It’s time to celebrate! As Disneyland Resort heads into the eighth year of its community workforce development initiative, we are excited to announce over $1 million in grants going to local nonprofits and school districts. Designed to develop and prepare the workforce in Anaheim and beyond, the community workforce development initiative empowers jobseekers and students through programming with school districts and nonprofits. In addition to financial support, Disney VoluntEARS develop meaningful relationships with the organizations, lending their time and talents toward mentorship, training workshops, skills development and more. Disney VoluntEARS from Disneyland Resort join their mentees from the Anaheim Union High School District for an end-of-year celebration as part of the Girls Inc. of Orange County’s “Girls Meet the Workforce” program. Since 2017, the Disneyland Resort community workforce development initiative has impacted more than 10,000 lives and provided more than $7.5 million in support for organizations to grow their workforce programming and develop new programs. Get to Know the 2024 Grant Recipients With programs like Anaheim’s Innovating Mentoring Experience (AIME) providing one-on-one mentoring for high school students to career skills development workshops with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County and the Inland Empire and more, each of these organizations provides valuable resources for jobseekers and serves a diverse set of community needs. We’re excited to give you a sneak peek at two of the new organizations making a difference in the Anaheim community that are joining the workforce development program at Disneyland Resort: Chef Bruno accepts a donation from Disneyland Resort President Ken Potrock and Anaheim Mayor Ashleigh Aitken Caterina’s Club Founded on a mission to provide warm meals, affordable housing assistance and job training to homeless and low-income families, Caterina’s Club has been an impactful force in Southern California for nearly 20 years. As the organization looks to expand workforce programming through its Hospitality Program, this support will give Anaheim high school students more opportunities to explore future careers in the hospitality and service industries. This isn’t the first time Disneyland Resort and Caterina’s Club have teamed up: earlier this year, the resort named Caterina’s Club the celebrated charity of the 2024 Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend. Disney VoluntEARS from Disneyland Resort drop off 400 care kits to Love Anaheim as part of the Anaheim Inclement Weather Shelter Network program in March 2024. Love Anaheim Launched in 2016 with a heartfelt mission of “spreading goodness and demonstrating kindness,” Love Anaheim provides a valuable resource connecting service project opportunities with available volunteers to further important causes in the City of Anaheim. With this funding, the organization will bolster its Better Way Anaheim program, which provides skills training and services to community members experiencing homelessness, with the end goal of securing employment. In celebration of the 40th anniversary of Disney VoluntEARS, Disneyland Resort collaborated with Love Anaheim to pack care kits for the Anaheim Inclement Weather Shelter Network and on a series of park beautification projects in Anaheim. “Following the approval of DisneylandForward, our expanding investment in the Anaheim community and dedication to workforce development remains a top priority for us. In case you didn’t know, you’ve really got a ton of options when it comes to dining at Disney World! Aunt Polly’s To be sure you’ve got your standard theme park fare, but you can also find a wide variety of food — from All-American classics to tastes from the Caribbean and Asia and even more. Now, if you’re in Magic Kingdom, there’s this one spot you might not even know existed and it’s about it shut down permanently, so you know we’ve got to tell you all about it! As we were saying, there’s this one restaurant at Magic Kingdom that’s going to be permanently closing in 2025. We’re talking about Aunt Polly’s, and we’ve gotta have a chat about it (since no one else is)! The Magic Kingdom Restaurant You Probably Didn’t Even Know Existed Let’s be real. If you didn’t know Aunt Polly’s existed, you’re not alone. This adorable dockside restaurant is tucked away on Tom Sawyer Island, which is only accessible by raft by the way. Also, it’s been notoriously seasonal, and by seasonal we mean “rarely ever open.” Tom Sawyer Island Tom Sawyer Island itself is typically open from 10AM to 4:30PM, but Aunt Polly’s? That window gets even smaller! It was open on only the busiest of Disney World days, and usually