  1. It is crazy to think that 2024 is coming to an end, which means it is time to start planning your trip to Disney World in 2025. Magic Kingdom Disney made so many announcements in 2024 about the future of Disney World and all that is to come, and now 2025 is almost here, which means we are about to start seeing those changes reflected in the parks and resorts. While all these new additions and perks will be great in the long run, unfortunately, they may make your 2025 trip to Disney World a little more complicated. In August, at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, many exciting announcements were made about the new additions coming to Disney World. These included new rides, lands, and entertainment offerings! But with new additions comes the need for construction, which unfortunately leads to closures. D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event Ride and land closures can be a real bummer, especially if you did not know about them before your trip. You can expect construction in all four parks throughout 2025. Construction walls in Adventureland In Magic Kingdom, we can expect construction in Adventureland as the new Pirates of the Caribbean Lounge is scheduled to open in 2025. An all-new lounge themed to Pirates of the Caribbean will open at Magic Kingdom in 2025. ©Disney At D23, we learned that a brand new Cars area will be coming to Frontierland. It will replace Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America. While no closing date has been announced, Disney confirmed that construction will start in early 2025. Coming to Frontierland at Magic Kingdom, a new area themed to Pixar Animation Studios’ “Cars,” will leave Radiator Springs and head to the wilderness with two new attractions, including an off-road race. We finally found out what “Beyond Big Thunder Mountain” will be, and it was confirmed that the highly rumored and anticipated Disney Villains Land will become a reality! While no timeline has been announced, Big Thunder will close for a lengthy refurbishment on January 6th, 2025, and will reopen sometime in 2026. We’ve already spotted some construction In EPCOT, Test Track closed over the summer to be reimagined as a third iteration of the attraction. No exact opening date has been announced, but the ride is expected to reopen in 2025. Test Track is closed EPCOT will also be home to a new attraction-themed lounge, the Spaceship Earth lounge, which is expected to open in 2025. ©Disney Hollywood Studios will soon be home to two new entertainment offerings in 2025! But while we wait for the brand new The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure and the new Disney Villains Stage Show, construction will be taking place on the buildings for the previous Voyage of the Little Mermaid as well as Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy. The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure While we do not have many details about the new Monsters Inc. land coming to Hollywood Studios, we would not be surprised if we saw closures and construction start for this new area sometime in 2025. ©Disney Animal Kingdom will see some of the first closures of the year. On January 13th, TriceraTop Spin, Fossil Fun Games, and Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures will all close permanently. This is the first phase of closures to hit DinoLand U.S.A., which will be rethemed into a Tropical Americas-themed land called Pueblo Esperanza. We would not be surprised if another phase of the land’s construction starts in 2025, as the whole land is expected to open in 2027. ©Disney Also, in Animal Kingdom, The Tree of Life will be getting a brand new show. It was announced that It’s Tough to be a Bug! will be replaced by a new show called Zootopia: Better Zoogether. The show is expected to open in the winter of 2025, which means It’s Tough to be a Bug! will close sometime in 2025. A new show inspired by the Walt Disney Animation Studios film “Zootopia” will debut next winter in Discovery Island at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. ©Disney While it is a bummer that all four parks will have ride closures and construction, there is still plenty to see and do. Plus, it is exciting to think about all the new projects that will be available in the future! Disney World Is Getting 8 New Rides! It is not only the parks that will see construction, but multiple resorts will have pool closures as well as construction to update rooms. Bay Lake Tower started a year-long renovation in September of 2024, and it is expected to be completed in 2025. While the resort remains open, you may hear construction noise and specific offerings may be unavailable. Bay Lake Tower Many people choose to stay at the Yacht and Beach Club for access to Stormalong Bay, but the club and the Shipwreck Pool will be closed from January 2025 to June 2025. Stormalong Bay Stormalong Bay is not the only resort pool closing. The Fantasia Pool at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort will be closed from January 2025 to April 2025. Fantasia Pool Phew! There will be a lot of construction and closures coming to Disney World in 2025, but that is not the only