Acclaimed actress Linda Lavin has passed away unexpectedly at the age of age of 87. ©Netflix Lavin, best known for her starring role on the classic sitcom Alice – – for which she was nominated for an Emmy and two Golden Globes – – passed “unexpectedly due to complications from recently discovered lung cancer” according to what one of her PR representatives told Deadline. Beyond Alice, Lavin had a long and successful stage career. After beginning her Broadway career with a role in the comic book musical It’s a Bird…It’s a Plane…It’s Superman, Lavin earned acclaim for roles in the plays Little Murders and Last of the Red Hot Lovers, the latter of which earned her the first of her respective three Drama Desk Award and six Tony Award nominations. She would eventually win a Tony for Broadway Bound in 1987 and was inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame in 2010. Lavin also found great success in television and film. Beyond her aforementioned title role on Alice, she had a recurring role on Barney Miller in the 1970s, and worked steadily since, including appearing on CBS’s Elsbeth and Netflix’s No Good Deed just this year. ©CBS At the time of her death, Lavin was in the midst of production of Mid-Century Modern, a Hulu series that costarred Nathan Lane, Matt Bomer and Nathan Lee Graham. According to Deadline, the series had filmed 7 of its 10-episode order before the holiday break. According to the outlet, it’s “unclear how the show will proceed without one of its leads.” Hulu and 20th Television, the studio behind Mid-Century Modern, issued a joint statement following Lavin’s passing, which read in part, “Our deepest and heartfelt condolences go to Linda Lavin’s family and loved ones,” the companies said. “She was a legend in our industry, bringing her tremendous talent to audiences for over seven decades. She will be forever missed by her Mid-Century Modern family, as we mourn this incredible loss together.” ©Hulu In addition to Hulu and 20th Television, numerous celebrities and Hollywood figures have begun sharing condolences for Lavin on social media. For example, No Good Deed creator Liz Feldman posted a lengthy statement on Instagram, which read “Getting to work with you once was an honor and a joy. I loved writing for you on 9JKL all those years ago. I just loved YOU. Being around you. In your magnetic orbit. That we got to collaborate again on No Good Deed was simply a gift. You were, as always, incredibly gracious, totally hilarious and pitch perfect. Ready to play and full of life. Your warmth and kindness was unparalleled. I just loved you. We all did. I’m so glad I got to see you a few weeks ago at the premiere and introduce you to my parents. They were thrilled to meet you. And my father made it very clear to me that you were his favorite part of No Good Deed. He wasn’t the only one who felt that way. Thank you for letting me into your stunning orbit. And for allowing me to spin with you for a while.” Our thoughts are with Linda Lavin’s loved ones at this time. The Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotels and Swan Reserve Hotel are located right on the Disney World Resort near both Hollywood Studios and EPCOT. Swan & Dolphin The three hotels offer several perks that are the same as Disney World Deluxe hotels, but you’ll often pay a lower price for your stay. They offer free transportation to the parks and are within walking distance to Hollywood Studios and EPCOT (or you can catch a boat to these parks!). Inside the hotels are also some great places to grab some delicious food, such as Shula’s Steakhouse, The Fountain, Amare, and more. Recently, one signature dining location at the Swan just won an exciting award! Kimonos is a top-rated sushi restaurant located at the Walt Disney World Swan Hotel. You’ll dine on traditional hors d’oeuvres, gyoza, octopus, shrimp, tempura platters, and Kobe beef satay. Kimonos Inside the restaurant, you’ll find an intimate Japanese-influenced atmosphere with colorful kimonos. It’s a decadent experience that many people from Orlando and international locations enjoy. And now, it has won another award to add to its list. Kimonos OpenTable has named Kimonos the awardee of the Diners’ Choice Award for 2024! This award is based on verified feedback on OpenTable from diners for restaurants they have been seated on through OpenTable. According to OpenTable, “Diners provide star ratings and can select from a list of characteristics to describe their restaurant experience.” via Swan & Dolphin on Instagram The OpenTable website states, “Restaurants must meet a minimum threshold of reviews to be eligible for a Diners’ Choice Award. An overall rating of 4 or more stars is also required for the National lists and 3 or more stars for the Metro and Regional lists.” Along with the overall rating, the restaurants must meet the following minimum criteria: Star Rating Categories: Restaurants are ranked based on their average star rating within each category. Categories include Best Overall, Best Service, Best Ambiance, Best Food, and Best Value. Cuisine Categories: Restaurants are ranked based on their average food rating. For instance, for the Best Italian category, all Italian restaurants that meet the eligibility thresholds are ranked based on their average rating for food. Example categories include Best Italian, Best Chinese, Best Seafood, and Best International Food. Diner Feedback Form Categories: Rewards are given based on the feedback that diners select when leaving a review of their reservation. Category examples include Romantic, Great for outdoor dining, and Great for brunch. Geographic Categories – National Diners’ Choice lists are based on the last 365 days of reviews. Metro and Regional Diners’ Choice lists are based on the last 120 days of reviews, and Most Booked Diners’ Choice lists are based on the last 30 days of reviews. Most Booked Categories: Restaurants are ranked based