Today, we are taking in lunch at one of Disney’s newer counter service locations, Landscape of Flavors at the Art of Animation Resort. Learn About: Landscape of FlavorsDisney World RestaurantsLandscape of Flavors took Walt Disney World by storm when it opened a couple of years ago. It was similar to other value resort counter service spots and food courts, in that it offered quick service food from various stations. But right from the start, Landscape of Flavors offered fresh flavors and customizable options that set it apart. And with it, there came a bit of a wait. Today, we’re heading back to see what is the same, what has changed, and if the wait times for food that we feared have come to pass. Let’s head in! AtmosphereOne of the most interesting things about Landscape of Flavors is its entrance. You actually access the restaurant through the Ink and Paint Gift Shop. You Shop Your Way Through the Ink and Paint Shop to Get to Landscape of Flavors Go past the wares, and here you are! Landscape of Flavors Sign Seating is ample, to say the least. More than 500 spots await you once you receive your food, and there are more tables and chairs outside. Seating The beautiful lights overhead are painted to represent scenes from each of the four films highlighted at the resort: Finding Nemo, Cars, Lion King, and The Little Mermaid. Overhead Lights I know that was a pretty quick tour of the surroundings, but I promise you there’s a lot to look at in the ordering area! So let’s get to it. EatsLike many other Disney food court-type counter service spots (think Everything Pop or Sunshine Seasons), Landscape of Flavors offers different stations for different types of food. The difference here is that the options have an international flair that’s a little more interesting than some other spots. But don’t worry; there are flavors to appeal to picky and discriminating eaters alike. During breakfast, stations change up with morning meal options. Today, we’re taking a look at a few of the stations you’ll find for lunch and dinner. I was visiting for lunch at the time. The name of the game here is customization! Nearly everything can be made according to what you like. You can order a custom salad from the Salad Station. Salad Station I absolutely love their Create Your Own Pasta Station! I had one of my favorite meals here on a recent trip. Create Your Own Pasta Station I also snapped a picture of the Stir-Fry Station chef  at work — it’s always so cool to watch them, and the food looks fresh and delicious! Stir Fry Station — Always Entertaining! A few of the stations are opened all day, like the Smoothie Station and the Gelato Station. Smoothie Station Gelato at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort After looking around a bit, we figured out that we wanted to try the Tandoori Station. Tandoori Menu — Click to Enlarge The tandoori options come with your choice of two sides, which include an assortment of Roasted Vegetables. Vegetables at the Tandoori Station We also thought the Burgers from the Burger and Sandwich Station looked interesting. Burger Options on the Menu — Click to Enlarge We placed our orders with the staff at each station, waited for our food, and then had a look around at Grab and Go options. There is a Bakery Case that holds an assortment of Breakfast Pastries as well as Bakery Dessert Items, like Cookies, Tarts, and the like. Bakery Case They also stock Gluten Free Goodies made by Babycakes NYC! If you’re missing the treats from the bakery since its closure at Downtown Disney, this is a good place to pick up some things. Gluten Free Babycakes Cupcakes in Grab and Go There’s an assortment of beverages and food in the Grab and Go area as well. You’ll find bottled options, including Wine and Beer. You’ll also find customary fountain stations beyond the check out area for fountain drinks. This is where you’ll grab refills using your Souvenir Refillable Mugs. Grab and Go Beverages If you aren’t in the mood to wait around for food, you’ll find Sushi and other items — packaged and ready to go! Grab and Go Sushi The use of real plates and silverware also sets this spot apart. While most of the other counter service locations around Walt Disney World still use disposable items, you’ll find real utensils and plates here. Real Silverware! Once you have your made to order and grab and go items, pick up your utensils and head to the cashier to pay for everything. Registers and Ordering Area So, what