Disney World just looooooves to change things up on us and the latest victim is the skip-the-line service. Cinderella Castle What once was FastPass, FastPass+, and Genie+, is now Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Single Pass. But, before these recent changes rolled out, Disney introduced surge pricing to what was Genie+ at the time. Depending on the date of your visit, you may find yourself paying more or less to skip the line based on demand. Or, at least, that’s how it’s supposed to work! BIG changes just hit Disney World. Disney Genie+ is now Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Individual Lightning Lanes are now Lightning Lane Single Pass. In addition to these changes, as Disney shares, guests can now: Make Lightning Lane plans before you’re in the parks, “for added confidence:” Choose experiences and times prior to purchasing, so you know exactly what you’re getting with your purchase; Book Lightning Lane passes for multiple vacation days, all at once, if you wish! What seemingly hasn’t changed, though, is Disney’s “surge pricing” for the service. But, is it really surge pricing? Goodbye Genie+ A bit of background: What is now Lightning Lane Multi Pass was previously known as Disney Genie+. When Disney Genie+ was initially introduced in Disney World, the price to purchase Disney Genie+ was set at $15.00 per ticket, per day. In October 2022, however, surge pricing (you may see the term “variable pricing” on the Disney World website) was introduced to the standard base-price Disney Genie+ service. Lightning Lanes in Walt Disney World Essentially, Disney says that the cost of the Lightning Lane Multi Pass service will VARY depending on the date you’ll be visiting, along with noting that prices for the service may be lower on less busy days and higher on peak periods (like around holidays such as Thanksgiving and Christmas). But, from what we’ve noticed, this isn’t necessarily always the case. ©Disney For example, on July 21st, Lightning Lane Multi Pass for Magic Kingdom (which was technically Genie+ at the time) was priced at $27, but one of the most popular rides in all of Magic Kingdom — Seven Dwarfs Mine Train — only had an average 50-minute wait all day, which is quite out of the norm for this attraction. It doesn’t seem as though the price always reflects the crowd level. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train This likely happens because Disney prices Lightning Lanes out ahead of time, using past attendance calendars and records to try and determine what sort of demand the service might have on any given day. But, as we tend to say over and over again — Disney World is unpredictable. No two days are alike — even some holidays we’ve expected to see big crowds this year have ended up surprising us. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train At the end of the day, while Disney World’s Lightning Lane surge pricing isn’t technically a lie, it may not always reflect the actual crowd levels on the date you’re visiting. A tropical storm system projected to strengthen and move up the Gulf of Mexico could bring severe weather to Disney World. This tropical wave is expected to develop over the weekend. Florida’s governor has issued a state of emergency for much of the Florida peninsula, including the counties of Orange and Osceola, where Disney World is located. The state of emergency activates the state’s emergency management system to help mitigate storm damage and to issue evacuation orders, if needed. Governor Ron DeSantis’ emergency order says the storm could cause flooding, power outages, and affect critical infrastructure in the state including roads and bridges. The National Hurricane Center’s latest models for this storm predict that it could move very slowly and bring heavy rainfall to the state for several days, starting this weekend and lasting into early next week. We know these storms can be extremely stressful if you have a vacation to Disney World planned. They are unpredictable, and it’s hard to decide if you should make the trip or not. Here’s a step-by-step guide to hurricane cancellation policies and refunds in Disney World. Rain on Main Street during Hurricane Idalia in 2023 Here’s how to handle the worst-case scenario at Disney World during hurricane season. And if you’re headed there over the next few days, you’ll want to be sure to pack some rainy-day gear. We have had some really fun trips to Disney World during stormy weather — seriously! Crowds are usually down and lines are short, the resorts will bring out special activities to add to the fun when you can’t be outside, and it can be a trip you will always remember. Watch AJ’s video below for lots more on being in Disney World during a storm. Keep following DFB for the latest on this tropical storm system and how it could affect your Disney World trip. A new chapter of Lorcana is coming online and will be available in hobby stores soon! Lorcana: Shimmering Skies We’ve been bringing you coverage of the latest chapters of Lorcana, and it’s time for the newest edition! On August 9th, you’ll be able to find the new chapter at hobby stores and soon after, on August 23rd, you’ll be able to purchase the cards on Amazon, Disney Store, and many other locations. We grabbed a set ahead of their release to bring you all the new info on these new cards before they hit shelves, so buckle up, because we’re taking you through the story of Lorcana! What is Lorcana? Since