  2. January 6th is a BIG day for Disney World. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Unfortunately, we’re not looking forward to this day for anything opening, but the exact opposite. THREE popular Disney World rides will be closing for varying amounts of time for refurbishments. We’ll be getting a bit of new magic on one, while the other two will likely just see routine maintenance during their closures. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad We’ve been anticipating this ride closure for a while now, and on January 6th, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will close for an extended temporary closure. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and the massive construction crane The “Wildest Ride in the Wilderness” is closing for at least a year and will reopen sometime in 2026. When it reopens it will have some “new magic,” according to Disney. We can’t wait to see what changes will be coming to this ever popular roller coaster! Kali River Rapids Kali River Rapids is a popular water ride at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Kali River Rapids Since this is a water ride, and it’s a bit cold outside in Florida during the winter, Disney often closes this ride for refurbishment this time of year. It will close be closed on January 6th, and no times are available for the ride on the Disney World website as far as the calendar currently goes out. Gran Fiesta Tour Starring the Three Caballeros Over at EPCOT, the Gran Fiesta Tour ride at the Mexico pavilion will also be closing on January 6th! Gran Fiesta Tour The ride will temporarily close for refurbishment and is expected to reopen on March 15th! Hurry to get on these rides one last time before their temporary closures on Monday, January 6th. To see what other attractions and locations will be closed this week, January 4th through January 11th, keep reading below! Magic Kingdom Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade We had to say goodbye to an opening day attraction on June 23rd. Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade The Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade was around for generations and provided simple fun to all who played. Now, the attraction has closed to make room for a new Disney Vacation Club lounge. This lounge will be the third in Disney World, joining one in EPCOT and one at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. Disney has not yet announced when the new lounge will open. The ONE Disney World Park That’s Perfect For Your First Day (and NO, It’s Not Magic Kingdom) Tomorrowland Terrace Tomorrowland Terrace is a quick-service restaurant that has been closed since the 2020 pandemic-related closures, but even before that, this spot was only occasionally open. Tomorrowland Terrace Once in a while, you’ll see the dining room open as a rest area (and it’s still being used for the Magic Kingdom Fireworks Dessert Parties), but it’s usually all roped off and empty. Tomorrowland Terrace Disney hasn’t announced when this spot could finally reopen, but we’ll be watching for updates. If you’re looking for a nice spot to hang out in Disney World and sit down for a rest, this could be it! These 3 Maps Show What Magic Kingdom Will Look Like for the Next Several Years EPCOT Test Track Test Track closed on June 17th, and Disney is giving this ride a BIG makeover! Test Track construction Disney has shared that the new version of Test Track will take inspiration from the old ride, World of Motion, that was originally there when the park opened in 1982. Disney shared more details at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Experience, and an updated opening timeline was just announced! We’ll be able to ride Test Track once again in late summer 2025. Disney Shares NEW LOOK at EPCOT’s Reimagined Test Track Attraction Restaurant Marrakesh Restaurant Marrakesh is currently closed as a dining location in the Morocco pavilion of EPCOT’s World Showcase, and there’s no word yet on when the restaurant could fully reopen. Restaurant Marrakesh Occasionally, we’ll see it open as a lounge or Kidcot Fun Stop. So, if you’re in the Morocco Pavilion, check it out to see if it’s open. We’re watching for updates on when the full restaurant could reopen! What’s That Green Wall in EPCOT, and What Is It For? Hollywood Studios Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy The Cars-themed show featuring Lighting McQueen permanently closed on October 8th, 2024, to make way for a brand-new Villains show. Sunset Showcase The Cars show was previously housed in the Sunset Showcase building, but the last day for guests to enjoy it was October 7th. The new Villains show is supposed to debut in the summer of 2025. We’re always watching for more details about the new show, and we recently spotted a casting call for Cruella de Vil, Captain Hook, and Maleficent! It’s Official! A Popular Restaurant Finally FIXED Our Biggest Complaint in Disney’s Hollywood Studios Voyage of the Little Mermaid Voyage of the Little Mermaid is currently closed in Disney World. But we recently spotted some construction walls up at the building along with a new permit filed! Voyage of the Little Mermaid Disney is going to introduce a new, updated show in this spot, though it will still be themed to the animated movie The Little Mermaid! The new show will be called “The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure,” and it is now coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Summer 2025. The Little Mermaid: A Musical Adventure Disney still hasn’t announced an official opening date for the new show, but it has been postponed from its Fall 2024 opening timeline. It will be a “fully reimagined theatrical production inspired by the Walt Disney Animation Studios classic.” NEW LOOK at “The Little Mermaid” Show Coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios! Typhoon Lagoon Blizzard Beach officially welcomed guests back on November 4th! That same day, Typhoon Lagoon closed its gates for the season. Typhoon Lagoon Typhoon Lagoon will likely be closed throughout the winter until sometime in the spring. Disney has been having one water park open at a time seasonally since 2020. In the meantime, you can enjoy the slopes at Blizzard Beach this winter! Click here to learn all about Blizzard Beach Disney World Hotels Everything POP Shopping & Dining — Disney’s Pop Century Resort The Everything Pop Food Court continues its refurbishment for the time being. Everything Pop entrance Since July 29th, Everything Pop has been getting some work done. The refurbishment was supposed to end on September 29th. However, it was extended to November 30th, and now it has been extended AGAIN until April 2025. We recently visited the food court, and it’s looking great! There is far less construction, and almost everything is open and available again. This is a big improvement, and it’s great that people staying here have most dining shopping options available to them once again. Stormalong Bay — Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts Stormalong Bay is the shared pool between Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts. It features a beach, lazy river, large pool, and exciting pirate ship slide! Stormalong Bay From January until June, this pool area will be closed for refurbishment. While it’s closed, hotel guests can use the Tidal (Beach Club), Admiral (Yacht Club), and Dunes Cove (Beach Club) leisure pools. Fantasia Pool — Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort From January 1st through April 30th, the Fantasia Pool at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort will be closed. Fantasia Pool While this pool is closed, you can swim at the Duck Pond Pool also located at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort if you’re staying here. 4. We go to Disney World all the time, and that means we’ve gotten pretty good at knowing what to pack in our park bags. We will take a room in the Castle, please! Winter, early summer, summer, or summer part II (because let’s be honest, there are definitely