  1. It’s often said that all roads lead to home, and this was especially true for Disney Consumer Products Public Relations Manager Alexis Mack (Mack) when she was tasked to find a way to connect Gen Z consumers with a new Mickey & Friends collegiate collaboration with GAP. Growing up, the Brecksville, Ohio born and raised girl had one main goal – to play softball at the highest-level. That goal became a reality when she earned a softball scholarship and spent the next few years playing softball at two of the top softball schools in the nation: University of Oregon and The University of Alabama. She would go on to live out her childhood dream, winning both a Pac-12 and SEC Championship, play in three Women’s College World Series, and sideline as a micro student-athlete influencer all while earning her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in public relations and advertising. Her career and passion intertwined in 2021 when she landed her dream internship with ESPN Public Relations and so her journey with Disney began. What followed that internship led into a role with Walt Disney World Public Relations and now Disney Consumer Products Public Relations where she conceptualized and carried out an innovative milestone which brought the world of Mickey & Friends to college Game Day during one of the most highly anticipated college football games of the 2024 season – University of Alabama vs. University of Georgia. This was a full circle moment for Mack. So, how does a softball player turned student-athlete influencer come up with a first of its kind campaign for Disney Consumer Products? We sat down with Mack to answer that question and learn more about how her career with Disney and past life inspired a unique way to amplify an all-new collection targeting Gen Z at her Alma Mater. Disney Parks Blog: Welcome to Disney Parks Blog, Mack! First, congratulations on the massive success of the GAP collection launch. How did you first come up with the idea to tie this collegiate collection to the University of Alabama? Mack: Thank you! In my role with Disney Consumer Products, one of the brands I work on is Mickey & Friends which is what the GAP collection was themed after. With Mickey & Friends, we’re always looking at new ways to approach different audiences and this collection was focused on the Gen Z/college-aged demographic. I thought about what does inspire this audience – OOTDs (outfit of the day), the hottest brands from influencers, and of course college football! From there, I suggested we take this new collection to a college game day event at University of Alabama, where football is a huge passion for students, and launch it in a completely fresh way. In my mind I saw a total college gameday takeover filled with broadcast, character appearances, and influencers activations with GAP merchandise at the center. We pitched the idea to partners, and with the support and partnership from my leaders, marketing, synergy, events, entertainment and DX creator teams, (teamwork makes the dream work!) and as a team, we set out together on our journey to break through the noise and try something new. Disney Parks Blog: Wow! I love how you managed to turn Gen Z interests into a strategy. Tell us, what was it like returning to your Alma Mater on a professional Disney campaign? Mack: There were so many full circle moments throughout the whole process. I was able to connect back with my leaders from my ESPN internship as well as contacts from the University of Alabama to help bring this idea to life. I’m on the border of the Gen Z demographic, and that combined with knowing the culture and passion around college football in Alabama, I was convinced we could create a fun opportunity. The best part was having my best friend from college, who is now an influencer, be invited to the event alongside some of the country’s most followed student athletes. Being on that field at Bryant-Denny Stadium in a professional capacity with Disney was surreal. I never imagined my dreams would bring me back home in this way. Disney Parks Blog: Disney careers turn dreams into reality! Now, onto the campaign. What can you tell us about the experience that took place in Alabama? Mack: So much! In partnership with teams across the business (as I said, it was an amazing team effort!), we really found a way to do something totally out-of-the box and reach new consumers in a space (sports and college campuses) that we don’t usually do experiences in. With the GAP x Disney collection launching earlier in the week, we already had some amazing momentum going into our event weekend at Alabama. We kicked off the day with a feature on ESPN College GameDay that showed college fans dressed in the new collection and cheering excitedly with Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse. What was especially cool was learning this was the first time in history Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse appeared at a College GameDay broadcast outside of their home-market of Orlando! We also made sure to get Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse posing with ESPN College GameDay talent, Nick Saban and Miss Terry, which ended up going viral on social media! After the morning festivities we hosted a “Get Ready with Mickey & Friends” experience, where influencers from the University of Alabama and University of Georgia showed up wearing the collection and created content that featured Mickey & Friends products. Ahead of the game, Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse posed with both schools’ cheerleaders and then all the influencers got to sport the collection in style with tickets to the big match-up. It came together so well, and it was so cool to see our vision come to life! Disney Parks Blog: You’ve had quite an incredible journey here at Disney. What advice do you have for aspiring Public Relations professionals and future cast members? Mack: No matter your dream or profession-The biggest piece of advice is that ANYTHING is possible if you work hard towards something as a team, and more importantly, believe in a shared WHY even harder. Times will get tough, and people won’t believe in an idea sometimes, but if you work hard, work as a team and you all believe in a shared vision, you will make it happen! I always think to myself what an opportunity it is when you find something that has never been done before because someone has to be the first to do it! There are people out there doing new things every day—why not YOU next? Disney Parks Blog: Incredible advice. Thank you so much for joining us today, Mack! One last thing – Roll tide? Mack: Roll tide! The post Cast Member Alma Mater Inspires Big Moment for Disney Consumer Products appeared first on Disney Parks Blog. View the full article
