Have you seen “Rivers of Light” yet? The show is a celebration of the beauty, fragility and wild unpredictability of animals and nature that’s told using live performers, Animal Spirit Guide floats, fire, water and projections. But did you know that “Rivers of Light” also features remarkable moments of animals in the wild, as seen in Disneynature films? Moments from Monkey Kingdom, Bears, African Cats and Born in China – which hits theaters for Earth Day 2017 – are all featured. According to the show’s project team, partnering with Disneynature really helped bring the show’s animals to life. And the Disneynature team, who has spent so much time with these animals during production for their own films, were delighted to see the animals they care for be celebrated in a whole new way. “Most of the animals that we are watching out there out on the big water displays we’ve spent two or three years of our lives with,” said Disneynature Director Mark Linfield. “They became like close friends and seeing them in this new context…across these huge sheets of water is really something I think only Disney could’ve done.” Disneynature Alastair Fothergill agrees. “For me, the best bit of ‘Rivers of Light’ is it seemed to me like the most extraordinary family album. All the great stars of Disneynature were there and for the first time we could share them with the guests at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.” Learn more about the collaboration with Disneynature in the videos above. Rose & Crown Dining Room is well known as a family-friendly pub which offers guests British comfort food and stellar views for IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth. Recently, a traditional British favorite, the Sunday Roast, has been added to the menu. Sunday Roast is a traditional British meal, typically consisting of roasted meat, potatoes, vegetables and Yorkshire pudding. At Rose & Crown Dining Room, the dish will alternate weekly among Roasted Pork, Turkey or Lamb with Mint Sauce. Customary sides such as roasted potatoes, peas and carrots, sage and onion stuffing, Yorkshire pudding and gravy accompany the roast. As the name suggests, Sunday Roast will only be served on Sundays. To make reservations at Rose & Crown Dining Room, visit DisneyWorld.com/dining or call 407-WDW-DINE. View the full article

May 27, 2017, marks the opening day of an entire new land in Disney’s Animal Kingdom: Pandora – The World of AVATAR! Pandora Concept Art ©Disney Of course, that also means that the land’s main restaurant, Satu’li Canteen, and drink station, Pongu Pongu, will open on May 27th as well. And today, we have new details regarding these upcoming dining and drinking experiences! Satu’li Canteen Concept Art ©Disney Pongu Pongu Concept Art ©Disney Let’s start with Satu’li Canteen, which – according to the restaurant’s brand new page on the Disney website – will be a “Fast Casual” location. Satu’li Canteen Page Screenshot from Disney World website A few other restaurants (including D-Luxe Burger and Be Our Guest Restaurant) receive the Fast Casual label from Disney World, so we’re guessing that Satu’li Canteen will be the “order your stuffs at a counter and they’ll bring it to your table” kind of place. (And I’d say pay no mind to the “Dining Plans Not Accepted” note just yet; this isn’t unusual when a page is newly listed. We’re pretty sure this spot will take quick service dining credits eventually.) The setting of Satu’li Canteen is a former RDA (Resources Development Administration) Mess Hall located inside a Quonset-hut structure. These days, the Canteen offers a peaceful dining experience for travelers to Pandora and is run by Alpha Centauri Expeditions (ACE). Satu’li Canteen Page Screenshot from Disney World website Though a full menu does not appear on the website yet, it states that guests will “discover healthful dishes and familiar flavors from another world—wholesome grains, fresh vegetables and hearty proteins.” And Disney specifically mentions “international-inspired cuisine, vegetarian options and specialty libations.” We have known for some time that Pongu Pongu – Pandora’s upcoming drink stand – is said to be run by an expatriot who paid a visit to Pandora and decided to stay. Pongu Pongu Page Screenshot from Disney World website From the language on Disney’s website, it seems you may even be able to meet this expat on your visit! “Hike to the corner of Windtraders (Editor’s Note: a shop in Pandora) where you’ll find Pongu Pongu—when you spot a friendly expat serving out-of-this-world drinks, you’ve come to the right place.” Pongu Pongu Page Screenshot from Disney World website Pongu Pongu, which means “Party, Party” in the Na’vi language, will feature a “bioluminescent frozen cocktail” (read: $4.99 light-up ice cube) and “indigenous beers,” along with a bite of something sweet that will be exclusive to the location. We seem to get a tiny glimpse of the treat from the thumbnail image in the screenshot above. Again, no menu yet, but that sounds pretty promising to me! So, which location are YOU most excited about? I don’t think I