  1. If you’ve been following along with us at DisneyFoodBlog, you might have gotten the impression that we have a personal vendetta against Disney World buses. And I get it. Disney Bus It feels like we’re always out here waving our caution flag, warning you about all the potential pitfalls of relying on those iconic (and free!) Disney buses for your transportation needs. But here’s the kicker: We actually like the Disney World buses! Yup, you heard that right. We like them. Let’s clear up the confusion, shall we? The Truth About Disney Buses Let me be straight with you. Disney buses aren’t always the fastest or most glamorous way to get from Point A to Point B in Disney World. Sometimes, they’re downright frustrating. That’s why we’re always quick to warn you about the realities of bus travel: long waits, crowded rides, and the sheer unpredictability of arrival times. But despite all that, there’s something about them that just works for us. Disney Bus Disney’s complimentary transportation system (buses included) offers a level of convenience that’s hard to beat. You don’t have to worry about navigating traffic, finding parking, or paying for a rideshare. All you need to do is just show up at your resort’s bus stop, hop on, and let Disney do the driving. Easy peasy lemon squeezy. The Downsides Are Real, But Manageable Now, let’s get the negatives out of the way first. I’m not going to sugarcoat it: buses can be a pain, especially during peak times. If you’ve ever tried to get a bus right after the fireworks, you know what I mean. Everyone and their Mickey ears are crammed into those shuttles, and when you’re squished up against strangers, it feels like you’re starring in a live-action version of “it’s a Small World” just minus the catchy song. Crowds boarding the bus at the TTC Or how about when you just miss a bus and get to spend the next 20 minutes contemplating life (and your Lightning Lane decisions) at the bus stop? Unfortunately, it just happens. Also, if you’re staying at a resort with an internal bus loop, like Caribbean Beach or Port Orleans, you might have to make multiple stops before even leaving your hotel property. Caribbean Beach bus stop But here’s the thing: you can work around these hiccups if you plan ahead. Give yourself extra time in the morning for rope drop. Use the My Disney Experience app to check real-time bus arrival estimates. And if the post-park crowds are too much, hang back for about 30 minutes to shop, grab a snack, or soak up those final magical moments before heading out. Why We Actually Like the Buses Now that we’ve addressed the (obvious) downsides, let me tell you why we’re still fans of Disney World buses. They’re Free: Let’s start with the big one – the price tag. Or rather, the lack of one. Disney’s buses are part of your overall vacation package. Considering how much you’re already spending on park tickets, hotels, and churros, getting a free ride feels like a win. They’re (Mostly) Reliable: Okay, so they’re not always punctual, but Disney has made significant improvements in recent years. The My Disney Experience app gives you estimated arrival times, which takes a lot of the guesswork out of bus travel. Plus, buses generally run every 20 minutes or so, which isn’t bad when you think about the scale of Disney World. They’re Part of the Experience: For us, there’s something nostalgic about stepping onto a Disney bus. It’s part of the Disney World rhythm. It’s the same way how hearing the monorail spiel or spotting the Skyliner gondolas makes you feel like you’ve truly arrived. The buses might not have the wow factor of those other transportation options, but they’re an essential piece of the Disney bubble. All aboard! When To Skip the Bus All of that being said, there are times when it’s worth spending a little extra for a rideshare. If you’ve got a dining reservation and you’re cutting it close? Grab an Uber or Lyft. Trying to make it to rope drop with zero stress? A rideshare might save you precious minutes (and peace of mind). But for the majority of your Disney World trip, the buses are going to be perfectly fine. Rideshare sign in Disney World Tips for Making the Most of Disney Buses Want to avoid the common pitfalls of Disney bus travel? Here are a few pro tips: Plan Ahead: For those early morning rides, aim to be at your bus stop at least 30–45 minutes before you need to be somewhere. This gives you a buffer just in case the first bus is full or running late. Avoid Peak Times: If possible, steer clear of buses immediately after park closing. The lines are longest then, and the buses are the most crowded. Instead, hang back and enjoy the quieter park atmosphere for a bit before heading out. Use the App: The My Disney Experience app is going to be your best friend for checking bus schedules and reducing wait times. Be Patient: As we said, the buses aren’t perfect, but they’re a solid option if you go in with realistic expectations. So, I hope it’s been clear that we don’t hate Disney World buses. We just want you to be prepared for what to expect so you can make the most of your vacation. And, when you take a step back and appreciate them for what they are, you’ll find that they’re actually pretty great. 2. Santa is almost here! Christmas in Magic Kingdom We have celebrated the holidays for over a month now, thanks to Disney World’s festivities like Jollywood Nights and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas party. It’s our favorite time of the year and now even more spots in Disney World are getting in on the fun. They put presents out for all of the good horses and ponies and added jingle bells to their harnesses! Presents sparkled as holiday lights lit up the barn. Bows that reminded us of candy canes were added onto cheerful wreaths and poinsettias lined the halls. Disney horse We love seeing everyone, even the Disney animals, get in on the cheer just in time for Santa to make his annual trip across the globe. If you’re looking to meet Santa Claus in Disney World before he takes flight tomorrow night, you can find him in all four theme parks and Disney Springs! Santa in Animal Kingdom We can’t wait to see what all of the horses get for Christmas this year! I know a few of them have been asking for hay and a new bridle. 3. A major piece of Florida’s theme park history is closing after over 80 years. ©Visit Central Florida More than 30 years before Disney World changed the landscape of Florida tourism forever, Cypress Gardens was the most famous attraction in the Sunshine State. Originally opened in 1936 by the legendary Pope Sr., the botanical garden and theme park was headlined by a water-skiing show that drew in millions of guests – – including some huge celebrities – – to see daredevil performers including Pope’s son Pope Jr. The show’s success popularized the sport, made the park’s home of Winter Haven the “water skiing capital of the world”, and put Florida on the metaphorical map for millions. The original iteration of Cypress Gardens closed in 2009, but the park and land was purchased by Merlin Entertainment, who refurbished the area into LEGOLAND Florida, which opened in 2011. A LEGO-themed version of the water-skiing show has been one of the park’s entertainment offerings…until now. In mid-December 2024, LEGOLAND confirmed that Brickbeard’s Watersport Stunt Show — the show’s current iteration — will be closing after a final performance on December 30th. ©Visit Central Florida In a statement, the park said that the show, “has been a beloved part of our history, creating lasting memories for families over the years. While we cherish this legacy, we are listening to our guests and our focus is on introducing new and dynamic experiences to continue creating family memories.” ©LEGOLAND At the time of the announcement, longtime Cypress Gardens and former water ski show director Mark Voisard told television station WFLA that he believed the closure was a cost-cutting measure, saying, “It wasn’t one of the top attractions at Legoland, so they ultimately had to make a business decision. It’s pretty sad for the area because people would go there and go, ‘I remember coming here as a kid.’” ©Visit Central Florida If you want to catch the final incarnation of this legendary water skiing show, you have ONE WEEK left to get to LEGOLAND Florida before the 80-year-old show disappears forever. 