If you’ve been looking for a way to skip those long queues at Disney World, you’ve got your options – mainly Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass. Lightning Lane But if you’re down to shell out for the ultimate skip the line option, then Lightning Lane Premier Pass (LLPP) might be what you want to choose. Speaking of the Premier Pass, there’s been a HUGE rule change that Disney implemented and it’s definitely been causing waves in Disney World. So let’s talk about it! What’s New with the Lightning Lane Premier Pass? When LLPP launched in late October 2024, it was exclusive to guests staying at Deluxe Hotels, the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotels, and Shades of Green. This exclusivity made sense given the hefty price tag (ranging from $129 to a jaw-dropping $449 per day, per person). ©Disney But on November 22nd, Disney announced a game-changing update: LLPP is now available to guests staying at any Disney World hotel including Moderate and Value Resorts. Yup, so even if you’re staying at Disney’s Pop Century or All-Star Movies Resort, you can snag this premium pass. Sounds great, right? Well, this shift is creating some unexpected consequences. Sell-Outs Are Here The floodgates have opened, and as a result, LLPP is selling out in record time, especially during the busiest time of the year. Here’s what we’ve seen so far during this holiday season: Magic Kingdom: Sold out December 21, 25-31, and January 1-3 EPCOT: Sold out December 21 and 31 Hollywood Studios: Sold out December 27-31 Magic Kingdom, in particular, is a hot commodity, with almost two full weeks of sell-outs, and with these dates spanning both Christmas and New Year’s, it’s clear that demand is at an all-time high. ©Disney Why This Change Is a Big Deal When LLPP was limited to Deluxe Resort guests, availability was naturally more constrained to a smaller group. Now, with Moderate and Value Resort guests in the mix, competition for these premium passes has skyrocketed. Lightning Lane For many Disney-goers, this creates a bit of a dilemma. If you’ve already budgeted for the pass (remember, prices are dynamic and can go up to $449 per person), the fear of missing out on those sell-out dates is real. Also, if you’re someone who likes to book your plans far in advance, this adds another layer of stress to your Disney planning. A Quick Refresher on LLPP In case you’re not familiar with Lightning Lane Premier Pass, here’s the deal: Skip the lines: LLPP lets you use the Lightning Lane at most attractions in a single park without making reservations or scheduling time slots. Just scan and go! Single park only: The pass is tied to the park you purchase it for, so if you’re hopping to another park, your LLPP won’t work there. Book in advance: You can buy LLPP up to seven days before your park visit, as long as you have a valid hotel reservation and park admission. ©Disney What Does This Mean for You? If you’re heading to Disney World and planning to use LLPP, here’s our advice: Act fast: With sell-outs becoming common, don’t wait to purchase your LLPP. As soon as your 7-day window opens, secure your pass for the park you want. Plan strategically: If LLPP for your park of choice is sold out, you might need to rethink your strategy. Consider alternatives like the Lightning Lane Multi Pass or Lightning Lane Single Pass, though these require reservations and don’t offer the same flexibility. Budget accordingly: LLPP is a splurge, and with holiday pricing, it’s critical to weigh whether the cost is worth the convenience for your group. At the end of the day, Disney’s decision to open up LLPP to Moderate and Value Resort guests has leveled the playing field for those staying at more affordable hotels, but it also adds pressure to an already competitive system. LLPP sell-outs are a reminder of just how popular this option has become, and how quickly you need to act if it’s part of your Disney game plan. It’s been a HUGE year for the Disney Cruise Line. Disney Cruise ship Not only did we learn about several new ships joining the fleet, but we even got to set sail on the Disney Treasure before it made its official Maiden Voyage! It takes a lot to keep these ships running in tip-top shape and the latest sanitation report from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) proves just how well Disney does it! The Disney Cruise Line (DCL) fleet is comprised of six world-class ships: the Disney Magic, the Disney Wonder, the Disney Dream, the Disney Fantasy, the Disney Wish, and the newest ship in the fleet: the Disney Treasure! The fleet will be joined by the Disney Destiny and Disney Adventure in 2025, too! In fact, Disney has announced the Line will expand its fleet to thirteen by the year 2031. Disney Treasure! It takes a lot of work to keep these ships running smoothly so guests have the best experience possible, and one ship in