  2. A happy Friday from Tokyo Disney Resort! This picture, snapped by photographer Tom Bricker just before the park opened, shows the Monorail (with adorable Mickey Mouse-shaped windows), as well as Tokyo Disneyland’s main entrance. Just behind the gates you’ll notice an enclosed building. That’s World Bazaar, the park’s covered version of Main Street, U.S.A., which features shops like Grand Emporium, Disney & Co., Town Center Fashions, Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique and many others. You can also spot the park’s Cinderella Castle behind World Bazaar (with Mount Prometheus at Tokyo DisneySea peeking up behind the castle in this elevated shot), and Big Thunder Mountain off to the far left. 3. Greetings from the Grand Floridian Resort! Grand Floridian Easter Egg Display Easter is always an especially festive time here, thanks to the tradition of the chocolate Easter Egg Display, presented by the Grand Floridian Bakery Team now through April 19th. Grand Floridian Easter Eggs For the sixth year running, these specialty hollow chocolate eggs, decorated with fondant, sugar floral royal icing, cocoa butter, sugar art, and even more chocolate are on display around the Grand Floridian lobby. (The tradition itself is over 20 years old; however, the Eggs were previously only on display in Victoria & Albert’s and the Resort’s other restaurants). Grand Floridian Easter Egg Display Many of the Easter Eggs are preserved from year to year, so if you visited the display in, say, 2016 or 2015, you’ll notice several favorites from years past. Grand Floridian Easter Eggs So today we’re taking a look at some of the new additions for 2017, starting with one of the first to greet you upon entering the lobby: the Evil Queen Egg. Evil Queen Egg I love this new and intricate Lion King Egg, bursting with animals! The Lion King Egg Another standout this year is definitely the Cinderella “One Shoe Can Change Your Life” Egg, with its unusual shape and the glow that emits from the glass slipper. Cinderella Glass Slipper Egg Also utilizing a non-traditional design, this beautiful display — I believe it’s honoring the new Disneynature film, Born in China — shows a Panda family on their own Easter Egg hunt! Panda Easter Egg Hunt Moana received a couple of Egg tributes this year, too. Moana Easter Egg Moana Easter Egg Because there are so many Eggs, they can’t all be contained at the front of the lobby anymore. Grand Floridian Easter Egg Display For instance, this Patriotic Egg sits in the forward center of the room. Patriotic Easter Egg The painted Eggs are always incredibly detailed, too. Painted Easter Egg Be sure to keep an eye out for several of those returning favorites, if you get to visit! BB-8 Easter Egg is Back Find the Frozen Easter Egg next to the Garden View Lounge this year Robin Hood Easter Egg Oh, and look who else just so happened to be at the Grand Floridian during our visit. Bunny outside the Grand Floridian COINCIDENCE?!? I think not. Of course, there’s plenty more Easter fun where that came from… Easter Baskets Easter Treats Any holiday at Disney World is a reason for more SPECIALTY CUPCAKES! Bunny Cupcake at World Premiere Food Court The Contempo Cafe at Contemporary Resort will feature a Carrot Cake Cupcake (with white chocolate filling) and — on Easter Sunday — a Coconut Cupcake filled with chocolate cream will be topped with banana buttercream, bits of white chocolate, and jelly beans. Meanwhile, in Epcot, Fountain View is where you’ll spot the feet and tail of the Easter Bunny decorating a chocolate cupcake with marshmallow filling. ©Disney Look for more jelly bean-topped cupcakes at Sunshine Seasons, too. Main Street Bakery’s vanilla cupcake will be sporting an Easter Bonnet — made of a sugar cookie sandwich — for the occasion. ©Disney For more sweet treats, Chocolate Eggs and Easter Bunnies, along with salted caramel bunny pops, are available at The Ganachery in Disney Springs. 