  2. How many of you will be joining us this weekend for the Disneyland Half Marathon? Here’s your first look at some of the art that will appear on some of the most sought after event merchandise, including performance T-shirts, short and long sleeve T-shirts, hoodies, jackets, drinkware, hats, pins and more. A true fan favorite is, of course, the men’s and ladies T-shirts emblazoned with the “I Did It” message on it, with the course map featured on the back. As you know the “Dumbo Double Dare” is back! You’ll find plenty of merchandise, including men’s and ladies’ T-shirts in a variety of silhouettes featuring both the Dumbo Double Dare logo and the ever famous “I Did It,” along with a jacket, hoodie, sports bottle, keychain, headwear and car magnets. Other great selections will include runDisney performance T-shirts, shorts, a zip hoodie, headwear, sports bands, a magnet, cinch sak and my personal favorite, a runDisney Medal Holder. Want more? Because we have it! Keep an eye out for specially created Dooney & Bourke bags, trading pins, Vinylmation, drink ware and, of course, our “Coast to Coast” collection. If you’re looking to make any of these items part of your Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend experience or look, then I’d recommend you race to the Health & Fitness Expo at the Disneyland Hotel, as this merchandise will go fast. Good luck to everyone participating in this year’s event! 4. Both of my children returned to school in mid-August. Like many parents during this time of the year, I recently went shopping for their school supplies. Granted, the supplies needed for my college-age daughter are much different than the ones for my grade-school-age son. The idea of supply shopping, however, got me thinking about how to kids could show their Disney Side when returning to classes this fall. Luckily, I spotted a nice display in the Emporium at Magic Kingdom Park in Walt Disney World Resort that offered a few ideas. Located just inside the location, the small back-to-school display contained a handful of items including pencils, pens, supply boxes, and more. There were also a few backpacks that we offer at Disney Parks. I wish I had that Buzz Lightyear backpack growing up! After seeing the display, I spoke with the souvenirs team at Disney Theme Park Merchandise headquarters. They gave me a closer look at the newest erasers to arrive at Disney Parks. The mystery collector packs were inspired by other collectible merchandise such as Disney pins and Vinylmation. Each pack contains one eraser from a series of themed erasers with characters like Mickey Mouse and friends; Disney princesses; and characters from Disney Channel’s “Phineas and Ferb.” Some of the designs are shown on the packaging with one eraser design remaining a mystery in each series. The team also created new, foot-long erasers that have a colorful hidden Mickey Mouse icon in the designs. Finally, I love the new character erasers which stand about 4-inches tall. These incredibly detailed erasers are probably more decorative in nature; I wanted to display them on my Disney shelf in my office. Look for these items in select locations at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts. I want to wish all teachers, faculty and students an exciting and productive school year! 7. We finally got to head over and try the new menu at Le Cellier Steakhouse! Learn About: Le Cellier SteakhouseEpcot Restaurants Disney World RestaurantsYep, you heard me right. A new menu. And while the menu changes up regularly here now that it’s a Signature-restaurant-all-the-time-forever-always, we weren’t expecting the news that the beloved filet with mushroom risotto and truffle butter sauce was getting a makeover. As soon as we found that out, we had to make an ADR. And, yep — we ordered the replacement. Along with a lot of other goodies. Let’s go see how it all turned out! AtmosphereBecause we had a busy day and the lunch and dinner menu are now the same, we decided to opt for a lunch advance dining reservation. Le Cellier Steakhouse — Outside View When we arrived, we only had to wait for a bit before we were shown to our table. The very slight delay gave us a chance to check out once more the addition of several paintings by The Group of Seven, which were recently installed to honor this important Canadian school of painters. Description of Lobby Paintings The seating in this tiny waiting area is of the outdoor bench type, which makes it not all that comfortable. But, honestly, most of the waiting area seating is usually taken up whenever I get there. Seating and Paintings in the Lobby Nameplates beneath each painting give you more information. If you have a few moments, be sure to check