  1. As part of Disney’s admiration for military service members, veterans and their families, Disney VoluntEARS visited Orlando Fisher House to continue an annual tradition of making holiday magic for families in need. This tradition began in 2019 when the Disney SALUTE veteran employee resource group first delivered beautiful Walt Disney World decorations to Orlando Fisher House to bring some extra holiday joy to veterans and their families who are going through challenging times. Providing hope to military and veteran families when they need it most Orlando Fisher House stands as a beacon of hope for veteran families in need. It’s one of nearly 100 comfort homes nationwide built by Fisher House Foundation. These warm and welcoming spaces offer complimentary lodging, allowing families to stay close to their loved ones while they are receiving medical care at a nearby hospital. For years, Disney has supported Fisher Houses across the nation through Disney VoluntEARS events like this and more. Renovating Orlando Fisher House’s new outdoor kitchen Our tradition was made even more special this year as we joined teams from both the Fisher House and Orlando VA Medical Center to officially open a new outdoor kitchen area. Disney was honored to provide funding to help renovate this new social grill space that will be a place where families can come together while supporting their heroes who are receiving care. Following the ceremony, expert Disney Chefs helped officially open the newly renovated outdoor patio by serving up a delicious lunch. “It is always a magical day when Disney comes to our Fisher House to spread some Holiday cheer for our guests,” said George Denby, General Manager of Orlando Fisher House. “We are grateful for their generous donation to renovate our outdoor kitchen; this will allow our families to spend more time together and enjoy delicious meals.” In addition to what took place in Florida, Fisher Houses in Hawaii, Los Angeles and Long Beach will also receive some holiday décor and cheer. Advancing our support to the military communities through Disney VoluntEARS events like this are just some of the ways Disney continues our century-long tradition of saluting U.S. military service. As we recognize National Veterans and Military Families Month, please join us in wishing the Fisher House team, all service members, veterans and their families a holiday full of cheer. 2. Okay, is it just us, or is there some overlap between Disney fans and McDonald’s fans? Because, well, we’re both. McDonald’s Maybe it’s because McDonald’s and Disney often partner to bring us fun Disney Happy Meal toys (and we get obsessed with some of the toy collections). Maybe it’s because some of us are old enough to remember eating McDonald’s fries in Disney World (oh, those were the days). Maybe it’s because we visit the world’s largest McDonald’s often, which just happens to be 15 minutes from Disney World. Anyway, that’s why we like to share McDonald’s news with you, and we’ve got a MAJOR update on a popular, but often controversial, sandwich. Okay, so we’re talking about the McRib — either you love it or you hate it (and don’t @ us, but we just don’t see the appeal). However, the McRib is returning to McDonald’s on December 3rd. So if you’ve been waiting to get your hands on the McRib sandwich again, you’ll have your chance SOON. ©McDonald’s The McRib is made with pork, water, salt, dextrose, and rosemary extract and is served as a patty on a bun with barbecue sauce, pickles, and onions. It’s not really ribs, though, but the meat patty is shaped to look like ribs. Yep, it sounds weird even when you describe it. But we get it — some folks LOVE it. ©McDonald’s However, the McRib is bringing something else with it: you’ll also soon be able to buy the McRib sauce. A Whole Lotta McRib sauce will be available for a limited time in half-gallon jugs for $19.99. You’ll be able to order the sauce online on November 25th at 10AM ET at wholelottamcribsauce.com. So if you want to put that sauce on everything or gift it to someone who just love those McRibs, here’s your chance. ©McDonald’s Stay tuned to DFB for more. 5. The Disney Treasure is almost ready to set sail with guests on board! Disney Treasure We have been following along with the Treasure’s journey as we prepare for Disney Cruise Line’s sixth ship to take her maiden voyage on December 21st! Disney Cruise Line is known for rotational dining across all of its ships. Each night, your server team will come with you as you rotate to three dining rooms on board the ship. The Disney Treasure will feature three different dining rooms, and recently, we got a sneak peek of them! The Disney Treasure is a sister ship to the Disney Wish and will feature two of the same restaurants found on board. On the Disney Treasure, you will rotate between Plaza de Coco, Worlds of Marvel, and 1923. We got to step inside each of these restaurants during our tour of the Disney Treasure, and we are bringing you all along with us! Worlds of Marvel 1923 Just like on the Disney Wish, you will find 1923 on Deck Three. 