August 2023, Disney and Ravensburger have released four collections of this trading card game — The First Chapter, Rise of the Floodborn, a Disney100 collection, Into the Inklands, and Ursula’s Return. Now, another chapter is on the horizon — Shimmering Skies! The game combines the thrill of strategy with the whimsy of Disney storytelling. Into the Inklands ©Disney The story goes that players are “Illumineers” who have landed in a new realm, Lorcana. You must go on quests to search and find the “lore” that was spread out during Rise of the Floodborn when a flood of mixed ink was accidentally unleashed. Your goal in the game is to collect 20 lore (points) before the other players. Your quest to gain lore and challenge your opponents to slow them down. ©Disney Put simply, the game is a race to get 20 points by using the actions, songs, and characters that are on each card. You can challenge your opponent and eliminate (banish) their cards that are in play to limit their opportunities to gain points. It’s a game of strategy with a bit of luck of the draw. ‘Shimmering Skies’ After all the challenges, journeys, and adventures of our favorite characters, they’ve gathered at the Great Illuminary to celebrate! But in the middle of the party, something new arises in the sky. That is where we begin the story of Lorcana: Shimmering Skies. ©Disney This new chapter introduces two new starter sets with new characters, actions, foil cards, and locations. The first new pack in the Amethyst and Ruby starter set that features Elsa and Wreck-It Ralph (who is new to the game!). Elsa and Wreck-It Ralph You’ll find Elsa and Wreck-It Ralph foil cards in this set. Both of these cards will bring you much-needed help with your strategy. Elsa and Wreck-It Ralph foil cards What’s really exciting are all the new Wreck-It Ralph characters that are included in the new deck! You’ll be able to play with Vanellope and her racing friends. The racers vary in their strength and abilities, but each will serve a purpose in your game. Let’s get racing! Since Into the Inklands, we’ve seen location cards come into play with new ones introduced in each consecutive chapter. In the Amethyst and Ruby deck, you’ll get to play in The Library. If your character is banished while in the library, you may draw a card. This is an awesome advantage for a location card! The Library A new action that I am particularly fond of is the Glimmer vs. Glimmer card! Glimmer vs. Glimmer The second starter deck in Shimmering Skies is Emerald and Steel featuring Kronk and Scar. In a way, these two new decks are pairing up Heroes vs. Villains! While not all the characters in the Emerald and Steel deck are Villains, many are and the new Glimmer vs. Glimmer action in the Amethyst and Ruby deck continues the theme. Scar and Kronk In this set, you’ll get foil Scar and Kronk cards. While Kronk can’t be used as ink, his is certainly as strong as he looks with a strength and willpower of 6 each. Scar and Kronk foil cards You’ll also find new characters such as Yzma and new actions like Night Howler Rage in this deck. New characters and actions The new location in the Steel and Emerald deck is The Rainforest! The ability associated with this new location is interesting — “Opposing damaged characters gain Reckless.” This means that your opponent’s damaged characters will not be able to quest, and they must challenge if they are able. The Rainforest This new chapter brings some interesting twists and turns! If you want to find out more, you’ll need to be sure to grab it as soon as it comes out on August 9th and August 23rd online. Game Play To play the game, you need your own deck of 60 cards. You can use one of the starter decks or mix-and-match cards from any of the different chapters. If you’re going for strategy, you can design a stacked deck of masterful items, characters, locations, actions, and songs. You do not need The First Chapter, Rise of the Floodborn, Into the Inklands, or Ursula’s Return to play the game; the new Shimmering Skies cards can work independently. You can also get booster packs that give you an additional 12 cards to help you customize your deck! New booster packs will be available for Shimmering Skies. ©Disney 10 Steps for Playing Lorcana Setting Up Determine the first player by flipping a coin, rolling a die, or so on. Shuffle your deck. You can only have 60 cards in your deck. Set your lore tracker to 0. Draw 7 cards for your starting hand. You can look at the cards in your hand, but not anyone else’s hand! Alter your starting hand if you choose. Beginning Phase of a Turn Ready — Ready your exerted cards by turning them upright. (Exerted cards were used the previous turn which means they end up sideways.) Set — Check for effects that happen at the start of your turn and follow their instructions. Draw — Draw a card from the top of your deck. The first player skips this step on their first turn. Main Phase of a Turn Once per turn, you can put a card facedown into your inkwell at any time. (Your inkwell is basically like your bank and ink is the currency.) You can take any actions listed below, any number of times, in any order you want. This allows you to take full advantage of what your cards do in combination with other effects. Play a card. You must pay a certain amount of ink for your character to be played, but you have to wait for the “ink to dry” (your next turn) before you can use their abilities (unless the card specifies