With its twinkling lights, upbeat music and glowing characters, the Electrical Water Pageant has been dazzling guests at Walt Disney World from the very beginning … literally! From 1971 to now, this one-of-a-kind, complimentary nighttime spectacle has become a classic for Disney fans visiting from around the globe. Whether you’re watching the Electrical Water Pageant for the first time along the shores of Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon or pointing out your favorite scenes to friends while riding the monorail, we’re bringing you behind the scenes for a look into this spectacular’s sparkling history with some insider info on the best places to see it. Early Concepts of Disney’s Electrical Water Pageant While dreaming up ideas for Disney World, the project team wanted to create something that could entertain hotel guests after Magic Kingdom closed for the night. Disney Legend and Imagineer Marc Davis was tapped for the task. You may be familiar with some of his other work. He created character concepts for iconic Disney attractions like the Enchanted Tiki Room, Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion and more. Some of his early concept art for the Electrical Water Pageant shows the parade almost had a Fantasia (1940) theme (pictured above) but later evolved into a show that could tell many stories in glowing, glittering animation on the water – and Disney Legend Bob Jani helped bring this concept to life. “The Walt Disney World property was so vast that we had no horizon lights, or any city lights, which meant we had perfect black, and I just started fantasizing about what we could do with that,” Bob said. On Oct. 24, 1971, the Electrical Water Pageant’s patriotic finale was accompanied by fireworks. The sky was the limit, and what they created was a stunning show where characters appeared out of the night as if by magic. It continues to shine more than 50 years later. Peeking behind the pixie dust, the magic actually happens on two 456-foot barges made up of 25-foot-tall screens. Each panel is covered in twinkling lights that blink on and off to bring parade characters and stunning scenery to life. Iconic Disney Music for an Iconic Disney Parade Complementing its stunning visuals, the Electrical Water Pageant was the very first show where guests heard the “electro-synthe-magnetic musical sounds” of “Baroque Hoedown.” Recorded on synthesizers in 1967 by electronic music composers Gershon Kingsley and Jean-Jacques Perrey, “Baroque Hoedown” went on to become legendary at Disney. I know what you’re thinking, and yes, that’s the very same song that was used in the Main Street Electrical Parade at Disneyland, Disney World and Disneyland Paris! Guests watched the debut of the Electrical Water Pageant from the beach of Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort on Oct. 24, 1971.The Legacy of the Electrical Water Pageant at Disney Parks The Electrical Water Pageant officially debuted on October 24, 1971. Less than 24 hours later, Roy O. Disney delivered Disney World’s official dedication at Magic Kingdom. Guests sat in rows of chairs along the beach of the resort after, oohing and aahing as the pageant floated by. The show was incredibly popular. So much so that when new nighttime entertainment was being designed for Disneyland, Bob Jani pitched an idea for how they could bring the Electrical Water Pageant to shore on the West Coast. The Electrical Water Pageant was the direct forerunner of the Main Street Electrical Parade. So, in 1972, the Main Street Electrical Parade stepped off for the first time at Disneyland with original floats that used twinkling lights on flat panels just like the Electrical Water Pageant. It also used the same music: Perrey and Kingsley’s “Baroque Hoedown.” The toe-tapping track may not have reached its now-legendary status if not for the parade’s aquatic forerunner at Disney World. From 1971 to Now Since its debut, the show has been updated with new music and characters. Did you know that long before Ariel was designed for “The Little Mermaid,” there was a trio of red-headed mermaids in the show? The pageant has also featured special, limited-time finale scenes over the years that highlight milestone anniversaries at Walt Disney World – like during our 50th Anniversary celebration or the Tencennial! While the show has had many iterations over the past 53 years, the Electrical Water Pageant continues to be one of the most beloved complimentary nighttime entertainment offerings at Disney World. Today, a small but mighty crew of five Disney Transportation cast members drive the twinkling barges across Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake every night. Many have been working at the Electrical Water Pageant for decades and feel great pride in bringing this vacation staple to life each night. Where to Watch the Electrical Water Pageant Some of the most tenured cast members who pilot the pageant shared their insider knowledge on the very best places to watch the show. Here’s what they recommend: Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa – The patio at Narcoossee’s and the resort boat dock Disney’s Contemporary Resort – The resort boat dock Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort – The resort boat dock and beach Disney’s Wilderness Lodge – Geyser Point Bar & Grill Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground – The resort boat dock and beach Whether you’re adding the Electrical Water Pageant to your vacation must-dos for the first time, or your family has been watching it for decades, we hope you enjoy the spectacle just a little bit