  1. If there’s anything we stress as a priority, it’s that you should consider always rope dropping Magic Kingdom. Cinderella Castle First, Magic Kingdom has more rides than all the other parks in Disney World, so you’ll need more time there. But, also, rope drop could get you a ride on a popular ride with a shorter wait — and all you have to do is get up a little earlier and be at the park when it opens. However, if you rope drop Magic Kingdom NOW, you might find that it’s changed. Let’s talk about how it’s different. So what IS rope dropping? Rope dropping refers to the actual rope that Cast Members use to close off lands when you’re allowed into Magic Kingdom before it officially opens (which usually happens about 30 minutes before the official opening time). Although you’re allowed to visit shops and grab food and snacks on Main Street, U.S.A., you do not have access to the park until official opening, which right now is at 9 AM. Therefore, you must wait for the rope to Tomorrowland and Fantasyland to “drop” at exactly 9 AM. Then you can start getting in line for rides. Cast Members at Magic Kingdom entrance However, some Disney World visitors have a distinct advantage. If you’re staying at a Disney World hotel, you qualify for Early Theme Park Entry. Early Theme Park Entry means you can not only enter a theme park 30 minutes before opening, but you also have access to ride select attractions in Tomorrowland and Fantasyland 30 minutes before the park officially opens. Usually, there’s a Cast Member at the ropes on the bridges to both lands checking resort guests’ MagicBands and tickets. Rope drop crowds So what’s changed? Well, if you qualify for Early Theme Park Entry, you can go directly to a ride and get in its line even if it doesn’t open early. For example, TRON Lightcycle / Run does not open until 9 AM (with the rest of the park), but you can still get in line for it during that 30 minutes before the park opens. Considering the popularity of this ride, this gives those with Early Theme Park Entry a distinct advantage of being first in line for the ride. TRON Lightcycle / Run opens at 9 AM We also learned that Early Theme Park Entry visitors are actually allowed to even get their things put in lockers at the ride at about 8:45 AM BEFORE TRON Lightcycle / Run officially opens. So you could technically use Early Theme Park Entry to get in line for TRON, have your stuff stored by 8:45 AM and be among the first to ride it when it opens at 9 AM. Granted, this means that the rope drop line for this ride is going to be long even before the park officially opens, so this might not be the best use of rope drop if you don’t have Early Theme Park Entry. TRON Lightcycle / Run line at rope drop We spoke with a Cast Member who told us this had been going on for about a week, so if you plan on using Early Theme Park Entry or rope drop in Magic Kingdom, you’ll want to keep this in mind. 2. There is a lot happening in Disney World right now! EPCOT We are getting a major Magic Kingdom expansion, Hollywood Studios has two new shows coming soon, and Animal Kingdom just said goodbye to an opening day attraction for a new attraction coming this year. Not only are the parks changing, the prices are too which normally means a price increase. That’s why we were so shocked (and thrilled) that it somehow got cheaper to eat at one of our favorite EPCOT restaurants! EPCOT has some iconic attractions but if we’re being honest, it’s really known for it’s food and drinks! The EPCOT Festivals, Drinking Around the World, and EPCOT snack staples have solidified it in the world of theme park food and given us several of our favorite Disney dining spots. EPCOT One of our favorite spots in EPCOT is Takumi Tei in the Japan Pavilion! This spot is considered a Signature Fine Dining Experience in Disney World (think along the lines of Victoria and Albert’s) so it’s a pretty pricey spot. That being said, we are huge fans of this sit-down dining experience! Takumi-Tei This dining experience offers 2 omakase menus starting at $250 — until now. For a limited time, you can get a $150 semi-course for both the Omnivorous Course and the Plant-based Course! For a Disney Signature dining experience, we think this is a great deal. Hassun For the Kiku option, the sem course includes 34 items. The Ichijyu-Sansai is sea bream sushi with kombujime, pickled radish, egg york vinegar, and chives. It also has deep-fried tofu with white miso broth and salted cherry blossom and seared bonito with ponzu jelly, chopped chives, and shiso flower. Ichijyu-Sansai Next is the Hassun which is 8 crafted selections. The Shii-Zakana is an option for wagyu steak with a selection of alternative sides and finally, the Gohan-Mono is included. It’s simmered A5 Wagyu chirashi-don with shichimi served with red miso soup or bluefin tuna and homemade pickled white radish chirashi-sushi with chopped shiso leaf and wasabi served with red miso soup. That wagyu! For the Hasu menu (the plant-based semi-course), you get 4 items as well. The Ichijyu-Sansai is temari sushi made of spinach, pickled radish, and egg yolk vinegar with eep-fried tofu, white miso soup, and salted cherry blossoms. There is also wakakusa sesame tofu accompanied by salted cherry blossoms and dark soy vinegar jelly. It also includes Hassun with the same description as above and Shii-Zakana. The Shii Zakana is vegetable tempura and carrot chips, mini zucchini, pumpkin, white mushroom, and hajikami. Menu Finally, the Gohan-Mono is vegetables with chirashi sushi, soy sauce jelly, and white sesame seeds. It’s also served with red miso soup. We have been impressed with this restaurant each time we’ve stopped by so we are excited to see this more affordable menu (compared to the