  1. Hurricane season means that we have to keep a careful eye on the weather in the Atlantic Ocean during this certain time of year. Rain on Main Street during Hurricane Idalia in 2023 Hurricane season runs from June 1st through November 30th, and many experts believe this season could be more active than anything we’ve previously seen. We’ve already seen one hurricane in the U.S., Hurricane Beryl, which recently heavily impacted Texas (and brought severe weather to other parts of the country). Now, meteorologists are carefully monitoring a tropical depression headed toward Florida that is expected to become a tropical storm. FEMA recently issued a warning about that storm, and we have the latest update. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has issued a warning to those who live in Florida and those visiting Florida to prepare for a tropical depression over the Straits of Florida or eastern Gulf of Mexico near the Florida Peninsula. A Tropical Storm Watch is also in effect for the Florida Keys, as well as the west coast of Florida. According to The National Hurricane Center (NHC), the system could develop into a Tropical Storm and will likely bring heavy rain and flash flooding across Florida through the weekend. ©NHC A hurricane watch has been issued for parts of west-central Florida, as well as the Big Bend region, where hurricane conditions are possible late Saturday evening. Tropical storm conditions are expected further south along the state’s west coast, including Tampa Bay, and across the Dry Tortugas where Tropical Storm Warnings are currently in effect. Also, storm surge warnings are in effect for the west coast of Florida. Orlando does not currently have any warnings or watches, but that could change. Hurricane near Disney Springs FEMA encourages those in the path of the storm to pay close attention to weather forecasts, as well as to the advice of local officials. If you are visiting Disney World, you should pay attention to Cast Members, who are prepared to handle this kind of storm throughout the resort. We’ll continue to keep an eye on the situation, but if you’re in the area, make sure you stay weather aware. 3. Listen, Disney World is more than kiddie rides and merry-go-rounds. There are some pretty epic thrill rides and some action-packed entertainment in the parks. Deadpool even recently made an appearance at Disney California Adventure. DEADPOOL! Point is, there are all kinds of things to do in Disney World beside the classic rides. Magic Kingdom Speaking of characters in Disney parks, we have to discuss a big change that just went into effect. Were you ever lucky enough to skip the line for a long character meet-and-greet? Well, you might not get so lucky on your next trip to Disney World, and we think we know why. OK, let’s start at the beginning. For a few years now, Disney has offered a skip-the-line service as a paid add-on. The service was called Genie+, and it has since been renamed and updated to become Lightning Lane Multi Pass. One of the biggest changes with Multi Pass is that you can purchase the service and book your first three ride reservations BEFORE your trip. If you’re staying at a Disney World hotel, you can make your selections up to seven days in advance. Everyone else can make selections three days in advance. TL;DR: Lightning Lane Multi Pass is the new way to pay to skip the lines to most Disney World rides. Lightning Lanes in Walt Disney World Why are we talking about Lightning Lanes and characters? Well, when the new Lightning Lane Multi Pass system went live in July, we noticed something pretty important was missing from the lineup. Not every ride and attraction is available through Lightning Lane Multi Pass, and now, one MORE attraction is unavailable with Multi Pass. These Attractions Are Missing From the New Lightning Lane System in Disney World Disney has removed all character meet-and-greets from the list of attractions available under Lighting Lane Multi Pass. That means no skipping the line to meet Mickey at Town Square Theater and no using the express lane at Mickey and Friends at CommuniCore Hall in EPCOT. You’re gonna have to wait in the standby line for ALL character meet-and-greets now. Town Square Theater Additionally, the old Genie+ perk that allowed us to watch Magic Kingdom’s Festival of Fantasy parade from a reserved viewing area is GONE. Lighting Lane Multi Pass does NOT offer any special Festival of Fantasy parade viewing. Festival of Fantasy Parade Now, Disney hasn’t made any official announcements about this change. We may never know exactly why they decided to take away this offering. But we have some ideas. Disney Genie, Genie Plus, and Lightning Lanes: Here’s EVERYTHING You Need to Know! This isn’t something you’ll find in a guidebook. Here’s the thing about Disney World meet-and-greets: they aren’t all created equally, and it’s hard to factor them into a rigid service like Lightning Lane Multi Pass. Princess Fairytale Hall Some meet-and-greets are random, fun surprises that aren’t advertised on the My Disney Experience app. For these types of character interactions, Cast Members try to limit the number of people in the area and close the line at their own discretion. Translation: you have to be super lucky to stumble upon one of these surprise meet-and-greets. You never know who you might see! OBVIOUSLY, those types of meet-and-greets would never work with a system like Lightning Lane Multi Pass. But there are other character meet-and-greets that happen pretty much all day, every day in Disney World, like the Anna and Elsa meet-and-greet in EPCOT or the Mickey Mouse meet-and-greet in Magic Kingdom. We know exactly how long these characters will be out for the day and where to find them, so why is it so hard to use a skip-the-line service here, you may ask? We love meeting characters in the parks! OK, we have some former Disney World Cast Members on the team here, and while we can’t comment on Disney’s exact reasoning, we have an idea about why Disney took character meet-and-greets away from the Lightning Lane lineup. Here’s the problem with using two separate lines to meet characters: it’s complicated. Unlike, say, Soarin’, character meet-and-greets involve human