Drink up me hearties — and thank the Phoenicians! During Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro realized there were just too many announcements to get through and too short a time on stage. Needing a little assistance, Josh called in friends Darren Criss and Skylar Astin to rapid-fire through some exciting updates before continuing on with the show. Set to some catchy and thematically appropriate tunes, the duo announced a brand new lounge and shared details on a previously announced tavern, both coming soon to Walt Disney World Resort! So next time you’re looking to take a load off (and relive any miraculous journeys you’ve just taken or plunder you’ve come across), there will soon be two new locations to check out. Here’s what else you need to know: New Lounge Inspired by Spaceship Earth For over 40 years, Spaceship Earth has welcomed visitors to EPCOT as a shining beacon of optimism and hope. This just-announced lounge is inspired by the stories, shapes, and enduring legacy of this timeless icon. Taking inspiration from the geometric sphere, the zen space for families to gather and enjoy refreshments will be draped with rich textures and warm metallic tones, giving it a mysterious and elegant intimacy. Updates to Tavern Themed to Pirates of the Caribbean Set course for the Magic Kingdom! First announced at Destination D23 last year, this rambunctious watering hole will offer a welcoming haven for all pirate-kind, big and small, and everyone in between. Here, bandits and buccaneers-to-be from every corner of the seven seas are welcome to join together and raise a toast to the pirate life! In the newly released artwork, X marks the spot for a sea-worthy selection of grogs and grub inside this tavern location coming to Magic Kingdom Park. Both spaces will welcome their first guests in 2025. Who knows what our collective imagination will think up next. Follow along every step of the way on the Disney Parks Blog and get a behind-the-scenes peek at what we’re dreaming up by following Imagineering on Instagram. Want to catch up on everything? As Walt Disney once said, “When we consider a new project, we really study it—not just the surface idea, but everything about it. And when we go into that new project, we believe in it all the way. We have confidence in our ability to do it right. And we work hard to do the best possible job.” On stage during Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro gave a small glimpse of a fitting tribute coming to Disneyland. For the first time ever, when it debuts in 2025, you’ll actually be able to see Walt Disney through the magic of Audio-Animatronics technology in “Walt Disney – A Magical Life.” Walt Disney Imagineering’s first Audio-Animatronics figure of Walt Disney is being created for this very special experience. “I speak for our entire team when I say there is so much pride and excitement for everyone involved in this endeavor,” Josh told the crowd. The past, present and future are coming together, giving visitors the chance to imagine what it would be like to stop by Walt’s office. Who knows what he might be dreaming up inside? Only time will tell with Walt. “Walt Disney – A Magical Life” will debut inside the Main Street Opera House, and after its initial run, the attraction will play in rotation with “Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln.” A fitting acknowledgement of Walt’s significant advances with Audio-Animatronics about 60 years ago when he first introduced the groundbreaking technology. “Creating our first Walt figure is a huge responsibility, and we’ve brought members of the Disney family along with us for every step of the journey,” Josh continued on stage. “His great-nephew, Roy P. Disney, visited the Imagineering campus recently to see our progress. And he’s here tonight. Thank you, Roy, for helping us fulfill this dream.” Who knows what our collective imagination will think up next. An adventure like never before will soon roar to life at Disneyland Paris! Everybody look left … everybody look right … everywhere you look, the classic Walt Disney Animation Studios film “The Lion King” was in the spotlight during Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event. As Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro explained, a brand-new attraction themed around Simba and the rest of the animal kingdom will soon join the expanding roster of experiences at the resort. Disneyland Paris’ second park, which is being re-named Disney Adventure World, has already seen a handful of recent exciting updates including the opening of Avengers Campus and Worlds of Pixar, and will continue with the opening of World of Frozen in 2026. “The Lion King” — which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year — has long been a beloved Disney story. A new area of the park, Pride Lands, will be dedicated to the characters and stories from the film, including dining, shopping, and a chance to meet some favorite characters. Then, when you’re ready (you don’t have to wait to become a king for this one), head down to the caverns beneath Pride Rock. The new attraction