on the highest number of reservations made, including reservations that are Pending, Seated, Assumed Seated, and Seated Disputed. The date the reservation is created is used to determine the number of reservations. via Swan & Dolphin on Instagram It’s an exciting honor for Kimonos to have won this award! If you’re looking for some great sushi, you won’t want to miss stopping at the Swan to try Kimonos. You’ll also find several other great dining options at the three Swan & Dolphin hotels. Plus, if you’re considering a stay at one of these hotels, remember that they are Marriott hotels, so you can use and earn Marriott Bonvoy Reward points with your stay. These are great places to consider when planning your next trip. As 2024 comes to an end, we can’t help but reflect on everything that happened in Disney World this year. Mickey Pretzel Okay, what we really can’t help reflecting on are all the delicious eats and drinks we tried in Disney World this year! We discovered new restaurants, and new snacks, and even said goodbye to some of our favorites. But, 2024 isn’t over quite yet which means we’ve got one final snack to try as we usher in the New Year! We headed on over to Pizzafari at Disney’s Animal Kingdom to grab the New Year’s 2025 Cupcake for $6.29! This is a chocolate cupcake with cherry filling, almond frosting, chocolate crispy pearls, and a chocolate 2025 decoration on top. If this cupcake looks familiar to you, you’d be correct! Disney releases a version of this cupcake every year, and we try it… every year! New Year’s 2025 Cupcake We’re not kidding — here’s the 2024 version… New Year’s 2024 Cupcake …the 2023 version… New Year’s 2023 Cupcake …the 2022 version… New Year’s 2022 Cupcake …and the 2021 version. We think you get the idea! New Year’s 2021 Cupcake But, how does the 2025 version of the cupcake taste?! We can definitely see why this cupcake has still stood the test of time. It’s a very moist, chocolate cupcake, which really isn’t anything to write home about. What we really love about it is that cherry filling — you’ve got the cherry pieces along with that pie-like glaze, so it’s almost like a black cherry feel when paired with the chocolate. Cherry filling inside the cupcake The whipped topping is really supposed to be like an almond flavor, but it kind of gets lost in all the cherry and chocolatey flavors, though the crisp pearls are a fun addition. They’re coated in colored chocolate so they may stain your fingers if you handle them too much, but overall this is just a nice fun treat. It tastes great thanks to the chocolate and cherry, and there’s a reason we get it again and again! YUM One thing is for sure, we can’t wait to see what 2025 has in store for Disney World and we’ll be keeping an eye out for the latest news and more! I need to talk about something I just learned that has totally rocked my world — Rogue waves. Yup, you heard that right. ©Royal Caribbean I go on a lot of cruises — some for work (like a recent trip on the brand new Disney Treasure cruise ship), and some for pleasure. But now, I discovered that these enormous, freak waves can occur out of nowhere, and I’m wondering if I should second-guess my entire vacation. Let me back up a bit. My family takes an annual holiday cruise. And by my family, I’m talking 20+ people, three generations, 10 cabins. If you ask me, it’s one of the smartest things we’ve ever done. We buy ZERO holiday presents. We wrap nothing. We don’t buy a bunch of stuff no one needs. This year’s cruise has been on the books for months. But after reading a *really* unsettling article about rogue waves—thanks to a recent incident that made headlines—I’ve had family members asking if we should rethink the whole thing. The Royal Caribbean Rogue Wave Incident: What Happened? So here’s the deal. Recently, a Royal Caribbean ship, the Anthem of the Seas, was hit by a rogue wave in the North Atlantic, and the damage was extensive. Passengers aboard the ship reported feeling the ship tilt dramatically as the massive wave rocked the vessel. The 30-foot waves caused windows to break, balconies to be damaged, and some of the ship’s upper-level areas to sustain serious harm. Thankfully, there were no reported fatalities, but the incident definitely had people questioning what exactly happened. ©Royal Caribbean Now, before you start panicking, let me just say: Rogue waves are very, very rare. They’re not something you’ll encounter on every cruise, but when they do occur, they can be intense and dangerous. These waves are so large that they can seemingly appear out of nowhere, often much larger than surrounding waves. And no, they’re not the same as the regular big waves we might expect during rough seas—rogue waves are significantly more dangerous and unpredictable. Okay, But Are Rogue Waves Really That Common? Here’s the good news: Rogue waves are extremely rare. According to experts, there’s only about a 1 in 100 chance of encountering one on any given cruise. And modern ships are designed to handle tough weather conditions and rough seas. So while it’s something to be aware of, it’s also something that’s very unlikely to happen on your average cruise. Still, I’ll be the first to admit that it’s hard to shake the thought once you’ve heard about it! What Can You Do to Stay Safe on a Cruise? Here are some safety tips that can help put your mind at ease and ensure a safer cruise vacation for everyone. 1. Stay Informed: When booking your cruise, be sure to keep up with weather reports and any warnings issued by your cruise line. If you’re sailing through regions known for rough seas, it’s a good idea to stay updated on the forecast. Cruise ships are equipped with the latest weather technology, so they’ll know if things are getting dicey. 