thing that will make it more complicated. Early in 2024, it was announced that Disney World hotel guests would get a brand-new perk! Starting in 2025, guests staying at a Disney World hotel will get a free ticket to visit a Disney World water park on check-in day! While this perk is a great way to pass the time as you wait for your room to be ready, it does present a few issues. Typhoon Lagoon To start with, Disney World currently operates one water park at a time. When this perk starts, Blizzard Beach will be the only water park open, as Typhoon Lagoon closed for the season earlier this month. This perk also means that guests will either change into their swimsuits in lobby bathrooms or, if they forget to take them out, dig through their luggage to find one before leaving it with bell services. Blizzard Beach We expect that buses will be packed to go to the water park as the only way to get to Blizzard Beach is by bus or rideshare, like a Minnie Van. If you bring your own car or rent a car, we highly recommend driving it to the water park if you plan on taking advantage of this perk. Summit Plummet at Blizzard Beach Disney World is changing, and that means in 2025, we will have to deal with the growing pains that can make a trip more complicated. We recommend watching out for closures that will be happening during your trip to avoid any disappointment and also to help you make your game plan. Spaceship Earth We know that closures, construction, and crowds can be disappointing, but we will be here every step of the way to help you navigate all the changes coming to Disney World in 2025. 4. The holiday season has officially arrived in Disney World, and we’re gearing up for the EPCOT Festival of the Holidays and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. Disney Springs It’s all SO EXCITING! But you can’t have Christmas in Disney World without the dude in the red suit, right? Well, if you need to have a chat with that jolly old man, you can do so RIGHT NOW in Disney Springs. Yep, we just recently visited Santa Claus, and we’re taking you along to experience it with us. You’ll find the Santa Claus meet and greet at the marketplace near Disney’s Pin Traders, where the Star Wars Trading Outpost used to be (it recently closed). You can check hours on the Disney World website or My Disney Experience app, but it’s usually from 10AM to 10PM from November 8th through December 24th. Old Star Wars Trading Post Once you’ve arrived in Disney Springs, you’ll want to use the My Disney Experience app to enter a virtual queue to meet Santa. You’ll be able to apply for spots in the virtual queue at multiple times throughout the day: 9AM, 11AM, 1PM, 3PM, and 6PM. You’ll receive a notification when it’s time to get in line. Note that the maximum party size is 10 people. Also, there is no standby queue: you must apply for a virtual queue spot to meet Santa. When you arrive, you’ll see signs that say where to enter the line. Enter here Because there is a virtual queue, you shouldn’t have to wait TOO long to meet the guy in red. Waiting in line Soon enough, you’ll be able to chat with Santa and tell him what you want for Christmas! You’ll also be able to get photos with him (because that’s what we’re REALLY here for, right?). Disney PhotoPass photographers are also on hand to get that perfect Santa photo for you. HI, SANTA Ho Ho Ho! The meet-and-greet is sponsored by Bauducco, a company known for its Italian sweets, such as biscuits and cakes. Each visitor will get a free sample panettone just for meeting Santa. Sweets AND Santa? SCORE! Free mini panettone You’ll also have an opportunity to buy some sweets to take home. Disney holiday merchandise is available, too! Disney merchandise is also available So if you’re visiting Disney Springs, be sure to make time to pop in to say hello to Santa! He’ll be there through December 24th (after that, well, you know, he’ll be a VERY busy guy). Stay tuned to DFB for more. 5. Disney hosted one of the biggest events of the year a few months ago, and we got a LOT of important information about upcoming projects. D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event took place in Anaheim back in August, and it was filled with a weekend of panels discussing upcoming movies, TV series, and theme park projects. It’s a great way to celebrate Disney if you’re a big fan, and it usually comes with some major announcements. If you’re already eager to get more important Disney news, then you need to know about a similar event happening soon! This upcoming weekend is a brand-new Disney event called D23 Brazil! This is the first time that Disney is bringing the fan experience to Latin America, and it will include “interactive experiences, exclusive shopping, and entertainment for all ages.” ©Disney D23 Brazil takes place on November 8th-10th in Sao Paolo at The Transamerica Expo Center and will feature excitement from all the Disney brands, including Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic. According to Disney, “Fans can expect a series of surprises and exclusive announcements during the event, including what’s new from Disney Experiences, previews of new releases from Disney Live Action, Pixar