will bring you alongside Simba’s journey from cub to king — it’s going to feel like you stepped right into the movie. Who knows what our collective imagination will think up next. Picture this: you’re nestled on Main Street, U.S.A. with your loved ones getting ready to watch a nighttime parade come to life right before your eyes. Maybe you’ve got a churro or a Mickey Ice Cream bar in hand, or are eyeing a nearby popcorn cart, who knows! But the lights dim, the music swells, and now you’re watching a brand-new nighttime spectacular at the Magic Kingdom Park. You don’t have to imagine this for much longer, because in summer 2025, a brand-new parade will make its way to the Most Magical Place On Earth. Broadway darlings — and former Disney Live Entertainment Cast Members! — Rachel Potter and Eden Espinosa graced the D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event stage during Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase panel with this monumental announcement. The all-new parade “Disney Starlight” is coming next summer! “Disney Starlight” will continue the nighttime spectacular legacy started by the “Main Street Electrical Parade” using the latest technology to tell new stories about the characters you love. All of this is brought to life by the magic of the Blue Fairy, in addition to beloved characters from Walt Disney Animation Studios films “Peter Pan,” “Encanto,” “Frozen,” and more. And, if you’re hoping for more new spectaculars around the world, you’re in luck! The new nighttime spectacular “Reach for the Stars” debuts at Tokyo Disneyland on September 20. Coming in January 2025, Disneyland Paris will also unveil its own new nighttime spectacular with timeless songs from Disney and Pixar. This moving journey will be told through projections on Sleeping Beauty Castle and – for the first time – down Main Street. Who knows what our collective imagination will think up next. Seize your moment! The most villainous musician who ever died grabbed the spotlight at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event for a once-in-a-lifetime performance for the crowd. Welcome to the stage Ernesto de la Cruz! So, ok, his performance at Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase might have been interrupted by a very big announcement. Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro took the stage to reveal that an all-new attraction themed to Pixar Animation Studios’ “Coco” is coming to Disney California Adventure in the future. The attraction will be filled with the characters — and music! — you know and love from the beloved movie, as you join Miguel on a trip to the land of the dead. This marks the first-ever “Coco” ride in a Disney park! Walt Disney Imagineering will draw inspiration for the attraction from beloved classics, like Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean. “We’re bringing our skeletal cast of characters to life in a big way through the latest Audio-Animatronics technology,” Josh told the crowd. “These figures will appear in ways you’ll have to see to believe.” Get ready to celebrate everything you know and love about the movie, and music, with work beginning on the attraction in 2026! Pack your bags, we’re heading to Pandora! In the future, you’ll be greeting everyone with Oel ngati kameie — that’s “I see you” in Na’vi — when this all-new exciting destination arrives at the Disneyland Resort with awe-inspiring sights and experiences. As Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro announced during Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, we’re venturing further into Pandora with a new destination at Disney California Adventure. While Pandora—The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is based on Oscar-winner James Cameron’s “Avatar” film, this new destination draws inspiration from “Avatar: The Way of Water” and upcoming Avatar films to bring Pandora to life in a brand-new way. I joined Josh on stage to dive deeper into the new space including how guests will go on the adventure of a lifetime in search of majestic natural wonders that can only be found on Pandora and the beauty – and danger – that come along with the journey. This new and thrilling excursion will bring all the action, excitement, and wonder of Avatar, taking guests all the way to the wide-open seas of Pandora. This is going to be a dynamic, intense and emotional experience on a grand scale that we know our guests will love. Ready to explore this breathtaking experience worthy of these epic stories? Sivako! We’re about a year away from the grand opening of Universal Orlando’s third park, Epic Universe. ©Universal We’ve learned just about everything about the new park’s lands, including details about How to Train Your Dragon — Isle of Berk, Super Nintendo World, Dark Universe, and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter — Ministry of Magic. We also have a lot of details about the first land visitors will see when they step into the new park, Celestial Park. However, we now have more details about a nighttime show coming to Celestial Park — and it sounds