We LOVE sailing with the Disney Cruise Line, but there’s still one aspect of the voyage that can be kind of confusing. Disney’s Private Island Castaway Cay Disney’s Castaway Cay is a private island in The Bahamas owned by Disney that serves as an exclusive port for the Disney Cruise Line. Castaway Cay is rich with clear-blue waters ideal for swimming, boasts plenty of fun activities for the whole family, and is home to the adult-exclusive Serenity Bay, a tropical oasis reserved for guests 18 years of age and older. Featuring dedicated dining and private cabanas, this spot is a popular getaway area for adults and parents looking for some quiet and relaxing alone time away from the kiddos. However, getting to Serenity Bay can be a little complicated. Castaway Cay utilizes a tram system to navigate the island and there are four tram stops in total. On paper, it’s pretty straightforward, but those who have experienced Castaway Cay know it’s not that simple, especially if your destination is Serenity Bay. Castaway Cay tram stop If you plan on getting on a tram and taking it all the way to Serenity Bay, you’ll be sorely disappointed. Serenity Bay sign To get to Serenity Bay via tram, you actually have to get off at the stop at Pelican Point. From there, you’ll then wait for a specific tram with a sign that reads Serenity Bay. Adult-only beach at Castaway Cay You’ll still experience four stops with this free tram, but definitely be advised that this specific transfer is necessary to reach Serenity Bay. This transfer is often confusing for guests and this tip is super helpful to know before your visit. We’ve been confused about it in the past and now that it’s all cleared up, we want you to know about it so you can make the most out of your time at Castaway Cay! Relax on a beach! Castaway Cay offers visitors premium family leisure, including sprawling beaches, lagoons teeming with sea life, water play areas, walking trails, open-air BBQ dining locations serving complimentary meals, gift shops, and even appearances by popular Disney characters! ©Disney Some fun activities on the island in addition to Serenity Bay include Castaway Family Beach, the Snorkeling Lagoon, the twisting water slides of Pelican Plunge, Teen Hideout, the In Da Shade Game Pavilion, the Sports Beach, boat and water sport rentals, and more Disney fun! The latest treats at Disney World seem to be fit for a king! Regal meal! With all of the latest buzz surrounding Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King feature film in theaters, we figured it was only a matter of time until we saw the movie reflected in the Disney World parks. We knew to anticipate a few new treats coming (with one we already were raving about) but no one could have prepared us for the tasty journey we were about to embark on! An exclusive line of eats and treats has taken Disney World with a thunderous roar! We recently ventured out across Disney World to hunt down and try these newest snacks. Most of these snacks can be found at several restaurants in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Disney’s Animal Kingdom So, we set out on a mid-day adventure to sample these latest additions to the menus and see if they’ll be worth your time to pick up, too! When we arrived we couldn’t ignore the call of our raging sweet tooth so it was off to Creature Comforts first! Creature Comforts is the resident Starbucks inside Disney’s Animal Kingdom and in addition to their familiar coffees and decorative drinks, they’re known to be a popular location for limited-time snacks and seasonal sweets. Creature Comforts Here is where we picked up the Mufasa Pride Rock Profiterole for $4.79. It’s a small treat made of cream puff filled with chocolate cream and whipped coffee ganache. Mufasa Pride Rock Profiterole Don’t let its tiny size fool you — this treat knows just how to be the leader of the pack! Sure it’s smaller than we would have liked but the inside of the profiterole is what really made this puffy treat. When you cut it open, the chocolate cream bursts out of the puff pastry casing and it is delicious! So goopy on the inside It doesn’t have a very heavy chocolate flavor to it and almost was more whipped than mousse-like in consistency. This flavor was complimented well by the light coffee-flavored whipped ganache that felt more like a whipped icing. The chocolate crisp pearls also helped provide a fun crunch to the bite and the white chocolate medallion was printed with the iconic Pride Rock where The Lion King roars from. You’ll want to eat it with a fork The only fault we could find with this treat was that we wanted it to be larger so its sweetness lasted longer than a few bites but we think it will be a hit with adults and kids alike. As we went about our day we decided we really should treat ourselves to something of a little more sustenance for lunchtime. Our search led us to Harambe Market! You can either wait in line to order at the window or place a mobile order for your meal and come to the middle window once the app shows your order is ready. Harambe Market We couldn’t get past how beautiful the Sunrise Of The Kingdom looked put together. It’s made of a blend of Freshly Brewed Green Tea, Strawberry, and Minute Maid® Premium Lemonade topped with Passion Fruit Boba Pearls for $6.49. Sunrise Of The Kingdom Honestly, it really wasn’t anything super special but the mixture of the ingredients in this one really worked for what they wanted to achieve for this drink. We were able to pick up the subtle notes of the green tea but most of the drink held strong to the strawberry and lemonade flavors. The passion fruit boba pearls were a fun fruity addition to the top but we’d recommend either swirling your drink around if you want a popping surprise every now and then with your sip or scooping them up with a spoon for a flavor explosion in your mouth! The Savory Tanzanian Pie was next up on our list! This dish was made of African-spiced beef and lamb stuffed in naan, drizzled with spicy ketchup, and served with house-made chips for $13.29. Savory Tanzanian Pie The entree itself seemed a bit pricy to us until we took our first bite! The meat pie was a hearty mixture of sauce, spices, and chewy bits of beef and lamb made all the better by the spicy ketchup drizzled on top! Just the pie We were shocked at how well it held its