more now that you know its history! These hacks are going VIRAL. Magic Kingdom A trip to Walt Disney World can be a bit overwhelming. Between all the pre-planning and the trip itself, there can be a lot to keep in mind. That’s where Walt Disney World hacks come in! We scoured TikTok to see what Disney World hacks and tips were currently spreading on the platform. Now some of these might be familiar to longtime Disney fans – – some we’ve even discussed before – – but the fact that they’re spreading across TikTok goes to show just how well they work! DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. Discount Gift Cards Several TikToks spoke about picking up discounted Disney gift cards at members-only shopping clubs like Costco or Sam’s Club, and then in turn using them to either pay for a Disney trip in full OR using them as a way to budget spending money while on their trip. Disney Gift Cards Even savings of 10-20% per card can add up to big savings when combined together. CHECK IT OUT HERE Bring a Stanley We came across several TikTok videos that talked about the fact that Disney has free water stations throughout their parks, and recommended bringing a Stanley or other tumbler to refill as opposed to buying water bottles. ©Target Again, diehard Disney aficionados may have been familiar with this information, but clearly many travelers outside the bubble weren’t. CHECK IT OUT HERE Anyone Can Order Off the Kids’ Menu If the most appealing item on a Disney restaurant menu to you is on the kids’ menu, don’t feel like you can’t order it or feel the need to pretend you’re traveling with a child. You can simply order it yourself. Kids Menu It’s important to note that this works at Disney World quick-service restaurants, but there are policies about age when ordering off the kids menu at many table-service restaurants. Use FuelRods FuelRods are the portable charger system available at Walt Disney World. Once you buy one and use it, you can return it to a FuelRod vending machine a replace it with another (that is fully charged!) as many times as you like. Something NEW just debuted at Disney World’s Halloween party and we think you’re gonna love it! It’s Halloween in Disney World! We’ve had a ton of fun kicking off this season’s first Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween party and checking out all the eats, treats, spooky entertainment, and rare character meet and greets we could get around to in one night. But, if you’ve already attended one of this year’s parties, this party exclusive may be the thing to make you book another trip sooner than you expected! If you’ve been considering a trip to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party this year at Disney World we may have just found the right leverage to make you actually snag those tickets soon! These parties are held throughout the late Summer through the Fall season in Magic Kingdom on select nights as a special ticketed event not included with regular park admission. The parties start at 7PM and end at 12AM but, party guests can enter the park as early as 4PM with just the party ticket (giving you an option to start getting in a few rides or snacks before the festivities start). Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party These parties are a hit year after year due to their immensely popular party exclusives which include whole lines of merchandise. We just can’t seem to help ourselves when it comes to good Disney Halloween merch! We were stunned to find out that Disney World dropped the Mickey pumpkin popcorn bucket after initially stating it would be found in Disneyland for this Halloween season. Isn’t he just adorable?! Mickey Pumpkin Popcorn Bucket But, that’s not the only playful “trick” Disney World seemed to have up its sleeve! Just days ago, Disney also teased that a 2nd party-exclusive popcorn bucket would become available during MNSSHP and of course, we had to go see what all the fuss was about! After standing in line for hours before the party officially started, we finally were met with our “treat”! Scary Teddy! If this little guy looks familiar that’s because you’ve probably briefly seen him featured in Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas. Scary Teddy seems to have been a hit on his debut day as we overheard several disappointed partygoers noting they were sold out before they had a chance to snag one. Scary Teddy popcorn bucket He’s truly a sight to behold and much larger than we anticipated from the promotional picture! The arms and legs move to a seated and out front position making him somewhat posable. While the Scary Teddy popcorn bucket doesn’t light up, the friendly Cast Member who introduced his appearance in the line did explain that the eyes and teeth can glow after being in direct light for a bit. ©Disney The top half of his head leans back (a la Stitch style) to reveal your golden popcorn cavern to scoop your snack out of… There’s the popcorn! …and there are also a few notable characters from the movie on the carrying strap… Love the carrying strap design …plus his backside includes a long cape! The cape We figured this little guy would be a smash hit at only $26 to purchase and we’re glad we didn’t wait too long to get a peek at him before they were all sold out. These popcorn buckets are sold ONLY during MNSSHP while supplies last and the Cast Members did tell us that there is a limit of 2 per popcorn bucket style per wristband in each transaction. We’ve checked out everything there is to see, do, and taste at Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party. EVERYONE Is Going to Be Wearing Disney’s