Ken Page, a Broadway star and actor who voiced Oogie Boogie, has passed away. Oogie Boogie The St. Louis native had a prolific career that included numerous Broadway shows, films, and TV shows. Ken Page passed away at age 70 on Monday, September 29th. Ken Page is best known by Disney fans for voicing Oogie Boogie in The Nightmare Before Christmas and spin-offs, including the Kingdom Hearts games. You can also hear his iconic voice throughout the Disney Parks, including during the Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. ©IMDb In addition to voicing Oogie Boogie, he was also a prolific Broadway star who starred in stage productions, including “The Wiz,” “Cats,” “Ain’t Misbehavin’,” “Little Shop of Horrors,” Les Misérables,” and more. But his credits don’t end there, as he has also worked on various films and TV shows such as All Dogs Go to Heaven and Charmed. Oogie Boogie According to Fox 2, Ken Page was born and raised in St. Louis. He attended Bishop Dubourg High School and later attended Fontbonne College, where he majored in theater on a full scholarship. Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar A nightmare-ish treat is making its way to this unique lounge at the Disneyland Hotel, and you need to see it! Starting October 1st, you will be able to grab a Nightmare Grog from Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar at the Disneyland Hotel. This treat is made with DOLE Whip Mango and Pineapple with a hint of Gorilla Grog, served in a The Nightmare Before Christmas souvenir cup. There is SO much to love about this treat and we are already making space on our shelves to hold this new souvenir cup. ©Disney The souvenir cup features Jack Skellington and his dog, Zero. On the other side you will find the Trader Sam’s logo and the cup is decorated with skeleton reindeer and snowflakes. Not only is the cup amazing looking, but look at the COLOR of that DOLE Whip! ©Disney While black isn’t usually a color of food that looks appetizing, we think the color works perfect with this treat. The dark gray DOLE Whip is highlighted with green stripes and looks just the right amount of spooky inside the souvenir cup. We have a feeling this treat is going to be popular! We know this treat will be available beginning October 1st, but Disney hasn’t announced how long it will be sticking around for. Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter has been getting some updates recently, and we are excited to take you along to see some of the changes! Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter This New Orleans inspired resort is full of Mardi Gras spirit year-round, and we are taking you all along with us as we stay in a newly renovated room! Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter has been getting some upgrades to its rooms recently. Construction began in May 2024 and is expected to conclude in November 2024. Buildings 1 and 2 are now officially refurbished and we are fortunate to be able to get to stay in one of these BRAND-NEW rooms! Port Orleans — French Quarter Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter is a moderate resort hotel that is inspired by New Orleans’s historic French Quater. The hotel is loaded with Mardi Gras spirit all year long and features a Mardi Gras-themed pool, jazz club, and even horse-drawn carriage rides! You can also stroll along the Sassagoula River to its sister resort, Port Orleans Resort — Riverside or enjoy a boat ride to Disney Springs. Doubloon Lagoon at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter The resort has been working on upgrading some of its rooms for the past few months, and we are excited to be able to give you a first look at the new rooms. So far, just Buildings 1 and 2 have completed their refurb, with Building 2 just opening to guests yesterday, September 29th. So, let’s take a look inside these new rooms! Disney’s Port Orleans — French Quarter Resort Our room had two beds in it, and we love the gorgeous detailing above the beds and on the bathroom door. The beds are made with white sheets and a pop of orange from the throw pillows. We even got our very own Mickey towel to welcome us into the room! New rooms at Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter The beds have a gorgeous pattern above them, and we love the calming green color. The pattern features instruments such as drums and a trumpet. The throw pillow adds the perfect pop of color. On either side of the bed, there is also a personal light. We love the colors and patterns! Here is a closer look at the light! We love this added feature so you can have a light if you want to read or something else before bed without needing to have on a room light. Personal Light on the bed On the other side of the room, there is a small seating area and a dresser. Above the dresser is the TV. There were two pieces of gorgeous artwork featuring Princess Tiana, Prince Naveen, and Louis. Seating area and TV at Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter We loved the artwork scattered throughout the room, including this beautiful art featuring Charlotte La Bouff dancing to a band. Artwork We loved seeing a new plug on the dresser as well. This plug has two normal outlets, as well as a HDMI port, USB-C, and USB plug. There are lots of things to charge nowadays, so it was nice to see a large plug on the dresser. New plugs The room also comes with “Hey Disney!” which