Did you know you can take a real taste of the Hawaiian islands home with you from Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort? Boutiki Boutiki Now, you may already be familiar with some of the ways you can grab a macadamia treat while at the resort… say, the Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cupcake occasionally spotted at Captain Cook’s, or Macadamia Pineapple Pancakes from Kona Cafe. Chocolate Macadamia Cupcake from Captain Cook’s Macadamia Pineapple Pancakes from Kona Cafe But I was walking by Boutiki recently — the main merchandise location at the Polynesian — and couldn’t help but notice this window display packed to the brim with “Hawaiian Host†items, prepackaged and ready for travel. Boutiki window display Boutiki window display Boutiki window display Stepping inside I found the Hawaiian Host display, which features an assortment of chocolate treats — all starring Macadamia nuts. The selection at Boutiki includes macadamias covered in dark and milk chocolate. Hawaiian Host Dark Chocolate Covered Macadamia Nuts Hawaiian Host Milk Chocolate Covered Macadamia Nuts Chocolate Covered Macadamia Nuts Adding caramel to the mix? Even better! Hawaiian Host Caramacs And ToffeeMacs… with toffee, chocolate, AND macadamia nuts. Yes, please!! ToffeeMacs Among all the sweet snacks, I did find a savory bag as well: Maui Onion and Garlic macadamias. Maui Onion and Garlic Macadamia Nuts The pre-packaged snacks range from $6.95 to $19.95, and they’re all ready for gift-giving if you enjoy purchasing souvenirs for friends and family back home. Of course, if you employ the whole “one for you, two for me†strategy here, I’m sure not gonna blame ya ;). Aloha! Have you tried Hawaiian Host Macadamia treats? Please let us know with a comment! Today we’re sharing part three of Duke’s “Journey to Main Street.†Throughout this series, we’ve seen that Duke, in addition to being a beautiful horse, is exceptionally well-suited for his new role at Disneyland park. As it turns out, Duke had previous experience pulling a tourist trolley in nearby Temecula, Calif. This experience, coupled with his outgoing personality, helped Circle D cast members choose Duke to join the Disneyland Equine Team. And, as you’ve seen in parts one and two, our expert trainers worked with Duke over the course of a year to ensure his onstage success. I hope you’ll take a look here, as our newest equine star takes the final steps of his journey and officially joins the Main Street, U.S.A., team. Carpe diem. Seize the day. That’s exactly what you can do on an Ultimate VIP Tour. Imagine experiencing cherished attractions at three theme parks with fast-tracked access, private transportation and a Table-Service lunch in one of the parks, all in one day — accompanied by a cast member with detailed knowledge of Disney lore. I recently got the opportunity to go on The Ultimate Day for Young Families VIP Tour, one of two new offerings from VIP Tour Services (The Ultimate Day of Thrills being the other), so I of course jumped at the chance. Tomorrowland Terrace at Magic Kingdom Park is the starting point for the tour. Tracy, our Tour Guide, handed out bottles of water to keep everyone hydrated and took lunch orders. From there, we headed to Magic Carpets of Aladdin to begin our journey. We hit some classics, including Pirates of the Caribbean and Peter Pan’s Flight, and newer highpoints like Under the Sea~Journey of the Little Mermaid. Then it was off to Disney’s Hollywood Studios (yay Toy Story Midway Mania!), via private van, that included a yummy sit-down lunch at a reserved table. The tour ended on a high note at Disney’s Animal Kingdom with front row seats at Festival of the Lion King, about as close as you can get to this beloved Broadway-style show without being in it. Entering via the FastPass+ lines made for minimal waiting. Tracy was also in constant contact with Brian, our coordinator, who stayed ahead to ensure everything went smoothly. Patient, personable and well versed in all things Disney, Tracy shared trivia, helpful hints and background information along the way, like giving Toy Story Midway Mania! point-scoring tips and pointing out a hidden Mickey in the flamingo pool on Kilimanjaro Safaris. What a fascinating window into the magic. In all, we enjoyed 11 attractions in three parks — with plenty of sunshine left at the end to go exploring on our own — accomplishing a lot but never feeling rushed. A steady pace kept us on schedule. It’s a