particular just scored a perfect 100 on the Centers for Disease Control’s (CDC) latest Sanitation Report! Inspections happen at different times for each ship, but the most recent scores show that the Disney Wish is batting 100. Disney Wish Here’s how each Disney Cruise ship scored during its latest inspection — a score above 95 is considered excellent, and a score of less than 85 is considered not satisfactory: Disney Dream: 99 Disney Fantasy: 98 Disney Magic: 96 Disney Wish: 100 Disney Wonder: 96 Disney Wish Since the Disney Treasure is so new, it’s possible the CDC has yet to run its sanitation tests to find out that score. We’ll be sure to keep an eye out for it, though! If you’re considering setting sail with the Disney Cruise Line, now is a great time to do it! We’ve got PLENTY of stellar guides and tips on sailing with Disney in 2025, so you won’t have to go in without having as much info as possible. And, our friends over at Small World Vacations can help you plan from start to finish! They’re licensed Disney Travel Agents who have years and years of experience. We’ve got some GREAT news for people planning a trip to Disney World in 2025! First of all, there’s a new nighttime parade coming to Magic Kingdom. FINALLY. Second, a brand-new Villains-themed show is debuting in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. But the best news of all? There’s a new FREE DINING offer! Imagine enjoying your meals in Magic Kingdom…without paying a dime in the park! Dulce de Leche Peanut Butter Funnel Cake If you’ve never heard about the free dining offer, you might have some questions. In 2024, Disney reintroduced this special promotion to a small group of people, and the deal came with some caveats. Now that free dining is coming back in 2025, it’s gonna be WAY easier to take advantage of this deal. Here’s why! In 2024, there were only two ways to qualify for free dining: Have a Disney Visa Card and purchase a non-discounted four-night/four-day Disney vacation package that included a room at a Disney Resort hotel and tickets with a Park Hopper option. Have a Disney+ subscription and purchase a non-discounted four-night/four-day Disney vacation package that included a room at a Disney hotel and a theme park ticket with a Park Hopper option. If you didn’t own a Disney Visa or pay for the Disney+ streaming service, you were out of luck. But soon, a brand-new Disney Dining Plan offer will be available for ANYONE. It’s about to get WAY easier to get free dining, people! Disney Visa Cardmember Exclusive Character Experience OK, so here’s the new offer. From January 2nd to February 10th, you can get a free Disney Dining Plan with the purchase of a non-discounted 3-night, 3-day (minimum) Disney vacation package that includes a room at a select Disney Resort hotel and a ticket with a Park Hopper option. The deal will apply to vacations starting May 27th through June 26th and July 7th through August 6th, 2025. Mickey Chocolate Choux Did you notice anything different about this offer? While the old 2024 offer required people to book a four-night, four-day Disney vacation package, this NEW offer has a three-night, three-day (minimum). That’s an instant savings! Mickey Everything Chocolate Chip Cookie Plus, this offer is not limited to people with a Disney+ subscription or a Disney Visa Card. As long as you meet the promotion requirements, you should qualify for free dining! If you need a little breakdown of exactly what you need to qualify for the free dining plan, we’ll spell it out nice and simple for you: Must book a vacation package between January 2nd and February 10th Must purchase a non-discounted 3-night, 3-day (minimum) Disney vacation package Your package must include: A stay at a Disney World hotel At least one theme park ticket with a Park Hopper option The vacation must occur May 27th through June 26th or July 7th through August 6th, 2025 Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort Not too complicated, right? As you’re deciding if this deal is right for you, it might help to see how much it costs to buy the Disney Dining Plan at full cost. 2025 Dining Plans range from $59.14 to $97.70 for adults (depending on the plan you select) and $24.70 to $30.78 per child. The longer your vacation, the more those costs start to add up, so the free dining deal can help you save a lot of money! Our Disney Dining Plan at Disney World Page has EVERYTHING you need to know! Although this deal can help you save money, it’s still a good idea to weigh the pros and cons of using the Dining Plan on vacation. It might make more sense to use a Disney World hotel discount and pay out of pocket for your meals — especially if you don’t eat a lot of food on vacation. We have some great information about the Dining Plan in our DFB Guide to Walt Disney World Dining e-Book. You can get your own copy here! We also have a guide entirely focused