  2. It’s a wonderful day! We get to say three of our favorite words: NEW DISNEY PERK. That’s right — something new (well, it’s actually an OLD perk, but it’s officially back!) just arrived at Disney World’s Value Resorts, so if you’re staying at places like Disney’s All-Star Resorts or Disney’s Pop Century Resort, you need to listen up. Disney’s Pop Century Resort Starting NOW, Disney just debuted an exciting (FREE) hotel perk. When it’s time to check out of your Disney hotel, you can send your bags straight to the airport without the hassle of visiting the bag drop-off counter at Orlando Airport. Here’s how it works! There’s a NEW PERK available now, but this perk comes with a lot of caveats. This service is still in early testing mode (Disney is calling it a “pilot service”), so look out for additional updates throughout the year. But, for now, here’s how to qualify for Disney’s NEW Airport Luggage Transfer. The luggage assistance desk! If you are staying at a Disney Value Resort hotel, you can drop your checked baggage off with Luggage Assistance. This allows your bags to be delivered directly to your flight. At this time, this service is ONLY available for Southwest Airlines flights departing from Orlando International Airport. Have your luggage ready! This is a HUGE perk for Disney World hotel guests — you can save a LOT of time at the airport! Disney suggests that at the beginning of your stay, you should check in at your Disney Value Resort hotel and call or visit Luggage Assistance to take advantage of this service. It is also recommended that you leave your inbound Southwest Airlines tags on your bags. NEW PERK! On the day before your departure, check in for your Southwest Airlines flight online. Once checked in, you can drop off your bags at Luggage Assistance in the hotel lobby area by the required drop-off time (more on that in a second). You will need to provide a valid form of photo identification and show your boarding pass to drop off your bags. You can also call Luggage Assistance from your hotel room phone to ask for help with your bags. Disney’s third-party service takes care of the rest! Once your bags are collected and sent to the airport, you can track your luggage with the Southwest Airlines app. All that’s left is to head to the airport, skip the check-in line, hop on the plane, and pick up your bags at baggage claim when you arrive at your destination. BEWARE! The line could be LONG! OK, so when can we drop off our bags? Well, it depends! Disney strongly encourages you to drop off your bags the night before departure. But if you need your bags a little longer, here is the official bag drop breakdown: If you are flying before 1 PM: Drop your bags off by 1 AM the night before your flight If you are flying after 1 PM: Drop your bags off at least four hours before departure or no later than 1 PM (whichever comes first) Note that the Luggage Assistance desk is open to receive luggage from 5 AM to 1 AM. There’s a QR code with more information! As a recap, to qualify for Airport Luggage Transfer, you must: Be staying at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort, Disney’s All-Star Music Resort, Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort, Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, or Disney’s Pop Century Resort Have a return flight with Southwest Airlines Fly out of Orlando International Airport Provide a valid form of photo identification and a boarding pass when you drop off your bags Keep in mind that this service does NOT include luggage transportation from the airport to your Disney hotel. Orlando International Airport We’re hoping that if this pilot service is successful, Disney will open it up to other hotels and add additional airlines. For now, though, it seems like this test is only available for Southwest Airlines flights. We’ll be sure to let you know when we learn more! This is a FREE service, which makes it a HUGE perk for people staying at Disney’s Value Resorts. 3. If you are flying to Orlando International Airport (MCO) for your Disney World vacation, you will want to follow these unspoken rules. Orlando International Airport Disney adults, there is a lot to navigate when flying to Disney World. Between delayed flights, airline issues, and more, there are ways to make traveling easier. There are obvious airport rules to follow when flying, but we came up with 4 Disney adult-specific rules at MCO. 1. Skip the Disney Store There are two Disney Stores located at Orlando International Airport, but you are not going to want to head straight for these when you land. Instead, we suggest looking here for any last minute gifts you might have forgotten to grab before your flight leaves for home. Orlando International Airport’s Terminal C We have sometimes found otherwise sold-out merch at these stores. If there’s something you were looking for during your trip that you couldn’t find on your trip, check here. You might get lucky and find exactly what you need. Disney Store 2. Have Your Transportation Booked There are several ways you can get to your Disney hotel from Orlando International Airport. You can take a shared shuttle like Mears Connect or use a rideshare service like Uber or Lyft. If you are traveling to Disney by yourself, Mears Connect is the most stress-free, cost-effective way to get there. You will have to book this in advance to ensure your ride, and give them your flight and hotel information. Mears Connect If you are traveling with a party, rideshare services like Uber and Lyft are often the best option. Splitting the fare between multiple people makes it pretty affordable, and you get the convenience of going directly to your hotel without waiting for a shuttle to fill up. You can actually schedule these in advance as well through whichever rideshare app you want. Orlando