  7. This classic Peach Cobbler is a favorite at Liberty Inn at American Adventure pavilion at Epcot, inspired from a recipe featured in What Mrs. Fisher Knows About Old Southern Cooking, the first cookbook authored by an African-American. Abby Fisher, who was a cook, was born into slavery in Alabama and moved to San Francisco after the Civil War. There she started a business where she made and sold pickles and preserves. Unable to read or write, Mrs. Fisher dictated her recipes – including the one below – to a member of the Women’s Cooperative Printing Office in San Francisco. What Mrs. Fisher Knows About Old Southern Cooking was published in 1881. In honor of Black History Month, you can enjoy this dish at Liberty Inn at Epcot. You can also see an original copy of the cookbook in the pavilion’s exhibit “Re-Discovering America,” Family Treasures from the Kinsey Collection, which is included in park admission. The recipe makes individual servings, and it’s delicious with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Peach Cobbler Serves 8 COBBLER DOUGH 1 cup all-purpose flour 1/4 cup sugar 1/4 cup brown sugar 1 teaspoon baking soda 1/4 teaspoon salt 4 tablespoons butter, cut into small pieces 1/4 cup boiling water, divided OAT TOPPING 3/4 cup all-purpose flour 1/2 cup sugar 3/4 cup old fashioned oats 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 1/2 cup butter, melted PEACH FILLING 1/3 cup peach juice, divided 1/3 cup brown sugar 1 pound (4 cups) frozen peaches 1 tablespoon cornstarch FOR COBBLER DOUGH: Combine flour, sugar, brown sugar, baking soda, and salt in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with a paddle attachment. Mix on low speed, slowly adding butter until dough is crumbly. Add boiling water, 1 tablespoon at a time, until dough is soft and no longer crumbly. Roll dough into log 3 inches wide. Cover in plastic wrap and chill for 4 hours or until firm. FOR OAT TOPPING: Mix flour, sugar, oats, and cinnamon in a medium bowl. Stir in melted butter. Refrigerate until ready to use. FOR PEACH FILLING: Combine 2 tablespoons of peach juice with brown sugar in a large sauté pan over medium heat for 3 minutes, or until sugar dissolves. Add frozen peaches and cook, stirring occasionally, for 15 minutes, until peaches are soft. Mix cornstarch with remaining peach juice. Pour into warm peaches and stir until juice is thick. Set aside. FOR PEACH COBBLER: Preheat oven to 350°F. Place 8 (8-ounce) ramekins on a baking sheet. Fill each ramekin with 1/4 cup of peach filling. Slice cobbler dough into 8 slices and place on top of peaches. Top each slice of dough with 1/4 cup of oat crumble. Bake 20 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm. View the full article
  8. During a recent expedition on Kilimanjaro Safaris at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, I was surprised to spot the Disney Delivery Guy on the savanna. “Rivers of Light” will celebrate the kinship of all living things during this nighttime water and light show at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. We have created several logo products for this new show including apparel for adults and kids. Annual Passholders should look for a unique T-shirt created especially for them (make sure to show a valid Annual Pass to purchase). Other souvenir items include a magnet, a coffee mug, an light-up ear hat ornament, and an open edition logo pin. As seen in the video above, we are introducing a new animal-themed totem pole wand to the Made with Magic collection. The wand allows guests to become a part of the show by lighting up in time with or in the same color scheme at select nighttime spectaculars at Disney Parks. The new wand is similar to the previously released Sorcerer Mickey wand seen in this video in that you can change the color patterns of other select Made with Magic items. Look for these items in select Walt Disney World Resort merchandise locations when Rivers of Light comes alive at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. View the full article