New Halloween Souvenir This Year IT'S SPOOK-TACULAR! Okay, we like to talk a LOT about our favorite — and some of the best — snacks in Disney World. Magic Kingdom How many times will we talk about Corn Dog Nuggets, or Mini Corn Dogs, or whatever Disney is calling them these days? A LOT (especially mentioning that plastic CHEEEEEESSSEEE). We’re also super big fans of Totchos and mention them A LOT. However, we’re going to turn things around for a bit as we head on over to Magic Kingdom. Sorry to get negative here, but we’re going to tell you about the WORST snacks available at Magic Kingdom. Basically, though, we’re just warning you, so you’ll know better. We’ll warn you now: Magic Kingdom may be our least favorite park when it comes to food, so it may seem like we’re picking on it, and maybe we are. With that being said, here are the WORST snacks in Magic Kingdom. Waffle snacks at Sleepy Hollow So here’s the thing: Sleepy Hollow used to have our FAVORITE snacks because they had these delicious waffle sandwiches: one savory with a spicy chicken and another with fruit and chocolate-hazelnut spread. Then, Disney did the unthinkable: they changed the waffles AND the menu. What was once our favorite thing is now one of our least favorite things. The new waffles are Mickey-shaped, and while that’s often a good thing, the new waffles are completely different. Fruit Mickey Waffle The old waffles were soft and crispy. The new waffles are almost pancake-like and once all the toppings get added, they get all soggy and gross. We’re not sure why Disney thought this was a good idea, but we’re still begging for the old waffles to come back (hey, it worked with the Hush Puppies at Columbia Harbour House, so we have hope). Read our review of these new waffles here Turkey leg Turkey legs are gross. There, we said it. Sure, some people think they might be fun to carry around, but at the same time, they just aren’t a snack we’re going to voluntarily eat. They are smoky and meaty, but they’re also salty, greasy, and grisly. Ew. This is one snack you’ll never convince us to like. Turkey Leg The thing is — we rarely see people walking around Magic Kingdom with one of these things, so why are they still available? We guess SOMEONE is ordering them, and if it’s you, we’re sorry because we don’t agree with your snack choices. Read our turkey leg review Plant-based Cheese Pizza at Pinocchio Village Haus Over at Pinocchio Village Haus, you can get a plant-based “cheese” pizza. But trust us, you don’t want to. It’s a regular pizza topped with tomato sauce and plant-based cheese. It might as well be a microwave pizza and the “cheese” is weird because the consistency is more like a melty cream cheese. Does this look appetizing to you? The crust is also thin and chewy, and when we tried it, we even tried to doctor it up with barbecue sauce and red pepper flakes. But there’s no hope for this snack. There are better plant-based options in the parks, so we’ll always tell, you to skip this one. Read our full review of this pizza Mickey Cereal Treat with Freeze-Dried SKITTLES at Main Street Confectionery Okay, Disney is suddenly OBSESSED with putting freeze-dried Skittles on everything, and we’re not sure why. Maybe there’s a kid in charge of the menu or something…who knows? Anyway, the Mickey Crispy Treat dipped in white chocolate with freeze dried Skittles was a HUGE mistake. Would you try this treat? Admittedly, it looked kinda’ cool, but flavor-wise? These are flavors that don’t work well together. Separately, maybe? Together? NO WAY. Read our full review of this snack Pork Carnitas Rice Bowl at Pecos Bill Pecos Bill has been going downhill in the food department for a while now. We’re not big fans of much of the menu here, but the Pork Carnitas Rice Bowl is particularly bad. It’s made with cilantro rice topped with seasoned pork, grilled peppers and onions, pinto beans, lettuce, tomato, sour cream, and salsa. You’d think it would be loaded with flavor, but the meat isn’t seasoned well AT ALL and some of the pieces are fatty. YUCK. Pork Carnitas Rice Bowl That’s not all, though. It’s served with pinto beans, which are kinda’ boring. The cilantro rice has zero cilantro flavor and the last time we ordered this bowl, much of our rice was undercooked. Read our most recent Pecos Bill review So with all that being said, Magic Kingdom really needs to step up its snacks game. As we said, the potential is there, but something has got to give with the current menus. Stay tuned to DFB for more. REVIEW: Should Disney RETIRE These Old Snacks? It’s not always pixie dust and fairy tales at Disney World. Magic Kingdom That means that when you’re planning for a trip to Disney World, it’s always better to go in with your eyes wide open. So while Disney has some amazing experiences, rides, and food, there are a couple of brutal realities that no one really talks about, but you need to know! As we said, Disney World is magical, but there are some brutal realities that you need to know about. Let’s go over some of them now! “Magical” Doesn’t Mean “Perfect” As you can imagine, the word “magic” gets thrown around a lot when people talk about Disney World, but here’s the truth — not everything is perfect. You’ll find that rides break down, shows get canceled, and sometimes the “magic” is just not there. Space Mountain is notoriously closed. For example, imagine that you’ve been gearing up for Space Mountain all day, only to find out it’s temporarily closed right when you get there. Or that you’ve been setting aside time to catch that your favorite parade, just to have it get rained out. Rainy day in Disney