International Airport I’ve Used Every Airport Transportation Service to Disney World — This One Wins Every Time 3. You Don’t Need To Wear Your Minnie Ears You don’t need to wear your Minnie Mouse ears through security and onto your plane. We know you are excited for your Disney vacation, but avoid the ear headache as long as you can. Instead, opt for a Disney shirt or Loungefly bag, which will still let everyone around you know how much you love Disney World. Minnie Ears 4. Bring a Treat With You One of my favorite things to do is grab a Disney snack or two for the plane ride home. It makes it a little bit easier to leave the most magical place on earth. If you have the Disney Dining Plan, this is a great way to use up any leftover snack credits as well. You can purchase any of those packaged snacks you’ll find throughout Disney World, including gummy worms, pretzels, cookies, and more. Snack Wall You can also grab something from the bakery case to bring home to a friend (even if “friend” is really you — we aren’t judging!). This can even be a cookie from Gideon’s Bakehouse. Grab something that will bring you some happiness on your flight home, although we can’t guarantee no one will ask you to share. Sweet Treats While these aren’t rules you HAVE to follow, we hope they make your travels easier next time you are at Orlando International Airport. For more tips, be sure to follow DFB. 4. Is Disneyland lacking? The Disneyland esplanade — from here, you are feet away from everything Disneyland has to offer! The Disneyland resort doesn’t require the kind of transportation needed at Disney World, thanks to its more compact nature. Still, it boasts ample transportation with an effective bus system, trams, a limited monorail, and the Disneyland Railroad (if you want to count that). Still, Disneyland has one glaring transportation issue that doesn’t seem close to being fixed. The Disneyland Resort is fairly walkable in its entirety. Walking between Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure takes about a minute or less. Walking between the Disneyland esplanade to EVERY Disneyland Resort hotel takes less than 10 minutes. The Downtown Disney District is LITERALLY seconds from both theme parks. With this in mind, transportation is limited at the resort. However, that doesn’t mean we couldn’t use MORE. Disneyland Monorail If you’re traveling around Disneyland Park and don’t want to walk, your best bet is the Disneyland Railroad, which has a station at nearly every corner in the park: Main Street, U.S.A., New Orleans Square, Mickey’s Toontown, and Tomorrowland. ©Disney If you want to get from Tomorrowland all the way to Downtown Disney and vice versa, just hop on the Disneyland Monorail. The Monorail If you want to go between Disneyland and Disney California Adventure? You’re making that trip by foot or ECV. There is no vehicle that will get you between the parks. In fact, now that the Red Car Trolley has been discontinued, there is no longer any mode of transportation within California Adventure to get you from the front of the park to the back. Goodbye, Red Car Trolley Therein lies the problem: California Adventure lacks viable transportation. A quick ride on the monorail from Disneyland to California Adventure could be a game-changer — especially if the station took you into the heart of California Adventure. Disneyland Monorail With DisneylandForward underway, Disneyland will be undergoing a massive expansion over the next decade that could include possible new modes of transportation. Could we see the monorail expand or the creation of something similar to Disney World’s Skyliner? One could hope, especially if that transportation extends into California Adventure. Concept Art ©Disney for DisneylandForward We’ll keep you posted if any transportation projects are announced. 5. From beautifully handcrafted, vibrant costumes to the lively, traditional sounds of goombay drums and brass instruments, young people from across The Bahamas recently celebrated Junior Junkanoo with their schools and communities. This year, Disney Cruise Line is proud to expand its support of Junior Junkanoo to help preserve this special tradition for generations to come. For several years, Disney Cruise Line has been the primary sponsor of Junior Junkanoo Eleuthera, where Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point opened last summer. This year, Disney Cruise Line was also the title sponsor for the return of Junior Junkanoo to the island of Abaco, where Disney Castaway Cay is located. Junkanoo is a longstanding Bahamian cultural tradition celebrated with vibrant costumes, joyful dancing and energetic music. Junior Junkanoo introduces young Bahamians to the Junkanoo tradition while creating a pipeline for young Bahamians to join Junkanoo celebrations in their communities in the future. To prepare for Junior Junkanoo competitions, students spend several weeks choreographing dances, practicing traditional instruments and creating costumes and parade floats out of materials like cardboard and crepe paper. “Like most of our Bahamian cast members, I grew up enjoying the sights and sounds of Junkanoo, and it’s an honor to support the event and help inspire young people to continue to celebrate and pass on the tradition,” said Joey Gaskins, regional public affairs director, Disney Cruise Line. “Beyond Disney Cruise Line supporting Junior Junkanoo programs with funding, we want to empower students across The Bahamas to use their creative skills and pursue their dreams.” Junior Junkanoo Celebrations in Eleuthera Since 2022, Disney Cruise Line has sponsored Junior Junkanoo in Eleuthera, helping to fund costumes, materials and prizes for each participating school, as well as travel costs for the winning team to compete at the national level. Over the weekend, students