did we decide on? Glad you asked! At the Tandoori Station, we went with the Tandoori Chicken. The dish came with Rice Pilaf and Naan (one of our favorite snack values!), and we could choose two sides. We went with Roasted New Red Potatoes and Sauteed Spinach with Curried Tofu. Since everything was pretty much ready to go at this station, we had our food quickly here. This station offers consistently delicious and interesting food, and we were very happy with our selection. Tandoori Chicken Our other item was a completely different matter, though. I went with the House-Made Vegetable Burger…and proceeded to wait half of forever for them to make it. Seriously. It was like 20 minutes for me to get it. And once I did, it tasted okay. But by that time, the rest of the food was cold. House-Made Vegetable Burger with Fries With Pepper Jack Cheese, a Fried Green Tomato Slice, and a Brioche Bun, it’s definitely a cut above your garden variety veggie burger. It’s also served with your choice of a side of Fries or Cole Slaw. House-Made Vegetable Burger — Under the Bun After a lunch plagued with bad timing, we turned our attention toward a sweet ending. We decided to try one of the grab and go options — the Frozen Chocolate Covered Strawberry Cheesecake on a Straw. Frozen Chocolate Covered Strawberry Cheesecake on a Straw I told you all about this one a while back. Lemme just say — it returned the smile to our faces! It was such a fun dessert item. Frozen Chocolate Covered Strawberry Cheesecake on a Straw — Cross Section And I got to take the Mickey Straw with me for later! OverallI seriously love a stroll through Landscape of Flavors. All of the food is so interesting here. From the stations to the grab and go options, you can see that they are striving to offer guests something that’s a cut above typical food court food. However, the issue that we were concerned about during our very first visit has certainly come to fruition. With so many stations and customizable options (and many fancy garnishes, like fried green tomato slices), the wait times for items can be long. If you’re in a situation where you stay together as a group, and move from station to station to get items, someone will invariably end up with cold food. And the cumulative wait can be ridiculously long. I’m not sure what the answer is, but I would definitely recommend that you try and split up to order if possible and eat at slower times if your schedule permits it. With a little forethought, I’m confident that you’ll enjoy a trip to Landscape of Flavors. Is Landscape of Flavors one of your favorite spots to dine? Leave a comment and tell us what you think! Tables in Wonderland vs Disney Dining Plan – Which is better? October 10, 2013 by Keli Updated October 4, 2015 by Bob Disney has two dining programs that often leave people a little confused and asking the question: Tables in Wonderland vs Disney Dining Plan, which is better? Unfortunately, there’s no simple answer. A lot depends on your style of Disney Dining. Are you the type of person that likes to dine at the nicest restaurants with your meal including appetizers, entrees, and desserts? Then the Disney Dining Plan may be perfect for you! Or are you the type of person that wants to see the characters; or maybe you only order an appetizer/entree or entree/dessert combo; and/or you like to have a glass of vino with your meal? Tables in Wonderland may be the better option. Let’s take look at these two programs in a little more detail. Tables in Wonderland (TiW) is a 20% discount card for various dining experiences throughout the Walt Disney World Resort. Who’s eligible and what’s included? Only Florida Residents, Annual Passholders, and Disney Vacation Club Members are eligible for this discount card. The TiW card is good for one year. The current price is $175 for Florida Residents and $150 for Annual Passholders/Disney Vacation Club Members. A 2nd membership may be added for $50.TiW will cover the cardholder and up to 9 other guests on one check. If you and your spouse both have TiW cards, by using 2 cards, the number of people covered is now 20.TiW is a 20% on all food and alcohol at participating restaurants. Beginning late summer 2014, there will be some blackout dates, so be sure to check the list of participating restaurants here. Note: Most Quick Service locations within the Parks are not participating in this discount. When using TiW and 18% gratuity will automatically be included as a line