  1. We can all sing the “it’s a small world song” whether we want to admit it or not. In fact, it’s probably stuck in your head right now. “it’s a small world” in Tokyo It may be a “small world” but this ride is getting some BIG changes at one Disney park! Back in March, Disney announced that there would be a Marvel take-over of the “it’s a small world” ride at Tokyo Disney. Groot and friends will be experiencing the world’s cultures over at this well-known ride in 2025, and now we got a sneak peek at the characters coming for the fun! “it’s a small world with Groot” is opening at Tokyo Disney Resort on January 15th, 2025! Groot (from Guardians of the Galaxy) and his friends from Marvel Studios films are visiting Earth for vacation! During Groot’s visit to Earth, he will encounter his friends in various locations on Earth and experience their regional cultures and music. “it’s a small world” is the perfect place for them to do that! ©Disney Now, Disney Imagineering has shared a first look at the animatronic characters that you’ll be able to see on “it’s a small world with Groot!” And y’all, they’re ADORABLE. ©Disney Walt Disney Imagineering shared a video on Instagram showing the process of creating and dressing the Marvel superheroes for their trip to Earth. We got to see the Black Panther… ©Disney …Thor… ©Disney …Gamora… ©Disney …Mantis… ©Disney …and Ant-Man (though we needed a magnifying glass to find him)! It was a funny little video of tiny superhero animatronics, and Groot was a great host showing us around! ©Disney These little superheroes will be a fun addition to the ride in Tokyo. This mash-up will be the first time Marvel characters will be seen on a Tokyo Disney Resort attraction, so this is a HUGE deal for “it’s a small world.” We can’t wait to see them enjoying the cultures of the world! You can ride “it’s a small world with Groot” from January 15th, 2025 through June 30th, 2025. For more Disney news, keep following DFB! 4. Disney World’s nighttime shows are some of our favorite forms of entertainment! Fireworks Disney does a great job of using visual elements such as fireworks, lasers, and projections combined with music to create an immersive storytelling experience. There has been a one-of-kind Disney World nighttime show happening this summer that fans have really enjoyed, but unfortunately, it’s last show is happening SOON. Disney Dreams That Soar has been ongoing at Disney Springs since May 24th. It was the first drone show to come to Disney World and the first nighttime show at Disney Springs. It features 800 drones creating amazing images in the sky set to memorable Disney music. ‘Up’ house in Disney Dreams That Soar Images like the Up house, the Star Wars Death Star, Peter Pan, Dumbo, and more light up the night sky. However, you only have one more night to see this magical event. The last shows for Disney Dreams That Soar is scheduled for September 2nd. There are two times available to catch the show, 9PM and 10:45PM. Death Star in Disney Dreams That Soar There has been no word on other drone shows coming to Disney World at this point, but this one at Disney Springs has been popular! If you’re hoping to catch one of the last two shows, you may want to arrive early to save a good spot as it may be busy. Disney Dreams That Soar There are viewing areas roped off and some restaurants have great views. The official viewing area, though, is on the West Side of Disney Springs along the water between the Aerophile balloon and the Cirque du Soleil Theatre. Dreams That Soar Viewing Area We’ve watched it from the top of the Coca-Cola building with a pretty good view! However, the show’s music will likely be muted here as the rooftop bar plays its own music. View of the drone show from the Coca-Cola rooftop The show also interacts with your MagicBand+, so come ready to see your band light up with the drones! It’s SO cool Hopefully, you got to catch this cool show or are able to view it for the last night at one of its last shows! For more Disney news, keep following DFB! 5. We thought we had just about seen it all when it came to Disney-related horror films, but, here we are. After Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey ruined our childhood perception of the loveable ol’ bear, we were sure we’d never recover. ©Jagged Edge Productions And then it was announced that those same creators would be making another slasher movie in the same universe called Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble (no, that’s not a joke) featuring characters like Bambi, Tinker Bell, Pinocchio, Peter Pan, Tigger, Piglet, and more. But, they’re not stopping there because yet another Disney character will be getting his own scary movie and we’re sharing everything we know. From the creators of Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey and Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble comes the latest Disney-related slasher film — this time, all about a boy who never grew up. Peter Pan’s Nightmare Neverland tells the story of Wendy Darling as she attempts to rescue her brother Michael from “the clutches of the evil Peter Pan.” Welp, that sure sounds utterly terrifying and will no doubt ruin even more childhood memories. ©Jagged Edge Productions You can catch the trailer for Peter Pan’s Nightmare Neverland below, but it may not be appropriate for youngin’s so just keep that in mind: Peter Pan is just the latest character to be written into a slasher film thanks to the character now being part of the public domain, like Winnie the Pooh and Steamboat Willie himself. The original Peter Pan character and story was written by J.M. Barrie. His first appearance as a character was in 1902 — so Peter Pan has been around long before Disney. Still, he’s a character that many find synonymous with the Walt Disney Company ever since that first movie came out in 1953. ©Jagged Edge Productions If Winnie the Pooh and Peter Pan aren’t scary enough for you, you can also be terrorized by Mickey Mouse Trap, a similar horror movie that was released shortly after Steamboat Willie became part of the public domain — and thus, fair use to be featured in any number of unscrupulous productions. It follows a character named Alex, who is working a late shift at an amusement arcade on her 21st birthday. Her friends show up to surprise her, and then things take a horrifying turn as they all end up hunted by a simultaneously terrifying and silly-looking fellow in a Mickey mask. If you’re looking forward to seeing Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare, we have excellent news for you — it will be released on Halloween, October 31st. Just in time for you to never be able to sleep again. ©Jagged Edge Productions One thing is for sure, we’ll be on the lookout for any terrifying Peter Pan impersonators. 