  2. Epic Universe is just months away from opening and the hype is real! Universal Parks – Epic Universe ©Universal And for fellow Universal Monster fans, the hype is even more so as we finally get a close look at the incredible animatronics that will take part in Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment. Let’s check it out! If you hear squealing in the distance, pay no mind, as most of us here on the DFB team love animatronics and classic Universal Monsters. So, to finally get the best of both worlds is simply EPIC (see what we did there?) Entertainment Weekly got an exclusive sneak peek at the animated figures inside of the attraction, which will be hosting its first victims (ahem, we mean riders) on Epic Universe’s opening day on May 22nd, 2024. Dark Universe Concept Art ©Universal Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment leads visitors into the eerie depths of Frankenstein Manor, where Dr. Victoria Frankenstein, the great-great-granddaughter of the notorious Henry Frankenstein, has carried out countless dark and hidden experiments. Wanting to showcase her brilliance, Dr. Frankenstein invites guests to observe the creatures she has contained. But when her demonstration spirals out of control, the monsters break free, leaving visitors caught in the mayhem. Does that sound like a good time or what? ©Universal Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment has 14 animatronics placed throughout the ride. These impressive figures are said to be “some of the most visceral, powerful, and fast-moving animated figures ever created”. The Frankenstein’s monster figure itself stands at nine feet tall and weighs over 800 pounds. There will also be animatronics created for Dracula, the Wolf Man, ad the Creature from the Black Lagoon. The Creature From the Black Lagoon Guests’ encounters with these monsters will begin in the attraction’s queue as they roam Dr. Victoria Frankenstein’s lab during the ride’s pre-show. ©Universal Dracula fans will be giddy to know that they can encounter this iconic vampire throughout several points of the ride, as he is leading the pack of monsters to give guests the fright of their lives. And as much as we think Dr. Victoria Frankenstein is absolutely cool, as monster lovers, we’re gonna have to go with Team Drac on this one! ©Universal According to an Epic Universe press release, riders will be “within inches” of the Wolf Man’s menacing fangs and claws as he lunges at guests as they speed by in their vehicles. And as for the Creature From The Black Lagoon, also known as “Gill-Man”, he will rise from the murky depths to join his fellow monsters as they terrorize riders. ©Universal Guests inside of Epic Universe will also be able to meet many of the monsters for photo ops throughout Dark Universe, which is set inside the fictional town of Darkmoor, and can even transform into a monster themselves inside of the Darkmoor Monster Makeup Experience. ©Universal There will also be several eateries including Das Stakehaus, a restaurant run by a group of vampire familiars who are basically prepping diners to become part of the vampires’ feast, The Burning Blade Tavern, marked by a windmill set ablaze as a nod to the classic 1931 Frankenstein film, and De Lacey’s Cottage which is located next to Frankenstein Manor. Frankenstein’s Monster These animatronics showcase an impressive amount of detail, from the shape of their claws and sharp teeth, to the intricate textures of their skin and costumes. To see them brought to life in such an incredible way has us awe-struck, and we cannot wait to come face to face with them in this thrilling adventure of a lifetime! 3. What are some of your bucket list places to go in 2025? If you are anything like us, Disney World is probably somewhere on that list. However, there are some amazing places to visit out there and one Florida destination just made National Geographic’s “Best of the World 2025” list. Magic Kingdom When many people think of Florida as a vacation destination, the theme parks may be one of the first things to pop in their head, but Florida has so much more to offer, and you may want to add a stop on your next Disney World vacation. National Geographic recently released a list of the 25 best places in the world to travel in 2025, and there is a Florida destination on the list! Believe it or not, none of the Orlando theme parks are the Florida destination that made it into National Geographic’s “Best of the World 2025.” Universal’s Islands of Adventure Other locations on the list include Bangkok, Kanazawa, Los Angeles, Suru Valley, Abu Dhabi, and Brasov, but there is also a destination in Florida that you may want to check out. The Ocala National Forest made the list as a place to go to “escape to one of Florida’s last wild places.” ©National Geographic | Photo by Nick Conzone Ocala National Forest is located north of Orlando and only a bit over 2 hours away from Disney World. According to National Geographic, the forest is the southernmost national forest in the continental United States, and you can spot manatees, black bears, and rare plants amidst the forest’s 387,000 acres. ©Forest Service The national forest is home to four different springs and more than 600 lakes, rivers, and waterways. At the Ocala National Forest, you can swim, fish, snorkel, canoe, hike, bike, and admire the beauty of nature. You can even take more time to explore the area and camp in the campground or stay in a rental cabin. ©Forest Service So, next time you are headed to Florida, you can check off a must-see destination and then celebrate by making a trip to Disney World. 