  10. Sugar and spice, and everything nice … that’s what Valentine’s Day is made for! It doesn’t matter if you’re single or paired up, at Disney Springs, there’s a sweet seasonal treat for every taste bud. I had a tough time narrowing down my list of favorites to just five, but below are some of the top stops I strongly suggest this Valentine’s Day (and in many cases, through the month of February!), plus my recommendation on what to try: Amorette’s Patisserie: The new Enchanted Rose Cake was inspired by “Beauty and the Beast” and while it’s as beautiful as Belle, it’s just as complex, too. This decadent dome features layers of lemon chiffon cake, white chocolate mousse, raspberry pâté de fruit jelly and Italian buttercream. It’s a masterpiece, just like the film! D-Luxe Burger: I’ve already shared details on the new “Duo Meals,” debuting this month, so allow me to also tout the latest seasonal shake. A liquid take on the chocolate-covered strawberry, this perfectly blended beverage is a creamy, dreamy delight. (You could share it with your better half … but after one sip, you may not want to!) Erin McKenna’s Bakery NYC: When you or your love lusts after a Gluten-free, Vegan Valentine bite, anything on the menu will fit the bill. Though I don’t have any allergies, I’ve been known to indulge at this fan-favorite, where heart-shaped morsels are currently available from the pastry case. The Ganachery: If love is a fairy-tale, then these champagne-flavored chocolates are the happy ending we all dream of. Created in honor of the 25th anniversary of Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings, these new chocolates celebrate true love. My favorite touch? The Cinderella coach stamped (in edible chocolate) on each melt-in-your-mouth morsel. Sprinkles Cupcakes: The Raspberry Chocolate Chip Cupcake is a limited-time temptation that pairs Belgian dark chocolate cake with luscious raspberry frosting and chocolate chips. If one cupcake simply isn’t enough, design your own box or select from one of their carefully curated “sweetheart” dozens. With so many options, the list could go on … so if I’ve missed your favorite, let me know in the comments below – there’s still time for me to fit in a few more tastes! View the full article
  11. Love is definitely in the air! When our team brainstormed this Valentine’s DIY we kept returning to different examples of how our cherished Disney characters showed love for each other. Flynn gave Rapunzel the lighted lantern as a symbol of his love for her. Cutie pies Gus Gus and Jacque showed their affection for Cinderella by helping her to escape from the attic. Finally, who better to represent warm fondness than our favorite, Mickey Mouse – he hasn’t found a pal he didn’t love! Our Brittany Ungvarsky has created an amazing do-it-yourself Valentine’s display featuring the favorites we just listed. You’ll be able to showcase cards and photos as examples of your own love! You can find the Valentine’s display template here and the instructions to assemble the display here! Xoxo View the full article
  12. Chef Daniel Sicilia took the helm in the kitchen about six months ago at Jiko—The Cooking Place at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, and new Pastry Chef Michael Craig recently joined the resort’s culinary team, together creating an almost-all-new menu for the popular restaurant. Jiko means “cooking place” in Swahili, and the restaurant’s menu pays homage to the African theme in a beautiful dining room inspired by Disney’s “The Lion King.” Wood-burning ovens scent the dining room with crisp flatbreads like the Mozambican chicken with sweet plaintains, Cape gooseberries, cashews and coconut mayonnaise. There are plenty of unusual names and ingredients in the subtly spiced dishes, but servers are happy to help you navigate the adventurous menu. Guests will always find a filet on the menu, but the sides that accompany are seasonal and ever changing. Ditto the bone-in short rib. A version of maize-crusted fish in tomato-butter sauce has always been on the menu, but now Chef Daniel is using perch from Lake Victoria in Africa. Durham Ranch elk loin and Mrouzia-style lamb tagine are new dishes, and buttery-sweet scallops are paired with Berkshire pork belly. A guest favorite is “Taste of Africa,” all made in-house with pappadam, sesame fatir and flax seed naan, served with a variety of dips including hummus, green chermoula, goat butter and mango chutney. A brand-new starter is Manti Dumplings, filled with boar, bison and elk and served with spicy tomato sauce and saffron yogurt. And Chef Daniel’s charcuterie is always evolving, made in-house with whatever meats they are sourcing for the kitchen. For sweet endings, the new Kilimanjaro is a favorite of chocolate fans with Tanzanian chocolate mousse, pistachio financier, pink peppercorn meringue, cacao nib crunch and pineapple flavored with ras el hanout, a Moroccan spice blend. There’s a strawberry shortcake with local berries and sweet potato cheesecake with sweet apple chutney. Chef Michael is tweaking all the desserts, paired nicelt with teas and after-dinner drinks. Jiko has the largest offering of South African wines anywhere in the United States, with more than 125 of South Africa’s boutique wineries showcasing their vintages at the restaurant, and was awarded Wine Spectator’s Award of Excellence. For reservations, call 407/WDW-DINE. View the full article