amazing. Director of Universal Creative, Catherynne Jean recently spoke about the nighttime show coming to Celestial Park. So the idea of Celestial Park is actually stellar, but also includes elements of Greek mythology. So the concept is that by day, Apollo rules the park, but at night, the goddess Luna takes over and is in charge of the “luminescense of the night.” So the two have an exchange when day becomes night. Okay, y’all, this already sounds SO COOL. ©Universal So there will be a ceremony with “beautiful music” that will slowly brighten the lights in the park, growing “with the swells of the music until we have a burst of light,” followed by a “dance of light” throughout everything, including the foliage, the buildings, etc. ©Universal Once the ceremony is complete, Celestial Park will have its lighting ready for the night. Jean mentioned that the dance of lights won’t continue, but that there will still be these “beautiful lights” illuminating the park. ©Universal Celestial Park will also include a racing coaster called Stardust Racers that will not have ANY of its own lighting at night, although the trains will include onboard audio and lights, which should create the effect that the ride vehicles are shooting through the night sky like comets. ©Universal Epic Universe is set to open in 2025, and we’ll be keeping an eye out for a more specific opening timeline and date, so stay tuned to DFB for more. In front of the convention center There are still two more days to go at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, and we know we’re getting MORE exciting announcements over the course of the next 48 hours. The first big announcement was the official trailer for Moana 2! This new film is set to release in theaters on November 27th, and The Rock and Auli’i Cravalho even made an appearance to celebrate the new film. Check out the official trailer below! We also got a name for the third Avatar film! The new film is set to release on December 19th, 2025 and will be called Avatar: Fire and Ash. According to director James Cameron, “the new film is not what you expect, but it’s definitely what you want.” ©Disney For all the Disney Channel fans out there, we got a sneak peek at the new Wizards Beyond Waverly Place! Disney released a teaser trailer which combines behind-the-scenes footage and material from the series. The new series focuses on Justin, who has given up his powers for a normal life with his family, but he gets pulled back into the world of magic by a young wizard named Billie who seeks his help. ©Disney While we knew Toy Story 5 was set to come out on June 19th, 2026 and would be directed by Andrew Stanton, but now we know that Andrew Stanton is also writing the new film! As for the storyline, we now know that the toys will have to go head to head with electronics, making their jobs harder than ever — it’s always been their job to be there for the kids. Toys must compete with electronics in ‘Toy Story 5’ Pixar also announced a new film for 2026! It’s called Hoppers and will star Jon Hamm, Bobby Moynihan, and Piper Curda. Those are all the details we have so far, but we’re looking forward to hearing more about it in the future. ©Disney And for Inside Out fans, we have great news! The series will take place in between the Inside Out films and will follow the Dream Studio within Riley’s mind that was featured in both films. Take a photo with the emotions! We also got the news that Incredibles 3 is in the works! At this time, we have no details other than we know it’s coming, but we can’t wait to hear more! ©Disney We also got some news about Pixar’s Elio, which was originally set to release in 2024, but was pushed back to June 13th, 2025. The film follows Elio, “an underdog with an active imagination, finds himself inadvertently beamed up to the Communiverse, an interplanetary organization with representatives from galaxies far and wide. Mistakenly identified as Earth’s ambassador to the rest of the universe, he starts to form new bonds with eccentric aliens while discovering who he’s truly meant to be.” ©Pixar The trailer for Pixar’s series called Win or Lose was also released! The show will become available on December 6th — According to Disney, “the intertwined stories of eight different characters as they each prepare for their big championship softball game. The series reveals what it actually feels like to be in the shoes of each character—the insecure kids, their helicopter parents, even a lovesick umpire—with incredibly funny, very emotional and uniquely animated perspectives. Directed, written and executive produced by Carrie Hobson and Michael Yates, and produced David Lally.” Frozen fans were also thrilled to hear an update on Frozen 3 and Frozen 4! It was confirmed that Frozen 3 will be released in 2027, and Frozen 4 was confirmed as well! Disney also revealed that a filmed version of the Frozen Broadway musical will arrive on Disney+ in 2025! ‘Frozen 3’ We also learned that a Broadway adaptation of The Greatest Showman is on the way! ©Disney AND the stage adaptation of Hercules is coming to London’s West End as well! ©Disney