5. Warning: This article contains spoilers about Indiana Jones and the Great Circle We’re just over a month away from the release of “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle,” a first-person, single-player adventure set between the events of Indiana Jones and Raiders of the Lost Ark and Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade! As part of an early preview, I had the opportunity to play two and a half hours of the latest game from MachineGames which has been in development for the past few years in close collaboration with Lucasfilm Games. Players were given the option of playing on PC with an Xbox controller or mouse and keyboard. For this preview, I chose an Xbox controller. To help set the foundation for the game’s story, as well as allow players at the preview to explore different aspects of the gameplay, we were able to play and explore three different locations during the demo: Marshall College, the sights of the Vatican and the Great Pyramids of Gizeh. The Story Begins in 1937 at Marshall College We begin with Professor Jones awoken by a break-in at Marshall College. Here is when you realize exploring every corner of the map uncovers new and exciting items that will eventually aid your progression throughout the game by earning Adventure Points that can be used to unlock and upgrade skills and abilities you will discover throughout your journey. I encourage players to take their time and appreciate the thought and details that went into every flyer on the bulletin boards, scraps of paper on office desks and relics safely stored away in their displays. When you do, you can uncover some fun lore and easter eggs to note in your journal. Fans of Indiana Jones will be treated to an easter egg early on in the game if you look in the right place. After encountering the mysterious trespasser, we are thrown into our first puzzle to help determine what priceless relic has been stolen. If not for the number of great details I previously mentioned, the emphasis on being able to examine items and rooms up close to solve puzzles immediately made me understand why first-person POV was the best decision for the game. TIP: Listen and pay attention to character dialogue as it can offer some clues and hints to solving puzzles. But before we set chase on another grand adventure, we regroup with Dr. Marcus Brody in Indy’s office to pack the essentials, including the iconic whip. Rendezvous at the Vatican Our next mission is to meet up with a contact within the Vatican, but getting there requires stealth, traversing, and our first test at hand-to-hand combat. Moving through towns, buildings and rooftops requires skill and patience as you make your way to your primary objective. Exploring and scavenging will be rewarded as you may come across items such as keys that can unlock a new path and rewards, as well as Adventure Books you can find that offer new abilities and skills you can unlock with your Adventure Points. Ultimately, it’s up to you if you want to distract, stun or sneak up behind an enemy and take them down with a nearby wine bottle. If you prefer a good fight, you can go toe-to-toe which can attract other nearby enemies and guard dogs. Yes – there is parrying in “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle”! The left and right triggers serve as your two fists for quick jabs and combos or you can long hold for a stronger punch. If successful in taking down an enemy, you may want to pick up and move them to a hidden area of the map so they are out of sight of nearby enemies that may be walking by and be alarmed. What about the iconic whip? Just as important as Indy’s whip was in the films, the whip combat in “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle” is a key tool with its own dedicated button and looks as real as the movies. During the playthrough, some of the gameplay functions include traversing obstacles by swinging, ziplining and/or climbing to your next point of interest, stunning or disarming enemies and even scaring off guard dogs hot on your trail. Exploring the Markets, Tunnels and Pyramids of Gizeh Here, we get the game’s true sense of scale as this open map is BIG, full of details, characters and where most of us at the early preview spent our time. Yet, I feel like I barely scratched the surface with the options of routes, tunnels and restricted camps to explore and infiltrate. We also gained access to more abilities and versatile tools that will be introduced earlier in the campaign, including Indy’s camera where you can snap photos of landmarks, items and characters to reveal historical insights and important clues that earn you additional Adventure Points. You can also use your camera to receive puzzle hints as well. We also meet Gina Lombardi, an Italian journalist with a quest of her own to find her sister. She helps us meet up with an ally who provides guidance and additional quests we can pursue, including helping to feed her pet (you guessed it) snake. This is where the humor we know and love from the films plays out in front of our eyes in a perfectly subtle way executed by the talented writers, along with the many lines of dialogue Indy has to offer during his encounters. While I’ve never explored the ruins and tunnels of Gizeh personally, I’m sure it gets pretty dark and would be nearly impossible to find your way around without light. What’s true in reality also holds true in the game as we were encouraged by the MachineGames team to purchase a lighter in the local marketplace to help navigate our way through the various hidden dark tunnels and caves we might discover during our limited time. Boy did that come in handy when I stumbled upon a tomb and my next puzzle that had a distinct wall of bricks that could only be taken down using a nearby sledgehammer. This was the first map where I had a chance to test out the shooting mechanics and learned player style preference and strategy is key. Let’s not forget, rarely in the Indiana Jones films do we see Indy use his revolver. This is why the iconic marketplace scene in “Indiana Jones and Raiders of the Lost Ark” was brilliant and memorable. Indy’s wits, fists and whip are his most powerful weapons and MachineGames makes that a key difference compared to other action-adventure games. If you like to go in guns blazing, just know it will alert all nearby enemies as soon as you pull the trigger. Weapons I uncovered during my quest included a revolver, rifle and machine gun. While the gameplay