form and the naan bread was perfectly toasted to give it a taste and consistency like pizza crust surrounding the pie’s contents. Half of the pie It’s served with a side of house-made chips which tasted a bit stale but their saving grace was that they were tossed in spices which gave the chips a salty yet spiced zing to them! Spiced house-made chips It truly was almost a perfect movie-themed lunch! With critics already singing the praises of Disney’s newest film it’s clear that the choices made for its accompanying snacks and treats needed to be of the same quality. While there was a little room for improvement, we would totally have reordered everything we tried today time and time again. We’re always watching out for (and reviewing) the latest eats and treats popping up around Disney World! Be sure to stay with us at Disney Food Blog for more. Traveling is stressful enough. Orlando International Airport Between booking your trip, getting to the airport, checking your bags, going through security, and boarding your flight, you are already exhausted by the time you get on the plane. You are probably just ready to watch a movie, read a good book, and maybe even take a nap, but when you get to your assigned seat, you are surprised to find someone already sitting in it. This is a brand new trend that is hitting airplanes, and it is called “seat squatting.” When booking air travel, more desirable seats, such as seats in first class, business class, or aisle and window seats, are much more sought after and often cost more. This is especially the case for seats towards the front of the plane. In some cases, there are even upcharges for seats with extra legroom, and depending on the airline you fly, some seats may even include alcohol. All of this costs an additional fee, and if you plan ahead and fork over the extra cash for these perks, you should be able to enjoy them. Let’s fly! “Seat squatting” is a new trend that has started to take over social media, and those affected by it have taken to Reddit to share their experiences. “Seat squatting” is when a person who has a less desirable seat, like a middle seat, chooses to sit in a more desirable seat, like an aisle seat with extra legroom, in the hopes that no one has booked the seat. Inside an airplane These “seat squatters” hope that they can have a better seat without having to pay the price, but sometimes, it does not go according to plan. One user on Reddit shared that they received a first-class upgrade and were shocked that a “seat squatter” had already tried to claim the first-class seat and the flight attendant had already served them a drink. Airplane Other times, “seat squatters” can try to make a deal with you to stay in your seat. This is entirely up to your discretion as to whether or not you wish to switch seats with them, as it should at least be a fair enough trade, especially if you planned ahead and paid extra for the seat. Window seat Airlines are shifting toward premium seating offerings as Southwest, which was known for its no-frills fares and open seating policy, will soon start offering extra legroom seats along with assigned seats. Southwest This new trend can add stress to a traveler’s day, as they should not have to worry about someone squatting in their seat. Happy holidays and Merry Christmas! It’s officially the week of Christmas, and we’re hitting the parks to enjoy all the festive activities. Christmas at Magic Kingdom The week of Christmas is one of the busiest times of the year. Many people enjoy spending the holidays with friends and family at the Disney World resort. It truly is one of the most magical places on Earth to celebrate Christmas. You can celebrate at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, Jollywood Nights, and the EPCOT Festival of the Holidays. You can enjoy special holiday treats and the jolliest holiday atmosphere ever. But when we say that this time of year is BUSY, we really mean it. Here’s a bit of proof for ya! We stopped by Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Magic Kingdom on the Monday before Christmas, December 23rd, and what do you think we found at both of these parks? Why, crowds of people, of course! Magic Kingdom is usually the busiest park out of all four, but we saw TONS of people enjoying their wild side at Animal Kingdom. The line to get into the park was VERY long this morning when we got there! Animal Kingdom entrance crowds As we walked into the park, the crowds dispersed a bit, but we could tell the park was definitely on the busier side. Crowds at Animal Kingdom When we wandered over to Pandora, there was a very long line for Flight of Passage! The wait time showed 150 minutes, and there were two different sections where Cast Members were ushering and holding crowds to pass through the line. It was a lot of people! Line for Flight of Passage in Pandora Then, up in the Africa section of the park, the line for Kilimanjaro Safaris wrapped around Tusker House (which is not very close to the entrance of the ride). A wait time of 70 minutes was listed, but we would bet it was probably more based on where the line began. Line for Kilimanjaro Safaris Animal Kingdom was busy, for sure! But what were things like over at Magic Kingdom? Well, when we got there, the lines for the Monorail at the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC) were REALLY long! Cast Members had placed ropes outside of the queue for the extended line. Line for the Monorail It took us about 11 minutes to get through security, and then it took about 36 minutes to get on the Monorail and get to Magic Kingdom. Monorail line Once we were inside Magic Kingdom, the crowds were definitely there. We aren’t surprised by the amount of people in the park, but it’s definitely a busy day, similar to what a busy weekend looks like at the park. Main Street, U.S.A. crowds As the week continues, we expect these crowds to continue to increase. Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve will likely be the busiest days of the year, as Magic Kingdom often fills to capacity on these days. Lightning Lane Premier Pass has also sold out for most of the days in the upcoming week at Magic Kingdom, so that may be an indication of how busy these parks are likely to be. 2 Days till Christmas! We’ll be at the parks over the holidays to check out crowds and more, so keep following DFB for more Christmas updates! Magic Kingdom Is Already SOLD OUT for 3 Dates in 2025! Say it ain’t so! A Guinness The holiday season might be a bit less enjoyable for revelers in the U.K. — and maybe further — thanks to a shortage of the iconic beer Guinness. According to various reports, a surprise “surge in demand” has left many of the United Kingdom’s pubs in short supply of the iconic spirit as the busy holiday season looms. Meanwhile, The Guardian reports that Diageo is tapping into their Irish “security stocks” and putting shipments initially bound for North America on standby for potential distribution to the U.K. A Guinness mug For their part, the company released a statement that read, “We are producing more Guinness today than we ever have in our 265-year history, and we continue to work closely with customers across our network to manage Guinness distribution as efficiently as possible, ensuring we maximize supply and minimize disruptions for pubs and retailers.” Don’t Forget to Order a Pint! However, there are some who believe that the shortage may be a calculated move to further improve the buzz around the brand, which has benefitted greatly from social media exposure in recent years. In fact, some have attributed Guinness becoming the best-selling beer in Britain in recent years to the viral “splitting the G” challenge, where drinkers attempt to down enough Guinness in a single gulp so that the beer sits halfway “across the G” on a branded glass. Beer mug Guinness appears to be dealing with a shortage of their iconic beer in the United Kingdom, just as the Holiday season looms. Stay tuned to DFB for more! We can’t believe it, but we are DAYS away from Christmas! Park Pass Reservations have been becoming more and more scarce for Christmas week. Magic Kingdom Park Passes are sold out from December 24th through December 31st, Disney’s Hollywood Studios is sold out on December 27th, and EPCOT is sold out on December 31st. Magic Kingdom Some days in January are also selling out now, and we have ALL the details for you! Magic Kingdom is currently sold out of park pass reservations on January 1st, 2nd, AND 3rd. While most guests no longer need to make Park Pass Reservations, there are still select guests who need to make reservations. Cinderella Castle Anyone who buys a regular date-based ticket from Disney (either on its own or as part of a vacation package) no longer has to reserve their park visit in advance. However, Disney World Annual Passholders, Cast Members, student group tickets, Disney Military Salute tickets, and others still require reservations. Magic Kingdom But, there is some good news if you were hoping to go to Magic Kingdom on one of these days and need a reservation but don’t currently have one. You can still park hop to Magic Kingdom (if your ticket allow park hopping) after you have scanned into the park you have a reservation for. It has certainly been a tumultuous year when it comes to TV shows. If you’re a fan of TV, you’ll know that this year saw a lot of changes, including a TON of cancellations of shows that many thought were bonafide hits. A lot of TV shows are going through some things However, with streaming now the main way people watch TV, the metrics have changed, and it seems that if a show doesn’t take off immediately, its fate is up for grabs, so some shows will be airing their last seasons in 2025. But there have also been some announcements about other shows getting rebooted, getting sequels, or getting spin-offs that we’ll see in the coming year. So let’s take a look at what 2025 has in store for these shows. Reboots, Sequels, and Spin-Offs Malcolm in the Middle Nostalgia is real, and some shows just refuse to go away for good. But we admit that we were surprised when a new Malcolm in the Middle series was announced. The series is not so much a reboot as a sequel and brings back series stars Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston, and Jane Kaczmarek for four new episodes. ©Fox The show’s official description is: “Malcolm (Muniz) and his daughter are drawn into the family’s chaos when Hal (Cranston) and Lois (Kaczmarek) demand his presence for their 40th wedding anniversary party.” The Office Another surprise was the announcement that The Office would be returning to our TVs soon. Now, The Office most of us are familiar with (the U.S. version starring Steve Carrell) was actually a remake of the British The Office series. Now, this NEW series will be a spin-off of the U.S. series and, according to Variety, will feature a new office environment for its “documentary,” which will air on Peacock. ©NBC Here’s the official description: “The documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch is in search of a new subject when they discover a dying historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters.” The main cast will be led by Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore. King of the Hill After 14 years of being off our TV screens, King of the Hill is returning, according to TV Line. The show’s original voice actors, Mike Judge (Hank), Kathy Najimy (Peggy), and Pamela Adlon (Bobby) will return to the revival, which TV Line also reports could air early in 2025. The premiere date of the revival has not been confirmed, but it will air on Hulu. ©Fox Although the voice of Dale, Johnny Hardwick, passed away earlier this year, he was able to complete several episodes before his demise. Daredevil At one point, it seemed like the Netflix Marvel shows were forgotten and long since granted non-canon status in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, Disney+ has started to bring some of those characters back into the fold, including Daredevil, who will be getting a brand new series, Daredevil: Born Again set to debut on Disney+ on March 4th. ©Marvel Daredevil: Born Again will be a sequel to the Netflix Daredevil series and could set a precedent for bringing back some other characters from the Netflix Marvel shows. Canceled Shows The Conners According to The Hollywood Reporter, ABC decided to pick up The Conners for one final season, its seventh. This will also be the shortest season for the show with less than 10 episodes. The show was a spin-off of the Roseanne revival and has been ABC’s most-watched comedy for most of its run. ©ABC The final season of The Conners is set to air sometime in 2025. 