performed along Queen’s Highway, transforming Governor’s Harbour into a thriving community celebration. For the first time, cast members from Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point had the opportunity to join in on the celebration. In previous years, Disney Cruise Line hosted virtual workshops for students across Eleuthera, connecting them with the Disney entertainment team to collaborate on their Junkanoo costume and parade float designs. The students shared stories about Junkanoo traditions with their Disney mentors, while their mentors shared ideas with the young artists to help inspire creativity. Last year, the students had the unique opportunity to work with and learn from acclaimed Bahamian Fashion Designer Theodore Elyett, who designed Bahamian-inspired outfits for Mickey and Minnie Mouse and their friends to wear at Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point. “Disney Cruise Line has been a dedicated supporter of our efforts to ensure the preservation of the Junkanoo tradition in our schools and communities,” said Clara Young, family islands activity coordinator, The Bahamas Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Culture. “Our students continue to look forward to this celebration each year, and their creativity and enthusiasm to celebrate their culture is truly inspiring.” Walt Disney Imagineers drew inspiration from Junkanoo to develop Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, which opened in June 2024. At the destination, guests from around the world can see local Junkanoos perform as part of Rush! A Junkanoo Celebration at Disney Lookout Cay. Families who visit Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point can also participate in workshops to learn about Junkanoo and how to create a costume from local Bahamians. Disney Sponsors Return of Junior Junkanoo in Abaco In Abaco, Disney Cruise Line supported the community’s return of Love Rush Junior Junkanoo as the title sponsor this year, covering costs of costumes, transportation and prizes. “Seeing the children of Abaco come together to proudly celebrate our beautiful Bahamian culture with their schools and classmates was very special,” said Candi Stubbs-Dawkins, family islands activity coordinator, The Bahamas Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Culture. “We are grateful for Disney Cruise Line’s support and for their commitment to helping our community, especially our children, celebrate this tradition.”   Investment in Youth Programs Disney Cruise Line is committed to investing in programs that support local youth and creating lasting, positive impacts in the port communities it calls home. Recent efforts include: Working closely with school leaders to identify and donate critical needs of local schools, such as supplies and books.   Providing funding to support career exploration programs and job shadowing opportunities for students through Junior Achievement Bahamas.  Teaming up with love.futbol and the community of Eleuthera to design and build playgrounds and sports spaces for kids to enjoy. Collaborating with the Agricultural Development Organization to build backyard gardens at the Ranfurly Homes for Children in Nassau and at several Bahamian schools, including Patrick J Bethel High School in Abaco, last month. Supporting University of The Bahamas’ Leading Light Programme, facilitated through UB’s Continuing Education and Lifelong Learning (CeLEARN) and funded by Disney Cruise Line, which provides college-level hospitality and leadership training for residents of Eleuthera at no cost.  Sponsoring the LJM Maritime Academy scholarship program and summer camp as well as inviting students aboard Disney ships to learn about careers in the maritime industry.  Joining forces with the Bahamas Feeding Network to organize and pack meal kits to support families across its port communities in Nassau, Abaco and Eleuthera.  Visiting local schools during the holidays to spread magic by donating Disney-themed toys and surprising students with a special visit from Mickey Mouse. To learn more about Disney Cruise Line news and community initiatives, visit DCLNews.com or Disney Cruise Line Crew & Community on Facebook. For more than 25 years, Disney has introduced countless families to the beauty and spirit of The Bahamas and has provided significant economic impact while demonstrating a strong commitment to the environment and the community. Approximately 70 percent of the cruises offered by Disney have at least one stop in The Bahamas, all six of its ships are registered in The Bahamas and it is estimated that DCL operations contribute more than $70 million toward The Bahamas gross domestic product annually. 6. Are you planning on taking a Disney Cruise in the future? Disney Magic Cruise Ship There is a lot to prepare for in advance, and you might be thinking through some problems that could arise on your trip. You might be worried about getting seasick while on the ship. You might be worried about the weather and what to do if a hurricane is coming. We are here to help put your mind at ease. Before we get into the details, Small World Vacations’ services are 100% free and can help you book your Disney Cruise, as well as arrange special accommodations that you might need onboard the ship, find cruise line deals, and discuss your travel insurance options with you (so you feel confident in whatever decision you make. Unfortunately, life happens, and so does Mother Nature — even on your Disney Cruise. So if there is a storm, your cruise could be impacted by that. If it is a milder tropical storm, your cruise might not be canceled, instead, you might receive a whole new itinerary. We’ve seen this happen before. A cruise will have a scheduled stop at a certain port of call, but instead of docking, the ship will have to