  1. Spring at EPCOT is iconic. The sun is shining, the topiaries are in full bloom, and the Flower & Garden Festival is in full swing. Moana, Maui, HeiHei, and Pua Topiaries But there’s one tiny problem that could potentially throw a wrench in your perfect festival day… and it’s not the crowds or hitting the balance of your Disney gift card. Planning a Disney World vacation? Let our friends over at Small World Vacations help you make it as magical as can be! So what’s the potential problem? Well, we have one word for you: pollen. Lady and the Tramp Topiaries Yup, while the EPCOT Flower & Garden Festival is basically a botanical dream come true, for anyone with seasonal allergies, it’s also a floral battlefield. All those gorgeous topiaries and bright blooms? They’re basically launching a full-scale attack on your sinuses. One minute, you’re snapping a picture of that stunning Figment topiary, and the next, you’re sneezing so hard you nearly drop your Toasted Pretzel Bread. Figment Topiaries So, what’s the solution? First things first — don’t forget to take your allergy medicine before you hit the park! Pop that antihistamine like you’re securing a last-minute Lightning Lane for Frozen Ever After. Trust us, your nose will thank you. Also, keep some tissues handy. You never know when a sneeze will creep up and surprise you. Phineas and Ferb Topiaries And if you start feeling the pollen overload mid-day, duck into one of EPCOT’s indoor pavilions (like The Land or the Seas) to give your sinuses a much-needed break. Another great place to sneak away and deal with the sniffles is the restrooms. Our top picks for a quick escape? The bathrooms inside the American Adventure Pavilion, the ones tucked behind Journey into Imagination with Figment, and the halfway point restrooms at Journey of Water — perfect for a little extra privacy! Imagination Pavilion Now we’re not saying you need to gear up like you’re heading into a pollen storm, but a little preparation can go a long way in keeping the sneezes at bay. So pack your allergy meds, grab some tissues, and get ready to smell the roses (without the sniffles). EPCOT’s Flower and Garden Festival is in full bloom from now until June 2, 2025, so be prepared to enjoy all the flowers and all the flavors! 3. Okay, so we have our favorite Disney World restaurants, and we often talk about them. We’ll forever sing the praises of Homecomin‘ and Wine Bar George, and we’ll tell you how underrated we think Skipper Canteen and eet by Maneet Chauhan are if you ask. Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground closed for Hurricane Milton However, we also let you know when a restaurant just isn’t…well, all that. Now, we’ve had some disappointing meals in Disney World before, but what we just had recently left us feeling outright upset. So we’re going to warn you about this restaurant so you don’t make the mistake we made by eating there. This most recent dining “experience” took us to Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground. We stopped by the Meadow Snack Bar, which is a quick-service spot at the Meadow Swimmin’ Pool. Meadow Snack Bar The menu here is pretty simple with hotdogs, salads, sandwiches, and snacks, but we picked up a meal that sounded promising, the Chicken Sandwich with Blueberry Barbecue Sauce and Kale Slaw for $11.79. It’s served with chips. First up, the blueberry was non-existent for us — we couldn’t taste it AT ALL. But that’s not all we didn’t taste. This chicken was BLAND and lacked any kind of seasoning. Also, the sandwich was served COLD? Chicken Sandwich The kale was fresh and crunchy, but again, there was just no flavor to this sandwich at all. And that made us sad because there was a huge potential with that blueberry barbecue sauce — it should’ve had a whole sweet and savory thing going on. Anyway, to quote our reporter, “It was very disappointing, and I was upset.” It was disappointing Okay, so that’s strike one against this snack spot. However, we had better luck with the Banana Pudding for $5.79. It’s tasty, and although we were concerned it was pre-packaged, it tasted homemade. There were layers of soggy vanilla wafers (soggy in that good way you like in a banana pudding, though) and whipped cream. Banana pudding It tasted fresh and was really good. However, we wouldn’t make the trek out to Fort Wilderness just to get it. But if you find yourself here, that’s a solid bet (just skip the sandwich). Stay tuned to DFB for more reviews. 4. Disney World has it all. DOLE Whip. Baby tigers. Roller coasters. Oh, and some of the sweetest manatees you have ever seen. If you’re a sucker for gentle giants like us, prepare to say, “AWWWW.” We see a manatee; we fall in love Disney just announced that a NEW addition has joined The Seas with Nemo and Friends in EPCOT. OK, so see that manatee pictured above? Notice the tail? That’s what a manatee’s tail should look like. But the sweet new friend that just arrived in EPCOT? Well, her tail is a little different. Her name is Mermaid, and you’ll soon see why. A new manatee named Mermaid just arrived at Seas Pavilion on March 19th. During our visit, we spoke to a Cast Member who told us all about our new manatee friend. Mermaid was rescued north of Tampa from the Homosassa River last month. She was found in an “emaciated state,” so it’s up to Disney’s team to rehabilitate her over the next few months. Mermaid’s tail was injured If you look closely, you’ll notice that Mermaid’s tail is split. A Cast Member told us this was likely cut due to contact with a boat propeller (but it’s hard to be certain what happened!). Via @drmarkatdisney Over on Instagram, one of Disney’s animal care experts, @drmarkatdisney, shared a little more information about Mermaid. She weighs approximately 525 pounds, but like we said, she needs to gain weight and strength before she is released to the wild. Dr. Mark said, “This partnership and the care Mermaid will receive at The Seas is the next stop on her journey as she prepares for her eventual return to the wild.” Eat ALL the