NOT four seasons in Orlando), we’re ready for the weather, the crowds, and any other park conditions we may need to be prepared for. But we have to level with you — people are going to judge you if you bring certain things with you on vacation. DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. Reusable Straws Silicone straw set Starting off our list of items people will judge you for, we’ve got to talk about those reusable straws! We’re big fans of packing these in our park bags because nearly everywhere you go in Disney World has paper straws (unless it’s a third-party location that offers something like agave straws). You may feel dorky whipping out that reusable straw to stick in your Starbucks cup, but trust us, you’ll be grateful when it doesn’t dissolve after half an hour. Plus, if you buy this kit from Amazon, it comes with carrying cases and cleaning tools to match. SNAG THE STRAWS HERE! Reusable Utensils So useful! In a similar vein, pulling out your reusable utensil set can earn you some strange looks while you’re in the parks, but they can be a huge help, especially during EPCOT festivals. No need to constantly be on the hunt for a utensil dispenser that’s properly stocked or to have to constantly remember to grab utensils for everyone in your party at a quick service restaurant. Keep a set of these in your bag and you’ll be ready to snack all day long! CLICK HERE TO SHOP THE UTENSILS! Neck Fans JISULIFE Neck Fan We know, we know, neck fans can look SUPER dorky. But sometimes when it’s 100 degrees and 80% humidity in Disney World, you stop caring about how you look and just care about getting cool any way possible. These are a great hands-free way to keep some air flow on your face, and they become a pretty popular park bag staple during the summertime. Just remember to wear your hair up so it doesn’t snag in the motor! GET A NECK FAN ONLINE HERE! Reusable Snack Bags ©Amazon If you’re like us, you’re probably eating a LOT of snacks in the parks. And occasionally, you can’t stomach the entire cookie (or whatever your treat of choice is). In those times, we like to be prepared with reusable snack bags. People often look at us weird because we’re prepared for leftovers, but then we get to enjoy our favorite treats at the end of the day in our hotel room, and what do they have? ZIP, ZILCH, NADA. Savor those snacks and get you some reusable snack bags! CLICK HERE TO CHECK OUT THE SNACK BAGS! An Alarm Clock/Sound Machine ©Amazon Hotel rooms can be obnoxiously loud, especially if you’re in a main building or you’re trying to bring little ones back to nap midday. That’s why we like to pack our own sound machine, and this one doubles as an alarm clock. If you use a sound machine at home, this can be a peaceful way to make sleeping in an unfamiliar bed more relaxing. ORDER THE ALARM CLOCK FROM AMAZON HERE! Bath Bombs/Shower Steamers ©Amazon Are we weird for bringing bath bombs or shower steamers to a theme park vacation? Maybe. But when you’re on your fourth day and everything hurts, it’s nice to have a little something-something to help you relax when you’re doing that end-of-the-night shower. It can be a challenge to unwind after a busy park day, and these lavender shower steamers will get you nice and chill before bedtime. SNAG THE BATH BOMBS HERE! Sweatshirts ©Disney This one may seem strange, but sometimes we get odd looks for bringing sweatshirts into the parks, especially when the weather is nice and toasty midday. People underestimate how cold it can get in Disney World at night during the winter, and having a jacket on hand makes a huge difference. Trust us, if you just go ahead and pack one, you’ll save yourself the cost and headache of having to buy a sweatshirt in a gift shop. CLICK HERE TO SHOP THE MICKEY SWEATSHIRT! So there you have it — the items that people may judge you for bringing to Disney World, but you’ll be thankful that you had in your suitcase! Trust us, we’ve done this a lot. We’ll make sure to keep you in the loop with any more packing tips, so stay tuned to DFB. Disney merchandise There’s one thing we’re learning from Gen Z as they take Disney World by storm — that you can look absolutely bangin’ while still remaining comfortable in the parks. We’re taking Gen Z’s fashion advice all day long and if you are too, you’re gonna want to check out these dresses that every Gen Z Disney fan will be wearing to the parks in 2025. A NEW Blogilates x Target collaboration just dropped and it features some of the cutest athletic dresses we’ve ever seen. We love wearing dresses like these to the parks because they’re SUPER functional and cute at the same time. We’ve rounded up a few of our favorites below! We love this Ballerina Active Dress! ©Target Okay, how adorable is this dress? That flowy skirt is SO cute and looks like it would keep you nice and cool, while the neckline looks sleek and put together. Like other athletic dresses, this one has built-in shorts under the skirt so you don’t have to worry about any outfit mishaps. Plus, it comes in a ton of different colors! Grab it online now. View at Target Don’t forget this Romance Run dress. ©Target We’re getting total cheerleader vibes from this dress design and we definitely don’t hate it! The thick tank top strap is made to be more comfortable, and who doesn’t love a flattering v-neckline? The fitted bodice and flare skirt are such a cute combination! View at Target And finally, the Game Set Match Halter dress is a winner too! ©Target We love that this one looks like a shirt and skort combo without having to worry about keeping anything tucked in and getting bunched up. The drawstring waistline helps it look a bit more casual and the slit in the skort reveals some of the shorts hiding beneath for easy access to those pockets! 7. It’s time for a Disney World trip R.E.P.O.R.T. I’ve been to Disney World a LOT. I’ve worked in the parks (both literally as a Cast Member and physically as a remote worker). I’ve played in the parks. I’ve dined in the parks. I’ve made friends in the parks. There’s never a dull moment when you’re in Disney World! Cinderella Castle Now that I’m back from my latest trip to Disney World, I’m here to share my experience! Even though I’ve been to Disney World more times than I can count, each trip is different, and there’s always something I would do differently. Come along and see what it’s like to have a quick trip to Disney World from the perspective of a Gen Z Disney fan! If you need a new song to add to your Disney playlist, it should be this. Obsessing — Happily Ever After Magic Kingdom’s nightly fireworks show NEVER gets old. The soundtrack is FLAWLESS. The visuals are perfect. The fireworks themselves are stunning. Nothing will ever top this show. We LOVE Happily Ever After! There are a ton of great places to watch the show, but if you don’t like being packed like sardines, I would avoid Main Street, U.S.A. altogether. I like to watch the fireworks in Fantasyland! Sometimes, you might even get lucky and spot a Disney princess enjoying the show, too. Recommending — A Visit to Les Halles Boulangerie & Patisserie OK, here’s where my one and only trip regret comes in. I LOVE visiting Les Halles Boulangerie & Patisserie in EPCOT. It’s not a very big restaurant, but it manages to bring in a LOT of people. Back in the day, this spot was considered a hidden gem. But the secret’s out, and I’ve seen some LONG lines form here. If you don’t time it right, you might end up waiting in a long line for a little snack here, and that’s exactly what happened to me. The line in question Do I regret waiting so long for a Patisserie a L’abricot? No! But next time, I should probably try to visit this restaurant before or after the lunch rush. Patisserie a L’abricot My second complaint is that there aren’t a lot of places to sit in the France Pavilion, so be prepared to wander around the World Showcase in search of a table and chairs. Treating — Myself to a Lyft Ride When the Line at the Bus Stop Is Ridiculously Long If you make the mistake of leaving the Magic Kingdom right after the fireworks, you’ll