Don’t get us wrong — we’re BEYOND excited to see what Festival of the Arts in EPCOT brings to the table this year, but we have to admit there’s one problem we’re really hoping to see fixed. Festival of the Arts Don’t worry, it has nothing to do with the incredible entertainment or art offerings around the park in honor of the festival, but it does have something to do with the food. It’s not the food’s taste or presentation, necessarily. We’re talking about the menu boards. Now during the day, the menus are perfectly fine! We can read them with no issues and understand everything they’re telling us. However, once that sun goes down, which happens VERY early during the winter, we can’t see a thing. Refreshment Outpost Menu (2024) As soon as the sun goes down and we can’t see things as well any more, the menus are near impossible to read. Now, if you want to pull your phone out and use your flashlight to see what’s written there (we’ve been there, trust us), you do what you gotta do, but we really do think there’s an easy way to solve this issue. Festival of the Arts We suggest just putting lights INSIDE the paneling of the menus to make sure they’re bright at night! Whether that be a literal small spotlight shining on it from the ground, putting lights in the sides of the holders to shine on the menu when it gets dark, or building something onto the top of the menu board, lights SOMEWHERE would certainly help everyone out. 2024 EPCOT Festival of the Arts We want to be sure we know what we’re grabbing and trying so we can tell our readers exactly what to grab when they experience the festival themselves, and that gets much harder when we can’t read the menu. Now, this isn’t much of an issue during the Flower and Garden and Food and Wine Festivals since it doesn’t get dark until much later, but for these fall/winter festivals, we feel like we need headlamps once the sun goes down. Hey Figment! We can’t wait to experience all this year’s festival has to offer, so be sure to stay tuned to DFB for all the latest news and for live coverage during the opening day! California is in the middle of a major natural disaster as three fires rip through the Los Angeles area. Residents are instructed to evacuate if they live near the impacted zones, and the evacuation orders continue to expand. Sleeping Beauty Castle The fires began on Tuesday, January 7th. There are currently three fires burning throughout California, including one near Pasadena in the San Gabriel Mountains, one in part of the San Fernando Valley called Sylmar, and one in the Palisades area, which continues to migrate due to the Santa Ana winds. The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection is still investigating the cause of the fires, but officials believe the fires will continue to cause more damage. As the fires continue to burn, many are questioning the path of destruction. Are areas like Anaheim, California, home to Disneyland Resort, close to the fires? Below is a map of the Hurst Fire, the Eaton Fire, and the Palisades Fire, which are all located in the Los Angeles area. Anaheim is located about 47 miles from the Pacific Palisades and about 43 miles from the Eaton Fire. ©Google Maps According to a map from the New York Times, the smoke from the Palisades Fire is expected to spread through the Los Angeles area and up to Glendale. As of 5PM on Wednesday, the smoke will not reach Anaheim per the New York Times’ projections. That said, the Los Angeles International Airport will experience heavy smoke. ©New York Times California Governor Gavin Newsom issued a statement on Wednesday stating, “Firefighters are working through the night to save lives & battle these aggressive fires.” It’s unclear how long it will take for teams to contain the fires, but experts anticipate devastating losses over the next 24 hours. Slinky Dog Dash is one of the most beloved attractions in Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and for good reason! Slinky Dog Dash It’s adorable, thrilling (but not too thrilling), and perfect for riders of all ages. But let’s face it, sometimes the ride experience leaves a little something to be desired. With that in mind, we’ve dreamed up a few new “rules” for the ride that we think could make the experience even more magical, especially for Disney adults. Let’s dive in! Okay, so before you run to the comments section, let’s be clear: These aren’t actual rules, but wouldn’t it be amazing if they were? Disney’s Hollywood Studios is full of magic, but anyone who’s ever waited in the queue for Slinky Dog Dash knows there’s room for some extra pixie dust, and that’s why we’re having a bit of fun dreaming up some new “rules” for the ride. If You Ride in the Front, You Deserve a Do-Over Here’s the deal: The front row is a trap. Sure, it’s great for the view of the track ahead, but once you crest that first hill, good luck seeing literally anything else. The front car may as well come with a blindfold because all you’re going to see is Slinky’s back, and not exactly in a cute, Instagram-worthy way. Slinky Dog Dash What we’re proposing is that if you ride in the front row, you’re entitled to an automatic second ride, no questions asked. Think of it as a little bonus for taking one for the team. Plus, you deserve a proper chance to enjoy the ride’s