original) for a limited time! Gohanmono Online Disney shared, “Chef selections may include seasonal sashimi, crafted hassun, prepared inaniwa udon noodles, deep-fried tofu, mini zucchini tempura and more.” If you want to enjoy this spot on your next vacation but don’t want to worry about the stress of these hard-to-get reservations, consider using a travel agent! We highly recommend Small World Vacations to help you with all of your Disney planning needs (and the might be able to save you some money along the way!) It’s a great way to make your vacation even more stress free. When it comes to Takumi Tei’s new menu, Disney didn’t give a date as to when this semi-course will go away. We personally hope it’s successful enough that it sticks around for a while! As always, keep following DFB for all of your Disney planning tips and tricks. We’ve Eaten at Every EPCOT Restaurant. 3. Could the Power Rangers be making their return to Disney? @flickr // Disney Dan || The ‘Power Rangers’ in Hollywood Studios You may remember (or wonder if you made it up in your head) that the Power Rangers used to meet at Hollywood Studios. While the Power Rangers may have left the park in 2010, there are currently talks to bring a live-action Power Rangers series to Disney+! Here is what we know so far! According to a report from The Wrap, “showrunners Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz (who are also the showrunners for the Diney+ series Percy Jackson and the Olympians) are in talks to write, showrun and produce a live-action Power Rangers series for Disney+ and 20th Century TV.” Season 2 of ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians will stream on Disney+ later this year. This report states that Hasbro will produce the series. If you are unfamiliar with the Power Rangers, they originally debuted on a TV show in the ’90s called Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, which took inspiration from the TV show Super Sentai. The Power Rangers are known for their bright-colored costumes and masks. The franchise was so popular that the Power Rangers eventually got their own film series. @flickr // Disney Dan We wonder if this news means that the Power Rangers could return to Hollywood Studios once again. We will just have to wait and see! As previously mentioned, they are only in the beginning stages of getting the show greenlit, so we will be on the lookout for any more news regarding the Power Rangers’ future. 6. Magic Kingdom is about to look completely different! Magic Kingdom Disney World’s original park has seen many changes in the recent years including the addition of TRON Lightcyle / Run, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, and an overhaul to the Country Bear Jamboree. Even more changes are on the horizon as the Magic Kingdom expansion progresses with the addition of Villains Land “Beyond Big Thunder Mountain” and the Cars expansion on Tom Sawyer Island. While construction has yet to start on the Cars expansion, Disney recently shared new details about this new area of the park! As a refresher, Tom Sawyer Island along with the Rivers of America are set to close to make way for a brand-new Cars expansion that will feature two new rides. With this new addition, Tom Sawyer Island, the Tom Sawyer Island rafts, the Liberty Square Riverboat, and The Rivers of America are all set to close this year, although no closing date has been announced. 7 Disney World Rides That Will Permanently Close in 2025 Tom Sawyer Island When this expansion was announced at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event back in August of 2024, Disney shared some concept art of the land along with the “Rally Race” attraction. At D23 in Brazil, we got to see some clips of Imagineering testing the potential “track” for the attraction. ©Disney Well now we have even more Cars expansion details! Earlier this month, Disney shared some of its new projects at SXSW (South By Southwest). One of the projects that they showcased was the new Rally Race ride coming to the new Cars area. Imagineers took a trip to Arizona to take a ride in some real off-road vehicles to help provide some inspiration. They then worked with a motocross company to build a dirt track and work on creating the new ride vehicles. ©Disney Imagineers want to make this ride as realistic as possible, so they are using a customized production vehicle with sensors all over to gather data on how it feels to drive on varying terrain while the ride is in its development phase. Just like Radiator Springs Racers in Disney California Adventure, you will get to ride in a car that has their own personality, except these cars are ready for a spin off-road! ©Disney Along with the concept art of some of the new cars, Disney shared the 3D model that they have been using, otherwise known as a “3D Sketch.” One of the Imagineers working on the project, Michael Hundgen, said that, “Our primary goal is creating an emotional experience for our guests. For this Cars attraction, we need to invent a new type of ride vehicle. No one builds these in a factory because it has to do so much more than just carrying you from one place to another. We have to create a car that conveys a feeling when you ride in it.” ©SXSW Along with what is to come to Frontierland and Tom Sawyer Island, Disney also shared looks at Avengers Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab which are two new attractions coming to Avengers Campus in Disney California Adventure. ©Disney We are so excited to experience and explore all these new projects when they open! 8. Ooh, we DO love a secret menu item, especially when we finally get IN on the secret. Of course, we’re bad with keeping secrets, so we’re always going to share those secret menu items with you. Frontera Cocina in Disney Springs For example, we won’t stop telling you about the cheese bread, aka the Pao de Queijo, at Skipper Canteen in Magic Kingdom — you just have to ask for it! We’ll also remind you about the Christmas Pudding dessert you can ask for at Rose and Crown Dining Pub. Well, we’ve got ANOTHER secret menu item to tell you about — a secret MARGARITA. 