  1. This is huge news for Bluey fans! Bluey and Bingo! Our favorite Australian cattle dog is back and better than ever! Bluey, the animated children’s show, is popular globally thanks to the show’s characters, new “minisodes“, merchandise, and more. If you’re anything like us, this news will make your day! Bluey and her entire family are going to be bigger than ever thanks to the news that the first ever Bluey movie is in the works! ©Disney Disney announced today, December 17th, that the first ever animated feature film for Bluey is expected to hit theaters in 2027 before finding its permanent home on Disney+. This is of little surprise thanks to the show’s multiple Emmy and BAFTA awards. Bluey even appeared in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade The movie will be written and directed by Joe Brumm, the creator of the original show. The movie continues Bluey’s adventures of growing up and living with her Mom, Dad, and sister, Bingo. The movie will be bringing back the original voice actors as well, and we personally can’t wait to hear their soothing Australian accents on the big screen. AMC in Disney Springs The movie comes off the back of Bluey being the most watched series on Disney+ globally with more than 50.5 billion minutes watched on the streaming service, according to Disney. We are super excited to see this little cattle dog on the big screen in 2027! As always, keep following DisneyFoodBlog for your latest Disney movie news and updates. 2. January 6th is shaping up to be quite a day at Disney World. Magic Kingdom As we’ve said many times in the past, refurbishments are a fact of life at Disney World. In fact, you’d be hard-pressed to find a single day when every ride and attraction across the report is up and running without a single one closed for some kind of maintenance. Given the complex nature of many of these attractions and their necessary safety requirements, this is understandable. However, even when keeping that in mind, the sixth day of 2025 is setting up to be a doozie. On January 6th, three large people-eating attractions across the Walt Disney World will be closing for refurbishments of various lengths. Let’s begin with the biggest of the three, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. The popular coaster will close for refurbishment on January 6th, and remain down for the majority of 2025. According to Disney, guests will be able to dodge “exploding dynamite and falling boulders as (they) swoop around turns, drop into canyons and dart through the mysterious ghost town of Tumbleweed” once again in 2026, “with a little bit of new magic” to boot. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad The loss of the “wildest ride in the wilderness” for at least a year will undoubtedly have a major impact on the park’s overall waits and crowd flow, as Big Thunder is still one of the Magic Kingdom’s most popular rides – – with some of its highest wait times. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Next, January 6th will see Animal Kingdom’s Kali River Rapids close for refurbishment. This one was expected, as the attraction – – like most outdoor water rides – – tends to go down for maintenance in January and February as the weather is often too cold for most guests to enjoy them (yes, even in Florida). The ride is scheduled to reopen in March of 2025. You’ll probably sit with strangers on Kali River Rapids The closure will likely have a noticeable effect on Animal Kingdom’s wait times, particularly the park’s busier rides, as Kali River Rapids is often in the Top 5 longest average waits at the park during most weeks behind only the Pandora attractions and/or Expedition and Kilimanjaro Safari. The rapids, which first opened in 1999, are described by Disney as “a thrilling whitewater adventure through a lush jungle in the heart of Asia” where riders can “…skim across an erupting geyser, drift below a canopy of lush vegetation and be whisked along fast-moving rapids. Graze gushing waterfalls and bedrock amid the raging current. Then, as the harmony of nature is disrupted, you’ll plummet down a dramatic 20-foot slope!” Kali River Rapids Finally, EPCOT’s Gran Fiesta Tour – – located in the Mexico pavilion – -is also closing for refurbishment on January 6th. While the boat ride isn’t often thought of as a headline attraction at EPCOT, its closure will likely put even more strain on the popular Frozen Ever After and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure attractions located in Norway and France respectively as they’ll be the only rides in World Showcase until the Gran Fiesta Tour reopens in March of 2025. Let’s Go for a Ride! The attraction, which Disney describes as a “gentle cruise down the Rio Grande on a dark boat ride past some of the most famous sights and cities in Mexico” featuring the Three Caballeros, technically opened at EPCOT in 2007. However, the essential core of the attraction located in the park’s Mexico Pavilion has existed at the park since it opened as El Rio del Tiempo on opening day in 1982. Fiesta Hoy! January 6th is going to be a massive day at Walt Disney World, with three attractions going down for refurbishment, including one that will remain so for the entirety of 2025. Stay tuned to DFB for more on these closures. 