6. Heads up Disney+ subscribers, things are changing… ©Disney We’ve known for a while that Disney is changing their streaming pricing structure next month. Beginning in October, prices for Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+, and the bundle of all three will be increasing. In preparation for that, the company is adding some NEW options to the service. On September 4th, Disney+ will introduce a new continuous playlist feature. The first will be “focused on preschool content featuring TV series and shorts available on Disney+ including Sofia the First, The Lion Guard, Puppy Dog Pals, and Minnie’s Bow-Toons.” According to Alisa Bowen, the President of Disney+, “Playlists are the latest example of how we’re providing the best value and experience for our subscribers every time they open Disney+. Whether it’s news, kids’ content, popular genres, hit TV shows or blockbuster films, there will be something for everyone in a lean-back viewing experience based on seasonality and interest.” Doc McStuffins and Sofia the First Later this fall, Disney will launch four more curated playlists focusing on: Seasonal Content — a collection of seasonal-themed content from across the Disney+ catalog Epic Stories — a compilation of action-packed stories from marquee brands and franchises, including Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars Throwbacks — a destination for nostalgic pop culture content Real Life — a lineup of traditional documentaries, biopics, and true stories According to Disney, the content on these playlists will be updated monthly. ©Disney In addition to the playlists, Disney is also making another change in relation to the upcoming U.S. Presidential Election. According to the company, “all Disney+ subscribers will have access to ABC News Live, a 24/7 multi-award winning, premium streaming news channel for live newscasts, breaking news, live events and in-depth special reports.” Much like the playlist options, ABC News Live will be available to all subscribers beginning September 4th. ©Disney Just weeks before Disney plans to change their streaming pricing structure, the company has introduced a litany of new options to Disney+. 7. Disney World is known for being magical, right?! EPCOT at Disney World I mean, the rides, the food, and all the memories — it’s all second to none. But speaking of the food, let’s be real — sometimes the choices Disney makes can be pretty wild. To be sure most every snack with the name “Mickey” in it (i.e. Mickey pretzel) and Dole Whips always hit the spot, but there have been a couple of menu items that have made us gasp, guffaw, and sometimes even gag. Let’s talk about ’em! As we were saying, there have been some Disney World foods that have left us feeling like, “Did Disney really just serve that?” The Pickle Milkshake at the EPCOT Food & Wine Festival Yup, you read that right. We’re talking about a Pickle Milkshake. This “concoction” has definitely caused quite a stir. And while pickles and milkshakes together sounds like a dare that went too far, but it’s actually available at Disney World. Pickle Milkshake Imagine, if you can, the cool creamy sweetness of a vanilla milkshake but now add a hefty dose of pickle juice. Let’s just say that it’s such a twist that it’ll leave your taste buds confused. You can go ahead and put this in the one-and-done category. ALERT: Disney’s Infamous Pickle Milkshake Is BACK in EPCOT, and It Brought a Weird Friend Squid’s Revenge at Be Our Guest Restaurant So, back during Disney World’s 50th anniversary, Disney decided to push the boundaries of culinary creativity with the Squid’s Revenge drink at Be Our Guest Restaurant. We’re not talking about just an octopus-flavored drink (which would be wild in its own right), but a cocktail that’s served with an actual tentacle. Yup, a real deal tentacle. Yup, that’s an octopus tentacle in our drink. We’re all for adventurous eating and drinking, but this one just might have taken things a bit too far. It’s probably safe to say that the combination of alcohol and an actual sea creature might be just enough to trigger the gag reflexes in a lot of people. REVIEW: We Drank an OCTOPUS Cocktail in Disney World and It Went About as Well as You’d Think! The Swine Brine at the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival Food & Wine is usually guaranteed to be a treasure trove of delicious discoveries, but the Swine Brine? Well, that’s a WHOLE different story. Swine Brine This “unique” cocktail features Jim Beam Bourbon, apple cinnamon cider, lemon juice, Dijon mustard, and an actual chunk of pork, which altogether sounds like a confusing mashup of flavors. This is probably going to be one of those novelties that you try once and then never speak of again. Hold On, WHAT?! Did This EPCOT Food and Wine Festival Booth Make Us Like SWINE BRINE?! 8. The Walt Disney Company is the owner of networks such as ABC, ESPN, and Freeform, all of which may be included in cable network lineups. ©The Walt Disney Company These networks are provided through cable providers such as Dish Network, DirecTV, and others via distribution deals Disney has with each company. However, the latest distribution deal fell through with a major U.S. provider, and the results caused blackouts of the Disney channels for millions of consumers. On Sunday, Disney removed its ABC stations, ESPN, and other networks from DirectTV’s programming lineup, according to CNN. This caused these major channels to go dark as major sports seasons began including the NFL season. The two companies, Disney and DirecTV, had been working on an agreement for the networks but it expired before a new agreement could be made causing Disney-owned channels to blackout. ©ABC Ron Thun, chief content officer at DirecTV, said in a statement, “The Walt Disney Co. is once again refusing any accountability to consumers, distribution partners, and now the American judicial system. Disney is in the business of creating alternate realities, but this is the real world where we believe you earn your way and must answer for your own actions. They want to continue to chase maximum profits and dominant control at the expense of consumers – making it harder for them to select the shows and sports they want at a reasonable price.” ©DirecTV The blackout of Disney-owned networks affected over 11 million DirecTV subscribers ahead of kickoff for a college football game, in the middle of the US Open tennis tournament, and just days before the NFL season opener. Disney representatives Dana Walden, Alan Bergman, and ESPN Chairman Jimmy Pitaro commented, “DirecTV chose to deny millions of subscribers access to our content just as we head into the final week of the US Open and gear up for college football and the opening of the NFL season. While we’re open to offering DirecTV flexibility and terms which we’ve extended to other distributors, we will not enter into an agreement that undervalues our portfolio of television channels and programs. We urge DirecTV to do what’s in the best interest of their customers and finalize a deal that would immediately restore our programming.” ©ESPN Disney stated that the rates they were asking for from DirecTV were in line with those they ask of other providers and are at value of its networks. According to a Disney spokesperson, DirecTV has sought “unreasonable” discounts. However, DirecTV shared that Disney had demanded the carrier waive all “future legal claims that its behavior is anti-competitive.” ©ESPN “Unfortunately, while [direct-to-consumer] offerings have evolved, pay TV packages have remained largely unchanged,” Thun said. “Instead of allowing distributors like DirecTV to also develop smaller, more tailored packages at prices that reflect the value they get from the content, programmers have continued to impose and enforce strict bundling requirements through exorbitant minimum penetration rates – the minimum proportion of a distributor’s subscribers required to access a channel.” ©Disney This collapse came shortly after Disney had been working to create a sports streaming package with Warner Bros. Discovery and 20th Century Fox. However, Venu was blocked by a judge due to a likely violation of antitrust laws. For more Disney news, keep following DFB. 9. Planning a Disney World trip during the Atlantic hurricane season can be a roll of the dice. Rain at Animal Kingdom Just last month, Hurricane Debby made its way across Florida, bringing major rain and wind to the Sunshine State. The National Hurricane Center has been monitoring two more potential disturbances in the Atlantic — and we’re sharing the latest updates you might need to know ahead of your next visit. As of the morning of Monday, September 2nd, the National Hurricane Center is tracking three “areas of interest” in the Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean Sea, and the Gulf of Mexico to determine the chances of each disturbance developing, WESH news reports. Tropical Storm Debby at Magic Kingdom A tropical wave in the Caribbean is hitting Puerto Rico and the surrounding areas with disorganized thunderstorms and gusty winds. As the storm reaches the western Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico later this week, a tropical depression could form. Formation chances are near 0% right now, but jump to 40% over the next seven days, which is considered “medium.” ©WESH A second low-pressure area is being tracked, this time in the Gulf of Mexico just off the coast of Texas. The National Hurricane Center expects the system to potentially develop if it stays offshore long enough — possibly moving inland on Tuesday. Heavy rains and flash flooding could be possible over the next few days. Right now, formation chances are sitting around 10%. ©WESH And, there is a third area of disturbance off the coast of Africa in the Atlantic that is producing thunderstorms and disorganized showers. A tropical depression could form over the next few days with the chances being low at 10% for now, and later increasing to 40% as the week continues. ©WESH As of right now, none of these storms are a direct threat to Disney World but we’ll be on the lookout for any major changes. If you’re visiting Disney World during a storm, don’t let the rain and wind put a damper on your day! Bring your rain gear, an extra pair of shoes, and a positive attitude as a rainy day at Disney World can be a fantastic day. Be patient with Cast Members and understand that some attractions may not be operating and certain entertainment offerings may also be canceled or modified. But there is still so much to do and you can often enjoy lower crowds during a rainy day at Disney World. 10. What are you most looking forward to do on your trip to Disney World? Refillable Mug You’ve got so many options. Will you be riding all the rides you can? Are you just there for all the shows? Let’s be honest, you’re coming for all the food and drink, right? Speaking of drink, we’ve been noticing this collective demand coming from Disney fans about a refillable mug change at Disney World and we wanted to find out how you felt about it! Well, we asked and you delivered! We reached out to our followers on Facebook to ask: “Do you think Disney should allow refillable mugs to be used in the parks?” We had quite a few people leave their opinions in the comments! What do you think? Now, let’s dive into some of your responses! The “Yes” Team First up, a whopping 89% of you want to see a change that would allow you to use your refillable mugs at designated spots in the parks, and honestly, we’re totally here for it! Resort Refillable Mug To this point, DFB reader Eva, summed it up perfectly with, “Yes — even if only at quick-service locations that already have the self-serve fountains to start. It’s so cheap for Disney but will increase value for guests.” Pamela chimed with, “Yes, at designated locations, that would be awesome. Wouldn’t even need to be a huge selection.” T.j. added, “Yes when you are staying at their property, you are already spending a ton of money. It would be a small price to pay to keep people hydrated and made to feel like they matter.” Refillable Mug Then we’ve got Taylor, who added, “I think they should. I love going and getting my cup when I’m in universal. It’s so convenient.” Speaking of Universal, Lynn shared, “YES! I love the way Universal does it. I love the Freestyle machines everywhere (except Wizarding World). Most days we activate them. When we do a half day we bring them and just get ice & water.” In a same vein, Lori shared, “Absolutely even if it costs more. Other major parks like Cedar Point and Hershey have souvenir cups — pay a flat fee per day and unlimited refills but you can only refill once every hour or some timeframe like that. I’d like a format like that but payable upfront.” Drink Station at Drop Off Pool Bar Laura took it a step further, saying, “Good God, yes, Disney should allow Resort Refillable Mugs to be used in the parks. We used them at the water refill stations, especially at Animal Kingdom. We simply packed one mug in our Loungefly (I carried), then filled the mug with water and each took sips until it was empty. This is a perk Disney Parks could definitely afford. They are already making quite a bit of money on the mugs, why not let us use them in the parks. And the upshot for them is this — the more hydrated we are in the parks, the better we feel, so we stay longer and spend more money in the shops.” Those in the “No” As you can imagine, not everyone is thrilled about the idea of using your refillable mugs at designated spots in the parks (11% of you responded this way). Refillable Mug First up, DFB reader Heather shared, “I don’t really need a refillable mug for the parks – I prefer water to help stay hydrated. I like the refills at the resort, so I can get caffeine in the morning and then something with flavor if I go back for a mid-day break as well as when I get back at night.” Karen raised concerns about hygiene, saying, “No! Having everyone’s germy cup at the soda fountains is gross in the first place… maybe if they gave it out in a paper cup, but at the end of the day seems like it’s just going to make park tickets even more expensive.” Drink Station at Caribbean Beach Resort’s Banana Cabana Pool Bar Then to wrap things up, some, like Christa, simply prefer to “bring your own water bottle,” while others, like Rita, would rather Disney focus on bringing back FastPass than adding another thing to carry around the parks. Refillable Resort Mugs Those were just some of your thoughts on whether Disney should allow refillable mugs to be used in the parks, and we want to hear more from you! Until then, keep it right here for all the latest Disney news! Also, follow us on Facebook to join in on the next discussion. 