is a voice assistant experience that has been created specifically for guests of Disney World hotels. “Hey Disney!” can help with all sorts of things including ordering you more towels, telling jokes, and waking you up with a message from Mickey Mouse and pals. Hey Disney! At the far end of the dresser, you will find a drink station where you can make your tea and coffee. This is also where the ice bucket is stored. The drink area is decorated with a fun background of brick and wrought iron, with Mardi Gras beads draped over. Coffee Area You will also find a mini fridge below the drink station which can be stocked with your favorite drinks and snacks. Mini Fridge These rooms also have an updated thermostat that is easy to read and adjust so you can select the perfect temperature. Updated thermostat Now let’s take a look inside the bathroom! We were excited to see lots of storage space in the bathroom and double sinks. We also loved the tiling details in the bathroom! Bathroom There is a door that can be closed that separates the shower and toilet area from the sink area of the bathroom. The shower is a walk-in shower. Shower You will also find shampoo, conditioner, and body wash available inside the shower. Shampoo, Conditioner, and Body Wash The toilet is located right next to the shower. It is a little tight in this area, but there is still plenty of space to move around! Toilet The main bathroom area has a wonderful mirror that can be moved around to help you get ready. Movable mirror There is more storage available next to the sink area too! More storage! So far, we are really liking the newly refurbished room at Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter. While only two buildings are completed so far, we are hoping to see even more rooms get renovated. Something dark and foreboding is coming to Magic Kingdom in Disney World, and we must give you fair warning… The Evil Queen Those dastardly Disney Villains are moving in! In August 2024, Disney officially announced that Magic Kingdom is expanding the theme park with a brand new Villains Land! In order for you to be fully prepared for this wicked new addition, we’re chatting about exactly where their new lair — I mean, Land — is going to be located in Disney World’s original theme park. But first, we’re going back in time… AAAALLLL the way back to September 2022. It was then that Disney shared some ideas behind a “blue sky” project — “Beyond Big Thunder Mountain” — that would potentially bring a NEW land (or possibly lands) to Magic Kingdom. Then, in April of 2024, Disney shared that the first steps had been taken to begin this massive expansion. Finally, in August 2024, Disney confirmed that a previously-hinted-about Villains Land is indeed becoming a reality! Villains Land Concept Art ©Disney That’s right! Apparently someone has decided that “it’s time Ursula took matters into her own tentacles” and set up shop in Magic Kingdom! Ursula at Oogie Boogie Bash in Disney California Adventure (and on her way to a Disney World park, too, it appears!) According to Disney, “guests will be able to venture Beyond Big Thunder Mountain into an all-new land dedicated to Disney Villains” and also stated that “Walt Disney Imagineering is pushing creative boundaries to dark and mysterious levels to bring this new, first-of-its-kind land to life.” Big Thunder Mountain Railroad There is some land, you see, literally past Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Magic Kingdom’s Frontierland that has been deemed suitable for new construction. Disney has shared that TWO major attractions, along with new dining and shopping experiences will be presented “on an incredibly twisted grand scale.” ©Disney When we zoom into the concept art (as seen above), we believe one of the things we are seeing are tracks for a potential roller coaster in the land. This massive new Villains-themed land, together with the also-announced Cars expansion coming to Magic Kingdom’s Frontierland, will make up the largest expansion in the history of Disney World’s original theme park. Summer House on the Lake is one of the newest restaurants in Disney Springs, and it has some special happenings in October! Summer House on the Lake This restaurant boasts an amazing view with California-inspired bites, and a COOKIE BAR! During October the restaurant has a few special offerings, and we wanted you to know about them. Summer House on the Lake opened in Disney Springs in December 2023. It is located on the West Side of Disney Springs, right across from Salt & Straw. The restaurant serves California-style cuisine as you enjoy a gorgeous view of the Sassagoula River. You can also enjoy a Cali-Mex Brunch on the weekends and stop by The Cookie Bar! Look at that view! First, Summer House on the Lake is introducing some spooky treats just in time for Halloween! It’s time to celebrate! As Disneyland Resort heads into the eighth year of its community workforce development initiative, we are excited to announce over $1 million in grants going to local nonprofits and school districts. Designed to develop and prepare the workforce in Anaheim and beyond, the community workforce development initiative empowers jobseekers and students through programming with school districts and nonprofits. In addition to financial support, Disney VoluntEARS develop meaningful relationships with the organizations, lending their time and talents toward