  1. It’s been a BIG week for Bluey fans! Bluey even appeared in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade The series continues to be popular thanks to the show’s characters, new “minisodes”, merchandise, and more. It was recently announced that a Bluey movie is in the works at Disney+, and it looks like that’s not the only new Bluey content we’ll be getting from Disney! THIS IS NOT A DRILL! Bluey is coming to Disney World, Disneyland, and the Disney Cruise Line! Bluey and Bingo Disney announced that beginning in January 2025, families will be able to interact with Bluey and Bingo on Disney Cruise Line voyages that originate from Australia and New Zealand. There will be special meet-and-greets and an interactive and “clue-filled” game that ends in a dance party. As of now, details on how we’ll be able to meet Bluey and her family at Disney World and Disneyland have yet to be revealed, but Disney said they’ll provide more information “in the months ahead.” @Boardwalk Times The announcement comes as part of a major expansion of Disney’s relationship with BBC Studios for Bluey. The new deal includes the global theatrical rights for the recently announced film, set to premiere in 2027. Following the theatrical release, the movie will stream on Disney+. The movie will also air on ABC iview and ABC Kids in Australia post-theatrical release. ©Bluey.tv Regarding this new endeavor, Josh D’Amaro, Chairman, Disney Experiences said, “Bluey has become a household name for families around the world and we are thrilled to bring her story to life in new ways. We can’t wait to watch our youngest guests and their families make memories with Bluey in our parks and on our cruises.” ©Disney The movie comes off the back of Bluey being the most-watched series on Disney+ globally with more than 50.5 billion minutes watched on the streaming service, according to Disney. We are super excited to see this little cattle dog on the big screen in 2027 and in Disney World, Disneyland, and the Disney Cruise Line next year! ©Disney In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for any updates we can get about the arrival of Bluey and her family at Disney World, Disneyland, and the Disney Cruise Line! 2. The holidays are some of the most wonderful (and stressful) times of the year. Happy Holidays from Magic Kingdom! In Disney World, we like to keep busy with the Festival of the Holidays, Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, and Jollywood Nights for our holiday fun. Fun being the important word here because we are all about removing stress from the holidays, and we have found the perfect way to do it. DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. When it comes to the holidays, we love spending time with family and friends, watching our favorite classic movies, and enjoying our favorite sweets and treats. While we might love cooking (and eating) our holiday faves, we don’t love the shopping rush. We love holiday desserts! The build-up to the holidays is what’s so stressful. Going to the grocery store during the week of Christmas is what nightmares are made of! The crowds, the long lines, and worrying about what’s in and out of stock can be too much to handle, and it makes enjoying the week that much harder. That’s why Kroger Grocery Delivery is the unsung hero of Christmas. Kroger Delivery! Avoiding the store has never been easier, thanks to Kroger’s Delivery service. This is something we’ve used while staying in Disney World, and now it’s helping our Christmas cooking be even merrier. All it takes is simply filling your cart up on the Kroger app or their website, requesting the delivery, and watching out for your delivery. ©Kroger It’s basically like Santa coming early and dropping off the gift of groceries. Unlike Saint Nick, there is a small fee of $9.95, but that’s a low price for comfort. You can also get a Kroger Boost Membership, which gives you free deliveries. Brought right to you! There is nothing better than beating those early morning crowds in the grocery store, all while getting everything you need. Not having Christmas at home? No worries! Just have your groceries brought to Disney, too. Hollywood Studios holiday crowds The crowds in Disney World are no joke, especially during the holidays. One of our favorite tips for beating the crowds in Disney is having a quick breakfast before heading to the parks for rope drop, and Kroger Delivery makes that even easier. There may not be a Kroger grocery store in Central Florida, but they’ll bring your groceries right to your Disney World hotel so you can enjoy the holidays and beat the crowds with ease. All the groceries! Whether you’re on a Disney vacation or just treating yourself to a week of ease, Kroger is the way to go. 4. Another day, another Disney World snack review! SO MANY SNACKS It’s no secret that Disney World is home to some seriously stellar eats and treats, and anytime we get the chance to try a new one, we jump at it! With the holiday season officially in full swing, we’ve been checking out all sorts of snacks around the parks and hotels. And now, we’re checking out a new dessert that’s popped up at a recently opened restaurant! We stopped by The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers at Disney’s BoardWalk to try a new treat! The Snickerdoodle Cheesecake Bar is made with snickerdoodle cookie crust topped with our signature cream cheese filling, sprinkled with cinnamon sugar, and crumbled snickerdoodle cookie dough — and it’s a whopping $13.99. Ain’t she a beaut? It is so delicious — the base is nice and cookie-like, then you have the cheesecake filling, and you’ve also got a cinnamon-streusel topping. The flavors all work together really well and the dessert is not too overwhelmingly sweet. The cheesecake is creamy and thick and has a nice strong cream cheese flavor to it. Lots of cheesecake We do think this is better when it is freshly chilled — which it how it comes straight out of the bakery case — than it is after it sits a little bit, especially if you’re sitting outside in the sun when it warms up. Things tend to get a little mushy if you let it sit. Overall, it’s really delicious and we would recommend it as a snack based on flavor alone, but at $14, that price tag is a lot to pay for one bar. It’s certainly large enough to share with others, which does make the price sting a little less. That, and the fact that this cheesecake bar is straight-up delicious. YUM In the meantime, we’ll be on the hunt for the latest and greatest snacks to check out in Disney World and beyond! 