twists, turns, and Toy Story Land views without the canine obstruction. Mandatory Trivia at Boarding If you think that you’re the ultimate Toy Story fan, this is your chance to prove it. Before boarding, riders should have to answer a Toy Story trivia question (correctly, of course). It’s time to separate the casual fans from the true Pixar die-hards. Boarding zone We’re not saying you have to recite all of Woody’s Roundup backstory from memory, but maybe answer a question like, “What’s the name of Andy’s neighbor?” (Spoiler: it’s Sid.) If you miss your question, to the back of the line you go. Just kidding. All, you’d have to wait for the next train. It’s all in good fun, but it’s also a great way to pass the time and add a little extra Toy Story magic to the experience. Priority Boarding for Anyone Dressed as a Toy Story Character Have you ever seen a Disneybound Buzz Lightyear patiently waiting in line and thought, They deserve better? Us too. That’s why we’re proposing priority boarding for anyone who puts in the effort to dress as a Toy Story character. Whether you’re fully decked out as Jessie or rocking a subtle Disneybound inspired by Bo Peep, this rule is a shoutout to all the Disney adults who make the parks a more colorful and creative place. We love all things Toy Story! Let’s reward that effort with a little Toy Story Land VIP treatment. That doesn’t seem too much to ask, right? Free Slinky Toys for the First Ten Riders of the Day Who doesn’t love a free souvenir? To add a little extra incentive for the early birds, we think the first ten riders of the day should get a free Slinky Dog toy. Yes, this will probably cause chaos at rope drop. Yes, we fully support it. Slinky Dog Sipper Can you imagine the bragging rights of not only being one of the first to ride Slinky Dog Dash but also walking away with an actual slinky toy? It’s the kind of fun, playful touch that Disney is known for, and we’re here for it. Silent Trains for Introverts Sometimes, you just need a moment of peace, even in the most magical place on Earth. Enter: the Silent Train. Every third ride vehicle could be designated as a “quiet car” where talking, shouting, and screaming are politely discouraged. Slinky Dog Dash Think of it as a sensory-friendly option for those who want to enjoy the ride without the extra noise. Whether you’re an introvert in need of a break or just someone who prefers a little quiet time, the Silent Train would be a game-changer. (And yes, we know this one is wildly unrealistic, but we can dream, right?) Slinky Dog Dash in Toy Story Land There you have it, our totally unofficial, 100% wishful thinking “rules” for Slinky Dog Dash. We’re not saying Disney will ever adopt these ideas, but hey, who knows? So, what do you think? Are these rules brilliant or completely bananas? Got your own dream ideas for improving Slinky Dog Dash? Let us know in the comments down below. Happy New Year! We’re excited for all that’s in store at Disney World in 2025 and we certainly don’t blame you if you’re planning a trip, too! Disney’s BoardWalk Inn There are SO many new things coming to the parks and beyond this year, like a new nighttime parade at Magic Kingdom, new Villains and Little Mermaid shows at Hollywood Studios, and new lounges at EPCOT and Magic Kingdom, too. A bunch of new hotel discounts just dropped, too, so you can save a bit of dough. But, there’s one MASSIVE problem with Disney World’s new hotel discounts. New year, new discounts! Disney just dropped three NEW discounts that can help you save money on your 2025 vacation. New deals for summer 2025 have arrived for everyone — plus there are specific discounts for Annual Passholders and Florida Residents, too! But if you ask us, there’s one massive problem with these deals. Stormalong Bay There’s a new hotel discount that anyone can use, as long as your travel dates and resort booking qualify! Save up to 30% on certain rooms at Disney World hotels when you stay five consecutive nights or longer (and there are other discounts for shorter lengths of stay too!). This offer is valid for most nights from May 1st to September 30th, 2025. Art of Animation If you’re a Disney World Annual Passholder, you can score a little EXTRA discount on your next hotel stay! You can get up to 40% off rooms for stays from June 1st to July 31st, 2025, or 35% off rooms from May 1st to May 31st, 2025. Caribbean Beach Resort And last but not least, we’ve got to mention the special deal for Florida Residents! Save up to 35% on rooms for stays most nights from May 1st to July 31st, 2025 when you book by February 24th, 2025. The discount will still be available on February 25th and later, but the savings will drop down a bit at that point. Pop Century Here’s the thing, though — when Disney says “save up to…” the biggest discounts are actually reserved for the MOST expensive hotels. That sounds great, right? Sure, until you realize that everyone wants to score those top savings — meaning the rooms available can sell out pretty quickly. Luckily, there are typically plenty of other discounts available other than what’s available at the Deluxe Resorts, so you should still be able to find a discount if you hurry! Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa If you’re planning on booking a trip, we recommend using our travel agent friends over at Small World Vacations! They’re experts in planning Disney vacations, and they’ll be able to help you through the whole process — making sure you can get the best deal for you. In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for the latest discounts and deals you might find around Disney World. Make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog so you don’t miss any important news or announcements! Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal CityWalk in California will be closed today, January 8th. Universal Studios Hollywood The closure is due to extreme winds and fires impacting Southern California. According to ABC 7 News, extreme winds and fires are sweeping through Southern California. Fires are affecting the Pacific Palisades, a Los Angeles coastal neighborhood, the Eaton Canyon area, and the Sylmar area. The winds could reach 80 mph with gusts up to 100 mph in the mountains and foothills. Universal Studios Hollywood Winds this powerful are raising the risk of wildfires, and the fires that have erupted have caused mandatory evacuations in some areas. As Los Angeles and more of Southern California monitor the situation, Universal Studios Hollywood has made the decision to close its theme park and CityWalk. In a post on X, the resort stated they “will continue to assess the situation and expect to open for business tomorrow [Thursday, January 9th]. The safety of our team members and our guests is our top priority.” We’ll be watching for more updates from Universal Studios Hollywood and potentially Disneyland Resort and the threat of winds and fires continues. Disney Springs is often the place we recommend for shopping or dining around Disney World because while the parks and hotels have great restaurants and Disney-themed stores, Disney Springs is on another level. Disney Springs For the month of January, Disney Springs has a special event going on that those focused on wellness and starting their year off on the right foot won’t want to miss. This month, there are multiple FREE offerings for Disney Springs’ Wellness Month event, and one of them is a free fitness class taught by none other than the Cirque Du Soleil performers who showcase their skills in Drawn to Life each evening! Bring your yoga mat over to the Amphitheater near the Boathouse at Disney Springs and get ready to take part in the Cirque Du Soleil Drawn to Life Wellness Workout that’s friendly for all ages. Cirque Du Soleil Wellness Workout The class is taught by Cirque performers, but not only that — there are also Cirque performers all throughout the audience with their own yoga mats to help you see the moves if you’re not as close to the front! Wellness Workout While some of the performers are in regular workout gear, others are in FULL costume! Yes, we did yoga next to an owl and it was incredible. SO COOL Each move demonstrated is shown at three different levels — a beginner, a medium, and the highest level is called “Cirque Level” which is essentially close to what they perform in the actual show! Needless to say, we stayed right at the beginning level and got plenty of exercise. Class is in session! The energy around the class was fantastic — everyone was positive and uplifting, with everyone feeling encouraged to push themselves a little bit without burning themselves out. Not to mention that the view we got was stunning! Everyone was in the zone This happens multiple times throughout the month, and you can check the Disney Springs website to see when it, and the other Wellness Month offerings, are being offered throughout the rest of the month. Disney has officially filed permits to demolish TriceraTop Spin and Fossil Fun Games. Dinoland U.S.A. DinoLand U.S.A. is set for extinction soon and the first steps are underway with the first closures beginning on January 12th, 2025. Now we have confirmation that the attractions will be demolished thanks to the official Notice of Commencement filed by Walt Disney Imagineering on January 7th, 2025. DinoLand U.S.A.’s time is coming to a close and we can’t believe it’s already time to say goodbye. Well, almost! 2025 is the final year to go get that dino over in Disney’s Animal Kingdom with a phased closing happening throughout the year. We’ve known for quite some time that DinoLand’s days were numbered but it was confirmed in August 2024 at D23: The Ultimate Fan Event in Anaheim. DinoLand U.S.A Disney has shared that guests will be able to enjoy the ride Dinosaur throughout 2025 by sharing, “2025 is your year to visit before it goes extinct!” DinoLand is being reimagined into Tropical Americas which will use inspiration from Encanto and Indiana Jones. @Disney This land will be called Pueblo Esperanza! Disney has confirmed there will be two major attractions in this new land. There will be an Encanto ride featuring the Madrigal family and a new Indiana Jones adventure ride! As fans of Encanto and the Indiana Jones ride over in Disneyland, we are really eager to see what Disney does with these attractions. ©Disney Within the land, we will also see a gorgeous carousel and new dining and shopping options. With the filing of these permits and the closures beginning in just a few days, it’s officially time to start waving a sorrowful goodbye to the land that has been with