Sometimes, Starbucks just hits, especially when you’re in Disney World and it’s rope drop or the middle of the day when you’ve lost your last bit of energy. Disney Springs Yeah, we’ll usually warn you about long lines at Starbucks, especially in the morning, but at the same time, we’ll often be standing in those lines (although we do go to Joffrey’s when they’re TOO long). Well, if you’re headed to Disney Springs, your Starbucks options just opened up again: a closed Starbucks there has just reopened! OH, HAPPY DAY! So the Starbucks kiosk in the Disney Springs Marketplace closed a little while ago for refurbishment (as things often do in Disney World). Granted, there are TWO Starbucks in Disney Springs, but when this one was closed, it meant we had to traipse over to the other one if we were in the Marketplace area and needed our caffeine! Well, luckily the Marketplace Starbucks has officially reopened. It’s open! We didn’t see any obvious signs of change to the kiosk itself, so the refurbishment was probably done on the inside, which isn’t something customers generally see. However, this spot is serving up all your favorite Starbucks drinks, including the seasonal ones (yay, PSL!). Time to get caffeinated If you find yourself in Disney Springs, keep in mind that this location has reopened if you’re craving Starbucks. You’ll also find occasional special drinks here you won’t get anywhere else, themed to movies, events, and more. We even had a Robert Downey Jr.-inspired drink here once! Top of Robert Brownie Jr. at Starbucks at Disney Springs Marketplace You’ll also find a Starbucks location on the West Side of Disney Springs if you’re over in that area when the craving hits you. The Walt Disney Company is once again laying off employees to more effectively manage “resources and costs.” ©Disney | Walt Disney Company Headquarters A new wave of layoffs has affected about 300 employees at Disney. According to Deadline, a new wave of layoffs began at Disney on September 24th, 2024. The layoffs are expected to affect about 300 employees with the possibility of more. The positions that were laid off are all based in the United States and were a part of Disney’s corporate operations. Departments including legal, HR, finance, and communications were among the departments affected by layoffs. ©Disney In a statement to Deadline, a Disney spokesperson stated, “We continually evaluate ways to invest in our businesses and more effectively manage our resources and costs to fuel the state-of-the-art creativity and innovation that consumers value and expect from Disney. As part of this ongoing optimization work, we have been reviewing the cost structure for our corporate-level functions and have determined there are ways for them to operate more efficiently.” ©Disney Deadline reported that Parks, ESPN, and Disney Entertainment were not affected by layoffs during this round. Unfortunately, the Walt Disney Company is no stranger to layoffs as the company has aimed to reduce spending by cutting jobs. The company has been in cost-cutting mode which has resulted in the layoffs of thousands of employees. The Walt Disney Company Disney was hit hard by the global pandemic, suffering an adverse impact of about $7.4 billion dollars. Following the pandemic, Disney laid off 32,000 employees in 2020. However, that layoffs have continued and in 2023 there were three rounds of layoffs. During these layoffs, the first two rounds focused heavily on the entertainment division of the company, both in the parks and on the media side of things. While the third round of layoffs seemed to affect no particular division of the company. The Walt Disney Company headquarters in California As well, in 2024, massive layoffs affected Pixar when 14% of the workforce was laid off. As well, layoffs happened in departments across the television division including local stations, the Freeform cable network, and general marketing and publicity departments. National Geographic also saw a large layoff with 13% of its staff being let go. ©Disney Our thoughts are with all of the employees, families, and colleagues who have been affected by the layoffs. How ready are you to get aboard the Disney Treasure?! ©Disney We absolutely can’t wait for this brand-new ship coming in the Disney Cruise Line fleet, especially having heard that it’s headed towards open water for the very first time! Now, that’s got us pumped and ready to go to experience everything and taste all they got for us. Speaking of eats, we wanted to have a quick chat about one particular dining spot on the ship and how there are some tables there that will be quite a challenge to grab for your meals. Let’s talk about it! As we were saying, when you’re thinking about dining at the Marceline Market, not all tables are created equal, and some will be way harder to snag than others. So let’s dive right in so you can plan out your strategy and live your best cruise life! Tables by the Windows Hands down, the tables by the windows are the most sought-after spots in Marceline Market. Imagine that you’re sitting down to enjoy a delicious breakfast or lunch while gazing out at the endless blue ocean. Sounds like pure bliss, right? Marceline Market on Disney Wish These tables give you the best views of the sea. Let’s just say that those window-side tables are going to take your cruise experience up a notch. I mean, there’s just something extra magical about dining with a front-row seat to the ocean. You might even find that scoring one of these tables will make every bite taste just a little better. Marceline Market breakfast on Disney Wish Just keep in mind that everyone has the same idea, so expect these tables fill up fast. So if you’re eyeing a window-side seat, plan to arrive early, or be ready to swoop in like a ninja the second one opens up. Tables Near the Drink Refill Stations Okay, parents, this one’s for you. You know that moment when your little one spills their drink or suddenly decides they’re dying of thirst just as you’ve sat down with your plate of food? (Yep, it’s a thing.) And that’s exactly why the tables nearest to the drink refill stations are going to be another hot commodity. Marceline