Okay, so we might be big fans of Disney food, but we won’t lie, we love McDonald’s, too. McDonald’s We also love when McDonald’s tries new things, like that whole Cosmic Mc’s location that we also just HAD to try out. We’re also trying out new snacks when they release at McD’s, but this time, we’re super excited to try a sandwich that’s finally made it to the U.S. after debuting internationally. It’s the Chicken Big Mac…and let’s just say we have some thoughts about it. So, the Chicken Big Mac debuted in the U.K. in 2022, and, apparently, it was such a hit there that McDonald’s began testing it here in the U.S. at select locations. Now, though, the Chicken Big Mac is available everywhere, so we ran to our local McDonald’s to see what all the fuss was about. ©McDonald’s The Chicken Big Mac is a lot like its beefier counterpart, except with chicken. You get two tempura chicken patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, and pickles, on a sesame seed bun. We’re going to have to start our review, though, by warning you our reporter hasn’t had a Big Mac (shocking, we know), so they are basically judging the new sandwich on its own merits. You’re getting an unbiased review here, people. Overall, it’s just a BIG old chicken sandwich. Chicken Big Mac box We will say that we thought it was good, but the Big Mac sauce just kind of throws it all off. It just doesn’t seem to belong on chicken. So, yeah, it’s kind of…well, weird. There it is, in all its glory The lettuce is finely diced and adds a little crunch, but most of the crunch comes from the chicken. The tangy pickles are good, too, if you’re a pickle fan. The cheese doesn’t add a lot of flavor. Again, the flavor you’re mostly hit with is the Big Mac sauce. Inside If you are more of a chicken fan than a burger fan, this could please you, but honestly, we just think the Big Mac works better as a burger. Sorry, McDonald’s! Stay tuned to DFB for more. Disney World has over 50 rides to experience while you’re on vacation, and that’s a lot to accomplish in one trip! Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Especially when you realize that doesn’t include the incredible shows you can experience, taking breaks for meals and snacks, and being sure you take the time needed to stay hydrated during the day. Oh yeah, and shopping! If you’re planning a trip soon and want to experience as many attractions in one day as you can, we asked our readers on Facebook what ride hacks they recommend other travelers use, and these are some HOT tips you won’t want to miss! Rope Drop, Nap, Then Park Close We thought this was a really interesting strategy, because it involves two of the ones we usually give, but with a twist in the middle that can be really beneficial. One of our readers, James, simply said, “Rope drop, nap, park close.” Slinky Dog Dash This was quickly backed up by another reader, Sarah, who said in her reply, “That nap between 12:30-2:30 does wonders!!” We often give the advice to rope drop OR stay until park close, but doing both is quite the long day that can seriously tire you out and not prepare you for future days (but is certainly doable!). With this strategy, head back to your hotel in the middle of the day to rest, take a nap, relax in the pool, etc., and then get ready to get back out there after lunch. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Now, this is easiest if you’re staying at a Disney World hotel since you can take free transportation from the park to the hotel and back, but it’s also doable if you’re staying off property and have your car — just be sure you save your parking receipt so you don’t have to pay again! Single Rider Lines You may have heard about single rider lines very often in Disney World, and truthfully, they’re an incredible resource, although we do wish there were more of them around the resort. On our Facebook post, Christine wrote, “Single rider lines. My family uses them regularly to skip long lines. We don’t care that we won’t sit together.” Test Track (June 2024) It’s true that by using single rider lines you’re agreeing to the fact that your party will very likely not sit together on the ride, but you’ll still wait in the queue together! Sometimes it’s a longer wait, like at Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster (this one can be so long in fact that it’s actually the only one we recommend NOT using), but often you’ll wait 5-10 minutes or less to ride, even if the standby wait is well over an hour! Expedition Everest Now, we said that not every ride uses a single rider line, so which rides can you experience them on? Check out our list below! Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run (Disney’s Hollywood Studios) Rise of the Resistance (Disney’s Hollywood Studios; this line is currently testing and isn’t always available!) Expedition Everest (Disney’s Animal Kingdom) Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster (Disney’s Hollywood Studios) Test Track (EPCOT; this was prior to its refurbishment closure, but we’re hoping to see it reopen with the ride in 2025!) On any ride, we recommend listening closely to Cast Members calling for single riders, because it may mean you get to skip the last bit of the line! Ride During Fireworks and Peak Meal Times Riding rides while other people are preoccupied doing things like watching nighttime shows or dining is a great way to catch rides at slightly lower wait times. This is especially true for those nighttime shows, as they have set schedules every night, so people will know to get in line at certain times and when the actual attraction will be taking place. Getting ready for the fireworks Reader Stephanie shared, “Go during fireworks. We set up numerous nights to see the different night shows. But If it’s the same show we saw before it’s ride time.” And this is an extra special tip because Stephanie is right — if seeing the shows is important to you on your vacation, we recommend planning at least TWO separate times to see it. Why? Because one night may get rained out, or the show could have an issue to prevent it from playing. Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party fireworks This way, you can be sure to catch the show on one night and choose to catch those lower wait times on the other. Lightning Lane Multi Pass Now, we’re not saying that buying Lightning Lane Multi Pass is a tip, even though it is a great way to get you on more attractions by skipping the lines, but reader Jeanine has a great tip that’s so important if you HAVE chosen to purchase Lightning Lane Multi Pass for your vacation. She says, “With the new LL multi pass, get a tier 2 as early in your park day as you can, so you have a free one to work with. Once you scan into that first LL the tiers don’t matter anymore, so you can book the higher demand ones. Worth it to do something less popular shortly after park open so you can keep booking more.” ©Disney This is a fantastic tip that we also quickly discovered with the new service, and it’s a great way to start booking more Lightning Lanes early in the day, rather than not being able to book any new ones until you use up your first 2-3 hours into the park day. ©Disney Even getting to skip the lines on “filler” attractions around the parks can save you more time than you realize — 5-10 minutes here and there really does add up! We’re always here to bring you the latest tips and tricks to help you have the best vacation, so stay tuned to DFB! Y’all. Disney just loves to tease us with just about everything. Disneyland Before the D23: The Ultimate Fan Event, Disney teased us with the name of its Parks and Experiences Panel, Horizons, and made us question just what the company would announce (and they blew us OUR minds with the actual announcements). Sometimes, we get teasers for TV shows and movies. Well, now, Disney could be teasing the return of a VERY popular parade, and we just need confirmation already! So, this HAS to be a hint that Paint the Night is returning, right? This was a fan-favorite nighttime parade that debuted 10 years ago in Disneyland for the resort’s 60th anniversary. It looks like it’s (hopefully!!!) coming back for Disneyland’s 70th anniversary in 2025! ©Disney Of course, Disney ONLY posted a teaser, but it’s a sure bet that we’ll get confirmation soon about the return of Paint The Night, and hopefully, along with the date the parade will debut (presumably in 2025). But for now, Disney, why do you have to tease us like this? Anyway, we hope this is just the first of MANY announcements about Disneyland’s plans for its 70th Anniversary Celebration. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge We’ll be keeping an eye out for more details, OF COURSE, so stay tuned to DFB for more. Did Disney Just Quietly Change a Restaurant Name? Want to Learn More About Disneyland? Does one of Disney World’s most popular theme park lands have a major issue? Magic Kingdom Magic Kingdom is the most visited theme park in the world, and for good reason. Home to tons of fantastic attractions, entertainment, and more, Magic Kingdom is THE juggernaut in the theme park industry. With that said, the park isn’t without its own imperfections, which our readers pointed out recently. Storybook Circus in Fantasyland popped up a few times, criticism of Liberty Square‘s colonial America theming was apparent, and jokes about Frontierland welcoming in the new Cars theming were made. Reader Fred wrote, “I’d re-theme Frontierland to an early American theme. Add a paddle wheel boat and an island named after a Mark Twain character. Have a shooting arcade and a water ride with characters from Song of the South.” We have to admit, you got a good chuckle out of us, Fred. Storybook Circus However, one popular response truly stood out: Tomorrowland. Not surprisingly, Tomorrowland at both Magic Kingdom and Disneyland are often criticized for ironically falling behind with the times and not maintaining Disney standards. Fans picking this land in particular was kind of expected at this point. Tomorrowland Tomorrowland was designed to give guests a glimpse at possible futures, which sounds cool on paper but comes with a major caveat — the future always arrives. Quickly over time, the land at both coasts has become outdated and in some serious need of TLC. Fortunately, our readers have come up with several retheme ideas that could really elevate Tomorrowland! Tomorrowland Reader Steve wrote that Tomorrowland “falls short” and that the land is missing coherence as it “feels like it’s haphazard rather than a planned experience.” Reader Shawn took a pragmatic approach, suggesting the land match Disneyland Paris’ steampunk theming. Reader