interaction. Minnie at the “Mickey & Friends” Meet and Greet That means Mickey may spend some extra time with a super sweet little baby. Or it could mean Princess Moana has to go feed Pua. Or it could mean the meet-and-greet has an unexpected pause, delay, or cancelation. And when people are paying for a service to jump to the front of the line amid any behind-the-scenes circumstances that may be happening…well, it’s tricky! Cast Members might not be able to share the exact reason for an unexpected delay at these kinds of meet-and-greets, so it’s easier to stick with just a standby line. Cinderella Of course, Disney could change its mind and bring back the Lightning Lane at these kinds of meet-and-greets, but in our experience, things seem to run more smoothly when there’s only one line to deal with at these kinds of attractions. In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more. 6 UNHINGED Disney World Snack Hacks Disney Experts Swear By Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! 4. Are you ready to try some great cuisine out on the Seven Seas?! ©Disney | Disney Magic Cruise Ship We certainly were when we recently sailed aboard the Disney Cruise Line’s Disney Magic cruise ship! While sailing with the Disney Cruise Line, you’re in for a unique experience full of good times, good opportunities to make lifelong memories, and, of course, good food. Speaking of food, we tried a bunch of different restaurants during our latest voyage — including Animator’s Palate. Come along for a review of this animation-themed restaurant! Atmosphere If a restaurant that comes alive sounds appealing to you, definitely check out Animator’s Palate! Animator’s Palate When you first enter, you’ll be greeted by the friendly staff and tons of black and white décor. The restaurant is themed with Disney sketches and artwork, making you feel like you’re in a Disney Animation sketchbook! As the meal progresses, however, the restaurant slowly becomes more colorful as those black and white sketches transform into finished (and moving) creations. You might even get a visit from Sorcerer Mickey! This restaurant can be found on the Disney Wonder, Disney Dream, and Disney Fantasy, as well, and the Magic’s dining room is identical to that of the Animator’s Palate dining room aboard the Wonder. The Dream and Fantasy dining rooms are a bit more updated. Meg from Hercules As for the layout of the restaurant, the dining room has a mix of tables, and since this is part of the ship’s rotational dining, your server will follow you to this spot. With that down, let’s jump into the menu! Menu Animator’s Palate boasts a menu of “Pacific Island foods, Asian cooking, and fresh California fare.” Menu The menu includes all kinds of delicious goodies. Appetizers feature smoked salmon tartare, wild mushroom risotto, black truffle pasta purseittes, and creamy butternut squash soup. You’ll also find specialties such as the taleggio cheese flatbread and a polenta cake topped with Roma tomatoes and Portobello mushrooms. Beauty and the Beast in Animator’s Palate As for mains, Animator’s Palate offers Pacific black cod, lemon-thyme marinated organic chicken breast, Angus beef tenderloin, and white shrimp pennette pasta. There are some vegetarian options, such as stir fry vegetables and black bean chipotle cakes, and a children’s menu. Scene from Tangled Finally, the restaurant offers a strong dessert menu that features crème brûlèe, peanut butter mousse, and classic ice-cream sundae, among others. You will also find an extensive wine list in addition to a wide array of after-dinner liqueurs, dessert wines, and specialty drinks. Dessert menu Does everything taste as good as it sounds? Let’s take a look! Eats During our most recent visit, we tried the Garlic and Herb Foccacia, Black Truffle Pasta Purseittes Pasta Purses, Ginger-Teriyaki dusted Angus Beef Tenderloin, Tomato Tarte, Baked Potato and Cheddar Cheese Soup, Creamy Butternut Squash Soup Grilled Tuna Steak, Pennette Bolognese, and Lemon-Thyme Marinated All-Natural Chicken Breast. Let’s dive in! Table setting The Garlic and Herb Foccacia with a roasted garlic dip bread service was the best bread service we had during our trip aboard the Disney Magic. While the bread wasn’t necessarily a standout, the garlic dip was so good we could eat it without bread. Garlic and Herb Foccacia Another nice plate that wasn’t necessarily a standout was the Tomato Tarte with glazed goat cheese and shaved radish. It features some light flavors and works great as a starter, prepping you for heavier courses. We also think it’s a great veggie option. Tomato Tarte Next up is the Disney Cruise Line staple, the Black Truffle Pasta Purseittes. This dish is made with pasta purses filled with truffle-scented cheese and coated with a delicate champagne sauce. We thought these were SO GOOD that we got multiple orders! This legendary dish features pasta that is perfectly al dente and filled with delicious truffle cheese that isn’t overwhelming but still gives a great truffle flavor. The champagne sauce is the perfect complementary piece, making this dish an absolute MUST-TRY. Black Truffle Pasta Purseittes We opted for the Baked Potato and Cheddar Cheese Soup and we’re glad we did! This soup comes with bacon bits and chives and we found it to be pretty delicious. Simple, yet creamy, this potato soup was rustic and comforting. Baked Potato and Cheddar Cheese Soup We also tried the Creamy Butternut Squash Soup, which is garnished with chives and drizzled sour cream. We found this soup to be incredibly savory, earthy, and tasty! Our soup could’ve used a bit more seasoning, but we were still very happy with this starter. Creamy Butternut Squash Soup Getting into the main courses, the Grilled Tuna Steak is accompanied by fingerling confit, caponata, sun-dried tomato pesto, and aioli. We’ve had this before, and it’s one of our favorite entrées at the restaurant. Hearty, bursting with flavor, and a fantastic fish meal, this grilled tuna steak never lets us down. Grilled Tuna Steak Next, we tried the Lemon-Thyme Marinated All-Natural Chicken Breast with sour cream mashed potatoes, roasted root vegetables, and grain mustard jus. Our chicken was perfectly cooked and packed with juicy