Market Self-serve beverage station on Disney Wish So, here’s the deal. At Marceline Market, they’ve strategically placed drink stations throughout the dining area for easy access. That means sitting close to one of these stations will give you fewer trips back and forth when your kid inevitably needs a refill of their favorite juice or water. Marceline Market on Disney Wish Trust me, these tables will save you so much hassle, but just remember that every parent on board is also going to want one for the same reason. Be Strategic and Be Early In short, the tables with the best ocean views and the ones conveniently located nearest to the drink refill stations are going to be the hardest to get at Marceline Market and they will go fast. Plan to try to show up early or keep an eye out for when diners start wrapping up. Timing is everything! A hurricane is heading for Florida, and we’re bringing all the updates from Disney World. ©NHC So far, we’ve seen Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party get canceled, and Disney has closed its water parks and miniature golf courses. But outside of those changes, the theme parks are still operating as usual! We’re in the parks today to report on the weather and the storm prep, so let’s see what it’s like to go to Disney World before a hurricane. STORM UPDATES A Step-by-Step Guide to Hurricane Cancelation Policies and Refunds in Disney World How to Handle the Worst-Case Scenario During Hurricane Season at Disney World The BEST Hurricane-Ready Hotels in Disney World 6 Items You Need For a Hurricane in Disney World Join the DFB Newsletter to Get All the Latest Disney News Delivered Right to Your Inbox! Click Here to Subscribe We started out on the morning of Thursday, September 26th at Magic Kingdom. It was cloudy when we arrived, but it didn’t start raining heavily until later in the morning. Main Street, U.S.A. in the morning The crowds in the parks were quite low, as many people likely avoided heading to Magic Kingdom on a day when it’s scheduled to rain and storm. Wait times were also fairly low, with most of the attractions staying below an hour for the whole day. The clouds are rolling in. You could even grab Starbucks without waiting too long — that’s practically an anomaly! It’s so empty in here. Later in the morning, a band of rain came through and things got REAL wet for a bit there. The walkways cleared out quickly and some lower areas of the park experienced flooding. Today’s a good day to have those ponchos and shoe covers on hand. Good GRIEF The crowds definitely dispersed during that little while when it was storming. Check out this view from the castle hub! Check out that flooding! But not too long after that, things calmed down a bit. It stayed cloudy, but the storm stopped for long enough that outdoor rides were able to reopen. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in a poncho, anyone? Big Thunder even opened! After Magic Kingdom, we headed over to Hollywood Studios for the afternoon. When we arrived, it was pretty cloudy, but some blue skies were visible. Park no. 2! The crowds here seemed to be a little bit heavier than Magic Kingdom. This may be due to the fact that it was originally scheduled to be a party day at Magic Kingdom before its park hours were changed to be open until 8PM. Crowds As far as storm prep goes, we’ve seen some umbrellas tied down and some loose items fastened in place. Wind and rain will likely continue throughout the day and into tonight. The storm is expected to make landfall tonight, and as it stands, the Disney World parks are expected to be open as usual tomorrow. We’ll update you if we notice any more changes! If there’s a specific type of food you’re looking for at Disney World, chances are they’ve already got you covered! Capt. Cook’s From All-American classics to tastes from the Caribbean and Asia, there really are a TON of places to dine around Disney World. And some of them are in spots you just wouldn’t expect! If you’re a fan of Polynesian food and you haven’t exactly found a restaurant to satisfy your craving in Magic Kingdom, there’s a spot you have to check out and it’s just outside of the park! Atmosphere Recently, we headed to Capt. Cook’s at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort for a bite, and we want to take you along with us! This restaurant is located on the first floor of the resort’s main building. Here’s a look at the entrance to the restaurant as you come towards it from the main entrance to the resort. Capt. Cook’s To the left as you enter, you’ll find the first seating area. Capt. Cook’s To the right of this seating area, here is where you place your orders. Order here Across from the there, you’ll find a wraparound counter that has everything you need when it comes to condiments, utensils, drinks, etc. You’ll find most of the basic condiments available like ketchup, mustard, BBQ sauce, and mayo. Sauces But it doesn’t stop there. Additional Condiments Here are the napkins and utensils: Utensils As the counter wraps around, you can find the straws and the fountain drinks. Fountain drinks All of your coffee options. Coffee Whole and Skim milk. Whole and Skim milk for your coffee and tea. You’ll find plenty of tea options as well. Drinks In the same area that you place your orders, you’ll also find grab-and-go options. Grab-and-go Here’s a look at the second indoor seating area: Seating Area There’s even outdoor seating should you want to enjoy your meal outdoors. The outdoor seating is nice, too, by the way! Now on to the food! Menu Let’s take a look at the menu for Capt. Cook’s! They’re typically open from 7:00AM to 12:00AM. They’re a quick service restaurant that has three (3) different menus depending on the time of day (Breakfast, Lunch/Dinner, and Late Night Dining), all three of which you can get full meals, so not just small plates. You can also Mobile Order food from this spot. Mobile Order can come in handy! Let’s start with their Breakfast Menu. You’ll find that you can get one of our favorite breakfast options, Tonga Toast, here, too. ©Disney They also have plant-based options as well as kids’ meals — and we recently found out they can do a