Bridget echoed that sentiment by suggesting a land themed around space or tech that helps keep Tomorrowland relevant. Space Mountain Several of our readers pointed out that the easiest solution is to really focus on the tomorrow part of Tomorrowland. Reader Christy simply wrote, “I would re-theme Tomorrowland to Tomorrowland.” Reader Jeni added that the land doesn’t require a retheme as much as it does an update. TRON Lightcycle / Run However, we did see some ideas that involved totally new rethemes. Reader Barbara suggested retheming Tomorrowland into a Retro Land that included old rides such as The Great Movie Ride. ©D23 Reader Wendy proposed scrapping the land altogether and adding a Frozen Land. This would make some sense, as Frozen has been popping up at Disney Parks globally over the past few years. ©Disney Another suggestion from reader Rich was changing Tomorrowland to San Fransokyo, which would also reflect a different modern addition. San Fransokyo Square popped up at Disney California Adventure in 2023 if it were to ever come to Magic Kingdom, we would expect something much larger with some pretty cool attractions. San Fransokyo Square Changing Tomorrowland is no small ask and it’s always a tough task to mess with something as nostalgic as Tomorrowland. The possibility of a retheme might be closer than we think. Once the new Cars Land and Villains Lands open, Disney might turn their attention to Tomorrowland. How would you revitalize the land? Would you retheme it or update it? Is it perfect the way it is? While many closures have been announced for Disney World, one closure is about to hit EPCOT next week. Spaceship Earth Just earlier this month, Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy closed permanently to make way for a new Disney Villains stage show coming to Hollywood Studios. The closures of DinoLand U.S.A. and Tom Sawyer Island, along with the Rivers of America, are imminent, as they will soon close to make way for new attractions. Currently, Test Track is closed in EPCOT as it is being reimagined into a third version of the attraction. Soon, another experience at EPCOT will close, but this closure is permanent. The Seas with Nemo and Friends is home to an impressive 5.7 million gallon saltwater aquarium. Here, you can learn all about sea life and even take a ride with Nemo and all his friends on The Seas with Nemo & Friends. The Seas with Nemo and Friends It was announced earlier last month that one manatee and three dolphins would be permanently removed from the pavilion. Manatee Exhibit Lou, the 1,800-pound manatee, moved to a manatee rehabilitation center in Florida on September 11th of this year. Lil Joe, the other manatee housed in the pavilion, got to meet his new friend, Inigo, shortly after Lou’s relocation. Hey, Inigo! While the manatee exhibit is still at EPCOT, Disney World announced in late October that it will relocate three dolphins to the Gulfarium Marine Adventure Park in Fort Walton Beach. Dolphins in EPCOT Due to this, the EPCOT Seas Adventures — Dolphins in Depth tour will permanently close. Disney said, “This decision came after a comprehensive evaluation as to what is best for these dolphins as infrastructure work progresses at The Seas.” ©Disney The backstage tour is a two-hour tour and dolphin encounter, and it will end on October 19th, just one week away. While this tour is not permanently closing, EPCOT Seas Adventures — DiveQuest, a two-hour backstage tour and SCUBA experience in the 5.7-million-gallon saltwater aquarium, will also close on October 19th. According to Disney, DiveQuest will return in 2025. Reservations for both backstage tours will still be honored through October 19th. As of October 20th, the tour will be officially closed. ©Disney Make sure to make plans to visit EPCOT before the three male dolphins are relocated and to say hello to Inigo, the new manatee! Disney’s theme parks had Bag Checks as far back as I can remember. But since late 2015 metal detectors have been added to the security lineup. On 17 December 2015, literally overnight, America’s theme parks all began using some form of metal detectors. This includes Disneyland in California, Walt Disney World in Florida, Universal’s theme […] The post Your 2024 Introduction to Disneyland Resort Security – Plus Some Tips appeared first on Military Disney Tips Blog. If there’s one Disney World park that’s known for its wide variety of culinary options, it’s EPCOT! Japan Pavilion in EPCOT With 11 different countries in the World Showcase and at least one restaurant in each pavilion, there are SO many options. You can try eats from all over the world, and while some are pretty spectacular, others can be…lackluster. Recently, I stopped by one of the park’s least popular restaurants to see if it’s a hidden gem, or truly just a swing and a miss. Atmosphere For this review, I’m taking you along with me to Katsura Grill! This quick service spot is tucked away in the back of the Japan Pavilion, hidden amongst the stunning gardens. It even has a somewhat hidden staircase entrance! Let’s go to Katsura Grill! The views around the restaurant are absolutely beautiful. On a nice day, I could spend hours strolling through the gardens and just enjoying the sights and sounds. It’s tucked away in a garden The restaurant has a rather lovely outdoor seating