item on your bill regardless of party size. You always have the option to tip more or less than the suggested tip!Valet parking at resorts and parking at the Theme Parks for the sole purpose of dining is complimentary with a valid dining receipt.Invitations to TiW special events such as dessert parties, happy hours and dinners!TiW can be used in conjunction with the Disney Dining Plan at participating restaurants for items not covered under the Disney Dining Plan such as alcohol. Disney Dining Plan (DDP) is a pre-purchase option for your dining experiences throughout the Walt Disney World Resort. There are several packages to meet your dining needs. The 3 most popular are Quick-Service Dining Plan, Regular Dining Plan, and Deluxe Dining Plan. What’s included and who’s eligible? The Regular DDP includes 1 Table Service Meal, 1 Quick Service Meal, and 1 Snack per night of your package, plus a Refillable Resort Mug.Any one staying at a Walt Disney World Resort property may purchase the DDP.DDP must be purchased by everyone or no one on the same package.DDP must extend the entire length of your package. All DDP credits may be used in one day and do not have to be spread out over your vacation. When using DDP, line items indicating 15% and 20% gratuity will be included on your bill. However, you always have the option to tip more or less than the suggested tip!Comparison Tables in Wonderland vs Disney Dining Plan for 2 adults and 1 child (age 8 at the time of travel) Since we are DVC Members, my family generally purchases the Tables in Wonderland Card and pays out of pocket for food along the way. However, any time we are planning a trip, we look at the cost of purchasing Tables in Wonderland vs Disney Dining Plan. On this trip, we plan to eat at The Crystal Palace, Chef Mickey’s, Akershus Royal Banquet, Tusker House, and ‘Ohana as our Table Services (all character meals). For our Quick Services, we’ll eat at Casey’s Corner, Backlot Express, Earl of Sandwich, Flame Tree Barbeque, and Liberty Inn. Snacks will include a Dole Whip, Caramel & Chocolate Dipped Strawberry (Germany), Popcorn, Funnel Cake with Powdered Sugar & Cinnamon, and a Chocolate Covered Rice Krispies Treat. The Regular DDP currently costs $58.66 per adult (age 10 & up) per night and $18.88 per child (age 3-9) per night. So, for a 5 night trip, the total cost not including gratuities = $681 Out of pocket for a 5 night trip not including gratuities = approx. $587 TiW for a 5 night trip not including gratuities = approx. $561 In this scenario, TiW is clearly the most cost effective choice and since our family travels to WDW more than once per year, we have recouped our initial TiW investment of $150 in this trip and any future trips are money saved on dining. Each trip and each family is different; calculate the numbers for your needs before making a decision. Article by Chipandco.com

Catamaran Water Fun in Costa Rica with Adventures by Disney
Disney4me posted a topic in Disney Blogs
Another beautiful day out here in Costa Rica as we continue to share our Adventures by Disney journey with you! Over the past few days, our teen photographers have taken some breathtaking images with their Nikon cameras, zip lined through the tropical rainforest and white-water rafted through the raging waters of the Tenorio River. Today we ventured out into the Pacific Ocean for our catamaran excursion. With the secluded beaches surrounding us, we felt like we were on our own private island! The teens looked forward to snorkeling, paddle boating and using their Nikon CoolPix AW cameras to snap some awesome underwater photos. Speaking of photos, I captured this action shot just before they all went overboard! As we headed under the sea, our teen photographers had fun taking photos of each other as they snorkeled around the pristine blue waters of the ocean. Besides all the wonderful activities that we enjoyed in the ocean, the teens became one with nature as they shot some incredible photos of the natural beauty that Costa Rica is known for. Courtney perfectly captured the bright reds and the water droplets on these flowers. Faris put his zooming skills to use with this amazing shot of a dragonfly. Check back for my next post of our teen-focused trip as we continue to explore this incredible region with Adventures by Disney! As part of the festivities, we also announced the Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration, coming spring 2015 to mark 60 years at