6. So what makes us super excited about Orlando International Airport? Orlando International Airport If you’ve flown to the Orlando International Airport, you might have noticed that the food options in Terminal C are AMAZING (we’re talking Chef Art Smith’s Sunshine Diner AND Wine Bar George). However, most of us fly out of the other terminals and let’s just say — the food options are a little more limited. Well, we’ve got some great news about that — eight new restaurants are coming to the airport soon! According to The Orlando Business Journal, eight local restaurants are coming to the airport soon! The Greater Orlando Airport Authority has approved a first wave of new restaurants and shops through new concessions agreements. These agreements include more than 40 restaurants and stores! So let’s just say the airport is about to go through some BIG changes! Orlando International Airport is about to get some new eats! Some of the restaurants will be national chains, but eight Orlando local restaurants are also coming to the airport. Here’s the full list of new restaurants: Stasio’s Italian Deli Smoke & Donuts Kelly’s Ice Cream SoDough Detroit Pizza Milkhouse Jam-Eng Caribbean and English Cuisine 4 Rivers Smokehouse Otto’s High Dive ©Orlando International Airport So when can we expect to dine at these new spots? Designs and renovations of the restaurants and stores are expected to start in mid-2025. So it might be a little while before you’ll be able to grab food there, but it’s exciting knowing what’s coming, right? The airport also approved a $13 million project to offer real-time status updates for its parking spaces. That work is also expected to start in mid-2025 and be completed in 2027. 7. We set sail on Disney’s newest cruise ship, and we have so much to share! Disney Treasure Cruise Ship Thanks to a media preview, we got to hop aboard the Disney Treasure and check out everything it has to offer. From entertainment to dining to staterooms, we had an absolute blast on the newest cruise ship. And now, we’re here to give you a FULL TOUR of some of the staterooms onboard. Inside Stateroom Starting with the simplest room category, we have the inside stateroom. These come without portholes or balconies and are the smallest of the rooms. The inside stateroom that we checked out was Aladdin themed! Inside Stateroom Close to the door, there’s a seating area with a pull-out couch. It comes with a small end table that can be easily moved around to accommodate your needs. You can section off this half of the room from the bedroom with a curtain. Couch area The artwork hanging above the couch here is a nod to Agrabah — a full map of the kingdom, as seen in the animated movie! Artwork In the bedroom area, there’s a queen bed with another stunning piece of Aladdin artwork hanging above it. The room’s TV is mounted on the wall in here, so you could watch from the bed or from the couch. Bed There’s a decent amount of storage underneath the bed, so you can slide your suitcases underneath once you unpack. Or, if you prefer, keep them packed and just slide them in and out each day. Underneath the bed Next to each side of the bed, you’ll find an individual lamp, as well as lighting controls for the room. They’ve also got some outlets for you to charge your devices. Outlets Of course, we can’t forget about the main storage in the room! There’s a fairly large wardrobe/closet setup, as well as some open shelves and drawers. The vanity comes with a big mirror and a stool, so you can sit here and get ready while the bathroom is occupied. Storage One of the drawers opens to reveal a mini fridge. There’s not a lot of storage in here, but it’s a good size for keeping beverages cold in your room. In the fridge Inside the wardrobe, you’ll find your room’s supply of life jackets, as well as your ironing board, clothes hangers, and the safe. It’s not a massive amount of storage, but it’s pretty decent for a cruise ship. Inside the wardrobe And of course, we’ve got to show you an up-close shot of that stunning Aladdin art above the bed! Jasmine and Aladdin are pictured flying over the city on the magic carpet — a fitting photo since they’re featured in the Disney Treasure atrium. More artwork But what about the most important part…the bathroom? Well, these inside staterooms come with bathrooms complete with sink, toilet, and a shower/tub combo. They’re stocked with towels and basic toiletries. Bathroom The mirror lights up around the edges, and the vanity even has space for storing your personal items (which is more than some cruise ships we’ve been on!). Vanity Disney-branded hand and bath soaps will be left available for your stateroom. Toiletries The bathrooms also come with lotion, hair dryers, and towels. If you need more items, you can call and request them. Storage And that’s a wrap on the inside stateroom! Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom So what about those who want to level up a little bit? Well, we’re taking you on a tour of the oceanview stateroom next! This room that we were able to visit was Pocahontas themed. In this setup, the bedroom area is near the door, with the seating area over by the porthole. Ocean View Room This seating area also comes with a pull-out couch, movable end table, and curtain divider. The vanity and bookshelf storage is separate from the closet and on this side of the room in the oceanview layout, though. Seating area Each of these rooms comes with a large porthole, which will provide you ocean views throughout your journey! You can cover the porthole with the blackout curtains during the evening or naptime. The view! And of course, there are plenty of Disney touches, like this artwork of Pocahontas’s tribe. Pocahontas artwork The bathrooms in these rooms are the same as those in the verandah staterooms. You get a toilet, shower/tub and vanity with light-up mirror. Bathroom Each bathroom comes stocked with basic soaps and towels. Gotta love that sea salt bath soap! Soap The shower has a removable showerhead, towel bars, and a clothes line for hanging up those wet swimsuits after a day at the pool. Shower/tub combo And for bath products, you’ll be stocked with shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Totally not H2O products So there you have it — a full tour of the oceanview and inside staterooms on the Disney Treasure! 