can decide just yet, but you know DFB will be there as soon as they open! Pandora Construction signs How about you? Will you be visiting Satu’li Canteen, Pongu Pongu, or BOTH when Pandora opens? Please let us know with a comment! We’re launching a new bi-monthly blog post to share all the fun culinary events created by the amazing Food & Beverage team at Walt Disney World Resort – extra-special events that you’ll want to book ahead. You’ll hear about the famous Twinings family (selling tea since 1706) and learn all about the diversity of tea. Master Sommelier George Miliotes, from the soon-to-open Bar George at Disney Springs, is pairing beverages with each dish. There’s also live music and tours of the farm on the back of a truck. Tickets are $175 at edibleorlando.com. Brunch With a Twist Brunch With a Twist, the popular new series at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa that debuted as part of the 2016 Epcot International Food & Wine Festival, returns on May 6. The on-stage kitchen at Cítricos is ideal for the chefs to share cooking techniques, and guests can ask questions while watching the courses being prepared. Each dish is thoughtfully paired with Champagne for the ultimate dining experience. Cost is $169 plus tax (gratuity and valet parking included). For reservations, call 407-939-3463. Today we’re kicking off another week on the Disney Parks Blog with a look at what the magic brooms from “Fantasia” would do if they had the chance to visit a Disney theme park. According to the imagination of artist Ashley Taylor, they’d had to Magic Kingdom Park after hours to do what brooms do best. “The streets of Main Street, U.S.A., are always so clean,” she said. “I like to imagine the brooms from Fantasia using their magic to clean the streets every night!” View the full article

OK, so Columbia Harbour House doesn’t really have a “Shrimp Fest.” I just sort of created one on my recent visit by ordering ALL. THE. SHRIMPS!!!! ;-D Coming right up? Shrimp and Chicken, Fried Shrimp, and Shrimp Mac & Cheese! (Yes, I forgive you if you scroll ahead to see that last one.) Learn About: Columbia Harbour House Magic Kingdom Disney World Restaurants Tucked into a perfectly themed corner of Liberty Square in the Magic Kingdom, Columbia Harbour House has a strong and devoted following. With its menu of consistently popular choices — lots of healthier, lighter, vegetarian choices along with some hearty fish and chips — and its impeccable theming, Columbia Harbour House is a great place to cool down and fuel up when you’re touring the Magic Kingdom. And its location is ideal. It’s a short walk from Frontierland, a stone’s throw from the Haunted Mansion, and holds court in Liberty Square (just before it morphs into Fantasyland around the corner). This place is Americana architecture at its finest. Columbia Harbour House Atmosphere The interior of Columbia Harbour House reinforces the exterior theming (at least that part of the facade that faces Liberty Square). It heavily features wood, from the furniture to the walls. And yeah — you see all those empty tables? That’s why we recommend heading upstairs after you get your food! Fewer people know that there is upstairs seating, so it’s usually a little bit quieter. Upstairs Window Tables at Columbia Harbour House The counter service ordering area continues this design with heavy wooden beams, wood paneling, wooden kiosks. You get the picture. The vibe is seafaring, with ship mastheads, and antique diving suit, miniature ships, naval maps, and more tacked onto the walls. Ordering Area The feeling is definitely one of stepping back in time. Columbia Harbour House Atmosphere Columbia Harbour House Maps and Hidden Mickey Upstairs Dining Area And thankfully, the food here seems to stand the test of time (for the most part). Don’t forget to grab your condiments and other necessities at the condiments stops on your way to your table. Condiments at Columbia Harbour House Condiments at Columbia Harbour House Condiments at Columbia Harbour House Now let’s get to the goodies! Eats In the past, we’ve reviewed some of the most popular dishes (I’m looking at you, Lobster Roll!), and we are happy to see that crowd favorites like the Anchors Aweigh Sandwich and the Lighthouse Sandwich remain among the tasty sandwich options here. Columbia Harbour House Menu This is also a great place to pick up unique options from the kids’ menu and to sample yummy frozen beverages. Remember that you can now add flavored syrups to your drinks and slushes! Columbia Harbour House Menu On this visit, I really wanted to try something new, so I tackled all of the new-ish shrimp dishes on the menu! (I’ve really been into shrimp lately…weird.) We started with the Baked Chicken Breast and Shrimp. Columbia Harbour House Baked Chicken and Shrimp OK, let me start by saying that this is just about the healthiest counter service meal I’ve ever. seen. EVER. If your goal is to stick to your diet and stock up on protein, this is IT, my friends. And, unfortunately, it was super boring, too. The chicken and shrimp were pretty