7 Disney World Rides That Will Permanently Close in 2025 Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! 4. It’s the holiday season, and even Disney World’s most chaotic spot is celebrating! Welcome back to tiny town! That’s right, it’s Christmastime in the tiny train town at EPCOT! Of course, the citizens are still up to their tomfoolery and shenanigans, but this time, there’s a bit of holly jolly cheer in the air. So let’s take a visit to the village and see what’s going on! The weather is getting nippier, so it’s likely time for those residents to start donning their winter coats and keeping to their tiny houses, but the trains are still running with a vengeance. And this year, the trains are housing a fun surprise… Tiny train town! …each of the trains in the town has been decorated for the holiday season! The engine cars on each are decked out with Disney characters and festive stickers, like Christmas trees and wreaths. How charming! Check out the trains! Some of the trains are even carrying precious holiday cargo, like oversized presents for the residents of the city. I’m so glad to see these vehicles being put to use for noble purposes! So festive! One of the trains even had an even MORE miniature Christmas village set up in one of its cargo cars. I’m very proud of my town’s tiny residents for getting in the festive mood — this mayor is grateful to round out the year with a very merry visit. More holiday trains! And if this holiday weren’t already magical enough, it seems that the werewolf has disappeared from its spot staking out Dave’s house. It’s a Christmas MIRACLE! Now, after one of the hardest years, Dave can enjoy his holiday season in peace. Here’s to hoping the hairy beast doesn’t return in the new year. SHOCK AND SURPRISE! Wow, what an incredible holiday season to celebrate in the itty bitty city! For now, Madam Mayor is signing off to celebrate with the regular-sized people. 5. We went to Disney World every day in 2024, and as the year is coming to an end, we wanted to share the best products we tested in the parks. Cinderella Castle We’ve spent our Disney days in the rain, the heat, the thunderstorms, and in the cold. We tried 8 products that made our days better, and we think they will help you, too! DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. Be sure to sign up for a FREE trial of Amazon Prime by clicking below to help make getting these Disney essentials even easier! Our Favorite Reusable Poncho! Frogg Toggs Poncho Umbrellas are great, but in those Florida storms, we found a rain poncho that we would totally buy again! When we put it on, the rain rolls right off thanks to this great material. It was also large enough that we were able to fit our backpack under it on our back and still feel comfortable! We felt protected under it but not too hot, which is essential in Florida. After the rain stopped, we were able to pack it in the waterproof pouch that comes with it and slip it back into our backpack without anything else getting wet. Frogg Togg Poncho We liked it so much during our test run that we packed it again the very next day! It was a great addition to our park bag, and we’re glad we got it. For being inexpensive, it was certainly durable and effective at keeping us dry. We will be bringing this with us into 2025. Get it for 35% off right now on Amazon too! View on Amazon The Best Way to Organize Our Park Bag! Loungefly Bag Organizer Loungefly bags are a beloved Disney parks bag option that we’ve used hundreds of times, but this new item changed the game for us! It’s a separate insert that has tons of pockets, slots, a zipper bag, and more to keep your bag organized, meaning you can sort and find things inside your bag a LOT easier than without one of these. ALL our stuff is organized now We love how we can just take the whole organizer out of our bag and put it in another one, transferring all of our items at once! No more leaving our phone charger behind in our old bag! We’ll be using this for years to come and we think you will too. View on Amazon These Kept Our Feet Dry All Day Long! Our reporters love them! These shoe covers we tried were great on really rainy days. Not only did we not have to worry about having wet shoes, they were lightweight and comfortable. We also appreciate these because it floods in Disney World. No, really, there are places in the parks that flood easily during big rain storms, and