plant-based version of Tonga Toast here on request! You can also order sides of their breakfast potatoes, sausage, and that oh-so-sweet Disney bacon. ©Disney Now, have a look at their Lunch/Diner menu. ©Disney You’ll find some of the Disney restaurant staples like cheeseburgers and a caesar salad, but they’ve also got great flatbreads. ©Disney They also have plant-based options as well as kids’ meals. ©Disney And if you’re hungry for another helping of their sides like mac and cheese, you can help yourself to another order of them. ©Disney Now, if you’re looking for a bite late, they’ve got flatbreads available until midnight. ©Disney Let’s have a look at what’s available all day. First up, here are the bakery options: ©Disney And if you just need a snack, here’s what you can pick up: ©Disney If you’re looking for a beverage, here’s what they’ve got: ©Disney Need a coffee fix? Here are the specialty options they have at Capt. Cook’s: ©Disney If you’d like something alcoholic, be it beer or wine, here’s what they have on the menu: ©Disney Lastly, you can pick up a Rapid Fill Refillable Mug here anytime when they’re open. ©Disney Now that we’ve got the full picture of what’s on the menu, let’s dive into what we ordered! Eats Starting out, we got the Pulled Pork Nachos for $10.99. They’re topped with Cheese, Spicy Mayonnaise, Pico de Gallo, and Pineapple Salsa. Pulled Pork Nachos We really like these nachos. About the “chips” for these nachos, they are a combination of fried wantons and house-made chips. They’re so crispy. The sweet BBQ and sweet pineapple on top are on point and a great juxtaposition to the crispy and savory chips. Pulled Pork Nachos The spicy mayo, however, isn’t very spicy. It’s much more creamy than spicy. Also, the pico de gallo isn’t the most flavorful, but it does add a nice crunch texture to the top. If you’re looking for a “level-up” on your typical chicken strips or cheeseburger, we highly recommend these nachos. Next, we got the Spicy Korean Chicken Bowl for $12.99. It has Crisp Chicken Strips with Gochujang Sauce, Steamed Rice, and Cucumber Namasu. Spicy Korean Chicken Bowl It’s got a great Korean Gochujang Sauce, and the Chicken Strips in it are very crispy. The rice and the cucumber definitely balance out this meal. For example, the spice with the chicken gets cooled down by the cucumbers and the rice is a perfect palate cleanser. Spicy Korean Chicken Bowl Overall, it’s a very solid choice. This particular bowl might be one to two steps above something a picky-eater might enjoy. Next, we got an order of the Chicken Strips for $10.99 and fries. Chicken Strips and Fries These are a solid choice that all eaters would enjoy. We found them to have the perfect balance of juiciness and crispiness. If you need some “comfort” food or just a simple and no-frills option that’ll hit the spot, this is your choice. Lastly, we got an order of the Pan-Asian Noodles and Vegetables for $10.29. We’ve heard some people say that they’re a different noodle vibe than that of the ‘Ohana noodles and that they prefer them to the ‘Ohana noodles. It might be because they’re a bit more savory whereas the ‘Ohana noodles can be a bit sweeter. Pan-Asian Noodles and Vegetables We really enjoyed these and definitely recommend them especially if you’re a fan of the ‘Ohana noodles, but you’re looking for a slightly different experience. So what did we think of our visit to Capt. Cook’s? Overall We really love coming to Capt. Cook’s and grabbing a bite to eat. We always find it to have a chill vibe and tasty eats. You also can’t sleep on the fact that you can order some of the Polynesian Village Resort’s famous bites like the Tonga Toast right here and that you can Mobile Order which makes this spot oh-so-convenient. Nosh or Not? You’ll want to dine here if… You’re a fan of Polynesian food. If you really appreciate a good bite to eat at a Polynesian restaurant, we definitely think you should check this place out! It’s a quick service restaurant and you can Mobile Order here. What’s not to love? You want to try some of the Polynesian’s signature food items. There aren’t a lot of places on the Disney World property to get good Polynesian food, and what makes this spot special is that you can get some signature items right from this QS restaurant. You’re going to be at the Polynesian Village Resort and you want to unwind for a minute. This is a perfect stop if you’re doing a Monorail restaurant crawl or you’re visiting the Polynesian Village Resort and just want to unwind with some food and drink. You’ll want to dine somewhere else if… You’re looking for that traditional table service dining experience. If you’re looking for a full-on table service restaurant like Kona Cafe or ‘Ohana, this spot isn’t for you since it’s a quick service with some grab-and-go options. If you want a character dining experience. If you’re looking to dine with Lilo and Stitch, well you’ve come to the wrong spot. You’ll have to check out ‘Ohana instead. You want a Dole Whip. While they serve a good number of the Polynesian Village Resort basics here, you’re not going to find a Dole Whip on the menu. For that, you’ll want to visit other spots like the Pineapple Lanai. Just when you thought we’d already eaten across Disney Springs with their newest eats and treats, we’re back for more! It comes precut When we first learned of a new snack coming to one of our favorite restaurants in Disney Springs, we couldn’t WAIT to try it out — but we had to. You see, this particular offering is only available for an exclusive time of the day each day during the restaurant’s happy hour. If you’ve not had a chance to stop by eet by Maneet Chauhan already, we’ve giving you yet another reason. eet by Maneet Chauhan has quickly become one of our favorite places to stop for a quick bite around Disney Springs thanks to its incredible line up of Indian cuisine and seasonal eats. The restaurant has debuted a new menu item you can only order during happy hour each day from 2-5PM each day. So, naturally, we had to time our visit just right and stop by to check it out! eet by Maneet Chauhan The Cheese Quesadilla will cost you $7.95 for a full small plate of cheese