flavor. The marinade gave complexity to the skin, making it more accessible to even the pickiest of eaters. We were also big fans of the mashed potatoes, as they were thick without tons of chunks. Lemon-Thyme Marinated All-Natural Chicken Breast Up next is the Pennette Bolognese. This dish comes with pennette pasta mixed with a rich bolognese sauce garnished with shaved parmigiano-reggiano and toasted garlic ciabatta. We thought this was fine, but nothing great. The pasta was cooked wonderfully and the sauce had a light acidity that we liked, and while it’s super filling, we don’t think our plate was seasoned enough. This is kind of a safe option but not a bad one. Pennette Bolognese The last entrée we ordered was the Ginger-Teriyaki dusted Angus Beef Tenderloin. This dish is served on wasabi mashed potatoes with bok choy and a tamarind barbecue reduction. The beef was the star here. Ours was very tender and juicy, and you couldn’t ask more of the cook of the meat. HOWEVER, we could not taste the wasabi flavor in our potatoes, which were creamy but could’ve used more flavor. Similarly, the barbecue reduction was watery and flavorless, and with a beef dish like this, you kind of expect a ton of bold flavors. Matched up to everything else we tried, this was a bit of a letdown. Ginger-Teriyaki dusted Angus Beef Tenderloin With all that down, let’s collect our overall thoughts… Overall Animator’s Palate is still a very pleasant dining experience. Surrounded by the art that has defined Disney for a century, this restaurant gives you those patented Disney vibes while serving up so sophisticated food. Animator’s Palate décor While the menu offers options that could prove troublesome for picky eaters, we do think its selections are varied enough that it’s likely you’ll find something everyone can enjoy. The food is filling, very tasty, and the atmosphere is tough to beat. We recommend giving this restaurant a try at least once! Nosh or Not? Make sure you dine at Animator’s Palate if… You want a Disney-fied fine dining experience. The dishes here are elegant and packed with tons of elevated flavor profiles. This ain’t theme park food. You’re a Disney fanatic. If you’re sailing on a Disney cruise, you likely fall into this category. Surrounded by beloved Disney animation, this restaurant immerses you into the world of Disney art. You’re craving Black Truffle Pasta Purseittes. Seriously ya’ll, this dish is SOOO good! Pass on Animator’s Palate if… You want simplified meals. We think there are some picky-eater-friendly meals on the menu, but there could be flavors here that the pickiest of eaters aren’t comfortable with. You’re looking for something more intimate. This is a family-friendly restaurant, and it doesn’t let you forget that you’re on a Disney cruise for a second. If you want to get away from the Disney noise, this isn’t the place to do it. You eat here every vacation and want a change. As we previously mentioned, Animator’s Palate is a staple on several Disney ships, so it’s possible that you’ve been there and done that when it comes to this restaurant. If you’re ready to branch out, maybe skip this spot during your next dining rotation. Scene from Tangled Thanks for coming along for our Animator’s Palate review! 5. When you’re traveling to Disney World, nonstop flights are often the way to go. Orlando International Airport There’s no stress about making a connection; the likelihood of your checked bags getting lost diminishes a little bit, and you know you’ll be at your destination with just one time in the air. We keep you updated on all the latest nonstop flights coming TO Orlando Airport to help you plan, but now we bring you the unfortunate news that one nonstop flight is being taken AWAY. The Orlando Business Journal has reported that American Airlines will be ending its year-round nonstop service from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport to Orlando Airport, as well as New Orleans. They’ll also be stopping their seasonal flights from Austin, Texas to Palm Springs, California and Reno, Nevada. Orlando International Airport This is the latest move by the airline to reduce its service in Austin, Texas. The reduction in service will begin in October, with the airline saying, “American will continue to offer customers access to our comprehensive global network of more than 350 destinations with one-stop connections. We’re proactively reaching out to impacted customers and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.” ©American Airlines While one-stop connections can be easy to manage, they quickly can turn into a nightmare if your original flight is delayed and takes off too late, causing you to miss your connection. American Airlines is the fifth largest airline at Orlando International Airport, with 5.68 million passengers in 2023, so it’s nearly guaranteed this change is going to impact a lot of travelers. Thanks to the addition of many flights, Visit Orlando has found that “advance domestic and international airline ticket sales into Orlando are up 6.6% from June to August.” American Airlines Information Packet However, Delta, Southwest, and Spirit Airlines all continue to provide nonstop service from Austin to Orlando, so if you’re taking this route soon, this is something to keep in mind! 8. We know there are some fancy treats at Disney World that are fit for a princess, but you haven’t seen anything like these before, so buckle up. It’s time to celebrate World Princess Week once again, and Disney World is bringing us several treats inspired by some of our favorite characters. “Make It Pink, Make It Blue” Aurora Fruit Tart We tasted a few of these exclusive treats that just debuted around Disney World, and we can’t wait to share our thoughts! World Princess Week is officially happening at Disney World from August 25th through the 31st, and with the celebration across the parks and hotels comes one of our favorite parts — new treats! But, since Disney World knows how to really throw a regal party, they’re making some of these exclusive offerings available all month long. We knew to expect some limited-time treats, and now they’re finally here. Princess Tiana Of course, this meant we needed to start our quest through all