on the Disney Dining Plan! The DFB Guide to Maximizing the Disney Dining Plan breaks down each plan and everything you need to know. When it comes to shopping and dining at Disney World, Disney Springs is the place to be! Disney Springs Disney Springs is always evolving each year. Offering a ton of shopping, dining, and entertainment without the requirement of a theme park ticket, Disney Springs has been and will continue to be a hotspot for Disney World guests. New menus and stores pop up all the time, so there’s a ton to keep track of, especially if you’re looking to visit in 2025. If your next visit to Disney Springs will be your first, everything about this district will be new to you. However, returnees should expect to see some notable changes in 2025. Disney Springs New Happy Hours Finding happy hours around Disney Springs won’t be new in 2025. Happy Hour spots are a dime a dozen at this Disney location and some of our favorites can be found at restaurants like House of Blues, Jaleo, and Paradiso 37. However, two new happy hours were recently introduced and will carry into 2025. The Edison The Edison launched a new happy hour featuring afternoon cocktails and shareable bites for lower prices from 3PM to 6PM Sunday through Friday. Cheese Quesadilla with rika Similarly, eet by Maneet Chauhan introduced a new Cheese Quesadilla for $7.95 from 2PM to 5PM daily. The quesadilla is filled with Indian pico and comes with a side of Raita (a yogurt dip mixed with Indian spices). This happy-hour quesadilla is an affordable option and we think it’s good enough to warrant a try! New Shops Disney keeps burning through our wallets and we can’t help but oblige! Spending at Disney World is going to get even easier in 2025 with the opening of some new shops. Ever After in Disney Springs Town Center used to have a store called Ever After Jewelry Co. that sold Disney jewelry and designer bags. We say was because it got a total makeover and is now called Disney Ever After. You’ll find Disney character-inspired Loungefly bags, Minnie ears, and even some Lug bags. This spot is also where you can create your own headband with Disney characters. Mix and match and create the headband of your dreams! Vineyard Vines Staying in Town Center, Vineyard Vines opened earlier this year and offers clothing and accessories for men, women, children, and pets. A New Bus Earlier this year a new bus route called Link311 began taking guests to and from Orlando International Airport and over to Disney Springs for only $2 each way. Lynx Bus The bus comes every 30 minutes daily from 5AM to 11PM and does pickups and dropoffs on the West Side of Disney Springs. We tried it out and found it has plenty of seats and standing room in addition to being wheelchair accessible, but found there isn’t a ton of storage space and you’ll need to hold your suitcase on your lap if it gets crowded. Lynx bus There’s also free wifi available onboard, but no outlets to charge your devices, and credit cards AREN’T allowed, so plan on using the Lynx Paw Pass or cash. The biggest issue we ran into, however, is the inability to take your luggage with you from Disney Springs onto a Disney World bus. Inside Lynx bus Disney World buses going to the hotels don’t allow you to board with luggage so you’ll be forced to take a rideshare if you have too much. Therefore, we really recommend the bus system if you’re traveling light, within walking distance of your hotel, or are cool with getting a rideshare after you arrive. A New Bar Things have been pretty quiet on the Disney Springs restaurant front regarding expansion recently. However, Paddy’s Bar is expected to open in the near future. Paddy’s Bar This bar will be an addition to the Raglan Road complex and will be situated in front of the Shop for Ireland gift store. This tiny space will only seat six-to-eight at a time and you’ll be able to order from a limited menu of drinks. According to Disney, this menu will feature “the very best of Irish draft beers along with locally commissioned craft beers – plus [Paddy’s Bar’s] unique array of Irish cocktails.” New Closures Now we get to the not-so-fun part…closures. Alex and Ani location that’s now closed On January 1st, 2024, the Alex and Ani closed without any notice, following a trend of mass closures of physical stores for the brand around the country — including the company’s headquarters in Rhode Island. The Art of Shaving Disney Springs The Art of Shaving store closed right after despite being a Disney Springs staple for a decade. There has yet to be a replacement for this space announced. We’ll keep an eye out for what’s coming next! The Sanuk store also closed its doors in August and also has no announced replacement. Star Wars Trading Post is closed We also saw Star Wars Trading Post in Disney Springs close in October. This shop was one of the few places that carried Legacy Lightsabers