  6. Spending some time at Disneyland? Head on down Main Street USA and take a pit stop at Jolly Holiday. There are some delicious new treats that have been recently added the bakery case. Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe Mary Poppins and her penguins have obviously been busy in the kitchen. There are several new baked goods in the case, all which look practically perfect in every way. Most of these new treats are fruity flavors, which are my biggest weakness. I’d choose fruity over chocolate any day (GASP, I know!)… I ordered 5 different new treats and hope to go back soon for the ones I missed. But for now, here’s a little sampling of the new offerings. New Treats in the Bakery Case Let’s start with the Mickey Macarons. These were rumored to be hitting Disneyland quite some time ago and appear to be very different than the macarons featured at Walt Disney World. (Note that in Disney World, the signage on these was Mickey “Macaroon”; yes, we’ve had the “macaroon vs. macaron” definition discussion on the food blog many times before and it just doesn’t seem to be consistent across the Disney parks ;-D.) I’m not sure why it took so long, but HERE THEY ARE! Priced at $4.99, the Mickey Macarons are very generously sized. As of now they come in two fruity flavors; Passion Fruit and Raspberry Rose. The Passion Fruit Mickey Macaron was very sweet; passion fruit cream sandwiched between two super soft Mickey Macarons. I love the metallic purple swipe across the top. I know it’s just decorative, but I’m a sucker for shine and sparkle. Especially purple shine and sparkle AND especially when it’s edible! Passion Fruit Mickey Macaroon The Raspberry Rose Mickey Macaron was my favorite of the two. Mostly because the sour fresh raspberries balanced out the sweetness of the raspberry rose cream, but also because it’s just so pretty!!! Honestly I didn’t really taste the hint of rose at all. This one has a shiny golden swipe across the top. More sparkly food! Raspberry Rose Mickey Macaroon The fresh raspberries on this treat were juicy and sour. Just perfect. Side View with Fresh Raspberries Next up we’ll check out the Banana Eclair. Banana anything is my favorite and this was no exception. The Banana Eclair at Jolly Holiday is one of the less expensive treats in the case. However, it’s also generously sized. The pastry is topped with banana creme and a layer of decorative chocolate. It’s filled with banana pudding. Definitely heavy on the banana flavor, but it doesn’t taste overly artificial. The filling really reminded me of Jell-O Brand Banana Pudding, which I love. If you aren’t big on bananas, skip this one. But if you are, for sure go for it! Banana Eclair The Pineapple Upside Down Bundt Cake was amazing. At $5.19 it’s a little more expensive, but again, plenty large and oh so good! The bundt cake was extremely moist, with pineapple baked right in. The glaze on top was caramelized, crispy and sweet. And that custard swirl you see? Surprise! It’s not just on top, but piped all the way down, filling the center of the bundt cake. It’s vanilla flavored and topped with Maraschino cherry. I tried this one on the spot and then brought the rest home. It tasted just as delicious the next day! Pineapple Upside Down Bundt Cake The final item of the day was the Blueberry Cheesecake. I have to say, I am usually not a fan of Disneyland cheesecake. It almost always tastes more cafeteria, less bakery. I’m not sure what Disney has done to up their game, but this cheesecake was totally on par. The not so mini cake is $5.29 and perfect for 2 people to share. We actually shared it with about 5 people, but then again, we had a whole lot of treats at the table. The cheesecake was creamy, with buttery graham crust. There was a layer of blueberry jam type pie filling on top of the bottom crust layer, which you can’t see in the photo. The cheesecake was topped with whipped cream and a perfectly placed star burst of fresh juicy blueberries. This treat was the biggest hit at the table. Blueberry Cheesecake Overall Overall, the new items at Jolly Holiday are a fantastic addition to the bakery. The refreshing variety of fruity flavors make for a perfect summer treat. Other items that I hope to get back for soon are the Orange Creme Brulee and a Lemon Cake that looked fantastic. Have you tried any of the new bakery items at Jolly Holiday? Do you have a favorite? Heather Sievers is the Disney Food Blog’s Dining in Disneyland