unique, specialized way to splurge on yourself and loved ones, especially if you’re pressed for time. And though designed with mild thrills for families with children under 10 years old, don’t let the name fool you. The Ultimate Day for Young Families is not just for the little ones. In fact, Tracy said adults frequently enjoy the tour sans kids. In other words, everyone’s the right age. Because fun never goes out of style. This unforgettable guided adventure (that feels intimate since there is one Tour Guide per every 10 people) through some of your kids’ (and your) favorites while spending less time in line is worth the memories. Heck, maybe you’ll discover something new in the process. I did. Okay, I admit it: Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin was a first for me. What a blast (pun intended)! No wonder it’s so popular. The tour is offered Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays and lasts six to seven hours. Attractions and entertainment offerings subject to change. The cost is $299 per person, plus tax (theme park admission not included). Call 407-WDW-TOUR (939-8687) for reservations. A few weeks ago, I promised a look at some new charms items from the Disney Parks Collection | PANDORA, which will launch in multiple merchandise locations at Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts on March 12. The new charms will join the previously released jewelry collection that features hand-finished .925 sterling silver and 14K gold charms inspired by some of Disney’s most beloved characters and icons. Here’s a preview of some new items created especially for Disney Parks. We will release two charms inspired by Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland park and Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom Park. These sterling silver dangle charms, which make great keepsakes, feature the resort destination name on the bottom of each castle. This spring collection will also include a sterling silver and teal enamel charm featuring Mickey’s Fun Wheel from Disney California Adventure park. My favorite charm, however, is a sleek sterling silver geometric sphere that resembles Spaceship Earth with a monorail from Epcot. Guests should also look for a Minnie Mouse charm that is similar to the “Mickey Mania†charm released last fall. The sterling silver openwork “Minnie Mania†charm has colorful red, light yellow, black and white enamel details. Black and red enamel Mickey and Minnie Mouse icons are also pictured on a sterling silver safety chain with enamel hearts. For those who may not be familiar with a safety chain, it’s a stylish and practical way to keep your charms secure on your PANDORA bracelet. To use, simply thread one end on the bracelet first, add your charms and then thread the other side of the safety chain on the end of the bracelet to secure. The best places at Disney Parks to find PANDORA jewelry are at La Mascarade d’Orleans in New Orleans Square in Disneyland park at Disneyland Resort, and at Uptown Jewelers in Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World Resort. Guests will also find an additional jewelry charm designs from the spring 2015 Disney | PANDORA Jewelry Collection at select Disney Parks merchandise locations and at PANDORA stores throughout North America. We will also offer select charms on our Disney Parks online store at http://www.DisneyStore.com/PANDORA. Okay. So I tried to come up with the Top Three Disneyland Restaurants for First Timers. But there was no way I could limit my picks to just three. So then, I said, hey, let’s try for the Top Five. Even still. So in the end, I cut myself off at Eight. Matterhorn! There is so much good food in Disneyland. Really, it was super hard not to just give you a list of pretty much every restaurant there, and call it a day. But if you must narrow it down, these are the restaurants that I love. These are the spots that I’d go to every single time if I could. (And mostly, I do.) Heading to Disneyland, or just dreaming about a pilgrimage there? Check out my picks for the places you have to visit during your very first trip. Whether you’re looking for a meal or a snack, you can’t go wrong with putting these spots on your list. Cafe OrleansIf I could only eat at one spot in Disneyland for the rest of my life, I’m fairly sure that spot would be Cafe Orleans. Located on New Orleans Square, it’s offers some of the beautiful patio seating that Disneyland is known for. Outdoor Patio at Cafe Orleans But I’m