World To be sure, Disney tries hard, but the reality is that things can and do go wrong. So, just be ready to roll with the punches because even Disney World can have an “off” day. The Pressure to Have the “Perfect” Day Is Real Even us “Disney pros” have had this happen to us — You think you’re headed for quite literally the best day ever, but instead, you end up feeling like you’ve run back-to-back marathons. EPCOT For some reason there’s this insane pressure to hit every ride, catch every show, and make every meal reservation on time, and let’s not forget the stress of making sure your story on social media is on point! EPCOT Take it from us that trying to squeeze everything into one day can make you feel more like a drill sergeant than a relaxed vacationer. This may sound like a spoiler alert, but you’re probably not going to be able to do everything at Disney World during your trip, and that’s okay! Not All the Rides Are Worth the Hype There’s no question that Disney rides, especially some of the OG ones are S-Tier legendary — Space Mountain, Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion. That being said, not all of the rides at Disney World live up to the hype. Pirates! There are a fair number of the classic rides that are more about nostalgia than actual thrills. Sure, it’s cool to say you rode “it’s a small world,” but don’t expect it to be a mind-blowing experience. “it’s a small world!” It’s cute, it’s classic, but is it worth a 100-minute wait? Probably not (and we happen to love it’s a Small World). In the end, just be prepared for some letdowns, and don’t be afraid to skip a ride if it doesn’t do it for you. You’ll Spend More Time Waiting Than Actually Doing If no one has ever told you this before, just know that Disney World is basically the kingdom of queues. Waiting in line is just a fact of life here. Whether it’s for rides, food, or even bathrooms, you’re going to spend a lot of time standing around. Crowds at Magic Kingdom can be a lot You’ll find that the wait times for popular rides can be well over an hour, and that’s on a good day. It’s one of those brutal truths you just have to accept if you want to experience the magic. Make sure to pack extra patience with you because it’s a necessity. You Will Walk More Than You’ve Ever Walked in Your Life We hope you’re ready to rack up some serious steps. Disney World is HUGE, and unless you’re planning to park yourself on a bench all day, you’re going to be on your feet. Animal Kingdom We’re in the parks all the time and it’s not uncommon to hit 20,000 steps (or more) in a single day. Another fact of life here at Disney World is that your feet are going to ache by the end of the day. ©Amazon Our best recommendation is that you wear comfortable shoes. They’re going to become your best friends. What Shoes Should You Wear in Disney World? Click Here! Your Phone Battery Will Die Between all the selfies you’ll take with Cinderella Castle, checking all the wait times, making dining reservations, navigating the park, and updating your social media, your phone battery doesn’t stand a chance. Magic Kingdom By mid-afternoon, you’ll most likely be on the hunt to find an outlet or wishing you had packed a power bank. ©Amazon So make sure you’re prepared by bringing your own power bank and/a power strip, because nothing kills the magic faster than a dead phone. Best Phone Chargers for Disney The Weather Can Ruin Your Day Last up, Florida weather can be both unpredictable and downright brutal. It might rain seemingly out of nowhere and leave you drenched from head to toe, or the heat and humidity might make you feel like you’re walking on the surface of the sun. Rainy Day at EPCOT And don’t think winter will save you because it can get surprisingly chilly. The weather is a wild card that can turn your magical day into a miserable one if you’re not prepared. Pack accordingly, check the weather forecast constantly, and be ready for anything. Tropical Storm Debby at Animal Kingdom There you have it — a couple of the brutal realities at Disney World. Did we miss any that are on your list? Go ahead and share them with us down in the comments, and keep it here at DFB for all the latest Disney news and more! Do you use Lightning Lanes when you go to Disney World? Scanning into a Lightning Lane at Disney World Recently, Disney World updated its skip-the-line system from Genie+ to Lightning Lane Multi Pass, and we’ve been learning all its ins and outs since it premiered in July. On top of learning the intricacies and rules, we’ve been monitoring the price of Lightning Lane Multi Pass for each park, each day. And there’s something interesting you should know about prices this week. Since Lightning Lane Multi Pass premiered in late July, the price per person, per day for Magic Kingdom hasn’t dropped below $25. It has stayed consistently between $25 and $27 since then. Even during the old Genie+ system, Magic Kingdom’s price has been above $25 since May 1st, 2024. ©Disney On September 2nd, Magic Kingdom’s price dropped to $23 per person, but on September 4th, it will dip down to $20! That’s the lowest price we’ve seen in months. September is often one of the cheaper months to visit Disney World, so this makes sense historically. Lightning Lane at Haunted Mansion So how does Lightning Lane Multi Pass work? Well, you can purchase 7 days in advance of your visit if you’re staying on-site and 3 days in advance of your visit if you’re staying off-site. You can make 3 Lightning Lane selections in a theme park in advance of your visit, ©Disney To book your Lightning Lanes, you’ll use the My Disney Experience app. Once