lettuce! In the past, you may have met some other manatees in EPCOT, including Lil Joe and Inigo! Earlier this year, they were relocated to the Gulfarium in the Destin-Fort Walton Beach area. Lil Joe and Inigo Disney is constantly working with experts to address the manatee crisis in Florida. Thanks to habitat loss, the effects of red tide, and watercraft accidents, manatees face a variety of threats in the wild, and hundreds are dying due to these challenges. In fact, manatees are federally protected under the Endangered Species Act. Protect these gentle giants! PLEASE go visit the manatees in EPCOT — they are so fun to watch, and the Cast Members are super knowledgable! And if you see Mermaid, tell her Disney Food Blog said hi! We love her. In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more. 5. There is almost always something going on with The Walt Disney Company! ©The Walt Disney Company Right now they are working on Disneyland’s 70th anniversary celebrations, major overhauls at Magic Kingdom, and more! It can be a lot to keep to keep up with so we’re doing a round-up of the 3 biggest new stories from this week right here. When it comes to Disney news, some weeks are bigger than others! This week falls into that “big week” category! Disney’s most recent Shareholder Meeting was March 20th, 2025 and it brought up two of the most exciting updates this week. The first is the major announcement that Coco 2 is finally in the works! ©Disney Disney didn’t release any of the plot details but they did confirm that the first movie’s team will be reunited including director Lee Unkrich and co-director Adrian Molina with Mark Nielsen producing. Initially, Disney shared that the movie wouldn’t be released until 2029, however, that language has since been removed from all press releases and posts. ©Disney Disney also has plans for a Coco attraction in Disney California Adventure and they included a Coco restaurant on the brand-new Disney Cruise Line ship, the Disney Treasure. While we do think the new ride will open before the movie comes out, we’re hoping we’ll get more movie news sooner rather than later! Read everything we know about Coco 2 here! The second major announcement to come out of the shareholder meeting was we finally got a new sneak peek at the new Lion King attraction! ©Disney This new attraction is coming to Disneyland Paris and is expected to open in 2026! The attraction was first announced at D23 in 2024. We got a glimpse at the model for the ride during the meeting and it has us pretty excited. The ride will take guests on Simba’s journey from the film going from lion cub to king! ©Disney The ride seems to be a long flume ride similar to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and Splash Mountain but Disney has yet to officially confirm. We’re eager to see how this attraction comes to life before it opens next year. Learn more about the new attraction! Finally, this week we said goodbye to It’s Tough To Be A Bug In Disney World. This show took place inside the Tree of Life at Animal Kingdom and was an opening-day attraction. Bye, Flik! The show was inspired by the film Bug’s Life and it followed Flik and his bug friends as they taught us just how hard it is to be a bug. The show was closed to make way for the brand new show called Zootopia: Better Zoogether. The show will follow Nick Wilde and Juddy Hopps as they take you through different biomes seen in the film Zootopia! ©Disney Disney already has removed the signage for It’s Tough To Be A Bug, taken the show off the Animal Kingdom park map, and filed permits for changes to the theater. While we’re excited about the change, we will mourn Flik and his friends! Learn more about Zootopia: Better Zoogether here! We also want to give a small shoutout to the Figment news from this week as well. During the shareholder meeting, Disney CEO Bob Iger shared that he is asking creative teams at Disney for more short form content of EPCOT’s purple dragon which we think is hilarious and exciting. As always, don’t forget to keep following DisneyFoodBlog for more Disney news and updates. 3 Important Announcements Were MISSING from Disney’s BIG News Drop Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! 6. Okay, some Disney snacks are just CLASSICS and you have to get them every single trip. We’re talking about those salty Mickey Pretzels (yes, with plastic CHHHHEEEESEEE) and Corn Dug Nuggets (aka Mini Corn Dogs) from Casey’s Corner in Magic Kingdom. Mickey Pretzel However, the most ICONIC classic Disney World snack just might be the Pineapple DOLE Whip. Now, you can pick up DOLE Whip in several spots throughout Disney World, but now you can get DOLE Whip at an unexpected spot: at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort. Yep, DOLE Whip is officially available at Disney’s All-Star Resorts! So here’s the deal. We keep an eye out for menu changes in Disney World and noticed a menu update for World Premiere Food Court at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort. We learned that Soft-serve Cups or Cones were now available at the food court, with flavor choices being Vanilla, Chocolate, Vanilla/Chocolate Swirl, Pineapple, and Vanilla/Pineapple Swirl. Yes, PINEAPPLE. So we had to investigate. World Premiere Food Court Well, there it was on the menu: Soft-Serve in a Cup, with pineapple as one option. Now, that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s DOLE Whip, right? Menu at World Premiere Food Court So we asked a Cast Member, who confirmed that YES, the Pineapple Soft-Serve is Dole Whip, meaning you can now grab a Dole Whip from the comfort of your own hotel if you’re staying at All-Star Movies. How COOL (literally) is that? So there’s yet ANOTHER spot outside of Magic Kingdom where you can grab a Dole Whip. SCORE. Note that you can also get it as a swirl with vanilla, which also sounds YUM. DOLE Whip! Stay tuned to DFB for more. WE KNOW – there are SO many great snacks at Disney World! How do you choose (we don’t want to choose but will blow our budget on Day 1 otherwise)? 