9-1-1 Lone Star According to Variety, 9-1-1: Lone Star will end with its upcoming fifth season on Fox. The final season will have 12 episodes — the first premiered in September with the series finale set for early 2025. The show had previously moved from ABC to Fox. ©Fox Rob Lowe starred in 9-1-1 Lone Star as “a New York firefighter who, along with his adult son, relocates from Manhattan, to Austin to rebuild a firehouse which experienced a tragedy of their own.” Blood of Zeus Netflix’s animated series, Blood of Zeus has also been canceled. A third and final season, however, will air on Netflix in 2025, according to Deadline. Blood of Zeus tells a story about an epic war between gods, mortals, and demons that mashes up mythology with anime. ©Netflix “In Season Three, we are so excited to continue the story of Heron, Seraphim and the gods as they face their most dangerous adversaries yet, Typhon, Cronus and the Titans,” show creators Vlas Parlapanides and Charley Parlapanides said. Of course, this doesn’t even include shows that will be just be ending in 2025, like The Handmaid’s Tale on Hulu, Squid Game on Netflix (the second season premieres at the end of 2024 with a third season premiering in 2025), and Stranger Things on Netflix. Universal Studios Hollywood has been undergoing a large transformation as part of their Universal Evolution Plan. We are excited to see the new spaces and offerings being built on almost 400 acres of land! Universal Studios Hollywood The Universal Evolution Plan includes “additions to the existing studio, theme park, retail and entertainment uses including CityWalk, and the introduction of new hotels on approximately 391 acres in the Universal City area.” The initial vision plan for the Universal Evolution Plan was initially announced in 2006. The plans call for two new hotels to be built, one in the county as part of the Universal Studios Specific Plan and another hotel within the city as part of the Evolution Site Plan, according to the Evolution Plan. NBC Universal Evolution Plan Conceptual Plan ©NBC Universal One of the proposed hotels will be a 500-room hotel, which will be built just outside the entrance to Universal Studios Hollywood, according to KTLA. The new hotel is also known as Universal’s Project 515, and according to the Orange County Register, a permit was filed for construction in May 2023 that included more details of the 11-story hotel. There has been slow progress on the hotel project over the past several years, and the front-gate hotel project is still in the exploration phase. Universal Studios Hollywood It is currently anticipated to be a crescent-shaped hotel right across from the studio arch that frames the entrance to Universal Studios Hollywood. If you’ve been following along with us at DisneyFoodBlog, you might have gotten the impression that we have a personal vendetta against Disney World buses. And I get it. Disney Bus It feels like we’re always out here waving our caution flag, warning you about all the potential pitfalls of relying on those iconic (and free!) Disney buses for your transportation needs. But here’s the kicker: We actually like the Disney World buses! Yup, you heard that right. We like them. Let’s clear up the confusion, shall we? The Truth About Disney Buses Let me be straight with you. Disney buses aren’t always the fastest or most glamorous way to get from Point A to Point B in Disney World. Sometimes, they’re downright frustrating. That’s why we’re always quick to warn you about the realities of bus travel: long waits, crowded rides, and the sheer unpredictability of arrival times. But despite all that, there’s something about them that just works for us. Disney Bus Disney’s complimentary transportation system (buses included) offers a level of convenience that’s hard to beat. You don’t have to worry about navigating traffic, finding parking, or paying for a rideshare. All you need to do is just show up at your resort’s bus stop, hop on, and let Disney do the driving. Easy peasy lemon squeezy. The Downsides Are Real, But Manageable Now, let’s get the negatives out of the way first. I’m not going to sugarcoat it: buses can be a pain, especially during peak times. If you’ve ever tried to get a bus right after the fireworks, you know what I mean. Everyone and their Mickey ears are crammed into those shuttles, and when you’re squished up against strangers, it feels like you’re starring in a live-action version of “it’s a Small World” just minus the catchy song. Crowds boarding the bus at the TTC Or how about when you just miss a bus and get to spend the next 20 minutes contemplating life (and your Lightning Lane decisions) at the bus stop? Unfortunately, it just happens. Also, if you’re staying at a resort with an internal bus loop, like Caribbean Beach or Port Orleans, you might have to make multiple stops before even leaving your hotel property. Caribbean Beach bus stop But here’s the thing: you can work around these hiccups if you plan ahead. Give yourself extra time in the morning for rope drop. Use the My Disney Experience app to check real-time bus arrival estimates. And if the post-park crowds are too much, hang back for about 30 minutes to shop, grab a snack, or soak up those final magical moments before heading out. Why We Actually Like the Buses Now that we’ve addressed the (obvious) downsides, let me tell you why we’re still fans of Disney World buses. They’re Free: Let’s start with the big one – the price tag. Or rather, the lack of one. Disney’s buses are part of your overall vacation package. Considering how much you’re already spending on park tickets, hotels, and churros, getting a free ride feels like a win. They’re (Mostly) Reliable: Okay, so they’re not always punctual, but Disney has made significant improvements in recent years. The My Disney Experience app gives you estimated arrival times, which takes a lot of the guesswork out of bus travel. Plus, buses generally run every 20 minutes or so, which isn’t bad when you think about the scale of Disney World. They’re Part of the Experience: For us, there’s something nostalgic about stepping onto a Disney bus. It’s part of the Disney World rhythm. It’s the same way how hearing the monorail spiel or spotting the Skyliner gondolas makes you feel like you’ve truly arrived. The buses might