2. Know the Ship’s Safety Features: Cruise ships are designed with safety in mind, and crew members are highly trained to handle situations like extreme weather. Familiarize yourself with the safety drills and evacuation procedures before you embark. Knowing what to do in case of an emergency can give you peace of mind, especially with a big group like my family. 3. Choose Your Ship and Itinerary Wisely: Some cruise ships are built for rough seas, and these tend to be better equipped to deal with rough weather conditions. If you’re worried about rogue waves, consider booking a cruise on a larger ship or one that follows calmer routes. Luckily, our Caribbean cruise will likely avoid the rougher North Atlantic, so we’re good to go! 4. Stay Inside During Rough Seas: If you’re cruising through areas that might experience choppy waters or bad weather, stay inside the ship during storms. Don’t go out on deck during rough seas unless it’s absolutely necessary. The crew will usually advise passengers of any precautions you should take during extreme weather. 5. Follow the Crew’s Instructions: Above all, listen to the crew! In the event of a sudden weather change, they will guide you through the safest actions. Follow all their instructions carefully—they are there to keep everyone safe. Final Thoughts: Is A Rogue Wave Really a Dealbreaker? Ultimately, I’m still excited about my upcoming Caribbean cruise with my family, and I’m not letting the fear of rogue waves ruin my New Year’s plans. The truth is, cruises are very safe, and rogue waves are so rare that I can still look forward to all the fun that comes with it—the food, the entertainment, the family time, and of course, the sunny Caribbean destinations. After all, every vacation comes with a small risk, but it’s all part of the adventure. So, if you’re like me and just found out about rogue waves, don’t panic. Stay informed, and listen to the crew. We’re all about Disney FOOD here at DFB. It’s in our name, after all. Full spread We keep track of the latest and greatest eats, drinks, restaurant news, menu changes, and a whole lot more. So, when a seasonal restaurant shows signs that it might reopen soon, well, we get pretty darn excited. We recently spotted something that made us think Tortuga Tavern would reopen soon in Magic Kingdom, but then again, maybe we didn’t… Disney, please quit playing games with our hearts — we can’t take it anymore. Tortuga Tavern is located in Magic Kingdom’s Adventureland, and it’s a quick-service restaurant that’s open seasonally — typically when the parks get REALLY busy. Tortuga Tavern was recently moonlighting as Tortuga Treasures — a temporary gift shop location. Tortuga Treasures However, that didn’t last too long, and soon after, Tortuga Treasures was back — sort of. The sign was back to normal, anyway. Tortuga Tavern Still, the restaurant didn’t show signs of opening anytime soon, until one morning when we noticed an update on the Disney World website that showed hours for the restaurant beginning on January 1st and going through late February… ©Disney …however, that was short-lived. By the time we checked the website again, no hours were showing for Tortuga Tavern at all! What gives, Disney?! Will we get to dine on these delicious eats in a few short days, or no?! ©Disney We can’t wait to see what Tortuga Tavern brings to Magic Kingdom this time around — if it does actually open anytime soon. You know we’ll be checking it out once the restaurant officially opens, so stay tuned for our full review. It’s time to visit our favorite town of mischief and nonsense! Tiny train town! That’s right, I’m taking you on a trip to EPCOT’s tiny train town, otherwise known as a hive of scum and villainy. This itty bitty city has had QUITE the year in 2024, with a variety of crimes and scandals that I’ve uncovered during my tenure as its mayor. But just because we’re wrapping up the year, doesn’t mean we’re wrapping up the shenanigans! First of all, I’m taking you on a stop to see our town’s infamous jug band! If you recall, there was a scandal earlier this year when the band had a falling out and some of the members had to be taken to the hospital. Nowadays, the new members of the band seem to be getting along well, and they’ve even gathered some livestock friends. However, they haven’t booked any gigs in town in recent months due to their violent reputation! That’s what you get for CRIME. Hmmmm During my most recent visit, I did notice that the residential areas of town seemed to be pretty quiet, with only one or two citizens at home. It seems like even our tiniest citizens travel for the holidays — where do you think they go? My guess is they’re vacationing at the Yacht Club’s tiny Christmas village. Tiny Train Town And even though I thought we apprehended the culprit earlier this year, it looks like the mayor’s office will be starting a new investigation in 2025. Doors have once again gone missing from some residents’ houses! We previously thought this was a prank pulled by local high school students…but perhaps it’s something more nefarious. What’s going on here? And for those who want an update on the social lives of our residents — young love seems to be flourishing just in time for the New Year! I had reported previously that train stations became the new meeting spot for young singles, and as the number of people hanging out at the train stations has decreased, I can only surmise that the residents have been to couple off. Good for them — Valentine’s Day is right around the corner! We’re watching out for love! As I draw this last report of 2024 to a close, I’d like to thank our loyal readers for your dedication to tiny train town! We’ll be back with more news from the village in 2025. I will personally be taking a break in the first part of the year (Madam Mayor is getting her own tiny addition!), but I will leave you in the capable hands of my assistant mayor, Robin, while I’m gone. Robin will continue the reports on all the antics, and I’ll see you again in the spring! Stay tuned to DFB for more news from the tiny train town, as well as