felt great, I feel like stealth will be a key strategy for many areas of the map. Especially enemy-restricted bases where even your disguise, which you can acquire through discovery or meeting up with Gina as part of a side mission or “Field Work,” will not fool everyone. Some additional items you can find across the maps are bandages to heal yourself, bullets for weapons and food items that can boost your stamina or buff your health meter. Just when you think you’re down and out, the best use of a self-revive ability that embodies the Indiana Jones character is the need to find and pick up your fedora before time runs out. Voice Actor Troy Baker Brings Indiana Jones to Life in New Game Troy Baker, who voices Indy in “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle,” has delivered an astounding performance of the famed archeologist. Paired with the beautiful screen-accurate character models, the cutscenes no longer feel like part of a game, but make you feel like you’re immersed in the world of Indiana Jones. Game’s Soundtrack Harkens Back to Hollywood Classics Composer Gordy Haab has returned to the Indiana Jones franchise to score the game’s soundtrack, who pulled inspiration from the film scores by the legendary composer, John Williams. One of the key characteristics of the film’s scores is the recognizable theme songs for its characters, delivered brilliantly at key moments. One of those moments at the start of the game nearly brought me to tears the first time I heard Marion’s Theme song which made me flashback to the last time we saw the two together at the end of “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and established in the new game where Indy and Marion’s relationship stands at this moment in the Indiana Jones timeline. MachineGames Unlocks the Spirit of a True Indiana Jones Adventure I’d like to thank MachineGames, Bethesda, and Lucasfilm Games for inviting us to preview “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.” Growing up watching the Indiana Jones films repeatedly on VHS tapes (shout out to those that still remember VHS) until they no longer worked and seeing Indiana Jones perform stunts live in front of my eyes at Walt Disney World, I dreamt about how cool it must be to travel internationally and search for hidden treasures that belong in a museum. Now, 35 years later, I feel like I can live that dream and play out my own Indiana Jones adventure thanks to the talented team behind “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.” When is “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle” Available? I can’t wait to continue the adventure this holiday season when “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle” releases on December 9, 2024 for Xbox Series X/S and PC, and in Spring 2025 for PlayStation 5. Pre-orders are now open. Indiana Jones © & 2024 Lucasfilm Ltd. All rights reserved. Used under authorization. 8. Well, this is an interesting warning we spotted ahead of a popular Disney World holiday event! Powerline Max at Jollywood Nights 2023 Disney World is known for going all-out for the holiday season! One way guests can get in the spirit is by attending one of the exclusive Christmas-themed events Disney hosts at the parks after hours. While Magic Kingdom is home to the classic Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, Disney’s Hollywood Studios has its own holiday event called Disney Jollywood Nights. Disney Jollywood Nights is a 5-hour, separately ticketed event that takes place in Disney’s Hollywood Studios after the park closes to regular day guests. Live music for the preview of Fiesta en la Calle As with typical Disney World after hours events, the party offers guests time in the park with limited capacity. That gives them time to experience some of the park’s most popular attractions with lower wait times and take advantage of the exclusive event entertainment, including live shows, character experiences, and more! José and Panchito In keeping with the park’s theme, the decor and overall vibe of the event are inspired by Hollywood glamour, and guests are encouraged to dress in their holiday best — but there is a caveat! Holidays in Hollywood The Jollywood Nights event page includes a warning that reminds guests that comfortable shoes are strongly recommended! The site reads, “Comfortable shoes are strongly recommended, to help you stroll around all the festive fun… and dance the night away.” Reminder That Comfy Shoes are Essential! At last year’s event, we saw guests dressed to the nines in old Hollywood and red carpet-ready looks. We even spotted lots of guests wearing heels at Jollywood Nights last year, which may have made for a long evening if this warning is any indication! Joey and Sharon at 2023 Jollywood Nights — Proof You Don’t Necessarily Need Heels to Be Dressed in Your Festive Best! We’ve been longtime advocates of the importance of wearing comfortable shoes in Disney World, so we’re totally on board with this warning that comfort is essential when picking the shoes for your Disney ‘fit! 11. There are some BIG changes coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park! Disney’s Animal Kingdom If you’ve been following the Disney news, you know that DinoLand, U.S.A. is closing permanently to be transformed into a land inspired by the Tropical Americas. The new land will have rides themed to Indiana Jones and Encanto, as well as new shopping, dining, and activities. And soon, the construction is kicking off! We found out a little while ago that the first wave of attraction closures for DinoLand, U.S.A. would begin in January 2024. The last day for TriceraTop Spin, Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures, and the Fossil Fun Games will be January 12th. Dinoland U.S.A. We’re still a little ways out from those closures, but Disney has now filed a permit to begin demolition in the area. This new permit includes a detailed site demolition plan, revealing that the Chester & Hester’s Dino-Rama area will be the first part of the land to be demolished (no surprise, considering that’s where the three things that are closing are located). ©Disney This first wave of demolition will be part of “phase one” in the transformation to Tropical Americas. Later on down the road, Disney will close and demolish the offerings in the other areas of the land — things like DINOSAUR, Restaurantosaurus, The Boneyard, Trilo-Bites, and Dino-Bite Snacks. A closure date has not been announced for those offerings. The Boneyard! The newly filed permit also addresses environmental impacts, which is important for keeping the message of conservation alive at Animal Kingdom. We’ll be interested to see how Disney includes that message in the new land — do you think we’ll get to see some new animal species in Pueblo Esperanza? Pueblo Esperanza Market Concept Art ©Disney So now we’ve got a better idea of what construction will look like going forward with this project. We’ll make sure to keep a close eye on the progress and let you know when Disney announces more closure dates for various parts of the land — lots of people are hoping for one last ride on DINOSAUR! 