  1. The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers is located at Disney’s BoardWalk. We have been keeping a close eye on the restaurant for a long time now, and we are eagerly awaiting its grand opening. The Cake Bake Shop Seating has popped up outside and we have seen private events happening recently, so we are hoping this new restaurant will open its doors soon. We got a glimpse at the menu ahead of the restaurant’s opening a few weeks ago, and we recently noticed that something has CHANGED! A few weeks ago, The Cake Bake Shop debuted its menu out in front and it was met with some pretty harsh criticism. The first thing that many people noticed were the prices on the menu. Disney fans took to the internet to express their opinions on the menu, with A LOT of the discussion focused on the expensive prices. The Cake Bake Shop When the menu was first unveiled, quiches cost $28, a burger and fries was $32, and grilled cheese on the children’s menu cost $18. One of our readers on Facebook, Cathy, said, “$12 for a croissant ??? Is it gold dipped? Or the size of a cat? Wow. Just wow. ” To say that people were a bit surprised by the prices is a bit of an understatement. Some readers argued that this would be a “special occasion” place and that they can see this restaurant being popular in Disney World. The original menu However, it appears that The Cake Bake Shop heard some of the outrage, as the restaurant just unveiled a NEW menu that features lower prices for many of the menu items. New Cake Bake Shop Menu Quiches now start at $23.99 for a Broccoli Quiche (which was previously $28), a Classic Burger with Pommes Frites costs $26.99 (was previously $32), and a children’s Grilled Cheese can be purchased for $13.99 (compared to $18 previously). Menu with Lower Prices Drinks have also decreased in price. You can grab a soda like Coca-Cola or Root Beer for $6.99, compared to $8 before. Many of the drinks only decreased a tiny bit, like Iced Tea, Lemonade, and pots of tea that decreased by one cent. And coffee & espresso options actually increased in price. A Cafe Latte now costs $7.99, but it cost $6 before. A Chai Tea Latte now costs $8.99, compared to $7 before. New Cake Bake Shop Menu We are continuing to keep a close eye on this new restaurant and will keep you updated. 3. We’re here at Disneyland to cover the debut of the Lightning Lane Premiere Pass! Disneyland We’re conquering every ride included with the Premier Pass and, in the process, learning a thing or two about the new skip-the-line system. While we were prepared for most things the Premier Pass had to offer — including its astronomical price — there were some surprises with the new system that we have to tell you about! The new Lightning Lane Premiere Pass went live at the Disneyland Resort on October 23rd, 2024, and is an alternative to the newly renamed Lightning Lane Multi Pass. ©Disney The Premier Pass grants the user one-time entry to each available Lightning Lane at each Disneyland theme park, which is useful if you are on a time crunch or have the extra cash to spend. Negating the need to make reservations and use the Disneyland App nonstop, this pass simplifies the Lightning Lane process, albeit for $400 a person. Lightning Lane at Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway Other features include unlimited PhotoPass digital downloads and augmented reality photo lenses on the day of purchase. The turnaround since the initial announcement has been a whirlwind, so, unsurprisingly, we learned quite a bit during our first day using the Premier Pass. Lightning Lanes What shocked us the most was how truly simple it was to use! You get one pass barcode for all attractions and you technically don’t even have to select the attraction in the app — just scan in when you get to the Lightning Lane and it will all link back to the same barcode. Matterhorn Bobsleds Lightning Lane in Disneyland Another thing that surprised us is that it’s essentially no different than the other Lightning Lane options in function once you’ve actually scanned into the line. There’s no “front of the line” access with Premier Pass, it just allows you to enter any of the Lightning Lanes once per day without having to schedule a time or mess with the Disneyland app to do so. Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin Lightning Lane We were also shocked by how unrestricted we felt as we were using Premier Pass. With Single Pass and Multi Pass, you’re beholden to the times available in the app — and that’s IF you’re able to secure a Lightning Lane for those rides and they aren’t already sold out yet. We wouldn’t be shocked if folks with Premier Pass were easily able to ride everything in Disneyland and Disney California Adventure all in one day, either. Astro Blaster Lightning Lane In our experience, each ride was a near walk-on — but our reporter who tested things out for us noted that this day didn’t seem to be particularly crowded overall. Things could be different on the day you visit, but the sheer fact that you’re able to stroll into a Lightning Lane without having to worry about scheduling and timing is huge if you ask us! The current version of the Lightning Lane Premier Pass is limited and booking is allowed two days prior to use at 7AM PT. Through December 31st, 2024, the price will stay at $400 per person but may fluctuate between $300 and $400 depending on the date at the start of the new year. 4. Are you looking to skip the line on your upcoming Disney World vacation? Lightning Lane Over the summer, Disney changed their skip-the-line service from Genie+ to Lightning Lane Multi Pass, and Individual Lightning Lane became Lightning Lane Single Pass. The new Multi Pass system works similarly to its predecessor, FastPass+. You can now book your Lightning Lane selections and view prices before your trip. Those staying at Disney World hotels can book seven days before their trip, and the general public can book three days before their trip. Multi Pass is also broken up into tiers. You can choose one attraction from tier one and two attractions from tier two to start. If you are wondering which Lightning Lanes you should prioritize in 2025, we have you covered! When your booking window rolls around, you will be able to make your selections all at once, which means you do not have to check back every day. If you don’t know where to start, we recommend prioritizing the following rides, as they are super popular and can get snatched up quickly. You will be able to book both Lightning Lane Multi and Single Pass selections at the same time. Magic Kingdom Magic Kingdom has many popular rides, and it can be hard to decide on your first three selections for the day. Magic Kingdom We would suggest prioritizing the following: Seven Dwarfs Mine Train– Single Pass TRON Lightcycle / Run– Single Pass Tiana’s Bayou Adventure– Multi Pass Peter Pan’s Flight– Multi Pass Space Mountain– Multi Pass Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and TRON Lightcycle / Run are both Single Pass rides, which means they are not included with Multi Pass. In order to ride these attractions in the Lightning Lane, you will have to purchase a Single Pass for each person who wishes to ride these attractions. It is also important to note that TRON no longer has a Virtual Queue and only offers a standby line as well as a Lightning Lane Single Pass line. TRON entrance The