7. Whew — it’s a lot keeping up with all the changes in Disney World these days. We’ve got entire lands closing to make way for new lands, rides getting re-themes, the Muppets taking over a roller coaster and the land we’ve all dreamed of — Villains Land — is finally on the way. Swan and Dolphin Something big is changing over at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin, too. As we previously confirmed, the Picabu dining spot has permanently closed to make way for something new — a gaming room called Lagoon Games, Lanes & Eats. Now we’re going to break down everything we know about this new gaming space. Like we said, the new gaming space is called Lagoon Games, Lanes & Eats. As the name suggests, this will be a gaming room with a ton of arcade games. This will include interactive gaming, as well as “thrilling new releases to timeless classics” (okay, we need Galaga and Pac-Man!). The Swan and Dolphin promises “a dynamic, immersive experience for all ages.” We also have concept art of the new space, which features some areas to lounge on couches, as well as a slew of arcade machines and an air hockey table. We also spot a claw machine (although we doubt there are little green aliens in there to capture). You can also see some racing games in the art. ©Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin However, what makes this space even MORE unique is that it will also have some mini bowling lanes. The concept art includes four lanes. ©Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin But that’s not all because, most importantly, you’ll be able to grab some eats here, too. Lagoon’s “exclusive dining space” will offer food and drinks with a menu “designed to satisfy every palate.” There will also be gourmet snacks, as well as “mouthwatering meals.” An overview of the space shows just where everything will be located. The entrance to the space will open up into an arcade — when you walk through that, you’ll then be in a larger arcade with the bowling lanes. It doesn’t look like there will be a lot of seating inside, though, just the couches we previously mentioned. ©Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin We don’t have an opening date for Lagoon Games, but we’ll be keeping an eye out for it and will let you know, so stay tuned to DFB for more. 10. Universal Orlando has changed a LOT over the years, but do you know who actually owns it? Universal Orlando While it might not be as complicated as Disney’s web of acquisitions, Universal Orlando has gone through some ownership shifts since it first opened in 1990. It started as a joint venture, but today, there’s only one company in charge. Let’s break down the history of ownership and who’s calling the shots now! Universal Orlando’s Early Days Universal Orlando Resort, which began as Universal Studios Florida, was originally a partnership. When the park first opened in 1990, it was owned by MCA Universal (the predecessor to NBCUniversal) and The Blackstone Group (a private equity firm). And then, Blackstone bought a 50% stake in Universal Orlando in 2000, which helped fund the expansion that turned it into the full-fledged resort it is today. ©Orlando Informer This partnership was key in transforming Universal Orlando into a true competitor to Disney World, adding Islands of Adventure in 1999 and later CityWalk. But like any good theme park story, there was a plot twist coming. NBCUniversal Takes Full Control In early 2011, NBCUniversal made a big move – they acquired Blackstone’s entire 50% stake for approximately $1.025 billion. That meant NBCUniversal became the sole owner of Universal Orlando Resort, giving them full control over decisions, expansions, and future attractions. ©Comcast Since then, NBCUniversal has poured money into the parks, leading to major expansions like The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Volcano Bay, and the upcoming Epic Universe. Without an external partner like Blackstone, NBCUniversal has had the flexibility to invest heavily in growing the resort into what it is today. What Does This Mean for Universal Orlando? Universal Orlando is now 100% owned by NBCUniversal, which itself is a subsidiary of Comcast. So, while you won’t see a Comcast logo at the front gates, they are the ones ultimately funding and overseeing the resort’s growth. Universal Studios Florida This direct ownership has allowed Universal to aggressively expand and compete with Disney, with new attractions and hotels opening regularly. It also means that Universal Orlando is a critical piece of Comcast’s overall business strategy, making it more than just a theme park – it’s a major player in the entertainment industry. Stella Nova Resort So, next time you’re riding VelociCoaster or sipping Butterbeer in Hogsmeade, just know that Universal Orlando is entirely under the NBCUniversal umbrella. And with Epic Universe almost open to the public, you can tell they’re not going to be slowing down anytime soon! Make sure you keep checking back in for the latest Universal Orlando news! 11. One of the biggest complaints we see from Disney adults is the lack of nightlife in Disney World. Jellyrolls There are only a few spots open late enough to be actually considered as nightlife, and it seems that late night entertainment options continue to disappear from the resort. Well, Disney World will soon be down one MORE nighttime entertainment spot: Jellyrolls on Disney’s BoardWalk will soon close its doors forever. However, before those doors close, the dueling piano bar is going to offer the PARTY of a lifetime. Jellyrolls will close its doors forever on April 20th, but on April 19th, you can attend the bar’s final farewell performance. Doors will open at 6 PM and the dueling pianos will start at 6:15 PM. Admission is $22 per person (and remember, you must be 21 or older to enter). No reservations will be accepted, so it’s first-come first-serve. Jellyrolls All current Jellyrolls players will be performing throughout the night, so here’s a chance to catch your favorites one