us since 1998. Don’t forget that TriceraTop Spin, Fossil Fun Games, and Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures will all close on January 12th, 2025. The Disney Dining Plan is a fantastic resource for many families and Disney World visitors who have done the math and know that they’ll get tons of use out of pre-paying for your food ahead of time. Look for the purple “DDP Snack Credit logo” on price signage and menus! The largest amount of credits you get to use are snack credits, which can be used at a majority of snack carts and restaurants around the parks. In fact, the VAST majority of Disney World restaurants and carts have eligible snacks, but not EVERY snack on the menu will be eligible, if that makes sense. When you arrive you will be able to see what is eligible based on the DDP icon on the menu next to the item you’re looking at. You want to make sure you’re making the MOST of your snack credits, so here are the ones we recommend — not only are they delicious, but they cost more than the average snack, but they’re all equal under the DDP, so it’s a steal! While things change all the time in Disney World, we strongly suggest checking for these snacks while you’re on your trip, as it’s likely many of them will be available! Magic Kingdom Starting in the flagship park, on Main Street U.S.A. you’ll find some incredible Ice Cream Sundaes at the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor that range in price from $7.29-$8.49. Oftentimes, these are large enough to be shareable, but if you’re trying to use up snack credits, grab one for each person and prepare for ice cream overload. All-American Sundae from Plaza Ice Cream Parlor And while we love any Dole Whip at Aloha Isle, the best deal for the Disney Dining Plan in our opinion is the Pineapple Upside-Down Cake topped with DOLE Whip for $6.99. Again, it’s shareable, but if you’ve got the credits, let everyone get their own! Pineapple Upside-down Cake from Aloha Isle Refreshments Looking for breakfast that will fill you up, or that you can split between more than one person and use more as a snack? The Gaston’s Cinnamon Roll from Gaston’s Tavern is calling your name, and with the DDP, this $6.99 snack is a great way to feel good about your credit usage. Gaston’s Tavern — Warm Cinnamon Roll We’re not saying any other Magic Kingdom snacks are bad, but these are some of our favorites, and to get them at a price that feels free in the moment is EPIC. EPCOT There are so many great options included on the DDP at Karamell-Küche in the Germany pavilion, but we have to admit that grabbing the Werther’s Popcorn or the Cookie Sandwiches available are easily the best options. The cookie sandwiches are around $7.79 a piece, while the popcorn will run you $7.99 — definitely one of the best snack DDP deals out there! Mickey Werther’s® Original® Caramel Chocolate Cookie Sandwich More of a savory fan? No worries — the Traditional Poutine from Refreshment Port will run you $7.50 normally, but it’s included with the dining plan! It’s never disappointed us and honestly could be a meal for many people. Traditional Poutine from Refreshment Port If there’s an EPCOT Festival going on while you’re visiting, don’t forget to check for the DDP symbol beside the festival booth offerings, as some of them are available and could be fantastic choices for you and your group. Disney’s Hollywood Studios One of our favorite sweet treats in Hollywood Studios for a while has been the Carrot Cake Cookie from Trolley Car Cafe, the Starbucks location in this park. We love how massive this cookie is for $5.49, but getting it (what feels like) for free is the best feeling. Carrot Cake Cookie at Disney’s Hollywood Studios And we can’t forget the massive Funnel Cakes over at Epic Eats! These are VERY much shareable, and we honestly think they’re hard for one person to eat alone. Ranging in price of $7.29-$8.49, this is one of the best snack credit deals you can find in this park. Funnel Cakes!! Again, there are tons of snacks in this park that qualify that you may feel are more enticing than these, and that’s totally okay! But we’ve recommended these for years and don’t plan to stop any time soon — we think they’re definitely worth considering! Disney’s Animal Kingdom Animal Kingdom is FULL of incredible snacks, but one of them really stands out in this category to us. The Pineapple Crisp Sundae at Tamu Tamu Refreshments is in a league of its own. It’ll cost you $6.49, and this one is so good that everyone should definitely get their own! Pineapple Crisp Sundae We’ll continue to update you on all the newest Disney World treats, so stay tuned to DFB! Don’t Worry. This Free Disney Dining Plan Hack Feels Illegal, but It Isn’t! Consumers are about to have even more options when traveling to Orlando International Airport (MCO)! Orlando International Airport Terminal C We’re constantly looking for the latest news from airlines and airports to help you stay informed about potential delays and alternatives to your typical travels. According to the latest report from the Orlando Business Journal, multiple airlines are adding more travel routes in an effort to make getting to MCO more accessible than ever before. Flying to Orlando (and by extension Disney World) may be easier for you very soon. 22 new additional