these kept us worry-free while we walked around. View on Amazon Our Trusty Portable Power Bank That You Can Swap Out! FuelRod We love our FuelRods. They are compact, and it comes with charging cord options. Our favorite part of this charger is that when it’s dead, you can swap it out for FREE at multiple locations around Disney World! That’s right, find any of the FuelRod kiosks and you can swap it out for a fully charged one. View on Amazon The Lightest Way To Charge Our Phone! INIU Portable Charger This is one of our favorite chargers on the market from a financial value standpoint. This wired charger is packed with power but thin enough to fit in a pocket, wallet, or fanny pack, which makes carrying it around the park much easier than some other bulky charger alternatives. It is the most cost-effective, power-packed wire charger we’ve tried. View on Amazon We Take These Reusable Utensils Everywhere! Reusable Utensils With all the snacks and food we eat at Disney World, we can highly recommend this reusable utensil set! We find ourselves using it often. Between EPCOT festivals and our normal go-to snacks, we love having these in our bags with us. It’s great to have them with us anytime we need them without having to hunt down the closest utensil stand in the parks. This will be staying with us next year. View on Amazon This Charged 3 of Our Devices at Once! MultiCharger for all your other devices too! The Kaizen multi-charger is a unique, compact charging adapter that has four USB-A plugs. These plugs are compatible with the MagicBand+ chargers that are provided with your MagicBands when you purchase them. This means that you can charge up to four MagicBand+ bands at a single outlet in your hotel room! This makes it easy to have everyone in your party charge their devices without having to hunt down enough outlets for everyone. View on Amazon This Mini Fan Saved Us This Summer! Jisulife Mini-fan This fan is not JUST a fan. It’s also a power bank, meaning that it’s also a charger for your phone or other devices. 6. Who’s ready for their wallets to be mad at them again? Creature Comforts The good news if you have a few weeks to prepare, but the bad news is that it lands right after the holiday season. We love visiting Starbucks in Disney World for our coffee fix if the line isn’t too long, and we have to admit that many of us especially love the holiday flavors, but the excitement doesn’t stop there. There’s a NEW Starbucks tumbler coming out in January and we’re already obsessed! DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. 7. Here at DFB, we’re not-so-secretly big fans of McDonald’s! McDonald’s at Disney World We love trying the limited-time menu items, checking out the Happy Meal toys, and looking out for any bizarre announcements from the fast food brand. And the most recent announcement from McDonald’s is definitely falling in the “unexpected” category. Pokémon GO and McDonald’s have announced a partnership in the United States. With this collaboration, Trainers will be able to visit Sponsored PokéStops or Gyms when visiting McDonald’s restaurants in the U.S. McDonald’s Trainers can “visit McDonald’s locations in the US during certain weeks to encounter Pokémon attracted by Lure Modules at McDonald’s PokéStops and participate in five-star raids at McDonald’s Gyms.” The Lure Modules and Raid Battles will be active during select weeks each day from 6PM-7PM. The selected weeks are as follows: Monday, December 16th, to Sunday, December 22nd, 2024 Monday, January 20th, to Sunday, January 26th, 2025 Monday, February 10th, to Sunday, February 16th, 2025 Monday, March 10th, to Sunday, March 16th, 2025 Happy Meal It sounds like McDonald’s locations might be getting a little busier during dinnertime in the coming months…that is, if there are really people out there who still play Pokémon GO? We remember it being a big trend back in 2016, but several people on our team were surprised to find out that it still exists. McDonald’s So we’ll have to wait and see if this offering truly does draw people to McDonald’s in the near future. We’ll keep you posted! 9. Is it time to give Experiment 626 a break? ©Amazon There’s no denying that Stitch is one of Disney’s most successful characters, especially of those created this millennium. He’s been featured in films, television shows, theme park attractions, and countless pieces of merchandise. But has it reached a point where it’s all too much? Stitch made his first appearance in 2002’s Lilo & Stitch. The character, who was voiced by his creator (and the film’s writer/director) Chris Sanders, immediately connected with audiences who appreciated the character’s journey from uncontrollable alien monster to finding his true Ohana. The film’s success immediately spring-boarded Stitch into the upper echelon of Disney characters. Over the next 15 