5. Tonight’s “After Dark” image was snapped at the beautiful Disneyland Park at Disneyland Paris. Here, the park’s lovely castle, Le Chateau de la Belle Au Bois Dormant, glitters at dusk. Now celebrating its 25th anniversary with guests, the park has just debuted a slew of new experiences for families to enjoy, including two new shows – Mickey Presents “Happy Anniversary Disneyland Paris” and The Starlit Princess Waltz – as well as the Disney Stars on Parade procession, Disney Illuminations nighttime spectacular, and much more. 6. The magic of nature and its wildlife often takes great patience for the humans who want to revel in it. Disneynature's new film, "Born in China," is a perfect example of that. 7. Our community’s next two Culinary Magic events are just around the corner, and whether you are a parent (a club I happily joined recently), have a parent or know a parent, you may want to check these out. Presented as part of Membership Magic Ever After, these festive celebrations for Disney Vacation Club Members and special guests put a distinctively Disney spin on Mother’s Day at Walt Disney World Resort and Father’s Day at the Disneyland Resort. Reservations are now open for the Disney Vacation Club Member Mother’s Day Brunch, taking place on May 14 from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in the Fantasia Ballroom at the Disney’s Contemporary Resort. Priced at $53.95 for adults and $29.95 for kids ages 3-9 (plus tax and gratuity), this year’s brunch theme – “You’ll Be in My Heart” – draws inspiration from the unconditional love and unbreakable family bond celebrated in the Walt Disney Animation Studios hit “Tarzan.” Beyond the bountiful buffet of traditional brunch favorites, the Mother’s Day Brunch will feature music from “Tarzan” and beyond performed by a live guitarist, mimosas for Moms (and other attendees of legal age) and visits with some of your other favorite jungle friends. On April 19, reservations are scheduled to open for the Disney Vacation Club Member Father’s Day Lunch, taking place on June 18 from noon-2 p.m. in the Sequoia Ballroom at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. Priced at $53.95 for adults and $29.95 for kids ages 3-9 (plus tax and gratuity), this year’s lunch celebrates Super Dads (a title I aspire to earn) with a feast fit for a hero. BBQ baby back ribs and buttermilk fried chicken are among the hungry-Dad staples on the buffet, with fathers also receiving a “Super-Sized” cookie that I’m told is designed to be shared with one’s kids. (Wait, if being a Super Dad requires sharing your cookie, I’ll settle for the title of Really Good Dad.) Kids can pose with their paternal hero in three different photo locations designed to celebrate what’s super about their Dads, with other activities ranging from a DJ dance party, “Super Smart” Disney trivia, crafts for kids to create for Dads and more. Both events personally cater to families with tables custom-set for their party size. Call Member Services for reservations, and enjoy your celebration! Menu, activities, entertainment and Characters are subject to change. Guests must be 21 years old with a photo I.D. to consume alcohol. 11. Four decades after its debut, the “Star Wars” franchise inspires fans to stand in long, hot lines, camp overnight in a convention center, dress up like ewoks and get sentimental. 12. It takes the pastry team at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa months to design, mold, carve, sculpt and paint the stunning chocolate Easter eggs, which adorn the lobby of the resort. Inspired by beloved Disney characters, films and more, these creative confections are each a work of art. To celebrate Easter, I’m sharing a photo tour of some of my personal favorite eggs – take a look at the gallery below! The chocolate Easter eggs will be on display at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa until April 29. Special thanks to photographer Matt Stroshane for the egg-ceptional photos. View the full article
  13. I love Easter. Growing up, my family always had such a big celebration. One tradition that I’ve continued with my daughter, Raven, is an Easter egg hunt. Last year we topped the number of eggs at 102! Our fabulous, Brittany Ungvarsky, created an “eggtastic” hunt for you, our Disney Parks Blog family! She hid a total of 13 beautiful eggs. Don’t worry if you can’t find them all. We’ll post a finder key after Easter. PS – Brittany and a new artist on our team, Ashley Loonam, designed the eggs based on characters from “Disney’s Alice in Wonderland.” As an extra challenge, try to identify each one! 14. Club 33 is the stuff of legend — not only to Disneyland visitors, but to Disney fans EVERYWHERE. Club 33 Seating This members-only restaurant, located in Disneyland’s New Orleans Square, was originally designed by Walt Disney and used as a space to entertain friends and VIPs. These days, access is gained via a hefty initial membership fee in addition to annual dues. Though the location itself has seen changes over the years, a dining experience at Club 33 remains elusive to most Disneyland guests. For some time now, rumors have been swirling that Walt Disney World may be getting a Club 33 of its own, and those rumors are starting to pick up more steam. Club 33 Inside Entrance In fact — though