of Disney World to search high and low (not really; we knew exactly where to go) to find some sweet treats, and we have to admit, it was quite the journey. Here’s a look at three new treats we tried! Guardian of the Dragon Gem We rounded out our “best day ever” as we headed over to The Ganachery at Disney Springs for this next treat. Here you can snag the Rapunzel Ganache Pop for $7 which is made of dark chocolate, vanilla beans, candied cherries, and covered in 65% dark chocolate! Yum is an understatement with this one! Rapunzel Ganache Pop Although we didn’t see the vanilla beans and candied cherries on or inside the pop, we DEFINITELY tasted them! At first we thought the cherry was a bit tart like a raspberry but then changed our minds as we were able to process the flavor a bit more. Our main complaint flavor-wise with this one is that the tartness of the cherry fruit almost overpowered the chocolate as a whole. Inside the pop! Overall, for the price, we’re pretty confident there are other treats that are more filling to to grab nearby that might leave a more lasting impression on you but we do have to admit this was beautiful to look at! This is only a handful of treats you can pick up if you’ll be visiting Disney World in the next few weeks. But, you’ll want to be quick because they’re only out for a limited time. Make a core memory and meet Joy from “Inside Out 2” at Pixar Plaza The star of this summer’s most-loved movie and the main character in 13-year-old Riley’s mind is hanging out at Hollywood Studios, ready to add more happiness to your best day ever. Catch the sunset from the sky with a trip on the Disney Skyliner. There’s truly something magical about a Florida sunset – and one of my favorite places to watch is on the Disney Skyliner. Ride a gondola from EPCOT or Disney’s Hollywood Studios for the perfect summer view. Hop off at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort and chill with a fruity, frosty beverage at Banana Cabana, or for a late-night cocktail, visit Le Petit Café at Disney’s Riviera Resort. While you’re there, veer right down the hall and check out photos and nostalgia from Walt Disney’s own travels. My tip: If you’re still deciding where to stay for your Disney World trip, consider Caribbean Beach or one of the other resorts with direct Skyliner access. I also love the EPCOT-area resorts for a vacation homebase because they’re a short walk to the Skyliner and an array of snacks and shopping at Disney’s BoardWalk. Check out the latest summer savings on rooms. Cool down and take in the iconic Carousel of Progress at Magic Kingdom. Did you know this show has traveled across the country multiple times? Talk about the ultimate American road trip! Originally conceived for the 1964-1965 New York World’s Fair, the show took up residence at Disneyland Park from 1967-1973 before landing at Tommorrowland in the Magic Kingdom in 1975. Sit down, cool down and you’ll know the words to “It’s a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow” in no time. I can’t promise you won’t be humming it for the rest of your trip. Snap a selfie before and after Kali River Rapids Okay, it’s very important that you take the before selfie with your crew so you can decide who, if anyone, escaped the wrath of this white-water adventure at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park. Use your MagicBand+ to become a bounty hunter on Batuu Have you ever seen your fellow travelers congregating near the bounty board across from Ronto Roasters in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge? They’re playing Batuu Bounty Hunters with the Play Disney Parks app – one of the coolest ways to explore Black Spire Outpost! Tap your MagicBand+ to get your first assignment and collect credits from the Guild Master when you’ve captured your target. Head to Tamu Tamu Refreshments at Animal Kingdom for a refreshing summer snack Nothing beats a cool treat in the summer and the Zazu Ice Cream Sandwich fits the bill. The timing of this delicious dish is impeccable because “The Lion King” is celebrating its 30th anniversary! Check out the Disney Eats guide to learn more about all the wild treats only available this summer. Put on your dancing shoes at CommuniCore Plaza at EPCOT Show off your best dance moves with the Madrigals during the day at “¡Celebracion Encanto!,” or with a Latin groove band when the sun sets. Grab a snack at the nearby Festival Favorites and let’s definitely talk about Bruno in this stunning new outdoor space. Enjoy extra time in the parks with a special After-Hours ticketed event. Midday flight into town? Extending a work trip? Need more time in the parks to explore? Disney After Hours events offer an unbeatable night to explore the parks with fan-favorite ice cream treats, popcorn and select beverages included. For me, this limited-capacity event is the ultimate hack at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, where you can enter the park as early as 7 p.m. — before the event starts! Be sure to ride Slinky Dog Dash at night and snap some nighttime photos near the Millennium Falcon before joining a walk-up list at Oga’s Cantina. Or make a splash after dark at Disney’s H2O Glow at Typhoon Lagoon, featuring a DJ dance party and characters appearances like summer vacation specialists, Phineas and Ferb! There’s plenty of summer left and endless amount of magic to explore at Disney World, however you choose to visit. Use this handy checklist to keep track of everything you’ve done and be sure to share your progress on your favorite social media channels. I can’t wait to see all the memories you’ll make! 12. You never know when new restaurants, rides, or rethemed classics will pop up at Disney World! Cinderella Castle But, that usually means dealing with a bit of renovation in order to make it happen. Keeping up with the latest construction permits Disney files can be a great way to find out just what is going on around the parks and hotels, and we recently spotted a couple that we think are pretty exciting! We’re always on the hunt for the latest construction permits filed by Disney to get an idea of what sort of changes might be coming to the parks, and we found a couple you might want to know about