years, the character would appear in 3 further direct-to-video films (2003’s Stitch! The Movie, 2005’s Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch, and 2006’s Leroy & Stitch) and 3 animated television projects: Lilo & Stitch: The Series, Stitch!, and Stitch & Ai. Lilo & Stitch VHS Notebook However, Stitch wasn’t only featured in animation. The character also quickly became a staple in Disney theme parks. In 2004, Stitch’s Great Escape! opened at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, replacing the ExtraTERRORestial Alien Encounter! That park also hosted the Stitch’s Supersonic Celebration stage show in 2009. ©Disney Stitch’s Great Escape Stitch also made his way to the company’s international parks, starring in the Stitch Encounter attraction at Hong Kong Disneyland (which closed in 2018), Tokyo Disneyland, and Shanghai Disneyland as well as a makeover of the classic Enchanted Tiki Room attraction entitled The Enchanted Tiki Room: Stitch Presents Aloha e Komo Mai! At Tokyo Disneyland. In addition, the character has had a large presence in parades and meet & greets. Elvis Stitch On top of all that, the character has been heavily merchandised, appearing on items across the spectrum of Disney souvenirs, including plushes, toys, clothing collectibles, statues, popcorn buckets, Funko Pops!, pins, and lithographs. Vampire Stitch Popcorn Bucket in Disneyland Despite this ubiquity, the character was not universally beloved, For example, Stitch’s Great Escape! Was often derisively called by many the worst ride in Disney World during its lifespan. Furthermore, as part of the promotion for the attraction in 2004, Disney staged a Stitch “takeover” of the Magic Kingdom, which saw the character cover Cinderella Castle is toilet paper and paint “STITCH IS KING” on the building. Yeah, it didn’t go over well. Yikes! And that brings us to our hot take: Maybe Stitch should be benched for a bit. Now, before anyone gets mad at us: We love Stitch. We love the character, and Lilo & Stitch ranks among the favorite Disney films of many on our team. However, his ubiquitous presence across Disney releases, events, and merchandise feels like overkill at times and the character taking a break may become a classic case of absence making the heart grow fonder. Unfortunately – – or thankfully, depending on your point of view, any benching of Stitch seems unlikely. In fact, the 2025 live-action Lilo & Stitch adaptation is likely setting up the character for his biggest push in years. ©Disney Stitch is one of Disney’s most popular characters, but we could argue that giving the character a break form the public eye may actually make him more beloved. 11. Here at DFB, we’re all about Disney FOOD! We are the Disney Food Blog, after all. Sanaa bread service We’re in the parks every single day bringing you the latest updates on souvenirs, rides, entertainment, and of course — food! Because we’re at Disney World so often, we tend to notice things that the average parkgoer might not, especially when it comes to the latest eats. That’s why we’re pretty confident that these will be the biggest Disney World food trends in 2025! Amazing Appetizers Appetizers are all the rage these days, and with Disney adding so many new lounges to its lineup in 2025, we’re predicting that the small bite count in the parks is only going to increase — which we’re certainly not mad about. More bread service? Yes, please. More dips? Bring it on. More cheesy, carby, garlicky goodness? We thought you’d never ask. Sanaa Bread Service We’re hoping that we’ll get to enjoy plenty of tropical and Caribbean-inspired eats at the new Pirates of the Caribbean lounge coming to Magic Kingdom (Maybe some coconut shrimp?!) and we can’t wait to see what sort of fun bites and brews are available at the Spaceship Earth lounge opening in EPCOT next year, too! Why is Disney World Opening Two Lounges…and No Restaurants…in 2025? Fun Flights We’re starting to see more and more drink flights pop up around the parks — and not just beer flights, either! There are the iconic martini and margarita flights at the Hollywood Brown Derby in Hollywood Studios, sangria flights at Three Bridges Bar & Grill at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, and even specialty flights that we see from time to time at spots like Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar in Disney Springs and more. Sangria Flight & Mexican Street Corn Dip We LOVE having flights as an option because they allow you to try multiple different drinks you might be interested in without having to order a full-sized version. Plus, they’re fun to split amongst friends or your dining party! More Mocktails Say it with us now, “More mocktails in Disney World!” Okay, great. And now, say, “But don’t make them all with lemonade, please!” If you’re someone who likes to imbibe in