other three attractions we suggest, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, Peter Pan, and Space Mountain, are all in the tier-one category. You can only select one during your initial booking. Lightning Lane Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is Disney World’s newest attraction and is still popular. It currently has a Virtual Queue line, but we are unsure how long it will stick around. So you can take the risk and choose another attraction from tier one and try to snag a Virtual Queue the day of. We will keep an eye out for any news regarding the fate of Virtual Queue at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, but for now, it is sticking around! EPCOT Our list for EPCOT is a little smaller, which makes it easier to choose which rides you want to prioritize. EPCOT For us, we go for the following: Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind– Single Pass Frozen Ever After– Multi Pass Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure– Mutli Pass Frozen Ever After in Disney World Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is so popular that it has utilized Virtual Queue longer than any other attraction. We find it to be unlikely that Virtual Queue will go away in 2025, but you never know. Even if you do snag a Virtual Queue, you could wait in line for about an hour on busy days. If you want to experience this popular attraction without the long wait or stress of snagging a Virtual Queue, we recommend splurging for Single Pass. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Frozen Ever After is still widely popular, and a line can sometimes form outside of the Norway Pavilion. The same goes for Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure; this attraction is also one of EPCOT’s newest attractions and, on average, has a wait time of over an hour. Both of these are tier-one selections, so if you are unable to get one, we suggest going for the other. Hollywood Studios Hollywood Studios has many new attractions, including Galaxy’s Edge and Toy Story Land. Due to this, it can be hard to figure out which rides you should make a priority. Hollywood Studios For us, we suggest the following: Rise of the Resistance– Single Pass Slinky Dog Dash– Multi Pass Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway– Multi Pass Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run– Multi Pass Slinky Dog Dash Rise of the Resistance is still one of the most popular attractions at Disney World, and it was so shocking that Virtual Queue went away. We highly suggest purchasing a Single Pass for it. Recently, a single-rider line has been added to the attraction, which could save you both time and money. We don’t recommend relying on this, as sometimes a single-rider is not offered. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance Slinky Dog Dash, Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, and Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run are all tier-one attractions, meaning you can only select one of these during the initial booking window. If you are a Star Wars fan and were unable to snag a Single Pass for Rise of the Resistance, choosing Smugler’s Run as your tier-one Multi Pass selection could be a good route. Smugglers Run If you don’t really care about Star Wars, we suggest going for Slinky Dog Dash and Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway. There are so many attractions to choose from at Hollywood Studios, so remember that you can save an attraction that usually has a longer wait until the end of the night, as you can get in line up to one minute before the park closes. Animal Kingdom Animal Kingdom is a little different from the other three parks as they do not have a tier system, but there is still a Single Pass option. Animal Kingdom We suggest going for the following attractions when booking: Flight of Passage– Single Pass Na’vi River Journey– Multi Pass DINOSAUR– Multi Pass Na’vi River Journey Flight of Passage may have opened six years ago, but it still draws long lines. We recommend purchasing Single Pass, Rope Dropping, or holding off to ride until the end of the night. Flight of Passage For your Multi Pass selections, we recommend Na’vi River Journey; it is not as popular as Flight of Passage but is still popular as it is in Pandora. DINOSAUR’s days are numbered, and although we do not have a closing date, we can see it getting more popular as people will ride one last time to say their goodbyes. DINOSAUR Now you know which rides to prioritize, but how exactly do you book these super popular attractions? We are so glad you asked! Here are four tips! Book a Disney World Hotel Disney World hotel guests get a huge Lightning Lane advantage. Guests staying at a Disney World Resort, regardless of whether it is a Value, Moderate, or Deluxe Resort, can book Lightning Lanes seven days in advance. If you are not staying at a Disney World hotel, you can only book three days in advance. Art of Animation By staying on the property, you are setting yourself up to get first dibs of popular attractions. Book as Soon as Your Window Opens Be ready! Whether you stay at a Disney World hotel and get the seven-day booking window, or you stay off-property and get the three-day window, you want to book as soon as you can! Lightning Lane This will give you the best advantage of snagging the rides you want because as it gets later into your booking window day, popular rides can already booked up. Know What You Want to Do Beforehand Talk with your party before your booking window rolls around, and make a list of everyone’s must-dos. Figure out the rides you want to go for first, and have backups in case you can’t get your first choice. Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway Lightning Lane It is always wise to go in with a game plan to make it easier to make your selections. The Day of, Book Lightning Lanes as Soon as You Can On the day you are set to visit the parks, you are able to book more Lightning Lanes once you start using your first three. So make sure to be on your game and continue to refresh and check the My Disney Experience app to ensure you are making as many selections as you can throughout the day. Lightning Lane Lightning Lanes can be confusing, but hopefully, this guide can help you figure out which rides to book during your 2025 vacation to Disney World! 