not yet confirmed by Disney — our anonymous sources tell us not only that Disney World will indeed be getting its own location. It will, in fact, be getting FOUR. Each Disney World park — Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, and Hollywood Studios — will be getting its own Club 33 location. And it’s anticipated that these will be lounges, not restaurants — similar to 1901 Lounge in Disney California Adventure, or Club 33’s own Nouveau Lounge. (Though these locations feature food menus that could easily provide a meal.) Where will Club 33 be located in Magic Kingdom? Currently, it seems that this will be an entirely exclusive membership from those of other Club 33 locations worldwide. So, if you’re a Disneyland Club 33 member, you’ll need to purchase a separate Disney World Club 33 membership…and vice versa. We’re hearing that the cost will be as high — or higher — than Disneyland’s Club 33 (so, we’re talking at least $10-30K for initial membership, plus thousands for annual dues), but nothing’s confirmed. And now, for the final question: WHEN will all of this take place? You might want to start feeding ol’ piggy bank ASAP, because the locations could be opening as early as this fall. Soooo… whaddya think? Would you like to see Disney World get its own Club 33? Please let us know with a comment! Disney Food Blog Fans, be sure to check out our DFB Disney World Dining Guide e-Books! 19. Breakfast lovers, rejoice! Today is National Eggs Benedict Day and to celebrate, I’m sharing my favorite Disney takes on the classic breakfast (or brunch) dish at Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort. Crab Cake Eggs Benedict, Olivia’s Café, Disney’s Old Key West Resort Poached eggs with a Key West twist—crab cakes and key lime hollandaise served on an English muffin with a side of potato casserole. The Samoan, Kona Cafe, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort No traditional English muffin here, at Kona Cafe poached eggs with hollandaise are served over a smoked pulled pork hash and English muffin croutons. Crab Cake Eggs Benedict, Geyser Point Bar & Grill, Disney’s Wilderness Lodge At this quick-service location, you’ll find poached eggs, spinach and hollandaise served on top of crab cakes instead of an English muffin – served with potato hash or fresh fruit. Lobster Eggs Benedict, Narcoossee’s, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa During the Waterfront Brunch, you’ll find a butter-poached Maine lobster with country ham, soft-poached eggs and citrus hollandaise on a toasted English muffin. Eggs Benedict, Trail’s End Restaurant, Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground On the breakfast buffet, you’ll find a delicious, rustic version topped with pulled pork. Eggs Benedict, Captain’s Grille, Disney’s Yacht Club Resort One of the more traditional takes on the dish, Captain’s Grille serves poached eggs with Serrano ham and hollandaise on an English muffin. At Disneyland Resort, you’ll find three varieties of eggs benedict at Steakhouse 55 at Disneyland Hotel: • Classic with poached eggs, Canadian bacon and hollandaise on an English muffin • Serrano Ham with poached eggs, steamed asparagus and blood orange hollandaise on a homemade cornmeal biscuit • Smoked Salmon with poached eggs, caviar and hollandaise on an English muffin What is your favorite way to enjoy eggs benedict? 20. You have until April 16 to sip and taste your way through more than a dozen different Festival Marketplaces at the Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival, each with a menu inspired by California-grown ingredients. One of the most unusual offerings is the Jackfruit Carnitas Banh Mi Nachos with Cilantro Crema and “Pickled” de Gallo, available at Off the Cobb Marketplace. The main ingredient, jackfruit, is a nutritious member of the fig family; vegetarians often make a meatless barbecue with this sweet fruit, since barbecue sauce is often sweet. Give these vegetarian nachos with a sweet kick a try — they’re even vegan if you omit the sauce! This video shows how the nachos are made. Don’t miss all the flavor and fun of the festival! 