quesadilla with Indian pico and a side of Rika. Cheese quesadilla with rika The quesadilla is precut into sections and from the moment we laid eyes on it we could see all of the ingredients peering back at us from within. The Indian pico de gallo containing diced cucumber, onion, and tomato is folded into the shredded cheese that’s melted between two pieces of naan bread. Aftermath of pulling it apart Since the rika is served on the side in a cup, it makes it easy to customize how much you want to dip or pour over your cheese quesadilla. If you’re not already familiar with it, Rika is a sauce make from yogurt and Indian spices, and we found it really helped awaken the flavor of the quesadilla. Side of rika in a cup Overall, it was a good value for the price, however, since the dish is marketed as a cheese quesadilla, you might be a little thrown to find out there are veggies mixed into the ingredients. But who can resist the call of the gooey, melted cheese between two fluffy pieces of bread?! Clearly, not us! Delicious! We really enjoyed the portion of rika served with that quesadilla and it helped taper the spices to our preferences. At the end of the day, there really wasn’t anything super special about this classic dish with a twist but it did make for a very solid choice (that could easily be shared as a snack instead of as an entree) but you’ll have to make sure your timing is just right to snag it! With literally HUNDREDS of restaurants around Disney World, it’s no surprise that even some of the best ones can fly under the radar! Disney Springs When our friends and family members start planning their Disney World trips, we often get asked for our opinion on some of the “must-do” restaurants they’ve heard people rave about. From restaurants with an iconic atmosphere like Cinderella’s Royal Table to spots known for their incredible food like Le Cellier, there are definitely some places that are at the top of lots of Disney World bucket lists. But even though we get the love for those “buzzworthy” restaurants, we HAVE to talk about a seriously underrated spot we love! There are tons of restaurants to choose from in Disney Springs, Disney World’s outdoor shopping, dining, and entertainment district. You’ll find everything from unique, high-end dining to destination-worthy desserts. Morimoto Asia But, in our humble opinion, there’s always room for more delicious eats! That’s why we were excited to check out eet by Maneet Chauhan when it officially opened at the end of 2023. eet by Maneet Chauhan Located in the Marketplace section of Disney Springs, eet is a restaurant by James Beard Award-winning chef and Food Network star Maneet Chauhan and hospitality entrepreneur Vivek Deora. The quick service restaurant specializes in “traditional flavor with modern flair.” And we have to say, the menu is packed with some SERIOUS winners! Maneet Speaking to Guests at the Restaurant As huge fans of a good bread service, we fell in love with the eet Bread Service with Pimento Whipped Paneer. It’s served with buttered naan, garlic naan, pimento whipped paneer cheese, masala vegetable sticks, Indian pickle, coriander honey, and various chutneys. The variety and richness of flavors was impressive, and we’d call it a must-try for fellow bread service fans! Bread Service Plus, the Tandoori Chicken Poutine with chaat masala fries, tandoori chicken, white cheddar curds, and rich tomato butter sauce was an appetizer that I literally still daydream about. So savory, cheesy, and rich! A forkful of fries There are also choices for pickier eaters on the menu, like a Build Your Own Bowl option and a Kids Menu with choices like “Lil’ Naan Pizza,” beef sliders, and chicken fingers. Spread from eet by Maneet Chauhan We enjoyed just about everything we tried at eet, including some items that we’d consider seriously destination-worthy (hello again to that poutine). Plus, the menu has plenty of variety with options even for those who aren’t huge fans of Indian food. ValenChai Day Latte So, that raises the question — where is everybody?? On recent visits to eet, we’ve noticed that the restaurant typically isn’t super crowded with plenty of available seating. Plus, it’s not often a spot that we hear people bring up when talking about their favorite places to eat around Disney World. eet Dining Area Now, here’s the good news: If you want to seriously impress your family and friends by introducing them to an incredible Disney World restaurant that they may not have already tried — or even heard of — before, eet is your chance! Be sure to swing by eet on your next trip to Disney Springs and see if you agree with us that it’s a seriously hidden gem! Eet by Maneet Chauhan While we’re on the subject of other under-the-radar Disney World restaurants, one trick that can help you find hidden gems is to check out the restaurants at the hotels. A few of our go-to Disney World restaurants at the hotels are still relatively underrated, like Sebastian’s Bistro at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, Toledo at Coronado Springs’ Gran Destino Tower, and bluezoo at the Dolphin Resort. Sebastian’s Bistro Of course, that doesn’t mean that EVERY hotel restaurant will be your own, secret Disney World spot — especially if they offer something unique like character dining at Chef Mickey’s or the great views at ‘Ohana. But if you’re looking for dining options that are way better than the size of their fan club suggests, the hotels and Disney Springs are a great place to start! Toledo We’ll continue to be on the lookout for more hidden gems from around Disney World, and report back to you with all of our favorites! The EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival presented by CORKCICLE is underway! One of my favorite parts of this festival is enjoying the plant-based offerings and our culinary team has created some delicious dishes available at several Global Marketplaces. One of these recipes is the IMPOSSIBLE Chili Cheese Macaroni and Cheese with sour cream and cheddar from the Macatizers Global Marketplace. And today I am sharing this recipe with you. This creamy plant-based macaroni and cheese is topped with a hearty chili made with