columnist. See more of her columns here! 9. Last month, we talked with our creative team about the resort flyovers now available with My Disney Experience – a key component of MyMagic+ at Walt Disney World Resort. Today, we’re talking with some of you about getting started on the web site and mobile app. New to My Disney Experience? It’s the key to personalizing your entire visit. Getting started is easy – really, it’s done in just three steps. First, log on to the My Disney Experience website or download the newly redesigned mobile app to create your own account and customize your visit. Next, link any of your Walt Disney World Resort Hotel reservations and park tickets to your account planning page. If you don’t have reservations or tickets, both can be added later. And the final step is the best part – selecting your favorite Disney attractions, shows and more with FastPass+ and booking dining reservations. You can also set up reminders for fireworks times, parades and character experiences along with many other features. We’re just getting going with our MyMagic+ series so tell us what you’d like to know more about and check back for our next story. 10. In June, we reported that the Intermission Food Court at Disney’s All Star Music Resort would be undergoing a major refurbishment from August 1 to December 20, 2014. Well, time sure flies, and the renovation is underway! Intermission Food Court Sign Guests staying at All Star Music have a few options available to meet their dining needs. Full access to End Zone Food Court at All Star Sports and World Premiere Food Court at All Star Movies will be available (as always) with the addition of dedicated bus transportation to either location. Intermission Food Court Refurbishment sign For the duration of the refurbishment, Note’able Games Arcade has been changed to Note’able Grab ‘n Go. Those keeping up with All Star news may have noticed that the dates for this refurbishment almost exactly echo those of the renovation of All Star Sports End Zone Food Court that took place last year. The change was quite remarkable, resulting in a very different look as well as several new dining options and stations, taking several cues from some of the options that have met with so much success at the Art of Animation’s Landscape of Flavors. While we have no idea what Intermission’s renovated space will look like, I’m guessing we all have to prepare ourselves to say goodbye to this guy… Guitar Guy at former Intermission Food Court … as we look forward to what’s to come! There’s no shortage of fashion inspiration there as guests stroll in style from Main Street, U.S.A. to Carthay Circle. 14. This delightfully dark seventh collection from Beautifully Disney arrives at Disney Parks on August 9. Paying homage to those vivacious villains who have a flair for the dark side, you’ll be sure to find Tangled Web simply sinister. Look for new favorites from our collection of lightweight lip glosses, including De-Vil-icious, Heartless, Eternally Yours and Mistress of Darkness. With its sheer coverage, it’s easy to see why these lip glosses are perennial favorites among princesses and villains alike. As for our mini lipstick set, you’ll find that these pigmented and creamy formulations are a bit more wicked than anything we’ve offered before. The names of these devilishly delicious new colors, how about … Diablo, Vengeance, Bitter Much? and Sinister. The six new shades of eye shadows in the Tangled Web palette let you create a sinfully smoky eye with ease, especially with the help of the two-in-one brush sets. Every girl has their own beauty trick – with the new synthetic 2-in-1 brush set, you’ll have six. Apply foundation, blush and highlight with ease, then complete your look using the lip, smudge and crease brush heads. Tip: Each brush features two complimentary tips that interlock to form one brush, making it versatile for easy on the go travel. Even villainous beauties need some help now and then when they’re on the run. Try one – or several – of the Tangled Web nail appliqués for a fresh new look. Certainly if time is on your side, “‘polish” off your look with a chrome or glittery design from our nail polish collection. If you really want to show your devious Disney Side, I recommend the Eye Defining Gel Liner Set. Quick drying and long wearing, these three haunting hues won’t smudge. If you really want to vamp it up, the Femme Royale Eye Lash Set, perfect for day or night, will let you take your look to the next level. Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who is the fairest of them all? Adding to the lineup of criminally charming and fiendishly functional accessories, is a hand vanity mirror. It may look like a normal hand mirror, but below its baroque exterior lies a folding handle that allows it to prop itself up on any flat surface. Now you can use both hands to fix your make-up and admire the results with just one. Look for the mirror to debut in late summer. Now that I have cast a spell over you with this new collection, don’t miss out on special launch events taking place at the Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts on August 9. Disneyland Resort Disney Vault 28, Downtown Disney District (5 – 7 p.m.) Walt Disney World Resort Marketplace Co – Op, Downtown Disney Marketplace (Throughout the day) Not able to make it to our Disney Parks? 16. We’ve previously brought you animation tutorials on how to draw different characters from “Frozen,” including Anna, Elsa and Olaf. This week, Jason Zucker, a character artist from Disney’s Art of Animation Resort is here to show you step-by-step how to draw Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Oswald the Lucky Rabbit was one of Walt Disney’s first popular animated characters. He made his on-screen debut in 1927 in a short called “Proud Papa” and went on to star in a total of 26 silent cartoons. Oswald’s acquisition by another animation company in 1928 inspired Walt Disney to create a new lead character – Mickey Mouse. Oswald the Lucky Rabbit returned to the Disney family in 2006. He has since appeared in the “Epic Mickey” video game and in new Disney Parks merchandise. 18. When the Namaste Café Food Truck made its debut in Downtown Disney’s West Side last November, we happily sampled the Butter Chicken (BUTTER CHICKEN!!!!!!!!!!), a favorite dish of ours from Sanaa. Learn About: Downtown Disney Food TrucksDowntown Disney Disney World RestaurantsThe dishes at Namaste Café were chosen to reflect some of the best cuisine to be found in Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Animal Kingdom Lodge, and I remember thinking, “Cool… now, if only we could get a little of Sanaa’s fabulous bread service, we’d be set.” But I didn’t really think it would happen. I just didn’t think the setting was conducive to it. Well, apparently I was wrong, because IT HAS ARRIVED… kind of! Introducing, the Namaste Café Samosas and Naan Dipping Safari!! Namaste Cafe Menu Samosas and Naan Dipping Safari on Menu Now, we’re talkin’!!! Before we “dip in,” I should let you know where I found Namaste Café, because the Food Trucks are still moving all around Downtown Disney as they await their ultimate destination in the upcoming Food Truck Park.  On this most recent visit, I found it right outside of the World of Disney Store in the Marketplace. Namaste Cafe in the Marketplace A few standing tables like this were propped nearby. Standing Table But there is some pretty great seating just across from World of Disney, right by the water. Marketplace Outdoor Seating I needed stronger shade for my photos, so I took my dish to some additional seating by the currently-under-refurbishment Margarita Bar. Seating by Margarita Bar area No matter where you find your choice of the four Disney Food Trucks, it’s much easier to find some sort of table nearby, which is a big improvement over the early days. Okay, that’s out of the way – back to the food! There are some pretty major differences from the official bread service, of course: at Sanaa, the service comes with your choice of three breads, and you select three from a variety of nine accompaniments (unless you choose to get all nine accompaniments at the Sanaa Lounge – Hello!!). With the Dipping Safari, you receive two slices of Naan bread, two Samosas, and three pre-selected accompaniments. Samosas and Naan Dipping Safari On my visit, the dipping sauces included a Cucumber and Yogurt Raita, Hummus, and Coriander Chutney. Cucumber Raita, hummus, and Coriander Chutney So, now that we’ve gone over the components, let’s break this down a little further, starting with those Samosas, which are the size of flippin’ baseballs! Samosas Okay, so… no, they aren’t actually the size of a regulation MLB baseball . But still, compared to the smaller ones I’m used to from Mr. Kamal’s and Tusker House, they’re huge! The filling is the same potato and pea mixture. Inside the Samosa Potato and Pea