8. There are quite literally dozens of places to eat in EPCOT, so it can be hard to choose where to dine during your visit! Spaceship Earth at EPCOT Are you in the mood for Italian? French food? American BBQ? They’ve got it all! But if you’re hoping to eat in one particular World Showcase Pavilion, your options will be a little limited…and there’s an interesting reason why. The Morocco Pavilion has been a little low on dining offerings ever since the pandemic. Previously, you could dine at Restaurant Marrakesh, Spice Road Table, or Tangierine Cafe in the pre-2020 days. Morocco Restaurant But since the park reopened, Tangierine Cafe has mostly been used as a festival booth (with some light options in between festivals), and Restaurant Marrakesh has been “closed,” leaving Spice Road Table as the main offering. But why hasn’t Restaurant Marrakesh returned when so many other table service spots have? Restaurant Marrakesh For the past few years, Restaurant Marrakesh has been open sparingly, but only as a lounge…and not the kind that you eat in! We’ve seen it open during the International Food & Wine Festival as a lounge for Florida Blue members, and then again open occasionally in the spring for Annual Passholders exclusively. Florida Blue Lounge inside Restaurant Marrakesh During the times when the lounge is open, it usually offers complimentary light refreshments, and sometimes a fun activity or character meet. But it’s rarely crowded during the times that it’s open because it’s so tucked away and hidden in the back of the pavilion. Restaurant Marrakesh as the Florida Blue Lounge When Restaurant Marrakesh was operating as an actual restaurant a few years ago, it served Moroccan fare and even offered entertainment in the form of a belly dancer. It was a really unique dining experience in the park, and we’re definitely sad that we haven’t been able to experience it since! Belly Dancer So if you’re hoping to dine at Restaurant Marrakesh during your next trip, you might be out of luck. Disney hasn’t shared any information about it possibly reopening in the future, so we’ll just have to wait and see if it ever returns to what we loved before. 9. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, chances are you’ve heard of a little Australian Blue Heeler named Bluey who has taken the world by storm. Bluey and Bingo The series is incredibly popular globally thanks to the show’s characters, new “minisodes“, merchandise, and more. It was recently announced that a Bluey movie is in the works, and the show’s creator has shared his thoughts on it. It’s official — a Bluey movie is officially happening! The first-ever animated feature film for this adorable little pup is expected to hit theaters in 2027 before it eventually ends up on Disney+. ©Bluey The movie will be written and directed by Joe Brumm, the creator of the original show. The movie continues Bluey’s adventures of growing up and living with her Mom, Dad, and sister, Bingo. The original voice actors will be back as well! In the wake of the movie announcement, the show’s creator, Joe Brumm, has penned a letter to share some news — some good, and some “trifficult.” The good news, of course, is the Bluey movie announcement. ©Bluey The bad news is that Brumm has announced he will be taking a break from his involvement in the television series. The recent, longer episode of the show that just aired — “The Sign” — will mark Brumm’s TV finale for the show unless he decides to come back after this break. He shared, “I always said I wouldn’t keep making the show if I thought I couldn’t make any new season as good as the last,” and that would have been the case with a potential season four had he continued working. ©Disney Brumm continued, “Bluey has completely changed my life. It’s been an immensely satisfying thing to be a part of, more than I can really put into words. To walk away from it while it’s at such a height will seem crazy to some but, for now, I am finding it difficult to reach back genuinely into that four to six-year-old world and write authentically.” He reiterated that this was NOT an announcement about the end of the show — Bluey lives on! But, he will be focusing on the movie in the interim while the television crew will continue making excellent content. ©Disney The movie comes off the back of Bluey being the most-watched series on Disney+ globally with more than 50.5 billion minutes watched on the streaming service, according to Disney. We are super excited to see this little cattle dog on the big screen in 2027! As always, keep following the Disney Food Blog for your latest Disney movie news and updates. 10. Disney Imagineers are the best of the best creative geniuses around. ©Disney With innovative technology, not only can you be riding on the back of a banshee on a different planet, but you can also blast off to other galaxies, learn about the life cycle of a plant, and so much more. It looks like more Disney innovation is on its way because a new ride technology patent has been filed! While we already know that a whole lot of exciting changes are in store for Disney World over the next few years, it seems like the House of Mouse is wasting no time on coming up with new ride technology. According to the Orlando Business Journal, Disney has filed a patent for a “rider-controlled amusement park ride” that utilizes a “force sensor” within the vehicle. Magic Kingdom Essentially, riders would activate the sensor by leaning forward or putting pressure on it, and a “motion control system would adjust the vehicle’s position in real-time based on the input.” Based on the way a passenger moves, the sensor and ride would react accordingly. Animal Kingdom If you lean to the side, the ride vehicle may also head in that direction. Apply more pressure to the sensor and you might speed up or change motion. Real-time control like this isn’t something we’ve typically seen on amusement rides, but it could make them more engaging and personalized — causing riders to want to come back. Disney’s Hollywood Studios Here’s a look at what the system would potentially look like, according to Disney’s permit. As you can see, there’s a passenger area with a sensor attached to a large arm and track module. There’s no indication what this ride vehicle may actually be for at this point, but we’ll be keeping an eye on any future updates. ©Disney Disney isn’t the only theme park giant filing new patents these days. Universal has filed a patent for a “round ride system” with a central wheel and multiple spokes with ride vehicles attached to them. With this ride vehicle, there are two drive systems: one that rotates the center wheel and another that moves the spokes independently. Universal Studios Universal is also developing tech for “real-time proximity operation and object handoff,” which is a system designed for movement of bigger show elements during live shows and attractions. This would allow a prop or video screen to transfer between platforms or robotic arms. ©Universal While Disney and Universal haven’t made any sort of announcements about these patents and they may never actually come to fruition, we’ll be sure to keep an eye out for any potential updates. Millionaire Cake at The Cake Bake Shop – $22.99 per slice If you’ve ever dreamed of indulging in a millionaire’s lifestyle, or at least their dessert, The Cake Bake Shop has you covered with its Millionaire Cake. This towering slice is made up of rich chocolate cake layers paired with decadent chocolate ganache, creamy caramel, buttercream frosting, and a sprinkling of shortbread crumbs. Millionaire’s Cake This isn’t just a cake. It’s a full sensory experience. Each bite is soft, luscious, and practically melts in your mouth. Plus, the exterior is coated in milk chocolate and drizzled with caramel, adding a satisfying crunch from the shortbread crumbs on top. Delicious! While the $22.99 price