skip over the port entirely. The ship might move onto a full day out at sea to keep everyone safe and out of the storm’s path. Disney will send out emails with more information to travel agents and cruisers to keep passengers updated on the storm situations at hand. The Disney Magic In situations where a hurricane might be approaching, cruises can be canceled. If a cruise is cancelled, guests will receive a full refund. We have also seen that Disney will even offer an added discount on your next cruise for the inconvenience. If your cruise does get cancelled, you’ll also need to check out the cancellation policies for your airfare, hotel, rental car, etc., because they can all be different, depending on the company. Disney Dream at Castaway Cay This is also a reason you might want to get some travel insurance before your trip. Disney has its own Disney Cruise Line Vacation Protection Plan that you can tack onto your cruise line expenses, which can help cover your money in case of a trip cancellation, delay, medical emergency, or lost baggage. If you want our advice, we suggest discussing your options by reaching out to a professional travel agent, like Small World Vacations! 7. Disney World is filled with some of the best rides and attractions, and it can be hard to fit all of them into your park day, especially the newer rides with the longest waits. One way to make sure you get on your favorite rides is to grab a Lightning Lane Multi Pass. Let’s talk Lightning Lanes Lightning Lane Multi Pass helps you skip the standby queue of attractions, shortening your wait time by potentially hours. Since you can make multiple passes a day, which attractions should you aim to grab first before the rest sell out? Let’s talk about it. Lightning Lane Multi Passes are available for most attractions throughout all four parks. Each park has its most popular passes, which you should aim for first. 1. Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure At EPCOT, Remy’s is the first to fill up! This attraction, located in the France Pavilion, takes you through the kitchen with Remy and his friends. Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure rider entrance Other popular options might be Frozen Ever After and Soarin’ Around the World, but if you’re interested in riding Remy’s, this should be the first pass you take. 2. Slinky Dog Dash Over at Hollywood Studios, this family-friendly coaster is usually the longest wait of the entire park! You’ll climb aboard Slinky Dog and zoom throughout Toy Story Land, which is great for a kiddo’s first roller coaster. Slinky Dog Dash If Slinky is on your list for the day, pick this Lightning Lane first, followed by Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run, and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. 3. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure This is Magic Kingdom’s newest attraction and is still so popular. This water log ride continues the storyline of The Princess and the Frog with great music and stunning animatronics. It’s located in Frontierland, right by Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure As the newest ride, it tends to fill up fast, so you should aim for Tiana’s first. Other attractions to consider are the Jungle Cruise, Peter Pan’s Flight, and Space Mountain. 4. Na’vi River Journey In Pandora at Animal Kingdom, Na’vi River Journey takes guests on a mystical boat ride into the glowing rainforest. This ride features one of Disney’s most impressive animatronics. Hello, Shaman! Another popular pass to pick up at Animal Kingdom is Kilimanjaro Safaris, which allows you to see different types of safari animals! You might be a little surprised by this list because you might be wondering about the ultra-popular rides like Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and Flight of Passage. Those rides are available through Lightning Lane Single Pass, which you can buy individually. According to Universal, the attraction will see visitors “surrounded by horror like never before, encountering unimaginable monstrous creatures lurking around every corner as they brave their way through four themed immersive areas and four terrifying haunted houses.” One of the four houses will be a new take on Scarecrow: The Reaping, a popular house that has been featured in both the Orlando and Hollywood versions of Halloween Horror Nights. The new Vegas presentation will be “inspired by the historic Dust Bowl era when severe dust storms devastated the Midwest, this original story will take guests back in time to a dry, barren 1930s farmland ravaged by farmers and taken over by horrifying inhabitants arising from the land: bloodthirsty scarecrows bent on revenge. As guests start their journey in the middle of a windstorm before entering an abandoned farmhouse, they’ll encounter the monstrous and gigantic creatures made of remnants of dried human flesh and bones of beasts, merged with burlap, root and vine, with only one mission at hand – obtain vengeance for their ravaged land.” ©Universal The in-depth horror theming will extend to the complex’s food and drink offerings, with several themed bars and food locations. One of which will be Jack’s Alley Bar. The bar will be themed to Horror Nights icon Jack the Clown, and feature specialty-themed cocktails and acrobatic performances in a “circus-like hellscape” environment. According to Universal, once guests enter the “twisted dark carnival atmosphere” they’ll “face Jack’s evil maniacs and a group of malicious jugglers, dancers, and fortune tellers as terrifying chaos ensues during interactive show moments. Each immersive area will place guests in the center stage of horror, with many opportunities to interact with characters for a deeply engaging experience.” ©Universal Tickets for the Universal Horror Unleashed attraction, which