outside of the parks, but you can still visit a Star Wars-themed store at Disney Springs called Star Wars Galactic Outpost over on the West side. ‘Up’ house in Disney Dreams That Soar Disney Dreams That Soar was a free drone show at Disney Springs that took place over Lake Buena Vista and premiered May 24th, 2024. However, it ended too soon on September 2nd, 2024. Disney’s foray into drone shows has been a welcome experience and we hope to see this show return in some capacity. We’re digging the drone shows, Disney! Death Star in Disney Dreams That Soar As we previously mentioned, Disney Springs is always evolving. Keep an eye out for pop-up shops, new art installations, seasonal treats, performances, and so much more! We have reporters visiting Disney Springs daily, so be sure to stay tuned right here at the Disney Food Blog for all the latest news, tips, reviews, and more! Why Disney, WHY?! Ever dreamed about what it’s like to work at Disney World? It’s certainly a unique job; not many people can say that their boss is a mouse. Well, today, I want to talk about a very specific type of Cast Member: the Character Attendant. These people have a FUN job, but what’s it really like to work so closely with THE Mickey Mouse? I’m glad you asked! Mickey Mouse When you meet a character in Disney World, there will ALWAYS be a Character Attendant nearby. A Character Attendant is not the same thing as the character itself; the Cast Members wearing the blue polo shirts are Character Attendants (a.k.a. “blueberries“). These Cast Members are there to help! Need a pen for autographs? Need someone to translate Mickey’s “Happy Birthday” message? That’s the job of a Character Attendant! As a former Character Attendant, I know what it’s like to monitor the line, keep an eye on character interactions, take photos, and keep an eye on the time…all at the same time. Now that I’m a Regular Person and am no longer a Cast Member, I’m spilling some secrets! Ever wondered what a Character Attendant WISHES they could say? Cast Members are generally super friendly, kind, and understanding. They know Disney World can be stressful, and they know how expensive it is to come to the parks and resorts. It’s their job to be the magic! But every once in a while, Cast Members are put in uncomfortable situations. Here’s what they WISH they could say. It’s Donald. Not Daffy. You don’t need an encyclopedia-level knowledge of Disney characters to come to Disney World. Don’t worry — there’s no test where you’ll have to name all seven dwarfs on the spot. But after working in Disney World for a long time, I noticed there are some characters people tend to confuse. Joy, from Inside Out, for example? You wouldn’t believe how many people used to ask, “Who is that?” People confuse poor Joy for the Tooth Fairy (yes, really) and even Tinker Bell. Joy at EPCOT! I also heard this a lot: “Look! It’s Daffy Duck!” And don’t even get me started on the Goofy versus Pluto mixup. If you’re waiting in line to meet Pluto…and you call him Goofy. Ouch. Don’t hurt Pluto’s feelings like that! Inappropriate Shirts Just Make a Cast Member’s Job More Stressful I’m not here to tell you what you can and can’t wear to Disney World. But if you try to meet a character with an inappropriate shirt on, all you’re doing is putting people in an uncomfortable position. It goes against the Disney brand to have a Disney character posing next to a non-family-friendly image, and Cast Members can get in serious trouble if someone is spotted taking an inappropriate photo. Hey Minnie! When I was a Cast Member, the hardest part of my job was enforcing the rules when people were unwilling to cooperate. Even if it’s meant as a harmless joke, it can cause real stress for Cast Members. They Can’t Control Character Interactions Character Attendants may work closely with characters, but they’re not the ones who decide how your interaction will play out. If a little one has a bad reaction to Mickey Mouse, don’t worry! The best thing to do is say goodbye and try again in the future. Don’t force it! Mickey and Minnie Mouse We’ve all seen those photos of the crying child sitting on Santa’s lap. Trust us — it’s not worth the trauma! Shh! Learn to Keep a Secret Every once in a while, Disney will host pop-up character meet-and-greets in the parks. You don’t know when, where, or how long these surprise events will happen, but that’s part of the fun. In other words, don’t spoil it! When we say, “This is why we can’t have nice things,” this is a prime example. Pop-up meet-and-greets ONLY work if the event is kept under wraps. If these character paloozas attract too many people, the meet-and-greet won’t work. A Character Palooza in action! I’m not saying you shouldn’t text your BFF if you spot a surprise meet-and-greet happening in EPCOT. But just don’t broadcast that kind of information to thousands of people, OK? It’s for