area. It was pretty peaceful when I first sat down out here and no other parties were sitting outside for the lunch rush yet. The sounds of the wildlife and the running water nearby were quite calming. Outdoor seating But if you prefer some air conditioning, there’s also seating inside the restaurant. It’s a little limited, but the windows provide nice views outside. Inside the restaurant This is one of the few quick service spots in Disney World that doesn’t offer Mobile Order. You’ll have to stand in line at the counter to get your food, so there was already a line early on in the lunch rush. Counter and queue Now let’s dive into that menu! Menu The menu screen was broken up into two parts. In the first section, you’ll find sushi roll options, as well as ramen and udon. They also have a Chicken Cutlet Curry. Menu If you want a beverage, they’ve got beer, sake, cocktails, and soft drinks. And for dessert, you can either get the Mousse Cake or the beloved Yuzu Cheesecake. The other half of the menu If you want a different type of entree, you can try ordering one of the teriyaki dishes — they come in shrimp, chicken, and beef varieties. Sides available include yuzu miso wings, edamame, salad, and miso soup. ©Disney And we can’t forget about the kiddos! There are three different teriyaki options for them as well. ©Disney Let’s dive into what I ordered! Eats I wanted to try from a few different sections, so I got the Shrimp and Chicken Teriyaki, the Beef Udon (which was listed on the online menu but not listed in the store), and the Mousse Cake. Full spread! Starting out with the Shrimp and Chicken Teriyaki, this is served with steamed rice and mixed vegetables for $14.99. It’s a pretty decent portion, but the rice and veggies were a little lacking. Some of the rice was still kind of crunchy, and the broccoli was BARELY steamed — still quite crunchy. There wasn’t much depth of flavor to either of those sides, so you’ll want to mix them with the teriyaki sauce for sure. Shrimp and Chicken Teriyaki The chicken pieces in this dish tasted and looked like they were made of chicken thighs, instead of chicken breasts. They were a bit juicier, but they were definitely a smidge on the fatty side. The sauce is a bit thin and doesn’t have much flavor besides some sweetness and a little bit of soy. Chicken Of the two meats, the shrimp was a smidge better, in my opinion. These were tender and juicy, with a nice amount of chew. However, my biggest issue here was that the tails were still on! Having the tails on the shrimp is a big pain when they’re swimming in sauce, because it’s rather messy to remove them. Is that a pet peeve for anyone else out there? Shrimp Next up was the Beef Udon, and this was by FAR my favorite thing I ate! It’s one of the pricier entrees at $15.99 but it makes up for that with rich flavor and sheer portion size. Beef Udon The noodles were soft and thick, which was the perfect texture for a soup. They weren’t mushy at all! You get a HUGE portion of shredded beef in the bowl, and it pairs perfectly with the hot, salty broth. This would be amazing on a cooler day. A forkful of noodles For dessert, I tried the lesser-known of the two sweet treats at Katsura Grill, the Mousse Cake. This is available for $6. Mousse Cake It’s a pretty simple yellow cake with strawberry flavored frosting and gelatin-like filling/topping. The cake itself wasn’t bad, but it also wasn’t anything to write home about. I was a smidge disappointed about this because I was expecting something a little more mousse-forward, but the only texture you get similar to that is the whipped frosting, which is just sugary and lightly fruit flavored. Forkful of cake So how does Katsura Grill fare overall? Nosh or Not? Make the trek up the hill to Katsura Grill if… You want some fast Japanese cuisine. If you’re craving Japanese cuisine and you want it FAST or on a budget, Katsura Grill is your main option. You’re an udon fan! If you like udon or other Japanese noodle dishes, this might be a good stop for a quick bite. You want to sit and relax in the garden. I won’t deny that the outdoor seating is absolutely lovely (if it’s not the hottest part of the year). It was a great way to unwind in the middle of a park day. Skip out on Katsura if… You want a guaranteed indoor seat. Seating indoors is limited and there aren’t many large tables. If you want an indoor meal, you might want to try somewhere larger like Connections Eatery. You want truly groundbreaking or spectacular cuisine. For top-notch Japanese eats, you’ll need to try one of the table service restaurants in the pavilion. We’re particular fans of Shiki-Sai: Sushi Izakaya. Katsura Grill review Overall In the end, I thought this restaurant was just fine… and that has been my experience with it on past visits as well. The mousse cake and the teriyaki were a bit underwhelming, but the Beef Udon really knocked it out of the park! If I were to recommend this spot, I would suggest stopping by for the udon or just to snag some grab-and-go sushi. Katsura Grill This also isn’t the most convenient spot in EPCOT because of its location and the fact that it doesn’t offer Mobile Order. The indoor seats fill up quickly, so it’s not as fun to dine here in the summertime if you have to sit outside. But when the weather is good? You can’t beat that stunning garden