mentorship, training workshops, skills development and more. Disney VoluntEARS from Disneyland Resort join their mentees from the Anaheim Union High School District for an end-of-year celebration as part of the Girls Inc. of Orange County’s “Girls Meet the Workforce” program. Since 2017, the Disneyland Resort community workforce development initiative has impacted more than 10,000 lives and provided more than $7.5 million in support for organizations to grow their workforce programming and develop new programs. Get to Know the 2024 Grant Recipients With programs like Anaheim’s Innovating Mentoring Experience (AIME) providing one-on-one mentoring for high school students to career skills development workshops with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County and the Inland Empire and more, each of these organizations provides valuable resources for jobseekers and serves a diverse set of community needs. As the organization looks to expand workforce programming through its Hospitality Program, this support will give Anaheim high school students more opportunities to explore future careers in the hospitality and service industries. This isn’t the first time Disneyland Resort and Caterina’s Club have teamed up: earlier this year, the resort named Caterina’s Club the celebrated charity of the 2024 Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend. Disney VoluntEARS from Disneyland Resort drop off 400 care kits to Love Anaheim as part of the Anaheim Inclement Weather Shelter Network program in March 2024. Love Anaheim Launched in 2016 with a heartfelt mission of “spreading goodness and demonstrating kindness,” Love Anaheim provides a valuable resource connecting service project opportunities with available volunteers to further important causes in the City of Anaheim. With this funding, the organization will bolster its Better Way Anaheim program, which provides skills training and services to community members experiencing homelessness, with the end goal of securing employment. In celebration of the 40th anniversary of Disney VoluntEARS, Disneyland Resort collaborated with Love Anaheim to pack care kits for the Anaheim Inclement Weather Shelter Network and on a series of park beautification projects in Anaheim. “Following the approval of DisneylandForward, our expanding investment in the Anaheim community and dedication to workforce development remains a top priority for us. It’s time for the announcement Disney Cruise Line aficionados have all been waiting for! Today, I’m excited to reveal three new merchandise collections that will debut exclusively onboard the Disney Treasure during its 2024 inaugural season. If you were waiting for a sign to book your voyage onboard Disney Cruise Line’s new ship, this is it! Last week, content creators Melizza Black and Michelle Nhu became the first to try on pieces from the new collections, both styling unique cruise looks by mixing and matching pieces from their own closets. And with the maiden voyage just a few months away, now is the time to grab inspiration for your vacation wardrobe! Adventures Ahoy Collection The Adventures Ahoy Collection includes a range of playful apparel pieces for everyone in the family, themed accessories and homeware items. The designs showcase bespoke artwork of Captain Mickey Mouse, Captain Minnie Mouse and their daring pals, all donning their voyage-ready ensembles. In case you didn’t know, you’ve really got a ton of options when it comes to dining at Disney World! Aunt Polly’s To be sure you’ve got your standard theme park fare, but you can also find a wide variety of food — from All-American classics to tastes from the Caribbean and Asia and even more. Now, if you’re in Magic Kingdom, there’s this one spot you might not even know existed and it’s about it shut down permanently, so you know we’ve got to tell you all about it! As we were saying, there’s this one restaurant at Magic Kingdom that’s going to be permanently closing in 2025. We’re talking about Aunt Polly’s, and we’ve gotta have a chat about it (since no one else is)! The Magic Kingdom Restaurant You Probably Didn’t Even Know Existed Let’s be real. If you didn’t know Aunt Polly’s existed, you’re not alone. This adorable dockside restaurant is tucked away on Tom Sawyer Island, which is only accessible by raft by the way. Also, it’s been notoriously seasonal, and by seasonal we mean “rarely ever open.” Tom Sawyer Island Tom Sawyer Island itself is typically open from 10AM to 4:30PM, but Aunt Polly’s? That window gets even smaller! It was open on only the busiest of Disney World days, and usually only from 11AM to 3PM. In fact, it has been 2+ years since we’ve seen it open at all. So, if you managed to snag a snack here, consider yourself lucky! Aunt Polly’s That being said, this little quick-service spot holds a special place in our hearts. And if you’ve tasted the food, you’ll understand why this is such a loss. Wait.What’s Happening to Tom Sawyer Island? So in case you didn’t know, all of Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America are being taken out to make room for the brand-new Cars area in Frontierland. ©Disney Starting in 2025, Disney will be transforming this area into a new and unique land themed around the Cars franchise. While we’re excited about new land and all that’s coming there, we can’t help but feel a little heartbroken to say goodbye to such an overlooked gem. Why We’re Going to