tag is steep, we’d be lying if we said it wasn’t worth it. The flavors were incredible, and the quality of ingredients really shone through. Would we buy it again? For special occasions, absolutely. But it’s definitely not an every-visit kind of splurge. Andes Mint Cookies & Cream Cake at Gideon’s Bakehouse – $9 per slice ($68 for the whole cake) Gideon’s Bakehouse is already famous for its cookies, but did you know they also serve jaw-dropping cake slices? On our visit, the rotating daily flavor was Andes Mint Cookies & Cream, and naturally, we couldn’t resist. Andes Mint Cookies & Cream Cake This cake is an absolute beast. The layers are drenched in minty, cookies-and-cream frosting that’s as thick as the cake itself (a frosting-to-cake ratio we can respect). The outside is coated with chopped Andes Mints, giving it a cool, minty finish that balances the richness of the chocolate cake perfectly. Andes Mint Cookies & Cream Cake At just $9 a slice, this cake feels like a steal compared to some of the other pricey options on our list. It’s fresh, indulgent, and ideal for anyone who loves the combination of chocolate and mint. And if you’re feeling bold, you can order the entire cake for $68, though we think a single slice is plenty for most people! Toy Soldier Mickey Dome Cake at Amorette’s Patisserie – $67 At Amorette’s Patisserie, we took things to the next level with the Toy Soldier Mickey Dome Cake. This seasonal specialty (available through December 31, 2024) is a sight to behold. Decked out with intricate holiday-themed chocolate decorations, this cake is a true work of art. Toy Solider Mickey Dome Cake But let’s talk flavor. Inside, you’ll find layers of chocolate chiffon, milk chocolate mousse, and coconut-pecan filling. It’s essentially a glorified German chocolate cake wrapped in a fluffy mousse exterior. The texture was light and airy, but the flavor packed a sugary punch. Plenty of sugary bites While the $67 price tag is pretty shocking, this cake is meant to be shared. It serves 8 to 10 people. We loved the festive design and flavors, but the high cost makes it more of a special-occasion indulgence. If you’re hosting a holiday party and want something unique and Instagram-worthy, this could be the splurge for you. Honorable Mention: The Kitchen Sink at The Kitchen Restaurant – $48 Okay, so technically this one isn’t a Disney World cake. It’s served at The Kitchen Restaurant in Universal Orlando’s Hard Rock Hotel. But we had to include it because, wow, what a dessert! The Kitchen Sink is seven layers of indulgence, featuring brownie, peanut butter crème, chocolate chunk cookie, red velvet, vanilla cheesecake, devil’s food chocolate cake, and vanilla chiffon, all topped with ice cream, chocolate sauce, and strawberries. The Kitchen Sink This behemoth of a dessert is best shared with a group of 4-6 people. It’s simply too much for one person to handle. The flavors are bold and varied, with each layer offering something different. It’s served cold, which made the brownie layer a bit tough, but overall, it’s a fun and delicious challenge. Just be prepared for a mess when cutting into it! Bite of the cake So, are these pricey cakes worth it? Well, if you’re a dessert enthusiast or celebrating a special occasion, the Millionaire Cake at The Cake Bake Shop and the seasonal dome cake at Amorette’s Patisserie are excellent splurges. For a more budget-friendly indulgence, Gideon’s Bakehouse delivers big flavor at a fraction of the cost. Until then, keep it right here at DFB for all the latest Disney World dining tips and reviews! 12. I don’t want to be mean. I don’t like being the Negative Nancy (sorry to the Nancys…nothing personal!). I want to give Disney a chance! But, at this point, I’ve given Disney about…20 chances. Enough is enough. ©Disney If you love a live-action remake, you might not like what I am going to say. My arguments are probably not any different than what people are saying in Disney’s comment section. But after the latest live-action Lilo & Stitch promotion came out online, I had to say something. Where do we draw the line?! The trailer is a clear rip of the early-2000s “Inter-Stitch-als” Disney made to promote the original Lilo & Stitch animated movie. There was the time Stitch crashed Aladdin… ©Disney …The Little Mermaid… ©Disney …Beauty and the Beast… ©Disney …and The Lion King. Back when these debuted, I remember my tiny mind being BLOWN by the idea that Stitch found his way into other movies. It was like breaking the fourth wall. It was creative, memorable, and (this is important) FUNNY! ©Disney But this time around, it wasn’t funny. CGI Stitch is cute. It’s just that his “realistic” movements and facial expressions feel stiff in comparison to the 2D animated version. Plus, the crossover joke already exists, so this is just a (sorry to be harsh) lazy recreation trying to promote two upcoming live-action movies at the same time (a live-action Mufasa movie premiers December 20th). The nostalgia play is getting old. ©Disney When I say the live-action Stitch feels stiff, this is what I mean. Have you ever heard the old joke, “Never pause an animated Disney movie?” It’s because you might end up paused on a frame that looks something like this. Where the actions defy the normal laws of gravity and facial elasticity. When you’re watching the movie, you don’t see poor Cobra Bubbles like this. But the action is big, dramatic, and intentional — animators deliberately DREW this. Live-action Cobra Bubbles can’t have this kind of reaction when a computer-animated character throws a book at his face, and doesn’t that kind of suck the fun out of the movie? ©Disney Honestly, I’m tired. I want Disney to wake me up! I want fresh new ideas. I want the kind of magic Disney created when it made Enchanted. Can we go back to that, please? 14. Quite a few attractions will be CLOSING in Disney World in 2025. Magic Kingdom Some attractions will be closing permanently to make way for other offerings, like Tom Sawyer Island, Liberty Square Riverboat, and TriceraTop Spin. But outside of the permanent closures, there will also be a few attractions that close for refurbishment…and now one has been added to the list! As expected, the Hall of Presidents has now been added to Disney World’s list of upcoming refurbishments. The show will close on January 20th to be updated, and there is currently no reopening date listed. Hall of Presidents For those who don’t know, the Hall of Presidents is a show that features animatronics of every single United States president, telling the story of our country’s history. Whenever a new president is elected, the show will close to get updated with the animatronic of that person. The current president’s animatronic is always featured prominently at the front of the stage, and they get a speaking part during the show. The seal of the United States This closure will come after two other Magic Kingdom attractions close on January 6th, 2025 — Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Astro Orbiter. The former will be closed until 2026 while the latter will be closed until summer 2025. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad We’ll make sure to keep you updated with any reopening information about this show in the coming months, so stay tuned to DFB for the latest. 7 Disney World Rides That Will Permanently Close in 2025 — Click Here! 15. It’s hard to know what sort of weather you might be up against when you’re planning your Disney World vacation. Rainy day at Animal Kingdom Florida’s weather can be unpredictable and you might find yourself experiencing severe weather depending on when you’ll be in the parks. And, for folks visiting Disney World today, December 19th, that’s exactly what they’re up against. Heads up if you’re heading to Disney World or anywhere in Central Florida today! Per Click Orlando, a dense fog advisory is in effect across the region. A foggy day at Hollywood Studios Because of this, visibility is significantly reduced with some spots only remaining visible for one mile. The weather advisory is currently only in effect until 10AM ET. If you’re driving around Central Florida this morning, make sure you’re using your fog lights, maintaining a safe distance from any other vehicles, and reducing your speed so you can get to where you’re going! Gloomy in Disney World The fog should be clearing up before too long, but after that, a cold front is expected to make its way through Central Florida from the late morning to the afternoon. We could see some isolated showers and thunderstorms as part of this cold front, so you might want to be prepared for rain if you’re heading to Disney World over the next few days. Slinky Dog Dash On Saturday, the high is around 62 degrees with “wake-up” temperatures closer to the 40s. On Sunday, expect a high of 68 degrees with lows of 40s as well. Rainy Day in Magic Kingdom Make sure you pack accordingly if you’re heading to Disney World during Christmas week, where temperatures are expected to be chilly at night and warmer during the day. We’re talking layers, people! Hats, jackets, hoodies, you know what we’re talking about here. We’ve got temperatures in the 40s that week, so shorts and a tank top probably won’t cut it for this time of year! That being said, you might feel a little warmer in the morning and afternoon, so that’s where layering can really help out! 18. As people who go to Disney World a lot, we should be used to change by now. Things are always changing in the parks, and that’s how Walt wanted it. Yet, sometimes those changes just HURT. Columbia Harbour House For example, we’re still wrapping our head around losing Muppets Courtyard to make way for a new Monsters, Inc. land in Hollywood Studios, although the Muppets will be moving over to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. We’re also feeling a little off about some of the other parks changes that will see beloved attractions disappear. When it comes to food, though, we’ve got a lot of changes we’re still salty about (the Sleepy Hollow Waffle situation, for example). Well, we’ve spotted another food change in Disney World and we’ve got questions. Our beloved Columbia Harbour House over in Magic Kingdom has broken our hearts AGAIN. Okay, so yes, they got rid of the hush puppies, but then brought them back (whew), but now, we’ve discovered a shrinkflation situation happening there and we’re not entirely happy about it. Columbia Harbour House If you order the Trio Platter, which features a combination of beer-battered shrimp, chicken, and beer-battered fish served with French fries and hushpuppies, you might discover it looks a little different. Previously, the Trio Platter came with two chicken, two fish, and three shrimp. This is what it looked like. Trio Platter at Columbia Harbour House (the “old” version) Well, we recently confirmed with a Cast Member at Columbia Harbor House that the new version of the Trio Platter only includes one fish, one chicken, and three shrimp and three hushpuppies. Yep, the amount of meat in the new version is down by two. That’s all well and good, but the thing is — this new version of the Trio Platter is the same price as the previous version with MORE meat: $14.29. At least we still get these? So Columbia Harbour House giveth (the hushpuppies) and Columbia Harbour House taketh away (the extra meat). So when you next order the Trio Platter, we hope you’re not surprised by this downgrade. We might just protest by only ordering a side of hushpuppies from here from now on. Okay, we won’t, but still… Stay tuned to DFB for more. Forget Everything You’ve Been Told. 19. Disneyland has a LOT going on right now. Downtown Disney Monorail station Although Tiana’s Bayou Adventure has opened and the new Haunted Mansion queue is complete, there’s still a lot happening around the resort. In California Adventure, a new Coco ride and Avatar-themed land are on the way. The Red Car Trolley in that park will also be permanently closing soon to make way for an Avengers Campus expansion. In Downtown Disney, new restaurants and shops have recently opened, with more on the way. Well, now, a classic Disneyland attraction will be closing soon and you need to know about it. The Disneyland Monorail opened in 1959 and was the first daily operating Monorail in the world. Currently, it connects Downtown Disney to Tomorrowland inside Disneyland Park. Well, the Monorail will be closing soon — but don’t worry, it’s only temporary. The closure is for a scheduled refurbishment (aka maintenance). Disneyland Monorail Disneyland has confirmed that the Monorail will be closed as of January 6th, 2025, for refurbishment. However, no reopeniing date has been announced yet. The Monorail Walt Disney originally believed that the Monorail would be THE public transport option for the future (hence one also being built in Disney World). However, the technology never really took off, although there are other Monorail systems in the world. At first, it was only an attraction that took visitors on a scenic route around Disneyland. It eventually expanded to the Disneyland Hotel, although that stop was eventually demolished. Now, you can take it to get from Downtown Disney to INSIDE Tomorrowland and back (meaning you need a valid park ticket to ride it). So if you’re visiting Disneyland soon, you’ll want to make note of that closure. We’ll keep an eye out for a reopening date and let you know when Disney announces one. Stay tuned to DFB for more. 20. If there’s one thing we know about McDonald’s, it’s that they love a seasonal menu item! McDonald’s We’re constantly seeing the fast food brand release new limited-time offerings or bring back old menu favorites. And don’t even get us started on all the special edition Happy Meals! But if you’re a fan of the Netflix hit Squid Game, then you definitely want to know about their latest