12. After all the whirlwind announcements we heard at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, we had been waiting for Disney to make a move on the transformation of DinoLand, U.S.A. at Animal Kingdom to the Tropical Americas. DinoLand U.S.A. We learned that an Indiana Jones ride is poised to take over DINOSAUR, while an Encanto attraction will also be part of this new land. We had seen some initial permits filed a while back, but now it looks like things are really kicking into gear! Disney has filed three new permits all related to the Tropical Americas retheme at Animal Kingdom! Each permit’s description is listed as, “Provide labor, material and/or electrical for construction,” which as you might have guessed could really mean anything. DinoLand, U.S.A. It’s probably an intentional move on Disney’s part to keep these permits as vague as possible so they don’t reveal too much information about what’s going on here. We do know that Buena Vista Construction Company is listed as the contractor on all three permits — which is a construction company that Disney itself owns and operates from Disney World property. @Disney The addresses listed on the permits match up with three separate buildings in an area that is currently backstage at DinoLand — so we’re not sure if these permits are related to new construction or are instead potentially related to preparing the area for construction just yet. The fact that the expiration dates on the permits are the standard one year likely means that more will be on the way soon. Map of planned construction areas Based on the model of the Tropical Americas land we saw at D23, it does look like the Encanto ride will have a large show building, so it’s possible that Disney might need to revamp some of the backstage space into usable space for the ride. Ultimately, though, these permits are an exciting sign that means this retheme is gaining some actual momentum. Puebla Esperanza model The land, which Disney announced will officially be named Pueblo Esperanza, is slated to open in 2027 and will highlight the Tropical Americas through the stories of Encanto and Indiana Jones. Pueblo Esperanza will become home to two signature attractions — an Encanto ride featuring the Madrigal family and a new Indiana Jones adventure ride! Pueblo Esperanza Model The new land will feature classic Spanish-style architecture with a large hacienda that will also serve as one of the largest quick-service restaurants at Disney World. The rich and lush color and biodiversity of the Tropical Rainforest will be on full display and at the center of Pueblo Esperanza will be a large fountain where stories will be told by gathering villagers. We can’t wait! We’ll be on the lookout for more updates about this massive transformation, so stay tuned to Disney Food Blog for everything you need to know! 13. We would like to think that Disney is receptive to some of the things us fans come up with or request. Sleepy Hollow For example, when Disney World removed the hush puppies from the menu at Columbia Harbour House, there was a LOT of chatter from folks who were upset that this favorite snack disappeared. Then Disney brought that snack back. We’ve seen instances of where Disney has also taken some of our ideas for snack hacks and made them permanent additions to the menu. Well, y’all, it’s happened again! Disney has taken one of our snack hacks and added it to the menu! So speaking of questionable Disney decisions, Disney recently took one of our favorite snacks off the menu at Sleepy Hollow Refreshments. This was the the Fresh Fruit Waffle Sandwich that came with bananas, berries, and chocolate-hazelnut spread (we’re just not going to talk about the tragedy of how the waffles changed right now, okay?). Fresh Fruit and Nutella Waffle So we had to do what we had to do and hack the new menu at Sleepy Hollow to at least TRY to get our favorite snack back. So here’s the thing, the Fresh Fruit Waffle Sandwich was replaced by a Mickey Waffle topped with EITHER chocolate-hazelnut spread and bananas, OR berries and powdered sugar. You couldn’t get one with all the stuff together. Chocolate-Hazelnut Banana Mickey Waffle However, we recently were browsing the Mobile Order menu at Sleepy Hollow and noticed a new option. For just $1, you could add berries to the Mickey Waffle with Chocolate-Hazelnut Spread and Bananas, therefore creating as close of a recreation of the old snack (minus the better waffle) as possible. Our hack So, a new DFB snack hack was created! But wait, because now, there’s been a new development. You can now actually order this on the menu without doing any kind of hacking. The Mobile Order menu now includes a Mickey Waffle with Chocolate-Hazelnut Spread, Bananas, Berries, and Whipped Cream. And the good news? It’s the same price as what our hacked waffle ended up costing! So, it seems like Disney was paying attention when we said we wanted the old waffle snack back…sort of. ©Disney Now, you can sort of get the old favorite snack, save for the superior waffle. So, what’s our problem with the Mickey waffles? Don’t get us wrong — we love Mickey-shaped snacks, but this one just doesn’t hold up very well with heavy toppings like that. It gets soggy, and it reminds us more of a pancake than the previous waffles, which had crisper edges and were tastier. So just in case you’re paying attention, Disney, could you bring back the old waffles, please? Stay tuned to DFB for more. REVIEW: Should Disney RETIRE These Old Snacks? 17. The 2024 EPCOT Food & Wine Festival is now open and we’re eating our way around World Showcase! Tangierine Café You’ll find lots of food booths with delicious eats and drinks, merchandise you can’t wait to get your hands on, and concerts to catch. Luckily, we’re here to take you through it all so you know what’s worth a stop. And now we’re heading to one spot — Tangierine Café: Flavor of the Medina — to check it out! Menu Over at Tangierine Café: Flavor of the Medina, you’ll find savory and sweet dishes — and they’re all returning. That doesn’t mean you won’t find something delicious here though, and there are some new hard ciders! 