them out. They really are beautiful. Lobby Decor — Up Close As you’re shown to your table, you’ll wave goodbye to sunlight for a little while. Le Cellier really is, well, in a cellar. Le Cellier Entryway And you get a sense of that as soon as you turn the corner into the restaurant. The feeling is at once warm and cozy, yet elegant. Le Cellier Dining Room The rich detail lends itself to the feeling that you’ve stepped into the wine cellar of a grand chateau. Beamed ceilings and stone arches fit right in! Le Cellier Ceilings and Chandeliers The room seems to be lit primarily by candles. These are electric, of course. But they lend a soft light to your surroundings. Bad for reading your menu and photographing your food, but good for setting the right tone. Wall Sconces En route to your table, you’ll also see the wine cave, decorated appropriately with maple leaves. Wine Cave One thing that is always a little surprising to first time guests: this is a tiny dining room. With the combination of the restaurant’s popularity and the small footprint of the seating area, it’s not surprising that ADRs are tough to come by. Seating While seating is comfortable, tables are situated very close together in some spots. We prefer the tables in the middle of the floor, which are set a little further apart. Seating Beneath the Mullioned Windows We have plenty of new things to show you, so let’s get to the food! EatsWith its elevation to Signature Dining status (which means you’ll spend two Disney Dining Plan credits per person for a meal), Le Cellier makes a consistent effort to change things seasonally. We saw this with the addition of a few decidedly summery dishes appearing alongside old favorites. Yep! The Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup is safe. OH — and remember the snazzy, backlit menus? Gone. Apparently, they weren’t technologically viable. Batteries kept going dead and whatnot. So if the dim lighting is a concern for you, be sure to have a small light or a phone flashlight handy. Here were our choices for apps. (Octopus seems to be on a number of Disney menus lately. Must’ve been a bulk sale on it somewhere.) Menu — Appetizers — Click to Enlarge The Artisanal Cheese Selections also looked pretty delish. These are available for appetizers or dessert. Cheese Selection — Click to Enlarge Le Cellier has also introduced a full “Poutine” Menu. Since these are not true poutine — Cheese Curds and Brown Gravy on Fries — the restaurant wisely puts the word “poutine” in quotation marks. Yes. Like that. Sides are listed here as well, and have been greatly reduced in recent menu overhauls. See ya later truffle mac n cheese! Hopefully that will come back onto the menu in the Winter. Menu — “Poutine” and Sides — Click to Enlarge But here’s where it gets serious: Entrees. Yep — you’re reading that right. The “Le Cellier” Filet Mignon…well, it’s different. Menu — Entrees — Click to Enlarge We’d gotten word from our readers that the risotto had been switched to a pea risotto a couple of months before, but the Truffle Butter Sauce remained. Now it’s been switched to a Bacon and Spinach risotto…with Parmesan Butter Sauce. Hmm…sounds good, but… . After much deliberation and many questions for our patient server, we finally made our selections. The first thing to arrive was the Bread Basket, which still features a medley of breads, including the beloved Pretzel Bread Sticks. They’re served with Unsalted Butter, which is sprinkled with what tastes like a combination of Maple Sugar and Sea Salt. If we hadn’t had full meals on the way, I would have indulged more in this simple combo. It was so, so good. Bread Basket My friend was excited to see the addition of Burrata on the menu, so we began with the Farmer’s Market Bounty. The beautiful platter included Compressed Cucumber, Macerated Strawberries, Burrata, and Strawberry Walnut Croutons. The combination was very summery. The Burrata, which is a fresh cheese that’s similar to fresh mozzarella but with a creamy center, was mild and tangy, and the unexpected texture of the cucumber really contrasted well. Farmers Market Bounty But, of course, I couldn’t pass up the chance to start my meal with the Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup. (My food choices aren’t often dictated by the season.) The rich, cheesy soup tasted faintly of Smoky Bacon with the rich tang of Beer. If you haven’t sampled it at Le Cellier or at the Canada Booth during the Food and Wine Festival, I heartily recommend that you give it a try! It’s still a killer bowl of soup. Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup The Canadian Cove Mussels were, well, not my thing. But my friend said they were fresh, delicious — and huge! The flavors were applied lightly here; the mussels weren’t swimming in cream or butter. Once again, you could see a seasonal influence at play. She enjoyed them very much. Canadian Cove Mussels We decided that we also had to try the Braised Octopus. (I knew you’d want to see what it looked like! Is it a giant octopus on a plate? It is just a big tentacle?) As it turns out, it was slices of…tentacle, I’m guessing. And the menu said it was supposed to be braised, but ours was downright burnt. Accompanied by Roasted Eggplant Puree, Pickled Baby Peppers, Chayote Squash, and Herb Pistou, we didn’t expect it to be a very colorful dish. But we did expect that something “braised” would not arrived burnt and charred. Braised Octopus Here’s a close up of the octopus. We were surprised at its condition, and even asked our server if it was supposed to be like this. She said yes, but didn’t seem terribly confident. If this one is still on the menu, I’d definitely suggest they take it back to the drawing board. The octopus was chewy and tasted charcoal-y. Didn’t really wow us. Octopus — Up Close Next, we dug into the Pulled Barbecue Pork “Poutine”. I LOVE the regular Le Cellier “poutine,” with the fancy Canadian Cheddar and red wine reduction — so good!!, but I wanted to try one of the new ones this time as well. Now, I know what you’re going to say. This is not Poutine! Yes. I completely agree with you. I think what the chefs are trying to do here is use the concept of poutine as a springboard to explore fun new flavors with different components. Think of it as a riff on the concept. BUT — poutine purists, I realize, may balk. We took it for what it was and really enjoyed it. The Pulled Pork and Cornbread Croutons were amazing, as was the drizzle of Jalapeno Aioli, which had a little kick to it. It was another dish that we would have happily devoured, had entrees not been en route to our table. It could easily serve as a main dish. Pulled Barbecue Pork “Poutine” And speaking of main dishes…we’ve arrived there! I, of course, went with the “Le Cellier” Filet Mignon. This has been one of my favorite meals in all of Walt Disney World since the first time I had it. I’ve strayed a few times to other steaks, but I always come back to this one. BUT — there are differences here. The Wild Mushroom Risotto and Truffle Butter Sauce version that I have secretly composed odes to (ok, not secretly) is gone. For now, at least. (Who knows; maybe it will come back on a Winter menu as well.) In its place, you’ll find the filet accompanied by Smoked Bacon and Spinach Risotto and Parmesan Butter Sauce. I was prepared to HATE the updates. But….ohmygosh it was one of the most delicious things I’ve ever tasted! It was better than the previous version, and I absolutely wanted more when I was finished. I’m pretty sure I didn’t even offer my friend a taste. The new risotto is super flavorful (bacon will do that to a dish, I’ve heard), and the spinach gave it  a beautiful color. The Parmesan Butter Sauce should have its own national holiday. I wanted to swim in it. “Le Cellier” Filet Mignon with Smoked Bacon and Spinach Risotto, Heirloom Toy Box Tomatoes, and Parmesan Butter Sauce One point to note: our server was well aware of the loyal following that the classic combo inspires. We asked if the kitchen kept some of the Wild Mushroom Risotto and Truffle Butter Sauce on hand for special requests. She said no. (However, if you are pining too much for the the Truffle Butter Sauce, take heart: it will be featured with the filet once more at this year’s Epcot Food and Wine Festival in the Canada Booth.) We also ordered the King Salmon. Served with Zellwood Corn Cakes, Watermelon Radish, Raspberry Vinaigrette, and Citrus Blend, we enjoyed it. Once again in this dish, we saw nods to seasonal flavors and local ingredients, and I’ll eat just about anything that has Zellwood corn involved. Wild King Salmon After what had been, on the balance, a delicious meal, we couldn’t pass up a look at the Dessert Menu. We saw lots of new offerings and that was a good thing. Desserts, beyond classics like Maple Crème Brûlée and the children’s menu favorite, Chocolate Moose, have been largely forgettable here. Dessert Menu — Click to Enlarge We went with several options to get a variety of flavors. First up — the Meyer Lemon Curd Tart — because I can’t resist the words “Lemon Curd.” And it was great. That little square on the bottom is pretty much all lemon curd with I think little shortbread-y crust at the bottom. What could be better? The Cheese Crème on top was good too, but definitely played second fiddle to the lemon tart. Meyer Lemon Curd Tart Another of the desserts excited one of my friends. She really enjoys