this time around! Magic Kingdom Test Track has officially closed as of June 17th for its reimagining! Disney has shared that the new version of Test Track will take inspiration from the old ride, World of Motion, which was originally there when the park opened in 1982. And, while Disney hasn’t shared many other details about the project, including a re-opening date, we did spot a new permit for this project! Test Track The scope of work is listed as “install set design,” which doesn’t really give us much specificity. What is interesting, though, is that the contractor listed on the permit is Spitz, Inc., who also worked on the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind ride at EPCOT. We’ve seen other permits filed for Test Track which leads us to believe that Disney may have this project completed relatively soon, based on the expiration dates of the permits. Reimagining concept art ©Disney We also found a permit for an area near Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Resort! This one was filed for “site and facility improvements” with Balfour Beatty listed as the contractor. The area that matches the address on the permit is located near the lakeside cabins at this hotel, the Copper Creek Villas and Cabins. Copper Creek Villas Not only that, but the expiration date on this permit indicated this will be a long project. Instead of the standard, one-year expiration, the permit lists March 31, 2027 — a whopping two and a half years from now. We don’t have too many details — but it does make us wonder if Disney will announce an expansion for this hotel at the upcoming D23 event! ©Disney In the meantime, we’ll be on the hunt for the latest news from Disney World and more — so stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest news! 14. Another day, another round of changes at Disney World. Hi, Mickey! Now that Genie+ has been renamed to Lightning Lane Multi Pass (and Individual Lightning Lanes are now Lightning Lane Single Pass), we’ve been testing the system since the day it debuted to figure out all the idiosyncrasies. And, since we’ve had a chance to get to know the system, we’re busting common lies you’ll hear about Disney World’s NEW Lightning Lanes. Genie+ is no more, and Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass have officially rolled out at Disney World. And, while we do have pretty positive thoughts on the new system, we don’t blame you if you still have reservations. But we’re here to dispel some common lies you might be hearing about the new Lightning Lane system at Disney World. Goodbye Genie+ To catch you up on the changes, as of July 24th, Disney World has officially switched over to Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Passes. Under the new system, you can: Make Lightning Lane plans BEFORE you’re in the parks Choose experiences and times prior to purchasing so you know what you’re getting with your purchase Book Lightning Lane passes for MULTIPLE vacation days, all at once Lightning Lanes in Walt Disney World Genie+ is now called Lightning Lane Multi Pass. This is an optional, PAID service available on the My Disney Experience app. Lightning Lane Multi Pass users are able to bypass standby lines and utilize the Lightning Lane (previously known as the FastPass line) at select attractions in the parks by paying a single fee for multiple attractions. When purchasing Lightning Lane Multi Pass, you can make up to THREE Lightning Lane Multi Pass selections in a park ahead of your visit. Additionally, you must choose from a list of available times as you make your attraction selections, and you can continue to hold up to three Lighting Lane Multi Pass selections at a time. ©Disney If you’re staying at a Disney World hotel (and select other hotels), you will be able to purchase and select your first three Lightning Lane Multi Passes up to seven days in advance of your check-in day for your entire stay (up to 14 days). If you are not staying in a Disney World hotel, you can purchase and select your first three Lightning Lane Multi Passes three days in advance. Starting now, Disney is also using a tiered system for ride selections. (Remember how we said this sounded like FastPass+? Well, this might sound familiar!) Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios all use this tiered system to group their rides, and from those initial three advance selections, you can choose one experience from a higher-tiered group and two experiences (or all three) from a lower-tiered group. Tiers do not apply at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. You can see the full list of ride tiers here. New changes hit Disney World! With Lightning Lane Single Pass, you can pay a fee to utilize the Lightning Lane for an individual, in-demand attraction. The only major change here is that you can make your purchase before your trip in order to plan in advance! Just like the Multi Pass, you can select your first THREE Lightning Lane Single Passes up to seven days in advance if you’re staying at a Disney World hotel. All other guests can purchase and select their first three Lightning Lane Single Passes three days in advance. ©Disney Okay, now that you’re caught up — onto those pesky little lies. You Have To Pay MORE To Park Hop Lie number one is a BIG one, and we can totally see why! Before the changes, the Genie+ system featured a “multi-park” option that was priced the same as Magic Kingdom daily, where you’d have to pay a bit more to be able to park hop and use Genie+ in multiple parks on the same day. So, a lot of folks assumed a similar situation would be at hand with the new Lightning Lane Multi Pass system. Haunted Mansion Lightning Lane But, that’s not the case at all! You only have to purchase Lightning Lane Multi Pass in one park — your first of the day — and you can use it in the rest of the parks as well, provided you have valid park hopper admission. So, even if you visit Animal Kingdom first where the price is, say, $18, and hop to Magic Kingdom later where the price is $25 (or something along those lines), you wouldn’t have to pay the difference at all! Learn More About Park Hopping with the NEW Lightning Lanes at Disney World You Can Only Book One Day at a Time with Date-Based Tickets