10. Do you know about this rule of what NOT to do during an emergency on an airplane? Flying Southwest While you’re in preparation for your next trip to Walt Disney World, you might want to be aware of what you shouldn’t do in case of an emergency (which hopefully never happens)! According to Business Insider, an American Airlines jet recently caught fire shortly after landing at the Denver airport. Everyone seemed to have evacuated just fine, with 12 of the 172 passengers on board getting sent to the hospital with minor injuries. A photo caught the evacuated passengers standing on the wing of the plane, with their bags in their hands. ©Business Insider They might not have been aware at the time — but they were breaking one of the MOST important safety rules! Flight attendants explain before take-off that carry-ons MUST be left behind in the event of an emergency. This is to make sure of a quick evacuation process. It is a federal regulation that everyone must evacuate a plane during an emergency in 90 seconds. Southwest Cabin Geoffrey Thomas, an aviation expert, previously stated to Business Insider, “You’ve got to get all the passengers out in 90 seconds. Now, we’re seeing evacuations taking six and seven minutes because passengers insist on taking their bags.” Be safe when traveling It has been proven that attempting to get your bag when evacuating, can be life-or-death in certain situations. According to Business Insider, a Russian airliner crash-landed and caught fire in Moscow, killing 41 of the 78 passengers and crew, in 2019. Many of the survivors were seen with their bags in hand, which aviation experts believe stalled evacuation. Luggage On the flip side, when a Japan Airlines jetliner collided with a smaller plane on the Tokyo runway, all 379 (5 times more than that of the Russian plane) survived. Aviation experts believe part of the reason was because passengers ditched their luggage. Window seat When you take your next trip to Disney World, make sure you remember this rule, as it can be life saving during an emergency. 12. I’ve been going to Disney World for over 30 years, and by this point, you’d think I’d have done pretty much all there is to do. Mickey would be disappointed in me. But, you would be wrong. I was lucky enough to grow up close enough to Disney World that visits were pretty frequent in my childhood, and that tradition has continued into my adulthood. In spite of all of this, there are still plenty of things around the parks, hotels, and beyond I’ve yet to do — so I’m spilling my secrets. I’ve been to Disney World hundreds of times, but that still doesn’t mean I’ve seen it all, done it all, or eaten it all there! There are quite a few things I still haven’t done, but these are (from what I’m told) the most egregious things I’ve never done. And, before you come for me in the comments — I fully plan on crossing most of these off of my Disney World To-Do List! Seen Mickey’s PhilharMagic I know, I know — don’t get me wrong, it’s not that I don’t WANT to see PhilharMagic in Fantasyland, it’s just that when I’m at Magic Kingdom, I am on a MISSION. And, that mission often doesn’t include seeing this — or any — show at this park. To tell you the truth, Magic Kingdom is my least favorite park these days (lookin’ at you, TTC) and so when I’m there it’s to simply do the essentials. Mickey’s PhilharMagic Of course, the essentials to me are Joffrey’s Shakin’ Jamaican Cold Brew, Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, Carousel of Progress, and Cheeseburger Spring Rolls. Not necessarily in that order. Eaten at Cinderella’s Royal Table Cinderella’s Royal Table has been around almost as long as I have — but I’ve still never eaten there! This kind of goes back to my whole Magic Kingdom point, but still, dining in Cinderella Castle is something we pretty much always recommend people do on their trip. Cinderella’s Royal Table But, here at DFB, we don’t necessarily love the food at CRT — it’s pretty expensive and not our favorite overall. The vibes here are immaculate, though, and that’s why we recommend it! It’s hard to beat dining in the actual castle with Princesses there to hang out with you! Been on Kali River Rapids I must admit — I’ve never been on Kali River Rapids at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. This river raft ride is located in the Asia section of Animal Kingdom, and while this park has quickly climbed the ranks and become one of my favorites, Kali River Rapids could fall into oblivion and I wouldn’t even bat an eye. Sure, I don’t want to yuck anyone else’s yum, but let’s be real here — is this anyone’s favorite Disney World ride? HARD PASS This applies to most water rides, but Kali River Rapids is no doubt the worst offender at Disney World. And, as you might have guessed — this is the one thing I truly don’t have a desire to do. Done the Animation Experience Taking the Wildlife Express Train to Rafiki’s Planet Watch at Animal Kingdom is one of my favorite things to do at this park. This peaceful 7-minute ride through Animal Kingdom includes scenes of backstage areas you can’t see when you’re in the park, and then you end up at a hidden oasis — complete with Conservation Station, petting zoo, and veterinary office! Animation Experience Also offered here is the Animation Experience at Conservation Station, which is when a real Disney animator teaches participants to draw a Disney character. When you’re done, you’ll have a unique souvenir that YOU MADE to take home with you. And, while it’s an incredibly underrated thing to do — I’ve still never done it! Been to Hoop-Dee-Doo Disney’s Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue takes place at Fort Wilderness’ Pioneer Hall and is an extravaganza of food and entertainment that the whole family will love. Seriously, it’s hard not to have a good time here from what I’ve seen. And, despite how badly I’ve been wanting to experience it, I still never have! The timing just hasn’t been right for this one to work out for me, but hopefully it does some day soon. Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue Don’t worry — these are absolutely on my Disney World To-Do List! Well, except for Kali River Rapids since you couldn’t PAY me to ride that one (though if someone wants to try, I’m willing to entertain offers). Maybe you’ll catch me at Cinderella’s Royal Table or watching PhilharMagic one day! In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for more updates from Disney World. 13. Spring has sprung in Disney World! The EPCOT Flower and Garden festival is happening NOW and we’ve already spent some serious time sampling ALL the food booths at the festival. Beach Club Marketplace Now, Easter and spring snacks are arriving all over Disney World — and we’re ready to indulge in things with Peeps on them and things shaped like bunny butts. Now, two new treats that don’t fall into those categories have arrived at Disney’s Beach Club Resort, so let’s head on over there and try them out. These new treats can be found at Beach Club Marketplace. The first is the Carrot Cake Cupcake with Cream Cheese Buttercream, Chocolate Cookie Crumbs, and Spring Sprinkles for $5.99. We’ll start this review by stating that we think many of Disney World’s cupcakes are basic. Well, this is NOT a basic cupcake. It’s a nice, light, and moist carrot cake with no weird things in it (like raisons or big shavings of carrots). It’s nicely spiced, too. Carrot Cake Cupcake Of course, the BEST part of carrot cake is that cream cheese frosting and the frosting inside this cupcake is DELICIOUS. The frosting on top is a standard buttercream, though. We will recommend grabbing a fork as this can get a little messy — the green frosting will probably stain your fingers and teeth. That filling is EVERYTHING You can also pick up the Painted Egg Whoopie Pie, made with Cinnamon Sponge Cake with Maple Buttercream Filling topped with Pastel Chocolate and Springtime Sprinkles for $5.29. This one ALSO surprised us. We thought this would be plain and bland, but it’s got a delicious vanilla bean flavor, both in the cake and filling. The texture is nice and springy, too. Painted Egg Whoopie Pie However, those sprinkles are going to fall off so you’ll just have to deal with that when you try to eat it. It might seem like it would be super sugary, but it’s not — it’s lighter than the cupcake. It’s also a pretty good size, so it’s potentially shareable. It’s HUGE So if you happen to find yourself over in the area, be sure to grab one of these new snacks if you’re craving a fun spring treat. And stay tuned to DFB for more reviews. WE KNOW – there are SO many great snacks at Disney World! How do you choose (we don’t want to choose but will blow our budget on Day 1 otherwise)? We’ve got you covered! We have reviewed nearly EVERY snack available at Disney World, and we’ve written a series of DFB Guides about them! Check out our DFB Guide to Walt Disney World Dining + Snacks Bundle for all the details you need to plan your snackin’ and spending. 15. We have finally had a chance to see Universal Orlando’s new theme park, Epic Universe, for ourselves. ©Universal Although we couldn’t take any photos of everything we got to see and do, we still got to experience it, and let’s just say SO much of the new park really surprised us. However, one of our favorite lands could be How To Train Your Dragon — Isle of Berk. Now, we got to ride the rides and see the sights (the dragons!) and we’re ranking those experiences. Hiccup’s Wing Gliders Yes, we already have a favorite ride in this land and it’s Hiccup’s Wing Gliders. This ride puts you on a wingled contraption designed by Hiccup to send you flying into the air where you’ll encounter Hiccup and Toothless along the way. It’s a little bit of a longer coaster, but it’s such a smooth ride, and we loved it. ©Universal Y’all…this ride is FUN and one of our top three rides in ALL of Epic Universe. This one will be worth the long waits. 6 Things That SHOCKED Us on Our First Trip to Epic Universe Hiccup and Toothless Meet and Greet Is this the most popular meet and greet in all of Epic Universe? Well, probably, but who doesn’t want to meet Hiccup and Toothless? This is a chance to get up close and personal with both (especially Toothless) and get THE photo of the trip. ©Universal We’ve been blown away with just how good and immersive the meet and greets in Epic Universe really are, and this one will not disappoint fans of the How To Train Your Dragon movies. The Longest Line at Epic Universe Is NOT for a Ride Fyre Drill Okay, we know water rides aren’t everyone’s thing, but on those hot Florida days, might as well get soaked while having fun, right? The idea behind Fyre Drill is that the Viking twins, Ruffnut and Tuffnut, have transformed Berk’s Fyre Skööl into a wet interactive boat battle. Once you board your ship, you will blast your water cannons at flame-like targets…and other boats. ©Universal Let’s just say it’s impossible not to get wet on this ride, but we can imagine this ride is going to be SUPER popular come summer. CONFIRMED: The