not have the wow factor of those other transportation options, but they’re an essential piece of the Disney bubble. All aboard! When To Skip the Bus All of that being said, there are times when it’s worth spending a little extra for a rideshare. If you’ve got a dining reservation and you’re cutting it close? Grab an Uber or Lyft. Trying to make it to rope drop with zero stress? A rideshare might save you precious minutes (and peace of mind). But for the majority of your Disney World trip, the buses are going to be perfectly fine. Rideshare sign in Disney World Tips for Making the Most of Disney Buses Want to avoid the common pitfalls of Disney bus travel? Here are a few pro tips: Plan Ahead: For those early morning rides, aim to be at your bus stop at least 30–45 minutes before you need to be somewhere. This gives you a buffer just in case the first bus is full or running late. Avoid Peak Times: If possible, steer clear of buses immediately after park closing. The lines are longest then, and the buses are the most crowded. Instead, hang back and enjoy the quieter park atmosphere for a bit before heading out. Use the App: The My Disney Experience app is going to be your best friend for checking bus schedules and reducing wait times. Be Patient: As we said, the buses aren’t perfect, but they’re a solid option if you go in with realistic expectations. So, I hope it’s been clear that we don’t hate Disney World buses. We just want you to be prepared for what to expect so you can make the most of your vacation. And, when you take a step back and appreciate them for what they are, you’ll find that they’re actually pretty great. Santa is almost here! Christmas in Magic Kingdom We have celebrated the holidays for over a month now, thanks to Disney World’s festivities like Jollywood Nights and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas party. It’s our favorite time of the year and now even more spots in Disney World are getting in on the fun. They put presents out for all of the good horses and ponies and added jingle bells to their harnesses! Presents sparkled as holiday lights lit up the barn. Bows that reminded us of candy canes were added onto cheerful wreaths and poinsettias lined the halls. Disney horse We love seeing everyone, even the Disney animals, get in on the cheer just in time for Santa to make his annual trip across the globe. If you’re looking to meet Santa Claus in Disney World before he takes flight tomorrow night, you can find him in all four theme parks and Disney Springs! Santa in Animal Kingdom We can’t wait to see what all of the horses get for Christmas this year! I know a few of them have been asking for hay and a new bridle. A major piece of Florida’s theme park history is closing after over 80 years. ©Visit Central Florida More than 30 years before Disney World changed the landscape of Florida tourism forever, Cypress Gardens was the most famous attraction in the Sunshine State. Originally opened in 1936 by the legendary Pope Sr., the botanical garden and theme park was headlined by a water-skiing show that drew in millions of guests – – including some huge celebrities – – to see daredevil performers including Pope’s son Pope Jr. The show’s success popularized the sport, made the park’s home of Winter Haven the “water skiing capital of the world”, and put Florida on the metaphorical map for millions. The original iteration of Cypress Gardens closed in 2009, but the park and land was purchased by Merlin Entertainment, who refurbished the area into LEGOLAND Florida, which opened in 2011. A LEGO-themed version of the water-skiing show has been one of the park’s entertainment offerings…until now. In mid-December 2024, LEGOLAND confirmed that Brickbeard’s Watersport Stunt Show — the show’s current iteration — will be closing after a final performance on December 30th. ©Visit Central Florida In a statement, the park said that the show, “has been a beloved part of our history, creating lasting memories for families over the years. While we cherish this legacy, we are listening to our guests and our focus is on introducing new and dynamic experiences to continue creating family memories.” ©LEGOLAND At the time of the announcement, longtime Cypress Gardens and former water ski show director Mark Voisard told television station WFLA that he believed the closure was a cost-cutting measure, saying, “It wasn’t one of the top attractions at Legoland, so they ultimately had to make a business decision. It’s pretty sad for the area because people would go there and go, ‘I remember coming here as a kid.’” ©Visit Central Florida If you want to catch the final incarnation of this legendary water skiing show, you have ONE WEEK left to get to LEGOLAND Florida before the 80-year-old show disappears forever. Visiting Disney World can be overwhelming, no matter if you’ve never been there or you’ve been there multiple times. Joy at Pixar Plaza in Hollywood Studios! You see, there’s just so much to see and do, and there’s no way you can do it all in one trip unless you literally move to Disney World. But, hey, we go to Disney World almost every day, and we are STILL discovering new things to occupy our time in the parks and at the resorts. However, here’s the thing, FOMO can be a real thing when you’re there, and we’re going to warn you about it so you don’t fall into its trap. So what is FOMO, you may ask? Well, FOMO stands for “fear of missing out.” And Disney knows how to play on that feeling to get you to cough up even MORE money even when you didn’t plan on spending those $$$. So we’re going to tell you what FOMO things you should look out for. New stuff First, the word “new” can always make you feel like you need to jump on a trend, buy a piece of merchandise, or visit a certain restaurant ASAP. We will admit that this word has sucked us into its trap. It’s so easy to be hypnotized by the shiny and new, especially when it promises you something you’ve never had before (and it’s even better if you can brag about it on social media). Something new might get you every time For example, the pricey Cake Bake Shop just opened at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn. It’s new, and that might tempt you to book a reservation there and pay $23 for a slice of cake, even if you’re not interested in that slice of cake or it’s not in your budget. Or maybe