flights are already in place to debut as routes to MCO over the new year in 2025. The Orlando International Airport and its airline partners will begin rolling out new routes throughout 2025 which will include first-time flights to several U.S. cities and a few international destinations like Germany and France. ©Discover Airlines The uptick in new routes comes as a result of the exponential growth MCO has seen in recent years which has also earned it the seventh-largest airport in the U.S. Most recently, MCO has expanded a third Terminal to the airport, Terminal C, with plans of further expansion in the near future. Terminal C Let’s take a look at when we can expect to see these new routes debut at MCO and with their corresponding airlines: In January, look for Alaska Airlines to run new destinations from MCO to Boise, Idaho, and Sacramento, California, operating on a seasonal service schedule. Boise, ID is expected to run from January 7th-March 25th, while Sacramento, CA flights will run from January 6th-April 21st. Additionally, JetBlue will begin flights to Manchester, New Hampshire, beginning on January 23rd. ©Alaska Airlines February is when we can expect to see new seasonal American Airlines flights to Boston, Massachusetts out of Orlando between February 14th and 23rd. Breeze Airways will add routes to Gulfport, Mississippi, beginning February 6th, as well as Ogdensburg, New York, and Wilmington, North Carolina, beginning on February 13th. ©Tad Denson | Breeze Airways March will bring new flights to Austin, Texas, and Los Angeles via Frontier Airlines starting on March 6th, as well as Oklahoma City starting on March 7th. Delta Air Lines begins a short seasonal service to Nashville, Tennessee beginning on March 8th through April 12th. Discover Airlines will add flights to Munich starting March 3rd, to round out the changes for the month. ©Delta In April, Delta Air Lines begins service to Indianapolis, Indiana for the first time starting April 5th, while Southwest Airlines launches service to San Diego and Richmond, Virginia on April 10th. Frontier Airlines will start service on April 22nd to San Francisco later in the month. Frontier Airlines Our second international change is anticipated to begin in May with Air France restarting service in Orlando for the first time since 2012 with flights to Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport. The target to begin flying is by May 21st however, this is still subject to government approval. ©Frontier Airlines August is when we’ll see the last of the current plans for new flights to roll out when Southwest Airlines plans to launch service beginning August 5th to Fort Myers, Los Angeles, West Palm Beach, Miami, and Sarasota. Let’s fly! As you can see, MCO is gearing up to be an even busier airport even with the expansion to allow for more passengers to fly more frequently. If you’re planning on flying into Orlando as these new routes are set to begin, it’s important to remember to be patient, anticipate delays, pack efficiently, and stay updated with your trusted airline company for potential delays and changes. As always, we’ll be keeping you informed of any changes that may be announced as these new routes begin but we are excited to see so many new flights coming so soon! Disney’s Hollywood Studios is about to be the home of many construction walls for the next few years. Hollywood Studios The same can be said for almost all of Disney World’s parks thanks to all new additions and changes taking place. We’re looking forward to their outcome, don’t get us wrong, but in the meantime, these walls are going to be a LOT to deal with. In the case of Hollywood Studios, we don’t exactly know when these changes are coming just yet, but the announcement could come any day now, so in preparation, this is what the park will look like when those walls go up. Over in Muppets Courtyard, this area will be demolished to make way for the new Monsters Inc. Land. We know that the land is set to open in 2026 or 2027, so we aren’t quite sure when the construction walls will be going up. Muppets Courtyard in Hollywood Studios Thankfully this section of the park is a little off the beaten path, so the construction walls won’t block things off too much, but it will mean that two restaurants and a beloved attraction are going away. This means that other attractions and restaurants will likely be more crowded, so keep that in mind! A construction wall will likely be around this area As for the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster closure, this will cause more issues when the new Villains Show opens up. While the construction walls won’t block the entrance to the new show, it will make the pathway to get to the new show much smaller. This will likely lead to lots of bottlenecking, so prepare for shoulder-to-shoulder traffic in this area. The walls will likely go around this way These walls will likely be up for at least a year, most likely multiple years, so it’s important for us to prepare for their arrival ahead of time. We’ll be sure to keep you updated when we see them, so be sure to stay tuned to DFB for the latest news! It’s Official! It may be only January but it’s official — Haunted Mansion Holiday is returning to Disneyland in the 2025-2026 spooky season! Haunted Mansion