5. It’s baaaaack. If you’ve been waiting for your chance to be part of Disneyland Resort’s Annual Pass program, you need to listen up. Unlike Disney World’s Annual Passes, the selection at Disneyland is not available to purchase 365 days a year. In fact, Disneyland Magic Key Passes are unavailable for a good portion of the year. ©Disney Although Magic Key sales are currently paused, Disney recently revealed some pretty significant price increases. We had a feeling that this meant Magic Key Passes would go on sale soon, and sure enough, Disney just dropped some big news about when these passes will go on sale. OK, people. It’s official. Disney confirmed that Magic Key Passes go back on sale Wednesday, November 6th, 2024. At that time, all four pass types will be available while supplies last. In the past, these have sold out quickly, so be ready to go on November 6th! ©Disney The online queue will open no earlier than 8:45AM Pacific Time, and sales begin no earlier than 9AM Pacific Time. In our experience, that virtual queue can be finicky, so keep a close eye on your screen while you wait to enter the website. ©Disney Here’s a look at the full list of prices ahead of November 6th: Inspire Key: $1,749 (was $1,649) Believe Key: $1,374 (was $1,249) Enchant Key: $974 (was $849) Imagine Key: $599 (was $499) Depending on the pass, that’s an increase of $100-$150, or 6%-20% (the higher percentage increase is for the cheapest pass level). The most expensive pass, the Inspire Key, comes with the most benefits, while the Imagine Key is only available for Southern California Residents living in zip codes 90000 to 93599. ©D23 Below, you can see some of the differences between the Annual Passes. Note that Inspire Keyholders get a higher merchandise discount, free standard parking, and up to 15% off food and beverages around the resort. ©Disney If you already have a Magic Key Pass, you can renew it now. Just note that the number of passes and pass types available for renewal may be limited. Exclusive Magic Key Lounge If you’re attempting to purchase a pass this November, we wish you the best of luck! 6. There are SO many quick service spots in EPCOT, how do you choose where to go for a cheap meal? Spaceship Earth With restaurants in all the World Showcase pavilions, plus a few options near the front of the park, you can get a wide variety of cuisine options around this park. But have you ever been to the food court? I took a trip there for lunch recently, and my experience was not what I expected! Atmosphere Sunshine Seasons is located in The Land Pavilion at EPCOT, and you can see the theming as soon as you walk in! The four hot air balloons that hang from the ceiling are themed to the four seasons of the year. Let’s go to Sunshine Seasons! The quick service restaurant is one of the largest in the park, and it has a TON of seating. Each of the different seating areas is themed to a different season. Seating area This is a great place to dine when it’s raining or if you’re planning on hitting up all the attractions inside the pavilion. More seating The seating area across from the restaurant between Soarin’ and Living With the Land is usually the emptiest, so this is typically my favorite place to sit when I dine here. Lots of indoor seating here! Sunshine Seasons has a food court-style set-up, where there are multiple order counters for different types of cuisine. There’s a dessert counter… Dessert counter …several different counters for various entrees… Ordering counters …as well as some refrigerated cases for grab-and-go items like sandwiches, fruit, and snacks. Prepackaged snacks There are multiple drink stations throughout the food court area. They have Coca-Cola products, as well as coffee and tea. Drink station After you pick up your food and drinks, you’ll head to one of the checkout counters. Here, you can pick up other prepackaged snacks like chips. Checkout counters And once you’ve checked out, there are condiment stations near the seating areas. They’ve got a variety of prepackaged options, including add-ins for your coffee. Condiment station So what’s on the menu at Sunshine Seasons? Menu The important thing to note about this review is that I went to Sunshine Seasons for LUNCH. The lunch menu is the most extensive of the three meals, so if you want the best experience, go here midday. Starting out, there are 10 different hot entrees that you can order at the various counters. They’ve got everything from fish to chicken to stir-fry to pizza rolls. There’s a lot of variety! ©Disney For grab ‘n’ go entrees, they have offerings like salads and wraps. These can be picked up from the refrigerated section. ©Disney This restaurant is home to more kids’ meal options than some other places. You can order salmon, chicken, grab ‘n’ go meals, pizza rolls, or mac and cheese. ©Disney Sunshine Seasons has a TON of snack options, since it’s set up food court style. They have fruit, prepackaged snacks, chips, candy, and more. ©Disney And of course, we’ve got to mention dessert! The Peanut Butter Whoopie Pie and Turtle Brownie are favorites. They also have rotating seasonal milkshakes at the dessert counter. ©Disney Let’s order some food and test it out! Eats To get a good feel for the menu, I ordered two entrees and a dessert — let’s dig in! Sunshine Seasons Full Spread Starting out with one of my faves from this restaurant, we’ve got the Pepperoni Pizza Roll for $11.79. It’s served with pasta salad on the side. If you like hot pockets or pizza rolls, this is definitely a meal you may want to try! Pepperoni Pizza Roll Rolled inside the dough was mozzarella cheese, sauce, and pepperoni. Most of the pepperoni was concentrated in the middle of the roll, so the ends were a little less exciting, but this is a fun and unique way to eat pizza, and I enjoyed it more than I’ve enjoyed some of the round personal pizzas I’ve had in the parks. The pepperoni was savory and meaty, the sauce had a nice tomato tang, and the cheese was plentiful. My only complaint is that this can be a smidge greasy. Inside the pizza roll The pasta salad on the side is pretty good, but it’s not really anything to write home about. The pasta was soft and there was a decent amount of dressing, but I think it would’ve been improved with the addition of more add-ins like olives or feta cheese. Pasta Salad For my second entree, I ordered the Stir-fried Chicken for $12.29. This comes with teriyaki chicken, peppers, onions, pineapple, and a tangy sweet-and-sour sauce. Stir-Fried Chicken This dish smelled INCREDIBLE, so I was really excited to try it, but unfortunately, I was let down a bit. The rice was dry and crunchy in some places, but the sauce did have a nice mix of sweetness with a hint of spice. The chicken thighs were a little bit gristly and a smidge overcooked, which made them drier. The peppers and onions were also overcooked, making them mushy. Honestly, the flavors here were pretty delicious (especially with the tropical kick from the pineapple), but the textures are where things went a bit off the rails. Let’s dig in! For dessert, I ordered one of our DFB faves, which is the Peanut Butter Whoopie Pie for $4.29. This is such a cheap treat, but the portion size is great! Peanut Butter Whoopie Pie You get two chocolate cake-like pieces with a peanut butter frosting filling, and then it’s topped with chocolate shavings and a bit of whipped cream. You’ll probably want to eat this quickly because the frosting is very light and it will start to squish as you let it sit. The whoopie pie itself is definitely more cake-like and the chocolate is rich and not too sweet. That’s good, considering the frosting is VERY sweet — it tastes like regular whipped frosting with peanut butter mixed in. This would be a great treat for chocolate and peanut butter lovers, but I won’t say that it’s the BEST chocolate/peanut butter treat in Disney World. Definitely better than many quick service desserts though, and I would recommend it! Inside the whoopie pie So how does Sunshine Seasons fare? Overall All in all, I think this restaurant is sorely underrated. People talk about all the places to eat in World Showcase, so Sunshine Seasons gets overlooked, but it has some great menu variety, plenty of seating, and some truly top-notch snacks and sweets. Plus, it’s indoors, so it’s a great choice when it’s raining! Inside Sunshine Seasons You’re probably not going to order a culinary masterpiece here, but