1923, is the year that the Walt Disney Company was founded, so to pay homage to its founders, you will either dine in the Walt Disney dining room or the Roy Disney dining room. According to Disney, this restaurant combines “classic Hollywood glamour with a dash of Disney whimsy.” Throughout the restaurant, you will be able to get a look at the evolution of Disney animation over the last century with one thousand drawings, props, and other animation tools. 1923 aboard the Disney Treasure The menu is “Inspired by the fusion of cultural flavors found throughout the Golden State.” We got a look at some of the dishes that will be served in 1923, and they were looking delicious! 1923 on the Disney Treasure There is a Roy Disney side and a Walt Disney side of 1923, and each side is filled with lots of beautiful details and plenty of displays to look at. We spotted this display that has a variety of items from Up including a sketch of Russell, Carl & Ellie’s mailbox, and more. 1923 on the Disney Treasure There was also one with sketches, figurines, and props from Aladdin. 1923 We love the elegant touches throughout the dining area in addition to all the drawings, props, and animation tools. 1923 While 1923 is wonderful, it is just one of the three restaurants you will be rotating through on the Disney Treasure, so let’s move on to the next restaurant! Plaza de Coco Up next is Plaza de Coco, which is the equivalent of Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure aboard the Disney Wish. This Coco-themed restaurant is on Deck Five. Plaza de Coco You get both dinner and a show here, as there will be musical performances by a Mariachi band, plus Miguel will give an appearance! This dining experience will be like a theater-in-the-round; there will be tables surrounding the stage, and performances and show effects will be spread throughout the dining room. Plaza de Coco Dining Room Since seven-night sailings will allow dining in each dining room at least twice, there will be two different nights of unique dining experiences at Plaza de Coco. On the first night in the dining room, “the story of Miguel and his family will continue where it left off on screen as they gather in Mariachi Plaza to take guests on a colorful, music-filled journey that celebrates family memories and togetherness.” On the second night, “Miguel will reunite with his great-great-grandparents, Hector and Mama Imelda, by transporting them to Santa Cecilia with the help of his magic guitar for a Día de los Muertos celebration.” (Kent Phillips, photographer) The menu here will be filled with dishes inspired by the film’s setting, like Chorizo Street Croquettes and Pan-Seared Adobo Spiced Sea Bass. The Mexican-inspired fare will be paired with themed drink options. Dishes at Plaza de Coco The restaurant pays homage to Coco and includes lots of tributes to the iconic film. You will see the Rivera family’s Ofrenda, family photos, colorful papel picados, floral elements, and so much more. You really feel like you are being transported into the movie and it doesn’t get much better than dinner with a show! Rivera family tree framed Now, let’s head to the last of the three restaurants that are a part of the rotational dining on the Disney Treasure. Worlds of Marvel Worlds of Marvel will also be aboard the Disney Treasure as it is on the Disney Wish. The restaurant is also an immersive dining experience that will have you going on adventures with Marvel characters while dining. The Disney Treasure will feature Avengers: Quantum Encounter, which is on the Disney Wish as well. Worlds of Marvel The Treasure will get a brand-new show called “Marvel Celebration of Heroes: Groot Remix,” which will be based on the Guardians of the Galaxy. This dinner show will be a totally immersive dining experience where Groot will bring diners along for a screen-based quest to throw a surprise party for Rocket Raccoon. While you dine, a Starlord-approved awesome mixtape of songs will play! Worlds of Marvel The menu is inspired by the iconic locations and characters of the Marvel Universe including dishes inspired by Wakanda, Sokovia (home of Quicksilver and The Scarlet Witch), and New York. Worlds of Marvel food These three restaurants are sure to provide an incredible meal, along with some great entertainment. We are so excited to dine aboard the Disney Treasure when it sets sail this upcoming December, so make sure to stay tuned to Disney Food Blog for all of our reviews! 6. 2024 has been a year full of change at Disney World! Magic Kingdom One of the biggest changes happened over the summer when we said goodbye to Genie+ and hello to Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass. This new pay-to-skip-the-line service completely changed the way that Lightning Lanes were purchased and booked, and in some way, the new system mimics its predecessor, FastPass+. Many people seem to glance over two other changes that were made with this new system, but they are essential to think about, especially when planning your trip! As a refresh, Lightning Lane Multi Pass is Disney World’s new version of Genie+, whereas Lightning Lane Single Pass is the new version of Individual Lightning Lane. If you are staying at a Disney World hotel, you can purchase your Lightning Lanes (both Multi or Single) seven days before your trip. All others can book three days prior. Rides are now broken up into tiers, and you can select three attractions via Multi Pass before you arrive. Lightning Lane There is also Lighting Lane Premier Pass, which is available