4. Visiting Disney World can be overwhelming, no matter if you’ve never been there or you’ve been there multiple times. Joy at Pixar Plaza in Hollywood Studios! You see, there’s just so much to see and do, and there’s no way you can do it all in one trip unless you literally move to Disney World. But, hey, we go to Disney World almost every day, and we are STILL discovering new things to occupy our time in the parks and at the resorts. However, here’s the thing, FOMO can be a real thing when you’re there, and we’re going to warn you about it so you don’t fall into its trap. So what is FOMO, you may ask? Well, FOMO stands for “fear of missing out.” And Disney knows how to play on that feeling to get you to cough up even MORE money even when you didn’t plan on spending those $$$. So we’re going to tell you what FOMO things you should look out for. New stuff First, the word “new” can always make you feel like you need to jump on a trend, buy a piece of merchandise, or visit a certain restaurant ASAP. We will admit that this word has sucked us into its trap. It’s so easy to be hypnotized by the shiny and new, especially when it promises you something you’ve never had before (and it’s even better if you can brag about it on social media). Something new might get you every time For example, the pricey Cake Bake Shop just opened at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn. It’s new, and that might tempt you to book a reservation there and pay $23 for a slice of cake, even if you’re not interested in that slice of cake or it’s not in your budget. Or maybe you think you need to try the new expensive Lightning Lane Premier Pass just because it was recently made available. Maybe you’ve been tempted to book a pricey room at the new Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. Aptly-named Millionaire’s Cake Okay, seriously, ALL of those things sound like a great experience, but new does not mean that it’s something you and your group necessarily NEEDS. So before you book something just based on the fact that it’s new, do the research and make sure they’re worth it. ©Disney We’re here to help you make those decisions, too. You can learn more about the pros and cons of Lightning Lane Premier Pass here and read our full review of The Cake Bake Shop here. Plus we’ve been covering a LOT about Island Tower, including offering you full room tours. Island Tower Second, FOMO could mean you just don’t want to feel left out from a group, so if you see a ton of Disney adults doing something on social media, you might want to feel like you’re a part of that, too, even if you don’t personally think it’s something that’s worth your money. Or maybe the group you’re traveling with insist on doing something you just have no interest in. Just because someone in your group wants to do something doesn’t mean you have to Let’s talk about a hypothetical situation. Maybe you’re in Disney World with a group of friends who are massive Star Wars fans and they decide they want to book reservations at Savi’s Workshop to make their own lightsabers (okay, it’s actually more of an experience rather than a just make-your-own lightsaber thing). But this experience is $250. ©Disney Sure, you might like Star Wars, and that sounds like fun. But that price tag is…EEP. But if the rest of the group is on board, you might feel some peer pressure to just suck up the cost and do the experience, too, even if you know you’ll probably never use that lightsaber again and it’s going to just end up somewhere in your house collecting dust. Sure, you might feel like you’re being a bit of a downer if you say “no” to a new experience (and new experiences can be fun), don’t be afraid to speak up and explain why this experience isn’t for you. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Let’s face it — you’re going to be doing things with your group almost ALL the time, so it’s okay to split up every once in a while so that everyone can do different things. While your friends are having the lightsaber experience of their dreams at Savi’s, you can catch a showing of Beauty and the Beast Live Onstage. Not everyone is going to want to do the same things as everyone else. Beauty and the Beast Live Onstage If you are planning a trip with a group, you might want some help trying to figure out what you to need to budget ahead of your trip. 7. We love a Disney Cruise! Disney Wish at Castaway Cay When it comes to sailing on Disney cruises, we know a thing or two! We recently explored the brand-new Disney Treasure ship and it just made us want to go sailing again but this newest update might make your Disney cruise even more expensive. We love a Disney cruise! From the delicious food to the beautiful port stops, there are so many things to see and do when you’re sailing, but we won’t pretend like this comes cheap. Just like almost anything with the Disney name attached to it, hopping on board a Disney cruise ship can cost a pretty penny. The Disney Dream Now if you’re on a Disney Cruise headed to any of the Mexico ports, you might be paying extra! According to AP News, the lower house of Mexico’s Congress has voted to charge a 42 million dollar immigrant fee for passengers coming in on any cruise ship into the country. Cozumel! If you’re going with a family of four into any of Disney’s ports there, that could add nearly $170 to the total cost of your cruise. Previously there was a long-standing policy where cruise passengers weren’t required to pay immigration fees because of the fact that they don’t stay overnight in the country. Disney’s Nassau Port in the Bahamas Not every cruise makes a stop in the Mexico ports though! Disney Cruise Line has several different ports that you can stop at. In Mexico, there are several different port options like Ensenada, Puerto Vallarta, Progreso, Cozumel, Costa Maya, Cabo San Lucas, and more. The ship and itinerary you select will determine which ports you stop in. Disney’s Private Island Castaway Cay Ships like the Disney Wonder, the Disney Magic, and the Disney Dream could all be impacted depending on your itinerary. This price increase hasn’t gone into effect yet and won’t until the Senate passes the bill as well. The Senate is expected to vote on it in December 2024. Let’s hop on board! If you aren’t thrilled about this price increase, you aren’t alone. The Mexican Association of Shipping Agents has called for the government President Claudia Sheinbaum and the Senate to stop this bill. The association released a statement saying, ““If implemented, this measure would place Mexican tourist ports among the most expensive in the world, severely affecting the country’s competitiveness against Caribbean destinations.” View of the port If this bill passes the Senate, it won’t begin impacting cruisers until 2026. 