Locker Rule You Need To Know About at Epic Universe The Untrainable Dragon In this new show, a new dragon has shown up on the Isle of Berk. This new dragon seems untrainable, although that doesn’t stop Hiccup and Toothless, along with Gobber and Astric, from trying to figure out what’s going on with this new dragon species. ©Universal This show is a real kid-pleaser, although we enjoyed it, too. There are dragons, battle sequences, and even baby dragons. It’s a super likeable show, although you go for the “wow” factor because we’re not sure that this would capture your attention over and over again. Dragon Racer’s Rally Hop on a Viking-made dragonriding trainer to practice aerobatic movements and barrel rolls on Dragon Racer’s Rally. Be warned, though: this ride is a LOT of work. We were disappointed with this ride because it looks super fun, but the wing controls are HEAVY and you have to really use some strength to get them to work. ©Universal We would imagine this would be even harder to work on a super windy day, but to do all those maneuvers, you’re going to have to use some strength because you have to keep the wings going the whole time. We Just Visited Epic Universe for the First Time EVER and We Have So Much to Tell You! Now this isn’t ALL this land has to offer — there are also restaurants, as well as the Viking Training Camp (which is a playground), but from what we got to experience, this is how we’d rank everything. We’ll be returning to Epic Universe, though, later and we’ll be sure to get you updated details on EVERYTHING, so stay tuned to DFB for more. It’s Official. 16. Heading to the airport can always be a bit of a stressful experience, but there are several ways to make your next trip out of Orlando International Airport (MCO) run just a bit smoother. MCO Airport While sometimes long waits at the airport can be unavoidable, when it comes to MCO, there are things you can do before your arrival to cut down the time you’ll be stuck at security or even waiting at your gate through a delay. These are some of the best tips to take advantage of before flying out of MCO. TSA PreCheck While TSA PreCheck is not exclusive to MCO, it’s the best place to start. For those unaware, TSA PreCheck is “an expedited screening program that makes risk assessments about passengers prior to their arrival at an airport checkpoint” which “enhances aviation security and provides a better travel experience.” Those eligible for the program include: U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents enrolled in TSA PreCheck. Members of Global Entry. U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents who are members of SENTRI. U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents and Canadian citizens who are members of NEXUS. Members of the U.S. Armed Forces including those serving in the National Guard and Reserves as well as government employees from select agencies. Cadets and midshipmen of the U.S. Military Academy, Naval Academy, Coast Guard Academy, Air Force Academy and Merchant Marine Academy. Passengers 12 and younger traveling with an eligible passenger. Passengers who are selected using existing Secure Flight system requirements while traveling on participating airlines. Security lines! Passengers enrolled in TSA PreCheck do not need to remove shoes, belts, compliant bags, light jackets/outerwear, and laptops from their bags and can take advantage of exclusive, quicker lanes at participating airports. MCO Reserve For those travelers who DON’T use TSA PreCheck, the Orlando International Airport, offers the MCO Reserve service, which “allows travelers to reduce stress by planning ahead and reserving a dedicated time slot for their party to go through TSA security screening.” ©Orlando International Airport On arrival at the MCO Reserve lane, flyers scan their MCO Reserve QR code and move directly to TSA to screen their boarding pass and ID, and then proceed through the standard TSA security screening, cutting a considerable amount of time form the process on most days. MCO Terminals A, B and C all have dedicated MCO Reserve lanes with a limited number of slots available each day, and travelers may book their time slot up to 7 days in advance. Screening times are available from 5:00 AM to 5:00 PM for flights departing between 6:30 AM and 8:30 PM. Check Online There are two ways you can cut down on MCO delays before even leaving for the airport! The airport’s website — flymco.com — provides official, real-time tracking date for both each terminal’s security checkpoints… ©MCO … as well as flight departure status. ©MCO Remember Your Real ID Beginning on May 7th, travelers flying domestically in the U.S. will be required to show a REAL ID-compliant license or accepted alternative in order fly. According to the Department of Homeland Security, the REAL ID law was enacted based on recommendations from the 9/11 Commission that the government “set standards for the issuance of sources of identification, such as driver’s licenses.” The Act established “minimum security standards for state-issued driver’s licenses and identification cards and prohibits certain federal agencies from accepting for official purposes licenses and identification cards from states that do not meet these standards.” ©Department of Homeland Security Those over the age of 18 who do not present a REAL ID-compliant license or any of those acceptable alternatives beginning on May 7th will “not be permitted through the security checkpoint.” Minors are not required to provide identification when traveling with a companion within the United States. 