14. What is going on with the theme park that previous Disney Imagineers are building? ©American Heartland We have been keeping an eye out for any updates about American Heartland, a theme park being built in Oklahoma. This new theme park, which has a team of former Disney Imagineers working on it, has been dubbed the Disneyland of Oklahoma. It is set to cost around $2 billion and will span 1,000 acres, including a 125-acre theme park, a water park, a large RV park with cabins, a dinner theatre, an amphitheater, a swimming pool, and a clubhouse. The park was expected to open in 2026, but it seems that the opening date will be pushed back. Last month, we learned that the park had been experiencing financial troubles. Construction was halted, and the project’s cost increased from an estimated $2 billion to $2.5 billion. The developer, Mansion Entertainment, was accused of not paying the bills during the construction of the theme park. ©American Heartland Some, like Rusty Cornwell, a member of the Oklahoma House of Representatives, were cautiously optimistic that the project would still come to fruition. Well, we finally have another update about this park’s fate. 2 News in Oklahoma reported that the park’s developers are facing delays due to needing approval for new construction plans. When the park initially broke ground on the RV site, a design review was done. It was determined that the developers would need to change the site’s footprint to accommodate the flood zone. ©American Heartland Once these new plans are approved, construction will continue on the RV park and start a year later on the theme park. The theme park portion is expected to take two to three years to build, so it could be delayed until 2028, two years after its expected opening. ©American Heartland While the delays are not ideal, it is good to know that plans are still in motion to start construction on the park. The park’s development team includes over a dozen former Disney employees with experience in special effects, technical design, entertainment, and more. ©American Heartland If built, the park will have different themed areas, including Liberty Village, the Great Plains, Bayou Bay, Big Timber Falls, Stony Point Harbour, and Electropolis. ©American Heartland We will continue to monitor any news regarding an updated timeline for the resort and keep our fingers crossed that the new plans are approved! 15. 2024 has been FULL of huge Disney announcements. The Walt Disney Company Back in August, Disney announced new lands, attractions, and entertainment headed to the theme parks, new ships coming to the Disney Cruise Line, new movies and shows we’ll be able to see in theaters and on Disney+, and so much more! We’ve recently learned that Bob Iger’s successor will now be announced in 2026 and that Lightning Lane Premier Pass is coming to Disneyland and Disney World. But soon, we’re expecting even more news to drop from the Walt Disney Company. On November 14th, CEO Bob Iger and other Disney executives will gather to host the 4th quarter and 2024 fiscal year earnings call. At this call, the company will share reports of the past quarter’s earnings and losses, as well as how the full year turned out. We’ll learn which parts of the company, such as parks, cruise line, and entertainment, had gains and losses over the quarter and year. These calls are generally geared toward the shareholders, who are typically most interested in learning how the company has performed financially. The Walt Disney Company However, these meetings can certainly be of interest to all other Disney fans, not just the shareholders, as Iger and the other executives tend to use these calls as a stage for making big announcements. In the past, we’ve heard about new ESPN apps, Disney+ changes, parks news, and more at these events. Because of this, we’re sure we’re about to hear some more Disney news soon. The Walt Disney Company Hurricane Milton A huge event that happened this year was Hurricane Milton. This hurricane blasted across Florida and caused Disney to close the Walt Disney World theme parks. This was only the 11th time in Disney World history that the parks have closed. The parks closed for about a day and a half until they reopened after being thoroughly checked for damage. Magic Kingdom entrance the day after Hurricane Milton Since the closures, many Disney fans have wondered what the financial impact of closing the theme parks was for the company. Many guests remained at the hotels, which means Disney was still providing food, entertainment, and more but at a reduced cost and with far less revenue coming in than normal those days. Overcast skies after Hurricane Milton Disney will likely discuss these impacts with shareholders on November 14th during the earnings call, and we’ll be listening in to find out what the damage was. Disney+ A favorite topic of Iger’s to discuss at the earnings calls is Disney+. Disney+ is a hot topic as it has been a process to get the streaming platform to have a gross income instead of losing money each quarter. Finally, at the last earnings call, Disney reported a gain instead of a loss on the service, but we’ll be interested to see if that trend continues. ©Disney Disney has also talked about new additions to Disney+ at these earnings calls. One that we are eager to hear about is the new ESPN tile that is supposed to be landing on the app, similar to the Hulu tile that is currently available. Will a launch date for