in limited quantities to Deluxe Resort guests. This pass allows you to enter all the Lightning Lanes within one park, one time, without the need to reserve a time slot. ©Disney As if the names, booking window, and ride tiers were not enough change, Disney also quietly removed two offerings that were once part of Genie+. Lightning Lane at Peter Pan’s Flight Disney World is full of entertainment offerings as well as character meet and greets. Lines for characters and viewing for entertainment, like parades, can get crowded. With Genie+, you could reserve a Lightning Lane for more than just attractions and some shows. You could also select character meet and greets and parade viewing. Ariel in the Festival of Fantasy parade When the change of the system rolled out in July, we noticed that these offerings were no longer going to be part of the new system. While this might not be a big deal to some, those who are more familiar with what was offered with both FastPass+ and Genie+ may be shocked to see that you can no longer reserve a spot for parades or character meet and greets. Lightning Lane for character meet and greets is no longer part of Lightning Lane Multi Pass. The good news is that you will still be able to see when character meet and greets and parade times will happen. You can view these times in the My Disney Experience app, but here’s a word of warning: times do change, so make sure to continuously check throughout the day so you are not caught off guard by any changes. Make sure to check the My Disney Experience app for updated parade times! We are not entirely sure why Disney decided to remove Lightning Lanes from parades and character meet and greets (we have some ideas), but it is essential to consider this when planning your trip so you can adjust your game plan. If you are confused about these changes to the Lightning Lane system, you are not alone! We have tons of resources on our site and on our YouTube channel to help you master Lightning Lane Multi and Single Pass! 9. When you go to Disney World often, you can really notice the trends that pop up periodically. Magic Kingdom Whether it trends like a particular menu item that only comes during a particular season, new merch that coincides with a new festival, or even the trend of closing certain rides for annual refurbishments, we’ve seen it all at Disney World. Now, there’s one particular trend that we’ve seen appearing all over Disney World, and not gonna lie…it’s kinda CREEPY. As we were saying, there’s a trend that we’ve noticed appearing all over Disney World, and frankly it terrifies us. We’re talking about some downright terrifying dolls we’ve seen all about and now we need you to see them too! Once Upon a Toy Tree Doll (Disney Springs) First up, let’s have a stroll at Disney Springs where the 2024 Christmas Tree Stroll is happening! Disney Springs Christmas Tree Stroll Strewn all about Disney Springs you can find Christmas trees themed to some of your favorite Disney films and franchises. Now, take this tree over by Earl of Sandwich. At first glance, it appears to be just like any other Christmas tree on the property. Let’s get closer. Once Upon a Toy Tree We can see this doll sitting at the base of the tree between presents. Once Upon a Toy Tree doll There’s just something a bit uncanny about the way it looks. How about we move a bit closer? Once Upon a Toy Tree doll Okay, well that’s a face that will be in our dreams now. Once Upon a Toy Tree doll Main Street, U.S.A. Christmas Tree Doll (Magic Kingdom) Next up, let’s hop on over to Magic Kingdom. Here’s where you’ll find a truly massive Christmas tree at the head of Main Street, U.S.A. Christmas Tree We can’t even imagine how many thousands of people get their picture taken in front of it. It really is a beautiful and iconic Christmas tree. Now, I wonder how many people know what’s at its base. Let’s have a look. Christmas Tree By all accounts, we have a pretty standard assortment of traditional holiday decor like wrapped present boxes and bows, a toy truck, nutcrackers, and even a doll. Christmas tree decor Speaking of that doll, let’s have a closer look. The first thing that’s a bit “off” are the nutcrackers. What are they doing? Main Street, U.S.A. Christmas Tree doll But it’s her piercing gaze that is most haunting. Why is she looking straight through us? Main Street, U.S.A. Christmas Tree doll And why is her arm like that?? Main Street, U.S.A. Christmas Tree doll I think it’s safe to say that after seeing this one, it’s not going to be sugar plums dancing in our dreams. Liberty Square Doll (Magic Kingdom) We saved the “best” one for last. We’re staying at Magic Kingdom for this one. You’re going to want to pop on over to Liberty Square to find this one. Where’s the Creepy Doll?? Look for the building that has a wheelbarrow and cellar door and you’ll find the doll in the window there. Liberty Square Doll If you look closely, she definitely give some “Annabelle” vibes. She’s Watching You… They say that this one is to represent the fact that dolls were often placed in windows in colonial times to alert firefighters that children lived in that house, in case there was a fire, but we’re pretty sure we would’ve said “nah” if we had seen this doll during colonial times too. And we know Cynthia isn’t new…but she’s still pretty creepy. Liberty Square Doll There you have it! Those are just three of the terrifying dolls that we’ve seen pop up all over Disney World. 