17. We finally got a first look at Universal Orlando’s new theme park, Epic Universe, and let’s just say our mind is STILL reeling from everything we saw. ©Universal Now, we weren’t allowed to take photos to share with you, but we’ve done our best to describe what we saw in the park’s five lands. However, mere words cannot truly capture how EPIC this new land really is, and we’ll be back eventually for more in-depth coverage of the park. For now, though, we’ve got some hot takes about the things that REALLY surprised us about Epic Universe — so let’s get into it. How family-friendly the park is Universal doesn’t necessarily have a reputation of being super family-friendly and a lot of rides are on the “thrill ride” end of things. However, we were surprised that most of the rides at Epic Universe were a lot more accessible to kids than we might have originally imagined. ©Universal Although some rides have a height requirement of 48 inches, many of the rides have height requirements of 40 inches, meaning younger kids will be able to enjoy more of the park than we might have expected. We were traveling with a 7-year-old and he got to ride a lot of attractions with us. CONFIRMED: The Locker Rule You Need To Know About at Epic Universe Just how immersive the theming is We’ve seen all the concept art and teasers Universal has thrown our way, but we were not prepared for the level of immersiveness we saw in Universal Orlando. This blows anything Universal has done previously out of the water. We were amazed at just how gorgeous Chronos Tower was, but the entirety of Dark Universe kept making us pick our jaws up off the floor with its gothic vibes. ©Universal Then there’s that incredibly details Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry queue. Everything in this new park has been carefully thought out to make you think you really are stepping into new worlds once you pass through its portal. We’re Spilling the Tea About the Queue for the NEW Harry Potter Ride at Epic Universe The character interactions We’re used to a certain level of character interaction because Disney has spoiled us. Well, we shouldn’t have worried about the interactions in Epic Universe because they are SPOT ON. We never expected to have memorable moments with the Bride, the Invisible Man, and Igor, but here we are. ©Universal Plus we’ve ALL seen those incredible photos of the Hiccup and Toothless character meet and greet, right? Epic Universe has quite literally knocked these interactions out of the park. The Longest Line at Epic Universe Is NOT for a Ride How good the food is Universal isn’t necessarily known for great food in its parks, but Epic Universe is about to change a lot of folks’ minds about that. Dining here really stands out with Oak and Star Tavern’s quick service spot offering barbecue-inspired meals that we had to admit was WAY better than Disney World’s Regal Eagle. We’ll also be dreaming of Mango Bread for the rest of our lives now. ©Universal We also really loved the exclusive Coca Cola Freestyle flavors like Screamberry in Dark Universe. Das Steakhouse just looked amazing and made us feel like we were inside Dracula’s Castle while the Burning Blade Tavern also wowed us with its atmosphere. We can’t wait to try more of the food in Epic Universe. It’s Official. This Is the BEST Thing to Eat at Epic Universe (So Far) Monsters Unchained surprised us We’ll admit that we had SUPER high expectations going into riding Monsters Unchained. HOWEVER, the ride ended up being a bit of a disappointment for us. Now, we have to say that the animatronics and effects are the ride are TOP-NOTCH. However, the storyline really loses focus throughout the ride. ©Universal This ride also had considerable downtime during the day we visited Epic Universe. We saw multiple evacuations of the ride, as well. Now, this is something that could improve by the time Epic Universe opens, but for now, it seems like there are still some kinks to work out. NEW PHOTOS: Take a CLOSER LOOK Inside All 5 Lands of Epic Universe You can’t do everything in a day There is so much to see and do and experience in Epic Universe that one day is just not going to be enough time. However, one day is about all anyone is going to get during any one vacation because of how Universal is selling tickets to the park: you can only get one day in Epic Universe. ©Universal This is going to be a case of having to prioritize what you want to get done in that one day and realize that you’ll probably not get to everything. You’re going to just have to miss some shows and rides. 5 Surprising Takeaways From My First Stay at the New Epic Universe Hotel So there are our unfiltered thoughts about things that surprised us in Epic Universe. We’ll be visiting again real soon to get you more details, so stay tuned to DFB for more. 19. As much as we’d like to pretend that real life doesn’t exist when we’re at Disney World, it still goes on. ©Disney And, when you spend as much time in Disney World as we do, you get pretty used to having your emotions run the gamut. Let’s be real, we all need a good cry sometimes — whether it’s a sad cry or a happy cry — and if you happen to be in EPCOT when that cry comes on, well, these are the best places in EPCOT to do it. We listen and we don’t judge — and that includes if we see you sobbing in EPCOT. If you need a good cry, here’s where you should do it! The Seas Pavilion We love the Seas Pavilion for a long list of reasons — one of which is that it’s air-conditioned, which can make a huge difference when it comes to sensory overload during the summer seasons in this park. The second reason is that it’s pretty dark in here — which makes it an excellent place to break down into guttural sobs. Inside SeaBase Aquarium We specifically appreciate the smaller aquarium exhibits on the first floor — they tend to be a bit less crowded than the larger tanks