offering. McDonald’s in Australia is now offering the Squid Game Meal, inspired by Netflix’s most popular show. With this new meal, you get a 10-piece Chicken McNuggets medium or large meal, served with limited-time Korean BBQ Sauce, fries, and a drink. ©McDonald’s The meal comes in a themed Happy Meal-style box and is available for a limited time at participating restaurants. The box even has artwork inspired by the show! McDonald’s On Instagram, @snackolator says that the meal also comes with a Dalgona Candy. For those who haven’t seen the show, this is a candy where you have to break the shape out without cracking the shape. If you fail, you’re eliminated from the game! Honestly, based on the content of the Netflix show, we totally get why McDonald’s didn’t brand this item as a “Happy” Meal. ©Netflix Sadly, this meal is only available in Australia at the moment, so we’ll have to wait and see if it comes to the United States as well. 22. It’s a big day! We’re getting a chance to explore Disney’s newest hotel tower ahead of its grand opening. Island Tower In case you missed it, Island Tower is the newest addition to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. The Disney Vacation Club (DVC) property offers several different room types to sleep anywhere from two to nine people. It opened on December 17th, and sits on Seven Seas Lagoon, where it offers great views of Magic Kingdom. Just how great are those views? Well, we’re about to find out if you can watch fireworks from Island Tower! As we mentioned, you’ll have a choice of rooms at Island Tower, including a duo studio, a one-bedroom villa, a two-bedroom villa, or a two-bedroom penthouse villa. Disney previously promised that many of these rooms will have “spectacular views.” Well, when we think spectacular, we think great views of Magic Kingdom’s Happily Ever After fireworks show. We LOVE Happily Ever After! When we got the chance to stay at Island Tower, we were hoping for a room with a great view of the fireworks show. Alas, we ended up with a parking lot view instead. So, if you’re like us and you can’t see the fireworks from your hotel room…where should you go watch? Views from the Bamboo Forest Terrace Some of the best views of the fireworks can be found in the building’s garden terraces. During our stay at the hotel, we started watching the fireworks first from the Bamboo Forest Terrace, which is on the 3rd floor. Bamboo Forest Terrace During the daytime, this is a stunning seating area with excellent views of Seven Seas Lagoon, but during the evening, you might be able to catch a glimpse of the Magic Kingdom fireworks…if it’s not too crowded. Since you’re only on the third floor, the view isn’t prime, but we could still see the fireworks in the sky and the music was piped in. You get a decent view of Cinderella Castle, but not much of Main Street, U.S.A. Fireworks from Bamboo Forest Terrace For a better view, you may want to head up to the Wave Break Terrace. This one is located on the 5th floor, and like the other terraces, it has a stunning atmosphere during the daytime. Wave Break Terrace However, at night, this seems to be the fireworks hot spot! Since it’s higher up, you get a better view of Main Street, U.S.A., and during our visit, there were probably 30 people packed onto this terrace to watch the show. Wave Break Terrace If you want to watch the fireworks from this location, you’ll probably need to get here a little early and stake your spot. Wave Break Terrace But, those aren’t the only options! You can also watch the fireworks with music piped in from the Island Tower lawn. During the opening night of the tower, all the chairs were full with fireworks viewers, but there was still plenty of space to stand or sit on the grass. Around the lagoon Obviously, you don’t get the same view as you would on a higher floor of the building, but this could be a bit more peaceful and it was MUCH less busy than the beach at the main part of the Polynesian Village Resort usually is. Hopefully this area can stay a hidden gem! Outside the tower So there you have it — our experience with watching fireworks from Island Tower. We’ll make sure to keep you in the loop with any more tips that we learn. We’ll be checking out EVERYTHING at Island Tower, so stay tuned to DFB for more. 23. Disney World’s NEW Island Tower at the Polynesian Village Resort hotel is officially OPEN! Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort As of December 17th, this hotel expansion is now welcoming guests so you know we had to be there to check it all out. The Island Tower is home to brand-new hotel rooms, a new pool and splash pad, gorgeous terrace gardens, and an all-new restaurant — Wailulu Bar & Grill. We had our sights set on this menu for a while, and now it’s time to finally dig in! Atmosphere Wailulu Bar & Grill boasts gorgeous views of Seven Seas Lagoon and Cinderella’s Castle at Magic Kingdom. This casual walk-up pool bar and grill features an all-day menu for lunch and dinner, but specialty coffee and on-the-go morning pastries are also available during breakfast. You’ll find it located just off of the new Cove Pool, and the vibes are immaculate. Welcome to Wailulu Bar & Grill! The restaurant’s space is adorned with Polynesian-inspired artwork with much of it crafted using recycled materials and reclaimed fishing nets. Fish swim overhead once you walk inside. It’s like stepping into the ocean. Stepping inside You’ll even find a Manta Ray swimming above your head when you sit down to dine. This is a quick service location and seating includes tables, chairs, and longer padded benches. Polynesian vibe Booth seating is also available. Booth There’s also an outdoor patio. The patio Some seating is available at the bar. Bar The view of Seven Seas Lagoon is stunning. You can also see Cinderella Castle in Magic Kingdom from the restaurant. That view, though! So, what’s on the menu at Wailulu Bar & Grill? We thought you’d never ask! Menu Appetizers like Sweet Potato Hummus and Spiced Ham Musubi are on the menu with more substantial eats including Sticky Pork Ribs, Poke Bowls, and a Wayfinder Burger. A signature Polynesian Resort treat — a DOLE Whip Sundae — is also available! There are plenty of Starters to choose from… ©Disney …along with delicious-sounding Main Entrées like Teriyaki Chicken Sliders and Short Rib Loco Moco. ©Disney Kiddos will be able to choose from a variety of appetizers, entrées, and sides… ©Disney …and of course, there will also be DESSERT including a DOLE Whip Sundae, chocolate cake, and crème brûlée. ©Disney There are non-alcoholic specialty beverages and plenty of tropical-inspired cocktails… ©Disney …a pretty wide selection of beer… ©Disney …and a decent wine list as well. ©Disney If you’re craving coffees or tea, along with specialty coffees, you can grab those here as well! ©Disney And now, on to the main event! Eats Let’s dig into some Starters. The Ahi Tuna Crisps are