the Happiest Place on Earth. We also asked fans to share their favorite Disneyland Resort memories for a chance to win a trip to the kick-off of the celebration next year! Find out how to enter here. Also on July 17, Splash Mountain at Disneyland park marked 25 years of splashdowns. Paul Hiffmeyer commemorated the anniversary with a lovely view of the attraction after dark. The time has come! Ever since we told you about the Club 33 renovation in Disneyland, we’ve been awaiting opening night…and now we’ve got PICTURES!! (You can see a history of Club 33 here.) 33 Mosaic Heather will be busily working on her full review for ya, but I couldn’t help sharing a few gorgeous photos of what the newly renovated (and MOVED) restaurant looks like now. I’m happy to say that there have been lots of positive additions, and some of the classic touches from Walt’s day have survived. Let’s take a look! AtmosphereAs many know, the Court of Angels in New Orleans Square was a favorite spot for picture-taking…and just “getting away from it all” in Disneyland for many guests. This area has now been taken over by the new entryway of Club 33! You can see details and the backstory on this area over at Daveland’s Page. But here’s what it looks like today… Steps Down to Club 33 The look and feel of 33 is now heavily accented with Art Nouveau touches, and the detail starts here on the stairs with this lighting. Steps Detail As always, Club 33 retains its mystery. Many will remember the old entrance — just a nondescript door with a “33″ plaque and a doorbell next to it. The old Club 33 entrance at Disneyland Today, the entrance remains understated. No big signs point the way to this exclusive location. Door Entryway But the doorbell has received an upgrade. Still under-the-radar, but a bit classier. New Doorbell Once you get buzzed inside, you’ll see that the new space is well appointed, indeed. This chandelier shows that no expense has been spared. chandelier And guests may be excited to know that a new Salon lounge has been added to the mix! No more waiting awkwardly in the entryway for your table to be ready! I think this is one of my favorite parts of the new space. Check out this cozy decor! Booth at Salon And you remember how I said that many of the classic touches from Walt’s day have been saved? The old Club 33 Lift has been turned into a Salon table…for one! Old Lift is a New Table Speaking of classic touches, the Club 33 Vulture has made the trip to the new location! Vulture Once you’re seated in the Salon awaiting your table, thumb through the new eats and drinks you can consider as appetizers! We loved the Diamond Martini, a new 33 signature drink. Diamond Martini in Salon Salon Nouveau (lounge) Menu Ready to head inside the dining room? Here we go! The tables and settings are reminiscent of the old Club 33, with a few modern touches here and there. Table and Settings Table Setting EatsMenus are now the purview of Disneyland’s favorite chef, Andrew Sutton, who currently also holds the reigns at Napa Rose and Carthay Circle Restaurant. They’ve been fully updated with the new renovation. Lunch Menu Dinner Menu 33 Kids Menu The full review of dinner will come along with Heather’s review soon, but I couldn’t help whetting your appetite with a few delicacies from the night! This Peach Panna Cotta Amuse Bouche was served to all guests. Peach Amuse Bouche And the new Corn Chowder is anything but dull. Corn Chowder But me? I was most excited to see MONKEY BREAD on the menu! Any fancy schmancy restaurant willing to serve monkey bread is my kind of place! Monkey Bread Stay Tuned…There are LOTS more pictures…and food…to come with our full review soon! I hope you enjoyed this tiny taste of the new 33! Is Club 33 a spot that’s on your bucket list? In my opinion, Splash Mountain at Disneyland park is the quintessential E-ticket attraction. There is something about plunging down Chick-A-Pin Hill that has made it my “laughing place†for as long as I can remember. Yesterday was not only the 59th anniversary of Disneyland park, it also marked the 25th anniversary of this beloved attraction. Today, I’m positively thrilled to continue “The Magic of Disney Parks Storytelling†series with an article from Critter Tales, a newspaper created by the animals of Critter Country, about the story of Brer Rabbit, Brer Fox and Brer Bear. In honor of the anniversary, enjoy this excerpt by Jasper P. Woodchuck about the story behind my favorite attraction, Splash