the occasional mocktail when you’re spending time in Disney World, but are over the fact that they all seem to be lemonade-based, we think 2025 may be your year. Pirna Prix Mocktail at EPCOT in Disney World We’re hoping that we see a trend of not only more mocktails around the parks and hotels, but ones that aren’t only made with lemonade and some other sweet syrup for a sugar overload. We’re calling it now, 2025 is the year of the (actually good) mocktails in Disney World! Bonus Breakfast We’re big fans of breakfast — but sometimes it can be hard to find in Disney World depending on what you’re looking for. Recently, we saw the return of breakfast at Satu’li Canteen in Animal Kingdom (which we were THRILLED about!) along with several different breakfast offerings pop up at various quick service spots throughout the parks. Full spread Does this mean we’ll be in for a breakfast boom in Disney World in 2025? We don’t know yet, but we’re excited to find out! In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for the latest updates you need to know from Disney World. Don’t forget to stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog so you don’t miss any important announcements and news! 12. The Walt Disney Company is no stranger to lawsuits. Walt Disney Studios We recently saw Disney dish out $9.5 million to Disneyland Magic Key Passholders after settling a lawsuit, and there’s another wrongful death lawsuit Disney is involved with due to a possible allergy-related death at Disney World. It’s something that businesses like Disney deal with all the time, but this time, the latest string of lawsuits has come from the House of Mouse itself. Walt Disney Parks and Resorts filed 13 lawsuits against Orange County Property Appraiser Amy Mercado on December 13th, according to the Orlando Business Journal. The suits allege that she has “significantly inflated” the value of Disney’s properties for the 2024 tax year. Similar lawsuits have been filed by several other local properties including Universal Orlando Resort against Mercado, though the cases are unrelated. Magic Kingdom While Mercado is the main defendant named in the lawsuits, Orange County Tax Collector Scott Randolph and Executive Director Jim Zingale from the Florida Department of Revenue have also been named as defendants. Each filing covered multiple Disney properties including theme parks, resorts, administrative areas, and more. Spaceship Earth The cases will be heard in the Ninth Judicial Circuit of Florida and could pose a significant challenge to the county’s property tax system as it pertains to local government funding — especially for local public schools. This isn’t the first time Disney has filed suits like this, as others have been filed in the past for similar reasons. Disney’s Animal Kingdom A September 23rd ruling from appellate Judge Thomas Turner ended an eight-year legal battle after the judge ruled in favor of Disney in a Yacht & Beach Club property assessment case. In his ruling, Judge Turner said, “The appraiser substantially increased the amount of Disney’s tax bill by unlawfully including value attributable to Disney’s intangible property.” Stormalong Bay Kevin Roe, an attorney who specializes in property tax challenges in New York, said the judge essentially rejected the “Rushmore Approach” to valuation. According to the Journal, “The controversial method includes income from operations (like restaurants and merchandise shops) in the valuation.” Pop Century Disney’s filings lay out its case by individual property, which combined, were assessed at just under $3 billion. The company was required to pay property taxes of more than $98 million in 2024, court records show. Disney is requesting a resolution similar to the decision made by Turner earlier this year. But, the judges who hear these new cases will not be able to use Turner’s logic, as his decision has been appealed and since gone to mediation. Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa As far as other local property tax cases are concerned, here are just some of the hotels involved: The Hard Rock Hotel, Loews Royal Pacific Resort and Loews Portofino Bay Hotel — three Universal Orlando Resort hotels: The three hotels were assessed in 2021 at a combined $467.5 million, with total property taxes paid at more than $3.5 million. Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek and Waldorf Astoria Orlando: The two hotels were assessed in 2021 at almost $300 million, with total property taxes paid at $4.7 million. Renaissance Orlando at SeaWorld: The hotel was assessed in 2023 at $136.8 million, with total property taxes paid at almost $2.3 million JW Marriott and Ritz-Carlton Grande Lakes: The two hotels were assessed in 2022 at a combined $415.2 million, with total property taxes paid at $6.5 million. Rosen Shingle Creek Resort: The hotel was assessed in 2022 at $227.7 million, with total property taxes due at over $3.6 million. Marriott World Center: The hotel was assessed in 2022 at $317.6 million, with total property taxes due at over $5 million. Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin: The two properties in 2022 were assessed at a combined $433.8 million, and the property’s due taxes came in at around $12.2 million. The BoardWalk Inn is a Deluxe Resort We’ll continue to monitor this situation as the suits were just filed and updates are sure to follow. 14. Dole Whip is a Disney World staple! DOLE Whip is a must on your Disney trip. There are so many favorites we obsess over like Casey’s Corn Dog Nuggets, the Cheshire Cat Tail, and annual seasonal treats. No matter how many treats we try and love though we keep coming back to that classic pineapple ice cream and we just found the best place to get it in Disney World! If you haven’t heard, Disney is opening a brand new hotel building called the Island Tower as a new Disney Vacation Club property connected to the Polynesian Village Resort! Island Tower Island Tower opens on December 17th and we have already gotten some exciting looks inside. Along with the new hotel rooms, you can find new dining options, new pools, and new places to explore all while being right next to Magic Kingdom. Another thing you can find at this resort? Dole Whip! Welcome to Wailulu Bar & Grill! If you head over to the brand new Wailulu Bar and Grill, you’re going to find what we think is the best spot to grab Dole Whip in Disney World! This new menu features a Dole Whip Sundae with Hibiscus Meringue, Macerated Pineapple, and Berries. ©Disney Now this might not be your run-of-the-mill Dole Whip but what makes this the best spot? You can order it at a sit-down restaurant and have it brought to you! Traditionally you can only grab Dole Whip at walk-up stands like Aloha Isle in Magic Kingdom which isn’t a huge issue but if you’ve ever tried to find a seat in a crowded theme park while is 98 degrees with ice cream dripping down your hand, you’ll know it’s not the most fun experience. Aloha Isle Refreshments Having your Dole Whip brought to you might be a true luxury experience we didn’t know we were missing! Not only do they bring it to you (along with some other great Hawaiian-inspired cuisine if you want), you don’t have to have a park ticket to enjoy this cold treat. Previously, the only other spot to grab it without a theme park ticket was Pineapple Lanai at the Polynesian and Good’s Food to Go at Old Key West seasonally. Pineapple Lanai We are so excited to know we can get our favorite dessert in another location! Don’t forget to keep following along with DisneyFoodBlog for all of your Disney snack updates. 15. When it comes to great theme park eats, Disney’s World’s EPCOT is the place to be! EPCOT EPCOT is known for being a paradise for foodies. Featuring the famous World Showcase and its 11 pavilions full of unique and interesting dining options, as well as four seasonal festivals, EPCOT offers incredible food to match its outstanding attractions. However, not every EPCOT restaurant is equal and one in particular may not be worth its high prices. EPCOT offers so many dining options for every budget, but one of its most unique restaurants doesn’t pull its punches regarding cost. Unfortunately, the dining quality may not match its price. Space 220 Space 220 is a futuristic restaurant in World Discovery that takes guests on a dining adventure 220 miles above EPCOT. The whole experience, on paper, is out of this world. Guests board the “Stellavator” (elevator) that simulates real-time rocketing into orbit where you’ll wave goodbye to Disney World before reaching the Centauri Space Station. Space 220 elevator Once there, you’ll get daytime and nighttime views of Earth as you’re surrounded by a full panoramic view of space. Those views are COOL, though! The actual experience is pretty cool! However, there are some complaints about the meal. The restaurant offers a multi-course, prix fixe menu (with two courses for lunch and three for dinner) featuring upscale dishes. Look! We’re dining IN SPACE! In our review, we like the unique flavors, textures, and colors and felt there was a healthy variety of options to choose from. However, for $79 per adult for dinner and $55 per adult for lunch (dessert is included at dinner), we’ve been left disappointed. Space 220 Dinner Spread The food is good but not outstanding, and the drinks are creative, but they cost extra and most are exceptionally sweet. Overall, the dining quality is pretty average, which falls in line with a few other Disney World restaurants where you’re paying more for the experience rather than the food. Here are the desserts! You’re paying for the view out the windows, the theming, and the space elevator “ride”, so whether