opens August 14th, are on sale now. 11. Magic Kingdom is packed with places to eat, but not all restaurants are created equal. Magic Kingdom If you’re looking for a sit-down meal at Disney World’s most iconic park, you’ve got options—but which one is actually worth your time and money? Today, we’re ranking the top five sit-down restaurants at Magic Kingdom in reverse order, counting down to the best of the best. Let’s dig in! 5. Plaza Restaurant The Plaza Restaurant, located near the end of Main Street, is one of the most overlooked sit-down spots in Magic Kingdom. It’s small, cozy, and serves up classic American comfort food. The Plaza Restaurant! The menu changes frequently, but longtime favorites like Plaza Fries and their famous ice cream sundaes tend to stick around. If you’re craving a sit-down meal that won’t break the bank, this is a solid choice. Full spread at Plaza Restaurant Pro tip: If you just want ice cream, you don’t need a reservation—just head next door to the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor! Pros: Cozy, classic vibes Accessible menu for picky eaters Amazing ice cream selection Cons: If you’re only here for dessert, just go to the ice cream parlor No characters or big theming Can feel cramped during busy times Overall: 8/10 4. Crystal Palace Crystal Palace is the only character dining spot on this list, featuring Winnie the Pooh and his Hundred Acre Wood pals. The buffet-style meal offers a variety of options, including carved meats, roasted veggies, Walt’s favorite chili, and plant-based dishes like curry. Crystal Palace Compared to Cinderella’s Royal Table, it’s more affordable ($61 per adult for lunch/dinner, or $48 for breakfast) and offers a wider variety of food. Entree plate Plus, you can still catch a view of Cinderella Castle from the restaurant’s large windows. Pros: The only place to meet Pooh and friends Large buffet selection Easier to book than Cinderella’s Royal Table Cons: Still pricey Limited options for strict plant-based eaters No princesses or castle theming Overall: 8.5/10 3. Liberty Tree Tavern / The Diamond Horseshoe Yes, we’re putting two restaurants in one spot, but there’s a reason. Liberty Tree Tavern in Liberty Square and The Diamond Horseshoe in Frontierland serve the same all-you-care-to-enjoy menu. Liberty Tree Tavern If you love Thanksgiving food, this is your spot. The menu features roast turkey, pot roast, oven-roasted pork, mashed potatoes, stuffing, mac & cheese, and the iconic Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake. Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake at Liberty Tree Tavern For $42 per adult, it’s one of the cheaper family-style meals at Disney, but it’s also a lot of food. If stuffing yourself with Thanksgiving dinner in a hot theme park doesn’t sound appealing, you might want to reconsider. Pros: Comfort food lovers, this one’s for you Two locations = better reservation availability Good value for an all-you-care-to-enjoy meal Cons: Really heavy food for a theme park day Not very adventurous Limited plant-based options Overall: 8.5/10 2. Columbia Harbour House Columbia Harbour House in Liberty Square is technically a quick-service restaurant, but hear us out—it still deserves a spot on this list. This New England-inspired eatery serves up solid portions of seafood favorites at a great value. Columbia Harbour House For about $15, you can get the Trio Platter with fried shrimp, chicken strips, battered fish, hush puppies, and a side—making it one of the best deals in the park. The Lobster Roll and New England Shrimp Boil are fan favorites, too. Columbia Harbour House Full Spread Pro tip: Head upstairs to the second floor for a quieter dining experience and some solid people-watching views of Liberty Square. Pros: Affordable and filling A must-visit for seafood lovers Quick service that still feels like a sit-down meal Cons: Not great for non-seafood lovers Gets really busy No characters or heavy theming Overall: 9/10 1. Skipper Canteen Skipper Canteen in Adventureland is the clear winner, hands down. This Jungle Cruise-themed restaurant isn’t just a meal—it’s an experience. The Skippers (your servers) bring their signature pun-loving humor to the table, and the menu is full of adventurous, globally-inspired eats. Skipper Canteen You won’t find basic theme park food here. Instead, you’ll get dishes like Falls Family Falafel, Nile Nellie’s Noodle Bowl, Hardy Har Char Sui Pork, and the Mess Hall Fried Rice. And don’t forget to ask about the secret menu—yes, it’s a thing. Skipper Canteen in Magic Kingdom If you’re someone who enjoys trying new flavors and appreciates Disney’s deep storytelling, this one’s a must-visit. However, if your picky eater is searching for burgers and fries, you might want to head elsewhere. Pros: Jungle Cruise fans will love it Great for adventurous eaters Typically easier to snag a reservation Cons: Might be too adventurous for some No character dining Takes more time than a quick-service meal Overall: 9/10 At the end of the day, Magic Kingdom has some solid sit-down dining options—but Skipper Canteen takes the top spot for its unique menu, immersive theming, and hidden menu surprises. 