IMPOSSIBLE ground beef and three different types of beans. It’s a fantastic dish to serve for a family dinner or bring to a potluck. If you have leftover IMPOSSIBLE Three Bean Chili, it freezes beautifully. Now, let’s get to the recipe. IMPOSSIBLE Chili Cheese Macaroni and Cheese EPCOTInternational Food & Wine Festival Serves 8-10 IMPOSSIBLE THREE BEAN CHILI 2 tablespoons canola oil 1/2 cup diced onion 1 tablespoon minced garlic 2 tablespoons tomato paste 1 pound IMPOSSIBLE Ground Beef 1 teaspoon ground cumin 1 teaspoon dried oregano 1 tablespoon chili powder 1 (14 1/2 ounce) can diced tomatoes 4 cups vegetable broth 1 (15 1/2 ounce) can pinto beans, drained 1 (15 1/2 ounce) can red kidney beans, drained 1 (15 1/2 ounce) can black beans, drained Coarse salt, to taste Freshly ground black pepper, to taste PLANT-BASED MACARONI AND CHEESE 1/2 cup plant-based butter substitute 1/2 cup all-purpose flour 4 cups vegetable stock 4 cups plant-based shredded cheddar style cheese 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon white pepper 1 teaspoon garlic powder 1 1/2 teaspoons onion powder 1/4 teaspoon ground cayenne 1/2 cup nutritional yeast 1 pound macaroni noodles TOPPING 3/4 cup sliced green onion 1 cup plant-based sour cream 1 1/2 cups plant-based shredded cheddar style cheese FOR IMPOSSIBLE THREE BEAN CHILI: Heat oil in large stockpot or Dutch oven over medium heat for 5 minutes, until hot. Add onion and sauté for 5 minutes, until soft. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute, until fragrant. Add tomato paste and cook, stirring constantly for 3-5 minutes, until dark red. Add IMPOSSIBLE Ground Beef and turn heat to medium-high. Cook, breaking up large pieces, for 8-10 minutes, until fully cooked. Stir in cumin, oregano, and chili powder. Cook for 1-2 minutes, until fragrant. Add tomatoes and vegetable broth and heat until simmering. Cover and reduce heat to low. Continue simmering for 30 minutes. Add beans and cook uncovered, on low heat, for 20 minutes. Season with salt and pepper, to taste. Keep warm until ready to serve. FOR PLANT-BASED MACARONI AND CHEESE: Melt butter in large saucepan over medium heat. Sprinkle flour over melted butter and whisk for 5 minutes, until smooth light brown roux forms. Increase heat to medium-high and slowly add vegetable stock, whisking constantly until boiling. Once sauce begins to boil, reduce heat to low and add plant-based cheese substitute. Once cheese is fully melted, remove from heat. Carefully pour sauce into blender. Add salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne, and nutritional yeast. Blend on low speed until smooth. Cook macaroni according to package instructions. Drain water from pasta. Combine macaroni and pasta in a large saucepan. Keep warm until ready to serve. TO SERVE: Evenly divide Plant-based Macaroni and Cheese among eight bowls. Top with IMPOSSIBLE Three Bean Chili. Garnish with green onion, plant-based sour cream, and plant-based shredded cheddar style cheeses. Chef Mickey’s Tips: Serve the Plant-based Macaroni and Cheese separate from the IMPOSSIBLE Three Bean Chili and allow kids to choose which toppings they’d like to try. For a complete meal, serve with a favorite fruit or vegetable on the side. Cutting into Mickey-shapes is optional – but fun for kids to help with! Always use caution when handling sharp objects and hot contents. Please supervise children who are helping or nearby. This recipe has been converted from a larger quantity in the restaurant kitchens. The flavor profile may vary from the restaurant’s version. Be sure to check out the Disney Eats Foodie Guide to EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival 2024 for a full list offerings! Floridians are bracing themselves for a major storm. Rain during Hurricane Debby According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), Hurricane and Storm Surge Watches have been put in place for the Gulf Coast of Florida. According to the NHC, by the time the system — which as of Tuesday, September 24th, has officially been upgraded to Tropical Storm Helene — reaches the far northwestern Caribbean Sea early Wednesday, it will bring tropical storm conditions over portions of western Cuba and the northeastern coast of the Yucatan Peninsula with hurricane conditions possible. Click Here to Subscribe Furthermore, the NHC predicts that “The system is expected to intensify into a major hurricane before it approaches the northeastern Gulf Coast on Thursday, and the potential for life-threatening storm surge and damaging hurricane-force winds along the coast of the Florida Panhandle and the Florida west Gulf Coast is increasing.” ©NHC From there, Helene “will bring heavy rain to portions of the western Caribbean, which will cause considerable flooding and mudslides across western Cuba. Heavy rainfall will likely result in locally considerable flash and urban flooding across portions of Florida, with isolated flash and urban flooding possible across the Southeast, Southern Appalachians, and the Tennessee Valley Wednesday through Friday. Minor to isolated moderate river flooding will be possible.” Right now, the storm is projected to pass to the north and west of the Disney World area. If you are traveling to Disney World, we advise packing rain gear, because the outer bands of the storm may still bring rain and thunderstorms to Orlando. And be prepared for flight delays (pack your patience in addition to your rain jacket!), because weather like this tends to back up every airport in Florida. Get these Disney souvenirs before they go extinct. DinoLand, U.S.A. DinoLand U.S.A.’s days are numbered. Earlier this year at the 2024 D23 Ultimate Fan Event, Disney confirmed that the entirety of the Animal Kingdom opening day area was being closed to make way for the park’s new Tropical Americas land. While rides Dinosaur and TriceraTop Spin will be the most noticeable things to disappear, there are further unique things that are going to disappear forever. During Walt Disney World’s early years, almost all of the resort’s various lands offered specialty souvenirs that were only available within those lands. However, in recent decades, the amount of unique