upstairs. Just park yourself in a corner and have at it. Seas Pavilion The Morocco Pavilion The Morocco Pavilion is simply beautiful, which means you can always blame your tears on that if you’re in a pinch. But, there are a couple of places in this pavilion that might interest you should you need to pay a visit to the crybrary (it’s like a library but for crying). There’s always the Fez House located in the front left of the pavilion, which can sometimes be empty and thus a good place to shed a tear — but it can get echoey in there. Fez House Your other option is in the back of the pavilion, in the bazaar area. This spot isn’t in the air-conditioning, but there are plenty of tables and chairs in the shade — and sometimes a sangria cart is nearby, too, which has been scientifically proven to help stop tears (just kidding, I’m not a scientist so for legal reasons that was a joke). We love it back here! The Shanghai Disney Exhibit The Shanghai Disney exhibit located in the China Pavilion is another great spot for a cry since it’s often empty — and once again, air-conditioned. Look, if you’re going to cry, doing it in the AC is definitely a plus. Inside Shanghai Disney Resort The only problem with this spot is that if there is anyone in there, it can get a tad awkward because it’s pretty quiet in here and you won’t be able to drown out the sound of your sniffling. But, hey, who cares? Feel your feelings, pal. Spaceship Earth You’ll be thanking the Phoenicians for being able to read — and for providing you with a safe space to cry on Spaceship Earth. Plus, who doesn’t want the sounds of their sobs to be narrated by Dame Judi Dench? We know we’d certainly enjoy that. With her support, we can do anything. But, Spaceship Earth is also great for crying because it’s a long, dark ride, and you’ll probably break down at some point for even more crying opportunities. World Nature This EPCOT neighborhood is home to multiple nice spots for when you need to call the wah-mbulance. There’s a little bench edge on one of the big planters where you can sit and face the Land Pavilion across the water. Great for crying. If people see someone there, they don’t really walk over because the pathway is a little narrow and there’s nothing but water in front of you so nobody can see you are crying, but you still get to be in daylight and fresh air while looking at arguably the best EPCOT pavilion and while letting it all out. It’s also usually pretty shady there most of the day so you weren’t sitting in direct sunlight, baking while you sob. Te Fiti as seen in EPCOT’s Journey of Water At the end of the day, if you’ve gotta cry — doing it in Disney World doesn’t seem like the worst thing. You can always cheer yourself up by going to meet Mickey or grabbing your favorite snack and riding your favorite ride! In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for more updates from EPCOT and the rest of Disney World. 21. It can be challenging to choose which airline to fly to Disney World. Orlando International Airport If you are like us, you may want to be prepared for every situation and pack all your Disney World essentials, such as your Minnie ears, rain gear, multiple pairs of comfortable shoes, first aid supplies, and more. It can feel like baggage rules and fees are getting stricter and stricter on airlines, and unfortunately, if you are flying on Southwest Airlines in the near future, it is about to get even harder to pack for your Disney World vacation. “Bags fly free” has been Southwest’s slogan and main pull since the airline was founded over 60 years ago. Passengers could check two bags for free and bring a personal item and carry-on on board. This was ideal for many travelers, as they could “pack it all” or not have to worry about not having enough room to bring a ton of souvenirs home with them. Southwest Airplane at MCO Unfortunately, Southwest is abandoning what made it stand out from other airlines and saying goodbye to its decades-long policy of free checked bags. This change came shortly after Southwest announced that it would be getting rid of its open seating policy and switching to assigned seats. “We’re Going to Take Advantage of That” — Spirit Airlines CEO Targets Southwest After Controversial Announcement While the assigned seating policy won’t start until next year, with tickets being sold in the second half of 2025, the baggage change is only about two months away. Beginning May 28th, 2025, Southwest will start charging flyers for their first and second bag (they always have charged for third and fourth bags). Southwest at Orlando International Airport There is an exception to this new rule, as some passengers will still be able to check their bags for free. When the rule changes, only Rapid Rewards A-List Preferred Members and customers traveling on Business Select fares will receive TWO free checked bags. A-list Members and other select customers will receive ONE free checked bag. If you are a Rapid Rewards Credit Card member, Southwest will credit one checked bag. Sunset on a Southwest plane We are sad that this change is about to take place, and we will miss stress-free packing when flying Southwest. If you still have travel booked before May 28th, 2025, you will still be able to check two free bags, so take advantage of it while you can! 5 Most Important Rules for Orlando Airport Transportation to Disney World Need help booking your dream Disney World vacation? 