you get to the parks and use a Lightning Lane, you can book another, repeating the process throughout the day and holding three in your account at all times. Disneyland We’ve already got our tickets for Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party in Magic Kingdom and Jollywood Nights in Hollywood Studios, but if you’ll be over on the West Coast for the holiday season, never fear! Disney recently announced all the offerings that will be coming back to Disneyland Resort this year for the holidays, including the beloved Festival of Holidays! Holidays at the Disneyland Resort will take place from November 15th through January 6th, 2025 this year, and Festival of Holidays will be returning to Disney California Adventure right along with it. It’ll begin on November 15th with the rest of the festivities, and while we don’t know how many Festive Food Marketplaces there will be this year, we know they’ll be returning. 2023 Disney Festival of the Holidays The beloved Sip and Savor Pass will also be returning with 4-ticket and 8-ticket options, and you’ll be able to watch new cultural performance groups throughout the festival, as well as the “Mickey’s Happy Holidays” cavalcade. Don’t forget about the merchandise! We got a sneak peek at the new collection we’ll be able to pick up this year, and we love it already! ©Disney We love attending this festival every year, so we highly recommend making time in your Disneyland itinerary to check it out! 2023 Merry Mashups Booth Also around Disney California Adventure for the holidays will be the Disney ¡Viva Navidad! festivities over at Paradise Gardens! Here you’ll find daily crafts, live music, and special menu items that are all inspired by Latin American traditions. And you won’t want to miss seeing the Disney ¡Viva Navidad! street party AND getting to meet Mickey, Minnie, The Three Caballeros, and Mirabel from Encanto! ©Disney Don’t forget that November 15th is also a huge day in Disneyland for a different reason — Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will finally be opening to the public. How much pixie dust is too much to pardon? A crane has popped up at the construction site Construction is a fact of life at Disney World. Whether we’re talking about ride refurbishments, hotel enhancements, or even a brand-spanking-new expansion, it’s hard to find a time when there isn’t some kind of work happening at Disney World. So, when will it end? Well, it’s a bit more complicated than that. The Disney company often likes to channel Walt Disney’s well-known quote about Disneyland “never being finished” when announcing construction projects, and it certainly applies to Disney World right now. Currently, there are several major projects happening at the resort including: Some rooms at the Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter will be under refurbishment from May until November 2024. EPCOT’s Test Track has been closed since June as the ride is being reimagined into a new experience that will take some inspiration from World of Motion (the EPCOT original that Test Track replaced in the 1990s). This is scheduled to reopen in 2025. Test Track under construction Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort is set to undergo a lengthy refurbishment from September 2024 to September 2025. While the resort will still be available to book during these times, rooms may be limited. Massive work is ongoing at the Polynesian Village Resort including construction of a new Disney Vacation Club Tower, Villas, restaurants, and even new recreation offerings! One effect of this construction is that the walkway between the Polynesian and Grand Floridian is currently closed — so you’ll need to take the Monorail in the meantime. Polynesian Tower construction The Cake Bake Shop at the BoardWalk Resort is STILL under construction, with its promised 2024 opening beginning to look tenuous. The Fantasia Pool at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort will be closed from January 2025 to April 2025. While it’s closed, you can still swim in the Duck Pond Pool (as well as the feature pools at the neighboring All-Star Resort hotels). Cake Bake Shop construction Work is ongoing in Adventureland at Magic Kingdom. Also, while this one hasn’t started yet, definitely keep this in mind for 2025 trip-planning purposes: from January to June 2025, Stormalong Bay and Shipwreck Pool – – arguably the BEST pool complex at Disney World – – will be CLOSED at Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resort for routine maintenance. Stormalong Bay at Disney’s Yacht Club Hotel So, after all that’s done construction will be done right? Wrong. In the next several years, Disney World will see massive construction projects at Magic Kingdom (Cars Land, Villains Land), Hollywood Studios (Monsters, Inc. Land), and Animal Kingdom (Tropical Americas), as well as surely countless other refurbishment projects around the resort. ©Disney So in other words, our initial query was admittedly a bit of a trick question: There is NO end to Disney World construction, as work is always ongoing. Even after those recently announced expansions, Disney will start another big project to continue changing and improving the resort. Stay tuned to DFB for further updates on Disney World construction. Disney World’s nighttime shows are some of our favorite forms of entertainment! Fireworks Disney does a great job of using visual elements such as fireworks, lasers, and projections combined with music to create an immersive storytelling experience. There has been a one-of-kind Disney World nighttime show happening this summer