atmosphere! That’s a wrap on my visit to Katsura Grill, thanks for coming along! We’ll keep you in the loop with more dining reviews and news from around Disney World. Dining in Disney World isn’t cheap, and that’s why it’s important to budget for your meals before you head on your vacation. La Hacienda de San Angel However, there are cheaper meals than others — for example, you can choose to dine at a quick service location instead of booking a table service reservation, and you could choose to bring snacks with you/purchase them when you arrive (or get them delivered to your hotel room) to help cut down on costs. There’s one tip though that we’ve given a few times, and it really is a GAME CHANGER when eating in Disney World while trying to save some money but eat sufficient meals at the same time. At the majority of quick service meals around Disney World, you’ll find items on the regular menu, but there’s an entire kids menu to look through as well. Often, you can find smaller portions of items on the main menu, in addition to some more “plain” options for picky eaters, such as chicken tenders, mac and cheese, and more. Kids’ Menu What’s so special about a kids menu, you ask? Well, the kicker here is that even if the menu says it’s only for certain ages, anyone can order off the kids menu! While sometimes these meals are too small for adults, we’ve often found that there are a lot of meals that are a great value and are plenty for many adults! Especially if you’re more focused on snacking around the park. Kids Meal at La Cantina de San Angel For example, we recently headed to Landscape of Flavors at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort and tried out their Chicken and Vegetables with Pasta kids meal for $7.59. This came with Chicken with Pasta and Marinara served with Green Beans and a choice of Small Lowfat Milk or Small DASANI® Bottled Water. Chicken and Vegetables with Pasta And you know what? It was under $8, which is almost unheard of anywhere, especially Disney World, and it was genuinely really filling! The protein from the chicken was a necessity for sure, but then the pasta was the mostly filling part. We also got a really generous helping of green beans as well, which was a great refreshing vegetable (surprisingly harder to find in Disney World than you may think). We were HUGE fans of this! And this is just one example of the many different types of kids meals you can find around Disney World property — both in the parks and at the hotels! Again, anyone can order off the kids menu at quick service locations, but this won’t be the case for table service restaurants. Landscape of Flavors Looking for more of our recent reviews? Hurricane Milton has made its way across Florida, and as a result, Disney World and Disney Springs has been closed since yesterday, October 9th, at 2PM and will remain closed until tomorrow, October 11th, when the parks will reopen. Orlando International Airport Orlando International Airport remained open, but it put a pause on any and all commercial flights, only staying open to allow emergency, medical, and relief flights into and out of the airport. However, the airport just made an important announcement on when it will reopen (which might be good news to some folks who ended up stranded in Orlando due to the hurricane). Orlando International Airport recently posted to social media that it will receive a few domestic flights this evening, although no departures or international flights will happen there. It has requested that passengers not come to the airport for flights scheduled to depart for tonight. However, the airport announced that departures will resume tomorrow, October 11th. Keep in mind that because of the airports being closed and so many flights being canceled, you’ll want to make sure any flight you have scheduled is departing on time tomorrow. Keep an eye on your airline’s website, as well as the airline’s mobile app. Make sure you have notifications turned on your phone and set up text or phone messages from the airline for flight status changes, if available. Airlines flying in and out of Florida are going to be a little backed up, so you’ll also want to pack your patience for your next flight. Spirit Airlines at Orlando Airport We’ll keep an eye out for more announcements, so stay tuned to DFB for more. The Disneyland version of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure just took its biggest step towards opening! Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Disneyland Tiana’s Bayou Adventure has been open at Magic Kingdom since June but Disneyland’s version of this latest attraction isn’t lagging that far behind. Scheduled to open to the masses on November 15th, 2024, we’ve been eagerly waiting to hear when Disney will begin special early previews. Well, our questions have finally been answered and we finally know when Magic Key Previews for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Disneyland will take place! Per the Disneyland app, Magic Key holders can experience early previews of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure on select days between October 21st and November 12th! Ride testing is underway for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Disneyland! For basically a month before the ride officially opens, Disneyland Magic Key holders — otherwise known as annual passholders — will be given the opportunity to ride Tiana’s Bayou Adventure early as long as they follow a few guidelines. ©Disney Before we get into those specific guidelines, let’s clarify the dates and times. For October, the preview dates and times are as follows: October 21st from 3PM to 9PM October 22nd from 3PM to 9PM October 23rd from 3PM to 9PM October 25th from 3PM to 9PM October 26th from 9AM to 5PM October 27 from 9AM to 5PM October 29th from 3PM to 9PM ©Disney The November preview dates and times are as follows: November 1st from 9AM to 5PM November 3rd from 9AM to 7PM November 5th from 9AM to 7PM November 6th from 9AM to 7PM November 8th from 9AM to 10PM November 9th from 9AM to 10PM November 10th from 9AM to 10PM November 12th from 9AM to 5PM Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Disneyland Now, let’s get to the aforementioned guidelines. In order for Magic Key holders to ride the new attraction, they must have a Disneyland Park reservation on the day they wish to ride. They will then be given the opportunity to join a virtual queue in the Disneyland app beginning at 7AM. A second virtual queue will open at 12PM (noon) for Magic Key holders who have already entered Disneyland Park or Disney California Adventure. ©Disney To access the virtual queue, find the virtual queue section of the home screen and select “Join Virtual Queue”. From there, you’ll select the option to join the Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Magic Key Preview virtual queue, and then wait for a notification that your boarding group is called. Boarding queues will be able to check in at the standby queue entrance within a designated return window. ©Disney As previously mentioned, those who are unable to participate in the previews won’t have to wait long to ride Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. The ride officially opens in the rebranded Bayou Country land at Disneyland on November 15th, just three days after the last preview date. Per the official Disneyland website, riders will “embark on a thrilling water ride through the bayou with Princess Tiana, Mama Odie and gator pal Louis. It’s a musical journey full of twists, turns and festive fun that crescendos with a 50-foot drop—as well as a swingin’ soiree. Watch out… you may get wet!“ Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Magic Kingdom Of course, we’ve already experienced the Magic Kingdom version several times and anticipate the use of a virtual queue sticking around for a while in California, just as it has at Disney World. Imagine a children’s movie where shame — not joy — drives the protagonist. Imagine a story where complicated, adult feelings take hold and don’t let go. Sounds kinda depressing, right? Well, in the early stages of production for Disney Pixar’s Inside Out 2, those deep, dark emotions were a real possibility. Yes, really! Joy Recently, the director of Inside Out 2, Kelsey Mann, and producer Mark Nielsen took to Instagram to share some behind-the-scenes secrets about the movie. In fact, we learned about THREE (!!!) potential emotions that didn’t make the cut, and we NEED to talk about them. So, what do you think? Would you have liked to see these emotions make the final cut? There’s something delightfully evil about Schadenfreude that we can’t stop thinking about. Anyone else? At 92 years old, Henry Ameen, affectionately referred to as Hank, strolls the sidewalks of Main Street, U.S.A., with the same enthusiasm he had back when he started as a Jungle Cruise skipper in 1958. His love for Disney traces back to 1955, when Hank and his wife visited Disneyland on their honeymoon—just one month after it opened. Hank took eight-millimeter film of the park on his new Kodak Brownie camera and still has the footage to this day. Just three years later, Hank began his Disney journey as an official cast member after serving many years in the United States Air Force. Hank was hired as a Jungle Cruise skipper and landed the role because of his previous experience as a bartender. The hiring manager figured he could tell a joke, and he was right. Hank quickly mastered the art of making guests laugh. “I picked it up, and then lo and behold, people were clapping, and they liked my spiel,” says Hank while chuckling. “I felt pretty good about that.” Hank remembers his start as a Jungle Cruise skipper. After a few summer seasons, Hank was ready for a new challenge. As an active individual with a passion for caring for others, he joined the Garden Grove Fire Department and began what would be a fulfilling 35-year career as a city fireman. However, Hank missed Disneyland. So much so that on his days off he began working as a Disneyland Resort firefighter, monitoring pyrotechnic safety for the evening firework spectaculars. He relished being back in his new role. “I have a passion for what I do because I feel like we are protecting the magic,” says Hank. Bob Iger CEO of The Walt Disney Company, Josh D’Amaro Chairman of Disney Experiences, Ken Potrock President of Disneyland Resort surprise Hank at Disneyland on October 8, his official 62nd service anniversary. Decades later Hank is still protecting that for cast and guests alike. As of October 8, 2024, he celebrates his 62nd service anniversary and holds the legendary status as the current longest standing employee of The Walt Disney Company. With over half a century of incredible experiences, he has made remarkable memories—one of which includes having lunch with Walt Disney himself. “He started walking towards my table, but I never thought that he would sit with me,” shares Hank. “He pulled up a chair and he asked me questions like, ‘How do you like working here? How do you like the food? What can I do?’ It was maybe a 10-minute conversation. That was a wonderful memory.” Hank’s career as a firefighter is filled with rich history and lifelong friendships. When cast members think of Hank, they think of a man who relishes every opportunity that life offers. He certainly has, from hosting Olympians at Disneyland in 1964, to watching iconic attractions like Pirates of the Caribbean be built right before his eyes, to enjoying cast picnics with Walt Disney and his family, to winning the bronze, silver and gold medal in the Disneyland 10k Marathons, he has embraced life wholeheartedly. Hank’s beautiful memories of California, his family and moments at Disneyland With all the once-in-lifetime experiences, Hank maintains his favorite memories center around the community he has built as a cast member, especially among his fellow Disneyland Resort firefighters. “I have great pride in the people I work with. I learn from them and hopefully they learn from me,” says Hank with a humbleness in his voice. The admiration Hank feels for his fellow cast members is mutual. Last August, the Disneyland Resort firefighters de-throned the decades-long reign of the Davy Crockett team, winning the fastest time in the cast member Canoe Races. For years, the firefighters vowed they would win one for Hank, which they finally did. The team honored Hank by having him join their triumphant victory lap while the cast cheered uproariously. Hank and his fellow Disneyland Resort firefighters celebrate their 2024 Disneyland Resort Canoe Races victory. How has Hank remained so vibrant? He moves. When he is not swimming or at the gym you will find him walking around the resort in the early morning hours before the parks open. That combined with his endless optimism about life. “You have to have a good outlook on life. Make the best of it. Live in the moment,” he says. When asked about the potential of retirement, Hank pauses for a moment, and with a twinkle in his eye says, “As long as I can smile and laugh, I’m going to be here.” Hank has led a remarkable life, one dedicated to serving others, making the community safer and protecting the magic at Disneyland Resort for 62 years. But those who know Hank or have had the good fortune to meet him, know that he is the magic. Hank enjoying the beauty of Sleeping Beauty Castle before sunrise. Hear ye, hear ye – it’s time for a celebration! No, it’s not Coronation Day – it’s the return of Frozen Fan Fest! This month, we’re celebrating all things Frozen, and I can hardly wait. We are headed back to the magical world of Frozen as we get ready to embark on new icy adventures alongside Anna, Elsa, Olaf and their friends with new Frozen content and products launching this month. To kick off the celebration, we have a flurry of products inspired by brand-new storytelling! Disney Off the Page Adventures: Arendelle Ice Calamity is a new Frozen story that comes to life in a storybook stylization, launching on the Disney Princess YouTube channel today, and reuniting us with Anna, Elsa, Olaf, and Kristoff in an icy adventure. In this all-new Frozen story, it’s the day of Arendelle’s first big Winter Festival, and Anna and Elsa have high hopes for the inaugural event. But when an outright calamity threatens to ruin the day, Anna and Elsa must band together with Kristoff, Olaf and Sven to save the festivities. Thrown way out of their comfort zones, they use the power of family, friendship, and fearlessness to pull off the impossible. Disney Frozen: Winter Festival is a new stop-motion creation that will also debut on the Disney Princess YouTube channel. Episode One will be available beginning October 7, with additional episodes dropping weekly on YouTube throughout the month. In this 4-episode series, Anna and Elsa are excited to host the inaugural Winter Festival in Arendelle celebrating the beginning of winter and all the fun festivities the season brings! The sisters and their friends spread out to prepare for the festival, drumming up excitement around town, setting up for the sporting events, and sharing warm treats. Will Elsa make it back in time? Audible and Disney Publishing have released Disney Frozen: Olaf’s Quest, a new Audible Original featuring Disney character voices and immersive sound design. Even though it’s not an official attraction, the Skyliner is one of my favorite Disney rides … and you don’t even need a park ticket to try it! Known for its colorful cabins featuring favorite characters and relaxing vibes, this unique gondola system travels to four Resort hotels perfect for nearly every family size and budget. My recommendation? Spend a day of your vacation traveling between the Resort hotels and check out some of the free activities at each location. You could kick off the day with a relaxing game of bocce ball at Disney’s Riviera Resort, fly over to Disney’s Art of Animation Resort to move and groove at a Lion King-themed family fitness class, and end the night with a movie under the stars on the lawn of Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort. Fun for the whole family! 