differently.) Use a character ability that doesn’t require them to exert. (Exert means turn sideways and be in position to be attacked by opponents.) Use an item ability. Use a location ability. Quest Challenge an opponent’s location or exerted character. Use an ability that requires them to exert. There are detailed instructions for these steps in the quick start rules book that you get with a starter deck. Game Play We can’t wait for you all to get your hands on this new chapter! Overall, the game of Lorcana is a lot of fun for 2 or more players. We recommend giving it a try! For more Disney news, keep following DFB! Since Disney World replaced Genie+ with Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass, we’ve been busy testing the entire new system out. Lighting Lane We’ve tried it while park hopping. We’ve discovered some of the best tricks for the new system. We’ve tried it in every park and we’ve used it for advance planning as both Disney World hotel guests and not. Now that we’ve put the new system through its paces, we’re going to say this: it’s so much easier to use than you think. Yes, really! We think this is a huge improvement over Genie+! So if you’ve been a little worried about using the new Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Single Pass, we’re here to tell you that we think you’re going to like it better. Here’s why it’s easier. Virtual Queue and Lightning Lane Single Pass One of the things we tested out was having a virtual queue boarding group callback at the same time that we had a Lightning Lane Single Pass time. So we decided to test out if we could actually ride the same ride twice in a row, once with the virtual queue and another time with the Single Pass. And we did! ©Disney We grabbed both a virtual queue and a Lightning Lane Single Pass for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and managed to ride it twice in a row (it took us about an hour to ride it twice like this). Now, there’s no guarantee that your virtual queue and Lightning Lane Single Pass times might line up just so, but if they do, it’s a nice way to enjoy a popular ride two times in a row. This EPCOT Lightning Lane Hack Feels Illegal (But It Isn’t!) It’s more user-friendly Our biggest complaint about Genie+ was about its user interface, which we felt was AWFUL. You had to do a lot of clicking just to find what you needed and it all just felt so clunky. Disney fixed that with the new system, meaning there are far fewer steps you need to make to purchase Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass, as well as make your ride selections. ©Disney This makes the experience with the new Lightning Lane system in the My Disney Experience app with the new system SO much easier. Breaking Down Disney World’s NEW Lightning Lane System in Under 1,000 Words Park hopping is easier One thing that surprised us was how easy it was to park hop while using Lightning Lane Multi Pass. For example, one of our reporters just bought the Multi Pass for Animal Kingdom and scanned into their first ride. Then they were allowed to book a Lightning Lane in another park, like Magic Kingdom, although that park’s Lightning Lane Multi Pass price was higher (and we weren’t charged extra over the initial price we paid for the less expensive park). Park hopping is even easier Note that you still need to have a ticket with the park hopper option if you’ll be using the new Lightning Lane system to park hop. Also, you cannot make selections in multiple parks when you make your advance selections. This only applies once you’ve actually scanned into your first ride at your first park. Disney Just Simplified Park Hopping with Its NEW Lightning Lane System It’s almost TOO easy to modify selections It wasn’t always easy to change your selections with Genie+, but it’s SO easy to do with Lightning Lane Multi Pass. In fact, it’s almost TOO easy. We spoke with Cast Members who told us some people were just modifying selections because it was so easy and then regretting it (they were probably just seeing if they could and ended up modifying thinking there would be more to the process, we guess). ©Disney Considering how complicated Genie+ was, this is a refreshing and much-needed change. So pro tip: if you’re in the app and playing around with modifying your selections, make sure you really DO want to modify those. The Biggest Lightning Lane Mistake Rookies Will Definitely Make In Disney World Once you use your first selection, you can book any tier Lightning Lane Multi Pass uses a tier system for rides for advance booking. Guests can book just one tier 1 ride plus two tier 2 rides or three tier 2 rides before their trip. However, this is JUST for advance booking. Once you use your first Lightning Lane, you can book a ride from either tier, even if the first one you used was a tier 2 ride and not a tier 1 ride. Runaway Railway Lightning Lane We tested this out, and we knocked out almost all the tier 1 rides in Disney’s Hollywood Studio before the middle of the day. Everyone IGNORES This Disney World App Feature, but It’s a Lightning Lane GAME CHANGER You may spend less time waiting One thing we noticed quickly is that we don’t have to wait around so much between Lightning Lane selections. With Genie+, we sometimes felt like we had a lot of time between our Lightning Lane times — TOO much time. Well, Lightning Lane Multi Pass seems to have options that are closer together. Peter Pan’s Flight Lightning Lane In other