Mountain. Towering up and above everything hereabouts is Splash Mountain. Used to be that once upon a time, Splash Mountain was called Chick-A-Pin Hill … Nowadays, Brer Rabbit’s been living in a briar patch, deep in the heart of Splash Mountain. And not so long ago, old Brer Rabbit took it into his head that if he’d just up and leave his prickly home in the briar patch, then he’d be able to leave all his troubles behind, as well. As soon as Brer Fox and Brer Bear got wind that Brer Rabbit was leaving his briar patch and setting out for an adventure, they decided to trap and catch him. Luckily for Brer Rabbit, he was able to trick Brer Bear into springing Brer Fox’s hastily devised rabbit trap. This made Brer Fox so furious that Brer Rabbit decided to play another trick on the two, and he began to tell them about a secret “laughing place†that only he knew about. Sure enough, Brer Bear and Brer Fox followed that rabbit right to the foot of a twin oak tree … But instead of finding a laughing place, all Brer Bear found was honeybees. Suddenly, the rotted old tree gave way with a snap and pitched Brer Fox and Brer Bear into a darkened, water-filled cavern, buzzing with hundreds of angry bees. Brer Rabbit laughed and laughed at the prank he’d played on the two scoundrels. Unfortunately for Brer Rabbit, however, he tended to laugh just a little too long at his own joke and before he knew what was happening, Brer Fox captured that hapless hare. Brer Rabbit was dragged by the ears up to the top of Chick-A-Pin Hill, where Brer Fox’s lair was hidden in a hollowed log that jutted out over the mighty Splash Mountain waterfall. Brer Fox threatened to skin Brer Rabbit, and then to roast and eat him. But thinking quickly, Brer Rabbit told Brer Fox to go ahead and do anything with him he wanted, so long as he didn’t throw him over the waterfall into the Briar Patch. Slow-wittted Brer Bear liked the idea and decided that flinging Brer Rabbit into the briar patch was the best thing to be done. Brer Fox tried to prevent him, and in the struggle, all three went over the falls and into the briar patch. The briar patch is, of course, Brer Rabbit’s home sweet home. All the critters hereabout turned out to congratulate clever Brer Rabbit on having gotten away once again. And while Brer Fox and Brer Bear tried unsuccessfully to untangle themselves from the sharp, prickly briars, Brer Rabbit promised his friends that once and for all he had learned his lesson about leaving home, and that he is going to stay here forever and ever – at least until the urge to go adventuring strikes him once again. Your obedient reporter, Jasper P. Woodchuck What is your favorite memory on Splash Mountain? Leave your response in the comments below! Sunday, July 20, is National Ice Cream Day, declared by President Ronald Reagan in 1984, and we’re happy for the pure joy of a dripping ice cream cone on a hot summer day. Disney Parks fans know the gooey Kitchen Sink Sundae, the irresistible Dole Whip and ice-cold Mickey Mouse bar. And we’ve all picked a favorite flavor for a double scoop from Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor at Disneyland park or Plaza Ice Cream Parlor at Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World Resort. But for National Ice Cream Day, we’re stepping out with some ice cream creations you may not have tried. Here are eight favorites that are a little more creative than a double dip of vanilla or chocolate: If you’re lucky enough to find yourself dining at California Grill at Disney’s Contemporary Resort on National Ice Cream Day, order the Sundae Sampler, a mini-trio with Frangelico toffee mousse, a float with root-beer flavored ice cream and homemade vanilla soda and a “banana split†(mousse, fresh roasted pineapple, fresh strawberries, whipped cream, candied peanuts, chocolate sauce and a cherry). You won’t want to share. Run, don’t walk, to try the chocolate macaron sandwich at L’Artisan des Glaces at the France pavilion at Epcot. A crunchy chocolate cookie sandwich with dark chocolate ice cream made right there, it’s simply divine. There are 16 flavors, but, seriously, that chocolate-chocolate sensation is a must. Another favorite? The hand-pressed brioche ice cream sandwich.Try something different at the new Morocco Juice Bar at Epcot World Showcase, where the chef is making bold ice cream flavors like chocolate and cinnamon, green tea, pistachio with orange blossom water (our favorite), strawberry