made with Marinated Ahi Tuna, Crispy Fried Wontons, Avocado Crema, Sriracha-Aïoli, for Soy Glaze for $17. First, these are nachos, and we LOVE THAT. We also loved how big the portion size was, meaning it’s shareable. The wonton chips are super crispy and don’t get soggy, even under all those toppings. The toppings and dressings tie all the flavors together. The Ahi tuna melts in your mouth and we like how it has just enough heat to detect it, but it’s not hot. You had us at Nachos The Sticky Pork Ribs are $15 and made with Salt-cured Green Cabbage, Furikake, Jicama Slaw, and Pineapple Chips. They are DELICIOUS. It’s like they’re glazed in a teriyaki sauce, but you also get a nice sesame flavor in it. The meat is SO well cooked, too: they’re crispy on the inside, but inside is a nice fatty piece of meat — yep, the meat is mostly fat, and at times, the aesthetic of the ribs made us feel like we were chewing on a burnt piece of meat…but kinda’ like in a good way, right? Gotta’ love some ribs The Crispy Chicken Wings are Adobo-marinated with a Soy Glaze and served with a Tomato-Fresno Pepper Relish for $15. These are SO good, but the main reason they are good is the sauce and toppings. The wings are cooked nice and crispy on the outside, but tender on the inside. The toppings are so FRESH and we get a nice savory flavor from the glaze, as well as the additional flavor of the toppings. However, like we said, the TOPPINGS are what makes this sing — the chicken wings are just basic chicken wings. The toppings on these wings are SO good The Grilled Shrimp is $16 and is made with Smoked Paprika, Black Garlic Emulsion, Garlic-Lemon Butter, and Crispy Garlic. Okay, so you only get three pieces of shrimp, but these shrimp are HUGE. The sauce itself had a bit of a kick, thanks to that paprika, and there was tons of garlic flavor (vampires beware!). It’s also nice that it comes with some greens on the side to balance out the smokey garlic flavor. It’s an appetizer, but it could also be a light lunch! HUGE shrimp The Musubi is Glazed Spam, Crispy Rice Pearls, Furikake, and Sriracha-Honey for $12. Let’s just start singing the Monty Python “Spam” song, okay? This is so unique and savory with a nice crunch from the rice pearls. Spam can be AMAZING, y’all, and this is proof. Bring on the spam musubi! The Grilled Shishito Peppers for $11 come with Eggplant-Tahini Purée and they are YUM. Okay, so it’s hard to mess up blistered shishito peppers, but these were well-cooked. Now, we don’t normally expect heat from these kind of peppers, but the thing with Shishito peppers it that about every one in 10 is spicy. Well, we had two spicy ones on our plate, so you’ve been warned. The tahine purée is good, and it doesn’t smother the pepper. We loved these peppers Okay, let’s head into Main Courses — yes, we’re not even halfway done with the review yet. Thanks to Moana, we had to get the Wayfinder Burger for $23, made with Two Pressed Patties, American Cheese, Onion Jam, and Volcano Sauce on a Sweet Bun served with Mac Salad or Sweet Potato Fries (we went for the fries because we love sweet potatoes). The beef is SO fresh and it has that homemade burger taste (you know the kind you can’t get from a pre-made patty). Honestly, we were getting flashbacks to the Steakhouse 71 Stack Burger that we love so much. The sauce on it has a bit of a kick, and it’s SO nice. We also loved the caramelized onion jam that offers a hint of sweetness. This burger is Moana approved The Grilled Teriyaki Chicken Poke Bowl is made with Sushi-style Rice, Pickled Cucumbers, Vegetables, Spicy Poke Sauce, and Macadamia Nuts with Grilled Teriyaki Chicken for $22. SO much good stuff here. It’s just a standard poke bowl, but IT IS SO GOOD. The chicken was well-cooked, juicy, and tender (dare we say MOIST even though we know some people hate that word?). It also had a great flavor and the poke sauce was FIRE, y’all. Honestly, you can’t go wrong with a good poke bowl. A solidly good poke bowl The Grilled Fish of the Day was Hamachi, and it’s served with Green Curry Broth, Jasmine Rice, Chickpeas, and Sweet Potato for $32. It’s such a well-cooked fish and what makes it good is that it’s a white fish, so you don’t get a super fishy flavor from it. It’s nice and meaty and went well with the accompaniments. Our only complaint about it? WE WANTED MORE (but don’t we always?). More, please? We also ordered the Teriyaki Chicken Sliders for $19, made with Kimchi Slaw on a Sweet Bun served with Mac Salad or Sweet Potato Fries. These sliders are HUGE — they’re only like 10% smaller than a full sandwich. There’s a lovely teriyaki flavor mixed in, and the slaw offers a nice extra flavor and crunch. These are the biggest sliders we’ve seen. We love that you can choose a side, and we went with Mac Salad and this could be the best we’ve ever had. It’s made with purple sweet potato, which is a common Hawaiian ingredient. Then there’s the mayo base with the zingy vinegar — INCREDIBLE. We want to get a pint of this and just eat it on the beach ALL DAY LONG. THIS WAS INCREDIBLE The Sautéed Shrimp Chow Mein Salad has Charred Cabbage, Shishito Peppers, Hearts of Palm, Pickled Sweet Potato, Sunflower Butter Dressing for $22. Color us IMPRESSED. Now we think some folks might think this salad is overdressed with how much sunflower butter dressing is on it, but we thought it was just very flavorful. You get three MASSIVE shrimp, and the salad itself is well-portioned and hardy. This a very filling salad. Our new fave salad Speaking of impressed, our favorite thing EVER could be the Beef Short Rib Loco Moco with Shiitake Mushroom Gravy, Crispy Rice Cake, and Fried Egg for $33. This is the one the servers recommend, and for good reason. The short rib is tender. The mushroom gravy is flavorful (and we could’ve ordered a bowl of it like soup). The egg is perfectly cooked — that yolk just drips down and adds extra-ness to everything. The crunchy rice is nice, too, for texture (although it’s soft on the inside). Do yourself a favor and order this We also checked out the Kid’s White Cheddar Macaroni & Cheese for $10.50. It’s served with a choice of two selections and choice of Small Lowfat Milk, Small DASAN Bottled Water, or Small Minute Maid Apple Juice. So, this was disappointing. We get that picky kids might prefer bland, but this just wasn’t great. The pasta was overcooked and the cheese sauce was watery. Honestly, we’d rather have boxed mac and cheese over this. The broccoli we got as a side also had like ZERO flavor. But not this Now, the moment you’ve all been waiting for. Let’s talk about the DOLE Whip Sundae. It comes with Hibiscus Meringue, and Macerated Pineapple and Berries for $8. First, Wailulu Bar & Grill is the ONLY sitdown location in Disney World where you can order a DOLE Whip. NO, REALLY. This baby is TALL and its sitting in a bed of fresh fruit and their juices. Then you’ve got a cute little flower on top with the