words, you can knock out a lot more rides a lot faster and not feel like you’re wasting time between rides. Note: this did vary by park and by reporter’s luck, but we found this to be the case when we tested this out on July 31st. Can Disney World Dining Reservations Overlap With Lightning Lanes? We Found Out! If you’re a hotel guest, you get even more of a bonus Because we tried Lightning Lane Multi Pass both as a Disney World hotel guest (which allowed us to book Lightning Lanes seven days in advance) and as a non-hotel guest (which only allowed us to book three days in advance), we determined that because you can book that first tier 1 ride ahead of time, you can then knock out a ton of the other tier 1 rides faster, so you can park hop. Disney’s Pop Century Resort This could be a big game changer in convincing more people to stay in Disney World hotels as opposed to not. Lightning Lane Rules Have CHANGED…But There’s Already a Problem in Disney World As much as we’ve used the new Lightning Lane system, we’re here to tell you that it’s an improvement over the Genie+ system. Now, is it as good as FastPass+? Well, it’s very similar, except it’s no longer free. However, you can make all your selections on your phone through the app, so the convenience is nice. Stay tuned to DFB for more. We Found a Trick To Get the BEST Lightning Lane Reservations in Disney World Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! Are you ready for the spooky season? The Disney Parks are gearing up for a long Halloween celebration and Disney just teased NEW villains coming to one park in particular! Disney California Adventure during Oogie Boogie Bash Disney’s Oogie Boogie Bash at Disney California Adventure is one of our favorite Halloween events each year. The Disneyland Resort’s separately ticketed Halloween party is super popular and this year’s party is already sold out for the season. If you were lucky enough to snag tickets, you can expect to see and experience all kinds of exclusives such as live entertainment, special food, limited merch, trick-or-treating opportunities, character meet-and-greets, and more! Rare Disney Villains also like to appear at this party and Disney just teased some new additions that will be featured in this year’s Halloween celebration! In an Instagram video, Disney Parks and Disneyland wrote, “What’s behind the cart? Let the frightfully fun guessing begin! Can you guess which two villains are joining this year’s Immersive Treat Trails at #OogieBoogieBash – A Disney Halloween Party?” Oogie Boogie Bash While we have some serious questions about the cart (and who’s pushing it), we’re immediately drawn to the Greek vase. Designed in a similar art style of Disney’s Hercules, the vase transitions to the next scene through flames. The obvious suggestion is that Hades will be crashing this year’s party. Maybe we’ll see some more Hercules-themed goodies as well! ©Disney The second major villain teased might just become the talk of the Bash! Upon closer look, we can see a control panel, a white lab coat, and what looks like the shadow of a fedora hat behind the panel. If our eyes serve us correctly, we can safely infer the fedora belongs to Perry the Platypus, otherwise known as Agent P! Agent P’s biggest nemesis is Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz from Disney Channel’s Phineas and Ferb, and the white lab coat and control device certainly lend credence to that suggestion. All that’s missing from the video is Dr. Doofenshmirtz’s famous “Curse you, Perry the Platypus!” catchphrase! ©Disney You’ll find lots of villains at the Bash such as Agatha Harkness, the Headless Horseman, the Sanderson Sisters, Captain Hook, Ursula, Jafar, Mother Gothel, and more. Disney tends to bring us new faces each year and it looks like at least these two could possibly join this dastardly roster! Mother Gothel This year’s Oogie Bash Bash will be held at Disney California on 27 select nights between August 25th through October 31st, 2024. We’ll keep you posted on more Oogie Boogie Bash and Disneyland updates so stay tuned right here for all the latest! We Hope You Got Your Tickets Because Disney’s Oogie Boogie Bash Is SOLD OUT! Layoffs have hit Disney once again. ©Disney On Wednesday, July 31st, Disney announced a massive round of layoffs. The cuts will affect roughly 140 employees – – or 2% of the company’s workforce – – across the television division according to Variety. The cuts will cut across almost all corners of the company’s television operations including local stations, the Freeform cable network, and general marketing and publicity departments. However, the largest cuts were reserved for National Geographic. The iconic nature magazine-turned-content brand was acquired by Disney as part of their 20th Century Fox purchase in 2019. NatGeo saw 13% of its staff — 60 employees — let go. ©NatGeo The cuts come just months after Disney CEO Bob Iger shared that the company planned to radically change how they spend for television. After years of investing heavily, in Iger’s words “too much” in streaming programming, the company announced that they would be “dramatically” reducing spending on content, particularly that which was aimed at traditional networks. In addition, the company announced they would be “aggregating greater audience and amortizing costs” but putting recently premiered episodes of network shows on streaming services like Hulu quicker than they had in the past. At the