only from 11AM to 3PM. In fact, it has been 2+ years since we’ve seen it open at all. So, if you managed to snag a snack here, consider yourself lucky! Aunt Polly’s That being said, this little quick-service spot holds a special place in our hearts. And if you’ve tasted the food, you’ll understand why this is such a loss. Wait.What’s Happening to Tom Sawyer Island? So in case you didn’t know, all of Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America are being taken out to make room for the brand-new Cars area in Frontierland. ©Disney Starting in 2025, Disney will be transforming this area into a new and unique land themed around the Cars franchise. While we’re excited about new land and all that’s coming there, we can’t help but feel a little heartbroken to say goodbye to such an overlooked gem. Why We’re Going to Miss Aunt Polly’s We’re definitely going to miss the food. Even though Aunt Polly’s might be small and seasonal, it served up some seriously delicious eats. Becky’s Buttery Biscuit Barbecued Pork Sliders: We can’t get over how hearty these sliders were. Instead of typical slider rolls, they used these thick, buttery biscuits that were perfect for soaking up all the saucy goodness of the shredded BBQ pork. This float was made with Barq’s Root Beer and creamy vanilla ice cream, and was the perfect refreshing treat to enjoy while you watch the Liberty Belle gently float by on the Rivers of America. It’s simple, nostalgic, and oh-so-delicious. Root Beer Float at Aunt Polly’s Why No One’s Talking About It (But Should Be!) Again, because Aunt Polly’s was open so rarely and required a raft ride to get to, it just wasn’t on most people’s radar, and that’s exactly why this closure feels so bittersweet. While some folks never even had the chance to try it, those of us who did know what an underrated gem it was. Aunt Polly’s So here’s a heads up: if you’re visiting Disney World by or before 2025, make it a point to get over to Tom Sawyer Island. Maybe you’ll get super lucky and find Aunt Polly’s open! So what inevitably happens is that during the afternoon, the sky opens up and starts dumping gallons of rain and these same folks make mad dashes for the nearest shop desperate for shelter and a poncho. What they’re greeted with is a less-than-sturdy poncho and a hefty price tag. Rainy Day Like we’re saying, we don’t want you to make the same poncho mistake (not bringing your own poncho and then paying theme park prices when you don’t have to). That being said, if you didn’t bring your own, I get it. It can feel like you’re lugging around a poncho “just in case” when you’re trying to stay cute and comfy in the parks. Rainy day in Magic Kingdom But if you’re already at Disney World, and rain is in the forecast, there’s a quick hack that could save you a bunch of money, and it’s hiding right in plain sight. We’re talking about heading over to the Walt Disney World Swan Hotel! Swan Hotel The $3 Poncho You Didn’t Know Existed Here’s the secret: at Java in the Swan Hotel (yes, those fancy-looking resorts just outside EPCOT and Hollywood Studios), you can snag a poncho for just three (3) bucks! Yup, you read that right $3! It comes folded up in this little plastic sleeve. Rain Poncho In some cases that’s like 75% cheaper than the ones you might find in the gift shops at the parks. Rain Poncho The catch? Well, you’ve got to make your way over to the Swan to grab one. Java at the Swan Hotel But don’t worry, even if you’re not staying at the Swan and Dolphin, this trip is totally doable. Plus, a visit to these hotels isn’t exactly a bad time. The architecture is gorgeous. Swan Resort Also, it’s just a short hop from EPCOT or Hollywood Studios, which makes for a chill little side trip during your day. It’s Going to be a Rainy Day Life-Saver Honestly, it rains a lot at Disney World, and if you’re not prepared, you’ll end up dropping unnecessary dollars on an overpriced poncho just to avoid getting soaked (or worse, drenched and then freezing in that A/C). That’s something we don’t won’t to happen to you. Rain at Magic Kingdom Sure, you can grab a poncho from your local dollar store or Amazon before your trip, but let’s face it, most of us forget to do that. So, when that inevitable downpour hits, remember this tip and don’t be afraid to hop over to the Swan Hotel. Today, September 29th, you can purchase Lightning Lane Multi Pass for one of the lowest prices we’ve seen since the service debuted in July. You know…sometimes we see things, and we kinda wish we could unsee them. Main Street, U.S.A. But at the same time, we’re happy we saw it because it means we can un-influence you from it to save you some trouble on your Disney World vacation, OR, on the flip side, it helps us