and red bean, and toasted almond with rosewater. For a Magic Kingdom pick-me-up, grab the latte iced coffee float at Auntie Gravity’s Galactic Goodies in Tomorrowland. (The kids can get a caramel or hot fudge sundae.) At Disneyland Resort, we always make a stop at Clarabelle’s at Disney California Adventure park for the hand-dipped ice-cream bar. Choose vanilla, chocolate or mixed berry sorbet, ask for it dipped in milk or dark chocolate, then add a flourish of toppings like chocolate chips or rainbow sprinkles. Made on the spot while you watch. Get fancy at Napa Rose at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa with a single, double or triple scoop of artisanal ice creams: Scharffen Berger chocolate chunk, Tahitian vanilla bean or creamy California strawberry. The Napa Rose pastry chefs churn it out fresh. If you’re strolling Downtown Disney District at Disneyland Resort, stop at Uva Bar for a homemade ice-cream milkshake. We recommend the s’mores flavor. Or if a root beer float is more to your liking, they make theirs with Tahitian vanilla bean ice cream and craft root beer. We’ve got a soft spot for cobbler a la mode, and some of the best is at Big Thunder Ranch Barbecue – fresh fruit (whatever’s in season) baked in a skillet with a crunchy topping and vanilla ice cream. Grab at least two spoons and share.Eight Delectable Disney Parks Treats for National Ice Cream Day by Pam Brandon: Originally posted on the Disney Parks Blog View the full article

On the afternoon of July 20, 1969, just steps away from an attraction called “Flight to the Moon,†thousands of Disneyland park guests gathered at the Tomorrowland Stage to watch a seminal event in human history unfold on live television. Just last week, while researching another project, I came across this rare color image in our archives that shows the Apollo 11 Moon Landing being watched live at Disneyland park. In the years that followed this momentous event, we were fortunate to welcome two members of the remarkable Apollo 11 crew to Disneyland park. In February 1989, Buzz Aldrin joined us for the Challenger Spirit Salute, an event to honor the Challenger Center for Space Science Education. In July 2005, Neil Armstrong was on hand for the “re-launch†of Space Mountain. This photo was taken just above the exact spot where all those years earlier, Disneyland guests gathered in almost unimaginable anticipation to watch as he became the first man to step foot on the moon. On July 17, 1989, a new attraction opened to guests in Critter Country at Disneyland park — one that made a big splash. That attraction was Splash Mountain, a log ride that remains a guest favorite today. It stands 87 feet tall and drops guests five stories at a 45-degree angle. The attraction is a journey through scenes, featuring the story of Brer Rabbit, Brer Fox and Brer Bear, and ends with a thrilling splashdown. That’s the best part! No worries if you shut your eyes. A photo snaps a shot of guests reacting the moment they drop. If you don’t have a photo from splashdown with your face frozen in sheer elation, then it’s time to visit the Disneyland Resort. Trust me, it’s an experience you’ll always remember. Here’s a look back at opening day. Enjoy! Our rain dance seemed to finally scare off the clouds and bring out the sun here in Costa Rica! Continuing on our teen-focused Adventures by Disney trip, we set off on our white water rafting adventure along the beautiful Tenorio River. While shooting down the roaring rapids and bobbing over gushing waters, I captured some great action shots of our teens rafting down the Tenorio. I have to say, they braved the rapids really well (I’ll let this photo speak for itself)! After our journey through the river, we were treated to some incredible views in Guanacaste, with views overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The natural beauty of this place is absolutely incredible and provided us with some great photo opportunities. With the weather conditions finally improving, our teen photographers started snapping away at photos of the magnificent sunset! As another action-filled day came to an end, our teens showed off their creative side with some really neat late-night light painting on the beach. Tomorrow we will be on a catamaran adventure, where the teens will be snorkeling and shooting some great photos with their Nikon Coolpix water-proof cameras. Dive in with us as we continue on our journey with Adventures by Disney!