last time. At the end of the evening, you’ll get the opportunity to chat with the performers and Jellyrolls crew. Jellyrolls Keep in mind that the idea is that this is a night of celebration and not closing. Jellyrolls General Manager Amber Antel said, “It’s been a great run at the Boardwalk for almost 30 years and we are so excited to share our farewell performance with our fantastic guests! We are looking forward to welcoming the next chapter of Jellyrolls in a new central Florida location!” Jellyrolls also hopes to welcome a new chapter in a new Central Florida location, so it might be gone from Disney World, but it isn’t gone for good. Jellyrolls So if you enjoyed Jellyrolls as a nighttime entertainment option in Disney World, be sure to stop by on April 19th to say goodbye and enjoy one final hurrah. Stay tuned to DFB for more. 12. The 2025 EPCOT Flower & Garden Festival has kicked off! 2025 EPCOT Flower and Garden Festival The festival runs March 5th through June 2nd this year and if you are planning on trying some of the delicious food from the outdoor kitchens, you’ll want to listen up, especially if you will have the Disney Dining Plan. Did you know that you can use snack credits from the DDP at some of the festival booths? That’s right. There are select menu items that will count towards your snack credit allotment. Of course, you’ll want to make sure it is a good value to use a credit instead of purchasing the item. We’re telling you the top snacks to use your credits on at this year’s festival! EPCOT Flower & Garden Festival First up, over in Mexico at the Jardin de Fiestas booth, you’ll find one of the pricier items at the festival for $11.50. The “Giant” Tostada de Carn is made with Oaxacan tostada, barbacoa beef, guacamole, jícama, pumpkin seeds, and salsa macha. The giant tostada is covered in barbacoa beef-style meat, but to us, the meat kind of tastes more like a pot roast. This thing is seriously huge and the price is gonna reflect that. You might gawk at the price at first, but it really is just that big — and good! It’s the perfect way to get a lot out of that snack credit. Giant Tostada de Carne Over at Lan Yuan, you can grab the House-made Cheesy Crab Wontons for a snack credit. These would cost $9.75 without using the credit so it is on the higher end. These are fried wontons filled with cream cheese, celery, and imitation crab. The wontons are also drizzled with plum-chili sauce. We look forward to this Festival favorite dish each year. It is plentiful with the cheese tucked into a crispy, golden wonton wrapper, but for only 3 wontons, it is worth just using a snack credit on. Cheesy Crab Wontons Next, over at Refreshment Port, you can grab the Provence Poutine for $9. If spending $9 on fries seems ridiculous to you, you can grab these with a snack credit. The base of the French fries is seasoned with Herbes de Provence, and the batch is topped with goat brie, lavender honey, hazelnut croquant, and fresh lavender! It is both an interesting and unique option. This dish is also on our personal Best of the Fest list! Provence Poutine For $8.75, you can buy the Primavera Cacio Pepe e Gamberi at Primavera Kitchen. If you want to try this dish, we suggest a dining credit for it, however, we found this underwhelming. It needed more sauce and we thought it was just ok. Primavera Cacio Pepe e Gamberi At Beach Grub, you can grab the Seafood Bake. It is a snack credit and it is packed with shrimp, mussels, clams, andouille sausage, red potatoes, corn on the cob, persillade butter, and a white wine broth… Oh, and it comes with grilled sourdough, too! You will get a good value for your credit here! Seafood Bake The Gnocchis Provencal at Fleur de Lys is $8.95 so it is a higher priced item. The dish is made with pulled duck confit in a rosemary sauce. While this dish may not look the most appetizing, we were amazed by how much we enjoyed it. There is lots of gravy flavor with chunky mushrooms. Gnocchis Provencal At Hanami, there are two snack credit items found here for $8.50 each. The Ramen Cup is a ramen salad shaken in a cup with fresh vegetables, grilled chicken, and dashi broth with chili oil and yuzu. Ramen Cup The Steam Bun was new last year, but is back for 2025. It’s filled with vegetables and plant-based soy meat. The Steam Bun is filled with veggies and plant-based soy meat. If that sounds tasty, use a snack credit on it! 2024 Steam Bun Our biggest tip for using dining credits while at the festival is to do your research first to see what is a good price and what you’ll actually enjoy eating. 14. Hold on to your Mickey ears, because there are some BIG roller coaster changes are coming to Disney World! Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Disney has officially confirmed major updates to three coasters across the parks, and these changes are going to shake things up in a BIG way. From a brand-new Monsters, Inc. ride to a total reimagining of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, and even some major updates to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, there’s a lot to be excited about. Let’s get into the details! The Monsters, Inc. Suspended Coaster Is Coming to Hollywood Studios Ever since Disney announced the new Monsters, Inc. land at D23, we’ve been eagerly waiting for details about the land’s flagship ride. And now, we’ve got them! D23 The all-new Monstropolis area will feature Disney’s first-ever suspended coaster. Remember how in Monsters, Inc. the doors are grabbed by giant claws and carried through the factory? Well, imagine hopping onto one of those doors and zipping around Monstropolis yourself—because that’s exactly what Disney is making happen! ©Disney In a new sneak peek video, Disney showed off renderings of the ride, revealing how the coaster will literally lift off the ground, eliminating the need for a traditional vertical lift hill. This means a smoother, more immersive ride experience that’s totally different from anything else Disney has done before. ©Disney We’ve been waiting for over 20 years for this ride to become a reality, and it’s finally happening. We can’t wait to step into the factory and experience Monstropolis firsthand! Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Is Getting a HUGE Overhaul If you’ve visited Magic Kingdom recently, you might’ve noticed that Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is closed. And unfortunately, it’s going to stay that way for a while—at least until 2026. But when it reopens, it’ll be a whole new ride. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is currently closed Disney has confirmed that Big Thunder is getting “a little bit of new magic,” which likely means some serious upgrades. We already know the track is being completely replaced, which means a smoother ride. Disney even filed a permit with a steel company that specializes in coaster construction, hinting at some big structural changes. Track work Beyond the track, we’re also expecting new effects. If you’ve been on Disneyland’s version of Big Thunder, you’ve seen the amazing projection effects in the final lift hill scene. Could those be coming to Disney World? We sure hope so! Big Thunder Mountain at Disneyland But the biggest change might not even be on the ride itself—it’s what you’ll see from it. Frontierland is transforming, with the Cars-themed area replacing Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island, and a brand-new Villains land going in behind Big Thunder. That means when you ride the coaster, you might get a sneak peek at these new lands. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Is Saying Goodbye to Aerosmith It’s official: Aerosmith is out, and the Muppets are moving in! Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is being completely reimagined with a Muppets theme, and while we don’t have all the details yet, we do know it’s going to be a rockin’ good time. ©Disney Disney just filed a permit to repaint the massive guitar outside the attraction, which could hint at a new color scheme or design. Concept art suggests that the super-stretch limo could also get a new paint job to fit the Muppets theme. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster As for the ride itself, Disney has promised new music, new characters, and a brand-new storyline. The Muppets will be teaming up with some of “music’s biggest stars” for a high-energy rock festival, which sounds like the kind of chaotic fun only the Muppets can bring. ©Disney And yes, you can bet there will be plenty of Muppets-themed merch! The Rock Around the Shop gift shop is expected to get a full makeover, so get ready for some new Kermit and Miss Piggy gear. Bonus: A Villains Coaster Might Be Coming to Magic Kingdom While Disney hasn’t officially announced a Villains coaster, they have confirmed that Villains Land is in the works for Magic Kingdom. And looking at the concept art, it sure looks like there might be not one, but TWO roller coasters in this land. Villains Land Concept Art ©Disney One section of the art shows a track winding through a cavern-like space, while another section features a thorn-covered ride track that looks like it could belong to Maleficent. ©Disney Could these be two separate coasters? It’s definitely possible. Either way, Villains Land is shaping up to be one of the most exciting additions to Magic Kingdom in years. ©Disney Disney is going all in on coaster updates, and we’re here for it. Between the Monsters, Inc. suspended coaster, a smoother and upgraded Big Thunder Mountain, and the Muppets takeover at Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, there’s a lot to look forward to. And if the rumors about a Villains coaster turn out to be true, things are about to get even more exciting. In the meantime, stay tuned to DFB for all the latest from Disney. The reservations open at 6 AM Eastern, so you will want to be ready to go to your computer at 5:30 AM. This will allow you time to get everything set up ahead of time — you know, in case your laptop is dead and you can’t find the charger, or your router needs a reboot. Be Our Guest Restaurant Bring Out All Of Your Devices You’ll want to use your computer as well as your phone. On your laptop, open at least 2 incognito browser windows and log into your MyDisney account. You will want to go DIRECTLY to the restaurant page and start refreshing at least every 2 minutes once it turns 6 AM. But, don’t neglect the app on your phone, sometimes the mobile app has a different advantage. If you have someone else you can delegate to do one of those, we suggest that — strength in numbers. Le Cellier Party Size Varies We suggest starting with your desired party size — but don’t be afraid to check for a variation of party sizes! If we need a reservation for 2, sometimes those aren’t available, but a reservation for 3 might be. Shifting up one party number might make the difference in securing that table! If you’re looking for parties larger than 6, you’ll likely have to book those in smaller parties. You can have someone else in your travel group help you book these so you can make multiple ADRs to include everyone. Now that will mean you won’t be seated together. You can ask the host when you check-in about being seated together, but there’s no guarantee this will happen. This will help you get into that hard-to-get restaurant with a larger group — but if you must sit together, this isn’t the trick for you. Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’ Don’t Give Up If you aren’t able to grab that reservation you really wanted, don’t give up yet. Keep checking back as you get closer to your trip. People cancel plans and availability shifts pretty regularly. Also, don’t underestimate looking the day of for a reservation. Disney allows for cancellations up to 2 hours before the reservation and things may become available. Mickey at Chef Mickey’s For more of our Disney World tips, be sure to follow us at DFB! 17. We’re not lying when we say that Disneyland snacks just go HARD. Some of our favorite snacks can be found at Disney’s West Coast resort. From churro toffee to those fabulous churros to an amazing corn dog, when we get a chance to snack around Disneyland, we’re going to take it. Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe Well, one of our FAVORITE quick-service spots in Disneyland, Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe, has been closed for a little while. But Jolly Holiday just reopened with three NEW snacks, so we RAN to this spot on Main Street, U.S.A., to check them out — and what can we say? These snacks are #1! So we often visit Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe for the infamous Matterhorn Macaroon, as well as that Toasted Cheese Sandwich (SO GOOD, y’all). But these three new treats are getting added to our “must eat” list for that location, too. Let’s start with the Donald Macaron, a macaron (as opposed to a macarOON) filled with Cherry Buttercream and Vanilla Bean Crème for $8.29. Much like the duck himself, this macaron is #1 (NOW, you get all our #1 references, right?). It’s SO cute, done up in Donald’s outfit colors, complete with his little hat and bowtie. Donald Macaron This macaron, which is served chilled, has a lovely flaky and crunchy texture. The shell is vanilla, although the blue part was white chocolate or maybe fondant. The cherry buttercream, though, is the star of this snack — it offers a tart dark cherry flavor. The flavors are fresh and the snack is fun — this one is a must for anyone who loves sweet treats and Donald! It’s #1! We also got the new Pineapple Bundt Cake with Brown Sugar Crunch, topped with Pineapple Mousse, and finished with a Cherry for $6.79. This is a new favorite dessert here. It’s got a nice tart flavor, but it’s balanced out by the sugary glaze on top. The cake is moist and has little chunks of pineapple in it. Pineapple Bundt Cake There wasn’t a lot of the mousse, but it offered a denser texture. This one is a must for those who love pineapple flavors — it’s fresh and tastes like REAL pineapple rather than something with artificial fruit flavoring. SO fresh Finally, we grabbed the Strawberry-stuffed Croissant with Strawberries, Pastry Cream, Strawberry Coulis and Powdered Sugar for $8.29. Y’all. This one is ALSO a winner. You get a lovely buttery croissant that’s extra sugary, thanks to the powdered sugar on top. Inside are some sweet strawberries with a creamy vanilla flavor from the pastry cream. Strawberry Stuffed Croissant The coulis also has a nice light strawberry flavor. This tastes like spring. It’s sweet and fresh and a MUST if you like strawberries. Wonderful strawberry flavor Overall, Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe has delivered on the snacks AGAIN, so you can guarantee we’ll be back to indulge our sweet tooth. WE KNOW – there are SO many great snacks at Disney World! How do you choose (we don’t want to choose but will blow our budget on Day 1 otherwise)? We’ve got you covered! 18. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Magic Kingdom has been closed since January and isn’t expected to open until sometime in 2026, and we’re having withdrawals. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Luckily, some of our amazing Disney Food Blog reporters got new pictures of the construction at Big Thunder, so we can analyze every detail while we wait for it to reopen. Disney added some tables and chairs with umbrellas around the area, which is great if you want to sit and eat a snack while staring at the construction, like us. Since there’s no roller coaster going on, it’s fairly quiet and is a nice little hideaway. A great stop to cool off We also noticed a lot of tarps. We can’t quite tell what they’re covering, but there seems to be work happening underneath. SO many tarps It also looks like the track is getting some major work! We’re not expecting it to be perfectly smooth like Seven Dwarfs Mine Train (come on, the fun of Big Thunder is how rough it is!), but we’re hoping the track is a little smoother on turns and drops. Track work In certain places, it looks like they completely gutted the track. Yes, that is a piece of wood that says “hole” on it. Safety first! Taking out the track! We can’t see inside the caves, but we’re hoping they’re getting added projection work like Disneyland’s Big Thunder Mountain. It’s a great way to combine modern technology with a classic ride and gives you another reason to want to ride the wildest ride in the wilderness. Disney says when the ride reopens, it will be “with a little bit of new magic.” Big Thunder While not confirmed, there’s speculation that some of the changes happening behind Big Thunder Mountain could be preparing for the new Villain’s Land being added to Magic Kingdom. We won’t be sure until Disney confirms it, but we are very excited about the new land. Very few details have been released, but it’s likely to take a few years for it to be finished, so we aren’t expecting any major construction any time soon. More work to be done! We’re going to watch ride-through videos to make it feel like we’re back on the train, but in the meantime, make sure you’re following the Disney Food Blog to stay up to date on everything Disney. 19. If you are ready for an adventurous day at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, read this first! Hollywood Studios There are so many thrilling rides waiting for you at this park, and you’re sure to have a fun filled day here. There are some secret tips for these rides that we wanted to share with you! We’re breaking down all of the rides that you’ll want to request back row for at Hollywood Studios and why. If you’re more prone to motion sickness and you’re about to ride Millennium Falcon Smugglers Run, you’ll want to ask for the back section. These are the Engineer Positions and they will distance you away from the screen — PLUS your role doesn’t require you to be looking at the screen at all times. Just press your button when you see it light up! Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run If you want a more intense experience on Rock n Roller Coaster, ask the CM for the back row. The high-speed launch and upside-down track are thrilling no matter WHERE you’re seated, but the G-force is even more intense when you’re in the last row. So, thrill seekers, that means you! Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster If you want a better view while riding Slinky Dog Dash, you’ll want the back. The front row is still fun and all, but a lot of your view is gonna be blocked by Slinky’s giant head — sorry Slink. However, if you’re more toward his end, you’ll be able to see much more of the colorful toys down below! Slinky Dog Dash If you want the whole view of Star Tours and Tower of Terror, the back is where it’s at! It’s like going to the movies. If you sit closer to the screen, you don’t get the full picture. But if you sit further back, you’ll be able to see more. Hollywood Tower Hotel If you’re heading to Hollywood Studios on your next Disney trip, you’ll want to check out our Hollywood Vintage Stamps shirt. It features some of your favorite rides in a unique way. It comes in 9 different colors so if you want your travel party to match, it’s a great choice! 22. We have some important Disney World food news to share with you! A Disney World hotel restaurant is closing this week for refurbishment. Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort We don’t want you to be excited to dine on the restaurant’s Buttery Pull-apart Rolls, Baked Fish, or House-made Coconut-Pineapple Bread Pudding only to find out that it is currently closed! We have all the details you need to know. Sebastian’s Bistro at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort will be temporarily closing for refurbishment this week! The good news is that we will only be without Sebastian’s Bistro for a few days. Sebastian’s Bistro The restaurant will be closed beginning March 24th but is expected to reopen at the end of March. The other good news is that there are also other options at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, or you can choose from one of the restaurants anywhere on Disney World property for your meal! Magic Kingdom Playground at Dumbo the Flying Elephant The indoor children’s playground inside the Dumbo the Flying Elephant queue closed for refurbishment on February 24th, 2025. While the playground will be closed, the ride will still be open and available for kids of all ages to soar through the sky! Dumbo the Flying Elephant The indoor playground is expected to reopen in Spring 2025. Hall of Presidents The Hall of Presidents closed at Magic Kingdom on January 20th. Hall of Presidents The attraction will be closed until later in 2025, though Disney has not shared a specific date. We will keep an eye out for updates, though! The closure is likely to change the current president, as January 20th marked Inauguration Day. While it is closed, other maintenance and routine work may also be happening. Astro Orbiter If you want to blast off into space, you’ll have to head over to Space Mountain because Astro Orbiter will be temporarily closed for refurbishment! Astro Orbiter Astro Orbiter closed as of January 13th and is planned to reopen in the summer of 2025. No specific date has been announced for the high-in-the-sky ride, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled for an update from Disney. The ride has currently been completely dismantled and is being refurbished elsewhere. It definitely looks a little barren as you are walking into Tomorrowland right now! Rope Drop In Magic Kingdom Has CHANGED Big Thunder Mountain Railroad We’ve been anticipating this ride closure for a while now, and on January 6th, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad closed for an extended temporary closure. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is closed The “Wildest Ride in the Wilderness” will be closed for at least a year and will reopen sometime in 2026. The ride will be undergoing maintenance while it is closed. When it reopens, it will have some “new magic,” according to Disney. We can’t wait to see what changes will be coming to this ever-popular roller coaster! Tomorrowland Terrace Tomorrowland Terrace is a quick-service restaurant that has been closed since the 2020 pandemic-related closures, but even before that, this spot was only occasionally open. Tomorrowland Terrace Once in a while, you’ll see the dining room open as a rest area (and it’s still being used for the Magic Kingdom Fireworks Dessert Parties), but it’s usually all roped off and empty. Disney hasn’t announced when this spot could finally reopen, but we’ll be watching for updates. If you’re looking for a nice spot to hang out in Disney World and take a rest, this could be it! Tortuga Tavern Just like Tomorrowland Terrace, Tortuga Tavern is also a seasonal restaurant in Magic Kingdom. It has been a bit since we have seen it open. Most recently, it was used as a cookie location for Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. Tortuga Tavern We had previously spotted shrubs around the restaurant as they worked on the flooring. However, all the shrubs have been taken down now. We don’t know exactly when/if this restaurant will reopen, but we will keep you updated if we learn more! NEW Details Revealed: A Long-Abandoned Magic Kingdom Land Is Set for a Major Overhaul EPCOT Test Track Test Track closed on June 17th, and Disney is giving this ride a BIG makeover! Test Track is currently closed Disney has shared that the new version of Test Track will take inspiration from the old ride, World of Motion, that was originally there when the park opened in 1982. Disney shared more details at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Experience, and an updated opening timeline was just announced! We’ll be able to ride Test Track once again in late summer 2025. Restaurant Marrakesh Restaurant Marrakesh is currently closed as a dining location in the Morocco pavilion of EPCOT’s World Showcase, and there’s no word yet on when the restaurant could fully reopen. Restaurant Marrakesh Occasionally, we’ll see it