recommend something that will truly make your trip easier. We try a lot of different products around here to see what’s really worth it on your Disney World vacation, and these new shoes…well, these new shoes are a disaster waiting to happen, and we’re begging you not to wear them to the parks. A fashion show is on its way to Disneyland Paris on October 1st, and people from around the world can watch it live at 10:30PM CET! Coperni, the brand hosting the show, will be showing off its Summer 2025 collection. But why are we talking about a fashion show, you ask? Well, because these shoes were featured to be part of it, and we had a visceral reaction to them. Listen, we are never one to judge what you choose to wear to the parks, HOWEVER we feel it’s of utmost importance to tell you that these are NOT a good fit for Disney World for a multitude of reasons. But the number one reason is easily those trolley tracks on Main Street. Those are ankle twisters for people in sandals and tennis shoes; we can’t imagine how easy it would be to step your high heel into the track, and oops, down you go. @coperni on Instagram Now, seasoned park goers may be looking at these and going, “Duh, I would never wear those to the parks, I know what I’m doing.” But we’ve been seeing these EVERYWHERE, meaning that we’re expecting to see a trend pop up soon where people are wearing them in the parks, and we’re here to tell you now that no matter how cute you think they are, they are probably NOT a good idea. Your feet will likely start to hurt in 0.2 seconds, and you likely won’t be able to truly enjoy any of the park because you’ll be in so much pain — and that’s if you DON’T twist your ankle on the trolley tracks. Especially if it’s slippery from rain? Game over in those shoes Trust us, we’ve been there — you have the perfect outfit planned, and you feel it’ll be ruined by your comfortable, supportive sandals and/or sneakers. Yes, we’ve been tempted to make that mistake more times than we’d care to admit, and some of us DO make that mistake and regret it 1/3 of the way (or sooner) into our park day. If you’re planning a fast-paced, move it and groove it Disney World day, we don’t recommend wearing shoes that aren’t broken in, have any sort of heel, or you know are uncomfortable. The good news is, most Disney World photos can be taken from the torso up, or you can crop your feet out, so no one will ever know that you weren’t wearing those super cute shoes. Disney’s Hollywood Studios Instead, bring those cute shoes along for a table service dining reservation in the evening! Then, you won’t be wearing them for too long and aren’t spending all day walking around, but can still get some great photos in them. You can also utilize a locker inside the parks if you want to bring the other set of shoes with you to change into without going back to your hotel or car. Two Disney World hotel restaurants have been closed for extended refurbishment. Everything Pop The World Premiere Food Court at All-Stars Movies Resort closed on July 1st and was supposed to open later in July; however, the refurbishment was pushed until mid-October. The Everything Pop Shopping and Dining food court closed on July 29th and is set to open this week! As you wander around Disney World this week, be prepared for a few other closures that will affect your vacation. Everything POP Shopping & Dining — Disney’s Pop Century Resort Everything Pop is amid its own refurbishment. Everything Pop Since July 29th, Everything Pop has been getting some work done. The refurbishment is supposed to end on September 29th. This means the food court should be back to full and normal operation on this day! We’ll be checking in on anything that may have changed while work was being done. For other closures around Disney World from September 28th through October 5th, keep reading below! Magic Kingdom Jungle Cruise The wild river ride closed on August 26th, and no, this is not some joke the Skippers just came up with! The Jungle Cruise will be back soon! The punny ride will be closed for refurbishment but will luckily reopen on October 18th if everything goes to plan. If you’re visiting Magic Kingdom over the next month and a half, we’re sorry to report that you will not get to see the eighth wonder of the world — the backside of water. Hopefully, the next time you visit, you’ll get to “ooo” and “ahhh” and this marvel! Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade We had to say goodbye to an opening day attraction on June 23rd. The Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade is closed. The Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade was around for generations and provided simple fun to all who played. Now, the attraction has closed to make room for a new Disney Vacation Club lounge. This lounge will be the third in Disney World, joining one in EPCOT and one at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. Disney has not yet announced when the new lounge will open. If Disney’s Magic Kingdom Expansion Doesn’t Include This Ride, We’re Not Going Tomorrowland Terrace Tomorrowland Terrace is a quick-service restaurant that has been closed since the 2020 pandemic-related closures, but even before that, this spot was only occasionally open. Tomorrowland Terrace Once in a while, you’ll see the dining room open as a rest area (and it’s still being used for the Magic Kingdom Fireworks Dessert Parties), but it’s usually all roped off and empty. Tomorrowland Terrace Disney hasn’t announced when this spot could finally reopen, but we’ll be watching for updates. If you’re looking for a nice spot to hang out in Disney World and sit down for a rest, this could be it! EPCOT Test Track Test Track closed on June 17th, and Disney is giving this ride a BIG makeover! ©Disney Disney has shared that the new version of Test Track will take inspiration from the old ride, World of Motion, that was originally there when the park opened in 1982. Disney recently shared more details at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Experience, including an opening timeline! We’ll be able to ride Test Trace once again in 2025. Restaurant Marrakesh Restaurant Marrakesh is currently closed as a dining location in the Morocco pavilion of EPCOT’s World Showcase, and there’s no word yet on when the restaurant could fully reopen. Florida Blue Lounge at Restaurant Marrakesh However, it is currently open as the Florida Blue Lounge during the EPCOT Food and Wine Festival. So, if you’re in the Morocco Pavilion, check it out to see if it’s open. We’re watching for updates on when the full restaurant could reopen! FYI: The Pretzel Bread Pudding in EPCOT Is Still Stupid Good. Hollywood Studios Voyage of the Little Mermaid Voyage of the Little Mermaid is currently closed in Disney World. But we recently spotted some construction walls up at the show! Voyage of the Little Mermaid Disney is going to introduce a new, updated show in this spot, though it will still be themed to the animated movie The Little Mermaid! The new show will be called “The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure” and is coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Fall 2024. ©Disney Disney still hasn’t announced an official opening date for the new show, but hopefully, we’ll hear some news soon! It will be a “fully reimagined theatrical production inspired by the Walt Disney Animation Studios classic.” Why This Hollywood Studios Single Rider Line Is a Blessing and a Curse Blizzard Beach Blizzard Beach closed for refurbishment on March 17th. Blizzard Beach While Blizzard Beach is closed, Typhoon Lagoon is currently open. The two water parks often rotate off and on for being open. And recently, Disney announced that Blizzard Beach will be reopening on November 4th, when Typhoon Lagoon will close! Click here to learn all about Blizzard Beach Disney World Hotels World Premiere Food Court — Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort The World Premiere Food Court at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort has been undergoing refurbishment since July. World Premiere Food Court This food court closed for refurbishment on July 1st and was set to reopen on July 31st. However, a change on the Disney World website and speaking with Cast Members has indicated that did not happen. Disney has recently updated the website to say it won’t open until mid-October. While it has been getting a face-lift, guests have been able to mobile order from a limited menu on the Disney World app, and seating in the food court is still available. We may not have even reached Halloween yet, but that doesn’t mean it’s too early to look toward Thanksgiving at Disney World! Disney World Tickets During the Holidays Thanksgiving is going to be here before you know it and we’re already preparing how we’ll spend the holiday in Disney World. Naturally, since the holiday does have a heavy theme around food, we’re already thinking about where at Disney World we want to have our Thanksgiving meals. If you’re planning ahead like we are, then you need to be ready for that Thanksgiving Disney World dining reservation window to open. Thanksgiving dining reservations open September 29th, 2024, 60 days before Thanksgiving. As a reminder, this 60-day window is not Thanksgiving-exclusive. Advanced Dining Reservations are commonplace (and necessary) at Disney World and are available to guests beginning 60 days before their visit. While dining