12. Cold weather has finally hit Orlando! Okay, well, cold by Florida’s standards, anyway. Snow in Florida! The temperature is dropping and that means no more sweating as you schlep your way from ride to ride around Disney World. But, cold weather isn’t always good news for Disney World parks. In fact, this cold snap has actually forced the closure of one park, in particular, and we’ve got all the details. Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park recently reopened on November 4th after a months-long closure and we were there to check it all out! This park is themed after a ski resort — as the story goes, a random snowstorm hit the Sunshine State, resulting in the construction of a ski resort for folks to enjoy the wintery weather. But then, all the snow melted in the heat and we were left with a water park! If you had plans to go to Blizzard Beach this week, you might want to rethink them. Crowds around the pool Due to cold weather, Blizzard Beach will be closed from Thursday, November 21st through Saturday, November 23rd. As of now, the Disney World calendar shows the park reopening on Sunday, November 24th, but we’ll let you know if that changes. Make sure you double-check the Disney website or My Disney Experience app for the most updated information about park hours ahead of your visit! ©Disney The forecast for November 21st shows a high of 68 degrees and a low of 47 for the Orlando area. On November 22nd, the high is expected to stay at 68 degrees with low temps potentially dropping to 43 degrees. Saturday is forecast to have a high temperature of 66 degrees — so if you’re planning to be in the parks this weekend make sure you pack and dress accordingly! ©Weather.com When weather like this comes to Disney World, it can be hard to know how to pack! We recommend dressing in layers. It’s typically colder in the mornings and at night, but when the sun hits it can still get a little warm. Keep in mind that you can always bring extra clothes and change if you get uncomfortable, but you may have to carry them around with you. Or, rent a locker and keep your extra clothes in there! Blizzard Beach Your best bet is going to be to keep a close eye on the weather as your trip approaches so you know what to pack for. Or, take a page out of our playbook and purposely don’t pack things so you have an excuse to buy them once you get to Disney World. BOOM! Summit Plummet at Blizzard Beach It turns out Blizzard Beach isn’t so blizzard-friendly after all! If you’re heading to Disney World soon, make sure you double-check the weather because it can change from day to day — and even hour to hour. In the meantime, make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest Disney news, updates, and more! 4 Things We Hope Disney World Changes in 2025 Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! 13. Not all hotels are created equal. World Center Marriott The Orlando area features almost 150,000 hotel rooms, ranging from the tiniest motels to large luxury resorts. There’s the sprawling Disney World resort complex, the ever-growing Universal Resort, and seemingly every other brand one can imagine in the area. However, for every great hotel in the area, there are some that our readers would – – to put it mildly – – avoid. We asked our readers “What’s an Orlando hotel we couldn’t PAY you to stay in?” and received a litany of answers, some more surprising than others. For starters, our readers were split as to whether they would NEVER stay on Disney property or never NOT stay on Disney property. Reader Ada is strictly in the former camp, writing “Unpopular opinion: We no longer stay on property at a Disney hotel. We now exclusively stay in Vacation Homes. And rent a car from Hertz. We usually rent from VRBO It is, by far, a superior experience. And I don’t have to ride crowded transportation unless I choose to. Love the Monorail Don’t knock a great vacation home experience until you try it.” Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort However, reader Carolyn had the opposite take, saying they and their family wouldn’t stay anywhere outside “Disney bubble”, writing “… we love the free and frequent transportation plus being able to walk to some of the parks, plus the early entry.” A few readers chimed in that that they would still stay on Disney property, but not on certain hotels. Specifically, the All-Star Resorts and other value tier Disney hotels like Pop Century were sighted by several readers. All-Star Sports Outside of Disney, several readers said they wouldn’t stay at any hotel located on Orlando’s International Drive, AKA the tourist-heavy I-Drive area. These include hotel brands running the gamut from Ramadas and Morel 6 to more well-regarded “luxury” names. Universal came away somewhat unscathed, though a few readers did bring up the resort. On reader named the Hard Rock Hotel, which is interesting since that property is one of Universal’s highest-tier hotels. Another, reader Daniel was even more blunt, writing “I used to love Universal. Now it’s a chore to go. Considering never going back to Universal ever again.” Hard Rock Hotel Finally, reader Graeme chimed in with the “Hollywood Tower Hotel”… presumably leaving his comment from the Twilight Zone…. Tower of Terror We wanted to know where our readers wouldn’t stay in Orlando, and they definitely let us know. Stay tuned to DFB for more on the best… and worst hotel options. 