meringue bits. So it’s pretty! And there’s a little Mickey on top. The infamous DOLE Whip Sundae BUT…this sundae isn’t all presentation. It’s also delicious. When you take a bite, you get the cold DOLE Whip, the meringue just crumbles in your mouth. You can’t detect much of the hibiscus flavor of it, though — it’s overwhelmed by the pineapple. So this is a solid DOLE Whip with some fruity extras. DAY MADE. We love anything DOLE Whip We never thought we’d say this about Chocolate Cake, but the chocolate cake here is probably our new favorite dessert in Disney World. Forget paying $23 for a slice of cake…come here and get this $11 slice with Salted Caramel Ganache and Coffee-infused Chantilly Cream. First, this isn’t a basic chocolate cake and you can tell just by looking at it. This baby is EXTRA. This is not your regular old chocolate cake That salted caramel ganache just takes it up SEVERAL levels. Then there are these little salted pieces IN The cake that are just CHEF’S KISS. It’s also served with Caramelized Banana, and that just added to the flavor. Seriously, we would tell you to leave Magic Kingdom for this cake. Drinks You know we HAD to try the Passion Fruit and Pineapple Daiquiri for $15.50. It’s made with Ten to One Caribbean White Rum, Minute Maid Passion Fruit Orange Guava Juice, Pineapple, and Lime. Man, oh, man, we wanted to like this but something just didn’t work. It taste great on the tongue when you first take a sip, but then it has this odd aftertaste we didn’t like. Maybe it’s because we’re used to traditional POG juice and the pineapple knocks the balance off? We just thought it was wonky…yep, that’s the word we’re using here. It just didn’t work The Kula Strawberry Sake is made with Wildflowers Junmai Sake, Campari Liqueur, Rockey’s Botanical Liqueur, and Wild Strawberry for $16.50. Okay, so we’re just going to tell you NOT to order this. You DO get a strawberry taste on the front, and it’s nice and fruity, but then it’s SO bitter like you just swallowed cough medicine. That bitterness stays on the tongue, too. For you Club Cool fans, imagine the aftertaste of Beverly, and you’re close to imagining what this was like. If Beverly were a cocktail The Lili’uokalani Mai Tai for $16.50 is made withLili’uoakalani Tea-infused Vodka, Jamaican Rum, Passion Fruit, Guava, Lime, Orgeat (Almond) andFalernum. Honestly, this drink was a little lackluster. You can taste a bit of the guava, but it’s not as fruity as you would think it should be with all those ingredients. Not impressed BUT The Banana Old Fashioned is good, although it’s not a particular standout for us. For $17.50, it’s made with Michter’s Single Barrel Rye Whiskey, Tempus Fugit Spirits Crème de Banane, Appleton Estate 8 yr Reserve Rum, St. Elizabeth Allspice Dram Liqueur, and Angostura Bitters. It’s not particularly like a standard old-fashioned, so if that’s your thing, you’ve been warned. It isn’t super sweet, though, and the banana isn’t overpowering, so it’s well-balanced. Is it the best drink we’ve ever had? Well, not really. Would we order it again? Probably. Now THIS is good However, the Hibiscus Margarita is pretty tasty. For $17.50, you get a drink with Teremana Blanco Tequila, Sorel Liqueur, Cinnamon Syrup, Hibiscus, and Agave. It’s well-balanced, although you can taste the tequila. The hibiscus tea in it is steeped for 15 minutes for maximum taste. A solid margarita You can get a non-alcoholic version of the tea, and we slightly prefer that version, but this is still a solid margarita you want to drink by the pool (technically, you ARE drinking it by the pool in this restaurant). Nosh or Not You should stop by Wailulu Bar & Grill if… You want a unique dining experience you can’t find anywhere else in Disney World. This restaurant has really thought out its menu to showcase Polynesian ingredients and flavors. You’re staying at Island Tower or the Polynesian. It only makes sense that if you’re staying here, you make your way over to this dining spot. You want to dine with a view. Wailulu Bar & Grill has one of the best views in Disney World right now of Seven Seas Lagoon and Magic Kingdom — and you don’t even need a reservation to dine there. You should skip Wailulu Bar & Grill if… You have picky eaters. The flavors here are very unique and picky eaters might be turned off. There is a kid’s menu with basics like a Cheeseburger and Macaroni & Cheese, but that might not be enough for those who are super picky. You’re not staying at the Polynesian. Although the Polynesian Village Resort is on Disney World’s Monorail system, you’ll still have to hike over to Island Tower from the Monorail station in the main part of the resort if you want to eat here. You want a dedicated restaurant reservation. For all intents and purposes, this is a quick-service dining location, and the restaurant is not currently taking reservations. So we can imagine it could get a little busy here, especially during the more crowded parts of the year. Overall It’s kind of interesting that it took THIS long for Disney to finally put in a Polynesian dining experience that feels this authentic at the Polynesian Village Resort Hotel. The menu is something you won’t find anywhere else in Disney World, and if you’re looking for that kind of unique dining spot, Wailulu Bar & Grill is for you. It’s authentic. It’s unique. It’s real. We’ll be bringing you a FULL TOUR of the new Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, so check back here for more! 25. Something NEW is coming to the 2025 EPCOT International Festival of the Arts! 2024 EPCOT Festival of the Arts Each year, EPCOT hosts several seasonal festivals, including the Food and Wine Festival, the Flower and Garden Festival, the Festival of the Arts, and the Festival of the Holidays (which is happening NOW). These events always seem to brighten up the park — and we never get tired of snacking around the World Showcase. Well, from January 17th to February 24th, the Festival of the Arts will be BACK with some new and returning snacks and drinks. In fact, Disney just confirmed that a NEW food booth will be at the festival! Over in CommuniCore Plaza, Disney recently started a new tradition during its seasonal EPCOT festivals. Each season, the kitchen near CommuniCore Hall transforms to match the theme of the current EPCOT festival. Right now, for example, this booth is called Experimental Prototype Cookies of Tomorrow, and it serves (you guessed it) holiday cookies. For the Festival of the Arts, EPCOT will host the Opening Bites Food Studio! EPCOT Festival of the Arts We still don’t have the official menu for this new food booth yet, but Disney hinted, “This menu is all about paying homage to the foods and drinks immortalized onstage.” Could we get some Broadway-themed bites? Maybe a Lion King or Aladdin snack? We can’t wait to see! 2024 Festival Favorites Speaking of new additions, Disney also revealed that a new Artful Photo Op is coming soon!