Animation Studios, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm, and 20th Century Studios, special guests and interactive experiences.” ©D23 | Pics from the D23 event earlier this year. The event will feature a main stage where presentations and panels take place, an exhibit hall with displays from various parts of the Disney company, and smaller stages where you’ll find fan offerings and entertainment. And if this weekend is anything like the D23 event in Anaheim, we might be getting some big news! Marvel merchandise at D32: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event This could be the first time we see sneak peeks of new films or TV series, and it’s a great chance for Disney to announce updates on what’s going on with the theme parks. So we’ll be tuned in for any news and we’ll make sure to share announcements directly with you guys as we learn about the future of the company! 7. Flying to Disney World is about to get a lot more difficult, depending on which airline you typically choose. Be aware of travel advisories! Budget airlines are becoming increasingly popular as folks are looking to still go on vacation without totally breaking the bank. But, one budget airline is going through a bit of a rough patch — and its pilots have just voted to authorize a strike. Allegiant Air pilots have voted to authorize a strike action if the airline cannot reach a fair agreement, the Teamsters union told Reuters. The union represents 1,300 pilots of the budget air carrier and said that 97.4% of the Allegiant Air pilots voted to authorize the strike. ©Allegiant Airlines “Allegiant pilots are some of the most overworked and underpaid in the airline industry,” the union shared in a statement. The pilots are seeking industry-standard compensation and improvements to scheduling. The union and Allegiant are in mediation sessions being conducted by the federal National Mediation Board (NMB). Allegiant at Sanford Airport “Allegiant remains committed to negotiating in good faith,” the carrier said in a statement emailed to Reuters and added that it offered pilots an average increase in hourly wages of 50%, with an average 70% increase over five years. “Additionally, we have offered a significant increase in retirement benefits, long-term disability, and extensive scheduling and quality of life improvements,” Allegiant added. Allegiant As of now, the strike has only been authorized and isn’t in place just yet — but Allegiant does fly into Orlando International Airport (MCO) near Disney World, so it’s possible that future flights could be impacted. It’s unclear how much of an impact a pilot strike would have on Allegiant’s air service to Disney World and elsewhere, but it stands to reason that some services would be impacted. Allegiant If a strike does end up happening, we’ll be sure to keep you updated on what that might mean for your trip to Disney World, if you fly Allegiant Air often. 8. Disney World is a complex park. With all its rides with various levels of technological advancements, the different dining locations all across the resorts are all functioning at the same time, not to mention all the different shops, hotels, and everything in between. EPCOT That means that there’s a lot of issues that can happen throughout the day. We expect to see some issues happen here and there, it’s nearly impossible for a day to pass without any sort of issue to happen. However, recently there was a MASSIVE issue that happened in EPCOT that, while rare, could happen on your vacation — here’s how to get around it! On November 5th, in EPCOT, rope drop came and went at 9AM with hoards of people still stopped at the front gate. We were among them, wondering what was happening, especially as we realized wait times were showing on our My Disney Experience App. Everyone waiting patiently to get in What we found out was that there was a technological issue at the tap points of the front gate — yes, each and every one of them — that was preventing guests from scanning their tickets to get into the park. Since Disney World uses both a scanner for your ticket and a fingerprint scanner to verify the ticket is yours, it was impossible to let anyone into the park without the system working. Entrance to EPCOT The delay lasted about 20 minutes, and only then were guests being let into the park from the front gate. This essentially means that guests who had planned on a solid rope drop strategy had their first precious 20 minutes taken from them. And while that doesn’t seem like a lot, it can certainly wreck your plans and allow for longer lines to build up, since in this case, guests were being allowed to enter from the back entrance of the park, the International Gateway. EPCOT Crowds Again, while this issue is rare, it can happen, along with various other technical issues around the parks, so what should you do if it happens to you? First of all, be patient. Everyone around you is in the same boat, and pushing and shoving to get to the front, or getting angry with fellow guests or Cast Members, is not going to fix anything. In fact, you might even attraction the attention of security and not get to enter the park at all if your behavior