reservations are always a must, this rings especially true for holidays. Liberty Tree Tavern If you’re looking to make Disney World a home away from home this Thanksgiving, there are also some special dining events you should know about. First and foremost, you should know about Liberty Tree Tavern in Magic Kingdom. This restaurant actually serves a Thanksgiving-inspired meal year-round and is extra popular around this time of year, especially for being an all-you-care-to-enjoy dining spot. The menu features Thanksgiving favorites like pot roast, roasted turkey breast, oven-roasted pork, mashed potatoes, seasonal vegetables, mac & cheese, and herb stuffing. There are even special diet, plant-based, gluten-free, and dairy-free options. We’re big fans of the Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake dessert and can’t recommend it enough! A full Thanksgiving spread at Liberty Tree Tavern Similar to Liberty Tree Tavern, The Diamond Horseshoe in Magic Kingdom offers a similar menu to Liberty Tree Tavern and is also all-you-care-to-enjoy year-round. Having this second option during a time when this kind of food will be highly sought after is a HUGE game changer. Time to FEAST! Another year-round option is Garden Grill at EPCOT. Focusing on comfort food, Garden Grill offers Thanksgiving-like menu items in an all-you-care-to-enjoy style. It also features a character meal starring Chip ‘n Dale, Pluto, and Mickey Mouse, setting itself apart from the other two entries. As for the menu, you’ll be offered family-style portions of a salad, grilled beef, barbecue roasted chicken, macaroni & cheese, seasonal vegetables, creamy mashed potatoes, and a berry shortcake for dessert. Garden Grill eats Over in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Hollywood & Vine offers the seasonal Minnie’s Holiday Dine. In the past, this buffet has offered carved herb-roasted turkey breast with garlic redskin mashed potatoes, cornbread stuffing, sautéed green beans, turkey gravy, and cranberry orange relish for Thanksgiving. You may even get a visit at your table from Minnie, Mickey, Goofy, and Pluto all in their holiday best! Minnie’s Holiday Dine! Disney Springs should have a lot going on for Thanksgiving, as well. Last year, Raglan Road Irish Pub offered a special Thanksgiving menu that included butter and herb roast turkey, roast garlic mashed potatoes, duck fat roasties, honey glazed carrots, bacon braised Brussels sprouts, sausage meat with walnut stuffing, and red wine jus with cranberry sauce. In 2023, Thanksgiving dinner at Raglan Road cost $39.99 per adult and $19.99 per child. ©Raglan Road This year, Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’ is serving the Homecomin’ Holiday Turkey Sandwich from November 24th, 2024 through January 1st, 2025. This sandwich is made with smoked turkey on toasted artisanal bread, dressed with signature cornbread stuffing and a sweet and sour cranberry aioli and is served with house-made potato chips. ©Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’ Last year, Homecomin’ offered Thanksgiving dinner to go with a meal that included Smoked Turkey with Gravy, Andouille Sausage Cornbread Stuffing, Homemade Cranberry Sauce, Whipped Mashed Potatoes, Southern Green Beans, Cheddar Drop Biscuits with Fig Jam, and four Slices of the restaurant’s famous Hummingbird Cake. The meal fed four and cost $200 plus tax. We’ll keep you posted with updates if this offering returns. ©Homecomin’ The Polite Pig also offered the Open-face Turkey Smash last year, which is made with Texas toast, mashed potatoes, cornbread stuffing, turkey gravy, and cranberry chutney. We’re hoping this one returns in 2024. ©The Polite Pig Earl of Sandwich has us hyped around Thanksgiving, as its the perfect time to pick up its famous Holiday Turkey Sandwich, which is typically available year-round. It’s made with Turkey, Cornbread Stuffing, Turkey Gravy, Cranberry Sauce and Mayonnaise. Holiday Turkey Sandwich The Disney World Hotels also usually get in on the holiday fun. Last year, Four Seasons’ Ravello offered a special Thanksgiving Character Breakfast and followed it up with a “decadent buffet with an incredible assortment of offerings, from a sushi and seafood station to a mouth-watering tapas station” for lunch and dinner. Disney World is pretty magical, even during the day. Disney’s BoardWalk at night But when it’s dark, and all the lights are low, the resort REALLY comes alive. First, Spaceship Earth literally has dancing lights all over it — and it’s INCREDIBLE. Then there are the nighttime shows like Luminous “The Symphony of Us” in EPCOT, Happily Ever After in Magic Kingdom, and Fantasmic! and Wonderful World of Animation at Hollywood Studios. But did you