filling It is so nice to see a vegetarian option at the Disney Food Trucks; something that has really been lacking since they opened last year. I found that these samosas were unusually spicy compared with those I’ve enjoyed before. Like many Disney foods prepared for a variety of palates, it wasn’t “blow you away” spicy, but it definitely had a real kick, which I loved — especially in this case, because I was able to cut the spice with the Cucumber and Yogurt Raita. Cucumber Raita The coolness of the yogurt and cucumber along with the mild hint of mint was the perfect pairing with the heat of the samosa. Samosa with Cucumber Raita Honestly, this match was so great that I could’ve stopped right there. But since we are on a “safari,” there is more exploring to do… Next up, the hummus! Hummus Really, it’s just a simple hummus. Which — if you like hummus — that’s not a bad thing at all! Cool and slightly garlicky (hooray!), I preferred this with the Naan bread. Hummus with Naan The Naan here, you’ll notice, isn’t the pillow-y, bubbly Naan like you’ll find at Sanaa or Landscape of Flavors. It’s thin, but super soft, nicely charred, and I loved how mine came hot off the grill. Two slices of Naan bread I remain impressed with the fresh quality I’ve experienced with every Food Truck dish I’ve had so far. Finally, we have the Coriander Chutney. Coriander Chutney I should note that, when I placed my order, the Cast Member asked if I wanted the Dipping Safari as it comes (which I did, so I could sample everything for you). So, it seems you can customize. If you’re not a fan of – oh, say cilantro, like AJ — you’ll want to lay off the Coriander Chutney. I love the stuff, so I’m always happy with a big ‘ol pile of cilantro, garlic, and spice! Naan with Coriander Chutney The consistency on this one, though, wasn’t what I’d hoped. No matter how I mixed it, the oil remained separated. I know Disney can do chutney, though, since this is similar to the excellent batch I sampled with the side of Naan at Landscape of Flavors, so I remain hopeful for this one in a future batch. Whew! I gotta say, I was happily stuffed when it was all over! There is a LOT to this… oh, and I still haven’t mentioned the slaw! It’s the same mix of pickled cucumber, radish, golden beet, onion, and carrots that accompany the Butter Chicken and carries a crazy amount of kick. It was more of an afterthought in this dish for me — just a garnish, but I did like the option for even more spicy heat here. Slaw garnish Should you choose to go on your own Dipping Safari, may I make a suggestion? Consider bringing a mint along for after to counteract all this garlicky goodness… your traveling companions will appreciate it . Well, I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I do believe I’ve found a new favorite Disney Food Truck item. I thought nothing would top the Hand-dipped Corn Dog at Fantasy Fare for me, but the Dipping Safari has managed to do it. Granted, I adore anything even remotely resembling Sanaa’s Bread Service. So, if you’re like me in that regard, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed if you choose to hit up Namaste Café on your next trip to Downtown Disney! Would you like to try the Dipping Safari? 21. When it comes to my sisters, I like warm hugs. But on this National Sisters Day, it was clear an “icy reception” by “Frozen” royalty Anna and Elsa at Disney’s Hollywood Studios was the warmest way to celebrate sisterhood. The pair welcomed a group of girls from Central Florida nonprofit Girls, Inc. for “Frozen Summer Fun LIVE” today … and these “sisters in spirit” couldn’t have been more elated! As one of four sisters, I couldn’t help but giggle along with this gaggle of 12 girls, ages 8-12, as they took part in a special ice-skating session, played in the snow and built a snowman. After watching a procession of guests in “Anna and Elsa’s Royal Welcome,” the girls enjoyed front row views at the special sing-along moment. And the singing continued as the girls belted out “Let It Go” and other favorite tunes from the movie during “A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration.” GalleryDisney’s Hollywood Studios Welcomes Girls, Inc. for ‘Frozen’ Fun on National Sisters Day view allKnown for inspiring girls to be strong, smart and bold – just like Elsa and Anna – Girls, Inc. is a Disney Grant recipient that provides mentors to guide them, peers who share their drive and an encouraging, girls-only environment.
