Staying on Disney Property Sure, staying off-property can save a few bucks, but Disney experts agree that the magic of staying on Disney property is irreplaceable. Not only do you stay close to the action, but you also get early park access, immersive theming, and Disney-exclusive perks. All-Star Music Resort Pam shared, “Staying on property. Totally worth it.” And Dustin added, “Staying in a resort on Disney property.” There really is nothing like it. Refillable Mugs Okay, this one’s for all the beverage lovers out there! Disney’s Refillable Mugs are a small but mighty investment that many of our readers swear by. These mugs give you unlimited refills at your resort hotel throughout your stay, and that makes them both a fun souvenir and a practical way to quench your thirst on those hot Disney days. Refillable Mug Our reader Gabrielle summed it up with a big “Refillable mugs ” because, honestly, who doesn’t love unlimited drinks? Character Dining We all feel meeting Mickey and friends is magical, but meeting them while enjoying a meal is truly like next-level Disney magic. Whatever Makes You Happy Maybe it’s Disney holiday decor, plushies, or that one souvenir you’ve had your eye on, but sometimes, the best Disney World investment is just going for whatever brings you joy. Halloween Mickey pumpkin light up bubble wand To that point, our reader Steve shared, “Whatever makes YOU happy!