13. Disney World is constantly changing! Art of Animation! Disney recently dropped tons of announcements, including changes to Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, the opening date for two new Hollywood Studios shows, and more! Among those announcements was a major change to several Disney resorts, but it won’t last forever! Find out if you will experience the exciting new offering while it’s around. This summer, select Walt Disney World resort hotels will be able to enjoy even more Disney-themed activities for families with kids! Not only that, we will also be seeing scheduled character meet and greet times at the same resorts, which is a major plus to your trip. Art of Animation Lobby Not every Disney resort is getting in on the fun, though! These special activities are only available at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney’s Pop Century Resort, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, and Disney’s Wilderness Lodge during the summer. In the past, Disney character appearances at resorts have been seen as rare, magical moments because they happen so infrequently. Character Meet and Greet sign at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort We recently saw official times for meet and greets pop up at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort, and we were super surprised. This resort news coincides with other family fun Disney has shared that will also be available this summer. From May 27th until September 1st, Disney shared that families should “be on the lookout for limited-time experiences perfect for young kids in the theme parks, including kid zones featuring new activities and fun ways to interact with more Disney characters.” Mulan These new areas include pop-up entertainment offerings, music and dancing, games, and “other adventures to help your little ones make those core Disney memories.” Disney specified that certain areas of the parks, like Tomorrowland and Storybook Circus in Magic Kingdom, would have the new kid zones. Over in EPCOT, Goofy will be taking over CommuniCore to host the “ultimate game party.” CommuniCore Hall This seems like the ultimate summer to be a kid in Disney World! If you’re ready to start booking but don’t know where to start, consider using Small World Vacations! They have years of Disney planning and experience to help make your vacation even more magical without all of the stress. They’ll keep you updated on the Disney parks news you need to know about before you go see Mickey. The Disney Destiny | ©Disney The Disney Destiny will take its maiden voyage on November 20th with 4- and 5-night cruises to The Bahamas and Western Caribbean during its inaugural season. Disney has revealed that the ship will be themed to heroes and villains, which means you’re bound to meet a lot of characters onboard the ship. Well, now we have confirmation of at least nine characters you’ll run into on the Disney Destiny. 16. Do you live in Florida and are planning to visit Disney World? Magic Kingdom Well, first, those of us who DON’T live in Florida are a little jealous (do you blame us?) because you’re so close to The Most Magical Place on Earth. But also, Florida residents often get great deals on Disney World tickets. Well, we’re here to remind you about a Disney World ticket deal for Florida residents that is set to expires soon — so you’ll want to make sure you take advantage of it. For a limited time, Florida residents can purchase a 4-Day Discover Ticket for disney World for $60 pre day per tax ($240 plus tax for all four days). You can also grab a specially-priced 3-day ticket. The ticket is valid from January 13th through May 23rd, so you need to grab them ASAP. Pandora in Disney’s Animal Kingdom You can also add on to the ticket. The Park Hopper option is $40 more per ticket, while the Water Park and Sports option is $35 more per ticket. You can also get the Park Hopper Plus Option for $55 more per ticket. So if you have plans that go beyond the theme parks, you might want to check that out, too. ©Disney Keep in mind, though, that these are NOT date-based tickets, meaning you will still have to make a park pass reservation for each park you want to visit. However, you can use the ticket on consecutive AND non-consecutive days, which could come in handy if you live close enough to visit the parks whenever. 17. Disney World is full of pricey snacks and drinks, so when we find a deal that actually feels like a steal, we HAVE to talk about it! Disney’s Hollywood Studios If you’re planning a trip to Disney’s Hollywood Studios and love a good martini, there’s one drink flight you absolutely shouldn’t skip. So let’s talk about it and why it’s one of the best values in the park. The Hollywood Brown Derby’s Martini Flight is not only delicious but also one of the best values in the park. At just $19, you get to sample three different martinis, and let us tell you—these aren’t just tiny sips. They’re strong, flavorful, and totally worth it. Hollywood Brown Derby The Martini Flight includes three different drinks: the Derby Vodka Martini, the Derby Gin Martini, and the Pomegranate Martini. Each of these brings something unique to the table, so whether you’re a classic martini fan or prefer something a little sweeter, there’s something for you in this flight. Martini Flight First up, the Derby Vodka Martini. This one was our personal favorite! Made with Grey Goose Vodka and Dry Vermouth, it’s garnished with a lemon twist that adds just the right amount of brightness. It’s smooth, strong, and super drinkable. Derby Vodka If you’re someone who enjoys a traditional vodka martini, you’ll definitely appreciate this one. Plus, let’s be honest—when you’re in Disney, you sometimes just need a no-nonsense drink, and this is exactly that. Next, we tried the Derby Gin Martini, made with Nolet’s Dry Gin and Dry Vermouth. Gin lovers, this one is for you. It’s got that unmistakable gin flavor that a good gin martini should have. Derby Gin It’s strong, refreshing, and, of course, comes with an olive garnish—because what’s a martini without an olive? This one isn’t for the faint of heart, but if you’re a gin fan, you’ll be more than happy with it. Finally, we finished things off with the Pomegranate Martini. This drink takes things in a sweeter direction, featuring Absolut Citron, Pomegranate Liqueur, and Cranberry Juice. If you enjoy fruity cocktails, this will likely be your favorite of the