ever think you’d want to see a RESTAURANT at night in Disney World? Well, you may want to when Disney’s newest restaurant opens up! So we’ve been following the progress of The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers, which will be (we hope) opening soon on Disney’s BoardWalk. This restaurant has been under construction for A WHILE, and its opening has been delayed. Now that we know more about other locations of The Cake Bake Shop, we really really need to get in there ASAP (baked goods? pastries? an afternoon tea service? SIGN US UP!). The Cake Bake Shop construction Well, we recently visited the BoardWalk at night, and we got a first look at The Cake Bake Shop, all lit up at night. Let’s just say it looks like the sign was visited by Tinker Bell herself because it’s loaded with sparkles and pixie dust. It’s magical! All lit up Here’s a closer look at it all lit up. It’s BEAUTIFUL. So pretty This location has to be getting close to opening soon, right? We noticed back in May that the location had posted job openings, and that’s always a sign that a restaurant is closer to its opening day. However, we still don’t have an exact timeline of when to expect the restaurant to open. We’ll certainly be keeping an eye out for opening details, so stay tuned to DFB for more. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is Disney World’s newest attraction! Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Those visiting the Magic Kingdom have now been able to go down the Bayou with Tiana and all her friends for three months. There are so many fun details hidden throughout the attraction, including the ride’s queue. There is something right outside the attraction that popped up during the construction of the ride and has just sat there. We have no idea why it was built, and now we feel like we need to decode it! When you are heading to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure from Adventureland (near where the parade starts in Frontierland), there is a booth behind a fence in the grassy area of the attraction. We noticed this booth before the ride was open and assumed that it would be important to the story or theming, but it has been three months, and it just sits there. One of our reporters went to get a closer look at the mystery booth. Booth outside of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure The front of this booth is retrofitted with perforated metal panels, like the ones used in the Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom stations. This metal has holes punctured in it to allow sound to come through speakers behind it. Not only does this metal help hide the technology, but it also protects it from the weather. There is also a chalkboard sign that reads “Back in 5 minutes.” Closer look at the booth We wonder if this was part of a ride concept that was built and then abandoned. Or Disney may still have something in store for us! Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom closed in 2021, but could this mean it is making its return? Or maybe a new interactive game will debut in Magic Kingdom? Or, it might just be a box for the screens that tell you wait times. Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom Over in EPCOT, you can use the Play Disney Parks app to participate in Disney’s DuckTales World Showcase Adventure. This is an interactive game where you use your smartphone to play and follow along. Could this technology be used in a brand-new game in Magic Kingdom? ©Disney Currently, in Magic Kingdom, you can play A Pirate’s Adventure ~ Treasures of the Seven Seas. For this game, you head over to The Crow’s Nest in Adventureland to pick up a talisman that allows you to read a secret treasure map. When you complete each mission, you get a treasure finder card. After you collect all 5, you’ll get your hands on the sixth and final card—signed by Captain Jack Sparrow himself. Enlist in the Pirates Adventure The mystery booth is close to the border of Adventureland and Frontierland, so maybe it was going to be included in the game? We always get excited when something new turns up in Disney World. Disney Springs Recently, in Disney Springs, we’ve seen new restaurants open up, as well as new stores (although some stores have closed). We recently learned that a new pop-up shop was coming soon, though, and let’s just say the HYPE behind the shop is real. Well, that store has appeared today, and we aren’t the only folks who want to get inside. Well, we decided to visit the Disney Springs pop-up Pleasing x Fantasia shop this morning, and when we got there, there were LOADS of people waiting to get inside. LOTS of people We were also met with a virtual queue. We signed up for the virtual queue, but