is that poor. Mexico Pavilion at EPCOT Secondly, this is why we always say it’s important to have a Plan B, C, and D. If Plan A has an issue, you’ve got another plan right behind it to follow instead. Make sure your party is well aware of the different plans or ideas you have, that way you can all prepare for the potentially different scenarios. The good news is that if you’ve got a dining reservation or a Lightning Lane reservation that you end up late for due to an issue on Disney’s part, you can chat with the ride or restaurant and politely explain what happened, and oftentimes, you’ll still be let in the restaurant/on the ride. (However, for dining reservations, we do recommend calling Disney to let them know ahead of time so they don’t give away your table!) EPCOT Of course, if you’re inside a Disney World park and you notice there are lots of issues taking place, you can choose to park hop to a different park if you’ve got a park hopping ticket, or can choose to check out some nearby Disney hotels by taking a bus or go to Disney Springs, both of which are free. We know, it’s not ideal, but if being in a park with more issues than normal is going to cause you more stress, it may be best to remove yourself all together for a short while. Crowds in EPCOT We’re always here to bring you the latest Disney World news and help you plan your vacations, so stay tuned to DFB! 11. Disney World has a TON of souvenirs to choose from on your Disney vacation. Spaceship Earth We bet there is a souvenir in the parks for everyone. Of course, we’ve seen different trends in the merchandise, like millennials and Gen Z buying the Disney friendship bracelets. But we think the Boomer generation are the ones buying this obscure Disney souvenir and you might even be getting it from them for Christmas. DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. There’s only one place you’ll find this item on Disney property and it’s inside the Germany pavilion. So let’s head in and see what it is our grandparents are loving. Germany Pavillion We’re looking for a Weihnachtsgurke. Don’t know what that is? Don’t worry, we’ll talk you through it. It’s a Christmas pickle! For many families, Christmas morning starts with a hunt for a pickle ornament, deemed the Christmas pickle, on the tree. The first person who finds the pickle gets the first gift, and bragging rights until next Christmas. Germany Christmas tree Most people are under the impression that ye olde Christmas Pickle is a German tradition. Its name alone seems like a pretty dead giveaway, doesn’t it? However, according to The New York Times, the Weihnachtsgurke is all but unknown in Germany. A German polling agency found that 91% of people had never even heard of it. So how did it make its home in the Germany pavilion? And what’s the meaning behind the pickle? Pickle Ornament Story According to Southern Living, there are a few different myths. According to one legend, it was inspired by a German-American soldier who was taken prisoner during the Civil War. Starving, he begged a guard to give him one last pickle before he died. The pity pickle gave him the mental and physical strength to live on. Another is in the 1840s, German glassblowers were churning out ornaments shaped like fruits, nuts, and possibly pickles. By the 1880s, F. W. Woolworth Company was importing them and telling their German origin story. Pickle Ornament So why do we think Boomers are buying up all the pickles? Well, simply for tradition. They can pass these on to their children and grandchildren for a fun way to celebrate the holiday season every year. We love the idea of this tradition even if there’s such a mystery around it! We’ve even spotted some of these pickle ornaments with Mickey ears and Santa hats on them. Christmas Pickle Ornament ©Amazon If you aren’t heading to EPCOT anytime soon, we found a pickle ornament you can get shipped straight to your home. We love that this has the story of the pickle inside of its box to help share the tradition. Shop on Amazon Want More Disney Deals? 12. We just got some important news about Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Disneyland Park! No more construction walls! The new ride is opening at Disneyland Park on November 15th, 2024, and we just got confirmation on how guests will be able to experience this new attraction. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Disneyland will be opening with a virtual queue in place. Just like in Disney World, the ride will be utilizing a virtual queue to manage demand. Additionally, we found out that Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will be available as a selection through the Lightning Lane Multi Pass Service. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Disneyland Disney announced that Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will have a virtual queue when it opens in Disneyland Park. This has become Disney’s go-to strategy for managing demand for popular rides. There are currently two other virtual queues being utilized at Disneyland Resort. Haunted Mansion Holiday in Disneyland Park and World of Color — ONE in Disney California Adventure Park both utilize a virtual queue. Sleeping Beauty Castle You can join the virtual queue for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at 7AM, 12PM, or 4PM (yep, you get three shots at it) on the Disneyland app. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will NOT have a standby line when it first opens. Your only two options to ride will be to get into the virtual queue or make a selection for the ride with the Lightning Lane Multi Pass service. The ride will be a selection through Lightning Lane Multi Pass, not an a la carte selection through the Lightning Lane Single Pass service. Lightning Lane Multi Pass The virtual queue for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is accessible via the Disneyland app. The queue will open at 7AM each morning and again at 12PM and 4PM later that day. You do NOT have to be in Disneyland Park to join the 7AM one, but you DO have to have scanned into the park to join the 12PM and 4PM queues. To join, open the app to the homepage and locate the virtual queue section. ©Disney On the app, after you’ve selected your desired attraction in the appropriate park, under “Join Virtual Queue,” you’ll find a button that says “Confirm Your Party.” Once you hit that button, the app will find the people who are linked to your account. You’ll select each person that you want to add to your party, and choose “Confirm Party.” Then you will want refresh and select “Join Virtual Queue” to join the queue right at 7AM, 12PM, or 4PM. Note that virtual queues open at exactly those times, and they can fill up within SECONDS, so you really want to be ready exactly on time. If you’re in the app before 7AM hits, you may need to refresh your screen at 7AM. Construction progress in Disneyland — late-May 2024 If you’re successful in joining the queue, you will receive a boarding group. Disney calls boarding groups back in sections, and once your group is called back, you’ll receive a notification from the Disneyland app telling you to head back to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. You’ll have one hour to return once your group is called. The app will give you an idea of when your boarding group may be called back, but the estimated time is likely to change. Over the past 77 years, Toys for Tots Marines and volunteers have distributed an astounding 677 million toys to over 301 million children, making the holidays a little happier, one gift at a time. This year, it’s easier than ever to give the gift of happiness: Online: Donate a toy from the comfort of your home! Just visit DisneyStore.com/ToyDrive now through December 24, 2024. Visitors to the Cotino Sales Studio can take part by dropping off a new, unwrapped toy during regular business hours. 22. Although we love it when Disney announces all the new experiences and attractions they’ll be bringing to their parks, it can be a pretty big bummer when we hear about permanent closures. Magic Kingdom And starting in early January, permanent closures will be taking place over at Disney World. Here’s a look at some experiences that will be disappearing forever. Animal Kingdom will be experiencing not just one, but THREE total closures taking place on January 13th, 2025. All these closures will be taking place inside of DinoLand U.S.A. and our hearts truly hurt for our Dino friends. TriceraTop Spin Our days of being able to fly above the air while aboard a dino are numbered as TriceraTop Spin will be a part of the permanent closure. TriceraTop Spin TriceraTop Spin is a family-style ride that lifts you off into the air, very much like Dumbo, except on an awesome dinosaur. But soon, this ride will be no more, so make sure to catch the last flight before January 13th! Fossil Fun Games The fun carnival games you can find over at Dino-Rama will be no more, so if you’re hoping to grab one of the dinosaur plushies as a prize, you should do so soon! Fossil Fun Games Fossil Fun Games is inspired by classic boardwalk games and has guests whack dinosaurs, squirt targets, toss “comets” and more. This area is also home to the only photo booth inside of Animal Kingdom! Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures And last but not least, Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures will also be seeing their last day on January 13th. Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures This whacky souvenir shop is designed to look like a whacky roadside gift shop serving up retro vibes and dino fun. Inside you can purchase apparel, accessories, plushes, and more, including vouchers to play the Fossil Fun Games. Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures These closures are a part of the Tropical Americas expansion coming to Animal Kingdom. This expansion will bring attractions themed after Encanto and Indiana Jones. Construction begins soon after the closures and is set to open in 2027. Although these attractions in DinoLand U.S.A. are set to close, Dinosaur, the Boneyard, Restaurantosaurus, Dino-Bite Snacks, and Trilo-Bites will remain open for the time being. Dinosaur in Animal Kingdom Although we are extremely torn up about these closures, we’re also excited about all the new and incredible changes that are coming to Animal Kingdom.