time, Iger said the strategy was working, and drawing in “unduplicated audiences.” ©Hulu Despite these changes, however, the television division isn’t the only corner of Disney to be hit by layoffs as part of the company’s $7.5 billion cost reduction plan. In May, 175 Pixar employees (approximately 14% of the division’s workforce) were let go as part of these strategies. The Pixar cuts in particular were due to mandates to “to scale back on direct-to-consumer series in favor of feature films.” All of these 2024 cuts come on top of the 2023 cuts, which saw Disney let go of almost 4% of its global workforce as a cost-cutting measure. ©Disney Unfortunately, Disney is far from the only media and tech company to engage in mass layoffs in 2024. The BBC, Fox Entertainment, Warner Brothers Discovery, CNN, Deadspin, Electronic Arts, Vice, Buzzfeed, Paramount, Sirius, YouTube, Pitchfork, Universal Music Group, NBC News, Audible, Google, and Amazon among others have all let go of scores of employees over the first half of 2024. ©Disney Disney’s latest round of layoffs has hit the company’s television division hard, with 140 employees losing their jobs. We here at DFB wish those affected by these layoffs the best. Stay tuned for further coverage of Disney’s ongoing business dealings. Disney World is always changing, and that’s part of the fun in visiting often. Japan Pavilion at EPCOT Just this year, we’ve seen the opening of a brand new ride, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, as well as the reopening of a classic attraction, Country Bear Jamboree, which got a new show. Test Track in EPCOT is currently closed to be reimagined. However, it’s not just rides that are changing in Disney World — the food is always changing, too, and one Disney World restaurant just announced it will be debuting a new menu. If you visit the Japan pavilion at EPCOT, you can dine at Takumi-Tei, the pavilion’s signature dining spot. This beautiful restaurant, which has an interior inspired by the natural elements, features a prix-fixe menu of two omakase multi-course meals: an omnivorous meal for $250 per person and a plant-based meal for $150 per person. You can also choose a wine pairing with your meal for an additional price. Asparagus Roll at Takumi-Tei The restaurant recently announced that was undergoing a “significant transformation.” The Japanese chef at Takumi-Tei has “meticulously redesigned all our courses.” Omnivorous is now Kiku, with plates that include Sushimi, Soups, a Wagyu Beef Roll, a selection of desserts, and more. ©Disney The plant-based menu is now Hasu and includes plates like flesh yuba and pickled daikon, bamboo shoot tempura, nigiri sushi, plant-based desserts, and more. Note that it now seems that the plant-based menu is also $250 per person. ©Disney The restaurant has also updated its children’s menu, Himawari. The children’s menu includes fresh yuba, baked flounder, various desserts, and more. ©Disney These menu effects have gone into effect as of today, August 1st, so if you have an advance dining reservation at Takumi-Tei, you may want to check the new menu items to make sure the new menu is still suitable for you and your party. We’ll keep an eye out for other menu changes in Disney World, so stay tuned to DFB for more. If you’re someone who drives to Disney World, then you know just how important getting cheap gas can make all the difference in your budget! Welcome to Disney World! With gas prices hitting record highs in Florida earlier this year, it’s no wonder you might be looking to save a few cents at the pump. At the end of the day, sometimes driving can be just as expensive as flying — but not with this limited-time deal on cheap gas! We’ve got good news for Orlando residents and folks driving to Disney World today! Per Fox 35 Orlando, select Circle K locations across Orlando are offering up to 40 cents off per gallon on Thursday, August 1st. Between 4PM and 7PM, the Circle K Fuel Day Pop-Up is offering a discount on gas at over 3,000 gas stations across the United States. Gas prices have jumped “We are proud to once again offer up some great fuel savings to help customers squeeze every last drop out of the summer season before shifting into ‘back-to-school’ mode,” shared Senior Vice President of Operations in the Eastern U.S. Brian Bednarz. He continued, “Our Fuel Day Pop-Up is a way for us to thank our customers for their loyalty as they fuel their summer journeys. And while they enjoy the savings at the pump, they can also cool down with a great deal in the store, with any size Polar Pop and Froster for 79 cents as part of our summer-long ‘America’s Thirst Stop’ promotion.” ©Spectrum News This is likely welcome news for many, as back in April, gas prices reached $3.62 across the state. This was 11 cents more per gallon than Florida gas pumps saw this time last year. The springtime high for 2023, however, was $3.72. Gas Station in Hollywood Studios Prices seem to have lowered since then, though, with AAA reporting a $3.36/gallon average over the past month. As of August 1st, Florida gas prices are lower than the national average of $3.48 per gallon. Hopefully, you can take advantage of some major savings on gas today at Circle K! And, if you’ll be driving to Disney World soon, you might want to consider budgeting some extra dough for gas — you never know when those prices might creep back up! Drive safely! Don’t forget that once you arrive at Disney World, you can drive