  13. The start of the 2017 Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival is only a few weeks away. Today, I have a sneak preview of new products created this annual springtime celebration that returns to Walt Disney World Resort from March 1 to May 29. This year, guests will find new artwork from Disney Design Group including stylized images of Mickey and Minnie Mouse, and pastel-colored, geometric patterns featuring Figment. New merchandise will include apparel, headware (the Mouse ear headband is fun!), home décor, and souvenirs. We’ll release five Dooney & Bourke handbags including, by popular demand, a larger sized Weekender bag. A ShellieMay plush bear dressed in gardening attire and three Figment-inspired garden decorations will also be offered. For Disney pin collectors, look for a limited release logo pin along with several limited edition pins. The four-pin, limited edition pin set features Disney characters such as Orange Bird or Judy Hopps from Disney’s “Zootopia.” Annual Passholders will find several unique products such as apparel for women and men; a TERVIS wine goblet; a collectible coin; and a limited edition pin. For the first time, we are introducing a limited release logo pin created only for Passholders. In order to purchase these items, Passholders must present a valid Annual Pass at time of purchase. Finally, I’m thrilled to announce the return of the Egg-stravaganza to Epcot. From March 1 to May 29 (or while supplies last), search for special hidden “eggs” themed to Disney characters and record your discoveries by placing the corresponding sticker on the specially themed map to represent that location. Maps and stickers can be purchased for $5.99, plus tax. To participate, visit Pin Central – Future World, Disney Traders at the entrance to World Showcase, or World Traveler at International Gateway. For guests at Disneyland Resort, stay tuned to Disney Parks Blog for details about the Egg-stravaganza returning later this spring. Look for these items and more at the Festival Center located in Future World between Mission: SPACE and Universe of Energy. The location will have expanded operating hours during opening week, Wednesday, March 1 to Sunday, March 5. During the remaining weeks of the Festival, the center will be open Friday through Sunday. Guests may also find additional products in select merchandise locations throughout Epcot. For more information on the Festival, check out epcotinspring.com. View the full article
  14. HELLOOOOO from Disney’s Wilderness Lodge! Learn About: Geyser Point Bar & Grill Disney World Restaurants We’re here to check out all the eats and drinks at the BRAND NEW Geyser Point Bar & Grill located near Silver Creek Springs Pool (the Resort’s main pool). This new spot blends right in with the Pacific Northwest feel of this beautiful Resort, and we’re happy to show you around! By the way, this opening coincides with temporary closures of two eateries at the Lodge: Roaring Fork, a Counter Service option, and Trout Pass Pool Bar. These locations will reopen later this year once their refurbishments are complete. Therefore, in its opening months, Geyser Point will be THE place for Counter Service breakfast, lunch, AND dinner at Wilderness Lodge (and Territory Lounge will serve continental breakfast options and coffee until 2 pm daily). But there’s more to it than that, as you’re about to see… Geyser Point Bar & Grill sign … as you join us for our first trip to Geyser Point Bar & Grill! Atmosphere To find Geyser Point, just head outside towards the lake (and to the right of Trout Pass Pool Bar). That’s where your eyes will be treated to this brand new facade: Geyser Point Bar & Grill The plentiful stone and cedar offers a natural extension to the rustic feel of the Lodge, while also lending a refined atmosphere to the new space. Geyser Point Bar & Grill Geyser Point Bar & Grill Geyser Point Bar & Grill The overall effect is simultaneously simple and beautiful. And the spot makes the most of its location by the lake so you can take in some terrific views of the water. Geyser Point Bar & Grill The view In fact it was even cloudy on our opening day visit, which only helped that Pacific Northwest feel! Pacific Northwest-themed clouds ;) You can grab a seat at any one of the high back stools around the large bar area and just take in whatever is on TV (which, when we arrived, was airing park schedules and menu pictures; but regular stations can, of course, also be shown — and thus, my next Super Bowl viewing space ;-D ). Better yet, you can always