Miss Aunt Polly’s We’re definitely going to miss the food. Even though Aunt Polly’s might be small and seasonal, it served up some seriously delicious eats. Becky’s Buttery Biscuit Barbecued Pork Sliders: We can’t get over how hearty these sliders were. Instead of typical slider rolls, they used these thick, buttery biscuits that were perfect for soaking up all the saucy goodness of the shredded BBQ pork. It’s like the comfort food you didn’t know you needed, and now, we’re already craving it. Aunt Polly’s Menu Aunt Polly’s Root Beer Float: What an absolute classic. This float was made with Barq’s Root Beer and creamy vanilla ice cream, and was the perfect refreshing treat to enjoy while you watch the Liberty Belle gently float by on the Rivers of America. It’s simple, nostalgic, and oh-so-delicious. Root Beer Float at Aunt Polly’s Why No One’s Talking About It (But Should Be!) Again, because Aunt Polly’s was open so rarely and required a raft ride to get to, it just wasn’t on most people’s radar, and that’s exactly why this closure feels so bittersweet. While some folks never even had the chance to try it, those of us who did know what an underrated gem it was. Aunt Polly’s So here’s a heads up: if you’re visiting Disney World by or before 2025, make it a point to get over to Tom Sawyer Island. Maybe you’ll get super lucky and find Aunt Polly’s open! If you’ve been to Disney World, you know that sometimes, the unexpected just happens. Check out that flooding! By unexpected, we’re talking about the things that aren’t the most “magical” that happen when you’re least prepared for them. Now, if you’re getting ready for your first trip ever to Disney World, there’s this one mistake that so many people make that would help tremendously in one specific unexpected scenario. We don’t want that to be you, so let’s talk about it. As we were saying, so many people make the mistake of thinking that Florida won’t rain on them during their Disney World trip and they end up not bringing a poncho with them. So what inevitably happens is that during the afternoon, the sky opens up and starts dumping gallons of rain and these same folks make mad dashes for the nearest shop desperate for shelter and a poncho. What they’re greeted with is a less-than-sturdy poncho and a hefty price tag. Rainy Day Like we’re saying, we don’t want you to make the same poncho mistake (not bringing your own poncho and then paying theme park prices when you don’t have to). That being said, if you didn’t bring your own, I get it. It can feel like you’re lugging around a poncho “just in case” when you’re trying to stay cute and comfy in the parks. Rainy day in Magic Kingdom But if you’re already at Disney World, and rain is in the forecast, there’s a quick hack that could save you a bunch of money, and it’s hiding right in plain sight. We’re talking about heading over to the Walt Disney World Swan Hotel! Swan Hotel The $3 Poncho You Didn’t Know Existed Here’s the secret: at Java in the Swan Hotel (yes, those fancy-looking resorts just outside EPCOT and Hollywood Studios), you can snag a poncho for just three (3) bucks! Yup, you read that right $3! It comes folded up in this little plastic sleeve. Rain Poncho In some cases that’s like 75% cheaper than the ones you might find in the gift shops at the parks. Rain Poncho The catch? Well, you’ve got to make your way over to the Swan to grab one. Java at the Swan Hotel But don’t worry, even if you’re not staying at the Swan and Dolphin, this trip is totally doable. Plus, a visit to these hotels isn’t exactly a bad time. The architecture is gorgeous. Swan Resort Also, it’s just a short hop from EPCOT or Hollywood Studios, which makes for a chill little side trip during your day. It’s Going to be a Rainy Day Life-Saver Honestly, it rains a lot at Disney World, and if you’re not prepared, you’ll end up dropping unnecessary dollars on an overpriced poncho just to avoid getting soaked (or worse, drenched and then freezing in that A/C). That’s something we don’t won’t to happen to you. Rain at Magic Kingdom Sure, you can grab a poncho from your local dollar store or Amazon before your trip, but let’s face it, most of us forget to do that. So, when that inevitable downpour hits, remember this tip and don’t be afraid to hop over to the Swan Hotel. Still, we definitely think it’s a must-grab if you’re trying to do all the rides you can in Magic Kingdom or Disney’s Hollywood Studios without waiting too long. Today, September 29th, you can purchase Lightning Lane Multi Pass for one of the lowest prices we’ve seen since the service debuted in July. If you’re still a little confused about what Lightning Lane Multi Pass is, don’t worry; we’ve got you covered. Lightning Lane Multi Pass is an optional paid service available through the My Disney Experience app, which allows you to bypass standby lines and enter the Lightning Lane at select attractions in the parks by paying a base price for multiple attractions. The price varies depending on the day and which park you are making your initial selections for. However, if you have park hopping as part of your ticket, you’ll pay the price for the park you start in and then can use it in any park you hop to at no additional cost. ©Disney With Lightning Lane Multi Pass, you can make up to 3 Lightning Lane Multi Pass selections in a park in advance of your visit OR 7 days in advance if you’re staying at a Disney World hotel.