other, actual news reports from Disney World. *The anarchy within is mostly created by natural occurrences, like giant squirrels, wind, rain, and relatively godzilla-sized lizards who frequent the town; but we find it fun and entertaining to make up fictional stories about what COULD be happening. We are grateful to the folks who create and maintain this Tiny Train Town for Disney World, as it’s one of our favorite parts of EPCOT and always has been. We love Disney Springs! Disney Springs Disney’s shopping and dining district is one of our favorite places to spend time in Disney World without paying for a park ticket. From the incredible restaurants to the fun entertainment and special shopping, there is so much to do. We’ve even found some of our favorite Disney snacks and we might have just found a new favorite. Disney Springs is home to so many of our favorite dining options like The Polite Pig, Jaleo, and more. One spot that’s typically overlooked is Erin McKenna’s Bakery NYC. Erin McKenna’s Bakery NYC This small quick service bakery focuses on gluten-free, dairy-free, and egg and soy-sensitivity-minded desserts and treats. We have been impressed with some bites here in the past but overall find ourselves going to other spots in Disney Springs, until now! Erin McKenna’s Bakery The bakery offers cupcakes, brownies, brittle, cinnamon rolls, and so much more. The star of today’s review? The Churro Cookie Sandwich! This cookie sandwich was incredible. The Churro Cookie Sandwich The cookie itself was loaded with cinnamon sugar flavor and the filling added to that even more. This treat was moist and chewy with a rich buttercream to bring it all together. Look at that filling! It reminded us of the most indulgent churro we’ve ever had, plant-based or not! We can honestly say we have never had a cookie quite like this in Disney World and we won’t be surprised if vegans and non-vegans fall in love with this. You can try this sandwich for $17.45 which we do think is a bit steep for the size. Delicious! While this spot has been a hit or miss for us, we can easily say this cookie is a hit! If you’re a churro fan, we think this is a must-try. Don’t forget to keep following DisneyFoodBlog for all of your Disney food reviews and updates. We love a Disney World hotel! Grand Floridian Resort When it comes to planning your ultimate trip to Disney World, your resort can make a huge difference! There have been lots of updates and changes like the opening of Island Tower, hotel room improvements, and new dining options. All of the changes have been great but we are still waiting for Disney Resorts to slash this one rule! Disney Resort Hotels are some of our favorite places on Earth. It’s like a secret side to Disney World that so many people don’t know about! You can find amazing dining options, fun activities, and you might even find a firework viewing spot at some resorts. While we love them, we won’t lie to you and say they’re perfect. Disney’s Contemporary Hotel One of our biggest issues with Disney hotels? The parking! Parking at Disney resorts can be a wonky topic. The clear-cut rule is you can park at a Disney resort if you have a hotel reservation or a dining reservation. Without one of those two things, you aren’t able to park… technically. The Polynesian Resort Parking Lot There have been times when security has been kind enough to let us park at places like The Boardwalk, Coronado Springs, and even the All-Star Resorts. Disney’s BoardWalk Inn Parking at these resorts has been a hit or miss depending on how busy Disney World is so we don’t recommend expecting to always park where you want to and that is the rule we are ready to see go away! There are so many delicious lounges and quick services around the Disney Resorts that we want to be able to park easily at the resorts, even if we aren’t a guest there. Steakhouse 71 Lounge Lounges and quick services don’t require a reservation which prevents us from being able to park at the resorts but, ironically, it’s also one of our favorite things about eating at those spots. It makes it convenient, easy, and flexible with your busy vacation schedule. We love that we don’t need reservations for those spots but it still leaves us with the parking issue so we’ve been cooking up some solutions we think could work. Three Bridges is another favorite without reservations Our first thought is that Disney could potentially implement a charge that is erased by a receipt from a lounge or quick service. Like a validation situation! This would ensure that Disney is only letting people park for dining and not to avoid paying those hefty theme park parking fees. Magic Kingdom parking lot Over at the Swan and Dolphin Resorts and the new Swan Reserve hotel, they offer parking validation. These resorts are not owned by Disney so that’s why you’ll find a few operational differences. When you’re eating at these resorts’ signature dining restaurants, they will provide validation so you don’t have to pay to park. This seems like a system Disney could also utilize in a similar way so guests can park closer to lounges and quick services. Swan and Dolphin Hotels A second idea we have is you could potentially show that you’ve joined a waitlist through the MyDisneyExperience app before parking. Many of the lounges and quick services are a first come, first served situation with a few exceptions. We think once you get close to parking, if you can join the walkup waitlist and park at that resort it would be a nice easy way to let guests dine without too much hassle. Topolino’s Terrace Lounge While both of these are just ideas we’ve been workshopping, we think there could be some real promise in them. In the past, to try and “hack” parking, people started to mobile order coffee from Contempo Cafe so they could park at the Contemporary Resort and then walk to Magic Kingdom without paying the parking fees. Contempo Cafe Disney cracked down on