probably wind up in a LONG line at the bus stop. During my trip to Disney World, by the end of the night, I was exhausted. I needed a break, and I didn’t have the energy to wait for a bus back to my hotel. Instead, I sucked it up and paid for a Lyft back to my hotel. Rideshare sign at EPCOT Yes, the Disney World transportation is free. But sometimes, it’s better to pay ten-ish dollars and skip the hassle. I wouldn’t pay for an Uber or Lyft ride every time I go to or from my hotel, but every once in a while, it’s nice to treat myself and get a private ride. ©Lyft We’ve made it to the end of my trip report! I hope you had fun. As you can see, my visits to Disney World consist of buying snacks, watching the fireworks, and wandering through the World Showcase. Ah, the life of a Disney fan! 8. Who’s hungry?! If you’re planning a trip to Disneyland, it can be hard deciding where to eat — especially if you’re visiting Downtown Disney. That place has a TON of great restaurants! Downtown Disney Speaking of dining, hi. Here at Disney Food Blog, we have a LOT to say about food. We’ve tried a TON of snacks, meals, and drinks in Disneyland, and we’re gearing up to try even MORE! Several new additions are headed to Downtown Disney, and before we visit these restaurants, we need to preview the menus. Come with us — it’s time to make a FOOD wishlist! Disney announced that Parkside Market is set to open “this winter” on the west end of the Downtown Disney district. This spot will have four distinct dining locations under the same roof. It will be home to: Vista Parkside Market, which will serve signature craft cocktails and mocktails Seoul Sister, which will be a fast-casual modern eatery serving Korean-style rice bowls Sip & Sonder, which will serve lattes, fresh treats, frozen drinks and small bites GG’s Chicken Shop, which will serve chicken sandwiches, salads and classic dinner table sides ©Disney We’ve been WAITING for a glimpse into what these spots would serve, and now we have a preview of the menus! First up is Sip & Sonder, which will serve lattes, fresh treats, frozen drinks and small bites. ©Parkside Market Sip & Sonder was founded by Amanda-Jane Thomas and Shanita Nicholas. The brand has been recognized as one of the best cafés in L.A. by the Los Angeles Times. We’re seeing lots of fun drinks on the menu, like a Lavender Tea Latte and a Chai Latte called The Sparrow. YUM! ©Parkside Market In addition to Sip & Sonder’s signature lattes, we spotted some small bites, like a Cinnamon Roll and a Cake Pop! ©Parkside Market Next, we’re checking out the menu at Vista Parkside Market. This spot is located on the second story and is described as an al fresco spot with great views and signature craft cocktails and mocktails. The menu boasts frozen lemonades, frozés, espresso martinis, shareable cocktails, and spirit-free elixirs. ©Parkside Market ©Parkside Market There’s a large selection of sparkling drinks, too! ©Parkside Market ©Parkside Market And if you’re looking for something nonalcoholic, check out the Brisk Breeze or the Bird’s Eye View drinks. ©Parkside Market Time for some FOOD! Seoul Sister will be a fast-casual modern eatery serving Korean-style rice bowls, and we’re LOVING this menu. Those dumplings are calling our name! ©Parkside Market Seoul Sister will be a fast-casual restaurant with a Korean-forward menu based on bibimbap (Korean rice bowls) “with a California twist.” According to the Parkside Market website, “Executive Chef Kelly Kim will showcase bold Korean flavors through marinated meats, colorful vegetables and savory sauces over rice, noodles or salad, plus appetizers, an Asian-inspired kids menu, and hand-crafted drinks.” ©Parkside Market Finally, there’s GG’s Chicken Shop, which will serve chicken sandwiches, salads, and classic dinner table sides. Here’s a peek at the menu; we can hardly pick a favorite! From the Original Fried Chicken Sandwich to the Ranch Fried Chicken Sandwich, there are some fun options here. ©Parkside Market This restaurant comes from the minds of the Boka Restaurant Group and — fun fact — was founded by James Beard Award-winning restaurateurs Rob Katz and Kevin Boehm, alongside Michelin Star Chef Partner Lee Wolen. Talk about the dream team! ©Parkside Market Don’t worry, fellow sauce lovers. You can get BBQ, Garlic Ranch, or even Honey Mustard sauce on the side. You know we’ll be loading up on that, thank you very much. ©Parkside Market While the Parkside Market website still lists this spot as “Opening Soon,” and we have yet to see an official opening date, we did notice that there were operating hours listed for each restaurant on the Disney website starting today. This could mean the restaurant is in a soft opening period, so keep your eyes peeled if you’re in the area! ©Disney We’ll make sure to keep you in the loop with any news from Disney about upcoming restaurants or additions in Downtown Disney. 9. Orlando is home to so many different theme parks for tourists to visit. Universal Orlando While many people mainly think of Disney World or Universal Orlando, there are also SeaWorld, Fun Spot America, and many other places for vacationers to check out. To stay up to date on the latest trends and to be competitive with different theme parks, these parks add new attractions, lands, and other offerings to draw more people in to visit their park. To keep up with the growing demand of tourism to Central Florida, a new theme park is set to open at one of these resorts in just a few months. Here is what you need to know about the new park and how it could affect one of its competitors. In May, Universal Orlando is set to open its third theme park (fourth if you count Universal’s water park, Volcano Bay.) This new park is called Epic Universe, and Universal has said that the park is “its most ambitious theme park yet.” The company also announced that “Epic Universe will present a level of theme park immersion and innovation that is unmatched – transporting guests to expansive worlds featuring more than 50 awe-inspiring attractions, entertainment, dining, and shopping experiences that come together to create an unforgettable adventure that is nothing short of epic.” ©Universal At the new park, you will be able to enter different portals and step into the worlds of five themed lands: Celestial Park, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic, SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, and Dark Universe. ©Universal Demand to be one of the first people to visit the park is high as Universal is limiting the way that tickets can be purchased to visit the park. Demand is high for good reason, as Universal has been teasing parts of the land. Recently, they shared a video of the new animatronics that will be in Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment, an attraction located in Dark Universe. ©Universal Along with the new theme park, Universal Helios Grand Hotel is set to open on the same day as Epic Universe does on May 22nd, 2025. This new hotel will allow guests to “enter a divine escape with dazzling views of Universal Epic Universe. Helios Grand Hotel is not the only new hotel joining the Universal Orlando Resort, as Universal Stella Nova Resort is set to open on January 21st, 2025, and Universal Terra Luna Resort is set to open on March 25th, 2025. ©Universal Universal’s new theme park is a big deal as many have criticized Disney World for building new lands by replacing and rebuilding rather than building a fifth gate. But It seems that the Walt Disney Company is not too concerned as Hugh Johnston, Senior Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer of The Walt Disney Company, said, “The early bookings that we have next summer are positive. The history of other non-Disney parks opening in Florida has been positive for Disney bookings” during the company’s Q4 earnings call in 2024. ©Disney | Walt Disney Company Headquarters The CEO of the Walt Disney Company, Bob Iger, commented during Q&A session at the MoffettNathanson Media, Internet & Communications Conference back in May of 2024 and said, “We’ve had competition for a long time. I’m mindful of what they’re doing, but I’m confident in what we’ve built and will continue to grow.” This just shows that Disney is very much aware of Universal’s Epic Universe, but they are confident in their future projects and land expansions rather than opening a fifth gate. Epic Universe We are so excited to experience Epic Universe when it opens later this year and are looking forward to the projects on the horizon at Disney World. To stay up to date on all the latest theme park news, make sure to continue to follow along with DFB! 3 Ways Epic Universe Will Beat Disney World Every Time Read more: DFB's complete guide to Universal’s Epic Universe >> Will you be taking a trip to Universal Orlando to check out Epic Universe? 