It was also confirmed that Zootopia 2 is on the way! The film is coming to theaters in November 2025 and Ginnifer Goodwin, the voice of Judy Hopps was in person to discuss the sequel. We do also know that one of the new characters will be a reptile named Gary, voiced by Oscar-winner Ke Huy Quan, and we know that when we first meet Gary, he’s a wanted reptile that Judy and Nick are trying to find. ‘Zootopia 2’ We also got a new trailer for Agatha All Along, which releases on Disney+ on September 18th, 2024. We also got a trailer for the new Star Wars series Skeleton Crew, which revealed Jude Law as our newest Jedi! There will be a two episode premiere on December 3rd on Disney+. Disney World will continue to see closures this coming week. Magic Kingdom We’ve been keeping tabs on several closures around Disney World for a while now. While nothing new will close this week, several attractions, restaurants, and an entire water park will be closed the week of August 10th through August 17th. If you’re headed to the parks, be aware that a few rides, shows, and restaurants will not be open and operating. Let’s take a look at what will be closed this coming week! Magic Kingdom Peter Pan’s Flight One of Magic Kingdom’s most popular rides closed for refurbishment on July 8th! Peter Pan’s Flight Peter Pan’s Flight will be closed until August 21st. While Disney hasn’t commented on the closure, a permit filed for the ride indicates some general construction. We’ll be keeping our eyes open for any more information concerning any changes coming to this popular ride! Lies About Magic Kingdom You Thought Were True Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade We had to say goodbye to an opening day attraction on June 23rd. The Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade is closed The Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade was around for generations and provided simple fun to all who played. Now, the attraction has closed to make room for a new Disney Vacation Club lounge. This lounge will be the third in Disney World, joining one in EPCOT and one at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. Disney has not yet announced when the new lounge will open. Can a $1 Addition “Fix” This Magic Kingdom Dessert? Tomorrowland Terrace Tomorrowland Terrace is a quick-service restaurant that has been closed since the 2020 pandemic-related closures, but even before that, this spot was only occasionally open. Tomorrowland Terrace Once in a while, you’ll see the dining room open as a rest area (and it’s still being used for the Magic Kingdom Fireworks Dessert Parties), but it’s usually all roped off and empty. Beautiful view from Tomorrowland Terrace Disney hasn’t announced when this spot could finally reopen, but we’ll be watching for updates. If you’re looking for a nice spot to hang out in Disney World and sit down for a rest, this could be it! EPCOT Test Track Test Track closed on June 17th, and Disney is giving this ride a BIG makeover! Test Track under construction Disney has shared that the new version of Test Track will take inspiration from the old ride, World of Motion, that was originally there when the park opened in 1982. Other than that, Disney hasn’t shared many other details about the project. We don’t even have a reopening date yet, but we’ll be watching for more updates. Restaurant Marrakesh Restaurant Marrakesh is currently closed as a dining location in the Morocco pavilion of EPCOT’s World Showcase, and there’s no word yet on when the restaurant could fully reopen. Restaurant Marrakesh However, it opens from time to time as a KidCot station and a lounge. So if you’re in the Morocco Pavilion, check it out to see if it’s open. We’re watching for updates on when the full restaurant could reopen! We’re Getting Worried About This Practically ABANDONED Building in EPCOT Disney’s Hollywood Studios Voyage of the Little Mermaid Voyage of the Little Mermaid is currently closed in Disney World. We recently spotted some construction walls up at the show! Voyage of the Little Mermaid Disney is going to introduce a new, updated show in this spot, though it will still be themed to the animated movie The Little Mermaid! The new show will be called “The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure” and is coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Fall 2024. ©Disney It will be a “fully reimagined theatrical production inspired by the Walt Disney Animation Studios classic.” 