who could mobile order from certain spots and stopped allowing guests to park for mobile orders due to this abuse of the system so we might just be wishing on stars for now when it comes to parking changes. All hope isn’t lost though! If you’re really wanting to head to a lounge or quick service without worrying about the parking, you can always head over to Disney Springs and hop on a bus. Westside Bus Loop Disney Springs offers free parking and from there, you can hop on a bus to any Disney resort to dine on your favorite snacks. Sure, it might take double the time to get there but it cuts the stress of being turned away in half and it’s a guaranteed way to get to the resorts each time. It’s a simple hack that we have used time and time again. Disney Bus For now, we’ll cross our fingers and keep hoping that Disney will take our ideas so we can get a Stack Burger from Steakhouse 71 without the parking stress. If you’ve been looking for a way to skip those long queues at Disney World, you’ve got your options – mainly Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass. Lightning Lane But if you’re down to shell out for the ultimate skip the line option, then Lightning Lane Premier Pass (LLPP) might be what you want to choose. Speaking of the Premier Pass, there’s been a HUGE rule change that Disney implemented and it’s definitely been causing waves in Disney World. So let’s talk about it! What’s New with the Lightning Lane Premier Pass? When LLPP launched in late October 2024, it was exclusive to guests staying at Deluxe Hotels, the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotels, and Shades of Green. This exclusivity made sense given the hefty price tag (ranging from $129 to a jaw-dropping $449 per day, per person). ©Disney But on November 22nd, Disney announced a game-changing update: LLPP is now available to guests staying at any Disney World hotel including Moderate and Value Resorts. Yup, so even if you’re staying at Disney’s Pop Century or All-Star Movies Resort, you can snag this premium pass. Sounds great, right? Well, this shift is creating some unexpected consequences. Sell-Outs Are Here The floodgates have opened, and as a result, LLPP is selling out in record time, especially during the busiest time of the year. Here’s what we’ve seen so far during this holiday season: Magic Kingdom: Sold out December 21, 25-31, and January 1-3 EPCOT: Sold out December 21 and 31 Hollywood Studios: Sold out December 27-31 Magic Kingdom, in particular, is a hot commodity, with almost two full weeks of sell-outs, and with these dates spanning both Christmas and New Year’s, it’s clear that demand is at an all-time high. ©Disney Why This Change Is a Big Deal When LLPP was limited to Deluxe Resort guests, availability was naturally more constrained to a smaller group. Now, with Moderate and Value Resort guests in the mix, competition for these premium passes has skyrocketed. Lightning Lane For many Disney-goers, this creates a bit of a dilemma. If you’ve already budgeted for the pass (remember, prices are dynamic and can go up to $449 per person), the fear of missing out on those sell-out dates is real. Also, if you’re someone who likes to book your plans far in advance, this adds another layer of stress to your Disney planning. A Quick Refresher on LLPP In case you’re not familiar with Lightning Lane Premier Pass, here’s the deal: Skip the lines: LLPP lets you use the Lightning Lane at most attractions in a single park without making reservations or scheduling time slots. Just scan and go! Single park only: The pass is tied to the park you purchase it for, so if you’re hopping to another park, your LLPP won’t work there. Book in advance: You can buy LLPP up to seven days before your park visit, as long as you have a valid hotel reservation and park admission. ©Disney What Does This Mean for You? If you’re heading to Disney World and planning to use LLPP, here’s our advice: Act fast: With sell-outs becoming common, don’t wait to purchase your LLPP. As soon as your 7-day window opens, secure your pass for the park you want. Plan strategically: If LLPP for your park of choice is sold out, you might need to rethink your strategy. Consider alternatives like the Lightning Lane Multi Pass or Lightning Lane Single Pass, though these require reservations and don’t offer the same flexibility. Budget accordingly: LLPP is a splurge, and with holiday pricing, it’s critical to weigh whether the cost is worth the convenience for your group. At the end of the day, Disney’s decision to open up LLPP to Moderate and Value Resort guests has leveled the playing field for those staying at more affordable hotels, but it also adds pressure to an already competitive system. LLPP sell-outs are a reminder of just how popular this option has become, and how quickly you need to act if it’s part of your Disney game plan. It’s been a HUGE year for the Disney Cruise Line. Disney Cruise ship Not only did we learn about several new ships joining the fleet, but we even got to set sail on the Disney Treasure before it made its official Maiden Voyage! It takes a lot to keep these ships running in tip-top shape and the latest sanitation report from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) proves just how well Disney does it! The Disney Cruise Line (DCL) fleet is comprised of six world-class ships: the Disney Magic, the Disney Wonder, the Disney Dream, the Disney Fantasy, the Disney Wish, and the newest ship in the fleet: the Disney Treasure! The fleet will be joined by the Disney Destiny and Disney Adventure in 2025, too! In fact, Disney has announced the Line will expand its fleet to thirteen by the year 2031. Disney Treasure! It takes a lot of work to keep these ships running smoothly so guests have the best experience possible, and one ship in particular just scored a perfect 100 on the Centers for Disease Control’s (CDC) latest Sanitation Report! Inspections happen