that fans have really enjoyed, but unfortunately, it’s last show is happening SOON. Disney Dreams That Soar has been ongoing at Disney Springs since May 24th. It was the first drone show to come to Disney World and the first nighttime show at Disney Springs. It features 800 drones creating amazing images in the sky set to memorable Disney music. ‘Up’ house in Disney Dreams That Soar Images like the Up house, the Star Wars Death Star, Peter Pan, Dumbo, and more light up the night sky. However, you only have one more night to see this magical event. The last shows for Disney Dreams That Soar is scheduled for September 2nd. There are two times available to catch the show, 9PM and 10:45PM. Death Star in Disney Dreams That Soar There has been no word on other drone shows coming to Disney World at this point, but this one at Disney Springs has been popular! If you’re hoping to catch one of the last two shows, you may want to arrive early to save a good spot as it may be busy. Disney Dreams That Soar There are viewing areas roped off and some restaurants have great views. The official viewing area, though, is on the West Side of Disney Springs along the water between the Aerophile balloon and the Cirque du Soleil Theatre. Dreams That Soar Viewing Area We’ve watched it from the top of the Coca-Cola building with a pretty good view! However, the show’s music will likely be muted here as the rooftop bar plays its own music. View of the drone show from the Coca-Cola rooftop The show also interacts with your MagicBand+, so come ready to see your band light up with the drones! It’s SO cool Hopefully, you got to catch this cool show or are able to view it for the last night at one of its last shows! For more Disney news, keep following DFB! We thought we had just about seen it all when it came to Disney-related horror films, but, here we are. After Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey ruined our childhood perception of the loveable ol’ bear, we were sure we’d never recover. ©Jagged Edge Productions And then it was announced that those same creators would be making another slasher movie in the same universe called Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble (no, that’s not a joke) featuring characters like Bambi, Tinker Bell, Pinocchio, Peter Pan, Tigger, Piglet, and more. But, they’re not stopping there because yet another Disney character will be getting his own scary movie and we’re sharing everything we know. From the creators of Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey and Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble comes the latest Disney-related slasher film — this time, all about a boy who never grew up. Peter Pan’s Nightmare Neverland tells the story of Wendy Darling as she attempts to rescue her brother Michael from “the clutches of the evil Peter Pan.” Welp, that sure sounds utterly terrifying and will no doubt ruin even more childhood memories. ©Jagged Edge Productions You can catch the trailer for Peter Pan’s Nightmare Neverland below, but it may not be appropriate for youngin’s so just keep that in mind: Peter Pan is just the latest character to be written into a slasher film thanks to the character now being part of the public domain, like Winnie the Pooh and Steamboat Willie himself. The original Peter Pan character and story was written by J.M. Barrie. His first appearance as a character was in 1902 — so Peter Pan has been around long before Disney. Still, he’s a character that many find synonymous with the Walt Disney Company ever since that first movie came out in 1953. ©Jagged Edge Productions If Winnie the Pooh and Peter Pan aren’t scary enough for you, you can also be terrorized by Mickey Mouse Trap, a similar horror movie that was released shortly after Steamboat Willie became part of the public domain — and thus, fair use to be featured in any number of unscrupulous productions. It follows a character named Alex, who is working a late shift at an amusement arcade on her 21st birthday. Her friends show up to surprise her, and then things take a horrifying turn as they all end up hunted by a simultaneously terrifying and silly-looking fellow in a Mickey mask. If you’re looking forward to seeing Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare, we have excellent news for you — it will be released on Halloween, October 31st. Just in time for you to never be able to sleep again. ©Jagged Edge Productions One thing is for sure, we’ll be on the lookout for any terrifying Peter Pan impersonators. Well, that and that you can always count on us to bring you the latest Disney news and more — so make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog! To be sure most every snack with the name “Mickey” in it (i.e. Mickey pretzel) and Dole Whips always hit the spot, but there have been a couple of menu items that have made us gasp, guffaw, and sometimes even gag. Let’s talk about ’em! As we were saying, there have been some Disney World foods that have left us feeling like, “Did Disney really just serve that?” The Pickle Milkshake at the EPCOT Food & Wine Festival Yup, you read that right. We’re talking about a Pickle Milkshake. This “concoction” has definitely caused quite a stir. And while pickles and milkshakes together sounds like a dare that went too far, but it’s actually available at Disney World. Pickle Milkshake Imagine, if you can, the cool creamy sweetness of a vanilla milkshake but now add a hefty dose of pickle juice. Let’s just say that it’s such a twist that it’ll leave your taste buds confused. You can go ahead and put this in the one-and-done category. ALERT: Disney’s Infamous