keepsakes has gone down, being replaced by relatively homogenized selections across the board. However, there are still some unique items if one knows where to look, including in DinoLand U.S.A. First off, there’s the photo booth. Themed — like the rest of the Chester & Hester’s Dino-Rama — to a traditional carnival, this traditional-style photo booth offers unique photo strips for $6.00. Photo Booth! These strips feature special Animal Kingdom and Chester & Hester’s framing devices. Given that a photo booth like this wouldn’t fit with the Indiana Jones and Encanto theming coming to Tropical Americas, it seems like a given that time is running out to get this unique souvenir. Photos The photo strips aren’t the only specialty items that are likely disappearing for good from the area. DinoLand’s carnival games feature specialty plushes of the land’s dinosaurs as well as Mickey and Minnie in specialty outfits that are only available to winners of the games, and in turn, they’re likely going to disappear with those games. Go play the carnival games at DinoLand soon! In addition, there are custom dog tags available in the area… Dinosaur-themed dog tags … as well as pressed pennies. Pressed Pennies While excitement is high for Tropical Americas, it’s tinged with just a bit of melancholy for some of the unique things at Animal Kingdom that will disappear with DinoLand U.S.A. Hey there, madam mayor reporting for duty. Here to give you the latest updates from Disney World’s most dangerous place…the tiny train town! Let’s go to the tiny train town! I stopped by the town a few days ago to see what kind of shenanigans the residents were getting into, and we’ve got some things to discuss! In the past, I’ve caught these ruffians in murder, espionage, vandalism, treachery, and more. But this week? Well, you’re going to be surprised. The biggest shock of this week’s visit to the tiny train town is that my residents were actually…ON THEIR BEST BEHAVIOR. (Cue collective gasp!) That’s right, there seemed to be no major plots afoot this week and I am certainly not taking the quiet for granted! I didn’t spot any new vandalism, debauchery, or obvious crime. Are the citizens…BEHAVING? Now, this could all be related to my plea during my last visit for the residents to be on their best behavior. We’re currently playing host to Mr. Mickey Mouse himself while he takes a vacation, and I wanted our residents to put on a good show. Thankfully, they’ve behaved! Good job guys! But even though we’ve had a relatively quiet week crime-wise, this visit was not without intrigue! It seems that there may be some love stories brewing in our little village. At the church on the outskirts of town where we’ve been waiting for a runaway bride, the maid of honor and best man have been spending increasingly more time together. Could we ring the wedding bells for an entirely different reason than the one that brought them together? The maid of honor and the best man are bonding! Also, I noticed last time that the new singles’ hang-out spot seems to be the various train stations around town. During this past visit, I spotted three gentlemen waiting there to pick up their dates for an evening of fun. Way to go, guys! Waiting for their dates And on top of the interesting love stories happening in our town, we also had another visitor! An EPCOT Cast Member stopped by to trim the trees. And yes, they use a teeny tiny hedge trimmer! Trimming the trees So all in all, it was an eventful week in the tiny town, even without crime! Stay tuned to DFB for more tiny town updates in the future. The anarchy within is mostly created by natural occurrences, like giant squirrels, wind, rain, and relatively godzilla-sized lizards who frequent the town; but we find it fun and entertaining to make up fictional stories about what COULD be happening. We are grateful to the folks who create and maintain this Tiny Train Town for Disney World, as it’s one of our favorite parts of EPCOT and always has been. Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort hotel is a super popular option for a whole host of reasons — and it’s about to get even more popular! ©Disney || Island Tower Later this year, the Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Villas and Bungalows will open, and we’ve been keeping an eye out for all the updates we can get. We’ve seen a sneak peek at some of the rooms and other areas of the hotel, including a full 3D room tour, too. But, we happened to notice something as we were perusing through the concept art — and we think you might be excited about it too! The new Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is set to open on December 17th, 2024! It’s a Disney Vacation Club property, but anyone is invited to book a reservation here. The 10-story tower will feature rooms of different sizes for parties of all shapes and sizes, plus dining options and more. But, if you ask us, the best thing about this new tower is going to be the VIEW! ©Disney In the concept art for some of the rooms, you can clearly see Magic Kingdom — and Cinderella Castle in the background, which makes sense given where the tower is located. This means that there will be NEW views for watching Magic Kingdom fireworks! ©Disney Just like the beach at the Polynesian now, which is near the location of the Island Tower, you’ll be able to get a glimpse of the show without having to leave the resort. They typically even pipe in the music to go along with the fireworks, and we’re hopeful that will be the case here. But, not only will you likely be able to view the fireworks from the common areas of the Island Tower on the water and at the restaurants, but certain hotel rooms will have views as well — meaning you could literally watch fireworks from your bed. Artist rendering of the terrace garden inspired by the islands of Hawai’i. The tower will feature four distinctly themed terrace gardens for members and guests to enjoy. © Disney Interested in booking a stay here? All guests are welcome to call to book a reservation to stay at the Island Tower NOW, so if you’re interested, you might want to see what’s available! Their experienced agents monitor your reservation for possible