bunch. It reminded us a lot of the Cosmopolitan that used to be included in the flight, but with a slightly fresher, fruitier twist. The pomegranate gives it a light, tangy sweetness that makes it really easy to drink. Pomegranate Martini One of the best parts about this flight is that it lets you try a variety of martinis for about the same price as ordering just one full-sized cocktail elsewhere in the park. Disney drink prices can be wild, so getting three solid drinks for $19? That’s a win in our book. Plus, this flight balances classic flavors with more modern twists, making it fun whether you’re a longtime martini drinker or just testing the waters. Martini Flight If you’re in Hollywood Studios and looking for a solid drink option, the Martini Flight at Hollywood Brown Derby is 100% worth checking out. Whether you sip them slowly or share with a friend, this is one of the best drink deals you’ll find in Disney. 22. You might think you’ve mastered the art of drinking around the world at EPCOT — that is until your last hour in the park. EPCOT Let’s say you’ve had an incredible day sipping margaritas in Mexico, enjoying a crisp beer in Germany, and maybe even splurging on a fancy cocktail in France. But as you prepare to take one final leisurely lap around World Showcase with your last drink in hand, you’re hit with an unexpected problem: You can’t leave the park with alcohol. Here’s why this rule exists and what you need to do to avoid wasting your pricey beverage. The “No Booze Beyond This Point” Rule Disney has some strict policies when it comes to alcohol, and one of the big ones is that drinks cannot be taken outside of the park. That means if you’re finishing up your day and still have a drink in your hand, you either need to chug it or ditch it before heading to the exit. Grand Marnier Orange Slush So, if you thought you could sip that last drink on your way to the monorail, Skyliner, or the Disney bus to your hotel — nope. Cast Members will kindly remind you that alcohol must be finished or thrown away before you leave EPCOT. Why Does Disney Have This Rule? Disney doesn’t do anything without a reason, and this rule is no exception. The main factors are liquor laws and maintaining a certain atmosphere. State Alcohol Laws – Florida’s alcohol laws prohibit carrying open containers of alcohol in public spaces outside of licensed areas. Since Disney is privately owned, they can control where alcohol is consumed within their property, but once you leave EPCOT’s gates, you’re stepping into a different jurisdiction. Maintaining the Disney Image – Disney works hard to keep its parks feeling family-friendly. Allowing guests to take drinks onto the monorail, buses, or the Disney Skyliner could lead to a much rowdier atmosphere — something Disney wants to avoid. Preventing Overindulgence – EPCOT is already famous for “Drinking Around the World,” and let’s be honest, some guests take that challenge a little too seriously. The last thing Disney wants is for people to leave the park carrying multiple drinks (or worse, getting sick in a very public setting). Key Lime Wine Slushy What Should You Do If You Have a Drink in Hand? So, you’ve found yourself in this situation—what now? Here are your options: Finish It Before You Leave – If you’re near the exit and still have half a margarita left, your best bet is to find a bench, take a breather, and enjoy the last sips before heading out. Just don’t overdo it — drinking too quickly can turn a fun day into a rough night. Time Your Last Drink Wisely – The best way to avoid this problem is to plan ahead. If you know you’re leaving soon, maybe skip that final cocktail or make sure you get it with enough time to finish before heading to the exit. Skip the Last Drink Altogether – If you’re rushing to make transportation or just don’t want to deal with the hassle, it might be best to call it quits on the drinks before your final hour in the park. Your wallet (and possibly your stomach) will thank you. Blackcurrant Gin Cocktail The Bottom Line EPCOT is one of the best places to enjoy a variety of drinks, but the magic stops at the park gates — literally. If you’re not careful, you might end up throwing away a perfectly good (and probably expensive) drink simply because you ran out of time. So, plan ahead, pace yourself, and remember: When it comes to alcohol at Disney, what happens in EPCOT stays in EPCOT. In the meantime, stay tuned to DFB for all the latest from Disney. 24. If you ever needed proof that dreams really do come true, Disney Dreamers Academy at Walt Disney World Resort was the place to be last week! And I was lucky enough to witness some truly magical moments during the five-day mentoring program aimed at helping high school students to dream big. One of the most memorable moments involved two students who are aspiring filmmakers, Sydney Gilmore and Zane Stevenson, who got the surprise of a lifetime. They’re heading to California for a behind-the-scenes experience on ABC’s hit show Abbott Elementary. They’ll get to see how TV magic happens up close, learning straight from the pros. And guess who delivered the news about the trip? Abbott Elementary star Tyler James Williams himself! Now that is next-level cool! Over at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, I got to see even more magic—this time, in the middle of a safari ride. Picture this: a group of teens who are obsessed with animal science, cruising through the Harambe Wildlife Reserve, getting up close with giraffes, crocodiles and flamingos. Now, add a Hollywood star to the mix—not just any star, but Kelvin Harrison Jr., the voice of Taka/Scar in Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King. Yep, a guy who literally voices a character from a movie about a safari, taking these students on a real one. Talk about a full-circle