2. Ride Disney Skyliner during fireworks. The Disney Skyliner makes park hopping between Disney’s Hollywood Studios and EPCOT fun and easy. If you’re traveling between the parks at night and time your trip just right, you can also catch an incredible bird’s-eye view of some of our nighttime spectaculars. Trust me on this one. Luminous The Symphony of Us hits different when you’re watching it from the sky. 3. Take ALL the family photos. #DisneySkylinerHair. Ever heard of it? You will once you take flight, and you’ll want your camera ready to capture the moment when the wind blows through your hair. In addition to in-flight photos, you can also take family photos at iconic locations across Walt Disney World at every station stop. Here are some of our favorites: Have a little one? We recommend taking a pic in front of their favorite, larger-than-life character at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort. What’s better? Traveling aboard Disney Skyliner with small kids is a breeze since you don’t have to fold up your single-sized stroller! With the Halloween season in full swing, take Disney Skyliner right to Disney’s Hollywood Studios for a frightfully fun family photo in front of The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror! If you’re looking for an elegant backdrop to take your holiday family photos, the view of Crescent Lake from the sands of Disney’s Beach Club Resort is just what you need. 4. Create your own Disney Skyliner food crawl. The restaurants at Disney Skyliner Resort hotels are top tier. From breakfast with your favorite Disney pals at Topolino’s Terrace, to dinner under the sea at Sebastian’s Bistro, you really can’t go wrong. Start the day on an empty stomach, enjoy a tasty treat at each Disney Skyliner stop and return back to your Resort hotel full of some of the best Disney Eats across Disney World. 5. Chat with our cast! Need more recommendations? Our Disney Skyliner cast are ready to help. While we don’t talk about Bruno, if he’s your favorite Disney character, they can try to make some magic and help you ride in an Encanto-themed cabin. The list could go on and on. With so many ways to enjoy Disney Skyliner, you can see why millions of guests have climbed aboard to take flight and travel in style. It’s one of the most popular experiences at Walt Disney World! Happy 5th anniversary, Disney Skyliner. We can’t wait to celebrate many more years in flight! The post My Favorite Free (and Easy!) Transportation at Disney World appeared first on Disney Parks Blog. Six Magical Family Experiences at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure With so many exciting things happening at Disneyland Resort, there is lots of fun to consider when thinking of what to include on your list of must-dos for your visit. Here are six of our favorite activities for family trips at Disneyland Resort, whether you’re celebrating your child’s first visit or bringing the grandparents along for the vacation of a lifetime! 1. Get your camera ready to capture some heartwarming encounters with characters in both Disneyland park and Disney California Adventure park. Kids and kids at heart can savor in hugs from friends like Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, practice royal greetings with their favorite Disney Princess at Fantasy Faire, strike a heroic pose with Super Heroes in Avengers Campus or even mosey through Radiator Springs with Lightning McQueen in Cars Land. 2. Play your own way in Mickey’s Toontown in Disneyland park! In this animated neighborhood, the whole family can explore interactive play spaces, relax in open grassy spaces and board the family-friendly attraction Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway for a zany adventure through the cartoon world of Mickey Mouse. 3. Celebrate your little one’s first-ever “big kid ride” on a new attraction! Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opens in Disneyland park on Nov. 15, 2024, and this adventure through the bayou will be the perfect chance for kids 40 inches and taller to brave a thrilling ride. 4. If the young ones in your group love to sing and dance, you won’t want to miss live entertainment across the resort. Listen to charming tales in an open-air tent during Storytelling at the Royal Theatre in Fantasyland and get ready to wiggle and shimmy alongside Disney Jr. characters like Vampirina and Doc McStuffins during the “Disney Jr. Dance Party!” in Hollywood Land. 5. For exciting attractions, themed eats and encounters with characters, head to Pixar Pier in Disney California Adventure park. Younger kiddos can take a spin on the Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind while the older kids hop aboard the Incredicoaster, and the whole family will love food, drinks and sweets inspired by beloved Pixar stories. 6. There are tasty bites and memorable dining experiences throughout the resort, but if there’s one thing the whole family can agree on, it’s taking a break to snack on classic Disney treats like churros, popcorn and Mickey Mouse ice cream bars. There are also plenty of healthy options like fruit, snack mixes and yogurt to help keep the group’s energy up during a day full of fun.