10. California Governor Gavin Newsom issued an executive order that could have implications for Disneyland menus. Disneyland On Friday, California Governor Gavin Newsom issued an executive order cracking down on “ultra-processed foods” and food dyes. Let’s take a closer look at the contents of the executive order and its potential impact on Disney menus in the future. The executive order issued by Governor Newsom on Friday takes aim at “ultra-processed foods” and food dyes and their associated health risks. Banana Split Churro The order calls on various government agencies to take action with the aim of reducing the consumption of ultra-processed food and increasing access to healthy food options. What’s Included in the Executive Order? The executive order requires various government departments to take action, including: Providing recommendations about potential ways to limit the harms of ultra-processed foods Continuing work on the investigation into the health impacts of food dyes Providing ecommendations of actions to reduce the purchase of soda, candy, and other ultra-processed foods Adopting higher standards for healthy school meals Expanding access to healthy food and reducing the impact of “food deserts” Mickey Gingerbread Man In a statement, Newsom said, “The food we eat shouldn’t make us sick with disease or lead to lifelong consequences. California has been a leader for years in creating healthy and delicious school meals, and removing harmful ingredients and chemicals from food.” Candy He went on to say, “We’re going to work with the industry, consumers, and experts to crack down on ultra-processed foods, and create a healthier future for every Californian.” What Are Ultra-Processed Foods? With the focus on “ultra-processed foods,” let’s first take a look at what the term includes. According to Harvard Medical School, ultra-processed foods “are made mostly from substances extracted from foods, such as fats, starches, added sugars, and hydrogenated fats.” They may also include artificial colors and flavors. Candy in Magic Kingdom Some common examples of ultra-processed foods include fast food, packaged snack foods, frozen meals, hot dogs, soda, and other sugary beverages. In comparison, “processed foods” may contain added salt, sugar, or oil, and include items like homemade bread, peanut butter, applesauce, and canned vegetables. Wayfinder Dog Ultra-processed foods are associated with greater risks of obesity, which can lead to an increase in chronic health conditions. What Could Change in Disneyland? The executive order does not include a plan to ban ultra-processed foods. Instead, the Governor’s Office is looking for recommendations on actions the state can take to reduce their consumption. Chips This may include requiring a warning label on certain ultra-processed foods. If such a requirement is implemented, it could mean warning labels would be needed on certain packaged snacks and menus in Disneyland. Magic Kingdom Meal Governor Newsom also asked the California Department of Social Services to recommend ways the state can reduce the purchase of soda, candy, and other ultra-processed foods by April 1st, 2025. Any recommendations made by the agency could also have a downstream impact on Disneyland menus. Will Disney World Be Impacted? The executive order is specific to California, however, due to the state’s significant economic influence, it could lead to a crackdown on ultra-processed foods at a federal level. Mickey Ice-Cream Bar If California does require companies to change the way they label and package foods, those changes are likely to be seen all over the country, especially for national brands. Candy Bars Plus, with pledges from incoming Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to overhaul the nation’s food system, we can reasonably expect to see some shake-up on Disney menus on both coasts. We’ll be on the lookout for more specific requirements related to the executive order as decisions are made related to the requested recommendations, so stay tuned to DFB for the latest news! 11. If you’re looking to stay at a Disney World hotel, does it get any better than Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts? Yacht Club I mean, they’re iconic. They’re classy, they’re convenient, and they boast some serious perks (Stormalong Bay, anyone?). But what if I told you there’s a hidden gem in the EPCOT area that offers many of the same benefits (and maybe even some better ones) for hundreds less per night? It might just be the best-kept secret in the EPCOT resort area, and once this secret’s out, you might not want to stay at Yacht and Beach Club again. We’re talking about the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin. These two hotels are about to give Yacht and Beach Club a serious run for their money. Let’s break down why the Swan and Dolphin might just be the best-kept secret in the EPCOT resort area. Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Location, Location, Location First up: location. Staying at Yacht and Beach Club means you’re a short walk or boat ride away from EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Guess what? Swan and Dolphin offer the exact same convenience. These hotels are nestled right there on Crescent Lake, just steps from the BoardWalk. You can still stroll into EPCOT through the International Gateway or hop on a Friendship Boat to Hollywood Studios. It’s a beautiful resort! That means you’re getting all the benefits of staying in the EPCOT resort area – easy park access, scenic strolls, and a prime spot for fireworks viewing – without paying Yacht and Beach Club prices. Foodies, Rejoice One of the biggest draws of Yacht and Beach Club is their dining. Beaches & Cream is a fan favorite for its classic soda shop vibes and Kitchen Sink sundae, and Ale & Compass serves up elevated comfort food. But here’s the thing: the Swan and Dolphin absolutely hold their own in the food department, and, dare we say, they might even surpass Yacht and Beach Club. Shula’s Steak House At Swan and Dolphin, you’ve got: Shula’s Steak House, one of the best steakhouses in Disney World. Todd English’s bluezoo, a seafood lover’s paradise. Il Mulino, serving up incredible Italian cuisine. The Fountain, a hidden gem for ice cream and comfort food. Todd English’s bluezoo And that’s just scratching the surface. There are more than 20 restaurants and lounges between the two hotels, offering everything from upscale dining to quick bites. If you’re a foodie looking to explore world-class dining options, Swan and Dolphin have got you covered. Price Check: Yacht and Beach Club vs. Swan and Dolphin Let’s talk dollars and cents, because the price difference between these resorts is jaw-dropping. Depending on the time of year, a standard room at Yacht and Beach Club can easily set you back $600–$800 per night. Meanwhile, rooms at Swan and Dolphin typically hover between $250–$400 per night. That’s a difference of several hundred dollars for essentially the same location and amenities. Swan and Dolphin Think about what you could do with that extra cash. More park snacks? Fancy dinners? A VIP tour splurge? The possibilities are endless, and suddenly staying at Swan and Dolphin feels like the ultimate Disney hack. Disney Perks Without the Price Tag One of the reasons many guests stick with Disney-owned resorts is the extra perks. Things like Early Theme Park Entry and access to Extended Evening Hours can make a big difference when it comes to maximizing your park days. Good news! The Swan and Dolphin are included in these perks! Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin at night That’s right! You’ll still get access to early entry and those glorious late-night hours, just like you would at Yacht and Beach Club. Plus, the Swan and Dolphin offer complimentary transportation to the parks, including buses and boats. But Wait, What About Stormalong Bay? Okay, we hear you. Stormalong Bay is a big deal. It’s basically a mini water park with a sand-bottom pool, lazy river, and a killer water slide. We’re not going to argue that the Swan and Dolphin’s pools can compete with that level of awesomeness. Stormalong Bay at Disney’s Beach Club But here’s the thing: If you’re not a pool person or don’t plan to spend much time at the hotel during your trip, is Stormalong Bay really worth the extra $300+ per night? Pool and the Swan and Dolphin At the end of the day, the Swan and Dolphin pools are still plenty nice, with beautiful landscaping, plenty of seating, and more, which is all you need if you’re primarily spending your time at the parks. Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin So, there you have it. Between the unbeatable location, incredible dining options, and major cost savings, these hotels offer so much value that you might now find it a bit hard to justify shelling out for Yacht and Beach Club. Now that the word’s out about this Disney resort hack, you might want to grab a reservation before everyone else catches on. In the meantime, keep it right here for all the latest Disney news! 13. In about one month, it will be time for The Walt Disney Company to share some big news. If you’ve got questions about the future of Disney, you’re not alone. But what will Disney reveal this time? We can’t wait to find out! Magic Kingdom From upcoming movie premieres to major theme park construction projects, there is a LOT happening in 2025. Will Disney share any updates about these projects? We’ve been doing this for a long time, so at this point, we have a few pretty good guesses about what’s going to happen on February 5th, 2025. Here’s what we’re expecting. Recently, Disney confirmed that The Walt Disney Company will host a live Q&A webcast to discuss fiscal first quarter 2025 financial results. That’s right — it’s time for the first earnings call of 2025! The event will happen bright and early on February 5th, 2025, so be prepared for some breaking Disney news to start your morning. EPCOT Now, as we said, we’ve been doing this for a long time. We’ve tuned in to dozens of earnings calls, and most follow a simple format. Disney executives typically cover the company’s overall financial results for the quarter, touch on the latest Disney+ streaming goals, speak about the Disney Experiences division (a.k.a. the parks and resorts), share the latest ESPN news, and mention any box office wins or losses. See what Disney revealed at its last earnings call in 2024! This year, we expect an update on the box office success of Moana 2 and Mufasa, which both premiered in the winter. It seems like both movies have had a successful run in theaters, and we anticipate Disney CEO Bob Iger will comment on the data. ©Disney Disney may bring up a few “wild card” topics as well. During the Q & A portion of the earnings call, Disney may face questions about Universal Orlando’s upcoming Epic Universe park. In the past, Iger has stated, “We’ve had competition for a long time. I’m mindful of what they’re doing, but I’m confident in what we’ve built and will continue to grow.” Now that the Epic Universe opening date is approaching, is Disney doing anything to respond to the competition? ©Universal Iger may also comment on the ongoing hunt for the next Disney CEO. Disney previously confirmed that Bob Iger’s successor will be revealed in early 2026, the same year Iger’s contract ends. There has been a LOT of speculation about who will replace Iger, but Disney has kept quiet about its CEO selection process. New Report Reveals TWO Frontrunners for Disney’s Next CEO As you can see, there will be all kinds of Disney news! Whether you’re an ESPN fan or you’re hoping to learn more about what’s next for Disney World, we’re hoping Disney shares some good news this year. In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more. If you can help it, we always recommend avoiding the first or last weekends of a festival as it tends to be super crowded, and lines for merchandise and food booths can be long. Festival of the Arts merchandise crowds Make a Game Plan It is always a good idea to set expectations during your trip to Disney World, and the same goes for visiting the Festival of the Arts. On top of downloading the DFB Guide to the EPCOT Festival of the Arts 2025, you can actually view the festival passport on your My Disney Experience app before getting your physical copy at the park. This is a great way to map out everything you want to see and do so that you have an idea of the festival layout and get an understanding of your party’s needs. Festival Passport Enjoy the Live Entertainment The Festival of the Arts is all about celebrating all different types of art forms. On top of trying colorful dishes at the food booths, you can check out artwork and sometimes even meet the artist, watch live Broadway Musical performances at the America Gardens Theatre, watch chalk artists in action, and so much more! Live Entertainment Plus, this year, CommuniCore Hall will be home to a brand-new exhibit called Once Upon A Stage: 30 Years of Disney on Broadway. Here, you will be able to “experience the magic of Broadway both on and off the stage in this walkthrough exhibit celebrating three decades of Disney on Broadway. Discover costumes and props from your favorite stage musicals.” ©Disney Become an Artist at the Animation Academy If you have ever wanted to become a Disney animator, during the Festival of the Arts, you can participate in the Animation Academy at the America Gardens Theatre. Animation Academy from 2022 This experience is offered before Disney on Broadway takes the stage. You can participate at 12:30 and 1:30PM, allowing you the chance to learn to draw Disney characters from featured Disney artists like Luke Consolo, Matthew Dewater, Justin Dring, Will Gay, and more! 2024 Animation Academy Participate in the Wonderful Walk of Colorful Cuisine If you don’t know what to try at the festival, you can participate in the Wonderful Walk of Colorful Cusine. Simply pick up your festival passport and get it stamped by ordering one of the participating menu items. Once your passport is filled, you can redeem it for a free festival treat! 2024 Wonderful Walk of Colorful Cuisine Split Dishes There are so many different foods and drinks that you can try at each of the food booths around the park. While these portions are smaller, it is not a bad idea to split food with your party so that way you can try more food offerings. It is never a bad idea to split food to try more! Set a Budget While splitting dishes can help with your budget, setting a budget can help set expectations for the day. On average, food dishes are between $5-$9, so let’s say about $7. Festival of the Arts 2023 A great way to stick to your budget is by purchasing a festival gift card. They come in specialty festival designs and include a wristband so you can keep the gift card handy. 2024 Festival of the Arts Wristlet Gift Card Make sure to keep these eight things in mind before you attend this year’s EPCOT International Festival of the Arts. 17. We are nearing the closing date of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad for its extended refurbishment closure at Magic Kingdom! Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and the massive construction crane The popular roller coaster will close on January 6th and is set to reopen again in 2026. Disney hasn’t provided an official opening date but has only stated, “The attraction will reopen with a little bit of new magic in 2026.” However, we may have found a clue about a more concrete timeline. Disney filed a new Notice of Commencement on January 3rd, 2025, for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. The document is for general construction to be done by Coast Steel Inc. of Lake Buena Vista, Florida. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad What we found most interesting is that the expiration date on the Notice of Commencement is March 13th, 2026. Usually, these permits expire one year after they are recorded unless a different date is specified. In this case, the date of March 13th, 2026, was specified, leading us to believe this closure may last until the spring of 2026. A crane has already shown up behind Big Thunder Mountain Railroad As far as the updates and changes coming to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, we’re not sure what to expect yet. Disney has said it will “reopen with a little of new magic,” and we’re excited to see what that may be! It is also possible that this ride is being closed for so long due to other construction taking place around it. Disney’s new Villains Land is getting constructed beyond Big Thunder, while the two new Cars attractions will be taking the place of Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island. These two large constructions may have an impact on Big Thunder in the same way that TRON Lightcycle / Run kept the Walt Disney World Railroad closed for four years while it was being built. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad There’s only a short amount of time left to ride Big Thunder Mountain Railroad before it closes for its extended refurbishment. You don’t want to miss out on your last chance to ride the “Wildest Ride in the Wilderness!” For more Disney news, keep following DFB! 18. Disney princesses are arguably some of Disney’s most iconic characters. Cinderella There are so many princess-themed experiences all around Disney World, including meet and greets, character dining, the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, and even Cinderella has her own castle in the heart of the Magic Kingdom. Many children, as well as kids at heart, dream of becoming a Disney Princess, but a new study shows that maybe you should avoid that dream. Now, we are not here to crush any dreams because we love the Disney princesses and their stories, but a new study done by Sanne H B van Dijk and colleagues argues that the Disney Princesses raise concerns not only about stereotyping but also about princesses’ health. Belle All fairytales can contribute to raising concerns about stereotyping, but The Walt Disney Company has done a lot to increase the popularity of its movies. According to the study, “these films captivate young viewers, but they also raise concerns about stereotyping.” There are “unrealistic portrayals of relationships, as well as impossible beauty standards such as unnatural waist-to-hip ratios, that can negatively impact girls’ self-esteem.” While the research to date has focused on the effects of the health of the viewer, Sanne H B van Dijk and colleagues say that future research should “consider threats to the health of Disney princesses.” Mulan The study says that “Disney princesses face serious real-world health hazards. Surprisingly, however, despite these risks, they seem to live happily ever after.” The study argues that Disney needs to start to think about how to overcome these health challenges rather than rushing into a happily ever after. So how can this be done? There needs to be strategies to improve their stories, which can include “mindfulness and psychotherapy, training on cohabitation with animals, and personal protection measures against infectious agents and toxic particles. Only then can Disney princesses start living healthily ever after.” Sleeping Beauty The study examines the stories of eight different Disney princesses and how their stories affect their health. Take Snow White, for example; her social interaction is extremely limited. Although it may sound like a stretch, the study states that there is a “positive association between lack of social interaction and cardiovascular disease, depression, anxiety, and all-cause mortality.” Snow White meets the Seven Dwarfs, which helps with her solitude, but then ends up eating a poisoned apple, which puts her in a “sleeping death.” Oddly enough, this goes against the classic saying that “an apple a day keeps the doctor away.” Snow White Another example is Rapunzel. She is known for her lengthy hair, but having a braid so long that it is used as an elevator cable can cause severe damage. The study says that “Rapunzel’s hair follicles are likely to have been damaged from repetitive, excessive pulling, a condition known as traction alopecia.” In the long run, this can lead to permanent hair loss, as well as scalp pain and headaches. It does not sound very fairytale-esque, now does it? Hi, Punzie! While many dream about becoming a Disney princess, the films seem to skip over the actual consequences of some of their actions and cards that they have been dealt and instead rush them into a happily ever after. So maybe becoming a Disney princess is not as great as you would think. 19. One of our biggest complaints about many Disney World quick service restaurants is that so many just don’t have enough seating. Toy Story Land So, yes, we’ve had to eat on the tops of trash cans even outside of EPCOT festivals because we couldn’t find anywhere to eat our lunch. So imagine our surprise when a popular Disney World restaurant, Woody’s Lunch Box in Toy Story Land in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, decided to demolish its entire seating area last year and we had to sit behind the restaurant near the entrance to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Well, now, part of the seating area at Woody’s Lunch Box has officially reopened. Last September, we walked into to Toy Story Land only to notice that the seating area for Woody’s Lunch Box had been demolished. Well, our hopes were that Disney was just improving the seating area because, well, it needed it. It was always a bit tricky trying to find a table there (and often, the table you could find was a standing one — ew). Now, part of that seating area has reopened. Seating is back Here’s the thing — we’re not seeing any BIG changes to the seating area just yet. We still see a lack of shade in some spots, and those standing tables are still there (please, Disney, just NO). Woody’s Lunch Box seating We guess we should just be happy that the seating area has returned in some capacity. We’ll have to see what happens when the entire seating area reopens to see what kind of changes might have been made (for all we know, it was just a repaving job or something). It’s back! 21. When one goes to Magic Kingdom, one has to take advantage of the good eats at the park. Full Spread And speaking of good eats, we knew we were good for a hearty meal that we could seriously chow down on – one that could potentially have us rolling out in a wheelbarrow. And we knew exactly where we had to go and we’re taking you along with us for the ride. Located in Liberty Square, The Diamond Horseshoe has a rich history that blends into the park’s old-timey, Americana vibe. It’s designed to evoke the Wild West saloons of yesteryear, where cowboys would gather for a hearty meal and some entertainment. The restaurant serves up a themed dining experience with unlimited servings of classic American holiday favorites. Think Thanksgiving dinner, but with Disney flair. Diamond Horseshoe As always, reservations are highly recommended, especially during peak park seasons. Atmosphere Let’s talk about the vibe, shall we? The Diamond Horseshoe feels like stepping back in time to an old-school saloon, complete with polished wood floors, ornate chandeliers, and an upper balcony that gives it a theater-like feel. It’s casual yet immersive, striking that balance between park dining and themed experience. The Diamond