2024 Menu Now that we’ve taken a look at the menu, it’s time to try some food. Eats We started off with a festival staple at this booth — Grilled Kebabs with carrot-chickpea salad and garlic aïoli. As usual, you can choose from chicken or lamb, so naturally, we tried BOTH! These are $6.25 each. Grilled Kebabs with carrot-chickpea salad and garlic aïoli — Chermoula Chicken Of the two meats, the chicken was our favorite. We were happy with the portion sizes of both options, but we preferred the flavors of the chicken. The lamb wasn’t screaming lamb to us; it tasted more like a sausage or chorizo without any spice. However, we still liked both options enough. Grilled Kebabs with carrot-chickpea salad and garlic aïoli — Moroccan-spiced Lamb The fresh vegetables had a medley of chickpeas, carrots, and what seemed to be raisins, and it was super good! We would recommend either of these items. The Fried Falafel Pita with Tahini Sauce for $5.50 has been a delicious vegetarian option when we’ve had this before. Fried Falafel Pita with tomato-cucumber relish and tahini sauce Our falafel was also yummy! The pita was soft and the falafel wasn’t too crispy, so it’s easy to bite or cut into. It was filled full with falafel, relish, and sauce which was great. Overall, there’s good flavor, a good portion size, and a good consistency. It’s easy to cut into Next, we tried the Stone-baked Moroccan Bread with Hummus, Chermoula, and Zhoug Dips for $5. Y’all, this bread is so light and fluffy — it doesn’t even NEED any dips. But, we tried them anyway, of course! Stone-baked Moroccan Bread with assorted dips As usual, this bread was tasty! We found that it held its form better this year than it did last year, so we filled it with dip and totally enjoyed it. All of the dipping sauces were fantastic, as well. The chermoula reminded us of a chipotle salsa (which was our favorite), one was a plain hummus, and the green zhoug dip is a spicy cilantro sauce which was also really good. This bread is a fun appetizer to share with the rest of your items here! The bread and dips were great! For dessert, we had the Pistachio Cake with Cinnamon Pastry Cream and Candied Walnuts for $4.75. We’ve liked this cake at past festivals and it usually does not disappoint. Pistachio Cake with cinnamon pastry cream and candied walnuts Luckily, the same can be said this year! It’s a cute, moist cake with good flavors that complement each other. The filling tastes like spiced fig which helps tone down the pistachio flavor of the cake itself. The walnuts and chocolate are great additions as well for textural elements, plus the walnut adds a nice sweet, nuttiness. This cake never lets us down. Well, now that we’ve tried some food, let’s wash it all down with some cider! Drinks Once again, a Cider Flight is on the menu and it features two NEW hard ciders and one returning. You can get the flight for $10.25 or purchase each cider individually for $5.75 for 6 oz. or $9.75 for 12 oz. New for this year is the Keel Farms Blackberry Pear Hard Cider and the Coppertail Brewing Fallen Fruit Tamarind Mint Hard Cider. The 3 Daughters Brewing Fig Hard Cider is returning. Hard Cider Flight The lightest of these three beers is the fig cider which was a good cider with the fig flavor hitting on the back end of your sip. This was also a bit sour. 3 Daughters Brewing Fig Hard Cider The middle beer is the tamarind mint cider which was our favorite of the three. It didn’t have a strong mint flavor, instead, it was more of a sour tamarind flavor. It’s really enjoyable if you like sour ciders. Coppertail Brewing Fallen Fruit Tamarind Mint Hard Cider The darkest cider in the flight is the blackberry pear cider which was our least favorite. It was very sweet, and we wish it would have had more of a bite from the blackberry. It’s a weird combination of blackberry and pear that just makes the drink super sweet. So in this flight of ciders, you’ll get a sour cider, sour cider, then sweet cider. Keel Farms Blackberry Pear Hard Cider The Fig Cocktail with white cranberry juice and fig vodka is returning yet again this year. In previous years, we thought it seemed a little sweeter than we’ve experienced at past festivals. If you don’t like cranberry or fig flavors, you’ll want to skip it. Try it for yourself for $11.50. Fig Cocktail You can also grab the CORKCICLE Stemless Flute here for $24. Overall Overall, we thought Tangierine Cafe: Flavors of the Medina was a great stop! While all of the food items are returning this year, they lived up to our expectations. We would recommend stopping for some delicious Moroccan food and ciders on your trip through the festival. 18. KA-CHOW! Get ready for CARS to zoom into Disney World’s Magic Kingdom! Magic Kingdom Entrance In August 2024, Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro made a surprising announcement at D23 2024: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event. Okay… he actually dropped a TON of surprising announcements, and one of them is that Magic Kingdom’s Frontierland is going to be expanded with a brand new area themed to Cars! And that, of course, begs the question: When will this new Cars section open? Well, before the Cars land can open, there is obviously a LOT of work that needs to be done. And that work will begin SOON… You see, the area of the park that is now occupied by Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America (down which the Liberty Square Riverboats sails) has been designated for the Cars expansion. ©Disney So, let’s cut to the (CAR) chase… No timeline has yet been presented for when the Cars expansion will open in Magic Kingdom. BUT, Disney has confirmed that work on the area will begin in early 2025. And, in fact, the first permits were filed in August 2024 to start the process. Tom Sawyer Island So, you’ll want to take that last raft ride over to Tom Sawyer Island or ride the Liberty Square Riverboat during this calendar year, if you can, to enjoy them while they’re still here. (Please be aware that an exact date has yet to be announced for the closure of these areas, but we’ll absolutely keep you posted.) Now, you may be wondering HOW, exactly, does Cars thematically fit into Frontierland? Disney has shared that those lovable Cars — Lightning McQueen, Tow Mater, and more — are leaving Radiator Springs to explore the West and into new frontiers and that the new area will “put our guests in the driver’s seat as we—quite literally—explore a new frontier in Frontierland.” Cars Area Concept Art ©Disney D’Amaro further shared that “The American West has always been about keeping your eyes on the horizon … believing in yourself, carving your own path, and striving toward success. That goes for miners in the mountains, bears from the country, a princess from the bayou … or a racecar from the big city.” So, after the construction is completed, what will we as guests experience? The new area will deliver two NEW Cars attractions to the park! Get ready to race on a major attraction through the mountains on wild terrain along mountain trails as you dodge geysers and splash through mud holes. Here’s a closer look at some of the concept art for the new ride. ©Disney Disney shared that the second ride will be geared toward “smaller racers” and will be fun for the whole family! ©Disney But until then, you know what that means… prepare yourselves for PLENTY of construction walls in Magic Kingdom. But while construction walls may indeed be unsightly, something beautiful is also coming to Magic Kingdom in the meantime. The summer of 2025 will see the debut of a NEW nighttime parade for the