open as a lounge or Kidcot Fun Stop. So, if you’re in the Morocco Pavilion, check it out to see if it’s open. We’re watching for updates on when the full restaurant could reopen! It Just Got CHEAPER to Eat at This Iconic EPCOT Restaurant, and I’m as Surprised as You Are Hollywood Studios Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy The Cars-themed show featuring Lighting McQueen permanently closed on October 8th, 2024, to make way for a brand-new Villains show. Sunset Showcase The Cars show was previously housed in the Sunset Showcase building, but the last day for guests to enjoy it was October 7th. The new Villains show is supposed to debut in the summer of 2025. We’re always watching for more details about the new show, and we recently spotted a casting call for Cruella de Vil, Captain Hook, and Maleficent! Voyage of the Little Mermaid Voyage of the Little Mermaid is currently closed in Disney World. A bit ago we spotted that the iconic Voyage of the Little Mermaid marquee has been removed! So far, it is still missing, but we are curious what, if anything, will take its place. Disney is going to introduce a new, updated show in this spot, though it will still be themed to the animated movie The Little Mermaid! The new show will be called “The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure,” and it is now coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Summer 2025. Voyage of the Little Mermaid Disney still hasn’t announced an official opening date for the new show, but it has been postponed from its Fall 2024 opening timeline. It will be a “fully reimagined theatrical production inspired by the Walt Disney Animation Studios classic.” REVIEW: There’s a Reason Why This Hollywood Studios Restaurant Isn’t Easy To Get Into Animal Kingdom It’s Tough to Be a Bug It’s Tough to Be a Bug is officially closed for good. TriceraTop Spin, Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures, and Fossil Fun Games The first round of closures began in DinoLand U.S.A. on January 13th, 2025. TriceraTop Spin, Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures, and Fossil Fun Game were closed down, and construction has begun on the brand-new land themed to the Tropical Americas, Pueblo Esperanza. The walls have been up since the closure, and things have been disappearing from behind the walls. Almost everything has been taken down behind the walls, including the large green dinosaur. DinoLand, U.S.A. It is definitely a sad sight, but we are also excited to see Pueblo Esperanza! DINOSAUR, Restaurantosaurus, the snack stands, and The Boneyard remain open. Disney hasn’t announced an official closing date for the rest of DinoLand. Everything POP Shopping & Dining — Disney’s Pop Century Resort The Everything Pop Food Court still remains on Disney World’s refurbishment list. However, the area looks open except for one food window! Since July 29th, Everything Pop has been getting some work done. The refurbishment was supposed to end on September 29th. However, it was extended to being under refurbishment until April 2025. Currently, it is still under refurbishment, but the full food court and dining area are available; guests just might see or hear construction work being done. Pop Century is looking great! When we stopped by a few weeks back, it looked like all the walls were down. A Cast Member said the food court and gift shop are pretty much done, but some behind-the-scenes work is still being done. The only thing we noticed was one food window still closed off. Merchandise Locations — Disney’s BoardWalk The merchandise locations along Disney’s BoardWalk will be closing for refurbishment in phases. The closures will last until May 2025, but two merchandise locations will always be available during the refurbishment. Disney’s BoardWalk The Character Carnival is currently closed. 24. Okay, it’s no secret that there is some GOOD EATING in Disney Springs. That probably has to do with many of the restaurants there that are owned by celebrity chefs. Disney Springs From Morimoto Asia, which is owned by Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto to Chicken Guy!, owned by Guy Fieri, to Homecomin’, owned by Art Smith, there’s no shortage of famous chefs who own restaurants in Disney Springs. Well, we just got a chance to chat with one of Disney Springs’ celebrity chefs, Maneet Chauhan, who owns eet by Maneet Chauhan, and she filled us in on the one thing you should order at her restaurant. Okay, so we’re already BIG fans of eet by Maneet Chauhan — it’s seriously one of the most underrated restaurants in Disney World. However, after a media event where we got to have lunch with Chauhan, we’re even BIGGER fans of the dining spot. Of course, though, we had to ask what the most underrated item on the menu at the restaurant is in her expert opinion. Chauhan told us it’s the Street Style Puffed Rice Salad, made with crispy puffed rice, mango, strawberry, potato, cilantro, tamarind chutney, and mint chutney. We had lunch with a celebrity chef! However, the most popular things on the menu are the Tandoori Chicken Poutine, the Chicken Tikka Naan Pizza, and the DIY Pani Puri. Tandoori Chicken Poutine Chauhan also spilled the tea on some of the other celebrity chefs. She said the two judges she’s most nervous to face in TV cooking competitions are Eric Ripert and Daniel Boulud. However, she also talked about how most of the celebrity chefs are just like a big family and even told us that Guy Fieri (who owns Chicken Guy! in Disney Springs) isn’t as cool as he seems — he’s even cooler. She spoke about how he treats everyone like family and always steps up if someone is facing a challenge like an illness to organize fundraisers. Chicken Guy! Finally, Chauhan said the location in Disney Springs was a dream come true for her because she can bring the beauty of Indian food to mainstream America. Maneet Chauhan We really enjoyed our lunch with Maneet Chauhan and we’ll be returning to eet by Maneet Chauhan often and recommend you do so, too! Stay tuned to DFB for more.