8. When the news broke that Muppets Courtyard would be removed from Disney’s Hollywood Studios to be replaced by a new Monsters, Inc. Land, Muppets fans everywhere were saddened by the news. Muppets Courtyard in Hollywood Studios One piece of Muppets Courtyard specifically got a lot of attention — Muppet*Vision 3D. Disney shared that they “are having creative conversations and exploring ways to preserve the film and other parts of the experience for fans to enjoy in the future.” The Jim Henson Company also shared a statement about preserving the film, so many fans are hopeful they’ll be able to experience the show well into the future in some way. Jim Henson’s legacy continues to live on through the Muppets and his last piece of work, but now it seems that the company’s studio lot is being sold to a famous celebrity! According to the Los Angeles Times, the Jim Henson Company Lot has been on the market since the late creator’s family announced their intention to sell it so they could have all of the Jim Henson Company and the Jim Henson’s Creature Shop (based in Burbank) under one roof. ©Getty Images The lot sale caught the attention of singer-songwriter John Mayer, who has an office on the lot, and movie director McG (Joseph McGinty Nichol), who have now been in talks with the company to purchase the lot for $40 million. According to Mayer’s representative Larry Solters, “John Mayer and McG are under contract to purchase Henson Studios.” John Mayer ©Getty Images Solters has not elaborated on what Mayer and McG plan to use the lot for however, it has most currently been used as a music recording studio. The history of the lot is rich, beginning with comic and actor Charlie Chaplin building it as his own movie studio complex in 1917. It was then sold to Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss in 1966. The Jim Henson Company purchased the property in 1999 and erected the statue of Kermit as Charlie Chaplin as the Tramp at the entrance. According to the LA Times, “The property was declared a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument in 1969.” ©Disney It’s another point in the lot’s history as Mayer and McG set to purchase the studio. 9. Cases of Vibrio vulnificus, a flesh-eating bacteria, have almost doubled in Florida this year. As of December 13th, 2024, there have been 83 confirmed cases of Vibrio vulnificus in Florida compared to 46 cases in 2023. Magic Kingdom entrance the day after Hurricane Milton Why did cases increase so significantly this year? Health officials are blaming hurricanes. Florida was hit by two large hurricanes this year, Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton. These hurricanes caused widespread damage, but they also resulted in increased cases of Vibrio vulnificus according to Florida health officials.Vibrio vulnificus is a bacterium that usually lives in warm, brackish seawater, and concentrations of the bacteria can rise after hurricanes. ©The News Press The Vibrio bacteria can cause illness when ingested or when open wounds are exposed to contaminated water. Concentrations of the bacteria may rise after heavy rainfall and flooding, “particularly in brackish and saltwater environments.” Both Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton brought heavy rain and flooding to Florida, which is likely why cases of Vibrio vulnificus saw an increase in 2024. In 2024, there were 83 cases and 17 deaths, and in 2023 there were 46 cases and 11 deaths. In 2022, there were 74 cases and 17 deaths, with the higher number of cases being attributed to Hurricane Ian. Overcast skies after Hurricane Milton Health officials warn residents and those traveling to Florida to “avoid swimming or wading in floodwaters, standing water, seawater, and brackish water, if possible,” and to”cover open cuts or wounds with waterproof bandages if they could come in contact with floodwaters, standing water, seawater, or brackish water.” The bacteria can also be found in raw shellfish, particularly oysters, from warm coastal waters during the summer months. Cinderella Castle during Hurricane Helene According to the Journal of American Medical Association, the mortality rate for Vibrio vulnificus infections is about 33%, and those who have more severe symptoms will want to seek medical attention immediately to begin antibiotics. It is important to be aware of activities that could lead to illness when traveling. Hurricane Helene Some good news though, is that the elevated cases of Vibrio vulnificus are found in counties outside of Disney World. In 2024, the following counties saw increased cases: Citrus, Hernando, Hillsborough, Lee, Pasco, Pinellas, and Sarasota Counties. Disney World is located in Orange and Osceola Counties. 10. Disney is expensive. That’s a true statement no matter how you book your trip. Hollywood Studios There are ways to make your trip cheaper, sure, and we are sure to tell you those every time we can so you know how to ball on a budget! However, the cheapest Disney trip is to not take one, if we’re being honest, but then it’s not a trip at all, so that won’t do! Dining is an area that can easily make or break your budget fast, so if you find yourself in Disney’s Hollywood Studios and want to eat a meal that’ll be filling but also cost the fewest dollars, we’ve got you covered! While there is a McDonald’s on Disney World property, it actually may not be the cheapest place to eat, depending on what you get, and of course, it’s also not going to give you any semblance of Disney magic. Here are four places you can grab a meal in Hollywood Studios that will cost LESS than that viral $18 Big Mac Meal we’ve been hearing so much about. Ronto Roasters One of our favorite spots in this park is Ronto Roasters located in Galaxy’s Edge. The theming of this place really makes you feel like you’re in Batuu, and the food does too! You can grab their signature Ronto Wrap, made with Roasted Pork, Grilled Pork Sausage, Peppercorn Sauce, and Tangy Slaw wrapped in Pita Bread, for only $14! Ronto Wrap! However, you can also visit in the morning and grab the Ronto Morning Wrap made with Eggs, Grilled Pork Sausage, Shredded Cheddar, and Peppercorn Sauce in Pita Bread for only $13 and save a dollar! Or, if you miss breakfast but still want to save that buck, you can grab the also-delicious plant-based Zucchi Wrap for $13, which is made with Grilled Zucchini, Smoky Chickpea-Onion Slaw, Creamy Garlic-Tahini Sauce, and Fresh Cilantro wrapped in Pita Bread. Zucchi Wrap This spot is solid every time we go, but it’s not the most friendly for picky eaters, so keep that in mind! Woody’s Lunch Box In the next land over, you can stop in at Woody’s Lunch Box in Toy Story Land to grab a few different entrees that are all between $11-$14! Woody’s Lunch Box in Hollywood Studios However, it gets BETTER — at all quick service locations in Disney World, you can order off the kids menu for smaller portions and therefore lower prices. We actually often prefer the kids menu here because sometimes the adult entrees are just a little too much! Plus, we especially love ordering the $7 Grilled Cheese kids meal, then ordering a $4 side of tomato soup on the side to dunk that grilled cheese into — especially during the winter? Sign us UP. PizzeRizzo Now, is this the best place to grab pizza in Disney World? Not by a long shot, but hey, it’s quick, cheap, and it’s decent food! PizzeRizzo PizzeRizzo serves up a few more menu options than just the puffy pizza you’ll find here, but that’s what they’re most known for. Adult pizza and sub meals here range from around $11-$14, but again, you can order off the kids menu, and those entrees range from $6-$8! Again, it may not be the best meal, but if you’re on a true budget, you’re eating in a Muppets restaurant, essentially, and it doesn’t get much better than that for us. ABC Commissary We feel this restaurant is WAY underrated and we’re here to change that! The adult entrees here range between $11 and $14 as well, which is especially impressive considering how LARGE this menu is, and the kids meals are around $8 each and include options like pork taco, salad, and sandwiches. ABC Commissary We’re always keeping our eyes peeled for the latest deals around Disney World to help you save a few dollars, so stay tuned to DFB! 3 Game-Changing Updates Announced for Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2025 Planning a Trip to Disney World? 