it’s not bad by Disney quick service standards. It’s not topping our “best restaurants” list anytime soon, but it’s also not offending us. This is just a classic, reliable choice! Nosh or Not? Celebrate the four seasons and dine in The Land if… You want a relaxing, air-conditioned place to enjoy a cheap meal. Want to sit down in air conditioning but don’t want to spend an arm and a leg? This is a reliable spot! There are almost always seating options available and it’s not too popular. You’re eating lunch. Sunshine Seasons has the best menu offerings at lunchtime, whereas the dinner and breakfast options are a bit more limited. You want to knock out The Land Pavilion all at once. Hitting up Soarin’, Living with the Land, and Awesome Planet all at once? Don’t worry about walking to the World Showcase to get food! Just stay in the pavilion, grab your eats, and then move on. Venture outside The Land for your meal if… You’re eating breakfast or dinner. The menu is more limited here for those two meals as compared to lunchtime. You want truly spectacular cuisine. The food here isn’t groundbreaking, so if you want some really amazing quick service food, you might want to try elsewhere. It’s a festival season. If you want to enjoy some festival food around EPCOT, we would recommend doing that for one of your meals instead of stopping at a quick service. The eats! That’s a wrap on my visit to Sunshine Seasons! Thanks so much for coming along, and stay tuned to DFB for more food reviews from Disney World. 7. If you’re heading to Disney World soon, you might want to apologize to your wallet beforehand. Boatwright’s Dining Hall Planning a trip to Disney World is tricky enough before even factoring in cost. We’re no strangers to Disney World price increases, as we’ve seen things like ticket prices and Lightning Lane costs get more expensive this year. Unfortunately, the blows aren’t slowing down as Disney World has increased food costs across their resorts. Historically, we’ve seen a trend where general Disney World prices start to increase around October, and unfortunately, that trend continues. The following price increases are just a sample of what we have seen so far at the resorts. 8. It’s a BIG day in Disneyland Resort! Disneyland Today (October 23rd), Disney is launching its new Lightning Lane Premier Pass service on the West Coast (before it launches in Disney World next week), and we’re here to try it out. Is this new offering for skipping the long lines worth the cost? We’re about to find out. Purchasing Lightning Lane Premier Pass To purchase Lightning Lane Premier Pass, you’ll need to log into the Disneyland app at 7AM Pacific time two days before your visit. But as it’s the first day of the offering, we had to purchase the morning of. Starting on the app home page, you’ll need to select the Premier Pass option… ©Disney … and choose which day you’d like to use it for. ©Disney Once you purchase your Premier Pass, a single scannable ticket appears in the Disneyland App for you to use, and the wait times for each eligible ride appear on app’s home screen. ©Disney Step-By-Step: How to Buy Lightning Lane Premier Pass on the Disneyland App Using Lightning Lane Premier Pass We’re starting out by testing the Premier Pass at Disneyland! Here, we headed to Galaxy’s Edge first to see how it works. When we reached Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, we opened the app and selected the attraction from the list of available Premier Pass attractions. ©Disney … which in turn redeemed our pass for the simulator attraction. ©Disney Following our ride, Smugglers Run was “Redeemed” and is now unavailable to be selected a second time. ©Disney Issues You May Encounter Be forewarned that while Premier Pass is expensive, the actual process when you arrive at the attraction is the same. You’ll still redeem at the Lightning Lane entrance and join the same Lightning Lane queue that you would if you were using Lightning Lane Multi Pass or Lightning Lane Single Pass. 9. There is now a new Lightning Lane option at Disneyland! ©Disney Over the summer, Genie+ transformed into Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Individual Lightning Lane became Lightning Lane Single Pass. This new system allows you to book Lightning Lanes at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure through the Disneyland app. Unlike Disney World, you cannot book Lightning Lanes in advance. If you are tired of constantly having to be on your phone to book Lightning Lanes, soon there will be a third option called Lightning Lane Premier Pass, and here is how you can book them! Lightning Lane Premier Pass has officially debuted TODAY, October 23rd, at Disneyland, and unlike Multi Pass and Single Pass, Premier Pass CAN be booked two days in advance! Premier Pass will only have limited quantities available and if you want to purchase it, they go on sale at 7 AM Pacific Time. Disneyland This new service gives you access to every Lightning Lane once per day, including available Lightning Lane Single Pass options. The biggest selling point is that you won’t need to choose a return time; you can just head to the attraction you wish and hop in the Lightning Lane when you’re ready. Another perk is that you will get unlimited downloads of Disney PhotoPass digital photos from your day, as well as Disney PhotoPass lenses. Lightning Lane at Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway The downside is that it will be priced at $400 per person per day for park visits through December 31, 2024. Starting in 2025, the pricing will vary by date and demand and be within a $300 to $400 range. California Adventure You can purchase and book Premier Pass via the Disneyland app, and here is how! We didn’t see it as an option on the home page of the Disneyland app but found it when searching for “Lightning Lane Premier Pass” in the app. Once you pull it up, you’ll see the the option to purchase Premier Pass. Click on the “Purchase Lightning Lane Premier Pass” to continue. ©Disney You’ll then get a calendar for the days you can purchase Premier Pass for. You can purchase it up to two days in advance. Choose the date you’ll be buying it for. We chose today, October 23rd. ©Disney Once you chosen the date, you’ll see the date you chose as well as a checkbox to purchase the program. Double-check the details and then click on the checkbox and then click on “Continue.” ©Disney The next screen will give you details about who you’re purchasing the pass for. Make sure your entire group is listed before continuing. You’ll also get your subtotal. Click on “Continue” to continue your purchase. Once your purchase is complete, you’ll get a scannable “ticket.” ©Disney Stay tuned to DFB for more. 10. Here at DFB, we’ve eaten at EVERY Disney World restaurant. Magic Kingdom And over hundreds (probably thousands) of restaurant visits, we’ve had some good experiences, and we’ve had some not-so-good ones. Among those not-so-good ones, we’ve had a few rather stressful restaurant visits…including one at a popular character meal. Crystal Palace is one of Disney World’s most popular character meals, located right on the end of Main Street, U.S.A. in Magic Kingdom. This spot is a buffet where you can meet Winnie the Pooh and his pals — the only character meal where they’re available. Crystal Palace Because the meal is so popular, eating here can be fast-paced and slightly