14. We are so thrilled to be seeing the Disney Treasure, Disney Cruise Line‘s newest ship before it sets sail for Port Canaveral, Florida for its maiden voyage! ©Disney There’s so much to explore on this new ship! The new dining options are exciting on their own, the stunning lobby and decorations on board are beautiful to see, and of course, the new entertainment we’re beyond thrilled to see. We just got a sneak peek at the new Moana stage show and had to immediately tell you all about it! This new show is titled Disney The Tale of Moana and follows the same events of the film in a shorter amount of time. We were already looking forward to the show, but then we got a look at some of the incredible concept art and it became one of the things we were looking forward to the most. ©Disney Disney revealed that a 50-foot tall Te Ka puppet would be used during the fight between Moana and Te Ka, and is the largest puppet ever produced for a Disney Cruise Line show to date! ©Disney Disney dropped a first look, though, of what the show will look like in real life. Here’s Moana with her Wayfinding boat. AMAZING. ©Disney Let’s take a closer look. How Far I’ll Go Now we weren’t able to take pictures or videos during the show itself, but trust us — you’re in for a treat. Here’s a look at the stage! We watched the first act and Moana fans will be happy to know this is a retelling of the original movie so the storyline is basically the same. One cool fact we learned is that many of the actors are Hawaiian and love performing the show! The sets are minimal but are balanced well with projections. Overall, it’s beautiful and the actor playing Moana had a stunning voice. How cool does this set look?! One thing we should note is that if you haven’t seen the movie yet, you may be a bit lost. So if you’re booking a trip on the Treasure, we highly recommend studying up beforehand! We definitely think this is a show you cannot miss when you’re on board, so plan to see it at least one night during your cruise! More Recent Disney Treasure News! 15. A trip to Disney World may give you some of your favorite memories and be an overall incredible time, but that doesn’t mean it’s a flawless experience. Magic Kingdom Don’t get us wrong, we LOVE visiting Disney World — obviously. The amazing attractions and experiences, beautiful hotels, and delicious eats along with all the nostalgia we feel each trip keep us coming back for more. However, even we can acknowledge that it’s not always sunshine and rainbows when visiting “The Most Magical Place On Earth”. Whether it’s your first visit to Disney World or your 100th, there are certain aspects of a Disney World vacation that are undeniably soul-crushing. In fact, we’ve come up with seven Disney World truths that are tough to hear, even if you’re already expecting them. You’ll Be Tired From All the Walking We’re sure you’ve heard this before, but get ready to hear it again: Disney World is the size of San Francisco. This means you’ll likely be doing a lot of walking every single day. You’re going to do a LOT of walking! It’s not absurd to assume you’ll walk around 10+ miles each park day, and that takes a toll on your feet and body if you aren’t prepared. Blisters, fatigue, and total loss of stamina are par for the course thanks to how much walking you’ll do. It’s enough to make even the most level-headed adults cranky. Don’t skimp out on a good pair of shoes! We can’t promise you’ll totally negate the pain of walking several miles every day, but you can ease it with the right pair of shoes and accessories like shoe inserts. We recommend breaking in a pair — or a few — of high-quality shoes before your visit so that your feet have the best support possible. We constantly write about our favorite shoes to wear to Disney World, so check back with us frequently for shoe tips! We Spent Thousands of Hours Testing Shoes in Disney World — Here’s What You Need To Know! How Expensive the Trip Is You probably already understand how expensive a trip to Disney World is. There’s the cost of lodging, theme park tickets, food, and travel to consider, and that adds up fast. However, the little things can also rack up a pretty hefty bill. Disney World can be expensive Smaller snacks can quietly eat into your budget, as do souvenirs, fees, last-minute emergency purchases, parking, and so much more. It’s likely you’ll come to Disney World with a budget and find yourself needing to stretch it to accommodate an increased need to spend. ©Disney The good news is we’re here to help. We provide all sorts of budgeting tips that will help you maximize your time at Disney World while saving a few bucks. Not Everything Is Magical When visiting Disney World, you’ll hear the words “Magic” and “Magical” quite a bit. However, we can attest that not everything you experience is “magical”. The parks closed due to Hurricane Milton Life happens. Recently, Hurricane Miton forced the Disney Parks to close and that’s a major example of things not going according to plan. Rides break down, refurbishment schedules go longer than