11. So it’s been a bit of a quiet week — at least when it comes to food — in Disney World. Ice cream in EPCOT But that’s okay because we’ve been busy exploring Disney’s newest hotel expansion, Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. One of the BEST parts of exploring this new property, though, was getting a chance to eat at Wailulu Bar & Grill, the tower’s quick-service restaurant — let’s just say we were impressed (you can read the full review here). However, other Disney World restaurants had some changes this week, so let’s see what’s been updated. 12. Y’all…we spent a lot of time waiting in line today…not for a ride in Disney World. Instead, we headed to Orlando’s East End Market and waited in line…for a food truck. New food truck alert! But hear us out. This isn’t just any old food truck. This food truck is owned by Gideon’s Bakehouse and it was a one day deal ONLY with special citrus treats you’re not going to find ANYWHERE else. Today was a test for the food truck at Gideon’s East End Market location, and if the line for the food truck was any indication, we’d say that test was passed with flying colors. So let’s talk about some eats! So yes, today, was a test of the Stuart and Bonnie’s food truck. If you’re not familiar with Gideon’s Bakehouse, here’s a little background. The bakery has a wonderful little goth back story that includes a host of original characters, including Stuart and Bonnie. You’ll see these characters on merchandise, as well as the monthly menu cards you get when you shop at Gideon’s Bakehouse. Stuart and Bonnie Gideon’s Bakehouse has quite the following, so we spent a total of 225 minutes in line waiting to get our hands on some special treats. So many of the people we met in line are dedicated followers of everything Gideon’s does — they’re superfans in every sense of the word. The menu at Stuart and Bonnie’s is ALL about citrus. Menu We had a chance to speak with Gideon’s Bakehouse owner Steve Lewis about this new endeavor. He explained that this was a fairly new idea he’d had. “It’s a new creative challenge to us,” he said. “An answer to all the people who tell me they hate chocolate.” (That wasn’t us, by the way. We love chocolate. But we love citrus, too. And we REALLY love Gideon’s.) Let’s go! So let’s get into the treats we tried. We started with the Cuban Gelato Sandwich for $7, an item Lewis told us he expected to be the most popular. It’s Gideon’s lemon pie gelato sandwiched between two layers of citrus cake and topped with a dusting of sugar crystals. As you can see, this thing is HUGE. Cuban Gelato Sandwich This sandwich has a lovely tart lemon flavor with a nice pie crust element. The texture and flavor were just PERFECT. So you’ve got this massive solidly frozen chunk of gelato between two thin layers of citrus cake — the cake was like a sponge cake with a strong citrus flavor. Our only complaint was that it was so frozen that we couldn’t tear it in half, so we had to use a knife. In the Florida heat, though, you know that won’t last for long. That gelato, though The Icebox Citrus Tart for $6 is made with a gingerbread tart shell covered with a thin layer of orange curd, topped with a lemon filling, and finished with light orange whipped cream. Hello, orange lovers’ dream! It’s a pretty dessert and was very easy to eat with a nice texture. Icebox Citrus Tart We loved the orange flavor with this one, but you need to like gingerbread flavors because you get that with the tart shell. Again, this is a very citrus-forward dessert. So basically, our whole experience so far has been like what Florida would taste like if it were a dessert. Let’s take a bite Bonnie’s Shortbread is a lemon sugar-coated shortbread cookie filled with lemon curd for $3. It’s shaped like a lemon. Also, you can see that lemon curd peeking out through a little hole on top of the cookie. So this one didn’t knock it out of the park for us. We felt like something was off. It tasted fine, but it wasn’t as buttery as you would expect a shortbread cookie to be. Bonnie’s shortbread The cookie also wasn’t as firm as we expected — as you can see in the photo below. Was it good? Sure. But was it Gideon’s Bakehouse good? Well, we don’t think it lives up to the Gideon’s standard. It almost feels like they decided they had to offer a cookie since that’s what they’re mostly known for. However, this IS a test menu, so this could be different once the food truck opens up for good. Kinda’ soft for shortbread The Florid a la Mode is an orange cake with an orange curd center and a crumb topping, and it is finished with a scoop of lemon pie gelato for $8. First, this dessert offers good value because it’s a sizable dessert and easily sharable. Again, we have to start by saying we LOVE this gelato. It’s tangy and creamy with that pie crust texture blended in. Just YUM. Florid a la Mode The crumb topping added some nice texture, too. However, this one melted REALLY fast, but it didn’t matter because we would’ve drank that gelato up like soup. Melted Finally, we had to try Stuart’s Soda Pop for $7. It’s an all-natural house-made orange soda, which sounds like the PERFECT thing to drink on a hot Florida day, right? It’s SO good. It’s not like the orange soda you might think of. You get a REAL orange flavor, like there’s real orange juice in it. It’s also a little bubbly, almost like a mimosa, but without the alcohol. This is the perfect drink if you’re hot and thirsty. So refreshing! Stuart’s Soda Pop Overall, we were pretty pleased with almost everything we tried at the food truck. As we said, this was a one-day-only thing, but Gideon hopes to bring it back for good in summer 2025, and we’ll be ready to revisit it then, FOR SURE. Stay tuned to DFB for more. 13. We are back with a NEW treat in Disney World! To celebrate Mufasa: The Lion King debuting in theaters on December 20th, Disney World released FIVE exclusive treats. Amorette’s Patisserie Of course, you know we have to give them a try, so we are heading over to Amorette’s Patisserie to try one of the new desserts. Amorette’s Patisserie is located in the Town Center area of Disney Springs. It is a French-style bakery that serves up a variety of pastries, cakes, and other treats. We are here to grab the Mufasa Cake Bar! This bar contains a cinnamon-vanilla mouse and vanilla chiffon with caramel chocolate-coated feuilletine crunch dipped in dark chocolate. You can get it for $8.25. Mufasa Cake Bar Upon first impression, we were taken aback by the Mufasa cut-out on the front. For some reason, it seems a bit out of place against the decorations behind it. We felt like we were being stared down by a cake bar, and it was just a bit weird. He looks just as confused as we are! Did we just have a moment with a fake lion? Don’t judge… Mufasa Cake Bar Once we made it past the lion’s face staring into our soul, it was time to see how this treat tasted. This bar is PACKED with cinnamon flavor. You will have to really enjoy cinnamon to enjoy this cake bar. It isn’t a hint of cinnamon, but rather, it is a gingerbread-esque amount of cinnamon. Is he staring at you or me? Beyond the cinnamon flavor, you will also taste a lot of chocolate. The cake bar has a very doughy consistency. The cake bar doesn’t have layers; the ingredients are combined together in one cake bar center. Inisde the Mufasa Cake Bar Overall, we really enjoyed the cake bar and it was one of the better cake bars we have tried. BUT, you will need to like cinnamon if you are going to grab this cake bar; you have been warned! We tasted cinnamon in our mouths for quite a while afterward. We will also be heading to Animal Kingdom to try some of the other new Mufasa treats, so check back for those reviews! Mufasa Cake Bars We have a passion for Disney food, and we have eaten EVERYWHERE in Disney World. However, we aren’t stopping there. 