stressful. When things are running normally, characters may come by your table in quick succession. And the pathway of the characters when visiting tables is a little bit confusing, so it’s hard to tell sometimes when they’re coming to you next. Hey there Tigger! Because of this, one member of our team described this meal as “scary” because she was afraid to get up and grab food and accidentally miss a character. Unfortunately, she ended up picking the wrong moment to hit the buffet, and Piglet went right past her table. Piglet In some cases, Cast Members can bring characters back to your table if you get up at the wrong time. However, during this particular experience, we were told that Piglet couldn’t be pulled out of the rotation to come back to the table. This might be a big bummer if you miss your favorite character! Characters inside Crystal Palace So if this is a real fear for you, you might want to steer clear of character meals that are also buffets. Some options like Garden Grill, Topolino’s Terrace, ‘Ohana, Cinderella’s Royal Table, Akershus Royal Banquet Hall, and Storybook Dining at Artist Point will all serve food to your table instead of requiring you to get up and walk to a buffet. Breakfast plate from Crystal Palace Also, things are sometimes a bit more flexible at the less popular buffet character meals. While Crystal Palace and spots like Chef Mickey’s can be fast-paced, you might get a little more leeway with the characters if you go somewhere slower like Tusker House or Cape May Cafe. (In my personal experience, I got to see the characters multiple times at those last two restaurants!) Tusker House Ultimately, it’s up to you if you’d like to risk it with a buffet character meal during your visit. They can be stressful, but they can also be delicious and great for a group with a variety of food tastes. Stay tuned to DFB for more dining tips from Disney World! 13. We’re thrilled to share another exciting milestone as we “make way” towards the opening of the Island Tower addition at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows on December 17! This week, life-size sculptures of Moana and her iconic canoe were unveiled at the tower’s new splash pad play area called “Moana’s Voyage.” Just like Moana on her epic ocean adventure, little wayfinders will be able to embark on their own journey in this family-friendly splash zone. Kids will discover the wonders of water with playful sprayers and bubbly fountains all around them as imaginations flow free. The brand-new tower will make a splash with even more water features. Guests and Disney Vacation Club members will be able to unwind at the stunning Cove Pool, a zero-entry pool that will be perfect for lounging all day under the Florida sunshine. But that’s not all. These exciting new additions will join the already beloved lineup of restaurants, lounges, shops, and pools that make Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows a true fan-favorite. We can’t wait for you to experience these new aquatic features and make waves of memories—just like Moana! The post Moana Sails in at the Island Tower Expansion appeared first on Disney Parks Blog. 14. My kids and I have been soaking up the sunshine with several quick Disney Resort weekends – character surprises, free onsite transportation, early theme park entry, recreational activities for the whole family … what’s not to love? We just had the BEST time ringing in a fourth birthday celebration for my car-obsessed kiddo at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, one of our value accommodations, and I have to tell you all about it. Space to Stretch Out and Themed Amenities for Days My little family of three is easily comfortable in any resort room, but we brought the whole (pit) crew with us this time and needed a bit more space to spread out … Especially with a mix of little kids, a teen and grandparents! Enter, the Cars Family Suite at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort. Inspired by the Disney•Pixar mega-hit, Cars, this themed suite sleeps six and is a great value for families, with TWO full bathrooms, a kitchenette, three beds and tons of storage … and the dressers are even designed to look like tool cabinets right out of a mechanic shop! We loved having dedicated spaces like a separate dining area and living room, where the grandparents and my teenage stepson could relax while my littlest had an uninterrupted nap in the bedroom. We kept our Cars-weekend theme going with technology in the room, too, when we found a Cars bedtime story on the TV and a couple favorite characters greeted us on the “Hey Disney!” voice assistant. Life Could Be a Dream, with the Perfect Themes I seriously can’t say enough about the theming at this resort. The bathrooms are even designed to look like a car wash (‘cause, you know, washing?) – how cute is that? And just outside your door, you can pull right up next to life-size models of your favorite Cars characters for photos. TIP: The Cozy Cone Pool has orange-cone ‘cabanas’ available for free on a first-come, first-served basis, giving you an extra fun spot to lounge in the shade. This resort was a perfect place for the kids to spend quality time with their grandparents, playing a quick round of cornhole, catching a movie under the stars and swimming in one of the resort’s three themed pools (including the largest hotel pool at Disney World). Even a little afternoon rain didn’t stop the fun, with a tie-dye Mickey shirt craft, an arcade and lots of art supplies and books to read as a family inside Animation Hall. I was a happy mom, seeing my parents, littles and teenager enjoying their time together with so much to do around every corner. TIP: Chat with cast members! They know a ton about the resort’s many illustrations and can even point out some celebrity signatures on the artwork around Animation Hall. Snacking and Relaxing on a Budget was a Breeze Is it just me, or are kids ALWAYS hungry? This was never a problem at the resort, especially with so many fresh options at the Landscape of Flavors food court. I highly suggest the tasty and toasty meatball sub, and the Lightning McQueen and Little Mermaid waffles were a big hit for my kiddos – a twist on the classic Mickey waffle, with the same great taste! I love that they have separate counters to quickly order your food, but if you find yourself with a range of palates, use the My Disney Experience app to Mobile Order and save some time waiting at multiple counters. You can even do this before leaving your room – just choose your pick-up time and then sit back and relax until it’s ready. We also made the most of our budget by taking advantage of the room’s kitchenette with snacks on the go. The small fridge and microwave were a total game changer for late-night cravings, post-nap snacks and poolside juice boxes. TIP: Buy the Resort-Refillable Drink Mugs on day 1 to make the most of your money and keep you caffeinated and hydrated with free refills on beverages throughout your stay! Ditch the Highway and Take the Sky-Way for Free, Easy Theme Park Access We traded in Cars for aerial gondolas to wrap up our visit and spent a breezy trip gliding over Hourglass Lake aboard Disney Skyliner, pointing out all the Disney characters who adorn the resort buildings you could see from above. Disney Skyliner is celebrating its 5th anniversary this month and is our favorite way to