expected, people are irritable and cranky, the weather may limit you, you run out of time to complete your itinerary, long lines will deter you, you’ll smell smells you wish you hadn’t, or you’ll face adversity that challenges your patience and threatens the vibes during your vacation. These kinds of things are guaranteed to happen and it’s important to understand that before you spend tons of money to visit Disney World. Crowds at Magic Kingdom can be a lot The best advice we can give is to always try to remain calm. Regardless of how big the problem that you run into is, keeping a calm composure will always help you navigate with the best efficiency. If you ever need to reset, seek out calm spots wherever you are and take a moment. Remember, Disney World vacations are supposed to be fun, and taking breaks can absolutely aid you in the quest to have the best trip ever. The Best Places to Escape in Disney World When Your Anxiety is Through the Roof You Won’t Be Able to Do Everything On Your List It’s impossible to do everything at Disney World in one trip, so, naturally, you’ll create a to-do list. Prioritizing is a really great idea before you begin your vacation and it really helps to create a tidy itinerary that helps you maximize your time. Still, there will be items on your list that you’ll be forced to leave out. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance Unless you have only two rides on your list, you’re likely to experience some sort of disappointment. Even then, you’re still not safe. We’ve already talked about how ride closures happen as do unexpected breakdowns. You also have to factor in park hours and long waits, which can quickly harm your ability to do everything on your list. Unless you’re willing to pay an arm and a leg for the Lightning Lane Premier Pass, you’re subject to wait times and time itself. ©Disney While we can’t promise you that everything you want to do will always be open and available to experience, we do suggest looking into Lightning Lane pass options if you have the means. These will cost you some extra bucks, but they will save you time (and time is money, right?). It’s also important to prioritize your list of priorities. Creating your own personal tier list of what you HAVE to do on vacation is crucial. We also recommend taking advantage of the 60-day reservation window for advanced dining reservations so you get to eat at all the spots that are a must for you and your family. Everything You Need to Know about Lightning Lane Premier Pass in Disney World You’ll Be Glued to Your Phone Most vacations allow you to put the phone away for a bit and relax. These days, a Disney World vacation isn’t one of those instances. ©Disney Disney World’s app, My Disney Experience is a hub for all things Disney World. Mobile orders, Lightning Lanes, park tickets, reservations, wait times, maps, and more are all accessible through the app. Naturally, you’ll be looking at your phone A LOT throughout your vacation. ©Disney There’s really no workaround here. We recommend getting familiar with the app before your trip and picking up a FuelRod or portable charger so that you always feel comfortable with your phone battery level. To learn the ins and outs of the My Disney Experience app, check out our guide below! My Disney Experience — The Online Planning Tool for Your Walt Disney World Vacation Rain Is Inevitable Central Florida can have some beautiful weather, but it also has a subtropical climate, which means humidity and rain. Rainy day at Hollywood Studios It rains pretty often at Disney World, and it’s not always a light drizzle. It can come down pretty hard and is sometimes accompanied by thunder and lightning. When the weather gets too inclement, outdoor attractions can be shut down. Additionally, if you aren’t wearing the right outfit or have the right accessories, you can become miserable quickly. Rainy Day The trick here is to expect rain. Pack your ponchos, make sure you have the right kind of shoes, and stay up-to-date on all the latest weather updates. For tips on surviving Disney World during hurricane season, check out our video below! 16. Curtains up for “Disney The Tale of Moana”! The first ever-stage adaptation of the beloved Walt Disney Animation Studios film, “Moana” takes center stage in the Walt Disney Theater aboard the Disney Treasure, and I’ve got a first look at the beautiful Broadway-style production. More About ‘Disney The Tale of Moana’ on the Disney Treasure From the very first scene, this spectacular show takes you on a journey across land and sea, with set design and musical elements inspired by cultures of the Pacific Islands woven throughout, that inspires Moana’s classic tale. “An Innocent Warrior” begins the show with vibrant dance and songs in a mix of languages including Tuvaluan, Tokelauan and Samoan. The show also includes the first stage performance of the song, “Warrior Face,” inspired by traditional Haka. Larger-than-life puppetry fills the Walt Disney Theatre stage throughout the show, including the largest puppet Disney Cruise Line has ever created in the massive, fiery Te Kā towering over the audience before eventually transforming into the gentle island goddess, Te Fiti. The show will feature several memorable songs from the film including, “How Far I’ll Go,” which is one of my personal favorites! 