trying things that are a little out of the ordinary, so we also ordered the Citrus Olive Oil Cake. The Cake is topped with Vanilla-Mint Panna Cotta, and comes with Chili Pepper Sorbet and a Sesame Tuile. I’ll give you that the dessert was visually appealing. But that’s where my appreciation for it stopped. I disliked everything about it — the flavor, the garnish, the words “Panna Cotta” — everything. It’s a cake….made out of olive oil. Why would you do that?! I even asked the manager…”Why would you do that?! Chili Pepper, Olive Oil, Vanilla-Mint, Sesame? That’s not a dessert, that’s a salad!!” I think those were just about my exact words. ;-D I get a little passionate about my sugar. (I’m sure you guys haven’t noticed that.) But my friend really enjoyed the citrus-olive oil flavor of the cake, and appreciated the novelty of the olive oil in a lightly sweet preparation. She also enjoyed the tuile, a cookie that reminded her somewhat of a South Carolina specialty, Benne Wafers. Citrus Olive Oil Cake We also tried the Caramel Milk Chocolate Bar. Candy Bar-type desserts like this one seem to be all the rage in Walt Disney World these days, as we keep finding them on menus. We liked this much better than the others! And the Chocolate Sorbet was a nice garnish. Caramel Milk Chocolate Bar Finally, we had to practice another nod to classic Le Cellier dining, and we ordered a dessert off the children’s menu, Chocolate Moose. Nope, there were no kids at our table. But who can resist Chocolate Moose??? Chocolate Moose! The Dark Chocolate Mousse garnished with Cookies and Chocolate Pieces to look like, well, a moose, is still as cute as ever. Sophisticated palates may not be impressed. But if you like a good dose of whimsy with your sweet ending, you’ll enjoy this one. Chocolate Moose — Inside More than satisfied with another delicious meal, we headed out to see what else we could get into. OverallSo, first things first. Le Cellier is extremely expensive. I wish it weren’t, but it is. And I still wish they offered different menus for lunch and dinner, so that you could 1) save a little by opting for a noonday meal, and 2) enjoy more variety of offerings. I really think the menu price increase will continue to keep me away from Le Cellier on a regular basis (I hadn’t visited for well over a year before this lunch, I don’t think.) But even with that said, I still love this place. Every time I visit, I have a stellar meal — up to and including this time, when they completely overhauled my favorite menu item! We find lots of interesting flavors here. Some are a little more adventurous than I care for, and execution can be tricky for others, but overall, I find more to be happy about than I find reasons to be critical. So we are going to continue the streak and keep recommending that you give Le Cellier a try for special occasion dining. Whether you enjoy savoring (most) of your favorite Le Cellier dishes unmeddled with, or you like to push the envelope with adventurous dining, you are likely to find something worth the splurge. 10. We are less than one month from the start of the 2014 Epcot Food and Wine Festival and it will be here before you know it! Today, we are anticipating some of our favorite Special Events. While we love the Marketplace Booths and Low-Cost Demonstrations and Seminars, it’s fun to splurge once in a while on a few of the Special Events, culinary experiences that take place throughout the festival. Much is made of wine — after all, this is a food and wine festival. But in recent years, Epcot has expanded its offerings to lovers of cocktails and beer as well. The opportunity to try craft beers and brews from all around the globe is especially exciting. So let’s take a closer look today at one of the events that is especially geared toward beer lovers — The Italian Food and Beer Pairing Lunch. Italian Food and Beer Pairing Lunch at Epcot’s Via Napoli Ristorante e PizzeriaI attended this event during its inaugural year. While the food was delicious and the beer servings were generous, we were disappointed by the event format. It was basically a luncheon with none of the presentation or explanation that we’ve come to expect with these types of events. We were anxious to try again though, and last year I was able to attend the event again. Italian Beers and Bottles We arrived at Via Napoli Ristorante e Pizzeria a little early for the event. That’s always a good idea so that you can scope out the venue — especially at a place that is still functioning as a regular restaurant while the event is going on. It’s not always easy to find the registration desk for the event versus the regular check-in line for the restaurant! While I’ve had trouble with this particular