Horseshoe That said, not everything hits the mark. The seating can be a bit uncomfortable, especially if you’re someone who likes to adjust your chair to find the perfect position. You know those rubber chair caps that prevent sliding? Yeah, they’re not winning any fans here. If you’re sensitive to seating or need a bit more room, you might find yourself shifting uncomfortably throughout the meal. The Diamond Horseshoe On the plus side, the servers are delightful, and the general energy in the restaurant feels warm and welcoming. They even joked about having wheelbarrows in the back to roll us out after we stuffed ourselves. Sadly, no wheelbarrows actually appeared, but points for the effort. Menu The experience is an all-you-care-to-enjoy one that includes turkey, pot roast, pork, and a slew of sides served family-style, along with desserts that cater to even the sweetest sweet tooth. It will run you $44 per adult and $24 per child. The Diamond Horseshoe Menu And yes, if you’re plant-based, there are options for you too. The Diamond Horseshoe Menu You’ll also find plenty of options should you be in the mood for an alcoholic drink like their specialty drinks, beer, and wine. Eats Now, onto the main event: the food. The Diamond Horseshoe serves a set menu family-style, so you don’t have to make tough decisions. And yes, they serve the same food as Liberty Tree Tavern. So if you were hoping to eat at Liberty Tree but couldn’t get a reservation, just snag one for Diamond Horseshoe!! Here’s what we thought about each dish: Starters Rolls Let’s start with the rolls because, let’s be honest, rolls set the tone for the meal. These are divine. They’re soft, fluffy, and have a slight sweetness that pairs perfectly with the garlic butter topping. The Diamond Horseshoe They’re basically the love child of a holiday dinner roll and a buttery garlic knot. They’re quite dangerous, because you’ll want to fill up on these before the main course arrives. The Diamond Horseshoe For plant-based diners, the vegan rolls are equally addictive – so good, in fact that you won’t even miss the butter. Salad The salad is fresh and surprisingly delightful. A mix of spring greens, dried cranberries, thinly sliced radishes, diced apples, and white cheddar cheese, all tossed in a sweet vinaigrette. The Diamond Horseshoe It’s a crowd-pleaser – simple, balanced, and kid-friendly without being boring. Main Course – Saloon Feast Full Spread Pot Roast The standout star of the meal. This pot roast is tender, flavorful, and swimming in a savory au jus that tastes like it’s been simmering all day. The Diamond Horseshoe It’s well-seasoned without being overly salty, with just a hint of onion and black pepper. If you only had one thing to eat here, make it the pot roast. Turkey The turkey is another solid option. It’s moist with a delicate herb butter that enhances its flavor without overpowering it. The Diamond Horseshoe You don’t have to worry that this one is one of those dry turkey stereotypes. This one delivers. Oven-Roasted Pork Unfortunately, the pork didn’t hold its own. It was dry, and the mushroom gravy meant to save it just fell flat. The Diamond Horseshoe If you’re ranking the meats, this one comes in last. Not terrible, but not memorable either. Impossible Meatloaf We also had the plant-based option – the Impossible Meatloaf. The Diamond Horseshoe It was also a stand-out for us with it’s fantastic combinations of flavors – salty, tangy, and vinegary flavors. You’ll want seconds of this. Mashed Potatoes Never change, Disney mashed potatoes. These are creamy, buttery, and have a subtle tang from sour cream. The Diamond Horseshoe They’re comfort food perfection and need no extra seasoning or gravy to shine. Stuffing Stuffing is always a gamble because everyone’s grandma makes it differently. Diamond Horseshoe’s version plays it safe with classic poultry seasoning flavors of sage and thyme, plus hints of onion and celery. The Diamond Horseshoe It’s nostalgic and satisfying – just don’t expect anything groundbreaking. Green Beans The green beans are cooked al dente, which is a relief because no one likes mushy veggies. The Diamond Horseshoe They’re tossed in garlic and seasoning, but they could use a bit more oomph. Not bad, but not the scene-stealer of the table. Macaroni and Cheese The mac and cheese sparked some debate. While it’s a definite hit for kids and those looking for comfort food, it lacked the creaminess we remembered from our many times dining at Liberty Tree Tavern. The Diamond Horseshoe This batch felt a bit dry, like it was scraped from the bottom of the pan. Still tasty, but not its usual show-stopping self. Cranberry Sauce This isn’t your average cranberry sauce. It’s a cross between traditional cranberry sauce and apple butter – sweet, tangy, and packed with flavor. The Diamond Horseshoe It pairs beautifully with the turkey and stuffing, but honestly, we could eat it by the spoonful. Desserts and Drinks Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake The dessert included in your meal is the famous ooey gooey toffee cake, and yes, it’s as rich and decadent as it sounds. It’s warm, sticky, and paired with vanilla bean ice cream. The Diamond Horseshoe Be warned – while we love it, it’s extremely sweet, so if you’re looking for a lighter finish, you might want to skip this and go for the next item. Tavern Punch This is where things get fun. The Tavern Punch is essentially Dole Whip spun into a slushy and topped with Sprite. The Diamond Horseshoe It’s light, refreshing, and an absolute must for Dole Whip enthusiasts. If you’re not into heavy desserts, this is the perfect way to end the meal. Plant-Based Apple Cake This one’s a miss. While the cake itself is delicious, the caramel sauce and coconut cream topping just didn’t work. The Diamond Horseshoe The caramel was bitter and had a strange aftertaste, which clashed with the otherwise enjoyable cake. Stick to the toffee cake or the punch if you want to end on a high note. Overall Overall, the Diamond Horseshoe is a solid choice for a hearty, comforting meal in Magic Kingdom, but it’s not without its flaws. The Diamond Horseshoe If you go in knowing what to expect and lean into the best dishes, you’re bound to leave happy – and maybe in need of that wheelbarrow after all. Nosh or Not? Spend an evening at the Diamond Horseshoe if… You’re looking for comfort food galore. The rolls, mashed potatoes, and pot roast are probably worth the visit alone Wanting a Family-Friendly Atmosphere. The menu and vibe are perfect for families with kids or anyone looking for a relaxed dining experience. The Tavern Punch. This Dole Whip creation is a must-try for fans of unique Disney drinks. You couldn’t get a reservation at Liberty Tree Tavern We’d recommend another Disney World restaurant if… You’re looking for the most comfortable seats. Those bentwood chairs can be a dealbreaker if comfort is a priority. You’re looking for an amazing plant-based dessert. If you’re plant-based, the Apple Cake isn’t the sweet ending you’re hoping for. You’re wanting your whole meal to be top tier. While some items shine (pot roast and rolls), others like the pork and mac and cheese feel like an afterthought. 