chat with some of the stellar Wilderness Lodge Cast Members. Bar area There is also table seating in abundance, with much of it lining the open air perimeter. Table Seating Some cozier spaces with lower tables, though, encourage you to lounge for a while with a drink and some friends (made comfortable by the presence of ceiling fans OR heaters, depending on the weather). Low Tables and Cushioned Seating Fans and Heaters on the Ceiling And speaking of cozy, I’m going to make it a point to come back here some evening and enjoy the fireplace! Fireplace Honestly, due to Geyser Point being an outdoor location, I think I was expecting a rather glorified pool bar — which is not to say that the Disney Pool Bars aren’t tons of fun. In fact, some of them rank among my favorite vacation spots in Disney World. But Geyser Point decidedly has its own feel, making it a destination in and of itself. And now, let’s check out what exactly is happening at the BAR and GRILL parts of Geyser Point ! Eats Geyser Point blends two different dining styles (Table Service and Counter Service) and two different menus, with the unique feature that you can enjoy both styles at once if you wish — we’ll explain that a little later. First, let’s check out the bar menu, starting with the beverages. Geyser Point Bar Menu The Featured Cocktails, it’s worth noting, are exclusive to Geyser Point, and they each feature at least one spirit from a Northwest distillery. Click the images to zoom in. Featured Cocktails According to the bartenders, Huckleberry Punch will best suit fans of sweet drinks. The Cascadia Sangria Cocktail will err on the side of tart due to the use of merlot. The Northwest Iced Tea is, of course, a spin on a classic Long Island, made with Aviation Gin (from Portland, Oregon), which lends lavender and citrus flavors as opposed to juniper. We’ll show you the rest of the beverage menu shortly, but we wanted to try one from the Featured list, so we went with the Black Cherry Mule. All drinks are served in plastic ware even at the bar area, which is to be expected in such close proximity to the main pool. In fact, while Trout Pass Pool Bar is closed for refurbishment, guests can be served their food and drink in the pool area as well. Black Cherry Mule The Black Cherry Mule is full of flavor, with the strength of the black cherry balanced by the zesty Ginger Beer and mildly sweet agave. Variations of Mules are popping up everywhere these days, and the black cherry offers an unexpected twist. Black Cherry Mule The Wine selections feature Northwest vineyards, primarily. Wine Menu And the Beer menu even offers a few Northwest brewery choices, among others. Beer Menu Of course, some tried-and-true Disney Pool Bar drinks can be found here, too. Disney Pool Drinks There is also a bit of “Rustic Fare” on the bar menu (along with a few non-alcoholic drinks), made up of a selection of appetizers and small plates. Rustic Fare and Non-Alcoholic Beverage Menu It was honestly a bit hard to choose, since the Rustic Fare menu offers some unique choices in the world of Disney World appetizers. It was NOT difficult, however, to realize we wanted to order the Cheesy Barbecue Brisket with house-made chips immediately (and, yes, that is a wooden board the whole thing is served on)! Cheesy Barbecue Brisket with house-made chips The Cheesy Barbecue Brisket is a shareable dip (IF you’re feeling generous ) . The “cheesy” part is composed of Provolone and Tillamook Cheddar, and is garnished with a few jalapeño slices. Cheesy Barbecue Brisket Oh, you can get as many chip refills as you need to polish off the dip! House-made Chips Now, you may get as caught up as we did in the savory, mildly spicy, wonderful cheesy goodness of this dip-that-eats-like-a-meal. Even so, don’t forget to catch up on the “Specialty Times” lining your wooden plate ! Specialty Times paper accent And, yeah… you guessed it. It pretty much comes with the job to ALWAYS order up any and all Charcuterie boards. (Tough work, but somebody’s gotta do it!) Handcrafted Charcuterie The Handcrafted Charcuterie comes with sourdough crisps, prosciutto, salami, shaved parmesan reggiano, arugula, mini pickles, and honey grain mustard. Handcrafted Charcuterie The side jar is filled with duck rillette (which resembles a pâté). Duck Rillette Prosciutto and Salami In all, I’d have to say, “More cheese, please!” But aside from wanting another hearty cheese or two, I still thought the portion, plating, and cool addition of the rillette among the meat selections combine to make this a solid offering. The seafood options we chose fall more under the category of “small plates,” starting with the Crispy Fried