distinction at Via Napoli before (they usually have people check in for the Food and Wine events at the regular check-in desk), on this visit they had the registration desk separate. Arriving for the Event That said, the sign was a little confusing. Apparently, it’s doing double-duty for both the Beer Pairings and the Wine Pairings. Our event included only beer; there isn’t a combo event, for those of you who are wondering. We were greeted by one of the managers, who showed us to the area where the event would take place. Via Napoli’s Manager Greeted Guests We found our tables set with all of the glassware that we’d need for four courses. There was also fresh Bread with Olive Oil for dipping to get us started. Note that seating seemed to be assigned at this event. I’ve found that to be the case at more and more food and wine events these days. The Table is Set Individual menus made for handy references throughout the meal and great souvenirs after it was complete. Place Setting Before we got started, I had a few moments to acquaint myself with the other guests seated at my table (another good reason to arrive a bit early!). I also had a chance to look over the menu. Menu — Click to Enlarge It seems that the Italy Culinary team have gotten the memo; our event included a presenter (from the Italian beer distributor) who spoke knowledgeably about each course and the beers that were chosen for the luncheon. We talked specifically about the fact that wine is far more popular in Italy, but that the craft beer market is definitely emerging there. The cool part? Italians invest as much love and passion into creating beer as they do wine! Presenter Speaking of beer, we were poured small glasses for each course. The bottles were larger, a liter or so, rather than the 12-ounce bottles we saw at the event the last time — so we didn’t all get our own bottles. However, refills were available. Pouring the First Beer We began with the Birrificio del Ducato’s Nuova Mattina. The fresh ale is created with the addition of chamomile and ginger, rendering a crisp, citrusy, herbal flavor. It was a good way to begin our journey. Birrificio del Ducato’s Nuova Mattina It was a little light when paired with the hearty Minestra Maritata, a Vegetable Soup with Sausage and Beans. I thought it stood best alone, sort of like a beer aperitif. Still, I enjoyed it. Minestra Maritata — Sausage and Vegetable Soup Our next beer was My Antonia. Named for the Willa Cather novel, this imperial pilsner was born from a joint venture between Dogfish Head Brewery (yep, American) with Italian brewer Leonardo DiVencenzo of Birra del Borgo at a beer festival in Italy. After that experience, the guys from Dogfish Head returned home and created My Antonia for distribution in America. But here’s where it gets a little confusing; there is an American version (with a white label) and this version, which is brewed in Italy. It’s special because it’s fairly rare to find this one in the US. So how awesome that we had the chance to try it! So I guess we call this one Italian-collaborative. A little heavier than the preceding beer, it was golden in the glass with the pronounced flavor of hops and a slightly sweet taste. Pouring Birra del Borgo’s My Antonia It complemented our next course, the Pizza Margherita with Buffalo Mozzarella, perfectly! But then, you have to work pretty hard to mess up beer and pizza, I think. Pizza Margherita con Bufala DOC So far, I’m learning that Italian beer has a lot to do with aromatics. It’s pretty common to have beers brewed with various herbs, fruit rinds, and other additives to enhance the aroma and flavor. Our next selection was Birrificio L’Olmaia, PVK. This beer hails from Montepulciano and is brewed in the style of a Belgian White, or Witbier. The crisp, hazy beer recalled the flavors of citrus fruit. Birrificio L’Olmaia, PVK I found this to be an excellent choice paired with the Pesce allo Tiano, a Fish Stew with Clams, Tomatoes, Olives, and Capers. So pretty! Pesce allo Tiano Our final beer was Birrificio Montegioco’s Runa Bianca, another Belgian White. In the glass, it looked nearly identical to the previous beer. The flavor of orange peel was more pronounced in this one, though. But there are also other fruit flavors, which paired especially well with our final course. Pouring Birrificio Montegioco’s Runa Bianca What? You don’t drink beer with your dessert?? You should give it a try! But seriously — I thought this was a fun pairing. Because essentially, the Mele Fritte were very similar to Apple-Stuffed Doughnuts. The crisp beer cut the richness of the dessert really well. I thought it was a great choice, and a nice change from a dessert wine or cordial. Mele Fritte — Fried Apple Beignets with Rum As is just about always the case, we wrapped up yet another delicious meal at Via Napoli, ready to head out and enjoy the rest of our day in Epcot. Italian Beer I love these Special Events for their ability to delve a little deeper into the cuisine of a country, and to give you an authentic look at food and beverages from those areas. Having said that, they are pricey. It pays to choose your experiences carefully. But if you’re interested in learning more about a craft beer movement that’s still in the early stages, I think you’ll like the Food and Beer Pairing Lunch in Italy. 