yourself around or opt to take Disney’s free transportation services. Are you planning a Disney World trip? If so, you’re probably getting a lot of advice from family, friends, and co-workers who have been there about things you ABSOLUTELY must-do. The Beast at Be Our Guest Restaurant That means you’re probably getting some dining recommendations, too, and yes, we bet that these are recommendations for the popular dining spots, those that EVERYONE talks about ALL the time. However, we’re going to tell you that just because a dining spot is popular does not mean that it’s the best. Now, we’ve eaten at every single restaurant in Disney World, and we’re going to tell you which reservations you should book instead. So here are those super popular dining spots in Disney World that everyone thinks they want to go to, but the truth is, there is a better alternative (don’t worry — we’re going to tell you all about it!). Cinderella’s Royal Table You want to dine in a castle? Okay, we get it. You want to meet princesses and have a good meal? We get that, too. So the first place that comes to mind for that is Cinderella’s Royal Table in Magic Kingdom. Did you know that you can get the same experience, though, in EPCOT at Akershus Royal Banquet Hall? Belle at Akershus Royal Banquet Hall Akershus Royal Banquet Hall looks just like a castle on the inside. It also had a lot of princesses (and honestly, we feel you get more time with them here). So you’re getting everything you’d get at Cinderella’s Royal Table…but get this – it costs LESS. Same experience, less money. It’s a win-win! This EPCOT Princess Breakfast Is CHEAPER and EASIER Than Cinderella’s Royal Table (And It Has Cheesy Potatoes) Chef Mickey’s or Topolino’s Terrace Speaking of character breakfasts, if you want to meet classic characters, you might immediately think of places like Chef Mickey’s at Disney’s Contemporary Resort or Topolino’s Terrace at Disney’s Riviera Resort first. We’re just going to say we’re not always impressed with the food at Chef Mickey’s, though, and both spots can be hard to get dining reservations for. However, we’re sharing one of our secret favorite character breakfast spots with you: Cape May Cafe at Disney’s Beach Club Resort. Minnie at Cape May Cafe Cape May Cafe has four of the fab five for breakfast: Minnie, Donald, Daisy, and Goofy (all dressed in their beach gear), and they will spend a LOT of time interacting with every table. The buffet is also good (there are crepes AND a taco bar!) and we like the sticky buns and sauce they serve at the table. It’s also a super easy reservation to get because it just seems that a lot of folks don’t know about it. Shh!!! Don’t ruin our secret (okay, we kid — we’re sharing it with you for a reason). REVIEW: This Disney World Breakfast Has a TACO BAR and We’re Still Not Over It Hollywood & Vine Hollywood & Vine in Disney’s Hollywood Studios is…well, it’s okay. You can meet some great characters, and the food is …well, like we said, OKAY. However, we would MUCH rather go to Tusker House in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. You get most of the same characters (dressed in little safari outfits, though!), and the food is solidly GOOD. Meet Mickey at Tusker House We especially love Tusker House for lunch and dinner because you’ll get some African-inspired dishes on the buffet, but there are still “safe” choices for picky eaters. Plus you also get all the Jungle Juice (aka POG juice) you can drink, and for that alone, it’s one of our favorite character dining experiences. Disney Food Blog REVIEW: Buffets Are BACK at Tusker House in Disney’s Animal Kingdom Nine Dragons If you’re craving Asian food, you might be inclined to book a meal at Nine Dragons in EPCOT’s China Pavilion. But if you want some GREAT Asian food, you might want to head on over to Disney Springs instead and eat at Morimoto Asia. Why? Well, for starters, it’s owned by Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto. But the food is also STELLAR and way better than what you’re going to find in EPCOT. Morimoto Asia We’ll also go ahead and recommend the sushi here, too, because it’s OUT OF THIS WORLD, but we’ve honestly never had a bad meal at Morimoto. This NEW Disney World Meal Is PERFECT If You’re Really, REALLY Hungry San Angel Inn Now don’t get us wrong, we do like sitting down inside the Mexico Pavilion at EPCOT at San Angel Inn and enjoying a meal, but you can get something similar at La Hacienda de San Angel for a fraction of the cost. You’ll get authentic Mexican flavors here, just like you would at San Angel Inn. Also, the margaritas SLAP. Tacos with rice and beans at La Hacienda de San Angel Whereas you get a faux view at San Angel Inn, though (and it is nice, we have to admit), you can enjoy a meal at La Hacienda de San Angel while looking out over World Showcase Lagoon because of the restaurant’s floor-to-ceiling windows. REVIEW: Queso, Tacos, and Amazing Service? Our REVIEW of La Hacienda de San Angel in EPCOT Be Our Guest We used to be bigger fans of Be Our Guest when you could still get a quick service lunch here, but that went away in 2020 and now you’re forced into a prix fixe menu that is fairly pricey and not always consistently good. Yes, the atmosphere here is nice, but we think Skipper Canteen has a way more fun atmosphere, as well as better food. Like we would ever turn down Cheese Bread at Skipper Canteen (hint: it’s on the secret menu) Disney nerds will LOVE Skipper Canteen not just for its Jungle Cruise theme, but also for the Easter eggs spread throughout the restaurant, including clues about the Society of Explorers and Adventurers (S.E.A.). The food here is also AMAZING, although we will warn you that some of the menu items are for more adventurous diners. But y’all — it’s totally worth a visit. REVIEW: Yep. This Magic Kingdom Restaurant Is Still UNDERRATED Le Cellier Steakhouse We will never turn down the Cheddar Cheese Soup here, but this EPCOT restaurant in the Canada Pavilion is mostly billed as a steakhouse. However, it’s pricey, reservations can be hard to get, and there are better steakhouses in Disney World. For example, if it’s steak we’re craving, we’re going to get a reservation at Yachtsman Steakhouse (which is easier to get). 