you think you need to try the new expensive Lightning Lane Premier Pass just because it was recently made available. Maybe you’ve been tempted to book a pricey room at the new Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. Aptly-named Millionaire’s Cake Okay, seriously, ALL of those things sound like a great experience, but new does not mean that it’s something you and your group necessarily NEEDS. So before you book something just based on the fact that it’s new, do the research and make sure they’re worth it. ©Disney We’re here to help you make those decisions, too. You can learn more about the pros and cons of Lightning Lane Premier Pass here and read our full review of The Cake Bake Shop here. Plus we’ve been covering a LOT about Island Tower, including offering you full room tours. Island Tower Second, FOMO could mean you just don’t want to feel left out from a group, so if you see a ton of Disney adults doing something on social media, you might want to feel like you’re a part of that, too, even if you don’t personally think it’s something that’s worth your money. Or maybe the group you’re traveling with insist on doing something you just have no interest in. Just because someone in your group wants to do something doesn’t mean you have to Let’s talk about a hypothetical situation. Maybe you’re in Disney World with a group of friends who are massive Star Wars fans and they decide they want to book reservations at Savi’s Workshop to make their own lightsabers (okay, it’s actually more of an experience rather than a just make-your-own lightsaber thing). But this experience is $250. ©Disney Sure, you might like Star Wars, and that sounds like fun. But that price tag is…EEP. But if the rest of the group is on board, you might feel some peer pressure to just suck up the cost and do the experience, too, even if you know you’ll probably never use that lightsaber again and it’s going to just end up somewhere in your house collecting dust. Sure, you might feel like you’re being a bit of a downer if you say “no” to a new experience (and new experiences can be fun), don’t be afraid to speak up and explain why this experience isn’t for you. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Let’s face it — you’re going to be doing things with your group almost ALL the time, so it’s okay to split up every once in a while so that everyone can do different things. While your friends are having the lightsaber experience of their dreams at Savi’s, you can catch a showing of Beauty and the Beast Live Onstage. Not everyone is going to want to do the same things as everyone else. Beauty and the Beast Live Onstage If you are planning a trip with a group, you might want some help trying to figure out what you to need to budget ahead of your trip. Oh, hey, we might be able to help with that. Did you know we have FREE Disney World planning worksheets? We love a Disney Cruise! Disney Wish at Castaway Cay When it comes to sailing on Disney cruises, we know a thing or two! We recently explored the brand-new Disney Treasure ship and it just made us want to go sailing again but this newest update might make your Disney cruise even more expensive. We love a Disney cruise! From the delicious food to the beautiful port stops, there are so many things to see and do when you’re sailing, but we won’t pretend like this comes cheap. Just like almost anything with the Disney name attached to it, hopping on board a Disney cruise ship can cost a pretty penny. The Disney Dream Now if you’re on a Disney Cruise headed to any of the Mexico ports, you might be paying extra! According to AP News, the lower house of Mexico’s Congress has voted to charge a 42 million dollar immigrant fee for passengers coming in on any cruise ship into the country. Cozumel! If you’re going with a family of four into any of Disney’s ports there, that could add nearly $170 to the total cost of your cruise. Previously there was a long-standing policy where cruise passengers weren’t required to pay immigration fees because of the fact that they don’t stay overnight in the country. Disney’s Nassau Port in the Bahamas Not every cruise makes a stop in the Mexico ports though! Disney Cruise Line has several different ports that you can stop at. In Mexico, there are several different port options like Ensenada, Puerto Vallarta, Progreso, Cozumel, Costa Maya, Cabo San Lucas, and more. The ship and itinerary you select will determine which ports you stop in. Disney’s Private Island Castaway Cay Ships like the Disney Wonder, the Disney Magic, and the Disney Dream could all be impacted depending on your itinerary. This price increase hasn’t gone into effect yet and won’t until the Senate passes the bill as well. The Senate is expected to vote on it in December 2024. Let’s hop on board! If you aren’t thrilled about this price increase, you aren’t alone. The Mexican Association of Shipping Agents has called for the government President Claudia Sheinbaum and the Senate to stop this bill. The association released a statement saying, ““If implemented, this measure would place Mexican tourist ports among the most expensive in the world, severely affecting the country’s competitiveness against Caribbean destinations.” View of the port If this bill passes the Senate, it won’t begin impacting cruisers until 2026. When the news broke that Muppets Courtyard would be removed from Disney’s Hollywood Studios to be replaced by a new Monsters, Inc. Land, Muppets fans everywhere were saddened by the news. Muppets Courtyard in Hollywood Studios One piece of Muppets Courtyard specifically got a lot of attention — Muppet*Vision 3D. Disney shared that they “are having creative conversations and exploring ways to preserve the film and other parts of the experience for fans to enjoy in the future.” The Jim Henson Company also shared a statement about preserving the film, so many fans are hopeful they’ll be able to experience the show well into the future in some way. Jim Henson’s legacy continues to live on through the Muppets and his last piece of work, but now it seems that the company’s studio lot is being sold to a famous celebrity! According to the Los Angeles Times, the Jim Henson Company Lot has been on the market since the late creator’s family announced their intention to sell it so they could have all of the Jim Henson Company and the Jim