Folks with date-based tickets can only book one day at a time starting three days out?! That is simply just NOT true. Lightning Lane In fact, Disney’s official language on the website reads, “Guests with date-based theme park tickets (which require the Guest to choose a start date at the time of purchase) can purchase 3 days before the first day of their ticket, for the total number of valid admission days on their ticket.” Lightning Lane So, if you’ve got date-based tickets — don’t be disadvantaged by thinking you can only book one day of Lightning Lanes at a time. If you have tickets for four consecutive days, for example, you can book all four days’ worth of Lightning Lanes three days before your first park visit. This can come in handy when trying to snag the more popular rides! Annual Passholders and those with non-date-based tickets are still only able to book day by day, though, so keep that in mind. You Can Only Use 3 Multi Passes Per Day A common myth we hear is that once you’ve chosen your three Multi Pass rides for the day — that’s it, you can’t book anymore. FALSE. As soon as you use your first Multi Pass of the day, you’re able to book another, and so forth. The only caveat here is that you can only hold three Multi Passes at any given time. Lightning Lane But, you can continue to book new Lightning Lanes each time you use one, so we recommend refreshing and refreshing and then refreshing again to snag a ride at a time that works for you! And, keep in mind that you can only purchase two Lightning Lane Single Passes per ticket, per day. You Can Use a Multi Pass at a Ride More Than Once This is one that actually hasn’t changed with the new Lightning Lane system! Even with Genie+, you could only use a Lightning Lane once per day at any given attraction. The same is still true with Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Single Pass. Lightning Lane So, if your kiddo really loves Journey Into Imagination with Figment, you can book a Multi Pass for the ride — just once — and then you’ll have to wait in the standby line over and over again each time your kid wants to ride it. But, hey, at least it’s not “it’s a small world…” You Can’t Get the Hang of It This might be the biggest lie of them ALL! Change can be scary — especially when you’re dishing out hundreds or even thousands of dollars on your Disney World trip. But trust us when we say that you can totally get the hang of this! From our experience using the new system, Disney has actually made it much easier for anyone to use — not just people who do this for a living. We’ve got SO many tips, tricks, guides, and more information about the new Lightning Lane system at Disney World, and as we learn more, we’ll keep sharing with you along the way! 17. MAJOR changes are coming to Spirit Airlines! ©Spirit Airlines Spirit Airlines, one of America’s most popular discount airlines, has announced some huge changes to its fare structure that potential passengers need to be aware of. For years, Spirit has relied on “rock bottom” fares that are cheap and allow passengers to purchase additional services like snacks, checked bags, and Wi-Fi a la carte. However, that’s changing. According to the Orlando Sentinel, beginning next month, the airline will “roll out a four-part fare schedule” that will integrate previously a la carte options into various levels of ticket pieces. The new fare structure will be broken down into: Go Big, which will feature an “option focused on the airline’s so-called Big Front Seats, a series of roomier seats that have occupied the front of its Airbus jetliners for several years. Previously, the airline charged for solely booking the seat. Now the proposition will include free Wi-Fi, a checked bag, one piece of onboard luggage, and “unlimited” snacks and drinks including those with alcohol.” Go Comfy, which offers a “standard seat with a vacant middle seat next to it to provide passengers with extra space. The offer includes earlier boarding, a snack, a nonalcoholic beverage, and checked baggage and a carry-on.” Go Savvy tickets will allow customers either a checked bag or a carry-on. Go tickets are essentially Spirit’s original standard bare-bones ticket, where travelers “buy their seat but pay additional fees for checked bags, seat selection, Wi-Fi and snacks.” Booking for the new ticket programs opens on August 16th for flights beginning August 27th. Furthermore, when flights on the new system begin, Spirit will offer a “dedicated, priority check-in line for its Go Big fliers, as well as for the carrier’s Free Spirit Gold members or Free Spirit World Elite Mastercard holders at 20 airports.” Spirit Airlines at Orlando Airport According to Spirit’s CEO and President Ted Christie, “We listened to our Guests and are excited to deliver what they want: choices for an elevated experience and provide unparalleled value.” Henry Harteveldt, a San Francisco-based travel industry analyst and president of Atmosphere Research Group, said Spirit is making these changes in order to compete with larger airlines and bring back customers who’ve eschewed travel in a post-pandemic, inflation-filled economy. Spirit Airlines In a recent regulatory filing, Spirit warned that it expects an adjusted operating loss of between $160 million–$173 million. Revenues are expected to come in at $1.28 billion, a decline from its previous forecast of $1.32 billion to $1.34 billion. ©Spirit Airlines Harteveldt explained, “Spirit is saying, ‘We’ll give the big airlines a taste of their own medicine.’ It will be interesting to see how consumers respond. These changes will convince some travelers who are unhappy with what [bigger] airlines offer.” Could this result in Spirit attracting some new customers with its “Go Comfy” and “Go Big” products? 