future savings, compare discounts, and figure out which one works best for your travel party, dates, resort, and touring plans. They also share expert tips and first-hand advice with you about your magical vacation. We can’t wait to see what this new tower looks like once it’s finally open at Disney World. In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for the latest news from Disney World and more — so stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog if you don’t want to miss a thing. While restaurants, attractions, and lands are set to close all around Disney World soon, the closures are also hitting outside of the parks. Disney World There are so many great offerings inside Disney World that you essentially never have to leave the property during your vacation. There are plenty of restaurants, shops, entertainment, free transportation, and even gas stations and a car care center! But sometimes, it is good to venture outside of Disney World to hit up the two outlet malls that are near Disney World and take a trip to the Character Warehouse or get a bite to eat outside of Disney property. If you were looking to dine outside of Disney World, we wanted to give you a heads-up that a popular restaurant in Kissimmee has just permanently closed. Located on 7903 IRLO Bronson Memorial Highway, Joe’s Crab Shack was a popular restaurant for those visiting the Orlando area. Unfortunately, this location has officially closed its doors. Joe’s Crab Shack has even taken down the page for the specific location. The good news is that there are still other Joe’s Crab Shack locations still open around Central Florida. The nearest location to Disney World can be found at 10 Blake Blvd in Kissimmee. Plus, there are plenty of other dining options around the now-closed Joe’s Crab Shack, like Miller’s Ale House. ©Experience Kissimmee We will continue to monitor any news of restaurants closing near Disney World. As we mentioned, you can expect to see many closures at Disney World in the near future, as there are new and exciting projects on the horizon. Magic Kingdom So far, we know that Animal Kingdom will see closures and construction at both The Tree of Life as it transforms into a brand new Zootopia-themed show called Zootopia: Better Zoogether. The show is set to open in the winter of 2025 and will replace the current show, It’s Tough to be a Bug! DinoLand U.S.A. will also close to make way for Pueblo Esperanza, a Tropical Americas-themed land set to open in 2027 with three brand-new attractions. ©Disney Over in Hollywood Studios, there are only a few more days to experience Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy, which will close on October 7th to make way for a brand-new Disney Villains stage show. ©Disney Magic Kingdom is also going to see many changes, as it was confirmed that the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island will close to make way for two new Cars attractions. While we do not have too many details on the new Villains Land announced for “Beyond Big Thunder Mountain,” we can expect to see a lot of construction in Frontierland in the near future. ©Disney Currently ongoing in EPCOT, Test Track 2.0 closed to make way for Test Track 3.0, which will be inspired by Test Track’s predecessor, World of Motion. Test Track Construction While locations like restaurants are closing inside and outside of Disney World, like Joe’s Crab Shack in Kissimmee, it just means that new things are on the horizon! We have great news from Disney Springs! Disney Springs Disney Springs has had a recent trend of stores closing for refurbishment. However, some of them end up closing for good only to have other stores take their place. We’ve been really worried about the future of this sweet treat spot, as its reopening timeline has shifted multiple times over the past few weeks, but we’re happy to report that it’s FINALLY back open! Candy Cauldron is a candy store located in Disney Springs that closed for refurbishment back in August. After seeing it change its reopening date from September 18th, to the 20th, to the 27th, and then finally the 24th, we were really concerned at what was going on here. So imagine our surprise when we saw it OPEN this afternoon! It’s back open! That’s right, the Candy Cauldron is back open in Disney Springs and still has all of your favorite packaged and fresh-made treats ready to go. Back in business! This is a great place to grab candy apples, those infamous Disney gummies, and so much more. Freshly made caramel apples! If you’re a fan of Snow White, you’ll really want to stop in here, because there are so many offerings themed to the story. So cool! Including a giant statue of the Evil Queen in her disguise! Spooky! We love walking by here and smelling all the delicious treats, but we will be honest — nothing appears to have drastically changed in the storefront from this refurbishment. We’re assuming a lot more work happening in the Cast Member only area of the store, since we can’t see a lot of change from out front. BUT we do know that Frozen Glaciers are now on the menu when they weren’t before, and there are tons of exciting Halloween offerings available in the bakery case, which we love. Some new offerings, but other than that, not a lot has changed Looking for more Disney Springs news? Look no further! More Recent Disney Springs News! Another day at Disney World, another round of changes in the works! Magic Kingdom No matter when you’re planning on visiting the parks next, chances are they’ll be a little bit different than the last time you were there. Disney World is always changing, and some pretty big updates are in store over the next several years. But, we may start seeing some other changes roll out sooner than that — here’s what we mean. We’re always on the hunt for the latest construction permits filed by Disney to get an idea of what sort of changes might be coming to the parks, and we found a few you might want to know about this time around! Cinderella Castle Over in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, it looks like Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run will be getting some TLC in the near future — we