50 AMAZING Things You Never Knew Were in Disney’s Hollywood Studios Blizzard Beach Blizzard Beach closed for refurbishment on March 17th. Blizzard Beach While Blizzard Beach is closed, Typhoon Lagoon is currently open. The two water parks often rotate off and on for being open. Disney has not announced when Blizzard Beach might reopen. We’ll be watching for any updates, though! Click here to learn all about Typhoon Lagoon Disney World Hotels World Premiere Food Court — Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort The World Premiere Food Court at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort has been undergoing refurbishment throughout July. World Premiere Food Court This food court closed for refurbishment on July 1st and was set to reopen on July 31st. However, a change on the Disney World website and speaking with Cast Members has indicated that did not happen. A Cast Member we spoke with said the construction is taking longer than expected and the food court likely won’t open until this fall or even later. While it has been getting a face-lift, guests have been able to mobile order from a limited menu on the Disney World app, and seating in the food court is still available. Everything POP Shopping & Dining — Disney’s Pop Century Resort Everything Pop is amid its own refurbishment. Everything Pop Food Court Starting July 29th, Everything Pop will be getting some work done. The refurbishment is set to last until September 29th. However, while the work is being done, guests can still use the Disney World app to mobile order food. You may need to use alternate entrances to access the food court and seating may be limited. Barbados Leisure Pool The Barbados leisure pool will be closed at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort from July 29th through the end of September 2024. Construction at the Barbados pool This resort is organized into villages and each area has its own leisure pool. Halloween season has officially kicked off in Disney World, along with the Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party in Magic Kingdom. We’re checking OUT everything we can at the party, but most importantly, we’re trying the FOOD. Mickey at Town Square Theater The party runs on select nights from August 9th through October 31st, and there is a lot to see, do, and more importantly…eat! A ticket will get you the opportunity to meet rare characters, see exclusive entertainment, ride your favorite attractions with shorter wait times, and get exclusive snacks. Well, we came for the snacks, so let’s check some out! Before we get into it, be sure to check out the FULL list of food that is available at the 2024 events. We’re trying nearly ALL of the new food, so let’s get into it! Photos AND Reviews: ALL the 2024 Fall and Halloween Treats in Disney World! We are heading over to Pinocchio Village Haus to try some party-exclusive creepy snacks, including the Creepy Clam Flatbread with bacon, black ink pesto, Romano, and Calabrian chile aïoli for $13.79, and yes, we have some reservations about this one. Creepy Clam Flatbread And we were right to have some reservations because WHY?! We were expecting a strong clam flavor, which was strange enough, but what threw us off the most was that flavor mixed with the bacon! While it really didn’t have the best first impression, we have to admit that we ended up enjoying the black ink pesto and chile aioli. In fact, if it just had those two things, we’d order it again, but as it stands, it’s a one and done for us. A slice of Creepy Clam Flatbread If those flavors seem like a bit TOO much, you can also get the party-exclusive Spicy Meatball Arrabbiata Flatbread, made with Meatballs, spicy tomato sauce, provolone, Calabrian chiles, and basil pesto for $13.29. Spicy Meatball Arrabbiata Flatbread You know how we talk about “Disney spice,” meaning that things Disney says are spicy really aren’t? Well this is NOT that — it is SPICY! There are red pepper flakes sprinkled all over, so that mixed with the spicy tomato sauce gives this treat a real solid kick. The meatballs were average, making this overall a decent choice AS LONG as you’re okay with that spice! If you’re spice adverse, stay far away. Take a bite of flatbread! You can also order the Sweet and Spicy Chicken Strips tossed in Korean barbecue sauce and topped with black sesame seeds, fried garlic, and green onions for $9.99. Sweet and Spicy Chicken Strips These may look basic compared to the other absolutely wild options on the menu, but we’re not complaining! It’s pretty hard to go wrong with chicken tenders in a theme park (but it IS possible), and this sauce was fantastic and really elevated these. If you love sweet and sour sauce, you’ll love the tangy flavor of these. Let’s eat! For dessert, there’s the Swinging Wake Cake, a Vanilla cake with fruity cereal mousse for $5.49. Swinging Wake Cake We were a little scared hearing the words “fruity cereal mousse” together, but it was genuinely really good! It tasted more like cheesecake to us, even though it says it’s made with vanilla cake and mousse. We will admit though that we weren’t a fan of the odd aftertaste, but that very much could be due to the black food coloring used for the outside (which does often have a strange taste). Inside Wash all those spooky snacks down with the Boo Raspberry Slushy, a Blue raspberry slushy with marshmallow foam, and a marshmallow ghost for $6.29. Boo Raspberry Slushy Honestly, this tasted more like cotton candy to us than blue raspberry, so if you love cotton candy, go for it! It was a little too sweet for us, so we likely won’t be getting it again, but kiddos may love it. It’s one thing to go to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and it’s another to do it in STYLE.