17. Disney Cruise Line’s new ship, the Disney Treasure, has officially been christened! Bob Iger, Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company, and Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Experiences, both traveled to New York City to celebrate the historic moment in person and commence the traditional christening ceremony. “For more than 100 years, Disney stories have filled the world with joy and wonder, capturing the hearts and imaginations of generations across every continent,” said Iger. “And since the launch of the Disney Cruise Line in 1998, our ships have become brand ambassadors that bring our world-class storytelling and the immersive nature of our theme parks to new audiences in new places all over the world.” In a celebratory tribute to the adventurous stories represented onboard the new ship, Disney Cruise Line lit up the sky with drones depicting beloved Disney characters, including Madame Leota from the Haunted Mansion, Genie from the Walt Disney Studios Animation film, “Aladdin” and Dante from the Pixar Studios film, “Coco.” Following a stunning performance by award-winning singer-songwriter Jordin Sparks, voices from across The Walt Disney Company recited a blessing to bestow good fortune upon the Disney Treasure and its travelers, while a bottle of champagne created from glimmering drones sparkled across the sky. This finale embodied the longstanding maritime tradition of christening, when a godparent blesses a ship before its maiden voyage. In this case, Walt Disney Company cast, crew, Imagineers and employees around the world have the honorary role of godparent for the Disney Treasure. In case you missed it, catch the replay of this Disney Treasure celebration below. “This is an unprecedented era of growth for Disney Experiences, and a dramatic period of expansion at Disney Cruise Line,” said D’Amaro. “We are more than doubling our fleet to 13 ships by 2031 so that we can bring Disney cruise vacations to even more families across the globe. With the Disney Treasure, we continue to deliver an unparalleled family vacation at sea through the magic of Disney storytelling. The memories our guests create onboard this stunning ship will last a lifetime.” The Disney Treasure will set sail on its maiden voyage next month on Dec. 21, 2024, bringing adventurous stories from Disney, Pixar, Star Wars, Marvel and Disney Parks to life at sea. The impressive lineup of new venues includes the first ever bar inspired by the Haunted Mansion a theatrical dining experience themed to the Pixar Studios film, “Coco,” and an original Broadway-style stage show honoring the Walt Disney Animation Studios film, “Moana.” You can learn more about upcoming itineraries onboard Disney Cruise Line’s new ship at DisneyCruise.com. 19. We’re aboard the brand-new Disney Treasure cruise ship and taking you along as we discover all of its secrets! ©Disney We were invited by Disney to check out the Disney Treasure (the Disney Cruise Line’s latest addition to its fleet) in New York City ahead of its scheduled maiden voyage on December 21st, 2024. Home to several different experiences and themed restaurants, one of the things we were most excited to see on the Disney Treasure was the Haunted Mansion Parlor, a Haunted Mansion-themed lounge that is sure to delight fans of the iconic Disney attraction. While checking out this sure-to-be-popular lounge, we got a first look at some of its offerings, including a secret menu! From what we saw, the menu is presented on a tablet and prompts at the bottom, “Tip and turn this book of spells. Your spirit yearns for the secret it tells.” How to access the secret menu When flipped vertically, “A Chilling Challenge” presents itself. The challenge reads, “[Blank] and crawlies, toads in a [blank]/ let there be [blank]/[blank] regions beyond!” Guests must then fill in the saying with words from a word bank at the top of the challenge. The secret menu riddle If this puzzle sounds familiar, then consider yourself a true fan of the Haunted Mansion attraction at the Disney Parks. The challenge guests are required to complete to access the secret menu is a quote from Madame Leota in the seance room at both American versions of the ride. Haunted Mansion in Magic Kingdom As for the menu itself, you’ll find the Restless Spirits Experience for Two — a concoction that features a drink with St. George Botanivore Gin, Screaming Soda, Blackberry, and Blueberry as well as a drink with Five Trail Blended Whiskey, Sour Shivers Lemonade, and Orange. Secret drink! As for the regular menu, you’ll see plenty of “libations conjured to liven thy spirit”! The menu offers tons of cocktails, wine, beer, and spirit-free drinks. You can even get a Hatbox Ghost Sipper! Menu Each beverage has a Haunted Mansion tie-in and you’ll discover drinks like The Chilling Challenge (818 Añejo Tequilla, Cointreau Noir, Blood Orange, Sour Cherry, Lime Salt Air Foam) and the Final Vow (Código Artesanal Mezcal, AMaretto, Strawberry, Mango, Lime, Hot Sauce). 