the new tile be announced on November 14th? ©Disney Recently, Disney has announced price increases for the service along with new live streams that play continuously. These streams include the Hallowstream, Disney+ playtime, ABC News, Real Life, Throwbacks, and Hits & Heroes channels. Will more new additions be announced at the earnings call as Disney continues to add options to the service to make it match its pricing? ©Disney The end-of-the-year earnings calls are always ones of interest for Disney fans and shareholders! We’ll be bringing you live updates of all the news that Disney drops at this quarterly event, so keep following DFB to keep up with all the info. 16. The holidays are quickly approaching Disney World and we’ve got some HUGE news to share! Candlelight Processional dining package in Germany pavilion We’ve got an exciting update to share about one of the most popular experiences happening during EPCOT’s International Festival of the Holidays! While we already were beaming with excitement from learning who we could expect to narrate during this year’s lineup, we knew we still had a little bit to wait before we could book those super popular dining packages. But now, that day is finally HERE! Disney World has just opened up one of the most popular dining offerings of the entire year. It’s become a decades long tradition when visiting EPCOT during the holiday season, to stop by and see the immensely popular Candlelight Processional. Candlelight Processional This offering is included with your park admission for the day and performs multiple showtimes each night with a full chorus made up of local choirs, Cast Members, and the Voices of Liberty. They’re joined by a live orchestra and the story of Jesus’ birth is narrated by celebrities including John Stamos, Neil Patrick Harris, Chrissy Metz, and more. Candlelight Processional sign (2023) Since its popularity has grown over the years (especially depending on which celebrity narrator you’re hoping to see), you may have found it increasingly hard to get a seat inside the American Gardens Theater even with waiting several hours ahead of your chosen performance time. One of the solutions to help alleviate this problem is to opt to purchase a Candlelight Processional dining package. Choose Showtime First, then Participating Restaurant Times will populate These dining packages offer you the opportunity to dine at one of several EPCOT restaurants which will include preferred seating for one of the 3 showtimes held that evening. When you go to book your reservation, you’ll want to choose your showtime first, and then select from the available restaurant options to dine in. Once you’re done with your meal, your server will also give you instructions on where to meet at the theater for the dining package line and preferred seating areas along with a ticket outlining your performance time. 2022 Dining Package Ticket As of today, you’re now able to book these dining packages online through Disney World’s website and My Disney Experience app! These could be a great time saver when it comes to getting a chance to sit and see your preferred show while also having an opportunity to stop for a filling meal beforehand. These packages typically don’t last long so if you’ve been thinking about snagging one, we’d recommend you lock in your choice as soon as possible! 18. Halloween is all about costumes, candy and of course – fun! But for kids spending the holiday in hospitals, trick-or-treating in their neighborhood isn’t an option. That’s where Disney is stepping in with a magical twist on tradition! What is Reverse Trick-Or-Treating, Anyways? We all know trick-or-treating – the classic Halloween tradition where kids go door-to-door collecting candy. But have you heard of reverse trick-or-treating? This delightful twist on Halloween isn’t about gathering sweets; it’s about delivering treats to those who could use a little extra Halloween fun. This year, Mickey and Minnie took part in this unique activity to bring happiness to kids in the hospital. Disney has worked with Starlight Children’s Foundation for over 20 years to bring happiness to hospitals throughout the United States, as well as deliveries of themed hospital wear, care packages, and more. “We are so grateful to collaborate with Disney to help hospitalized kids and their families celebrate the Halloween season. Our collaboration allows us to transform the hospital experience for kids across the country through play-centered programs that provide entertainment and positive distraction, bringing smiles to kids when they need it most,” said Adam Garone, CEO of Starlight Children’s Foundation. Delivering Costumes and Halloween Happiness The spirit of giving was taken to the next level with unforgettable Halloween visits at children’s hospitals across the country. Thanks to Disney VoluntEARS and Ambassadors, patients received Disney toys, plush, books and costumes based on their favorite stories. These magical costume deliveries wouldn’t have been possible without support from our guests across the country. Earlier this year, Disney kicked off an initiative to donate a Halloween costume to Starlight Children’s Foundation for each one purchased on DisneyStore.com. These purchases unlocked the maximum donation from Disney of 20,000 Halloween costumes to Starlight. And we can’t forget about the extraordinary adaptive costumes and wheelchair wraps that ensured everyone could be part of these special moments. The adaptive costumes are designed to be as magical as they are functional, with features like self-stick fabric closures, flap openings on the front for easy tube access and longer lengths to accommodate seated guests. Wheelchair wraps are built with accessibility, durability and ease of use in mind. Mickey and Minnie Show Off Their “Halloween Best” Of course, Halloween isn’t complete without our favorite duo! Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, dressed to impress in their Halloween outfits, made special appearances at Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in Tampa and Children’s Hospital of Orange County in California. With “ear-to-ear” smiles, they met patients in the lobby and visited kids who were unable to leave their rooms. These efforts are part of Disney and Starlight Children’s Foundation’s 20-year collaboration and Disney’s $100 million commitment to help reimagine the patient experience in children’s hospitals around the world. 