14. He’s mischievous. He’s sassy. He’s also the sweetest and most lovable alien in Disney World. Stitch is a Disney icon! Stitch! Over the past few years, it seems like Disney REALLY leaned into the Stitch craze. It felt like everywhere you turned, Stitch was there. He was taking over Cinderella Castle (yes, he really did cover it with toilet paper), attacking snacks, and crashing other Disney stories. But could 2025 mark a new era? We found an interesting sign that could indicate Disney is FINALLY ditching Stitch. For a little background, Disney likes to create 12-part merchandise collections that release one month at a time. There was the Stitch Attacks Snacks collection… Stitch Attacks Snacks Stitch and Angel Snow Cone Plushes …and even a Stitch Crashes Disney collection. This was a weird one. Pocahontas and Peter Pan Stitch Crashes Disney Plushes! But this year, Disney is FINALLY moving away from the Stitch collections. In fact, in a new 2025 merchandise preview, we learned that a Winnie the Pooh Pin of the Month Series will debut in January! Each month throughout 2025, Disney will release another pin to add to the collection. You can see a sneak peek at a few of the designs below! ©Disney Looking more closely, it looks like Pooh will join his Hundred Acre Wood friends on all sorts of adventures. We can’t wait to see the full collection! ©Disney The map also has some yet-to-be-revealed designs, and if you look closely, it looks like there could be a Tigger pin in the collection! ©Disney We love ya, Stitch, but it feels SO GOOD to see a different character take the lead for 2025. Does this mean more Winnie the Pooh merchandise is on the way? We’ll have to wait and see. Considering Disney just released these…unique hats (and they SOLD OUT online), it seems like people are really into Winnie the Pooh right now. ©Disney In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more. 15. Okay, so we’ll admit that we’re a sucker for a good food truck. Gideon’s Okay, well, we’re a sucker for anything related to food, but there’s something fun about food trucks. Now, you may not know, but Disney Springs has several food trucks that pretty much stay parked in the area year-round. But a special NEW food truck has arrived in Orlando, and we’re excited because it’s affiliated with one of our favorite cookie spots, Gideon’s Bakehouse. Lewis did, however, hint at other fixed locations coming to the area. As we mentioned, this is an early preview of the food truck, but Gideon’s is hoping to have the food truck officially ready by summer 2025. If you’re interested, you can also purchase a cute Stuart & Bonnie’s tote bag while supplies last. For the record, we waited 225 minutes in line, with 141 of those minutes after the truck opened. There were still about 100 people in line when we left. Whew! But for good food? WORTH IT. Let’s go! Of course, you KNOW us, so we picked up some goodies. 17. Last year was wild: the Steamboat Willie version of Mickey Mouse entered the public domain and folks wasted NO time taking advantage of it. Weighted Steamboat Willie Plush We saw a Steamboat Willie horror movie that had been in the works for a while just waiting for this version of Mickey to enter the public domain. Following that, a video game development company announced a new horror title, called Infestation: Origin, a co-op survival game. Adult Swim also posted a video making fun of the fact that Mickey was now up for grabs. Well, now, another version of Mickey Mouse will soon have its copyright expire, sending it to the public domain. The Karnival Kid, which featured Mickey Mouse speaking for the very first time, will enter the public domain in 2025. Several other Mickey shorts also become public domain, meaning that the copyright has expired and those versions of the character can be used by the general public without permission or payment to Disney. ©Disney Some high profile comics character will also be entering public domain in 1925, including Popeye, who first appeared in a newspaper strip in 1929. However, only this version of Popeye is available to the public for free use — this wasn’t the version of the character with the grumbly voice or that ate spinach. This doesn’t apply to Robin Williams’ turn as the character in the 1980 Popeye movie either. ©Paramount Another famous comic character entering public domain in 2025 is Tintin, which first appeared in the U.S. in 1929. However, the version of the character with the bright red hair didn’t appear until later, so that version is still protected by copyright law. That includes the version seen in Stephen Spielberg’s 2011 movie, The Adventures of Tintin. ©Paramount Other notable works entering public domain in 2025 include William Faulkner’s The Sound and the Fury, John Steinbeck’s A Cup of Gold, Virginia Woolf’s essay “A Room of One’s Own,” Alfred Hitchcock’s Blackmail, John Ford’s The Black Watch, Cecil B. DeMille’s Dynamite, and more. Stay tuned to DFB for more. 3 Ways Mickey Mouse Has Been Defiled Since Becoming Public Domain Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! 18. It is hard to believe that it is almost 2025! We have already started our New Year’s resolutions, and of course, we are including lots of Disney World trips as one of our goals. Animal Kingdom A new year brings lots of new changes, and we are rounding up some of the biggest changes coming to Florida and Disney World travel in 2025. Be REAL ID Ready! One of the biggest changes coming in 2025 that will impact your travel is regarding your ID. Beginning May 7th, 2025, U.S. travelers must be REAL ID compliant to board domestic flights. To find out if you are REAL ID compliant, check if your ID has a gold or black star in the upper portion of the card. If you don’t have that star on your ID, you must visit your state’s driver’s licensing agency to get a REAL ID before using it for travel. ©Department of Homeland Security Car Rentals Are Getting More Expensive If you are renting a car from the Orlando International Airport, be prepared that the rental will be a bit more expensive in 2025. The Customer Facility Charge (CFC) increase was implemented in November 2024, and will be sticking around into 2025. The daily rate went from $6 to $9. Even though it is not a huge increase, it is something to be aware of. This is not the only fee you will pay when renting a car either. Disney World! “An airport car rental includes additional fees like a Concession Recovery Fee, Energy Recovery Fee, Florida Surcharge, Vehicle License Fee, and Waste Tire & Battery Fee. Fees alone for a weeklong rental of an SUV from MCO can total more than $150.” Potentially Higher Travel Volume You might also notice an increase in travel volume to Orlando next year as Universal’s Epic Universe is officially opening. This brand-new theme park will be opening on May 22nd, 2025. It will be drawing in some large crowds and you might feel an increase in volume if you are traveling to Orlando after it has opened. Epic Universe Model This higher volume may also affect the roadways in Orlando. If you are driving around the Universal and Disney areas, you may want to add some extra time in case there is more traffic than normal. 