moment! If you haven’t heard of Disney Dreamers Academy, let me fill you in—it’s a five-day mentoring program at Walt Disney World where 100 students from across the country get inspired, motivated and hyped up by celebs, educators, business execs, and community leaders, all with one goal: to supercharge their dreams. The commencement ceremony on Sunday of the event is pure Disney magic. Think beloved characters, high-energy performances, bursts of colorful confetti, and a class ring presentation so emotional it had students, parents, and chaperones reaching for tissues. Total tearjerker—in the best way possible! At commencement, Colin Sproles was named Dreamer of the Year! Chosen by his fellow Disney Dreamers and judges, he earned the top honor for his leadership, kindness and fearless dream-chasing. And the best part? Winning the award means he’s getting flown back to Walt Disney World for a family vacation—plus setting sail on an unforgettable Disney Cruise Line adventure! And just when the students thought the surprises were over – boom, more magic! Alex Onwuli will head to Washington, D.C., for an educational trip with National Geographic. Tristan Williams will experience weightlessness in the Zero-G Astronaut Experience (imagine literally floating in mid-air!) And Charlie Arnold will continue the journey of being a filmmaker with a private tour of Dolby Studios in Hollywood, California.  So, if you ever find yourself wondering whether dreams really do come true, just ask these Disney Dreamers. They’ll tell you: 100% yes. And sometimes, they even come with a surprise visit from your favorite TV star. I walked away feeling inspired—and already counting down the days until next year’s Disney Dreamers Academy! 25. Hi, it’s me! And I’m going to Disneyland! Disneyland That should come as no surprise because if you’ve read a lot of my posts, you’ll know I love Disneyland. Now, I live in the Midwest, which means I have to fly to Disneyland, and let’s just say that’s never been an easy feat. Although there are plenty of airports to choose from in the area, it’s certainly not as simple (or as cheap) as booking a flight to Orlando International Airport like you do when you go to Disney World. However, thanks to finding a cheap flight via Google Flights, I’ve discovered a NEW airport to fly into that’s close to Disneyland: Long Beach Airport. Now for locals, this may not be a secret, but those of us coming to Disneyland from out of town, we usually only think of two options for flying to Disneyland: John Wayne Airport in Anaheim (SNA), which is the closest airport to Disneyland, and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), which is generally the cheapest. Now, I did look at flights to LAX, but I would rather have a dentist pull all my teeth without an anesthetic than fly into LAX. It’s HUGE, it’s chaotic, and it’s always crowded. I loathe that airport with the burning hatred of a thousand suns. ©AEcom I usually opt for SNA in Anaheim, but for this trip (which happens during Season of the Force because STAR WARS!), flights from Memphis (my home airport) to SNA were SUPER expensive. We’re talking in the $500+ range. I have no idea why, but that’s a lot more than I paid two years ago to fly to that airport. So let’s just say I was looking for other options. ©John Wayne Airport So I started researching other nearby airports and my search turned up Long Beach Airport. Color me intrigued. I looked up prices, and lo and behold, they were much cheaper than flying into SNA. So then I looked at the airport’s distance from Disneyland, and it’s only about 30 miles from Disneyland, just a little bit further than SNA. Of course, I was skeptical, so I turned to Yelp, and to my SHOCK, this is one of the FEW airports that has almost all 5-star reviews! Say what? ©Yelp So what did I learn from reading these reviews? Well, first, this airport is small. Small airports are AWESOME, y’all. Like I love our small Memphis airport, but this one seems to be even smaller. In fact, it’s so small that there aren’t walkways that run from the airport itself to the planes — no, you have to exit the plane via its steps like a celebrity arriving at a private airport on a private jet. Don’t think I’m not going to put on my shades and do a Princess wave on my way down those steps, y’all… ©Long Beach Airport Because this is such a small airport, Yelp also informed me that security usually only takes about 5-10 minutes. I don’t need my TSA PreCheck because you just basically breeze through security. That means less time waiting in line PLUS you don’t have to get to the airport 3-4 hours early like you would at LAX (did I mention how much I hate LAX yet? I have? Well, let me mention it again…). ©Long Beach Airport Anyway, here’s an idea of just how small this airport is: ©Long Beach Airport So, yep, the flight is booked, but here’s a quick note: it is nearly impossible to get a nonstop flight to anywhere from Memphis at a decent price, so yes, my Disneyland flight does have a connection in Phoenix going to and Houston coming back. I’m used to this, although I know a lot of people hate connecting flights. I take connections as an opportunity to stretch my legs and get some food and drinks. I also learned that most of the flights coming and going from Long Beach are Southwest flights. I booked my flight before Southwest decided to get rid of free checked bags, and my trip takes place before that goes into effect, so WHEW. However, I still need to have some words with Southwest Airlines, and I know I’m not the only one. ©Long Beach Airport I leave in about a month and I’ll be back with photos and a review of the airport. However, Long Beach Airport looks perfectly charming and very stress-free, and I’m actually looking forward to visiting an airport. So stay tuned to DFB for more!