at different times for each ship, but the most recent scores show that the Disney Wish is batting 100. Disney Wish Here’s how each Disney Cruise ship scored during its latest inspection — a score above 95 is considered excellent, and a score of less than 85 is considered not satisfactory: Disney Dream: 99 Disney Fantasy: 98 Disney Magic: 96 Disney Wish: 100 Disney Wonder: 96 Disney Wish Since the Disney Treasure is so new, it’s possible the CDC has yet to run its sanitation tests to find out that score. We’ll be sure to keep an eye out for it, though! If you’re considering setting sail with the Disney Cruise Line, now is a great time to do it! We’ve got PLENTY of stellar guides and tips on sailing with Disney in 2025, so you won’t have to go in without having as much info as possible. It’s amazing how two simple words can perk up the ears of any Disney expert. Every once in a while, Disney releases new deals and discounts for upcoming vacations. Maybe you’re looking out for a sweet hotel discount. Maybe you’re hoping for a special vacation package offer. Well, there is one special deal that’s been SUPER rare over the past few years. Ever heard of a little thing called free dining? Fruit Mickey Waffle Stay calm, everyone. It’s really happening. Disney is bringing free dining BACK in 2025, and this time, ANYONE can take advantage of the offer. You may remember free dining made its long-awaited return in early 2024 for a select group of people, but since then, it’s been all quiet on the dining front. Well, the wait is over! We’re here to tell you everything you need to know about this deal, so let’s hop to it. Back in the day (we’re talking pre-pandemic), free dining offers were pretty common. Typically, based on our research, the free dining deal is one of the ONLY ways to save money when dining in Disney World. Contrary to popular belief, you don’t often save money if you pay for the Disney Dining Plan. But the FREE version? That’s another story… Free Dining Offer Disney is offering a new deal, and bookings are available starting January 2nd, 2025. You can get a FREE Disney Dining Plan with the purchase of select Disney World vacation packages for hotel stays this summer! DOLE Whip is a must on your Disney trip. We’ve got some GREAT news for people planning a trip to Disney World in 2025! First of all, there’s a new nighttime parade coming to Magic Kingdom. FINALLY. Second, a brand-new Villains-themed show is debuting in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. But the best news of all? There’s a new FREE DINING offer! Imagine enjoying your meals in Magic Kingdom…without paying a dime in the park! Dulce de Leche Peanut Butter Funnel Cake If you’ve never heard about the free dining offer, you might have some questions. In 2024, Disney reintroduced this special promotion to a small group of people, and the deal came with some caveats. Now that free dining is coming back in 2025, it’s gonna be WAY easier to take advantage of this deal. Here’s why! In 2024, there were only two ways to qualify for free dining: Have a Disney Visa Card and purchase a non-discounted four-night/four-day Disney vacation package that included a room at a Disney Resort hotel and tickets with a Park Hopper option. Have a Disney+ subscription and purchase a non-discounted four-night/four-day Disney vacation package that included a room at a Disney hotel and a theme park ticket with a Park Hopper option. If you didn’t own a Disney Visa or pay for the Disney+ streaming service, you were out of luck. But soon, a brand-new Disney Dining Plan offer will be available for ANYONE. It’s about to get WAY easier to get free dining, people! Disney Visa Cardmember Exclusive Character Experience OK, so here’s the new offer. From January 2nd to February 10th, you can get a free Disney Dining Plan with the purchase of a non-discounted 3-night, 3-day (minimum) Disney vacation package that includes a room at a select Disney Resort hotel and a ticket with a Park Hopper option. The deal will apply to vacations starting May 27th through June 26th and July 7th through August 6th, 2025. Mickey Chocolate Choux Did you notice anything different about this offer? While the old 2024 offer required people to book a four-night, four-day Disney vacation package, this NEW offer has a three-night, three-day (minimum). That’s an instant savings! Mickey Everything Chocolate Chip Cookie Plus, this offer is not limited to people with a Disney+ subscription or a Disney Visa Card. As long as you meet the promotion requirements, you should qualify for free dining! If you need a little breakdown of exactly what you need to qualify for the free dining plan, we’ll spell it out nice and simple for you: Must book a vacation package between January 2nd and February 10th Must purchase a non-discounted 3-night, 3-day (minimum) Disney vacation package Your package must include: A stay at a Disney World hotel At least one theme park ticket with a Park Hopper option The vacation must occur May 27th through June 26th or July 7th through August 6th, 2025 Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort Not too complicated, right? As you’re deciding if this deal is right for you, it might help to see how much it costs to buy the Disney Dining Plan at full cost. 2025 Dining Plans range from $59.14 to $97.70 for adults (depending on the plan you select) and $24.70 to $30.78 per child. The longer your vacation, the more those costs start to add up, so the free dining deal can help you save a lot of money! Our Disney Dining Plan at Disney World Page has EVERYTHING you need to know! Although this deal can help you save money, it’s still a good idea to weigh the pros and cons of using the Dining Plan on vacation. It might make more sense to use a Disney World hotel discount and pay out of pocket for your meals — especially if you don’t eat a lot of food on vacation. We have some great information about the Dining