Oysters, which are served on top of shaved sweet potatoes with a Miso Tartar Sauce on the side. Crispy Fried Oysters Miso Tartar Sauce Shaved Sweet Potatoes The oysters were tasty, but a lot of that actually had to do with the breading. Crispy Fried Oysters These things were HEAVY on the bread, so the oyster flavor was somewhat hidden. Seafood lovers may be a bit deterred. Fried Oyster cross-section Finally, we chose the Shrimp on a Wire with Miso Lime Vinaigrette, togarashi, shishito peppers, and chili aioli. Shrimp on a Wire with miso lime vinaigrette The shrimp are smoked, and were also very fresh and spicy. Another winner. Shrimp on a Wire So, we’ve gone over the full bar menu. But we’re not done yet! Geyser Point Bar & Grill also offers Quick Service fare, via a walkup window. Quick Service Walkup Window Breakfast, lunch, and dinner entrees are all available here. Alas, we’re out of Specialty Mickey Waffles until the Roaring Fork’s refurbishment is complete. But items like the Eggs Benedict (served on a Cheddar Biscuit!), Crab Cake Eggs Benedict, Maple Cinnamon Pancakes and Apple Compote, and Smoked Salmon Everything Bialy (as opposed to a standard bagel) can fill the void… for now . Breakfast Menu The lunch and dinner menu offers some Counter Service items that you’d expect, with a Smoked Turkey Sandwich and Classic Bacon Cheeseburger. But a Bison Cheeseburger, Grilled Salmon BLT, and Grilled Portobello Salad up the Counter Service ante a bit. Lunch and Dinner Menu Here’s the thing: yes, you can order from the walkup window. You’ll receive a number and they’ll bring your food to your table when it’s ready, or you can carry it over to the pool or what have you, as per usual. But let’s say you’re perfectly happy at your seat in the bar and dining area, yet you’d prefer a meal over the appetizers. Well, good news! Your server can bring you the Counter Service menu, as well as take your order and deliver your food right to you, so it’s a pretty cool set up. Table Menu for Counter Service options We ordered the Bison Cheeseburger which, like the other burgers and sandwiches, is served with Waffle Fries (unless you opt for the Multi-Grain Salad as your side). Bison Cheeseburger and Waffle Fries Bison Cheeseburger The toppings here are pretty hefty, with Tillamook Cheddar, sweet onion straws and Marionberry Barbecue Sauce covering the bison meat (with tomato and lettuce underneath), so this next picture gives a better idea of the burger itself. Bison Cheeseburger cross-section It’s cool to have the option of the leaner bison meat, and I thought this sandwich was prepared well. I especially enjoyed the Marionberry Barbecue Sauce, which has a tart-and-sweet tang as opposed to a typical barbecue — a great, tasty touch. The Lump Crab Cake Sandwich was another nice surprise (and is also accompanied by the Waffle Fries). Lump Crab Cake Sandwich with Waffle Fries Lump Crab Cake Sandwich Toppings here include a spicy cabbage-carrot slaw (which I honestly didn’t find to be particularly spicy), while the Crab Cake is served over some of the house-made Canadian Bacon, which you’ll also find on the Eggs Benedict from the Breakfast menu. Lump Crab Cake Sandwich The crab cake was completely PACKED with crab, with hardly any bread filler at all; just enough to bind. Lump Crab Cake Sandwich cross-section It’s also grilled instead of fried, so that great crab flavor really comes through. For dessert, the options are a Chocolate Brownie Mousse with caramel popcorn and toasted meringue, and a Seasonal Pie. I was expecting something along the lines of the Counter Service Apple Blossom-type staple, but I was SO wrong! I was pleased to find out that the seasonal selection is starting out with a Dried Cranberry and Apple Pie. Seasonal Dried Cranberry and Apple Pie There was a TON of fruit inside the buttery shell (this cross-section picture shows just half of the fruit inside). Seasonal Dried Cranberry and Apple Pie cross-section Seasonal Dried Cranberry and Apple Pie cross-section It’s a pretty nice change of pace from your typical Quick Service dessert, and was a nice way to end our first — but definitely not last — stop at Geyser Point Bar & Grill. Overall You know, I really wasn’t sure what to expect from Geyser Point Bar & Grill, with its unusual bar-meets-Counter-Service-meets-Table Service hybrid setup. Turns out, it totally works! Geyser Point offers service styles and flavors — with just enough cohesion in the Northwest-themed menu options — to meet a range of tastes and guest needs in a setting that will please… well, just about anybody, in my opinion! There really seems to be something for everyone here. The main concern in my opinion