park: Disney Starlight! Disney Starlight — which was also announced at the 2024 D23 event — will be “using the latest technology to tell new stories about the characters you love.” “Disney Starlight” ©Disney Disney Starlight follows in the footsteps of previous iconic nighttime spectaculars like the Main Street Electrical Parade and SpectroMagic. In the announcement, Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro shared that, “Disney Starlight will add to that legacy” of these beloved nighttime parades. And nope, that’s not all the news that came out of D23 2024: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event… it’s not even close. (I mean, have you heard about VILLAINS LAND?!?) 19. One of the most fun things you can do in a Disney park is meet the characters! Whether that’s through a meet and greet or you see a character wandering around or you see characters during a character dining experience, it’s always a real TREAT when you come across them. Mirabel from ‘Encanto’ in Disney California Adventure Now, when it comes to characters, we don’t think you can beat the interactions in Disneyland because the resort is adding new characters ALL the time. Well, now, two NEW characters are coming to Disneyland and we think you’ll want to book a flight to the West Coast to meet them. You’ll be able to meet Luisa as of TODAY, September 1st. ©Disney Isabela will be making her first appearance in Disneyland to meet guests on September 3rd. ©Disney The two will be joined by Mirabel at El Zocalo Park in Disneyland’s Frontierland (it’s near Rancho del Zocalo Restaurant). There are no details yet if all three will be meeting at the same time or if they’ll rotate out, but the addition of these two new characters is really exciting! However, Disney has revealed that the two new characters will only be available for a limited time, so if you want to meet them, you’ll want to get to Disneyland quickly! We’ll keep an eye out for more characters in the parks, so stay tuned to DFB for more. I Am Shocked (and Grateful) That Disney Let These 2 Characters Into a Park Want to Learn More About Disneyland? 21. This booth is a battle between the sweet and the savory. Is it all too much of a good thing? Will one prevail? Or is this the culinary case of a win-win situation? 2024 Belgium Booth The 2024 EPCOT Food & Wine Festival has officially begun, and there is a lot to offer. There are plenty of food booths with tasty items, merchandise items to grab (of course), and even concerts to watch. But don’t let it overwhelm you. We’ve got you covered with everything you need to know. And now we’re heading to one spot in particular — now it’s time for the Belgium booth! Are the Belgian waffles worth the trip? Or will the smoked gouda mashed potatoes steal the spotlight? Let’s find out. Menu Over at the Belgium booth, you’ll find a couple of different Belgian waffles along with a savory dish — the Beer-Braised Beef (served with mashed potatoes). There are also a couple of new beers this year! 2024 Menu Now that we’ve taken a look at the menu, let’s dive into the food itself! Eats Alright, now we’re adults here, so we’re going to follow the rules (no matter how badly we want to dive into those desserts!). You have to have dinner before your dessert, so we grabbed the Beer-Braised Beef served with Smoked Gouda Mashed Potatoes for $6.25. Last year, we thought this dish was well-balanced with strong, tasty flavors. So, how does it hold up in 2024? Beer-braised Beef served with smoked gouda mashed potatoes This is the only item you really need; it was SO good. The mashed potatoes are so cheesy and would be totally delicious on their own. But they were tasty with the beer-braised beef! The beef was very tender and easy to cut with a plastic fork. They were very flavorful again this year. The portion size was also really good for this dish. It’s a solid, hearty dish that could easily count as a small meal for one person. Beer-braised Beef served with smoked gouda mashed potatoes Next up, we got the Belgian Waffle with Warm Chocolate Ganache for $5.50. In years past, we’ve really enjoyed these waffles. They’re usually light and fluffy, with pretty solid (if somewhat basic) chocolate ganache on top. Belgian Waffle with warm chocolate ganache The chocolate ganache had the consistency of Hershey’s chocolate syrup; it was very thin. It is better quality than Hershey’s syrup though, for sure! However, there was a lot of it poured right on the small waffle which instantly made the waffle soggy. We would have preferred a thicker ganache or less of it. Our waffle ended up soggy Finally, we got the Belgian Waffle with Berry Compote and Whipped Cream for $5.50. In the past, we preferred the chocolate ganache version to this one. But can the same be said this year? Belgian Waffle with berry compote and whipped cream This year, we preferred the berry waffle! While there are better dessert options at the festival, this is a good waffle if you love waffles. The waffle was soft and had a nice sweet batter. The berry compote was made with blueberries, strawberries, and blackberries. The whipped cream melted pretty fast on both waffles, so you’ll want to eat them quickly to get the fluffy whipped cream. This was a pretty good waffle Drinks In terms of drinks on this menu, we have a returning favorite, the Belgian Chilled Coffee, and some new and returning beer options, which you can get individually or as a beer flight. The Belgian Chilled Coffee (non-alcoholic) for $5 or the Belgian Chilled Coffee featuring ChocoLat Deluxe Salted Caramel Chocolate Liqueur for $12. Both of these are returning options from previous years. Belgian Chilled Coffee The Belgian Chilled Coffee is simply a cold coffee with cream and sugar in it. There was nothing special about it. We would prefer to grab one of the festival offerings at Joffrey’s. However, if you’re simply looking for a basic coffee with cream, this is it! The alcoholic version may have more to offer in terms of flavor. This year, the new beers on the block are the Brouwerij St Bernardus Dragòn Wit and the Brouwerij Verhaeghe Vichte Duchesse Red Sweet & Tart Cherry Ale. The third beer offering is the Brouwerij Van Steenberge Gulden Draak Tripel Ale. The first beer on the flight is the Brouwerij St Bernardus Dragòn Wit which was a very clean European pure-tasting beer. It has a taste you don’t usually get with beers here in the U.S. It is the lightest beer in the flight. Beer Flight The second beer is the triple ale. Last year, we didn’t really enjoy the Brewery Van Steenberge Gulden Draak Tripel Ale. It reminded us of a fresh espresso shot in coffee. It’s strong but not something we personally enjoyed. That said, you may enjoy it if you don’t mind a good kick in your drink. This year, we found it to be very full-bodied and a bit bread-y! The third beer was by far our favorite of the three. It is a sweet and tart cherry ale that was delicious. It’s not overly sweet but has a nice cherry flavor without the bitterness you might expect. Overall, this flight is great because it gives you great variety with light, heavy, and sweeter beer options. It’s a great beer flight! Remember, you can get these beers a flight for $10.25, or if only one is calling your name, you can pick up a 6 oz. pour for $5.75 or a 12 oz. pour for $9.75. OVERALL You gotta get the braised beef with smoked gouda mashed potatoes! That is the shining star at this booth. The beer flight is fun with good variety, and the berry compote waffle was our favorite of the two options. Don’t miss this booth! 