19. Disney Paper Parks is back for the Halloween season with this release of downloadable and printable 3D activity sheets inspired by The Haunted Mansion Parlor, the soon-to-debut lounge onboard Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship, the Disney Treasure. Plans for The Haunted Mansion Parlor will honor more than five decades of Haunted Mansion fandom and introduce the world to a new chapter, with the nostalgia of the original attraction alongside a new nautical storyline. The venue will resemble a well-appointed ship parlor, which once belonged to a jovial sea captain and his strange, but captivating fiancée. Now you can build your own paper version of The Haunted Mansion Parlor, but there is much more in store when the Disney Treasure sets sail! For more Halloween and Haunted Mansion fun with Disney Paper Parks, revisit all the releases of Disney Paper Parks: Happy Haunts Edition, linked below. For best results, we recommend printing the activity sheets at their actual size, not scaling them to fit the page. We also recommend adult participation or supervision for those with little ones to help make this great activity even more enjoyable. 20. I’m going to tell you a little story about how I was basically raised to be a sucker for Disney pins, and it is through no fault of my own that I am now a pin collector. We love pins! My first trip to Disney World happened when I was two years old. Aww, a junior Disney fan in the making! Naturally, I loved the princesses, the characters, and the souvenirs. In fact, I took Disney pins seriously from a young age. I traded for a Snow White pin that I still have to this day. I bought some Disney princess pins in the gift shops. I was hooked. It’s not my fault that Disney got to me at a young age! Well…years later, I’m still buying and trading pins. My collection has grown over time, and (unfortunately) the prices have grown, too. Why do I like Disney pins so much? Well, first, they’re cute. But there’s a pin for just about everything. Staying at Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter Resort for the first time? You can get a little pin to keep as a souvenir! Visiting Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party? Celebrate with a 2024 party pin! Basically, I collect pins as a way to remember all the special things I’ve done and places I’ve been in Disney World. Port Orleans Pin I try to buy only one or two pins per vacation since pins these days aren’t cheap. Hey, here’s a tip from a Disney pin collector: if you’re gonna buy pins, STAY AWAY from the mystery pin sets. Why? It’s a trap. Once you buy a few, you want to collect them ALL — gotta finish the set, right? WRONG. In some cases, you will wind up paying hundreds just to get that one last pin you’re missing. It’s like an addiction. I fell victim to the Tiny Kingdom series a few years ago. They were just so cute! (Don’t worry — I didn’t buy them allll, though.) Disney Tiny Kingdom Mystery Pin Set When I say it’s easy to wind up spending hundreds on pins, I’m not kidding. These days, a mystery set of five pins is $44.99. If you want to collect them ALL or are hoping to get ahold of one specific pin in the set, you could find yourself buying two or three bags of mystery pins! At $44.99 times three bags, that’s $134.97 BEFORE tax. I’m not saying I’ve purchased three bags of pins all on the same vacation, but over time, I have come back to try and collect more pins from the same set…and it adds up. Mystery pins Let me back up for a moment, though, because I don’t want to dissuade you from the world of pin collecting altogether. Once you accumulate a handful of pins, you can start trading them for FREE with Disney Cast Members all over the parks and resorts. And, if you’re lucky, you can find some GREAT pins along the way! In some cases, you might be able to trade for a missing pin in your collection. Pin trading is so fun! My best recommendation when it comes to pin trading is to check the hotels! I love to ask the front desk Cast Members if they have a pin board — I’ve found some of my best pins at the resorts. But it’s all about the luck of the draw, so check as many Cast Member pin lanyards and pin boards as possible. Pin Board Look, if you want to start a collection, you might be tempted by the mystery blind bags sold at Disney gift shops. But don’t forget to trade for free pins, too! It’s a great way to enhance your collection without spending a small fortune on pins. Plus, it feels pretty good to find that final missing pin after you’ve been searching for it for years. Disney Announces Major CHANGE to Pin Trading! Is this the cheapest hobby a person could have? No. But at least I don’t collect designer watches or Hermès scarves, right? If you collect pins (or anything Disney-related!), I’d love to hear about it in the comments! In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more. 21. With so many restaurants for you to choose from at Disney World, it’s fair to think that not all of them are created equal. Magic Kingdom So it’s understandable why we can get overwhelmed with all of the choices available to us. Now, we’re here to help you out, which is why we are constantly giving you our two-cents on these Disney World spots (we hate to see you have bad experiences on your trip), but this time we thought we’d have you to tell us which is the worst Disney restaurant at Magic Kingdom! Let’s go. It can be tricky to find the right place to eat in Disney World. It also doesn’t help that there are over 200 restaurants to choose from. Do you stick with an old favorite or do you try to be adventurous? Liberty Square in Magic Kingdom Even though we’ve reviewed every restaurant in Disney World, we still enjoy hearing about your experiences at them. You definitely have a lot to say about these spots, which we appreciate, and specifically there’s one restaurant at Magic Kingdom you’re rating as the worst of the worst! Diamond Horseshoe So which restaurant are we warning you about today? The Diamond Horseshoe in Magic Kingdom. The Diamond Horseshoe This restaurant can be found in Liberty Square at Magic Kingdom. This spot is an all-you-care-to-enjoy