or not it’s worth it really comes down to you. We say this is worth doing once to say you’ve done it, but, at the present, it can be skipped during you’re EPCOT visits. Space 220 Menu If you want the Space 220 experience without the prices, try the lounge, which offers small bites and drinks, offering a more stomachable value! Space 220 Lounge If you don’t mind dropping some dough but want quality that matches, check out Chefs de France in the France pavilion! Chefs de France This French restaurant is still expensive and has a nearly $68 prix fixe option, but it’s just that — an option. You can opt for entrées between $25 and $50, as well as reasonably priced appetizers, drinks, and desserts. Chefs de France The cuisine here is excellent, and while it’s more expensive than many other offerings in EPCOT, we think it’s worth it. Not only is it one of the best dining experiences in EPCOT, it’s one of the best restaurants at Disney World, as well. Filet de saumon The food here is consistently great, which is miraculous for a theme park dining experience. With menu items inspired by the French Brasseries Bocuse including classic onion soup, charcuterie, filet de saumon, ratatouille, boeuf bourguignon, and crème brulée, we can’t recommend Chefs de France enough! 16. We recemtly set sail on Disney’s NEW cruise ship, the Disney Treasure! The Disney Treasure Atrium This ship takes its maiden voyage in a few days and before its launch, we hopped aboard and checked out the dining offerings, the staterooms, the entertainment, and more. But one of the coolest things we got to see was a sneak peek at the crew areas! When you’re on the third floor of the ship near the gift shops, be sure to look out for some stunning pieces of Disney Treasure artwork! As you make your way toward the Walt Disney Theater, you should find this cross-section painting of the boat. Not only is it gorgeous, but it also shows a sneak peek at the crew areas on the ship! Sneak peek into crew areas! Some of the artwork shows off the crew member cabins, while other pieces show backstage areas for recreation. It’s so neat to see a glimpse into the spaces on the ship where us regular people aren’t allowed to visit. Cabins Near the bottom of the ship, you can also see the engine rooms with the equipment required for keeping the ship going! Engine rooms The crew members also have their own gym space, located below the lounge areas and kids’ club. Gotta stay fit somehow when you’re out at sea! Crew areas Underneath the theater, there are dressing rooms and storage spaces for the performers. Disney Cruise Line is known for its spectacular Broadway-style shows, so those singers and dancers need to have their warm-up spaces! Dressing rooms And of course, we can’t forget about places to eat! One section of the artwork shows a crew kitchen, as well as what looks to be a buffet dining area. Dining areas There are also a few spaces for relaxation, including rooms with tables or squashy chairs. They’ve gotta have somewhere to enjoy the onboard eats! Lounge spaces One room even looks to be a crew member bar or lounge. How fun! It looks like these guys are getting to enjoy some of the same fun that guests can have onboard, even if it’s in a more limited capacity since they’re at work. How fascinating! A bar! 17. Listen, we know your next Disney World vacation is coming up, and we want you to know that we’ve got your back when it comes to savings! Magic Kingdom Since planning a vacation to Disney World vacation can be rather expensive, we’re always keeping a close eye out for any discounts and deals that can help you maximize your budget! That being said, when you’re looking into booking one of those special offers, there are a couple of dates that you need to avoid at all costs when booking your Disney World hotel! As we were saying, when you’re planning a Disney World vacation, you’re probably scouring the internet for the best deals to save some cash while still having the time of your life, right? Well, Disney often has a number of promotions for tickets, hotel stays, and more, but here’s the thing no one tells you: blockout dates can totally wreck your plans. If you’re not paying attention to these pesky blackout periods, you could end up spending way more money than you expected or even missing out on those magical savings altogether. We’ve spotted a couple that are coming up, so let’s go over them, so you can steer clear of a booking disaster. What Are Blockout Dates, Anyway? Blockout dates are these specific periods when certain promotions or special offers don’t apply. Now, Disney doesn’t hide this info, but it’s not exactly front and center when you’re dreaming about that castle view at sunset. For example, you might find an amazing deal on theme park tickets or a hotel stay, only to realize later that your vacation dates fall smack