24. I’ve worked at DFB for a while now, and I’ve had some absolutely wild days at my job. Lydia in EPCOT’s Tiny Train Town From the kickoff of holiday parties and festivals to super fun media events or interviews with important people in the Disney sphere, this has definitely been my dream job! And getting to visit the parks as often as I do is a huge blessing. But today, I’m here to tell you about a day of work that was shockingly fun, even though I had to ride Disney transportation TWELVE times. Back in November 2024, I kicked off a day of work by parking at the Transportation and Ticket Center, where I first hopped on the tram from the parking lot to get to security (transportation offering numero uno!). My checklist for the day included a stop at Magic Kingdom and a visit to the Grand Floridian to capture the newly installed holiday decorations. Magic Kingdom tram Well, with the decor up at Grand Floridian, why not check to see if the Polynesian Village Resort was decorated for Christmas as well? And wouldn’t ya know it, my hunch was right! For my first stop, I covered the holiday decor at the tropical resort, but then had to leave pretty quickly when something important came up to cover at Magic Kingdom. The tree was up! After my Magic Kingdom stop, I ended up traveling to the Contemporary Resort and Wilderness Lodge to check out their holiday decorations (Wilderness Lodge was my first strikeout of the day), and then finally made my way back to the Grand Floridian to take in its glorious 12 Days of Christmas-themed tree. By that point, I’d used Disney transportation 7 times, including rides on Friendship Boats, the Monorail, and the parking lot tram. Tree at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort My last stop for the day was a visit to Animal Kingdom Lodge, so I took the Monorail BACK to Magic Kingdom, then rode the bus back and forth from the hotel. A ride on the Express Monorail to the Transportation and Ticket Center, followed by another jaunt on the tram brought my total transportation rides up to 12 for the day. Good grief! (And we didn’t even touch the Ferryboat or the Disney Skyliner!) Magic Kingdom Express Monorail But with all that traveling back and forth, what actually made this “one of my best days of work ever?” Well, it ended up reminding me how much I love exploring the Disney Resorts! I most often get to spend my work days in the parks, sometimes visiting one or two hotels in a day, but during this particular work day, I got to spend a few hours wandering the grounds of some stunning hotels and enjoying relaxing rides on resort transportation (I particularly love a good boat ride). It also helped that I got to capture several Christmas trees and enjoy some stunning decor — I’m a big Christmas girlie! Disney’s Contemporary Hotel So what can this mean for your vacation? Well, don’t write off the resorts when you’re coming to stay in Disney World! You could spend an entire day just hotel hopping and have an absolutely lovely time, especially during the holiday season. Each resort has its own unique theme, offerings, dining, and atmosphere to enjoy, and after a few long days in the parks, doing something low-key can be SO relaxing. If I’d had extra time in my day, I might’ve booked a dining reservation at a hotel restaurant or attempted to use the other forms of transportation that I didn’t get to try. Wilderness Lodge Ultimately, it’s the under-the-radar things that often make a Disney World visit extra special! For me, that was taking hundreds of pictures of Christmas trees and being tempted to change my permanent address to the Resort Monorail. Even on a day by myself, I got to enjoy some underappreciated Disney magic! Riviera Resort So there you have it — a way that you can have an absolutely amazing day in Disney World, and you can even do it for FREE. (If you’re not an Annual Passholder and you want to resort hop, I recommend parking at Disney Springs and taking a bus to your hotel of choice.) 25. We are here to listen! Magic Kingdom We are Disney experts who spend almost all our time creating the Ultimate Guide to Disney World. We have done scientific research on the newest food trends, the best restaurants, and the best rides to help prepare you for your next trip. Now we’re back to talk about the worst Disney hotel problems! Before we start, huge disclaimer! We aren’t real therapists and this isn’t actual medical advice. We’re just a bunch of Disney adults who love anything theme park related and want to help people create their most special vacations possible. We also like to do it in a fun way so today we are faux Disney therapists and we’re here to listen and help solve your Disney problems. Magic Kingdom Noisy Hotels Staying at a Disney World resort hotel might be one of our favorite things in the world. There are so many perks like the free Disney dining plan, free water park access, complimentary transportation, and more! However, not everything is all magic and pixie dust starting off with how noisy it can be at certain Disney hotels. All-Star Movies Disney Value Resorts are great thanks to the price and theming when you’re staying on Disney property. It’s one of the most affordable options in Disney but they’re also very big resorts which means lots of people. We have had many experiences in the past where the noise has been a problem when trying to sleep or relax at these resorts. It’s something we try to warn people about before they stay at any of these hotels but this shouldn’t be a deal breaker! These therapists have some solutions. Pop Century Value Resort Bringing ear plugs or a white noise machine can help block out the crowds when it’s time to start sleeping at these resorts. Many Disney resorts sell ear plugs and if you’re trying to save a bit of cash, music apps like Spotify have several different white noise playlists that you can use to help block out the noise. Hotel gift shops offer select medicines Lack of Late Night Dining The next complaint we see often is the lack of late night dining around the resort! This is another problem we have personally run into and it’s put us in some pretty tough spots at times. World Premiere Food Court Disney World as a company operates on a 24 hour schedule which is how they decorate the parks over night and prepare for crowds in between park hours. They do not, however, offer 24 hour dining which seems to be a common misconception. Many Disney World restaurants like World Premiere Food Court at All Star Movies closes at 11 PM. You’ll find standard fare at the All-Star Resorts food courts. Park hours vary throughout the year but Magic Kingdom closes around 11 PM many nights during the year which means if you’re staying until the parks close, the food courts will be close by the time you get back to your resort. There are very few places in Disney World that stay open after 11 PM and many of those options are lounges which may or may not have food that will satisfy your group. So what’s the solution? One is finding the late night dining menus! ©Disney One example of late night dining is Capt. Cook’s over at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. From 11 pm to 12 am, you can find a limited menu of flatbreads and grab-and-go snacks which still might not satisfy everyone but it is an option. Korean Fried Chicken Bowl It only gives you an extra hour of dining so our other option is bring your own snacks! Planning ahead and bringing your own snacks or utilizing grocery delivery services like Kroger can help avoid those late night munchies. Kroger Delivery Transportation Woes Finally, as professional Disney therapists who do not have medical licenses, we have found that a common Disney hotel problem is not understanding what transportation options your resort offers. There are several different types of transportation around Disney World like the monorail, the skyliner, busses, boats, and Minnie Vans. Everything except for the Minnie Vans are complimentary but they aren’t available at every single resort. Disney Bus For many resorts, the only transportation option is a Disney bus! We love a good ole’ Disney bus but we won’t lie and say it’s the most convenient of all the transportation options. We have heard stories many times of people being so excited to hop on the monorail at their resort only to discover the monorail only goes to Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, the Grand Floridian, the Contemporary, and the Polynesian. Disney World Monorail Research, BBY! So what’s the solution here? Research your resort! The best way to avoid any confusion is to do a deep dive into everything your resort offers before you book your stay. If you want to stay somewhere that has access to the Skyliner, you can find that list here. Skyliner at Caribbean Beach Resort So as your official Disney World therapist, we hope today’s session has helped! Next week we’ll talk about how Dinosaur in Animal Kingdom has impacted your reoccurring nightmares.