11. This week, some of the coolest photos we shared on the Disney Parks Blog gave the first sneak peeks at fall fun that will soon be unveiled. Be sure to check out these fun behind-the-scenes shots of Disney Cruise Line preparing some pretty amazing Halloween Trees that will soon be added to their fleet. And here at Walt Disney World Resort, Shawn Slater shared the news that the “Move It! Shake It! Celebrate It!” street procession will transform into the “Move it! Shake It! Dance & Play It!” Street Party this fall and will include the addition of Stitch and Phineas & Ferb. Be sure to check out his original blog post here. 13. In the second of a series of videos designed to go backstage at Circle D Ranch at Disneyland park, you’ll see Lead Equine Trainer, Jennifer Gable, working on groundwork skills. Consistent groundwork is important to build trust between the horse and trainer, and it also allows for new concepts to be introduced to the horse in a safe way. Another important idea behind groundwork is acknowledging the horse’s instincts. As a herd animal, horses naturally look toward the herd leader for guidance and safety. As the horse’s trainer, the goal is to take on the role of the leader, resulting in a horse that’s respectful, responsive and relaxed. 15. Sure, millions of photos are taken every year at Magic Kingdom Park but the first is almost always the most memorable. My first photo is in a family scrapbook and I still share first shots of my daughters visiting the park – just as many of you do. Today, we’re continuing our #DisneyKids series with a special look at first photos. You can find more fun for the little ones – as well as special offers designed with your family in mind – on our preschool page. #DisneyKids: First Photo at Magic Kingdom Park by Thomas Smith: Originally posted on the Disney Parks Blog View the full article

  17. Fall is one of my favorite times of year at Walt Disney World Resort. The weather starts to change (at least a little bit), autumn décor makes Main Street, U.S.A. even more inviting, and it’s time once again to get dressed up for trick-or-treating during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at Magic Kingdom Park. This year, the Disney villains are stepping out like never before during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, featuring new and enhanced experiences. The popular “Villains Mix & Mingle – Live on Stage” returns to the Castle Forecourt Stage several times each night, with an unforgettable performance by beloved baddies from Disney films. Throughout the evening, guests interested in meeting their favorite Disney villains will now encounter them at locations around the park. Look for Jafar in Adventureland and the Queen of Hearts near Mad Tea Party in Fantasyland, while Lotso lurks near Buzz Lightyear in Tomorrowland. At Princess Fairytale Hall, guests can choose between visiting Anna and Elsa or dropping in to see Snow White and Aurora, but be warned! The Queen and Maleficent are crashing this princess party, joining Snow White and Aurora for the night. Another all-new feature of this year’s event, Club Villain, takes over The Diamond Horseshoe in Liberty Square with a wicked atmosphere, lively music, glowing décor, and appearances by Cruella De Vil, Dr. Facilier, Anastasia, Drizella, Lady Tremaine, and more! We’re also introducing enhancements to Mickey’s “Boo-to-You” Halloween Parade, including the expansion of the Phineas and Ferb Creepa Crew pre-parade interactive experience to more of the parade route and the first-ever appearance of Wreck-It Ralph and Vanellope in the parade. Of course, Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party also features treat trails with candy galore, the Monstrous Scream-O-Ween Ball in Tomorrowland, appearances by Jack and Sally from Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” the ride of the Headless Horseman, and “Happy HalloWishes” fireworks. My family looks forward to dressing up and attending Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party every year. For 2014, this separately ticketed event has expanded to 26 nights, from opening day September 1 through Halloween night, October 31. When will you be going? 