going to be honest — Cafe Orleans claims the distinction of offering not just one or two, but three of my favorite Disneyland dishes. (And that’s pretty much all I ever eat there.) First, when you visit here, I insist you order the Pommes Frites. Tossed with Garlic and Parmesan, they’re served with a Cajun Remoulade ramekin. I also insist you order TWO remoulades. At least. Per person. Cafe Orleans Pommes Frites While I love their gumbo here as well, it’s the Monte Cristo Sandwich that I can’t live without. Pockets of bread layered with Ham, Turkey, and Swiss Cheese are lightly battered and deep-fried. Served with Berry Puree for dipping, this is pretty much something everyone should eat at least once in life. Monte Cristo at Cafe Orleans Not a meat-eater? There’s also an All-Cheese Version. No. Seriously. There is. Behold. The Three-Cheese Monte Cristo. Did I mention the Double Creme Brie? Three-Cheese Monte Cristo at Disneyland’s Cafe New Orleans But save room for dessert — because you can’t pass on the Mickey Beignets served with Dipping Sauces. Mickey Beignets with Sauces Have this meal just once, and you can say “I’ve been to Disneyland” properly as far as I’m concerned. Blue BayouBut Cafe Orleans has an older, slightly more posh sister — Blue Bayou. And while I usually skip it in favor of Cafe Orleans, if you’re visiting the ‘Land for the first time, you really need to experience this place. Because more than anything, Blue Bayou is an experience; it’s as much an attraction as a restaurant. Blue Bayou Atmosphere Because the restaurant is fashioned to look like a verandah on a river’s edge. Look below you into the water, and you see travelers, en route to explore the mysteries of the Pirates of the Caribbean. Honestly, the food is less important here to me than the “view.” I have enjoyed the New Orleans Signature Gumbo. And in this setting, it’s even better. New Orleans Signature Gumbo And yep, to be honest, I like to order the Monte Cristo here, too! Le Special de Monte Cristo Sandwich It’s a little fancier (and more expensive), but just as delicious. Napa RoseSome of my Disneyland dining choices are obviously sentimental; either I love the restaurant, the food, or both. But it’s not like they’re the tip-top of the culinary pyramid or anything. But then, there’s Napa Rose. Start Your Napa Rose Adventure With a Glass of Wine on the Outside Patio Nestled inside Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel and Spa, Napa Rose stands as a testament to fine California fusion cuisine, inspired by fresh farm-to-market ingredients. Chef Sutton’s Chili Base — Even Base Ingredients are Created in House From Scratch Chef Andrew Sutton is in charge here, and his menus make use of the freshest items. Prepare to be dazzled by the dishes set before you! Roasted Pigeon — A Second Course During Our Chef’s Counter Experience Whether you opt for dinner in the relaxed but beautiful dining room, or choose to make a special occasion of it by indulging in the Chef’s Counter, a meal at Napa Rose is an experience to savor. Corn Dog CastleFrom the heights of gastronomic evolution — to one of the best junk foods that I’ve ever had the pleasure of consuming. Our next spot to visit is Corn Dog Castle in Disney California Adventure. Corn Dog Castle in Disney California Adventure I know. The juxtaposition can be a little dizzying. But while this is plain fun-fair food, there’s nothing common about it. Because the dogs that they serve are Hand Dipped Corn Dogs. And if you’ve never had this, the real deal, then you are SUPER missing out. Disneyland Hand-Dipped Corn Dog But here’s the even cooler part — if you don’t like corn dogs, they have a couple of other hand dipped options. Some like it hot, and that’s when I recommend the mouth-watering (and maybe a little eye-watering, too) Hand Dipped Hot Link. This one packs a spicy punch — have that water ready! Hot Link Corn Dog Not so much a fan of the meat? Then try their Hand Dipped Cheddar Cheese Stick. The Cheddar Cheese Stick’s Awesome Gooey-ness Personally, I have a tough time deciding between the three! Plaza InnIf I had to give an overarching theme to the food you find in Disneyland, it would have to be that it is, well, kind of a cut above. Even counter service food doesn’t seem like fast food. And one great example of that fact is the buffet-but-still-counter service fare you enjoy at Plaza Inn. Plaza Inn on Disneyland’s Main Street USA To begin, the restaurant, which dates back to Disneyland’s