reach EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It’s just part of the Disney Transportation system of buses, monorails and watercraft that provide complimentary theme park transportation when you stay at a Disney Resort hotel. TIP: Take Disney Skyliner to another nearby resort for a change of scenery – this mom loved a quick trip to the Joffrey’s Kiosk at the Trinidad Station for a seasonal latte! Something for Every Family, Age and Interest I know our trip was (purposefully) Cars-centric, but if you love Disney, this resort has a little something for everyone … Especially if you are a 90s animation fan like me! Other sections of the resort are themed to classics such as Finding Nemo, The Lion King and The Little Mermaid. It was extra fun having my parents there with us, since they were the ones who took me to see these Disney films as a kid – and now we got to enjoy them together with MY kids in tow. If you’re ready to make your own memories, visit DisneyWorld.com/specialoffers for ways to book and save on your stay, including special savings of up to 30% this holiday season. And one more TIP for you – if you visit in 2025, Disney Resort hotel guests can enjoy free water park admission on check-in day! 17. So, you are planning a Disney vacation, and the excitement is building among your family. What to pack, where are we staying, and oh yes, the most popular question of all … how many more days until Disney?! We get it and just like you, we here at planDisney can’t wait for our next Disney adventure. Whether you’re booking dining reservations 60 days before your trip or if your visit is just around the corner and it’s time to book Lightning Lanes, there are so many ways to count down to your Disney vacation. We’re always here to provide tips on how to stay, save and play at Walt Disney World, but have you ever thought of the many ways you can count down to that magical vacation? planDisney has, and we are here today to share some of our most creative ideas for counting down to your next magical Disney vacation. Tip #1: Use The Disney Countdown Clock Or Create Your Own Wondering just how many days are left before your next Disney trip? Amanda D. is always thinking about her next trip and reminds guests that they can use the Disney x Citizen countdown clock in the My Disney Experience and Disneyland apps to count the days until their hotel stays at Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort. She also loves that the app shows artwork specific to the resort she’s staying at on either coast. And let’s not forget that there is also a countdown app for Disney Cruise Line guests as well. “The trackers for land-based vacations feature the resort you’ll be visiting, and they’re really fun. Wherever you’re heading, there’s nothing as exciting as seeing those countdowns approach zero!” If you want to pass the time with a DIY project, create a paper chain like you might remember from school days. “Since our girls were small, we’ve always made a paper chain–usually featuring some Disney-themed paper—to count down to our next Disney adventure,” says Susan C. “It’s a fun way to involve kids in the planning! Even now that they’re teens, they still love to have our homemade countdown calendar to help us all get excited for our next trip Home!” Or if you’re visiting during the holiday season, add some festive flair, like Kristi R. does. “One of my favorite ways to build excitement for our holiday trips is to create a special countdown calendar (much like an Advent calendar) which reveals fun activities, dining reservations, and other little surprises to look forward to on our vacation. Our Elf has also been known to join the fun by delivering a new MagicBand+ or pair of Mickey ears direct from the North Pole!”    Tip #2: Enjoy Themed Disney Movie Nights “We love to have Disney movie nights to countdown to our next Disney vacation, often theming them to a ride we are most excited about,” explains Matt N. “We may watch TRON: Legacy to get pumped for the ride at Magic Kingdom or The Princess and the Frog for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. We may even have a themed treat to immerse us in the movie, too!” Tip #3: Remember and Share Old Disney Memories “Now that my daughters are adults and live in other states, our countdown takes a different approach. When we hit the 30-day mark, I start texting family photos of Disney Parks vacations to them from when they were young children,” explains Shannon D. “The closer we get to the trip, the more recent the photos. It is a perfect stroll down Main Street, U.S.A. memory lane as we count down the days to creating new magical memories!” For more great tips like these, the best ways to save on Disney vacations, our favorite Value Resorts, or for answers to your Disney vacation planning questions, visit us at planDisney.com and follow us at @planDisneyPanel on Instagram for more vacation planning tips and recommendations. 19. Planning a Disney World trip can be tricky, but we’re here to help in any way we can! Magic Kingdom If you’re traveling to Disney World in November, you’ll need to be aware of some changes, dates, and possible missteps that could befall you during your trip. But don’t worry — we’ll give you all the details on what to look out for so that you have the best November trip possible! Traveling to Disney World in November can get a little tricky, especially this year. Changes have made travelers adjust their itineraries; special events will cut park hours short, and the weather can get pretty confusing. We’re here to point out three mistakes you could make next month so that you avoid them altogether and win Disney World! Thanksgiving in Disney World (2023) Not Studying Up on the Lightning Lane Changes Hey, remember Genie+? Fun-ish times, right? Well, that system was completely wiped away over the summer and replaced with new skip-the-line options. Goodbye Genie+ Genie+ was ultimately replaced by Lightning Lane Single Pass and Lightning Lane Multi Pass. Both Lightning Lane Passes can be purchased before your trip with Lightning Lane reservation windows several days before your trip (how many days depends on where you’re staying). However, they differ in function. Lightning Lane Single Pass is used to specifically reserve Lightning Lane access for single attractions. These attractions include: Seven Dwarfs Mine Train TRON Lightcycle/Run Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance Avatar Flight of Passage ©Disney As for Multi Pass, this is a tiered system where you get way more options and can continue to replenish your reservations as you use them (within a set of rules, of course). With this system, ahead of time, you can select one attraction from the first tier and two attractions from the second tier, or three attractions from the second tier. To learn more about how Lightning Lane Multi Pass works, check out our video guide below! Now, there’s a third type of Lightning Lane Pass: Lightning Lane Premier Pass. This pass kicks in on October 30th and will also allow you to skip the standby lines of all participating attractions at a Disney Park once per day. The pass will only be available to guests staying at Deluxe and Deluxe Villas hotels and can be purchased up to seven days in advance of their stay (except for launch day). The pass will be park-specific and will have different pricing based on the park and date. The