19. It’s the holiday season, and one of our favorite traditions here at DFB is enjoying all the traditional baked goods! Merry Christmas! This year, the TSA has shared a reminder for the holidays that you are welcome to bring solid foods such as cookies, cakes, pies, and brownies through security checkpoints at airports. However, if a food item you plan to take with you on a flight spills, spreads, sprays, pumps, or pours, you’ll need to pack it in your checked bag! They also suggest packing a bit of extra tissue paper in with your baked goods as extra padding as they are going through security. The TSA also shared that its officers love cookies and baked goods as much as anyone and five officers shared their personal cookie recipes! White Chocolate Chip Ube Cookies Recipe shared by TSA Officer Ciaran Persch from Pennsylvania’s Harrisburg International Airport (MDT). Ingredients 3 cups all-purpose flour 1 tbsp cornstarch 3 tsp baking powder 1 tsp salt 1 cup unsalted butter at room temperature 1/2 cup granulated sugar 1 1/4 cup brown sugar 15 oz ube jam (Also called ube halaya, which you can find at most Asian grocery stores) 1 large egg at room temperature 1 large egg yolk at room temperature 2 tbsp ube extract 1 cup white chocolate chips Recipe In a medium-sized bowl, whisk all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, and salt. Set aside. Beat unsalted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar on medium-high speed until well-blended. Add ube jam, extract to the mixture, and continue beating until incorporated. Add eggs and beat until combined. Add flour mixture to ube mixture in thirds and beat until no more streaks of flour remain. Scrape the bottom of the bowl as you go. Stir in the white chocolate chips. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and chill the batter for at least three hours. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Scoop roughly two tablespoons of the dough and roll into balls. Place the balls onto the cookie sheet with about two inches of space around each ball. Bake for 10 to 11 minutes or until the cookies are set. Allow to cool completely. Orange Creamsicle Cookies Recipe shared by TSA Officer Susan Smoot from West Virginia’s Raleigh County Memorial Airport (BKW). Ingredients 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened 8 ounces cream cheese softened 1 egg 1/2 teaspoon orange extract 1 box orange cake mix 1 cup powdered sugar 1 cup white chocolate chips orange food coloring (optional) Recipe Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line cookie sheets with parchment paper. In a large mixing bowl, beat together the butter, orange extract, cream cheese, and egg with a mixer until smooth. Add the cake mix and mix well. (Add orange food coloring if desired until the cookie dough reaches your desired orange color.) Stir the white chocolate chips into the cookie dough. Refrigerate the dough for 30 minutes. (Do not skip this step.) Form the dough into 24 balls. Roll each in powdered sugar and place on the lined cookie sheets. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes. Pete’s Mom’s Chocolate Chip Cookies Recipe shared by TSA Officer Kelli Herreid from West Virginia’s Greenbrier Valley Airport (LWB). Ingredients 2 1/4 cups flour 1/2 cup brown sugar 1/2 cup white sugar 2 tsp cream of tartar 1 tsp baking soda 1 tsp salt 1 egg 1/2 cup butter 1/2 cup shortening 1 tsp vanilla 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips Recipe Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine all dry ingredients except chocolate chips; set aside. Combine butter, shortening, sugars, and vanilla. Beat until creamy. Add egg and mix until well incorporated. Add dry ingredients and mix. Stir in chocolate chips. Bake the dough in rounded tablespoons on an ungreased baking sheet for 9 to 11 minutes or until the edges are brown. Banana Spice Cookies Recipe shared by TSA Officer Roslyn Sears from Baltimore Washington International/Thurgood Marshall Airport. Ingredients 1/4 cup shortening 1/4 cup butter 1 cup brown sugar 2 eggs 2 mashed bananas 2 cups all-purpose flour 2 tsp baking powder 1/4 tsp baking soda 1/4 tsp salt 1/2 tsp cinnamon ¼ tsp cloves 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional) Recipe Mix shortening, butter, eggs, sugar, and bananas. Stir in the remaining ingredients. Cover and chill for one hour. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Grease a cookie sheet. Place hand-rolled balls of dough, about one rounded teaspoon each, onto a cookie sheet at a distance of two inches apart. Bake for eight to 10 minutes. Makes three to four dozen depending on the size of the hand-rolled balls of dough. Small Batch Chocolate Chip Cookies (makes one dozen large cookies) Recipe shared by TSA Officer Tanya Smeltz from Virginia’s Lynchburg Regional Airport. Ingredients 1 cup butter, room temperature 1 1/4 cups light brown sugar 1/2 cup granulated sugar 2 large eggs at room temperature 2 tsp vanilla extract 1 tsp baking soda 1 tsp k\Kosher salt 1tbsp cornstarch 3 cups all-purpose flour 2 1/4 cups milk chocolate chips, plus more to press into the top of the dough after baking Recipe Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Using a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, mix the butter, light brown sugar, and granulated sugar on medium speed for 3 minutes. Add the eggs, vanilla, baking soda, salt, and cornstarch and mix for 1 minute. Turn the mixer to low and mix in the flour until just combined. Stir in the chocolate chips. Portion out a rounded 1/3 cup of cookie dough and roll it into a ball. Break the cookie dough ball in half, turn the dough so the jagged broken edge is facing up, and then press back together to create a craggy top. Place dough onto the prepared baking sheet 3 inches apart. Officer Smeltz recommends baking just five cookies at a time since they are large. Bake for 10 to 11 minutes until the edges and tops are slightly golden. Press additional chocolate chips on top of the baked cookies. Allow to cool on the cookie sheet for five minutes, and then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. We seriously love cookies! These cookies sound AMAZING! 20. 2025 is on the way, and there are a lot of changes coming to Disney World. EPCOT Tons of construction will be beginning in Disney World this upcoming year, which means that the parks are certainly going to look different. If you’re planning to spend a lot of time in EPCOT this upcoming year, beware — crowds will likely be heavier than we’ve seen in recent years for a multitude of different reasons! A LACK of Construction In 2025, Animal Kingdom and Magic Kingdom are currently slated to have the most construction, with construction headed for Hollywood Studios likely later in the year. While Test Track is currently behind walls right now, it’ll be opening up this coming summer (and we’ll talk more about that in a second!), meaning that EPCOT will be the park with the LEAST amount of construction! EPCOT This is stark difference to just a few years ago when EPCOT was nearly ALL construction walls and the other three parks were mostly devoid of any blockages. We guess it was about time that EPCOT had its moment in the spotlight as one of the most put-together (when it comes to looks) parks in the resort after being wall-cot for so many years. Many guests who visit frequently may choose to visit the park with fewer walls to make their walking a little easier. Test Track 3.0 is Opening! Speaking of Test Track, the new version of this ride (its third edition) is