Henson’s Creature Shop (based in Burbank) under one roof. ©Getty Images The lot sale caught the attention of singer-songwriter John Mayer, who has an office on the lot, and movie director McG (Joseph McGinty Nichol), who have now been in talks with the company to purchase the lot for $40 million. According to Mayer’s representative Larry Solters, “John Mayer and McG are under contract to purchase Henson Studios.” John Mayer ©Getty Images Solters has not elaborated on what Mayer and McG plan to use the lot for however, it has most currently been used as a music recording studio. The history of the lot is rich, beginning with comic and actor Charlie Chaplin building it as his own movie studio complex in 1917. It was then sold to Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss in 1966. The Jim Henson Company purchased the property in 1999 and erected the statue of Kermit as Charlie Chaplin as the Tramp at the entrance. According to the LA Times, “The property was declared a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument in 1969.” ©Disney It’s another point in the lot’s history as Mayer and McG set to purchase the studio. Cases of Vibrio vulnificus, a flesh-eating bacteria, have almost doubled in Florida this year. As of December 13th, 2024, there have been 83 confirmed cases of Vibrio vulnificus in Florida compared to 46 cases in 2023. Magic Kingdom entrance the day after Hurricane Milton Why did cases increase so significantly this year? Health officials are blaming hurricanes. Florida was hit by two large hurricanes this year, Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton. These hurricanes caused widespread damage, but they also resulted in increased cases of Vibrio vulnificus according to Florida health officials.Vibrio vulnificus is a bacterium that usually lives in warm, brackish seawater, and concentrations of the bacteria can rise after hurricanes. ©The News Press The Vibrio bacteria can cause illness when ingested or when open wounds are exposed to contaminated water. Concentrations of the bacteria may rise after heavy rainfall and flooding, “particularly in brackish and saltwater environments.” Both Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton brought heavy rain and flooding to Florida, which is likely why cases of Vibrio vulnificus saw an increase in 2024. In 2024, there were 83 cases and 17 deaths, and in 2023 there were 46 cases and 11 deaths. In 2022, there were 74 cases and 17 deaths, with the higher number of cases being attributed to Hurricane Ian. Overcast skies after Hurricane Milton Health officials warn residents and those traveling to Florida to “avoid swimming or wading in floodwaters, standing water, seawater, and brackish water, if possible,” and to”cover open cuts or wounds with waterproof bandages if they could come in contact with floodwaters, standing water, seawater, or brackish water.” The bacteria can also be found in raw shellfish, particularly oysters, from warm coastal waters during the summer months. Cinderella Castle during Hurricane Helene According to the Journal of American Medical Association, the mortality rate for Vibrio vulnificus infections is about 33%, and those who have more severe symptoms will want to seek medical attention immediately to begin antibiotics. It is important to be aware of activities that could lead to illness when traveling. Hurricane Helene Some good news though, is that the elevated cases of Vibrio vulnificus are found in counties outside of Disney World. In 2024, the following counties saw increased cases: Citrus, Hernando, Hillsborough, Lee, Pasco, Pinellas, and Sarasota Counties. Disney World is located in Orange and Osceola Counties. However, it is always a good idea to be alert while traveling! Stay tuned to DFB for more travel and Disney World news. Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! Disney is expensive. That’s a true statement no matter how you book your trip. Hollywood Studios There are ways to make your trip cheaper, sure, and we are sure to tell you those every time we can so you know how to ball on a budget! However, the cheapest Disney trip is to not take one, if we’re being honest, but then it’s not a trip at all, so that won’t do! Dining is an area that can easily make or break your budget fast, so if you find yourself in Disney’s Hollywood Studios and want to eat a meal that’ll be filling but also cost the fewest dollars, we’ve got you covered! While there is a McDonald’s on Disney World property, it actually may not be the cheapest place to eat, depending on what you get, and of course, it’s also not going to give you any semblance of Disney magic. Here are four places you can grab a meal in Hollywood Studios that will cost LESS than that viral $18 Big Mac Meal we’ve been hearing so much about. Ronto Roasters One of our favorite spots in this park is Ronto Roasters located in Galaxy’s Edge. The theming of this place really makes you feel like you’re in Batuu, and the food does too! You can grab their signature Ronto Wrap, made with Roasted Pork, Grilled Pork Sausage, Peppercorn Sauce, and Tangy Slaw wrapped in Pita Bread, for only $14! Ronto Wrap! However, you can also visit in the morning and grab the Ronto Morning Wrap made with Eggs, Grilled Pork Sausage, Shredded Cheddar, and Peppercorn Sauce in Pita Bread for only $13 and save a dollar! Or, if you miss breakfast but still want to save that buck, you can grab the also-delicious plant-based Zucchi Wrap for $13, which is made with Grilled Zucchini, Smoky Chickpea-Onion Slaw, Creamy Garlic-Tahini Sauce, and Fresh Cilantro wrapped in Pita Bread. Zucchi Wrap This spot is solid every time we go, but it’s not the most friendly for picky eaters, so keep that in mind! Woody’s Lunch Box In the next land over, you can stop in at Woody’s Lunch Box in Toy Story Land to grab a few different entrees that are all between $11-$14! Woody’s Lunch Box in Hollywood Studios However, it gets BETTER — at all quick service locations in Disney World, you can order off the kids menu for smaller portions and therefore lower prices. We actually often prefer the kids menu here because sometimes the adult entrees are just a little too much! Plus, we especially love ordering the $7 Grilled Cheese kids meal, then ordering a $4 side of tomato soup on the side to dunk that grilled cheese into — especially during