22. We know that a trip to Disney World is not cheap. Magic Kingdom The cost of travel, hotel, park tickets, food, and, of course, souvenirs can add up. We are all about saving you money during your trip to Disney World and giving you all the tips and tricks for setting you up for a magical vacation. But trust us, this $25 upgrade could totally change your Disney World vacation! There are a lot of great benefits to staying at a Disney World Resort. At all three hotel tiers there are different room types that range from Standard Rooms, Preferred Rooms, Park View Rooms, Pool View Rooms, and the list goes on and on. While room prices fluctuate based on the time of year and depending on if you are staying in a Value, Moderate, or Deluxe Resort, there is a $25 upgrade at Value Resorts that we think is so worth it! All-Star Music Resort Value Resorts may be the lowest tier of hotels at Disney World, but they are not to be slept on! The biggest perk is that these resorts are the cheapest resorts on the property, meaning you get to stay at a hotel in Disney World for a fraction of the cost compared to a Deluxe Resort. Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort Value Resorts also have super colorful and fun theming that make you feel immersed. They also share perks that both Moderate and Deluxe Resorts have. I’m on a Mission to Stay in a Moderate Hotel With My Value Resort Budget in Disney World All-Star Music Those staying at Value Resorts can partake in Early Theme Park Entry, which allows you to enter one of the four theme parks each morning 30 minutes before non-hotel guests. Early Entry into Disney’s Hollywood Studios Regardless of what hotel tier you stay in, you also can take advantage of free transportation around Disney World which includes buses, monorails, the Skyliner, and watercraft. Disney Bus One of the newest hotel perks is that those staying at a Disney World hotel can book their Lightning Lane reservations seven days in advance! Lightning Lane While rooms can be upgraded at all the resorts, it is significantly cheaper to upgrade your room at Value Resorts, especially at the three All-Star Resorts. You can choose between a Standard and a Preferred Room. All-Star Music Prices do fluctuate based on season and day of the week, but on average, it is about an additional $25 a night to upgrade your Standard Room to a Preferred Room. So what does this mean? This means that your room would be in a more desirable location, like being closer to the main lobby where the shopping and food court is, as well as bus transportation. 11 Tricks To Get A Hotel Room Upgrade No Matter Where You’re Staying World Premiere Food Court Value Resorts are very spread out, and the All-Star Resorts are very big, which means you could potentially have a very long walk to the main lobby. This $25 upgrade could save you so much time and can be a nice treat when you return from the park since you don’t have to make the trek to your room. All-Star Sports We totally think that it is worth the little extra cash to upgrade your room to a preferred room when you stay at one of the three All-Star Resorts! 23. All aboard the Hogwarts Express! It’s time to head back to Hogwarts. Welcome back to Hogwarts! Today, September 1st, is “Back to Hogwarts” day — the day Harry Potter heads back to Hogwarts for school each year. This marks a special day every year for Harry as he gets to return to the only place that has ever felt like home to him. The magnificent castle is a special place for Harry and all of us Harry Potter fans. While we can visit Hogwarts at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando, we’ll also soon be able to visit the awe-inspiring Ministry of Magic, and Universal just released brand-new details about the new Wizarding World of Harry Potter on this special day! An all-new Wizarding World of Harry Potter will be opening in 2025 at Epic Universe in Orlando. The new theme park will take us to Wizarding Paris as well as the Ministry of Magic! ©Universal You’ll begin your journey in 1920s Wizarding Paris where you’ll find new shops and restaurants. You’ll be able to search for a wand at the new store Cosme Acajor. ©Universal And you can enjoy the first ever live stage show in the Wizarding World — Le Cirque Arcanus. While these details were known before, Universal did share a new look inside the streets of Paris as we’ll get to walk them! ©Universal Universal also released NEW details about the Ministry of Magic! We’ll enter the 1990s British Ministry through Floo passageways that will take us right into the atrium where the restored Fountain of Magical Brethren will be standing tall. There will be flying memos throughout the atrium and the beautiful enchanted weather ceiling above us. ©Universal Through the atrium, you’ll enter the new attraction Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry. It’s Delores Umbridge’s trial day, and we’ll be taken on an epic journey through the Ministry. There will be scenes we’ve seen in the films as well as some we’ve never seen before. You’ll get to explore many locations of the Ministry as you walk through the queue including the locker room where there’s evidence that Harry, Ron, and Neville are in training to become Aurors. ©Universal You’ll get to see past Ministers in the Hall of Ministers. The ministers from the 1700s to the 1980s will be seen interacting with one another. ©Universal There’s also a map room, where a magical moving map of the Ministry can be seen! ©Universal Plus, we’ll get to walk through the Aurors’ headquarters! How cool is that?! Universal shared that we’ll find plenty of Easter eggs in this room including tributes to fallen Aurors. ©Universal And, we’ll even get to walk through Umbridge’s small pink and gold office where we’ll meet her former house elf who is packing it all up. Of course, there will be plenty of cat plates to be seen! ©Universal Past Umbridge’s office, you’ll enter the lift station where you’ll board the lifts that will take you to the courtroom for the trial. According to Universal, this ride will be incredibly thrilling as it’s so “technologically advanced.” ©Universal The lifts will start in the lift shafts but then careen off course and wind up moving through different parts of the ministry. You’ll be face-to-face with different creatures and Death Eaters in this wild thrill ride. ©Universal We’ll even explore many never-before-seen locations like the Ministry Archives and Department of Magical Creatures! Several characters from the books and movies will be featured for the first time in any Harry