would be that it’s entirely an open air location. So this spot would presumably be a no-go during rainy, windy, super cold days. Luckily, while Orlando has these days, it’s a “don’t-like-the-weather-wait-five-minutes” kind of place, so hopefully Geyser Point will be a fitting dining spot most days of the year. So, do you want to make this a destination, or should you just save this spot for the next time you’re at the Wilderness Lodge pool? Well…that depends. If you’re like me and love hanging out in a relaxing location with access to pretty good food and some fun drinks, then it’s worth a trip over to Wilderness Lodge. If you’re visiting Disney World with your family, working from a spreadsheet schedule, and packing your days with theme park fun, then it’s probably not your best use of time to come all the way over to Geyser Point. I will say that this is a welcome addition to Wilderness Lodge, and the guests staying at this resort will likely very much enjoy the dining spot. If Geyser Point gives any indication of what’s to come as we anticipate another dining option, refurbishments to long-loved spots, and further amenities coming to Wilderness Lodge, then it makes me even more excited to see — and taste — more soon! Athletes from more than 100 countries compete in more than 60 different sports at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex each year. In addition to our Disney owned events and competitions such as Disney Soccer, Disney Baseball, and Disney Spring Training, some of the biggest youth sports championships in the nation are hosted at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. The Pop Warner Super Bowl, AAU Girls’ Junior National Volleyball Championships and Varsity Summit All Star Cheerleading Championship, just to name a few. In fact, ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex will soon be the epicenter of cheer and dance with the expansion of the new indoor sports venue. ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex is also a training ground. 16. We recently announced on the Disney Parks Blog that the 2017 runDisney Princess Half Marathon Weekend presented by Children’s Miracle Network Hospital will be inspired by Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast.” We’re counting down to our most enchanting race weekend by preparing our Belle-inspired outfit. We first met Belle wearing her classic blue dress. This running-inspired version of Belle’s opening scene wouldn’t be complete without her iconic white apron. These black New Balance shoes capture her black flats that carried her through many adventures and will carry this look across the finish line. We accessorized Belle’s blue running essentials from Champion with the white apron, skirt and classic bow. Soon we’ll be stepping up to the start line, ready to track our run thanks to Misfit! Belle can’t go anywhere without a book at her side. Beauty and the Beast: Belle’s Library is a unique literary journal with inspiring quotes from some of Belle’s favorite books. You can also enjoy adults only variety & game shows at night while your kids have the time of their lives at the youth spaces onboard. “My kids don’t want to leave the clubs once they’re there!” shares Marcy G. Category: Favorite Broadway Style Show The shows on board Disney Cruise Line are nothing short of spectacular! “Believe” was chosen as favorite Broadway-Style show telling the story of a father rediscovering his belief in magic. “Disney Dreams: An Enchanted Classic” and “Tangled: The Musical” were also among the top favorites. Don’t miss out of the brand new “Frozen, A Musical Spectacular” aboard Disney Wonder or the newly announced “Beauty & the Beast” coming to Disney Dream in November 2017. The Disney Cruise Line specialists at the Disney Parks Moms Panel recommend arriving early for the show to get the perfect seat. Category: Favorite Family Fun With the first ever fireworks at sea, Pirate Night was chosen at favorite family fun moment aboard Disney Cruise Line. This swashbuckling night features a themed menu, up beat deck parties, lots of costumes, and more, plus it always ends with a bang! The Disney Parks Moms Panelists also enjoy riding on the AquaDuck water coaster, seeing a first-run film at the Buena Vista Theater or participating in a trivia or family game show at DLounge. All this family fun is included in your cruise fare, shares Marcy G. See what else is included in your cruise fare here. Category: Favorite Dining Experience The dining options are every Disney Parks Moms Panelist’s favorite part of a Disney Cruise with sit-down, buffet, quick service and room service options available. Animator’s Palate