bland. Like…BLAND. Columbia Harbour House Baked Chicken and Shrimp But here’s the silver living: I think the blandness might work for babies who are new to solid foods, kids who hate flavoring of any kind, and people getting over a stomach virus. The couscous was the only winner here. It had great chicken flavor, and there was lots of it. And the broccoli was fine. Columbia Harbour House Couscous After that ho-hum plate of food, I was really hoping for a dynamite shrimp dish — and I found it. Unsurprisingly, perhaps, it was deep fried. Columbia Harbour House Fried Shrimp The Fried Shrimp Platter was just what I hoped it would be. The shrimp were plump, and the breading added texture, flavor, and crunch. Columbia Harbour House Fried Shrimp With just the right amount of seasoning (really, just salt), these guys were so satisfying. They had a great shrimp-to-breading ratio, too, so you didn’t lose the taste of the seafood under a ridiculous amount of coating. Columbia Harbour House Fried Shrimp Since this is a platter, the shrimp come with a massive side of fries. Columbia Harbour House Fried Shrimp and Fries Ours were fresh and delicious. We also received a decent sized container of Cocktail Sauce. It had just the right amount of zing to off-set the richness of the fried shrimp. Columbia Harbour House Cocktail Sauce And in case you were missing your veggies, it comes with a side of Cole Slaw too. Columbia Harbour House Cole Slaw Despite the success of the Fried Shrimp Platter, I wasn’t done yet. I had to order the Shrimp Macaroni and Cheese. You’re welcome. We’ve seen lots of Mac and Cheese incarnations around the Disney Parks (most recently on top of the Mac and Cheese Hot Dog at Casey’s Corner), but I was excited to give this one a try. It’s a pretty hefty serving of Macaroni and Cheese, and there was a lot of shrimp piled on top as well. Columbia Harbour House Shrimp Mac and Cheese This was surprisingly good! The Macaroni and Cheese was creamy and super cheesy (not bland as is sometimes the case). It was rich and savory. The breadcrumbs on top added a little texture, but I was really hoping for some fried shrimp to bring even more crunch to the dish. But luckily, the shrimp weren’t too “watery” on the top as I’d feared. Columbia Harbour House Shrimp Macaroni and Cheese As it is, the shrimp is not incorporated into the Macaroni and Cheese (it’s just kind of placed on top), so if you’re traveling with folks who don’t like shrimp, you could easily share this. And I do recommend sharing. It’s huge, and it’s rich. Columbia Harbour House offers some unique dessert options, and typically, folks love them! Sadly, that was not the case on my visit. I tried the Seasonal Cobbler, expecting a bubbling combination of fruit and topping. And it certainly looked the part. Columbia Harbour House Cobbler There was the crumbly topping, the cinnamon-sugar bits, and a dollop of vanilla sauce. But upon dipping in with a spoon, I found this to be a little tough. I didn’t feel like I was “dipping in” so much as “chipping away.” Columbia Harbour House Cobbler The Cobbler was not tender at all and tasted kind of stale. The fruit flavor (predominantly blueberry) was present and palatable, but it otherwise seemed like it had been sitting around for a while. I know — it looks really good, right? Bummer. Columbia Harbour House Cobbler I’m hoping mine was just a bad batch or maybe accidentally left-over from another era. Blergh. Overall Columbia Harbour House has a siren call that sounds something like “fried fish and chicken and french fries and YUM,” and it’s always worth a visit. And some of these dishes are among the best uses of a Disney Dining Quick Service meal credit. We’ll check in on the Cobbler again to see if we just got unlucky, and – as always – we’ll let you know what we find. Does Columbia Harbour House float your boat? Let us know! To be clear: "Brokeback Mountain," this isn't. And it may sail over the heads of young viewers. But... View the full article

Earlier today, Disneyland Resort guests got a special surprise from Dan Stevens, who stars as the Beast in Disney’s epic new live-action adaptation “Beauty and the Beast”! Following a sneak peek of the film in the Sunset Showcase Theater at Disney California Adventure park, Dan appeared in person to reveal that the entire group of guests in attendance at the theater would be treated to a special advance screening of the film tonight at AMC Theaters in the Downtown Disney District! Take a look at this special moment in the video below. The story and characters audiences know and love come to spectacular life in the live-action adaptation of Disney’s animated classic “Beauty and the Beast,” a stunning, cinematic event celebrating one of the most beloved tales ever told. “Beauty and the Beast” is the fantastic journey of Belle, a bright, beautiful and independent young woman who is taken prisoner by a Beast in his castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle’s enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the Beast’s hideous exterior and realize the kind heart of the true Prince within.