earliest days, boasts an ornate interior, replete with crystal chandeliers, gingerbread trim, and velvet. The Plaza Inn’s Interior Dining Room Breakfast boasts a Character Dining Experience with Minnie Mouse, and you can enjoy plenty of hearty, traditional breakfast options from the buffet, with wait staff assisting you at your table with beverages. Minnie Greets Her Guests Alongside Captain Hook. Because, Sure. But it’s Lunch and Dinner that I really love here. Choose from beloved house specialties like Pot Roast. Or go for their amazing (and ridiculously huge!) Fried Chicken Platter! Plaza Inn Fried Chicken It’s big enough to share, so plan accordingly! Or, you know, don’t. Cozy Cone MotelNext on the list, I think any Disneyland First Timer must — must — visit Cars Land in Disney California Adventure. And while you’re there, you might as well grab a bit to eat. And the Cozy Cone Motel is a great place to do it. (Yes, I love Flo’s V-8 Cafe, too, but there’s something so kitschy about getting your eats from a giant road cone.) Cozy Cone Motel in Disney California Adventure Cars Land Mostly, Cozy Cone is another snack stop, although their Bread Cone assortment would certainly qualify as a meal. But you’re here for the amazing themeing, first and foremost. Bringing Cars to life in the real world was a daunting feat, and Disney has accomplished it extraordinarily. Check Out Sally’s Office! But then, the food! I fell in love with their Cones early on. Chili Cone Queso at Cozy Cone Don’t forget their breakfast cones!! Breakfast Cone with Scrambled Egg, Cheese, and Bacon And Churro Bites with Dipping Sauces are hard to beat. Churro Bites with Chocolate Dipping Sauce And intriguing Flavored Popcorn (folks love the Dill Pickle) and fun drinks like Ramone’s Pear of Dice Soda are too awesome to pass up. Flavored Popcorn Cozy Cone Motel Pear of Dice Soda Which Cone will you be stopping by on your first visit? Tiki Juice BarAnd then, there’s the Tiki Juice Bar. If a trip to Disneyland is a pilgrimage of sorts, then the Tiki Juice Bar is one of the shrines at which you must pay homage. Tiki Juice Bar in Disneyland It’s not that this is the “original” or anything. Actually, it’s one of those times when Dole’s partnership with Disney landed a treat in both Disneyland and Disney World at the same time. Still. There’s just something super fun about a Dole Whip in Disneyland. Another Fun Dole Sign Awh, who am I kidding? There are two reasons that this is a must-stop spot. And they are 1) Cherries; and 2) Umbrellas. East Coast Disney folk have been super jealous of these cute little details for…well, ever, actually. Dole Whip Float! So it is practically required that you enjoy a Dole Whip Float with these embellishments. I swear, I don’t know how, but they make them taste better. Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki BarSpeaking of Tiki Culture, there’s one newer place at Disneyland that has firmly established itself in the list of spots ya gotta try the first time out. I’m talking about Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar in Disneyland Hotel. Trader Sam’s Magical Bar Stools As one of my friends put it succinctly, it’s “the best of the Jungle Cruise, Adventurers Club, and Tiki Room rolled into a liquor license.†I couldn’t agree more. With hundreds of wonders and wares covering every available space — souvenirs from Trader Sam’s five decades of exploration — you’ll never get to the end of the detail here. So take in some, plan for a return trip to see some more, and settle down to choose your poison. Because there has never been a more fun drink menu. Anywhere. Ever. Witness the beauty and majesty of the Uh Oa! (I hope you brought a friend along.) Uh Oa! But there’s some truly delicious food too! For a little taste of lots of things, try the Pu-Pu Platter. Pu Pu Platter — Tamarind Glazed Pork Wings – Asian Wings – Chinese Long Beans – Green Papaya Slaw – Sriracha Aioli Or the burger. Sometimes it has pineapples. Angus Hawaiian Burger And if you’ve still got room for more food after all of that — well, I’m speechless. There is so much good, great, awesome eats at Disneyland, it’s hard to narrow it down. Here’s hoping that I’ve given you a jump off point for planning a truly delicious trip to one of my favorite spots to eat on earth! Now I wanna hear from you guys! If you’re helping someone plan a first trip to Disneyland, what are your top spots that they must eat? Weigh in with your suggestions in comments below!