Pickle Milkshake Is BACK in EPCOT, and It Brought a Weird Friend Squid’s Revenge at Be Our Guest Restaurant So, back during Disney World’s 50th anniversary, Disney decided to push the boundaries of culinary creativity with the Squid’s Revenge drink at Be Our Guest Restaurant. We’re not talking about just an octopus-flavored drink (which would be wild in its own right), but a cocktail that’s served with an actual tentacle. Yup, a real deal tentacle. Yup, that’s an octopus tentacle in our drink. We’re all for adventurous eating and drinking, but this one just might have taken things a bit too far. It’s probably safe to say that the combination of alcohol and an actual sea creature might be just enough to trigger the gag reflexes in a lot of people. REVIEW: We Drank an OCTOPUS Cocktail in Disney World and It Went About as Well as You’d Think! The Swine Brine at the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival Food & Wine is usually guaranteed to be a treasure trove of delicious discoveries, but the Swine Brine? Well, that’s a WHOLE different story. Swine Brine This “unique” cocktail features Jim Beam Bourbon, apple cinnamon cider, lemon juice, Dijon mustard, and an actual chunk of pork, which altogether sounds like a confusing mashup of flavors. This is probably going to be one of those novelties that you try once and then never speak of again. Hold On, WHAT?! Did This EPCOT Food and Wine Festival Booth Make Us Like SWINE BRINE?! The Walt Disney Company is the owner of networks such as ABC, ESPN, and Freeform, all of which may be included in cable network lineups. ©The Walt Disney Company These networks are provided through cable providers such as Dish Network, DirecTV, and others via distribution deals Disney has with each company. However, the latest distribution deal fell through with a major U.S. provider, and the results caused blackouts of the Disney channels for millions of consumers. On Sunday, Disney removed its ABC stations, ESPN, and other networks from DirectTV’s programming lineup, according to CNN. This caused these major channels to go dark as major sports seasons began including the NFL season. The two companies, Disney and DirecTV, had been working on an agreement for the networks but it expired before a new agreement could be made causing Disney-owned channels to blackout. ©ABC Ron Thun, chief content officer at DirecTV, said in a statement, “The Walt Disney Co. is once again refusing any accountability to consumers, distribution partners, and now the American judicial system. Disney is in the business of creating alternate realities, but this is the real world where we believe you earn your way and must answer for your own actions. They want to continue to chase maximum profits and dominant control at the expense of consumers – making it harder for them to select the shows and sports they want at a reasonable price.” ©DirecTV The blackout of Disney-owned networks affected over 11 million DirecTV subscribers ahead of kickoff for a college football game, in the middle of the US Open tennis tournament, and just days before the NFL season opener. Disney representatives Dana Walden, Alan Bergman, and ESPN Chairman Jimmy Pitaro commented, “DirecTV chose to deny millions of subscribers access to our content just as we head into the final week of the US Open and gear up for college football and the opening of the NFL season. While we’re open to offering DirecTV flexibility and terms which we’ve extended to other distributors, we will not enter into an agreement that undervalues our portfolio of television channels and programs. We urge DirecTV to do what’s in the best interest of their customers and finalize a deal that would immediately restore our programming.” ©ESPN Disney stated that the rates they were asking for from DirecTV were in line with those they ask of other providers and are at value of its networks. According to a Disney spokesperson, DirecTV has sought “unreasonable” discounts. However, DirecTV shared that Disney had demanded the carrier waive all “future legal claims that its behavior is anti-competitive.” ©ESPN “Unfortunately, while [direct-to-consumer] offerings have evolved, pay TV packages have remained largely unchanged,” Thun said. “Instead of allowing distributors like DirecTV to also develop smaller, more tailored packages at prices that reflect the value they get from the content, programmers have continued to impose and enforce strict bundling requirements through exorbitant minimum penetration rates – the minimum proportion of a distributor’s subscribers required to access a channel.” ©Disney This collapse came shortly after Disney had been working to create a sports streaming package with Warner Bros. Discovery and 20th Century Fox. However, Venu was blocked by a judge due to a likely violation of antitrust laws. For more Disney news, keep following DFB. Planning a Disney World trip during the Atlantic hurricane season can be a roll of the dice. Rain at Animal Kingdom Just last month, Hurricane Debby made its way across Florida, bringing major rain and wind to the Sunshine State. The National Hurricane Center has been monitoring two more potential disturbances in the Atlantic — and we’re sharing the latest updates you might need to know ahead of your next visit. As of the morning of Monday, September 2nd, the National Hurricane Center is tracking three “areas of interest” in the Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean Sea, and the Gulf of Mexico to determine the chances of each disturbance developing, WESH news reports. Tropical Storm Debby at Magic Kingdom A tropical wave in the Caribbean is