8-oz Filet Mignon at Yachtsman Steakhouse For the record, you can get a great steak here, but you also need to order the French Onion Soup, which may be even cheesier than the soup at Le Cellier. REVIEW: Is The CHEESIEST Soup in Disney World Hiding at This Forgotten Restaurant? So before you make those dining reservations in Disney World, reconsider those more popular restaurants and consider these recommendations. You might just find your new favorite dining spot in Disney World. Stay tuned to DFB for more. Florida is no stranger to severe weather. This state has endured torrential downpours, tropical storms, and even hurricanes, and the 2024 hurricane season is proving to be a busy one. In fact, experts predicted that the 2024 hurricane season will be worse than previous years, calling this a “potentially explosive” weather period. Rainy Day at Animal Kingdom Hurricane season runs from the beginning of June through the end of November, putting us right in the middle of it as we enter August. Forecasters predicted 20 to 25 named storms, with between eight and 12 of those strengthening into hurricanes. Now, as families prepare to go back to school and fall creeps its way closer, we have another potential storm on the horizon. Additionally, the National Hurricane Center warned that a “well-defined tropical wave is producing a large area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms.” Experts currently have the formation chance through the next 48 hours at 20%, but the chance through seven days increases to 60%. We will continue to monitor the reports over the next few days. ©National Hurricane Center If you’re planning a trip to Disney World in the next seven days, you might want to keep your eyes on the weather. A severe storm could cause flight cancelations, ride closures, and transportation delays. If a hurricane develops, Disney may need to close its parks. That said, the system is still in the early stages of formation, so things could change at any time. We will continue to monitor this storm for updates. In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest travel news, so stay tuned for more. The other day, we were in EPCOT testing out all the new Lighting Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass changes that Disney had just introduced. We were booking Lightning Lanes and riding rides all day long. But of course, we couldn’t miss out on a chance to grab a Virtual Queue boarding pass for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. (Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is available as a free Virtual Queue or with a paid Lightning Lane Single Pass.) Cosmic Rewind entrance Everything You Need to Know About Lightning Lanes in Disney World When our boarding group was officially called, we checked our notification for our arrival window. Typically, the app will show you a timeline that you can show up during to get into the line to ride the ride. But something weird showed up on our notification — we were told we could arrive at any time that day! ©Disney This was the first time we had ever seen that show up, and we were shocked! But it did get us thinking — maybe it’s time for the Virtual Queue at Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind to go away. Here’s the thing, even though we’ve never gotten this message before, we have been told by Cast Members that as long as we’re not early, it doesn’t really matter when we show up for our Virtual Queue. Many of our readers have also shared that they have been told the same thing! Cosmic Rewind Plus, when you do show up to enter the ride, you’re not likely to go straight to boarding. There is generally a wait inside the building after you’ve shown up for your boarding group. If they don’t care when we show up to ride, then we’re wondering what the point of having the Virtual Queue anymore is. Over at TRON Lightcycle / Run in Magic Kingdom, the Cast Members are typically very strict about when you show up for your Virtual Queue, but that is not the case at Cosmic Rewind. So why are they still using the system if it doesn’t really matter when we get in line? Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Adventureswith_jerry on Instagram commented and brought up the point that since you can only have one Virtual Queue per day per ride, you are limited to only riding that ride once without paying for the Lightning Lane Single Pass. Now that Guardians of the Galaxy has been around for over two years, and they don’t seem to need to stagger riders anymore, is there a purpose to the boarding groups for this ride? Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Perhaps the message we received was a glitch or due to the system changes on the big Lightning Lane release day, but regardless, it seems that this ride does not care so much when you arrive. Because of that, it may be time that Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind got rid of its Virtual Queue and went to a normal stand-by line. We’ll have to wait and see what Disney decides to do going forward! For more Disney news, keep following DFB! Calling all Marvel fans: The Disney Destiny, Disney Cruise Line’s new ship that will set sail in November 2025, will feature new ways to interact with the Marvel Universe that you won’t find anywhere else on land or at sea …. or even across the multiverse! Our new heroes and villains-themed cruise ship will debut brand-new spaces and experiences celebrating Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Iron Man and the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Here’s a first look at five of the can’t-miss Marvel-inspired spaces coming to the Disney Destiny! 1. New Character Takes Center Stage in The Grand Hall The striking Grand Hall will be inspired by the rich lore, distinctive iconography and vibrant palette of Marvel Studios’ “Black Panther” films. This space will be the first thing you see as you step aboard the Disney Destiny, welcoming you to a world of epic dualities: heroes and villains, and adventure and relaxation. The Walt Disney Imagineering design team consulted with the costume team from the “Black Panther” movies, and those insights helped fashion the creative vision for this space, including metalwork on the pilars inspired by the banded armor and stacked jewelry found in Wakanda. A breathtaking light fixture inspired by Vibranium — the rare metallic ore found in the fictional nation — will generate show-stopping effects that fill the room with life and color. Presiding over the Grand Hall will be a stunning statue of T’Challa, the Black Panther: King of Wakanda, devoted son and beloved brother sworn to protect his kingdom — and the Disney Destiny. 2. The Sanctum The Sanctum will be Disney Cruise Line’s first lounge inspired by the powerful sorcerers and mystical artifacts of Marvel Studios’ “Doctor Strange.” Like all Sanctums, this centrally located venue will contain mystical items designed to aid sorcerers in protecting the world – but it will also be home to entertainment; a magical array or cocktails, spirits and coffees; and unique surprises from Doctor Strange’s New York Sanctum, including a circular mirror behind the bar that evokes the building’s iconic window. 3. Spider-Man Stern Character For the first time in Disney Cruise Line history, a Marvel Super Hero will be the signature stern character on the Disney Destiny. This signature larger-than-life sculpture will showcase Spider-Man and his Spider-Bots, who are making a well-meant, if a bit haphazard, attempt at decorating the filigree on the back of the ship with their infamous spider webs. 4. Destiny Tower Suite (Tony Stark would approve!) The Destiny Tower Suite will be a Marvel-inspired penthouse honoring Iron Man’s mighty legacy with a luxurious take on the sleek, industrial designs of Tony Stark. Armor-like materials and mechanical elements will be balanced by soft, inviting finishes to create an opulent experience exclusive to the Disney Destiny. Set high in the ship’s forward funnel, this one-of-a-kind suite will offer incredible views of the top deck and beyond through an expansive two-story window. With nearly 2,000 square feet of living space, the Destiny Tower Suite will comfortably sleep eight guests and feature designated areas for eating, sleeping and playing, as well as other perks like a full kitchen and private ensuite elevator. 5. Saga Just off the Grand Hall on decks four and five, you will be able to write your own vacation legend at Saga, a central hub for daytime family activities and adult-exclusive evening entertainment. The two-story, state-of-the-art venue will host a variety of interactive shows and events in an elevated environment that also takes cues from the architecture of Wakanda. And because we couldn’t share just five … Bonus! Worlds of Marvel and Marvel Super Hero Academy The Disney Destiny will also feature two guest-favorite experiences from the Disney Wish and Disney Treasure, inspired by the stories and characters of the Marvel Universe. Worlds of Marvel, Disney Cruise Line’s Marvel-themed dining experience, will host you for an out-of-this-world celebration starring the lively duo of Rocket and Groot from the blockbuster Marvel Studios “Guardians of the Galaxy” films. During a tribute to the many Super Heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe who keep the world safe, Groot will take over the proceedings and bring the festivities to the next level like only he can, organizing the ultimate surprise party for his friend Rocket — just in time for your dessert! In Disney’s Oceaneer Club, kids ages 3 to 10 will become the heroes of their own epic Disney adventures at Marvel Super Hero Academy, a high-tech Avengers headquarters where young “recruits” are trained to be the next generation of Super Heroes alongside some of their favorite Avengers. So tell me, True Believers, which of these incredible new spaces are you most excited about as you begin planning your own legendary vacation aboard the Disney Destiny? Bookings for Castaway Club Members open Sept. 6, 2024, and the inaugural season goes on sale to the general public Sept. 12, 2024!