Plan in our DFB Guide to Walt Disney World Dining e-Book. You can get your own copy here! We also have a guide entirely focused on the Disney Dining Plan! The DFB Guide to Maximizing the Disney Dining Plan breaks down each plan and everything you need to know. When it comes to shopping and dining at Disney World, Disney Springs is the place to be! Disney Springs Disney Springs is always evolving each year. Offering a ton of shopping, dining, and entertainment without the requirement of a theme park ticket, Disney Springs has been and will continue to be a hotspot for Disney World guests. New menus and stores pop up all the time, so there’s a ton to keep track of, especially if you’re looking to visit in 2025. If your next visit to Disney Springs will be your first, everything about this district will be new to you. However, returnees should expect to see some notable changes in 2025. Disney Springs New Happy Hours Finding happy hours around Disney Springs won’t be new in 2025. Happy Hour spots are a dime a dozen at this Disney location and some of our favorites can be found at restaurants like House of Blues, Jaleo, and Paradiso 37. However, two new happy hours were recently introduced and will carry into 2025. The Edison The Edison launched a new happy hour featuring afternoon cocktails and shareable bites for lower prices from 3PM to 6PM Sunday through Friday. Cheese Quesadilla with rika Similarly, eet by Maneet Chauhan introduced a new Cheese Quesadilla for $7.95 from 2PM to 5PM daily. The quesadilla is filled with Indian pico and comes with a side of Raita (a yogurt dip mixed with Indian spices). This happy-hour quesadilla is an affordable option and we think it’s good enough to warrant a try! New Shops Disney keeps burning through our wallets and we can’t help but oblige! Spending at Disney World is going to get even easier in 2025 with the opening of some new shops. Ever After in Disney Springs Town Center used to have a store called Ever After Jewelry Co. that sold Disney jewelry and designer bags. We say was because it got a total makeover and is now called Disney Ever After. You’ll find Disney character-inspired Loungefly bags, Minnie ears, and even some Lug bags. This spot is also where you can create your own headband with Disney characters. Mix and match and create the headband of your dreams! Vineyard Vines Staying in Town Center, Vineyard Vines opened earlier this year and offers clothing and accessories for men, women, children, and pets. A New Bus Earlier this year a new bus route called Link311 began taking guests to and from Orlando International Airport and over to Disney Springs for only $2 each way. Lynx Bus The bus comes every 30 minutes daily from 5AM to 11PM and does pickups and dropoffs on the West Side of Disney Springs. We tried it out and found it has plenty of seats and standing room in addition to being wheelchair accessible, but found there isn’t a ton of storage space and you’ll need to hold your suitcase on your lap if it gets crowded. Lynx bus There’s also free wifi available onboard, but no outlets to charge your devices, and credit cards AREN’T allowed, so plan on using the Lynx Paw Pass or cash. The biggest issue we ran into, however, is the inability to take your luggage with you from Disney Springs onto a Disney World bus. Inside Lynx bus Disney World buses going to the hotels don’t allow you to board with luggage so you’ll be forced to take a rideshare if you have too much. Therefore, we really recommend the bus system if you’re traveling light, within walking distance of your hotel, or are cool with getting a rideshare after you arrive. A New Bar Things have been pretty quiet on the Disney Springs restaurant front regarding expansion recently. However, Paddy’s Bar is expected to open in the near future. Paddy’s Bar This bar will be an addition to the Raglan Road complex and will be situated in front of the Shop for Ireland gift store. This tiny space will only seat six-to-eight at a time and you’ll be able to order from a limited menu of drinks. According to Disney, this menu will feature “the very best of Irish draft beers along with locally commissioned craft beers – plus [Paddy’s Bar’s] unique array of Irish cocktails.” New Closures Now we get to the not-so-fun part…closures. Alex and Ani location that’s now closed On January 1st, 2024, the Alex and Ani closed without any notice, following a trend of mass closures of physical stores for the brand around the country — including the company’s headquarters in Rhode Island. The Art of Shaving Disney Springs The Art of Shaving store closed right after despite being a Disney Springs staple for a decade. There has yet to be a replacement for this space announced. We’ll keep an eye out for what’s coming next! The Sanuk store also closed its doors in August and also has no announced replacement. Star Wars Trading Post is closed We also saw Star Wars Trading Post in Disney Springs close in October. This shop was one of the few places that carried Legacy Lightsabers outside of the parks, but you can still visit a Star Wars-themed store at Disney Springs called Star Wars Galactic Outpost over on the West side. ‘Up’ house in Disney Dreams That Soar Disney Dreams That Soar was a free drone show at Disney Springs that took place over Lake Buena Vista and premiered May 24th, 2024. However, it ended too soon on September 2nd, 2024. Disney’s foray into drone shows has been a welcome experience and we hope to see this show return in some capacity. We’re digging the drone shows, Disney! Death Star in Disney Dreams That Soar As we previously mentioned, Disney Springs is always evolving. Keep an eye out for pop-up shops, new art installations, seasonal treats, performances, and so much more! We have reporters visiting Disney Springs daily, so be sure to stay tuned right here at the Disney Food Blog for all the latest news, tips, reviews, and more! Why Disney, WHY?! Ever dreamed