family style dinner (think Thanksgiving and you’ll be spot on). It’s important to note that the menu here is the same served at Liberty Tree Tavern, which is rated 4 stars on Yelp. Why it’s the worst-rated According to the ratings left on Yelp, The Diamond Horseshoe stands at a 2.9 out of 5 stars rating. ©Yelp As to how the food tastes, several reviewers were very vocal about their rating. One reviewer wrote… ©Yelp ©Yelp …They also left a 1-star rating. Another review wrote, ©Yelp This reviewer gave their experience 2 stars out of 5. Cons Based on several of the reviews we read it seems like several folks were displeased with the food quality. Full Spread Our understanding is they were displeased with the way things were seasoned (or rather the lack of seasoning) and just generally didn’t match their expectations based on previous experiences at other Disney World restaurants. Pros One reviewer had mostly positive things to say about their dining experience here noting… ©Yelp This reviewer left 5 stars out of 5 on Yelp. Another reviewer also gave a glowing review about their dining experience here noting… ©Yelp This review gave their experience 5 stars. What we thought Our last visit here wasn’t so bad. We felt that overall it was pretty simple Thanksgiving feast, and that there isn’t much for more adventurous eaters. Roasted Turkey Breast And since this spot is an all-you-care-to-enjoy family-style, you can eat and keep eating until the cows come home. But we felt that the star of the entire experience was the dessert which was the Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake. To be honest, we would come back again just for this cake! Doesn’t that look irresistible?! Overall if you’re craving a basic, family-style thanksgiving dinner and have a picky eater appetite, stopping by this restaurant would be worth a try. However, if you’re really craving a more exciting and flavorful experience, you probably won’t find that here based on our, and your experiences. Recommendations for other restaurants that are better in Magic Kingdom or other similar cuisine restaurants If you’re looking for something to satisfy the more adventurous eaters, you might want to consider checking out Jungle Navigation Co., Ltd. Skipper Canteen nearby in Adventureland for some more unique eats. Skipper Canteen If you’re really finding yourself searching for something completely different, we’ve got you! 23. Booking your Disney World hotel can be more complicated than you may think. Stormalong Bay at Disney’s Yacht Club Hotel Deciding where to stay in the first place is a challenge, considering there are over 20 different hotels on property to choose from, but there’s also the matter of getting the best deal. The lowest prices are almost always going to be at Disney World’s Value resorts while the Deluxe hotel stays will cost you the most (and Moderate resorts are in the middle), but Disney often has deals and discounts that can help you save. In fact, they have them so often that we’re telling you to NEVER book your hotel for full price. We know, it sounds like it can’t be done, but it truly can, even if there’s not currently an offer available for your stay! There are a few different ways to do this, since sometimes waiting for a discount to drop means you might miss the chance at booking the room/hotel you’re hoping for. So book that hotel, and if an offer becomes available afterwards, here’s what you can do! Attempt to Modify The Reservation Yourself You can try to apply a Special Offer (the discount/deal) to your vacation by straight-up just rebooking your trip. Go to the “My Plans, Reservation and Tickets” section on your My Disney Experience account and find the “Change/Modify Reservation” option. After selecting the exact date and times of your vacation that you previously booked, when you go to select your room, check the top of the page. You should find toggle options such as “Room-only” or “Special Offers” pop up right above the room types. Pop Century When you choose the “special offers” toggle, the website will let you know if there are still rooms available for booking at those promotional price points. And if there are, choose the room and follow the prompts to get your trip rebooked with this new promotion applied! Speak With A Cast Member However, sometimes Disney won’t give you the option to change/modify your reservation on your own. Instead, they’ll give you a number to call. This is usually if there’s some sort of special circumstance attached to your specific booking that’ll require an extra helping hand to pull off, but we have seen it happen on all different kinds of reservations. Old Key West Call the number and let the Cast Member know you’re wanting to apply the new discount to your existing hotel stay. They’ll be able to see your reservation on their end and get it applied for you! It’s important to note that this can’t be done through the virtual assist texting option on the website, so you will need to call instead. Use A Travel Agent! If all of that sounds like a lot of hassle, we get it. That’s why we recommend booking through a travel agent if you want ALL the stress taken off your plate. We love our friends over at Small World Vacations — they’re reputable, reliable, and don’t cost you a DIME. That’s right, they’ll help you plan your whole vacation for you, and it doesn’t cost anything extra. Travel agents will check for Disney’s latest deals and discounts to see if they’ve been applied to your vacation the moment they come out, even if you’ve already booked your room! This way, the stress is off your shoulders, and you’ve got nothing else to worry about other than what you’re going to PACK for vacation, which is a whole other ball of wax. 24. Okay, so we witnessed some changes this week in Disney World. Chocolate Chip Belgian Waffle at The Cake Bake Shop One of those changes was the opening of The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers (and y’all, we visited it SEVERAL times — you know — for science). We also ate a giant mozzarella stick for science because, well, cheese. Plus there were loaded fries (yes, our job is SO HARD LOL). However, the BIGGEST change we saw this week was with Disney World restaurant menus, so let’s get into those updates. We hope you’re sitting down for this.