19. Relaxing at the Disneyland Resort is one of the best ways to spend a summer day. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love cooling off on Splash Mountain at Disneyland park or dropping by The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disney California Adventure park. However, a rejuvenating break has many times been the key to staying energized for “Magical” fireworks spectacular or “World of Color.” Today, I’m continuing the “Disneyland Resort Summer Tips” series with a few great locations to spend a few minutes off your feet. Unwind on a classic attraction – A grand circle tour aboard the Disneyland Railroad will always be my first choice when looking for a few minutes to relax. After that, head to Adventureland for a few minutes inside Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room – a Disneyland classic for more than 50 years. If you’re visiting Disney California Adventure park, The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure is the perfect attraction for every member of your family to enjoy a break “under the sea.” Rest your feet at a show – “Disney’s Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular” is a must-do at Disney California Adventure park, and I recommend an afternoon performance because the show runs close to an hour, allowing for a nice escape from the summer heat. If you are visiting Disneyland park on Friday, Saturday or Sunday, head over to the Big Thunder Ranch Jamboree for “The Music of: Nashville.” This all-new entertainment experience features original tunes from the hit television show along with some of your favorites from the country music charts. Lastly, journey to imagination during “Mickey and the Magical Map” in the Fantasyland Theatre! Be sure to stop by the Troubadour Tavern for a snack as you watch the show. Enjoy a light meal and speciality beverage – The lounges at the Disneyland Resort are easily at the top of the list when looking for ways to relax. I recommend visiting the the Alfresco Tasting Terrace to try the newly updated menu, including “The Disney Family of Wines.” Also at the Golden Vine Winery at Disney California Adventure park, stop by the Sonoma Terrace for a California crafted beer and a Bavarian pretzel. Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar at the Disneyland Hotel is a fan favorite and a great way to unwind after a full day in the parks. If you haven’t had a chance to experience this enchanted location, make sure and add it to your must-do list! Where is your favorite place to relax at the Disneyland Resort? 21. The dramatic Piton volcanic peaks, a famous symbol of St. Lucia, make this island one of the most stunning destinations in the Caribbean. Our call on Castries, the island’s capital, is the second stop of our 7-night Southern Caribbean cruises from San Juan this fall and the starting point for countless adventures! Whether you’re into snorkeling, biking, hiking or just relaxing with beautiful views, you’ll be in paradise on St. Lucia. Snorkel Beneath The Pitons – Those of you who want a chance to see the majestic Pitons will love this tour! It includes the perfect photo vantage point of the volcanic peaks from a cruise down the coast, plus time to relax and snorkel at the world-famous Sugar Beach located between Gros Piton and Petit Piton. Your journey along the island’s picturesque west coast on a powerboat is part of the fun of this adventure, and provides views of Marigot Bay and Soufrière Bay. If you want to add a little shopping and luxury to your experience, hop on the Cruise To The Pitons tour, which includes a stop at the shopping village of Marigot Bay. Tropical Waterfall Experience – This excursion combines visits to three spectacular destinations – volcanic springs, a historic estate, and a cascading waterfall. Starting at Sulphur Springs, you’ll be amazed at the bubbling mud pots of the only drive-in volcano in the world. Next up, you’ll head to the Morne Coubaril Estate, a plantation full of history, culture, gorgeous gardens and a sugar cane mill. Your final stop is for a dip into a pool of fresh mountain spring water under the 50-foot Toraille Waterfall. Sea Trek Helmet Diving At Pigeon Island – Pigeon Island, a national park and historic site with numerous forts, is a great landscape for hiking and breathtaking views. On this family-friendly excursion, you’ll have time to explore the park from both above and below the water. A special Sea Trek adventure, a unique helmet diving experience where you don’t even have to get your hair wet, gives you the chance to walk the ocean floor for an up-close encounter