22. Spring is in the air in Central Florida, and special Easter eats are hopping into restaurants across Walt Disney World Resort. From sweet treats to stunning displays, there’s a perfect way for everyone to celebrate Easter with some “bunny” special. The famous chocolate egg displays are back at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa and Disney’s Contemporary Resort. Beautiful chocolate eggs are sculpted, painted and ornately decorated by the talented pastry teams at each resort. Be sure to check out the displays before they disappear on April 29, just taking in sights and smells is a treat in itself. While you’re at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, be sure to visit Contempo Café, where they have two specialty cupcakes. A Carrot Cake Cupcake with white chocolate filling and cream cheese buttercream frosting, garnished with toasted coconut and carrot powder will be available until April 29. On April 16, a special Easter cupcake will also be available; coconut cake is filled with chocolate cream before being topped with banana buttercream frosting, white chocolate shavings and jelly beans. If you’re looking to fill an Easter basket, be sure to stop at The Ganachery at Disney Springs! With four flavors of foil-wrapped eggs, a salted caramel bunny pop and adorable milk and dark chocolate Easter bunnies, you’ll find all the chocolate treats you need to assemble a decadent Easter basket. Hop on over to Epcot, you’ll find two specialty cupcakes. Fountain View has a chocolate cupcake with marshmallow filing, buttercream frosting bunny feet and a tail. And at Sunshine Seasons, a chocolate chip cupcake is filled with chocolate-caramel mousse, topped with buttercream, crushed chocolate cookies and jelly beans. At Main Street Bakery in Magic Kingdom Park, you’ll find a special vanilla cupcake with vanilla buttercream, topped with an “Easter bonnet” sugar cookie sandwich, filled with jam, coated in white chocolate. Over at the BoardWalk (just a hop, skip and a jump away from Epcot), BoardWalk Bakery will offer adorable pink or blue bunny macarons from April 7 to 16. Across Walt Disney World Resort, you will also find special Easter breakfast and brunch buffets including Boma – Flavors of Africa at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, Cape May Cafe and Disney’s Beach Club Resort, Captain’s Grille at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, The Wave…of American Flavors at Disney’s Contemporary Resort and Trail’s End Restaurant. 23. If you haven’t heard the big news, I’m here to deliver it: April is Grilled Cheese Month. And that, my friends, is a food holiday that we can totally get behind. Because we know of a BUNCH of seriously worthy grilled cheese choices in the Disney parks and resorts that we can’t wait to tell you about! And if you love what you see here, be sure to check out our 2017 DFB Guide to Walt Disney World Dining, which includes tons of bonus features, like fun food crawls throughout Walt Disney World! Now pack your bags and your stretchy pants, cause it’s time to head to both coasts to partake in the Disney Food Blog Grilled Cheese Crawl! (Should there be Rocky music playing here or something? I feel like there should be.) Who’s coming with? Let’s go! Our first stop: Walt Disney World! Pimento Grilled Cheese, Planet Hollywood Observatory If you were there with us when Planet Hollywood Observatory opened (or actually, reopened) its doors earlier this year, then you know that we weren’t all that impressed with most of what we tried. But there was one standout: the Pimento Grilled Cheese. Pimento Grilled Cheese — Up Close The triple decker sandwich is two meals in one. First, you have a fairly traditional Grilled Cheese, spiced up with the addition of Pimento Cheese. But then, the second story involved super cheesy Mac and Cheese layered between crunchy Grilled Bread. Yep, that’s A Layer of Carbs on Top of More Carbs. And we are completely fine with that. Grilled Cheese and Tomato Bisque, Beaches and Cream Tuck into a Big Bowl of Childhood with the Grilled Cheese and Tomato Bisque at Beaches and Cream Soda Shop. Grilled Cheese Sandwich and Tomato Bisque at Beaches and Cream There’s absolutely nothing fancy about this duo; it’s just sammy and soup perfected. The Tomato Bisque is creamy and perfectly seasoned. And the sandwich combines a blend of Six Different Cheeses on buttered and griddled White Bread. I can’t promise that you won’t want to curl up with your blankie and take a nap after this one. Croque Monsieur, Be Our Guest Restaurant Lunch Next, head to Be Our Guest for lunch, and enjoy a French Classic, the Croque Monsieur. Croque Monsieur In Beast’s version of the popular dish, Carved Ham and Gruyere appear alongside Bechamel Sauce on Whole Grain Bread. Pommes Frites round out the plate. While it may not look all that interesting, I promise you that the sharp, nutty flavor of the Gruyere makes this one something special. If you’d rather get your cheesy fix in the morning, you can opt for the Open Faced Bacon and Egg Sandwich for breakfast. Open-Face Bacon and Egg Sandwich