22. Lightning Lane rules have changed so much in the past few months, but we keep up with all the changes so you’re prepared for your upcoming trips! Lightning Lane Multi Pass pamphlet When Lightning Lane Multi Pass officially replaced Genie+, one of the things many people were excited about is that you can select three attractions up to three days in advance of your trip (or seven days in advance if you’re staying at a Disney World hotel). This is a great way to ensure you’ll get to skip the line at some of your favorite attractions, however, there’s something you might see Disney experts doing that has you scratching your head. We’re here to tell you it’s actually the BEST thing you can do for your park day! When you book your Lightning Lanes in advance, you may be tempted to book the three rides you’re expecting to fill up the fastest. For example, in Magic Kingdom this could be Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, Haunted Mansion, and Peter Pan’s Flight. While this is a great strategy, you should only use TWO of your Lightning Lanes to book those attractions. Pirates of the Caribbean Lightning Lane The other one? Find an attraction that’s usually a walk-on, we mean something like Mad Tea Party or Magic Carpets of Aladdin (again, if you’re in Magic Kingdom), and book it as early as possible for your third Lightning Lane. Why? Well because the moment you step into the park, you’ll run to that attraction to use it, and then you’ve got your third one open to begin booking another! Haunted Mansion This is especially important because for more popular attractions, their Lightning Lanes are often gone by around 11 AM, especially if it’s a busier time in the parks like spring break. This way, you know you’ve got two of your key attractions booked, you can use your third one almost immediately, and either book a decent time for one of the other popular attractions, or continue to knock out smaller attractions and totally bypass their low waits. Lightning Lane at “it’s a small world” Waiting 15 minutes for Under the Sea or The Barnstormer may not seem like a lot of time, and it’s not in the grand scheme of things, but saving 15 minutes on four different attractions by using a Lightning Lane means you’ve saved about an HOUR of waiting! This is especially important if you know you will be waiting in some longer lines later in the day. If you can save time earlier and NOT wait in lines, waiting in longer ones will feel more doable and less miserable if you don’t feel like you’ve been waiting in lines all day. Under the Sea — Journey of the Little Mermaid Choosing how to go about your Disney World day is entirely up to you and your group. Some will find that using Lightning Lane significantly improves their day if waiting in line is a struggle for them, while others who don’t mind it may find buying Lightning Lane to be a waste of money. 23. Universal Orlando’s newest theme park, Epic Universe, is almost open! ©Universal While the park does not officially open until May 22nd, 2025, park previews are currently underway for Team Members and their guests, and we were able to get a sneak peek! Before actually getting to experience the park for ourselves, we speculated that certain attractions would require a locker system to keep your belongings in while you ride. Well, we finally know how this system will work, and spoiler alert: it is different than the lockers we are normally used to at the other two Universal parks. While we were able to experience Epic Universe as part of a preview, photos and videos are still not allowed in the park. That being said, we will get to experience Epic Universe again before it opens and will be able to take photos and videos then, so make sure you stay tuned for that! There is so much to see and do in Epic Universe that on our first visit, we did not get to do it all, but that is okay; it just gives us another reason to come back again and again! This new theme park is home to five immersive themed lands, including Celestial Park, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic, SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, and Dark Universe. ©Universal We only experienced the locker rule in Celestial Park when we went to ride Stardust Racers, a dueling coaster reminiscent of Dueling Dragons. This coaster offers a smooth, thrilling ride with peaks, valleys, and celestial rolls. ©Universal Before boarding, we had to go to the locker area, which uses facial recognition rather than just scanning your park ticket (although the option to scan your park ticket is available). To get your locker, you will press a button, and then it will scan your face and take a picture of you. If you like the picture, you can submit it, but you also have the option to retake it or even cancel it. We Just Visited Epic Universe for the First Time EVER and We Have So Much to Tell You! ©Universal Then, in order to board the attraction, you will go through a metal detector to ensure all your belongings are stored safely in the locker area. Once you get off the ride, you will come back to the same locker station, tap the same button, and it will take another picture of you. Once it confirms your face, it will reopen your locker. ©Universal It indeed was a seamless experience, and we could not believe how easy and straightforward it was. This is not the only area of the park that utilizes this newer technology, as when we entered the park, we did not have to scan our ticket; instead, facial recognition was used. We can’t wait to go back and explore Epic Universe again, so make sure to stay tuned with us here at the Disney Food Blog! So wear the shoe covers during the rain and keep your feet nice and dry. Buy on Amazon Buy the FROGG TOGGS Poncho Frogg Toggs Poncho Ponchos certainly aren’t a fashion statement, but when it rains in Disney World, it can really POUR. Buy on Amazon Get the 4-Pack of Cooling Towels Cooling towels It also might not be stylish to wear a towel around your neck, but trust us, when you’re hot in Disney World, you are MISERABLE.