your own good. You never know who you might meet! I had so much fun working as a Character Attendant — it was a dream job! But if you’ve ever wondered what I was really thinking when someone mistakenly called Joy the Tooth Fairy….well, now you know. Well, the holiday season will soon come to a close in Disney World, but we’ve still got one HUGE 2024 event to celebrate. EPCOT New Year’s Eve That’s New Year’s Eve, when we ring out the old year and ring in the New. Now, New Year’s Eve can be a BLAST in Disney World with three out of the four parks celebrating in some way with special New Year’s Eve fireworks. However, EPCOT goes a little overboard with its celebration and brings in a lot of fun, like DJs, dance parties, and more. Well, we’ve started to see the first of preparations for EPCOT’s big party! New Year’s Eve in EPCOT brings dance parties around World Showcase where you can dance your way into 2025. EPCOT is preparing for all sorts of fun events! We’ve seen a few tents set up, and these could be for the upcoming Festival of the Arts celebration in January or the New Year’s Eve party! Is this a DJ booth? We spotted another tent in Italy. Tent in Italy There’s one in Germany, too! Germany We also noticed some new lighting rigs installed overhead that will be used during the big celebration. Can’t have New Year’s Eve without lots of colorful lights, right? Here’s the lighting rig we saw in China. Lighting rig in China There’s one in Italy, too. These are likely going to be dance floors on the big night. Lighting rig in Italy If you will be in EPCOT for New Year’s Eve, you’ll also want to catch the early showing of Luminous — The Symphony of Us at 6:30PM before the “Cheers to the New Year: A Sparkling Celebration” starts off with its countdown at 11:54PM. There’s a good chance that EPCOT could fill to capacity on December 31st, so if you want in on the party, you’ll need to get to the park early and stick around until evening. There are lots of transportation options for you to use while at Disney World. The Walt Disney World Monorail at EPCOT The Monorail can take you between the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC), Magic Kingdom, Magic Kingdom Resorts, and EPCOT. Buses run from all four parks, the water parks, Disney Springs, and hotels. And there’s the popular Skyliner that runs between several hotels, EPCOT, and Hollywood Studios. But you can also catch rideshare vehicles, including the cute Minnie Vans. While the Monorail, buses, and Skyliner are free options, sometimes paying for a ride share vehicle might be worth it. But there’s one thing about the Minnie Vans that you never knew before! The Minnie Vans at Disney World are an option offered through the Lyft app. They are adorably themed ride options that are dressed up like Minnie Mouse! They work the same way as any Lyft ride option, just within Disney World only, but it’s a specific option you must select when reserving a Lyft in the app. Minnie Vans To use a Minnie Van, you can follow these three easy steps: Open the Lyft app while visiting Walt Disney World Resort and enter your destination. Confirm your pickup location and tap “Select Minnie Van.” If the Minnie Van service doesn’t immediately display, scroll through vehicle type options until it appears. Track your vehicle on a map provided by the app. You’ll also see the vehicle number to help you spot your car. Up to two car seats are included in the price of the Minnie Van for kids under the age of 6 years old. Minnie Van The times of availability vary for the Minnie Vans because these cute vehicles need their beauty rest to stay as bright and chipper as Minnie Mouse herself. So, where do these adorable vans go to get their rest? You might be surprised to learn that their “bedroom” isn’t as far away as you might think! Minnie Van parking lot If you visit Disney Springs, you’ll find a parking lot at the back of the shopping and dining district that you can walk to from Saratoga Springs. This lot is the Strawberry Lot, and it used to be used for general parking at Disney Springs. However, it is now closed to guests, and instead, you’ll find every variation of Minnie Van taking their much-deserved break. Shhh… they’re sleeping These vans and their drivers work hard to take people where they need to go all around Disney World, so we’re glad to see these “Minnies” get the “sleep” they deserve. Minnie Vans The Strawberry Lot is also right next to the West Side rideshare drop-off and the West Side bus stop. If you need to catch a ride share or are getting off by one, you may find yourself in this area of Disney Springs. Next time you’re there, take a peek at all the resting Minnie Vans! Strawberry Lot There are lots of fun, hidden details like this one at Disney World! You never know what you might stumble across while you’re exploring the parks and resort. Disney World always keeps its rides