we were told that the wait time was probably around five hours. FIVE HOURS — that’s the longest wait in Disney World today, we’d bet. Virtual Queue sign up So we haven’t quite been inside yet, but it was revealed that the shop would have 3D animation honoring the collection and Fantasia, one of Disney’s most iconic classic movies. The collection features three sequences from Fantasia and has original illustrations of characters from the movies. The pop-up shop will be available through October 27th. SO many people If you can’t make it to Disney Springs or the shop in Houston, though, you might still be able to “find a curated assortment at select Disney Stores around the world.” The collection will be available online on October 4th at both The Pleasing and The Disney Store websites. As you make your way around the park at Disney’s Hollywood Studios you’ve probably noticed a gigantic dinosaur hanging around Echo Lake. Yeah, she’s kinda hard to miss (especially when she’s dressed in a festive ‘fit). But, what most folks don’t realize is Dinosaur Gertie is more than just a lovely photo op — she’s also a treasure trove of treats! Who’s ready for ice cream?! While visiting the park on a sunny day, we desperately needed an ice-cold treat and knew JUST where to turn to satisfy our craving! If you’ve not yet had the pleasure to make Gertie’s acquaintance in person, you’re in for quite a treat (pun intended)! She’s a pro when it comes to some fabulous selfies around Echo Lake but you’ll want to make sure to catch her good side, too, because there’s more than meets the eye to this gal (beyond towering literally stories above you)! Gertie! Yes, Gertie’s been a staple in the park for decades and even featured in one of last year’s holiday treats during Disney Jollywood Nights, but you won’t have to be so exclusive to pick up a cool treat from Dinosaur Gertie’s Ice Cream of Extinction any other day. On Gertie’s side you’ll find a walk up window where a Cast Member will serve you frozen treats and ice cream to your heart’s content. Just tell ’em Gertie sent you over! Atmosphere Oh, hey — you made it! How was that loop around the lake for ya? Pretty tiring we bet! Well, you’ve come to the right place. The beauty of this restaurant is that it’s more of a permanent snack kiosk than a true quick service restaurant. Here, you’re able to walk right up, place your order, and have it made and served to you right before your very eyes! Dinosaur Gertie’s Ice Cream of Extinction To the left side of the entrance you’ll find a small sign with the post hours for the day — you’ll want to pay close attention to these because this gal isn’t a fan of being open the full park day (a dinosaur needs her beauty rest, ya know?). Hours and small menu To the right of the stand, you’ll also find a small set up where you can grab utensils and napkins (trust us when we say you’re gonna wanna keep those handy for later)… Self-serve utensils … and just to the side of where you order (if you’re brave enough to venture over) you could learn a few things about Gertie’s history and how she came to claim Echo Lake as her home. Gertie history! Yes, there really isn’t much to this little spot beyond that but that’s the beauty of it all! As for seating, you really don’t need any here because everything has a great walkability score BUTTTT if you’re really needing to sit for a spell there are a few nearby juts of concrete near the greenery or its just a short walk over to the patio tables and chairs near the side of For The First Time In Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration and Mickey and Minnie Vacation Fun Animated Shorts. Menu Just like the restaurant atmosphere here, the menu is going to be fairly short and sweet! Here you’ll find a few ice cream treat options like soft-serve in a waffle cone and those beloved Mickey ice cream bars. Menu So while you might not have a ton of choices to choose from, you will get some variety in flavors of soft-serve ice cream which makes narrowing down your choices so much easier to be honest! Eats Alright, so now that we’ve got our choices laid out before us, we’d say it’s time to dig in! We started off with a waffle cone! Waffle Cone This treat is served with your choice of either vanilla, chocolate, or swirl soft-serve ice cream in a crisp waffle cone for $6.29. In terms of taste, you’re truly getting exactly what you’re bargaining for with this delicious treat. We chose to go with chocolate soft-serve for this visit! She’s a little melty The creamy soft-serve ice cream is the basic variety you’ll find throughout the Disney World parks. You’ll want to make sure you’re ready to eat it quickly because it doesn’t stand much of a chance before it’s completely melted