Potter attraction like Yaxley, Macnair, the Carrows, and Kingsley Shacklebolt. ©Universal One of the neatest details about this ride is that Imelda Staunton, the actress who played Delores Umbridge in the films, has reprised her role as Umbridge for the ride! ©Universal After hearing all these new magical details, we CANNOT wait to experience the Ministry of Magic and this brand new ride! The Wizarding World of Harry Potter — Ministry of Magic is one of five new lands coming to Epic Universe. The other lands include Super Nintendo World, Celestial Park, Dark Universe, and How to Train Your Dragon — Isle of Berk. Epic Universe will open sometime in 2025. ©Universal The world of Harry Potter is getting bigger as this new land opens, but even more is yet to come including new gaming options, a new Harry Potter baking show on Food Network, new LEGO collections, and more! 24. Connections Cafe and Eatery is part of this year’s EPCOT Food & Wine Festival with a couple of special items! Connections Eatery Connections is another one of the of the permanent snack locations that also join in on the festival fun with exclusive, limited-time snacks, and since they’re in EPCOT year-round, you might not know about those special eats! Come with us to check out this year’s TWO offerings! Menu Over at Connections Cafe and Eatery, you’ll find TWO new Food & Wine Festival items! A Korean BBQ Chicken Sandwich with pickled cucumbers on a brioche bun, and one drink that is ONLY at the Eatery, a Blackberry Caipiroska made with Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Minute Maid Lemonade, strawberries blackberry syrup, and frosted mint syrup. Eats We picked up the Korean BBQ Chicken Sandwich with pickled cucumbers on a brioche bun for $12.49. This was INCREDIBLE! It’s got a great glazed flavor that the chicken is totally coated in, and we love that it’s sitting on a total bed of pickles that have a great snap to them. Korean BBQ Chicken Sandwich The textures of the chicken and pickles together were fantastic, and the way the glaze matched with them? Amazing. We do need to mention, though, that the sauce has a low heat to it, so keep that in mind if you’re totally spice-averse. It’s nothing crazy, and it’s not going to make you need to reach for water or feel like your mouth is burning, but it is there! Drinks We also checked out the Blackberry Caipiroska, which is made with Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Minute Maid Lemonade, strawberries, blackberry syrup, and frosted mint syrup for $15. This one was so good that we would LOVE to see it return for EPCOT’s Flower and Garden Festival, too! Blackberry Caipiroska It’s very subtle and very floral — it reminds us of a drink you’d get together with your girlfriends to make for your afternoon get-together! You can’t really taste any of the alcohol in it since the floral and fruity flavors are stronger, so beware of that while drinking. We loved it so much that we think it deserves an honorable mention on our Best of the Fest list! OVERALL Overall, this is an extremely strong location for Food and Wine, and we encourage you to stop by and give both offerings a try if they’re something you would enjoy! We know the actual festival booths are often more of the main event at festivals, but this is a perfect example of why it may be a mistake to totally bypass these permanent locations with festival offerings — we definitely will be coming back to grab both the sandwich and the drink at LEAST once throughout the rest of the festival. They both were SO good! That’s it for this booth, but there’s a LOT more where that came from! Trying to plan the PERFECT trip to the 2024 EPCOT Food & Wine Festival? 25. We’re making our way AROUND THE WORLD… EPCOT’s World Showcase, that is! 2024 Booth And if you’re planning your own tasty trip “around the world” during the 2024 EPCOT Food and Wine Festival, we recommend having a plan in place for everything you’d like to try at the Festival’s Marketplace Food Booths. That’s why we’re reviewing every single Food Booth and trying every menu item for you, and we hope you’re ready to join us at the Brazil Booth to see if it should earn a spot on your list! Menu The menu at the Brazil Booth is short but sweet. Well… it’s pretty sweet if pork belly and cheese bread sound as good to you as they do to us! 2024 Menu That’s right! Brazil is once again delivering its famous Pão de Queijo (Brazilian cheese bread) to the Festival! It’s joined on the menu by Feijoada, a popular returning Pork Belly dish. These dishes are joined by two drinks: the Frozen Caipirinha with Cachaça and Xingu Black Beer. These sips are also returning items, which begs the question… Can the Brazil Booth rest on its laurels with a menu entirely based on returning items? Let’s find out! Eats We’re digging first into the Feijoada. This savory dish features pork belly over black beans with Brazil nut pesto, and BEN’S ORIGINAL Long Grain White Rice, and it’s available for $6.50. Feijoada: Black beans with pork belly, Brazil nut pesto, and BEN’S ORIGINAL Long Grain White Rice All truths told, the Feijoada has a history of mixed reviews. For instance, in 2022, it was one of the most flavorful dishes we tried at the Festival. In 2023, we couldn’t wait to try it again, but, alas…the pork belly was dry and a bit tough. Simply put, it didn’t deliver. This year has redeemed this dish, though. It’s so flavorful, thanks to the chimichurri sauce, and the black beans were seasoned perfectly. The rice is perfectly cooked. The pork belly has a hint of spicy heat, but it’s not overwhelming. Feijoada: Black beans with pork belly, Brazil nut pesto, and BEN’S ORIGINAL Long Grain White Rice The Pão de Queijo (which, by the way, is one of the eligible items for those who plan to partake in Emile’s Fromage Montage Cheese Crawl) typically earns rave reviews. It’s up for grabs for $5. Pão de Queijo: Brazilian cheese bread After all, what could go wrong with Brazilian cheese bread when it’s served warm and packed with cheese? As always, the cheese bread did not disappoint. It’s super chewy, cheesy, and just the right amount of greasy. Everything about this is SO good, and we’ll continue to order this year after year as long as it’s available. Pão de Queijo: Brazilian cheese bread Drinks You can wash down either dish (or both) with a Frozen Caipirinha with Cachaça once again this year! Frozen Caipirinha featuring LeBlon Cachaça This frozen refresher is consistently a hit, especially on an inevitably hot day at the Festival. If you love the tart burst of lime that comes from a traditional margarita, give this Brazilian drink a try! You can raise a glass for $12. You can also opt for Xingu Black Beer for 6 ounces for $5.75 or 12 ounces for $9.75. OVERALL Oh, Brazil booth, how do we love you? Let us count the ways. This booth was a true winner for us this year, and we’re happy that the Feijoada has been returned to its former glory. Of course, we’ll always come here for the cheesy bread, but this is one booth you don’t want to skip at the EPCOT Food & Wine Festival.