up to date and working properly to ensure a great guest experience. Magic Kingdom Disney will often close rides to do refurbishments for routine maintenance, or sometimes rides won’t even have to close down for the Imagineers to make small adjustments. Depending on the maintenance, refurbishments can take less than a day to do or over a year (as will be the case with Big Thunder Mountain Railroad). A new permit that we spotted for another Magic Kingdom ride hints that maintenance of some kind is coming soon. According to a new notice of commencement filed by Walt Disney Imagineering with Orange County, Florida, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin will be getting new projectors installed! The address filed is 1305 Monorail Way, Bay Lake, FL, which is the address for the Magic Kingdom ride. Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin The contractor named for the projector job is Maddox Electric Company of Winter Garden, FL. It’s likely that this installation will be quick and easy, and hopefully, we won’t see the ride needing to close for an extended time to make the updates. Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin The Toy Story-themed ride takes you on an adventure with Buzz Lightyear to destroy Evil Emperor Zerg. You’ll go through the ride on slow-moving vehicles to shoot the ‘Z’s’ and take down Zerg and save the galaxy! It’s a fun family ride that is completely interactive. Help Buzz defeat Zurg! We’ll keep our eyes out for any closure announcements just in case the ride does need to close; however, that is unlikely. We’re glad to see this ride get some love and updates! Okay, so it’s no secret that we love Dole Whip, pretty much in all its forms. It’s rare when we meet a Dole Whip we don’t like (although don’t get us wrong — it has happened). Tamu Tamu Now, what can plus up a Dole Whip? Well, if you answered booze, you’re OUR KIND OF PEOPLE. So we discovered that a variant of a boozy Dole Whip that we’ve previously had in Disney Springs had made its way to Animal Kingdom. OBVIOUSLY, we had to get it. But that’s not all because we also ordered a drink that may have just become our new favorite flavor combo in Disney World. We have SO MUCH to tell you about these two drinks. Both of these drinks are available in Animal Kingdom, so we’re starting at Tamu Tamu Refreshments to revisit the Dole Whip Sangria Float for $14.50. We had something similar a few years ago in Disney Springs at Swirls on the Water. It’s made with Jam Jar Sweet Shiraz topped with Dole Whip Pineapple. There it is, on the menu So, basically, this is a Dole Whip float, but the pineapple juice has been replaced with sangria. Honestly, we think we prefer pineapple juice or coconut rum (that keeps the tropical flavors going). This is a little less sweet than we would like, but it’s definitely not something you should get if you don’t like sangria because it does have that flavor. Sangria Dole Whip Float So, if you’re a wine person, this could be a big win for you. However, note that the sangria in it isn’t cold or chilled. It seems like it’s served at room temperature, and the thing is that this seems to make the Dole Whip melt even faster than normal. It melts pretty fast Now, over to Harambe Market, where we grabbed the Banana Orange Guava Slush for $5.99 (although you can add rum, vodka, or tequila and pay $17.50). Um…okay, so we love Passion fruit, Orange, and Guava (POG), but this could be even BETTER. It’s got a whole sunset look to it with the banana syrup on the bottom and the slush on top, but we mixed it all together to get all the flavors. Banana > Pineapple This could very well replace POG as one of our favorite flavor combos in Disney World, and on a hot day? This drink will be a real WINNER. It’s very refreshing. We hope this sticks around for a while! New favorite flavor combo We’ll keep trying out new drinks and snacks in Disney World, so stay tuned to DFB for more. WE KNOW – there are SO many great snacks at Disney World! How do you choose (we don’t want to choose but will blow our budget on Day 1 otherwise)? We’ve got you covered! Crowds are certainly HIGH around Disney World right now, thanks to holiday vacationers and people preparing to celebrate New Year’s Eve in Disney World. We don’t foresee that changing any time soon. Magic Kingdom Crowds This is typically one of, if not THE busiest time of year in Disney World. Many attractions reach hours-long waits that we don’t see any other time of year. You’re shoulder-to-shoulder with hundreds of strangers, and stress levels are at an all-time high. However, even as these crowds start to dissipate at the end of next week, we know wait times for this one attraction will stay high — here’s why. We recently found out that more than one Magic Kingdom attraction will be closing in January for refurbishment, but the one that’s been on our minds the longest has been Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. This popular attraction will be closing on January 6th and will remain closed for at least a year — we know the current plan is for the ride to reopen sometime in 2026, but that’s all we know at this time. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad So, why will this line stay long after the holidays? Well, fans know that it likely will be their last chance to ride the wildest ride in the wilderness for a while, so people want to get in those final memories before it’s too late! Big Thunder Mountain Railroad The attraction will also never be the same after this refurbishment. Disney said they’re also adding a few new “magical touches” to the ride in addition to regular maintenance. Right now, you can also see a BIG crane behind the attraction beginning to work on some top-secret projects. Could it be the highly anticipated Villains Land?! Crane behind Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Disney didn’t share what’s happening with that giant crane, but all we can say about it is “EW.” It’s not very nice to look at. Hopefully it doesn’t stick around for long! Another look at the crane Looking for more recent Magic Kingdom news? Check out our posts below! More Recent Magic Kingdom News! It’s no secret that the holiday season is a very busy time in Disney World. Lightning Lane at Expedition Everest That’s especially true now that we’re getting closer to New Year’s Eve. In fact, we’ve already seen park pass reservations sell out at three of Disney World’s parks. We also expected to see Lightning Lane Multi Pass to sell out, at least for the more popular parks (like Magic Kingdom, for example), but today…Lightning Lane Multi Pass sold out for Disney World’s least popular park — and y’all, this was not on our 2024 bingo card. We’ll give you a rundown of Lightning Lane Multi Pass if you’re not familiar with it. Basically, this is an additional service you pay for that gives you access to skip the standby lines at rides and go through a shorter Lightning Lane, which can save a lot of time. As you can imagine, Multi Pass is very popular in parks with a lot of popular rides, including Hollywood Studios and Magic Kingdom. However, it’s not so popular in Animal Kingdom…at least until now. Lightning Lane brochure This time of year, we often see Lightning Lane Multi Pass sell out for the more popular parks, but today, well, today, Lightning Lane Multi Pass is sold out for Animal Kingdom! And what’s even weirder is that it’s still available for Disney World’s other three parks. It is pretty rare to see this skip-the-line pass sell out at Animal Kingdom, so let’s just say we’re kinda scratching our heads right now. Animal Kingdom Now, maybe there’s a reason for this. Maybe these folks who’ve bought it have the park hopping option added to their ticket and are planning on hopping over to ANOTHER park later. See, you can buy Lightning Lane Multi Pass in Animal Kingdom (which is the park where it’s generally the cheapest) and then hop over to another park and continue to use it, even if the price for Multi Pass is higher for that park (and you don’t get charged the difference). Animal Kingdom Perhaps it’s that everyone who’s visiting this week is still trying to get a ride on Dinosaur before it goes away forever to make way for Animal Kingdom’s new land, Pueblo Esperanza. Or maybe Animal Kingdom is suddenly really popular right now because people are finally figuring out how awesome it is (and, hey, it’s AJ’s favorite park, so we get it). In the meantime, Animal Kingdom may be your only choice if you don’t have a date-based ticket on New Year’s Eve (for example, if you’re an Annual Passholder) — that’s because Disney World’s other three parks are out of park pass reservations for that date. ©Disney Whatever the case, you can no longer buy Lightning Lane Multi Pass for Animal Kingdom today, so you’ve been warned. Think of it as Disney’s way of saying, “We miss you already. Come back soon!” Ask About Late Checkout Not ready to leave the magic behind? Sometimes 11 AM feels like way too early to head out, especially if your flight isn’t until later. Good news: Disney hotels often allow late checkouts. Hotel lobby You’ll need to ask the front desk or call Guest Services early in the morning on checkout day to see if they can extend your stay a bit longer. Keep in mind that late checkout isn’t guaranteed, so flexibility is key. But hey, it doesn’t hurt to ask – and sometimes an extra hour or two can make all the difference. Leave Your Bags with Bell Services Got a late flight or plans to hit the parks one last time? Instead of lugging your suitcases around, drop them off with Bell Services. Disney hotels offer complimentary luggage storage so you can enjoy the day hands-free. Whether you’re heading to Disney Springs, lounging by the pool, or squeezing in one last