the winter? Sign us UP. PizzeRizzo Now, is this the best place to grab pizza in Disney World? Not by a long shot, but hey, it’s quick, cheap, and it’s decent food! PizzeRizzo PizzeRizzo serves up a few more menu options than just the puffy pizza you’ll find here, but that’s what they’re most known for. Adult pizza and sub meals here range from around $11-$14, but again, you can order off the kids menu, and those entrees range from $6-$8! Again, it may not be the best meal, but if you’re on a true budget, you’re eating in a Muppets restaurant, essentially, and it doesn’t get much better than that for us. ABC Commissary We feel this restaurant is WAY underrated and we’re here to change that! The adult entrees here range between $11 and $14 as well, which is especially impressive considering how LARGE this menu is, and the kids meals are around $8 each and include options like pork taco, salad, and sandwiches. ABC Commissary We’re always keeping our eyes peeled for the latest deals around Disney World to help you save a few dollars, so stay tuned to DFB! 3 Game-Changing Updates Announced for Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2025 Planning a Trip to Disney World? Y’all…we spent a lot of time waiting in line today…not for a ride in Disney World. Instead, we headed to Orlando’s East End Market and waited in line…for a food truck. New food truck alert! But hear us out. This isn’t just any old food truck. This food truck is owned by Gideon’s Bakehouse and it was a one day deal ONLY with special citrus treats you’re not going to find ANYWHERE else. Today was a test for the food truck at Gideon’s East End Market location, and if the line for the food truck was any indication, we’d say that test was passed with flying colors. So let’s talk about some eats! So yes, today, was a test of the Stuart and Bonnie’s food truck. If you’re not familiar with Gideon’s Bakehouse, here’s a little background. The bakery has a wonderful little goth back story that includes a host of original characters, including Stuart and Bonnie. You’ll see these characters on merchandise, as well as the monthly menu cards you get when you shop at Gideon’s Bakehouse. Stuart and Bonnie Gideon’s Bakehouse has quite the following, so we spent a total of 225 minutes in line waiting to get our hands on some special treats. So many of the people we met in line are dedicated followers of everything Gideon’s does — they’re superfans in every sense of the word. The menu at Stuart and Bonnie’s is ALL about citrus. Menu We had a chance to speak with Gideon’s Bakehouse owner Steve Lewis about this new endeavor. He explained that this was a fairly new idea he’d had. “It’s a new creative challenge to us,” he said. “An answer to all the people who tell me they hate chocolate.” (That wasn’t us, by the way. We love chocolate. But we love citrus, too. And we REALLY love Gideon’s.) Let’s go! So let’s get into the treats we tried. We started with the Cuban Gelato Sandwich for $7, an item Lewis told us he expected to be the most popular. It’s Gideon’s lemon pie gelato sandwiched between two layers of citrus cake and topped with a dusting of sugar crystals. As you can see, this thing is HUGE. Cuban Gelato Sandwich This sandwich has a lovely tart lemon flavor with a nice pie crust element. The texture and flavor were just PERFECT. So you’ve got this massive solidly frozen chunk of gelato between two thin layers of citrus cake — the cake was like a sponge cake with a strong citrus flavor. Our only complaint was that it was so frozen that we couldn’t tear it in half, so we had to use a knife. In the Florida heat, though, you know that won’t last for long. That gelato, though The Icebox Citrus Tart for $6 is made with a gingerbread tart shell covered with a thin layer of orange curd, topped with a lemon filling, and finished with light orange whipped cream. Hello, orange lovers’ dream! It’s a pretty dessert and was very easy to eat with a nice texture. Icebox Citrus Tart We loved the orange flavor with this one, but you need to like gingerbread flavors because you get that with the tart shell. Again, this is a very citrus-forward dessert. So basically, our whole experience so far has been like what Florida would taste like if it were a dessert. Let’s take a bite Bonnie’s Shortbread is a lemon sugar-coated shortbread cookie filled with lemon curd for $3. It’s shaped like a lemon. Also, you can see that lemon curd peeking out through a little hole on top of the cookie. So this one didn’t knock it out of the park for us. We felt like something was off. It tasted fine, but it wasn’t as buttery as you would expect a shortbread cookie to be. Bonnie’s shortbread The cookie also wasn’t as firm as we expected — as you can see in the photo below. Was it good? Sure. But was it Gideon’s Bakehouse good? Well, we don’t think it lives up to the Gideon’s standard. It almost feels like they decided they had to offer a cookie since that’s what they’re mostly known for. However, this IS a test menu, so this could be different once the food truck opens up for good. Kinda’ soft for shortbread The Florid a la Mode is an orange cake with an orange curd center and a crumb topping, and it is finished with a scoop of lemon pie gelato for $8. First, this dessert offers good value because it’s a sizable dessert and easily sharable. Again, we have to start by saying we LOVE this gelato. It’s tangy and creamy with that pie crust texture blended in. Just YUM. Florid a la Mode The crumb topping added some nice texture, too. However, this one melted REALLY fast, but it didn’t matter because we would’ve drank that gelato up like soup. Melted Finally, we had to try Stuart’s Soda Pop for $7. It’s an all-natural house-made orange soda, which sounds like the PERFECT thing to drink on a hot Florida day, right? It’s SO good. It’s not like the orange soda you might think of. You get a REAL orange flavor, like there’s real orange juice in it. It’s also a little bubbly, almost like a mimosa, but without the alcohol. This is the perfect drink if you’re hot and thirsty. So refreshing! Stuart’s Soda Pop Overall, we were pretty pleased with almost everything we tried at the food truck. As we said, this was a one-day-only thing, but Gideon hopes to bring it back for good in summer 2025, and we’ll be ready to revisit it then, FOR SURE. Stay tuned to DFB for more.