18. If you were planning to enjoy a construction-free visit to a popular Disney World hotel, we’ve got some bad news. Disney is in the middle of a BIG restaurant refurbishment right now, and it seems like things might be taking longer than anticipated. All-Star Movies We already knew that one of Disney World’s most popular hotels, All-Star Movies Resort, was refurbishing its main restaurant. However, it seems they may need to extend that refurbishment. It might be a good idea to keep an open mind if you’ve got an upcoming trip planned. We recently ventured out to Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort to check out the progress on its latest refurbishment, which has proved to be quite the undertaking. A few weeks back, we told you about a planned refurbishment happening at the hotel’s quick-service restaurant, World Premiere Food Court. World Premiere Food Court This refurbishment resulted in most of the kitchen and food stations being walled off to diners, though most of the seating in the dining room remained open, along with self-service beverage stations and utensils. World Premiere Food Court To place an order at the restaurant, you would need to utilize the mobile order feature in the My Disney Experience app. When your order is ready for pick up, it will be brought out to the tables, and a Cast Member will confirm your order as they hand over your bag. This refurbishment was originally anticipated to last through August 1st; however, we’ve confirmed an important update! Tables for Mobile Order pickup When browsing the Disney World website, we noticed that the verbiage for the closure had been updated to “From July 1st through mid-August, some areas of the World Premiere Food Court will be closed for refurbishment—including the coffee bar and lounge.” So, of course, we set out to investigate! Sure enough, when we arrived, there was still lots of construction, and we even noticed more seating had been made available inside the nearby Reel Fun Arcade. Reel Fun Arcade When we stopped to ask Cast Members working at the restaurant, they confirmed with us that the refurbishment is taking longer than anticipated and that it’s likely we could see the refurbishment extended through fall or even the end of the year. Additional seating inside This certainly is an unexpected change, but sometimes, these updates do take longer than originally planned. The Cast Members also pointed out that since the menu is limited at All-Star Movies during the refurbishment. If you really want something else that’s typically on the menu, you’re a short walk away from the other two All-Star Resorts (Sports and Music), where each of their quick-service restaurants operates on a full menu. 20. If you are disappointed that tickets for Oogie Boogie Bash at Disneyland Resort have already sold out and you are looking for ticket options, we have a BIG warning for you! Oogie Boogie Bash You may be tempted to go online to websites like StubHub where people can resell tickets for events, but doing this could end up in disappointment for all parties involved. Oogie Boogie Bash is a separately ticketed event that happens at Disney California Adventure Park. The event features Trick-or-Treat Trails, Disney character sighting, and Bash-exclusive entertainment. Guests are invited to wear costumes to the event and have a frightfully good time! Oogie Boogie Bash 2023 If you head over to StubHub right now, you will see that you can get event tickets for almost any night of Oogie Boogie Bash at Disney California Adventure Park. Most tickets are selling for way above what they were initially sold for, but even if you are willing to drop the big bucks, DO NOT be tempted by purchasing a ticket from a resale site. Jack and Sally at Oogie Boogie Bash Disney clearly states on their website that “tickets are nonrefundable and may not be resold or transferred for commercial purposes.” According to The Orange County Register, Disneyland Resort does have a process in place to investigate resold tickets that will be voided when appropriate. Oogie Boogie Bash Wristband It can be even worse news for those who are reselling their tickets. MousePlanet wrote that Disney “has demonstrated that they can work with the site to obtain the identity of resellers, void their tickets, and revoke their Magic Key passes where applicable.” Ursula at Oogie Boogie Bash If you still desperately want to attend Oogie Boogie Bash and don’t mind the cost, you can still book Oogie Boogie Bash VIP Tours. These tours can accommodate party sizes up to eight guests and will get you into the party, as well as exclusive access to certain attractions and events. Since tickets for Oogie Boogie Bash are sold out otherwise and purchasing a ticket for a reseller will probably result in a bad time, the VIP Tours could be a potential option. Trick-or-Treating at Oogie Boogie Bash Or, you can also still enjoy Halloween at Disneyland Resort, just without a visit to Oogie Boogie Bash. From August 23rd through October 31st, 2024, Disneyland Resort is still offering lots of Halloween fun during Halloween Time at Disneyland Resort without the need for a ticket to a separate event. You will be able to meet characters in their Halloween best, enjoy special live entertainment, admire pumpkins during the Main Street Pumpkin Festival, a special Halloween nighttime show, and much more. 22. We all love Disney World, right?! Magic Kingdom I mean, who can get over all the magic, the nostalgia, and the snacks? Seriously though, we love going to visit, but when we talk about planning for our next trip, there’s one Disney World rule that can definitely put a wrench into our plans, and it’s one we wish Disney World would finally get rid of. Let’s talk about it! What’s that rule that Disney World has been sticking to that’s really been messing up our plans for the last few years? We’re talking about park pass reservations for Annual Passholders. Let’s dive right in. ©Disney As we said, we’re talking about those park pass reservations we mostly still need to make as Annual Passholders. First off, we get that Disney needs to plan for staffing, product availability, and all the other logistical stuff that makes all the magic happen. But in a post-pandemic world that in some way is still trying to get back to “normal” where we’ve become accustomed to a degree of spontaneity and seamless experiences, park passes feel like that one unnecessary element that everyone just wants to skip. ©Disney From a guest perspective, park passes are just another layer of planning that feels rather tedious. Remember the “good ol’ days” when you could just wake up and decide, “Hey, I feel like hitting up Magic Kingdom today,” and