for Breakfast at Be Our Guest Restaurant While the sandwich isn’t technically grilled, the warm Bacon and Poached Egg rest atop soft Brie, and the whole dish is delightfully decadent. Three Times a Boxty, Raglan Road Sometimes you don’t need bread to make a sandwich at all. That’s definitely the case at Raglan Road, where their Three Times a Boxty makes our list of stops on the Grilled Cheese Crawl. In place of bread, the “sandwich” is built with two Boxties, or Irish Potato Cakes that are made with a combination of shredded and mashed potatoes. Three Times a Boxty The cakes are grilled, and Ham and Dubliner Cheese are placed between them. A Fried Egg on top completes the dish. The first time we tried this one, we wondered what in the world took us so long to find it! Brie aux Pommes, Les Halles Boulangerie Patisserie One of our favorite spots for a quick breakfast, lunch, or afternoon snack in Epcot is Les Halles Boulangerie Patisserie in the France Pavilion. The counter service stop offers traditional French delicacies in a charming setting. Les Halles offers a Croque Monsieur of course, but since we already had one of those at Be Our Guest, I’m suggesting that you sample their Brie aux Pommes, or Apple and Brie Sandwich, when you stop here. Brie and Apple Sandwich A Multigrain Baguette plays host to Poached Apples and Sliced Brie. When the cast member behind the counter asks you if you’d like it heated, say yes. That way, the cheese delightfully melts into the apples and bread, and makes this simple sandwich so, so satisfying and delicious. And now, let’s jet off to Disneyland for the second half of our Grilled Cheese Crawl! Next Stop: Disneyland! Three Cheese Monte Cristo, Cafe Orleans Anytime I’m in Disneyland, one of my first stops is always Cafe Orleans, where I rarely resist the urge to order their Monte Cristo Sandwich. This battered and deep fried sandwich is a delightful mashup between lunch and dessert — and it will keep you going for hours! The really awesome thing here is that you can get the traditional version with Sliced Ham, Turkey, and Swiss Cheese. Or, you can opt for the Three Cheese version. Three-Cheese Monte Cristo at Disneyland’s Cafe New Orleans This yummo sammy combines Swiss, Mozzarella, and Double-Cream Brie for an ooey gooey sammy that’s irresistible. Cheddar Cheese Stick, Corn Dog Castle Sure, there’s a lot to love about Corn Dog Castle. You can’t really go wrong with their Hand Dipped Corn Dogs, or with their spicy version made with Hot Link Sausages. But today, we’re enjoying a meatless version — the Cheese Stick Corn Dog! Cheese Stick Corn Dog Who? WHO came up with the brilliant idea to take a Cheddar Cheese Stick, dip it in Corn Dog Batter, and fry it up? We don’t know, but we’re pretty sure this person is our hero. Want something extra fun? Go for a DFB Disneyland Snack Hack, and pick up a FREE side of Marinara Sauce from Boardwalk Pizza and Pasta to make a Saucy Cheddar Cheese Stick. Trust me. You’ll thank us. Jolly Holiday Combo, Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe Sad that you don’t have your own Beaches and Cream, Disneyland? You don’t have to be. At least not when it comes to Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup Combos. Because you can find one of the best at Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe in Disneyland Park. Jolly Holiday Combo The best thing about this version of our favorite (besides that we get to sit in Jolly Holiday and eat it, with the promise of a killer dessert to come) is that the sandwich is cut into fingers. I don’t know exactly why, but that makes me smile every single time. Fajita Quesadilla Rolls, Cove Bar Finally, when is a grilled cheese not really a grilled cheese, but it still kinda is? When it’s a Fajita Quesadilla Roll at Cove Bar. Besides being one of our favorite stops for its gorgeous views and fantastic secret drink menu, we also love Cove Bar for its inventive approach to pub grub. And the Grilled Quesadilla Rolls are one of our favorite selections. Fajita Quesadilla Rolls Grilled Flour Tortillas (See?! Grilled!) are stuffed with Chicken, Onions, Peppers, Monterey Jack Cheese (See?! Cheese!) and Avocado Relish, then topped with Guajillo Sauce and the Chipotle Crema. How can you not love the sound of that? We’ve covered sammies for dipping, grilled cheese with a French accent, inventive bread stand ins, deep fried options, and a rolled up version. Really. There’s no end to Grilled Cheese wonderfulness. Happy Grilled Cheese Month! Don’t Miss Out on Any Disney Fun! The 2017 DFB Guide to Walt Disney World Dining, Second Edition, is now available!