tops the list as favorite dining experience from the long list options. This colorful restaurant showcases an entertaining dinner show aboard each Disney Cruise Line ship, and is part of the rotational dining program. This program allows you to dine at a different restaurant each night, and your server team travels with you. So, they already know your preferences! The brand new Tiana’s Place was also amongst the Disney Parks Moms Panel’s favorites. This jazzy new restaurant was inspired by the “Princess & the Frog” as is one of many new enhancements aboard Disney Wonder. Category: Favorite Itinerary The Bahamian itinerary was chosen as favorite itinerary by the Disney Parks Moms Panelists for one main reason, Disney’s private island paradise, Castaway Cay! Beth S. recommends this itinerary as a great choice for first time cruisers, the shorter 3-&4-Night options are a great way to test out your sea legs. The Disney Parks Moms Panelists also love the Alaskan and Mediterranean itineraries offered over the summer and the seasonal themed sailings, like Halloween on the High Seas Cruises & Very Merrytime Cruises, but they just can’t wait to experience Marvel Day at Sea kicking off this Fall. The Disney Parks Moms Panel Awards continue next week with Disneyland Resort favorites. In the meantime, let us know your favorites from this week’s categories in the comments below. 19. We constantly hear from our guests how much they enjoy the Disney Sea & Shore Weeks on “Wheel of Fortune.” It’s a fantastic opportunity to see three very different Disney Vacation experiences – all while playing along with America’s Game! So, I’m excited to tell you that it’s back again, starting tonight!! We’ve had exciting adventures with the “Wheel” Team on amazing Disney Cruises – (I still think of that ultra-relaxing day on Castaway Cay!) We also visited the beautiful Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa in Hawaii not too long ago, as well. (Sadly, my tan has faded.) You’ll get to see highlights from those trips throughout the week! But, most recently, we had a truly unique experience. I always tell you that I have the best job at Disney … and working on this production may have been the most fun I’ve had to date! We played host to our friends Pat Sajak and Vanna White as we took our first Adventures by Disney trips … to London and Ireland! Pat and Vanna, along with the crew from “Wheel of Fortune” made memories that will last a lifetime as we all traveled to amazing locales. A few highlights: In London, we saw Buckingham Palace and Winsor Castle, and participated in an authentic archery experience at a beautiful British Estate. In Ireland, we visited an authentic Irish Farm, experienced the breathtaking Cliffs of Moher … and, our “home” there was a real Irish Castle! (And these are just some of the things you’ll see when you take your own Adventures by Disney vacation.) Good news is, you’ll get to see many of these experiences throughout the week of shows, beginning tonight – along with clever puzzles, a dazzling set, special contestants who love these destinations just as much as we all do … and there’s plenty of inspiration, too, for your next Disney vacation as you venture outside the theme parks. (And, another exciting treat – five lucky viewers will win their very own Disney Cruise Line vacation, just for watching!) So, don’t miss Disney Sea & Shore Week, beginning tonight! Check your local listings for time and channel. Buy a vowel! View the full article
  20. A fresh take on African cuisine has arrived at Disney’s Jiko, the fine dining restaurant nestled inside the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Well, Chef Daniel Sicilia joined the restaurant about 6 months ago along with pastry chef Michael Craig. Their new dishes are now on the menu. I got a chance to try... View the full article
  21. The Rose and Crown Pub and Dining Room in the World Showcase at Disney World’s Epcot is an authentic English pub dropped into sunny central Florida. And we love it. Like “can-we-move-in?” love it. For years, Rose and Crown has earned a reputation as a classic World Showcase spot. Diners satisfy their need for English comfort food like fish and chips and cottage pie while enjoying some of the best pints found in the Parks. But many visitors to Epcot don’t realize that the no-reservations-needed pub here has an incredible (though small) food menu and atmosphere! Plus — Carl the Bartender! We know, we know. You want in. Atmosphere Rose and Crown Pub and Dining Room gets high marks from diners for the restaurant’s authenticity, and it all starts with the curb appeal. Rose and Crown Pub and Dining Room In fact, Rose and