in the Florida sun. The cone itself is thin and crisp with a light cinnamon aftertaste. It breaks off easily when you bite into it. Just the soft-serve ice cream The next treat we chose might be one of the most iconic Disney World treats of all time. The Nestlé Premium Mickey Ice-Cream Bar was next on our line up for $6.29 as well. Mickey Ice-Cream Bar This little pre-packaged treat is made of vanilla ice cream coated in a milk chocolate hard shell and served on a popsicle stick. Out of the wrapper While this truly is a memorable snack for its shape. and it would take a LOT for vanilla ice cream and milk chocolate not to be a iconic combination, that’s really all it has going for it. Don’t get us wrong, Mickey-shaped anything tastes amazing. You’ll play a game of roulette each time you pick one up (especially if you’re looking to snap some cute pics with it), because you can’t see if the chocolate is cracked in it before you’re ready to take pictures of it out of the wrapper. But its melting score holds up much better against the likes of the soft-serve in the waffle cone. So iconic This is the snack everyone wants to get while at Disney World, but most of the time ends up forgetting to grab one since you can find them all over Disney World’s parks, hotels, and Disney Springs, or passing on it due to the weather and humidity. However, if you do happen to remember, you’ll find yourself scrambling to eat quickly instead of savoring it as a real treat because it can get melty! Overall All in all, this is just a solid stop. It’s not one that we’re going to recommend you have to stop by every visit (especially since its hours can be pretty hit or miss), but it’s one that when it’s open its a sigh of relief for the reliable treat to cool off with! Stop by and say hi to Gertie! It’s a pretty convenient location that’s easy to spot, and Gertie the dinosaur is an icon herself. However, we do wish they had more remarkable treats to offer at this location — so if you’re really looking for something special, we recommend stopping by for limited-time treats and seasonal offerings near the holidays. Even if you find yourself nearby and the restaurant is closed, you can always take a selfie with a larger-than-life dino, and we think that’s quite the achievement in and of itself. Nosh or Not? Hop on by Gertie’s stomping grounds if… You’re aching for a classic treat! If the thought of a Mickey ice-cream bar makes you giddy with excitement, why not have the perfect backdrop for that inevitable pic you’re going to take of it!? Ice cream is the only thing that will curb your craving in the moment. This place is ALL about the ice cream. Soft-serve, bars, frozen treats — it’s all here! You’re looking to score some bragging rights. What better way to impress your friends and family than a picture with Gertie AND a snack break? We’ll wait while you mull that over for a bit. We think you should march to the beat of your own drum if… You’re not about a basic ice cream treat. We get it, not all ice cream is created equal. If you’re all about jazzing up your soft serve with toppings and sauces, who are we to talk you out of it? You just won’t find that sort of thing here. You’ve already met your trip quota of Mickey ice-cream bars. You just might split a seam if you try to pack in one more Mickey ice cream bar. And while the realization of that hurts, it’s probably not as bad as your stomach right now at the thought of adding one more to the tally. The menu here looks almost extinct to you. It’s like it’s in the name or something, huh? Yeah, there’s just not a whole lot going on here other than an old-reliable treat to grab and keep going. From the massive D23 Ultimate Fan Event in Anaheim, California, we learned that a new Coco attraction is coming to the Disneyland Resort. Together Forever at Pixar Fest ©Disney The attraction will be a boat ride in Disney California Adventure that, unsurprisingly given the plot of the film, will see music play a large role. Josh D’Amaro went on to say, “Walt Disney Imagineering will draw inspiration for the attraction from beloved classics, like Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean. We’re bringing our skeletal cast of characters to life in a big way through the latest Audio-Animatronics technology. These figures will appear in ways you’ll have to see to believe.” We’re excited to learn about this first ever attraction inspired by Coco! You’ll be joining Miguel on a special journey, seeing characters and hearing unforgettable songs from Coco on a trip to the Land of the Dead. Coming to Disney California Adventure, the first ever attraction inspired by Pixar Animation Studios’ “Coco” lets guests join Miguel on a trip to the Land of the Dead.