big difference here is that you do NOT need to reserve Lightning Lanes ahead of time. We’ve seen prices range from $129 to $449 per person. As of now, no Park Hopper option has been announced. ©Disney To learn everything there is to know about this Premier Pass, check out our guide below and continue to follow us as we live-test the new system when it’s rolled out. Everything You Need to Know about Lightning Lane Premier Pass in Disney World Going to Magic Kingdom or Disney’s Hollywood Studios on Party Nights Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Hollywood Studios are amazing to visit in November and during the holiday season — but there is a catch. Christmas in Magic Kingdom Magic Kingdom offers Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party on select nights, which will shorten park hours at “The Most Magical Place on Earth”. Magic Kingdom During Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party! This year’s Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party dates are as follows: November: 8, 11, 12, 14, 15, 17, 19, 21, 22, 24, 26, 27, and 29 December: 1, 3, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 13, 15, 17, 19, and 20 The event takes place from 7PM to midnight, forcing Magic Kingdom to close at 6PM. Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party Over at Hollywood Studios, Disney Jollywood Nights is another holiday party that shortens park hours for non-party-goers. Jollywood Nights! Jollywood Nights dates are as follows: November: 9, 13, 16, 18, 23, 25, and 30 December: 2, 7, 11, 14, 18, and 21 This event goes from 7:30PM to 12:30AM and closes the park to the general public at 7PM on event nights. Jollywood Nights If you plan on attending either event: GREAT! Then you won’t have to worry about park hours. However, if these events aren’t on your itinerary, you should either maximize your time at each park or go to another park instead on event days. Forgetting to Pack a Jacket Several tourists visit Disney World in the fall and winter to escape bad weather, but that doesn’t mean that it’s always 75°F and sunny in Central Florida during November! Frozen Ever After While warm weather still happens in November, it can get pretty chilly at night, believe it or not! The winter months actually do present a bit of cold, and while that can be a pleasant change from the blistering hot summer, it can also be unexpected to many. Snow! Our advice? Pack a jacket. If you come prepared, the worst-case scenario is you simply won’t need it. However, if you leave your jacket at home and find yourself freezing, the worst-case scenario becomes you overspending on a sweater or jacket that you otherwise wouldn’t have likely bought. Bringing a jacket will provide extra comfort, save you money, and make you extra prepared in case Disney World gets a bit chilly. WDW hooded jacket Are you visiting Disney World in November? 20. There are two things you need to know about me. First, I’m obsessed with Halloween. I promise I come by it honestly: I was literally BORN on Halloween (yes, before you ask, Halloween birthdays are THE BEST, but also confusing because for a long time, I thought ALL birthdays were celebrated with costumes and everyone giving you free candy). Halloween in Disneyland Another thing you should know: I love Disneyland. Now don’t get me wrong, I love Disney World, too, but there are just some things about Disneyland (ahem…the FOOD) that makes me love it more. Part of the reason is because Disneyland goes ALL out for Halloween — and, as a Halloween baby, nothing makes me happier. BOTH parks get decorated for the spooky season (and the gigantic Oogie Boogie above the California Adventure gates just makes me giddy this time of year). Oogie Boogie Bash is the superior Disney Halloween party (don’t come at me, but it’s true). Disneyland also has a really cool Halloween tradition that ties into a third thing you need to know about me: I’m a sci-fi nerd. So what does being a sci-fi nerd have to do with Disneyland at Halloween? Well, if you’ve visited Disneyland during Halloween Time, you might have noticed a VERY cool tree in Frontierland in front of the Golden Horseshoe Saloon. This tree gets a special spooky makeover with orange lights and jack-o’-lanterns during Halloween Time — and it all has to do with one of the most renowned sci-fi writers of all time, Ray Bradbury. The tree Bradbury was the genius behind stories like Fahrenheit 451, Something Wicked This Way Comes, and more. He became fascinated by Halloween as a child after watching the 1929 Silly Symphony short The Skeleton Dance (I’ve seen a LOT of Disney Halloween merchandise over the past few years dedicated to it). Many years later, Bradbury met Walt Disney and the two became friends — but not just friends, they also became collaborators. ©Disney Believe it or not, Bradbury actually joined forces with Disney on many projects, including Spaceship Earth in EPCOT (yep, REALLY!). He also wrote screenplays for several Disney movies. However, his love of Halloween prompted him to write his 1972 novel The Halloween Tree, which told the story of a group of trick-or-treaters who learn all about Halloween’s origins while searching for a missing friend. ©Amazon Bradbury had always dreamed of having a Halloween tree at Disneyland, and in 2007, on the 35th anniversary of The Halloween Tree novel, his wish finally came true. The oak tree in Frontierland was given a makeover with twinkling orange lights and jack-0′-lanterns that hang from its branches. Jack-o’-lanterns hang from its branches At the tree’s dedication ceremony, Bradbury said, “I belong here in Disneyland. Ever since I came here 50 years ago. I’m glad I’m going to be a permanent part of the spirit of Halloween at Disneyland.” LOVE it Since then, The Halloween Tree has been an annual Halloween Time Disneyland tradition (and one of my favorites). You’ll even see the dedication plaque at the base of the tree during spooky season, so you can’t miss it. The Halloween Tree dedication plaque See? I told you Halloween at Disneyland RULES. The Halloween Tree is one big reason why. However, Disneyland isn’t the only place you can now see Bradbury’s Halloween tree. You’ll also see a version of it on Disney Cruise Line ships for Halloween on the High Seas sailings. It’s a way Disney honors Bradbury’s contribution to the company, as well as his friendship with Walt. Stay tuned to DFB for more. Photos AND Reviews: Halloween Time TREATS in Disneyland Resort! 22. Mid-October feels a little bit like the calm before the storm in Disney World. Holidays in Disney World Ride refurbishments are a part of life at Walt Disney World. There’s rarely a day where every single attraction on the property is operating at the same time, as rides and attractions are often down for everything from quick fixes to long restoration projects. Each month, we like to check in on Disney World’s calendar to see what rides will be down and for how long. November 2024 is currently scheduled to be a LIGHT month for refurbishments at Walt Disney World. As of mid-October, the only attraction scheduled to be closed is EPCOT’s Test Track. The massive automotive-themed E-Ticket has been closed since June, as Disney radically transforms the attraction into its third distinct incarnation of the last quarter-century. The latest version is said to include elements from its EPCOT Center predecessor, World of Motion. Test Track is scheduled to reopen sometime in 2025. Test Track concept art ©Disney Outside of Test Track, the rest of Walt Disney World is scheduled to be operational throughout November, including the Holiday-themed Jungle Cruise overlay the Jingle Crusie, which is opening on November 2nd. Given that the Holiday season is one of the, if not the, busiest periods of the year at the resort, it makes sense that Disney would want as many rides and attractions as possible open during November and December. However, that all changes in January. In the weeks following the end of the Christmas season, Disney World will see a spate of closures. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will be closing on January 6th for an extended refurbishment that Disney says will last at least into the early part of 2026. Just a few days later, TriceraTop Spin, Fossil Fun Games, and Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures at Animal Kingdom will all close permanently on January 13th, 2025. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Both of these closures tie into the ongoing future of Walt Disney World. While Big Thunder Mountain has arguably needed the TLC of a long refurbishment for a while, it’s likely no coincidence that it’s happening at the same time that Disney is likely to begin construction on the new Cars area in Frontierland, which is replacing the nearby Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island. Meanwhile, the Dinoland U.S.A. closures are the first portion of a phased closure of Dinoland as a whole, which is being done to make way for the construction of Animal Kingdom’s new Tropical Americas addition. TriceraTop Spin November is scheduled to see Disney World operating at near full ride capacity, with Test Track being the only ride scheduled for refurbishment during the month. However, that seems to be the calm before a storm of 2025 closures. Stay tuned to DFB for further coverage. 24. Don’t be fooled! Just because summer is over does NOT mean the rainy season is finished in Disney World. In fact, hurricane season runs all the way through November 30th! Prepare for at least one or two downpours during your trip. Rainy Day in Magic Kingdom For those who aren’t well-versed in Central Florida weather, we have one tip: invest in some good, quality rain gear. Here’s what we recommend! FROGG TOGGS Poncho As the name implies, this is a nice, lightweight poncho that is shockingly breathable. The sleeves aren’t made with that annoying elastic, and the hood is the perfect size. 25. We go to Disney World every day and we love to share our best tips with you to help make your vacation more enjoyable! Magic Kingdom From personal experience, we don’t just know the best Disney World bathrooms, we also know the worst ones! There are a few bathrooms that we always avoid, so don’t worry; we are going to tell you where you should go instead! Let’s start with the absolute WORST one: The bathrooms in Hollywood Studios, located where you enter the park on Hollywood Boulevard, are our biggest restroom offender. You will see them as soon as you enter the park, and since they are the first ones, they are usually crowded and not always very clean. Hollywood Studios To top it off, sometimes characters appear on the balcony above these restrooms, so guests wanting to take photos and videos occasionally block them. It’s just a little too chaotic for us to rely on. It gets crowded! Thankfully, there are some much better restrooms before you enter the park. Outside of security, there’s a set of bathrooms to the left of the entrance. They’re usually very quiet, with plenty of stalls inside. Use the bathrooms outside of security instead! While we think the Hollywood Boulevard bathrooms are the worst, some other bathroom offenders made our list. The next set of bathrooms that we could live without are also in Hollywood Studios. These are the ones located in the middle of Sunset Boulevard, about halfway down the street. For some unknown reason, they’re one of the hottest and stickiest places in all of Disney World, and they’re pretty much always busy. Sunset Blvd Save yourself some sweat and use one of the other three bathrooms on Sunset Boulevard. There are some next to Tower of Terror and some by Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, but our personal favorites are the relatively unknown ones by the recently-closed Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy, which will be replaced by the up-and-coming Disney Villains show, slated to open next summer! Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy Let’s move on over to Magic Kingdom in Tomorrowland. One of the most popular restrooms is right next to Star Traders, and since they are so popular, that is the exact reason why you need to avoid them! These bathrooms are out in the open, so they’re usually really busy and not always the cleanest. Star Traders Instead, head over to Space Mountain, where there’s another set of restrooms behind the Rockettower Plaza Stage. These have quite a few stalls and are usually much calmer and cleaner. Stitch on the Rockettower Plaza Stage Also, in Magic Kingdom, Storybook Circus has so many things going for it — cute theming, lots of activities for kids, and great character meets. But what is the one thing you should avoid there? The bathrooms! Storybook Circus In our experience, the bathroom floors inside Storybook Circus tend to be…wet. There’s a splash pad for kiddos right outside these bathrooms, so they’re constantly being tramped through. Instead, there’s a great set of quiet restrooms behind Gaston’s Tavern in New Fantasyland — which are usually less of a slip-and-fall hazard. Gaston’s Tavern Now, on to EPCOT! We encourage you to avoid the restrooms at the front of the park by Spaceship Earth because both the restrooms to the left and right always seem to be so busy — yet there are much better (and less busy) options nearby. Spaceship Earth If you’re heading toward World Discovery, stop inside Connections Eatery. The restrooms are much newer, have some of the nicest changing tables in Disney World (if you need a place to change your baby), and have plenty of stalls, too! As long as you’re not in there during the meal rush, they’re typically not too crowded. Connections Eatery And if you’re heading toward World Nature, there are some quiet, hidden bathrooms in The Seas Pavilion, as well. Not many people visit them because they’re on the back of the first floor, but they’re still a great place to take a pit stop away from the masses. The Seas with Nemo and Friends Finally, let’s head to Animal Kingdom, where we don’t have too many complaints about the bathrooms, to be honest. But the one next to Chester and Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures in DinoLand, U.S.A. is a lot like the one on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood Studios — it’s just unusually hot and sticky. Chester and Hester’s Instead of using those while you’re soaking up your last moments inside DinoLand U.S.A. before it’s rethemed, make your way over to Restaurantosaurus. The dining location’s restroom has an outside entrance as well. And because it’s inside a restaurant, it’s typically much cleaner and has better AC. Restaurantosaurus Well, there you have it! Keep this list in mind to help make your trip to the bathroom at Disney World a little more pleasant.