Holiday Disneyland originally announced this morning on its website that Haunted Mansion Holiday would return from November 14th, 2025 through January 7th, 2026. However, it was announced soon after that those dates were incorrect and that the overlay would instead be open a bit earlier! It looks like Haunted Mansion Holiday will be around in time for the Halloween season to start in Disneyland on August 22nd, after all! Haunted Mansion Holiday is a yearly overlay that happens at Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion attraction. The ride typically closes for a few weeks to turn the ride into a Nightmare Before Christmas-inspired adventure featuring all your favorite characters from the film. Haunted Mansion Holiday Some Disneyland guests actually prefer Haunted Mansion Holiday over the original version, while others are always relieved to see it go after each holiday season. The original ride is typically available each year from around mid-January through the end of July. The ride often closes at the beginning of August (at the latest) to overlay the ride, then closes again in early January for a few weeks to transform back into the original Haunted Mansion. Haunted Mansion Holiday At this time, Disney has not released any more information about the 2025-2026 holiday season, and we’ll be honest — this was way earlier than we were expecting anything! Currently, Haunted Mansion is closed to remove the overlay and restore it to its original version, which will reopen on Saturday, January 18th. More Recent Disneyland Resort News! There are many perks to being a Disney World Annual Passholder. Annual Passholder Frostbite Frozen Slushy Getting access to special events and offers and saving some money on special ticketed events are two big ones, but many guests also love getting the opportunity to buy merchandise that is otherwise unavailable. One of the free offerings Passholders get each year is a new Passholder Magnet, and we love seeing what characters are featured each time. Disney has just revealed a hint about who’s on the next magnet, and fans are very excited! We know from the caption that this character has to do with music, and from the animation style and background seen in the video (which features a spotlight looking for the character, also very in line with music/performing), we’re agreeing with many of the comments that believe the new Annual Passholder magnet stars will be from The Princess and The Frog! Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Disney World’s Magic Kingdom Some commenters believe Tiana will be on the new magnet, while countless others are guessing it’ll be Ray or Louis! We’re thinking any character from the film would match very well with Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, as the ride is still pretty popular and hasn’t been open for a year yet. The characters from the film also haven’t been given the chance to be on an Annual Passholder magnet just yet, so we’re hoping now is their time to shine! If you visit Disney World and you look up in the sky, you might find fireworks, Tinker Bell, or people screaming from inside the Tower of Terror. Hi, Tinker Bell! What you won’t usually find are drones, helicopters, or airplanes buzzing Cinderella Castle or Spaceship Earth. If Disney World is so incredibly popular, why is it that it’s not bombarded by people constantly giving bird’s eye view tours or trying to spy backstage? Is it possible that something is preventing people from flying over the theme parks day and night? Yes, there actually is! If you look at a sectional map designed for aircrew of aircraft, you’ll see a very bold and very red circle right around the area of Walt Disney World. Red circle around Disney World ©SkyVector This red circle means that there is a TFR (Temporary Flight Restriction, but this one is designated as permanent) or “No Fly Zone” around Disney World. This no-fly zone is here, thanks to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The FAA has deemed this area as a no-fly zone for special security reasons. It is defined as “National Defense Airspace,” and anyone who violates the airspace without the proper waivers or permission will be in some very serious trouble. Don’t fly near Cinderella Castle, even with a drone! But you’re probably thinking that if you do look up in the sky while you’re at Disney World, there’s a very good chance that you’ll see an airplane flying over you, likely from Orlando International Airport on its way to its next destination. True, that is absolutely likely. The Disney World no-fly zone has very specific dimensions. No one is allowed to fly from the surface up to 3,000 feet above the ground within a 3-nautical mile radius of the center of the circle. So, as long as aircraft are above 3,000 feet of the ground, they are good to fly right over Disney World. EPCOT There are very few exceptions to the rules of the no-fly zone, including air ambulances, the Department of Defense, and law enforcement. However, personal drones and other aircraft will need to stay outside of the dimensions of this no-fly zone. (Perhaps Tinker Bell gets away with flying over Magic Kingdom each night because she’s a fairy and not flying a personal aircraft. ) We hope this helps clear the air (pun intended) about the no-fly zone!