Crown features architecture from three different centuries on its exterior, which is in keeping with the period architecture found throughout the United Kingdom pavilion. Inside Rose and Crown, you’ll find what feels like the perfect pub from across the pond. It features lots of dark wood and tons of pub-tastic details. Rose and Crown Bar Aside from some killer beverages, another crowd favorite of Rose and Crown’s Pub is Carl, one of the most beloved Disney World Cast Members. We definitely recommend stopping in for the best kind of Disney history along with your brew! Cheers with Carl at Rose and Crown Of course, while the decor and Bartender Carl are certainly part of the experience of dining in at Rose and Crown, we all know that it really all comes down to the food. (That’s not just us, right?) Eats The pub menu here is excellent and worth a try — especially if you find yourself in the World Showcase without a coveted ADR! Of course, I never stop at Rose and Crown Pub without grabbing a drink, and they have lots of unique and familiar options to choose from. On this visit, I went with a Cider and Black. Rose and Crown Cider and Black I love the jewel-like color of this cider — this one is a combo of Strongbow and Blackcurrant Cordial. Its light, slightly fruity flavor is probably best suited for those who prefer lighter beers and ciders specifically (this will NOT scratch your Guinness itch), but it’s right up my margarita-loving alley. Rose and Crown Cider and Black To accompany my Cider and Black, I ordered a Battered Banger and Chips. (To order goodies here, you head up to the bar, order from the menu there, and take a number back to your table. The food will be brought out to you.) I had some high expectations for this since I almost always order the Bangers and Mash in the dining room here (and it is always terrific!). Thankfully, I was not disappointed! Rose and Crown Battered Banger and Chips Granted, it might not be the most visually appealing basket of food I’ve ever seen, but it strikes all the right notes for pub food. There’s the golden brown, deep-fried batter; thick-cut, English style chips; and a newspaper lining. It doesn’t get any better than that. Rose and Crown Battered Banger and Chips And it tasted incredible! The traditional English sausage was super savory and flavorful — so much so that I was actually pretty impressed as it caught me off guard. It was satisfyingly crunchy, too — exactly what I expected. The menu describes the dipping sauce as Branston Mayonnaise, and with a little digging we found that this British brand of mayo is the Sweet Chili variety. It was tangy with a hint of savory, and it was a textural and flavor foil to the dynamic Banger (and its tastebud-blasting, battery, crunchy goodness!). Rose and Crown Battered Banger and Chips Juicy, crunchy, tangy, salty: the Battered Banger really has it all. Highly recommended. Now, we gotta be real: it’s kind of a bad news/best-news-ever scenario here. The English Bulldog that we looooved is gone from the Rose and Crown Pub Menu. Sadface! But it’s been replaced by THIS, so giant smiling happy face! It’s the yin/yang of manipulated sausages, friends. But you won’t be disappointed! Overall I would definitely order this again. Everyday. Forever. At $9.99, it’s a terrific value (and hefty enough to serve as a full meal!). Really, when you’re eating at Rose and Crown Pub and Dining Room, it’s a transportive experience, and the food is a very big part of that experience. With dishes like this on the menu, you can bet we’ll be back. A lot. What is your favorite World Showcase dining experience? Let us know in the comments! 23. It’s February 13th, which is known as Villaintine’s Day here on the Disney Parks Blog. Why celebrate the Disney villains? Because without them, we’d have no Disney heros! Think about it: the Three Little Pigs would’ve had a rather boring week if Big Bad Wolf didn’t constantly try to blow their houses down. Aladdin may still be faking life as a prince if Jafar hadn’t outed him as a “street rat” and forced him to be honest to Jasmine. And let’s be honest, it’s just fun to see the look on Lady Tremaine’s face when the glass slipper fits Cinderella. Disney villains add so much character to Disney movies and they’re equally fun to meet in person at our parks. So, let’s give some love to our Disney villains today. To celebrate, our friends in the Yellow Shoes department at Disney created these fun Villaintine’s to share with all of you. Be sure to check out our Disney Parks Blog Facebook page and Disney Parks Blog Instagram account for more! Is seeing a Disney villain a must-do for you when visiting our parks? Which one?