you’d just go? Now, you’ve got to decide which park you’re going to in advance, lock it in, and try not to change your mind last minute. It can feel like Disney is saying, “Oh, you want to be spontaneous? Too bad, so sad.” ©Disney When it comes to the overall planning process, Disney vacations are already a massive undertaking. We’re talking about booking dining reservations days in advance, grabbing all of your ride and dining reservations, and juggling park pass reservations. It can be a lot. And forget about when you’re trying to manage the stress of trying to coordinate park passes for large groups. You might as well start taking up a side hustle of herding cats. ©Disney Also, yes, we recognize that there are Good-to-Go Days where passholders can visit the Disney World theme parks without needing a park pass reservation, but those days are pretty few and far between. It all begs the question, “If you don’t need reservations for some of the days, why would you need them at all?” ©Disney So, Disney, if you’re listening (we really hope you are), how about we rethink the need for park pass reservations? It would be wonderful to get back to the freedom to be spontaneous, to wake up and decide our plans for the day without all the extra stress of wondering if we’ll even get into the park. 23. It seems like the new trend in streaming is bundling. ©Disney We’ve recently learned more about a Disney+, Hulu, and Max bundle that’s available. We’ve also been waiting to get more details about the sports streaming bundle Disney announced earlier this year. The bundle brings together sports content from Fox, ESPN, and Warner Bros. Discovery on one streaming app. Disney has unveiled some information about this new sports streaming service, but now, we know how much it will cost. The new sports streaming service will be called Venu (pronounced like “venue”) and will offer “the most sought-after live sports from the top leagues and teams, together in one place. All in a new app built from the ground up for sports fans.” According to The Wall Street Journal, the sports streaming service will cost $42.99 per month and will include live games from the NFL, NBA, MLB, and Division I college football and basketball. Venu Sports The new service is scheduled to launch this fall and will give subscribers access to 14 live sports channels, including ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, SECN, ACCN, ESPNEWS, ABC, FOX, FS1, FS2, BTN, TNT, TBS, truTV, as well as ESPN+. New subscribers will be locked in at the $42.99 per month price for a year from when they sign up and will be able to cancel at any time. The new service will end up having about 55 percent of U.S. sports rights. ESPN feature at CES 2024 However, the new streaming service still faces some legal challenges. It still requires regulatory approval before it can launch. At the moment, some in the industry are suggesting that the new service violates federal law, and Fubo TV has gone so far as to sue Disney, Fox, and Warner Bros. Discovery with a complaint that the new service is complete market suppression. ©Fubo If the streaming service does manage to get over its legal hurdles, though, it will be the first of its kind. We’ll be keeping an eye on the situation and will keep you updated, so stay tuned to DFB for more. 24. Hurricane season can make a pretty big impact on your Disney World trip, and experts have predicted that the 2024 hurricane season is going to be worse than previous years, with a “potentially explosive” series of storms. Rainy day in Magic Kingdom We’ve been tracking the latest disturbance in the Atlantic which is slowly making its way through the Caribbean and toward Florida, causing a state of emergency declaration in the Sunshine State. Here are the latest updates. STORM UPDATES A Step-by-Step Guide to Hurricane Cancelation Policies and Refunds in Disney World How to Handle the Worst-Case Scenario During Hurricane Season at Disney World The BEST Hurricane-Ready Hotels in Disney World 6 Items You Need For a Hurricane in Disney World Join the DFB Newsletter to Get All the Latest Disney News Delivered Right to Your Inbox! Click Here to Subscribe The latest updates from the National Hurricane Center show storm 97L potentially strengthening as it passes over Cuba and further into the Gulf of Mexico. ©National Hurricane Center While still a tropical wave, the storm is producing showers and thunderstorms over eaters Cuba, Hispañola, and much of the rest of the Caribbean. The 8AM update indicates the wave will move over Cuba throughout the day on Friday and will emerge over the Straits of Florida late tonight or Saturday. A tropical depression is likely to form this weekend, with tropical storm watches potentially going into effect today in Florida. Heavy rains may cause flash flooding across Florida, Cuba, and the Bahamas through the weekend. Right now, the formation chance over 48 hours is medium at 60%, while the chance of formation over the next seven days is high at 90%. Brian Shields, a meteorologist with WFTV, predicts the storm will strengthen into Tropical Storm Debby in the Gulf on Saturday. Florida’s governor has issued a state of emergency for much of the Florida peninsula, including the counties of Orange and Osceola, where Disney World is located. The state of emergency activates the state’s emergency management system to help mitigate storm damage and to issue evacuation orders if needed. The emergency order says the storm could cause flooding, and power outages, and affect critical infrastructure in the state including roads and bridges. Rainy day If you’re planning a trip to Disney World in the next seven days, you might want to keep your eyes on the weather. A severe storm could cause flight cancelations, ride closures, and transportation delays. If a hurricane develops, Disney may need to close its parks. That said, the system is still in the early stages of formation, so things could change at any time. Rainy Day at Animal Kingdom Here’s how to handle the worst-case scenario at Disney World during hurricane season. And if you’re headed there over the next few days, you’ll want to be sure to pack some rainy-day gear. We will continue to monitor this storm for updates.