think. We spotted a permit to “Provide labor, material, and/or electrical for construction” which is pretty vague, so it ultimately could mean anything. The contractor listed on the permit is Buena Vista Construction Company — one of Disney’s in-house contractors. Smugglers Run Be on the lookout for construction at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn Resort if you’re heading there soon. A new permit indicates some projects could be on the way here! The description is for general construction so we’ll be sure to keep an eye out for any major changes. As of now, no warnings are listed on the Disney World website so we’re not sure what sort of impact this permit could have on any upcoming stays. Disney’s Boardwalk Our next permit update brings us to EPCOT, where it looks like The Seas pavilion is in line for some potential projects. A general construction permit has been filed, but it doesn’t get any more specific than that. The Seas is home to aquariums, interactive experiences, and even a ride and restaurant — so this permit really could be for anything! The Seas Pavilion We also spotted a new permit for the Contemporary Resort near Magic Kingdom. This general construction permit doesn’t tell us a whole lot, but it does tell us we’ll need to keep an eye on any potential changes over at this hotel. Disney’s Contemporary Resort We’re always on the hunt for the latest Disney permits that might clue us into new projects and updates, so make sure you stay tuned to Disney Food Blog for more news! A State of Emergency was just declared by Governor Ron DeSantis as Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine is predicted to gain strength quickly and head towards Florida. Magic Kingdom during Hurricane Debby The State of Emergency lists 41 counties in Florida as the state prepares for the threat of severe weather later this week. Currently, the counties that make up Disney World are not included in the State of Emergency. However, that does not mean that Disney World will not experience severe weather from the storm. ©Ron DeSantis As well, the storm is not currently expected to make landfall until later this week, so there will likely still be shifts in what areas will be most impacted. The Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine is currently located in the Caribbean Sea and it is expected to intensify into a hurricane as it nears western Cuba and the northeastern coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. ©NHC The current models for the storm have it making landfall near the Florida panhandle, but again, the models will likely change as the storm continues to move. As stated in the State of Emergency, the storm is expected to bring heavy rainfall, flooding, and gusty winds which will result in widespread power outages. ©NHC If you are heading to Disney World soon or are already at Disney World, you will want to keep an eye on this storm. While Disney World is well prepared for hurricanes, you will still want to take the necessary precautions to make sure your group stays safe. Rain on Main Street during Hurricane Idalia in 2023 You will want to pack smart and make sure you have rain jackets and ponchos. We also recommend packing Ziploc bags to keep valuables dry and stock your hotel room with your favorite snacks and drinks. While the storm is not currently predicted to be a direct hit for Disney World, it is possible that parts of Disney World could close due to the severe weather. Make sure you are keeping an eye on the weather, so you stay informed of the current conditions. There are huge changes are coming to Animal Kingdom! Animal Kingdom At Destination D23 last year, it was announced that a Tropical Americas-themed land would take the place of DinoLand U.S.A. Well, at D23 this past August, we got more details about what is to come when this new area, now named Pueblo Esperanza. This new land is set to open by 2027 as construction will be done in different phases. This new land will feature three brand-new rides! But there is one ride that we have some bad news about. Pueblo Esperanza will be home to an Encanto-themed attraction, a carousel that will feature some of our favorite Disney animals, and DINOSAUR will be rethemed to Indiana Jones. Pueblo Esperanza Model While these new rides are super exciting, we have some news that some people may not be too thrilled about. Indiana Jones Over at Disneyland, Indiana Jones already has an attraction, Indiana Jones Adventure. This attraction uses the same vehicles and ride technology as DINOSAUR. While the storyline won’t be the same on this new version of the ride, the ride’s technology is not likely to change. Indiana Jones Adventure One of the biggest complaints about DINOSAUR is that the ride is very jerky and whips your head around. Many people choose not to ride the attraction due to its movement. Well, we have some bad news if you were hoping that the new Indiana Jones Ride would be smoother and less rough. DINOSAUR Since Disney already knows that Indiana Jones works well with this ride technology, it would not make sense for Disney to invest in a new track and new ride vehicles. Instead, the ride will just be re-themed. The new Tropical Americas land coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom lets guests explore a preserved Maya temple – and the ensuing adventure – alongside Indiana Jones. Depending on the new story, the way the vehicles stop may differ slightly, but the jerkiness that people dislike is unlikely to disappear. This is likely why Disney decided Indiana Jones would be a good fit for the DINOSAUR re-theme: because they would not have to build a new show building, track, or ride vehicles. Indiana Jones in Adventureland in Disneyland While we only have concept art and a model of the outside attraction, we would not be shocked if the only changes are the theme and not the actual ride technology itself. New Indiana Jones Ride We can’t wait to get more concept art and details about this new attraction. For the time being, if you want to brave DINOSAUR one last time, you should do so soon as construction permits have already been filed for DinoLand U.S.A.’s upcoming retheme.