20. Anchor’s away! The Treasure in NYC! The Disney Treasure — the latest ship in the Disney Cruise Line’s seemingly ever-expanding fleet is almost ready for its maiden voyage! This week, Disney gave us a SNEAK PEEK at the new ship during a media preview in New York City! We got to scope out many of the Treasure’s new areas, including the Coco restaurant, Jungle Cruise lounge, Haunted Mansion Parlor, and more! We even got to take a look at the ship’s new small dining areas: HeiHei Café, Jumbeaux’s Sweets, and Jade Cricket Café. HeiHei Café We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: we love a coffee stop on vacation. We need a little sweet treat to hold us over! If you’re looking for a place to take a caffeine break, you can head to the HeiHei Cafe! This is one of two specialty walkup cafés near the Grand Hall. HeiHei Cafe HeiHei is keeping watch over the proceedings at this walkup cafe, so make sure you say hi! Hey — we recognize him! The cafe has lots of places to sit and even some purse hooks and outlets to charge your phone. They really thought of everything, didn’t they? There are even some chargers! Disney is serving up its typical menu of coffee and lattes here, so make sure to stop by if you need a treat! Jumbeaux’s Sweets Disney’s new Zootopia-themed ice cream parlor is ADORABLE! This sweet spot is inspired by Jerry Jumbeaux Jr. from Zootopia, and the details will melt your heart (but not your ice cream — keep that cold!). Jumbeaux’s Sweets This spot serves over 31 flavors of handmade gelato and ice cream, plus specialty treats, candies, and more! Make sure to take a photo with Judy and Nick while you’re at it. How CUTE! Here’s a peek at the menu. You can get a milkshake, a sundae, a scoop (or three) of ice cream, and even gelato! Menu Of course, there are PLENTY of toppings, too. Load it up, people! Look at all those toppings If you want a little snack to go with your ice cream, you can enjoy everything from chocolate-dipped strawberries to macarons! YUM! There are brownies, cupcakes, and even carrot cake treats. There’s something for everyone! This is a need Of course, we also spotted some Zootopia-inspired treats for $5.50. There are so many treats! Here’s our ice cream — we kept it simple. No fancy butter brickle-esque snacks for us today. We have an entire ship to explore! Ice Cream! But, for all you Disney Cruise Line visitors who aren’t on the job, feel free to get creative with your sundae creations! Here’s a peek at the souvenir ice cream truck you can get with your treat. Now look at THIS! Don’t forget to take the time to look around the restaurant! There are so many fun details in this ice cream shop. What a fun detail! As you can see, we had some fun here. But now, it’s time for our next stop! Marceline Market The Marceline Market has made its way to the Disney Treasure! This quick-service spot was inspired by Walt Disney’s early childhood hometown in Missouri. Marceline Market This marketplace is full of all kinds of foods — we’re talking classic favorites, international specialties, and plant-based offerings for breakfast and lunch. The dining room is HUGE Make sure to load up on drinks! Don’t forget a drink! Although it looks like there is a LOT of seating, this dining area can fill up! Make sure to go early if you’re trying to sit with a large group of people. More seating The Disney Treasure small dining areas are simple and charming. 24. Okay, is it just us, or is almost ALL of Disney World under some kind of construction? Okay, maybe not all, but there is a LOT in the works right now. The new Disney Vacation Club (DVC) villa at the Polynesian Village Resort is under construction, although it’s close to completion. Magic Kingdom is getting an expansion in Frontierland plus a whole new land. Animal Kingdom’s Dinoland, U.S.A. will soon start its journey to becoming a new land. Hollywood Studios is getting a Monsters, Inc. land. Over in EPCOT, Test Track is becoming a new version of itself. Well, now, a Disney World hotel is expanding — and we’ve got some details. The Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin could very well be one of favorite off-property hotels, although technically, it IS on property — it’s in the EPCOT area of Disney World. Now, we’re always telling you why we recommend looking into a stay there, and now we’ve got some big news about the hotel to share: the resort is expanding! Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin The Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin just recently broke ground on this expansion, which will add an additional 120,000 square feet of event space to its current meeting and convention space. Joining the hotel for the groundbreaking ceremony were executives from Tishman Realty and MetLife, as well as Marriott International and Disney World. Oh, and a certain mouse was also on hand to help the Swan and Dolphin mark the occasion. ©Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin This will be the first major expansion to the resort’s meeting space since 2003. It will add a new two-story building to the hotel’s existing convention space and will use the resort’s original Michael Graves design as inspiration with lots of natural light, modern touches, water themes, and warm, wooden color schemes. Swan Resort lobby This will give the Swan and Dolphin a massive 469,000 square feet of meeting space total between its three hotels (the Swan, Dolphin, and Swan Reserve). It’s part of a $275 million project that will also go towards meeting space and room upgrades. The new space is expected to be finished in 2026.