set to open to the public in late summer 2025! Guests who have missed this attraction will very likely find themselves booking trips to visit the updated attraction either right when it opens, or soon after. Construction at Test Track November 28th So far from what we’ve been able to see of construction behind walls (from riding on the Monorail — no unauthorized visits or photos on our part!), it looks like the attraction still has its single rider line, so if you’ve got no interest in seeing the updated queue and just want to get to ride the new attraction ASAP, single rider will be the way to go! Spaceship Earth Lounge There’s also a new lounge coming to EPCOT in 2025, which is extra special to those who love Spaceship Earth! This new lounge, inspired by and set near the iconic attraction, will be opening in late spring 2025. ©Disney While EPCOT often has festivals going on, there are a few weeks throughout the year where festivals aren’t taking place, and so this will (hopefully) add another great spot to eat in the park! Not only that, it looks like from the concept art it’ll be a fantastic location to see stunning views of the park during the day or at night, but it’ll be a prime spot for fireworks! Gran Fiesta Tour…Update? Disney recently announced that Gran Fiesta Tour Starring the Three Caballeros would be closing for a months-long refurbishment on January 6th. It’s currently set to reopen on March 15th. Gran Fiesta Tour The thing is, we don’t really know why this ride is closing! We’re assuming it’s just for regular maintenance, but we know we’ll be curious to see how the ride has changed (if at all) when it reopens, and we know we won’t be the only ones! So if you’re visiting in March, the Mexico Pavilion may be a little busier than you expected. EPCOT Festivals Now, this isn’t a new reason for why the parks will be busy, but EPCOT festivals almost always attract large crowds to the parks! While some of the biggest crowds are often on the opening and closing weekends, or just weekends in general, festivals are a big reason why the park, and World Showcase in particular, are jam packed during festivals. 21. I’m the kind of person who could get lost in their own house. I have literally NO sense of direction, and I don’t drive anywhere I haven’t been to at least a dozen times without using Google Maps and navigation. So we know just how big Disney World is, right? And although the parks are laid out in a way that sort of makes sense (well, not you, Hollywood Studios), I can still get lost. Imagine if you’re someone like me with no sense of direction who’s never been to the parks before? Well, there’s a handy Google Maps feature the DFB team just uncovered that could make navigating the parks a lot easier — if you plan ahead. So, something I occasionally do when I can’t be in Disney World is look at it on maps (and then dream about being there). Now, I often look at the parks via Google Maps and then use the Satellite View to see actual details from the parks from a bird’s eye view. But did you know you can navigate through Disney World via the Google Maps Street View feature? ©Google If you need to learn your way around the parks, you can literally use Street View to learn how to get from Point A to Point B in the parks. Just click on one of the blue lines on the map to get started. This way, you can virtually walk around Magic Kingdom like you’re really there. You can take a virtual walk down Main Street, U.S.A., if you want. ©Google However, if you’ve been to Disney World recently or know about recent events, you’ll recognize that some of these photos are outdated (for example, Cinderella’s Castle is wearing its old colors and not its new colors from a few years ago). So, that could be a downside of using Street View like this. We tried this in other parks, too — we walked around Toy Story Land in Disney’s Hollywood Studios through Google Maps Street View. ©Google How about a stroll around Spaceship Earth in EPCOT? Yep, you can do that, too! ©Google And, of course, I like to walk through my FAVORITE park, Animal Kingdom, every chance I get. Did you know you can virtually walk through the Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail? Yep, you can! ©Google So what about resorts? Well, we looked at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, which is HUGE. If you need to learn your way around ANY resort, this is the one. Well, we were out of luck — you can’t virtually walk around the resorts with Street View, but you can see photos of important spots, like hotel lobbies, dining, etc. That’s still pretty cool, though, and you can see those in 360 degrees. However, if you want to learn your way around the parks or if you just want to revisit the parks when you’re not there, like I often do, Google Street View is a fun way to bring that magic into your home whenever you want. 22. Isn’t it wild how close we are to 2025?! Welcome to the Most Magical Place on Earth! And if you’re planning a Disney World trip in 2025, you’re going to want to brace yourself. Three of the four parks – Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, and Hollywood Studios – are about to enter construction chaos. Big changes are coming, which is exciting in the long term, but in the short term? It’s going to be a mess. Let’s break down why these parks might have you reaching for an extra churro (or three) to cope. Animal Kingdom If you haven’t heard, DinoLand U.S.A. is going to be going the way of the dinosaur and it all starts on January 13th, 2025. The short of it is that entire area is closing to make way for the brand-new Tropical Americas land. While this transformation is super exciting, it does mean our favorite construction walls will be back and we’ll have limited access to the area for quite some time. Here’s a glimpse at what is coming: Encanto Ride: an all-new Encanto-themed ride with the family Madrigal inside the enchanted Casita. ©Disney Indiana Jones attraction: will have a brand new story which will set it apart from any other Indiana Jones ride in existence. ©Disney And if that wasn’t enough, over on Discovery Island, Zootopia: Better Zoogether! will be replacing “It’s Tough to Be a Bug” at the Tree of Life Theater by winter 2025. ©Disney While these updates sound fantastic, the reality is that Animal Kingdom will feel smaller and busier than ever. Closing DinoLand U.S.A. is like cutting off an entire section of the park, which will leave fewer attractions to absorb the crowds. Combine that with construction noise and visual clutter, and you’ve got a recipe for some very crowded walkways. Hollywood Studios Hollywood Studios is also undergoing a major transformation. The Muppets Courtyard is closing permanently to make room for the brand-new Monsters, Inc. Land. While that is exciting, if you’re a Muppet’s fan, it’s a bittersweet announcement. ©Disney But wait, there’s more! Rock ’n’ Rollercoaster is getting re-themed into a Muppets-themed coaster. ©Disney Similar to Animal Kingdom, during this construction phase, the park is going to feel…chaotic. Hollywood Studios is already notorious for its bottlenecks. Now, add in closures, re-routing, and construction walls, and you’ve got a logistical nightmare. Magic Kingdom Magic Kingdom has some of the biggest changes on the horizon, and in 2025, the park will essentially be a construction zone. Here’s the short on what’s happening: Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America are closing forever. These areas are being replaced by a new Cars-themed area. ‘Cars’ area in Magic Kingdom ©Disney Villains Land is being built beyond Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. ©Disney Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will close on January 6th, 2025, for a refurbishment lasting over a year. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Astro Orbiter will also close for refurbishment starting January 13th and will reopen in the summer of 2025. The old Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade is being replaced by a DVC lounge. ©Disney If you’re doing the math, that’s a lot of closures. While we can’t wait to see what Disney has planned, construction on this scale is going to create a lot of headaches for guests. Between rerouted pathways, blocked views, and increased congestion in Frontierland and Liberty Square, it’s going to take some serious patience to navigate Magic Kingdom in 2025. Magic Kingdom What This Means for Your Disney Trip Here’s the bottom line: 2025 is going to be an “interesting” year to visit Disney World. With three parks undergoing significant construction, you’ll need to manage your expectations. Ride closures, construction walls, and heavier crowds in the remaining open areas will definitely make planning a bit trickier than usual. So, if you do decide to visit, here are some tips: Plan Ahead: Stay updated on which attractions will be open during your visit. Book a Shorter Trip: With fewer rides available, you might not need extra days to experience everything. You might want to Focus on EPCOT: Since EPCOT isn’t facing the same level of chaos, it might be the easiest park to enjoy in 2025. At the end of the day, 2025 could still be your year, so you might want to pack some extra patience, and maybe your best pair of walking shoes. 23. If you’ve ever flown to Disney World with a flight to Orlando International Airport, you might have noticed that it’s a pretty busy airport. Orlando International Airport This is why we’re always offering our best tips on how best to navigate the airport and suggesting things like using MCO Reserve, as well as getting to the airport EARLY if you’re on a flight departing from Orlando. It IS one of the busiest airports in the U.S., after all. However, have you ever wondered which particular route is the BUSIEST going to and from Orlando? Well, we’re going to tell you! According to OAG, the busiest flight route to and from Orlando, as well as the busiest in the entire U.S., is the route to and from Orlando and Atlanta. Approximately 3,474,713 plane seats have been filled for that route in 2024. That is a LOT of people making that journey to and from Atlanta! ©OAG This probably has a lot to do with Atlanta being a hub for many connecting flights to Orlando, especially for those of us who can’t get a direct flight to and from Orlando (or want to save a bit of money by taking a connecting flight instead). We’ve connected in Atlanta DOZENS of times on our way to Disney World. Atlanta is also a major hub for Delta Airlines. Orlando International Airport It’s no secret that Orlando International Airport can get really busy, especially this time of year. You’ll want to remember some important tips that will make flying during the holiday season more pleasant. First, arrive at the airport at least three hours before your and be at the security checkpoint at least two hours before your departure time. You’ll also want to be at your gate an hour before your flight departs. This is known as the 3-2-1 rule. Orlando International Airport Stay tuned to DFB for more. 25. Aloha! The Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows has officially opened! Island Tower Disney World’s newest resort is a new Disney Vacation Club addition next to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. Previously, it was home to the Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show, which closed in March of 2020. This new hotel is home to stunning views of Seven Seas Lagoon, has a Moana-themed splash pad, and a brand new restaurant! While all of this is super exciting, unfortunately, this new hotel is not all that it seems, as we have some bad news about the Island Tower. The Island Tower officially opened on December 17th, and we have checked out everything! There is no denying that this hotel is beautiful, but just like any new project, it does have its flaws, and we were left disappointed in a few areas. Island Tower lobby Generic Theming of Rooms A complaint that we have seen recently is that Disney is taking a step away from the classic Disney theming that they are known for and taking steps towards a more generic and modern theming of rooms. Deluxe Studio While this is the standard in the hotel industry, Disney charges a premium for its hotels and resorts so that you can expect a unique stay. While the new rooms at the Island Tower are clean and modern, they lack the Disney touch and are comparable to rooms at a Hilton or Marriot. This nook is so nice What we will say is that pictures do NOT do the room justice; we were actually shocked by the vibe of the room in person versus the pictures. So yes, while we are taking a few points off for the rooms looking a bit generic in photos, we will say the vibe of the room does feel a bit less generic once you are in it yourself. Bathroom in Deluxe Studio Not All Views are Created Equal While the pool and Wailulu Bar & Grill offer beautiful views of Seven Seas Lagoon and the Magic Kingdom, not all room views are created equal. We didn’t love this view Depending on which room you book, your balcony may overlook the parking lot, the Grand Floridian, or the golf course. While this can be a bummer, this is not unusual, as this is pretty standard for Disney Vacation Club Resorts. Take Bay Lake Tower, for example. Park View rooms will cost you more points, whereas Bay Lake View rooms will be middle-tier points, and Standard View rooms will run you the least amount of points. So if you want a better view, you will have to splurge by spending more. Views will vary We Miss its Predecessor While Walt Disney did say, “Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world.” the same goes for Disney World; we can’t help but wish that Disney included some form of live entertainment along with the opening of the Island Tower. Island Tower As we mentioned, the Island Tower took over the previous home of the Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show, which was a Luau. It would have been nice for Disney to include some part of the show still to make this DVC resort stand out. Old Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show Sign Breakfast is Only ‘Grab and Go’ For the moment, if you are looking to grab breakfast before heading into the parks, Wailulu Bar & Grill only offers a limited ‘Grab and Go’ breakfast menu. If you are looking for a table service meal or warm entrees, you will have to head over to the Great Ceremonial House. Breakfast menu It Does Not Smell Like the Great Ceremonial House Each resort has its own scent, especially the monorail resorts, and we were shocked that the Island Tower does not have the Polynesian smell! Come on, Disney, get it together and start pumping in that delicious tropical scent! Great Ceremonial House Transportation is Not Convenient Since the Island Tower is an extension of the Polynesian Village Resort, if you want to use Disney transportation, you will have to head on over to the Great Ceremonial House to catch the bus, boat, or monorail, which is not super convenient. For the time being, Uber and Lyft only pick up at the Great Ceremonial House as well, so this can be a bit of a pain if you are not bringing or renting a car. Monorail at the Polynesian While we do have a few gripes with this new hotel, we can’t deny it is beautiful, and it is still in its first few days of operation, so who knows what changes might be ahead!