ride, this service is a lifesaver. Bell Services Just remember to leave a little extra time to pick up your bags before heading to the airport. Bell Services will take great care of your stuff, but you’ll want to avoid a last-minute rush. Double-Check Your Room (Especially the Fridge!) We’ve all been there: you’re halfway home when you realize you left your favorite souvenir mug, your phone charger, or (gasp) your leftovers in the fridge. Mini fridge Before you leave, take a moment to give your room one final sweep. Check all the usual suspects: Drawers Closets Under the bed The bathroom And yes, the mini fridge! Those Mickey-shaped treats are just too magical to waste. Charge All Your Devices After days of navigating the My Disney Experience app, snapping photos, and so much more, your devices have probably been working overtime. The last thing you want is a dead phone at the airport when you need to check in, confirm your flight, or call for a ride. ©WBLM.com Plug in everything (phones, tablets, portable chargers) the night before and give them a final top-off in the morning. Trust us, future you will thank you when you’re stress-free at the gate. Schedule Your Rideshare in Advance Speaking of the airport, don’t wait until the last minute to arrange your ride. Orlando International Airport (MCO) can get busy, and the last thing you want is to scramble for an Uber or Lyft while balancing bags and saying goodbye to Mickey. ©Uber Most rideshare apps let you schedule a pickup in advance (even up to 90 days in advance), so you’ll have a driver ready and waiting when you are. Here’s how it works on Uber: Open the app and click the “Reserve” button on the “Services” screen. Choose your pickup time and location. Confirm your reservation (you can even cancel up to 60 minutes before without penalties). Scheduling a ride can save you from unnecessary stress and ensure you get to the airport on time. Breeze Through Airport Security with TSA PreCheck Nothing kills the post-Disney buzz faster than a long, chaotic security line at Orlando International Airport (MCO). If you travel frequently, investing in TSA PreCheck is a no-brainer. It costs $78 for a five-year membership ($70 for online renewals), and the perks are pretty great – no removing your shoes, belts, or laptops, and usually a much shorter line. ©AP For the best experience, apply for TSA PreCheck well before your trip. Once approved, add your Known Traveler Number (KTN) to your flight reservation, and you’ll sail through security faster than you can say “Expedition Everest.” Skip the Line with MCO Reserve Not into TSA PreCheck? You can still skip the regular security line at MCO with MCO Reserve. This free service allows you to book a time slot for an exclusive security checkpoint line, and it’s definitely a game-changer during peak travel times. ©Orlando International Airport The reservations open 72 hours before your flight, and spots fill up quickly, so set a reminder to snag your slot as soon as possible. It’s one less thing to stress about on travel day, and it gives you more time to grab a coffee or browse the airport shops. Orlando International Airport Checking out of your Disney World hotel doesn’t have to be stressful. If you can keep these unwritten rules in mind, you’ll leave feeling organized, prepared, and maybe even a little ahead of the game. Swimming in Disney World may not be your first priority during the winter months of the year when it’s chillier, but come spring, summer, and fall, it’s a great way to keep cool on your resort day or take a quick dip when you get back from a long day at the parks. Stormalong Bay at Disney’s Beach Club There are a lot of fantastic pools around Disney World, but one that’s considered to the best of the best is Stormalong Bay Pool at Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resorts. Yes, both resorts share the pool, but it’s certainly big enough! This pool features incredible amenities like a sand pool bottom, a waterslide, and so much more. However, if you’re planning to visit in 2025, there’s something you need to know — it’s going to be CLOSED for half the year! That’s right, Stormalong Bay is closing in Disney World from January-June 2025, although we don’t know specific dates just yet. We do know this closure will be to do regular maintenance on the pool, and in the meantime, the Tidal, Admiral, and Dunes Cove leisure pools will still be open for swimming. Stormalong Bay This also means that there will likely be some more noise around the resort while this construction is going on, but it will likely all take place during daytime hours, so while napping kiddos and adults may be affected, others shouldn’t have any sort of issue! Stormalong Bay We’ll be sure to keep you updated on all the latest construction news around the resort, so stay tuned to DFB! Magic Kingdom Is Already SOLD OUT for 3 Dates in 2025!