about what it’s like to work at Disney World? It’s certainly a unique job; not many people can say that their boss is a mouse. Well, today, I want to talk about a very specific type of Cast Member: the Character Attendant. These people have a FUN job, but what’s it really like to work so closely with THE Mickey Mouse? I’m glad you asked! Mickey Mouse When you meet a character in Disney World, there will ALWAYS be a Character Attendant nearby. A Character Attendant is not the same thing as the character itself; the Cast Members wearing the blue polo shirts are Character Attendants (a.k.a. “blueberries“). These Cast Members are there to help! Need a pen for autographs? Need someone to translate Mickey’s “Happy Birthday” message? That’s the job of a Character Attendant! As a former Character Attendant, I know what it’s like to monitor the line, keep an eye on character interactions, take photos, and keep an eye on the time…all at the same time. Now that I’m a Regular Person and am no longer a Cast Member, I’m spilling some secrets! Ever wondered what a Character Attendant WISHES they could say? Cast Members are generally super friendly, kind, and understanding. They know Disney World can be stressful, and they know how expensive it is to come to the parks and resorts. It’s their job to be the magic! But every once in a while, Cast Members are put in uncomfortable situations. Here’s what they WISH they could say. It’s Donald. Not Daffy. You don’t need an encyclopedia-level knowledge of Disney characters to come to Disney World. Don’t worry — there’s no test where you’ll have to name all seven dwarfs on the spot. But after working in Disney World for a long time, I noticed there are some characters people tend to confuse. Joy, from Inside Out, for example? You wouldn’t believe how many people used to ask, “Who is that?” People confuse poor Joy for the Tooth Fairy (yes, really) and even Tinker Bell. Joy at EPCOT! I also heard this a lot: “Look! It’s Daffy Duck!” And don’t even get me started on the Goofy versus Pluto mixup. If you’re waiting in line to meet Pluto…and you call him Goofy. Ouch. Don’t hurt Pluto’s feelings like that! Inappropriate Shirts Just Make a Cast Member’s Job More Stressful I’m not here to tell you what you can and can’t wear to Disney World. But if you try to meet a character with an inappropriate shirt on, all you’re doing is putting people in an uncomfortable position. It goes against the Disney brand to have a Disney character posing next to a non-family-friendly image, and Cast Members can get in serious trouble if someone is spotted taking an inappropriate photo. Hey Minnie! When I was a Cast Member, the hardest part of my job was enforcing the rules when people were unwilling to cooperate. Even if it’s meant as a harmless joke, it can cause real stress for Cast Members. They Can’t Control Character Interactions Character Attendants may work closely with characters, but they’re not the ones who decide how your interaction will play out. If a little one has a bad reaction to Mickey Mouse, don’t worry! The best thing to do is say goodbye and try again in the future. Don’t force it! Mickey and Minnie Mouse We’ve all seen those photos of the crying child sitting on Santa’s lap. Trust us — it’s not worth the trauma! Shh! Learn to Keep a Secret Every once in a while, Disney will host pop-up character meet-and-greets in the parks. You don’t know when, where, or how long these surprise events will happen, but that’s part of the fun. In other words, don’t spoil it! When we say, “This is why we can’t have nice things,” this is a prime example. Pop-up meet-and-greets ONLY work if the event is kept under wraps. If these character paloozas attract too many people, the meet-and-greet won’t work. A Character Palooza in action! I’m not saying you shouldn’t text your BFF if you spot a surprise meet-and-greet happening in EPCOT. But just don’t broadcast that kind of information to thousands of people, OK? It’s for your own good. You never know who you might meet! I had so much fun working as a Character Attendant — it was a dream job! But if you’ve ever wondered what I was really thinking when someone mistakenly called Joy the Tooth Fairy….well, now you know. Well, the holiday season will soon come to a close in Disney World, but we’ve still got one HUGE 2024 event to celebrate. EPCOT New Year’s Eve That’s New Year’s Eve, when we ring out the old year and ring in the New. Now, New Year’s Eve can be a BLAST in Disney World with three out of the four parks celebrating in some way with special New Year’s Eve fireworks. However, EPCOT goes a little overboard with its celebration and brings in a lot of fun, like DJs, dance parties, and more. Well, we’ve started to see the first of preparations for EPCOT’s big party! New Year’s Eve in EPCOT brings dance parties around World Showcase where you can dance your way into 2025. EPCOT is preparing for all sorts of fun events! We’ve seen a few tents set up, and these could be for the upcoming Festival of the Arts celebration in January or the New Year’s Eve party! Is this a DJ booth? We spotted another tent in Italy. Tent in Italy There’s one in Germany, too! Germany We also noticed some new lighting rigs installed overhead that will be used during the big celebration. Can’t have New Year’s Eve without lots of colorful lights, right? Here’s the lighting rig we saw in China. Lighting rig in China There’s one in Italy, too. These are likely going to be dance floors on the big night. Lighting rig in Italy If you will be in EPCOT for New Year’s Eve, you’ll also want to catch the early showing of Luminous — The Symphony of Us at 6:30PM before the “Cheers to the New Year: A Sparkling Celebration” starts off with its countdown at 11:54PM. There’s a good chance that EPCOT could fill to capacity on December 31st, so if you want in on the party, you’ll need to get to the park early and stick around until evening.