hitting Puerto Rico and the surrounding areas with disorganized thunderstorms and gusty winds. As the storm reaches the western Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico later this week, a tropical depression could form. Formation chances are near 0% right now, but jump to 40% over the next seven days, which is considered “medium.” ©WESH A second low-pressure area is being tracked, this time in the Gulf of Mexico just off the coast of Texas. The National Hurricane Center expects the system to potentially develop if it stays offshore long enough — possibly moving inland on Tuesday. Heavy rains and flash flooding could be possible over the next few days. Right now, formation chances are sitting around 10%. ©WESH And, there is a third area of disturbance off the coast of Africa in the Atlantic that is producing thunderstorms and disorganized showers. A tropical depression could form over the next few days with the chances being low at 10% for now, and later increasing to 40% as the week continues. ©WESH As of right now, none of these storms are a direct threat to Disney World but we’ll be on the lookout for any major changes. If you’re visiting Disney World during a storm, don’t let the rain and wind put a damper on your day! Bring your rain gear, an extra pair of shoes, and a positive attitude as a rainy day at Disney World can be a fantastic day. Be patient with Cast Members and understand that some attractions may not be operating and certain entertainment offerings may also be canceled or modified. But there is still so much to do and you can often enjoy lower crowds during a rainy day at Disney World. What are you most looking forward to do on your trip to Disney World? Refillable Mug You’ve got so many options. Will you be riding all the rides you can? Are you just there for all the shows? Let’s be honest, you’re coming for all the food and drink, right? Speaking of drink, we’ve been noticing this collective demand coming from Disney fans about a refillable mug change at Disney World and we wanted to find out how you felt about it! Well, we asked and you delivered! We reached out to our followers on Facebook to ask: “Do you think Disney should allow refillable mugs to be used in the parks?” We had quite a few people leave their opinions in the comments! What do you think? Now, let’s dive into some of your responses! The “Yes” Team First up, a whopping 89% of you want to see a change that would allow you to use your refillable mugs at designated spots in the parks, and honestly, we’re totally here for it! Resort Refillable Mug To this point, DFB reader Eva, summed it up perfectly with, “Yes — even if only at quick-service locations that already have the self-serve fountains to start. It’s so cheap for Disney but will increase value for guests.” Pamela chimed with, “Yes, at designated locations, that would be awesome. Wouldn’t even need to be a huge selection.” T.j. added, “Yes when you are staying at their property, you are already spending a ton of money. It would be a small price to pay to keep people hydrated and made to feel like they matter.” Refillable Mug Then we’ve got Taylor, who added, “I think they should. I love going and getting my cup when I’m in universal. It’s so convenient.” Speaking of Universal, Lynn shared, “YES! I love the way Universal does it. I love the Freestyle machines everywhere (except Wizarding World). Most days we activate them. When we do a half day we bring them and just get ice & water.” In a same vein, Lori shared, “Absolutely even if it costs more. Other major parks like Cedar Point and Hershey have souvenir cups — pay a flat fee per day and unlimited refills but you can only refill once every hour or some timeframe like that. I’d like a format like that but payable upfront.” Drink Station at Drop Off Pool Bar Laura took it a step further, saying, “Good God, yes, Disney should allow Resort Refillable Mugs to be used in the parks. We used them at the water refill stations, especially at Animal Kingdom. We simply packed one mug in our Loungefly (I carried), then filled the mug with water and each took sips until it was empty. This is a perk Disney Parks could definitely afford. They are already making quite a bit of money on the mugs, why not let us use them in the parks. And the upshot for them is this — the more hydrated we are in the parks, the better we feel, so we stay longer and spend more money in the shops.” Those in the “No” As you can imagine, not everyone is thrilled about the idea of using your refillable mugs at designated spots in the parks (11% of you responded this way). Refillable Mug First up, DFB reader Heather shared, “I don’t really need a refillable mug for the parks – I prefer water to help stay hydrated. I like the refills at the resort, so I can get caffeine in the morning and then something with flavor if I go back for a mid-day break as well as when I get back at night.” Karen raised concerns about hygiene, saying, “No! Having everyone’s germy cup at the soda fountains is gross in the first place… maybe if they gave it out in a paper cup, but at the end of the day seems like it’s just going to make park tickets even more expensive.” Drink Station at Caribbean Beach Resort’s Banana Cabana Pool Bar Then to wrap things up, some, like Christa, simply prefer to “bring your own water bottle,” while others, like Rita, would rather Disney focus on bringing back FastPass than adding another thing to carry around the parks. Refillable Resort Mugs Those were just some of your thoughts on whether Disney should allow refillable mugs to be used in the parks, and we want to hear more from you!