with tropical fish and marine life. The Snuba Adventure is another great options for families who prefer a traditional mask instead of the helmet. Stay tuned for my suggestions of what to do in Grenada, coming up next week. 24. We’re opening our Disney Food Blog Reader Mailbag for another great question from you today! And wouldn’t you know it? Romance is in the air. Our reader would like to know: What’s a good idea for a great date night dinner in Disneyland? What a fun question! And we definitely have some good ideas for this one. But as we all know, budgets vary. Let’s look at several options: Special Occasion Date: Napa RoseLooking for an extra special evening? Napa Rose wins our vote for the best dining experience in all of Disneyland. I Love the Napa Rose Outdoor Lounge Area The award-winning restaurant, located in Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, offers a warm, relaxed environment. But it’s the food that we absolutely love here. Chef Andrew Sutton creates a market-inspired menu of seasonal favorites, focusing on the bounty that California offers. And you can pair your meal with their superb list of California wines to enhance each course. For an extra special treat, reserve the Chef’s Counter, and enjoy watching the staff as they craft your dinner before your eyes. Veal Filet with Apricot Chutney and Summer Vegetables Entree at the Chef’s Counter Want a gourmet experience with a more relaxed vibe? Check out Steakhouse 55 Lounge in the Disneyland Hotel for delicious pub grub, inventive cocktails, and an atmosphere that is sheer Old Hollywood Glamour. Under the Sea Date: Ariel’s Grotto World of Color Dinner PackageDinner and a show? What could make for a better date? If you’re looking for more than just dinner out, we love the World of Color Dinner Package at Ariel’s Grotto! Featuring a whimsical undersea setting and lovely views, fans of The Little Mermaid will especially like the setting. Undersea Mosaic Mural at Ariel’s Grotto But it’s not all about classic Disney animation — we like the food, too! The three-course, prix fixe menu offers good variety — you’ll find seafood, vegetarian options, plus chicken and beef. Grilled Lobster Tail and Red Oak Smoked Honey-Whiskey Barbecue Tri-Tip Plus — pay for dinner, and get a pass for Preferred Viewing for the amazing World of Color light and water show! And if Ariel’s Grotto doesn’t sound like your thing, you can also choose a package with dinner at Wine Country Trattoria or Carthay Circle Restaurant, both in Disney California Adventure. Want the view without the sit-down dinner? Try Cove Bar, just upstairs from Ariel’s Grotto. It’s a great place to enjoy small plates and delicious cocktails while taking in a stunning view of Paradise Bay. Classic Disneyland Date: Cafe OrleansBut another idea we love is an evening at Disneyland Park. After all, it’s the original Happiest Place on Earth, and a stroll around the Lands that Walt Disney himself once frequented is a fun and memorable evening. When it’s time for dinner, grab a seat on the covered patio and enjoy some of my favorite classic dishes at Cafe Orleans. Outdoor Patio at Cafe Orleans Situated on New Orleans Square, it’s a great place to people watch as you dine on Pommes Frites, Gumbo, and Monte Cristo Sandwiches. But don’t forget to save room for some delicious Mickey Beignets! Monte Cristo Sandwich at Cafe Orleans Want to save a little dough but still have a great Disneyland date? Have an early dinner and then enjoy snacks and a stroll in the Park. We like the idea of sharing Popcorn from one of Disneyland’s amazingly detailed Popcorn Carts, featuring a cast of Roastie Toasties! Then enjoy a sweet ending from the Tiki Juice Bar. You’ll probably want to get two Dole Whip Floats, though. Nobody likes to share those. Dole Whip Float! We hope we’ve given you some great ideas for a memorable date night at Disneyland. 25. For this “Disney Parks After Dark,” I wanted to find a place in the Disneyland Resort where I could take a series of photos while staying in the same place over a short period of time. My goal was to make each photo look different without adding additional lighting. The first photo is a typical example of what I would normally take of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. It was taken at 9:18 p.m. The second photo was taken at 9:22 p.m., but under the bright red glow from the finale of “Fantasmic!” on the nearby Rivers of America. The last photo was taken at 9:32 p.m., during the “Magical” fireworks spectacular. For these three photos, I made minor adjustments in the camera to vary the blur of the trains. For this last photo, I moved the tripod a bit to the left to get more of the fireworks in the shot.