in the middle of a blockout period. ©Disney And trust me on this, Disney blockout dates aren’t random. They usually line up with peak travel times like spring break, summer holidays, or Thanksgiving. That all means that those are the times when Disney is already expecting big crowds, so they’re not as likely to offer discounts or promotions. Why Those Blockout Dates Matter If you’re not careful, blockout dates can lead to two big problems: Your Vacation Isn’t Eligible for the Deal: Imagine booking a hotel stay with dreams of using that sweet “special rate” offer, only to find out you’re visiting during a blocked-out week. Now you’re either paying full price or scrambling to adjust your dates. Your Budget Gets Blown: Those promos can make a huge difference when planning a Disney trip. Without them, your trip might cost hundreds or even thousands more than you budgeted. Some Current Disney Deals and Their Blockout Dates Let’s take a closer look at some of Disney’s current offers and their blockout dates. These are the ones you’ll need to avoid if you want to maximize your savings. Take the Plunge with a Disney Water Park Seasonal Pass! Enjoy Visit After Visit Through May 23, 2025—Just $79 Per Pass, Plus Tax This is a killer deal if you love spending time at Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach. It’s valid for multiple visits through May 23rd, 2025, but here’s the catch: Blockout Dates: April 12th–April 20th, 2025. If you’re planning a spring getaway, double-check those dates so you don’t buy a pass you can’t use during your trip. ©Disney US Military Members: Enjoy Specially Priced Theme Park Tickets in 2025 This offer is a big perk for military families, with discounts on tickets for visits anytime from January 1st, 2025, to December 19th, 2025. But there are a few weeks you’ll need to avoid: Blockout Dates: April 13–April 26, 2025 (spring break season). November 23–November 29, 2025 (Thanksgiving week). If you were eyeing a spring or Thanksgiving trip, these dates won’t qualify for the deal. ©Disney How to Avoid Blockout Drama Here are a couple of the things you can do to help you avoid any of those blockout dates drama: Read the Fine Print: When you’re looking at a special offer, don’t just get caught up in the headline. Scroll down and read all the terms and conditions, including those blockout dates. Plan Your Trip Around the Offers: If you’re trying to save money, it’s worth shifting your dates to fall outside of the blocked-out periods. A little flexibility can go a long way. Book Early: If you’ve got your heart set on a specific deal, book your trip as soon as you can. Promotions can sell out quickly, especially on dates that aren’t blocked. Double-Check Your Plans: Before you hit “confirm” on your hotel or ticket purchase, triple-check that your chosen dates work with any offers you’re using. Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa At the end of the day, don’t let your dream vacation turn into a financial headache. 18. This has been the year of BIG Disney World announcements. The newly announced Lakeshore Lodge ©Disney We finally got more details about the DinoLand, U.S.A. replacement in Animal Kingdom. We learned about a Monsters, Inc. land coming to Hollywood Studios. Magic Kingdom is getting a huge Cars expansion PLUS a Villains-themed land (FINALLY). Disney has NOT been playing around. We also found out about a project that we thought was shelved that has been resurrected: a project now called Lakeshore Lodge. We asked you, our readers, what you thought about it, and you told us! Here’s a little background on Lakeshore Lodge. This new hotel will be located in the same location — the former location of Disney’s River Country water park — that the previously announced Reflections — A Disney Lakeside Lodge Resort was supposed to be built. Reflections was originally announced in 2019, but construction was halted on it after Disney World’s closure in 2020 due to the global health crisis. Reflections concept art ©Disney Lakeshore Lodge will be “inspired by the majesty of nature and its enduring influence on Disney artists” and is expected to open in 2027. The concept art looks a lot like the previous concept art we saw for Reflections. However, when you zoom in on the concept art, you can really see all these nature details, including characters from Bambi! ©Disney We asked you, our DFB Readers, what you thought about this new hotel, and we got some varied responses to say the least. Several readers were happy about the new announcement, including reader Jeni who was glad to see the plans resurrected and reader Shawn who said the announcement was “good for us DVC members!” Disney’s River Country, the former water park on the site ©Disney However, not everyone was so positive. Reader Leigha lamented that Disney is opening yet another DVC resort, writing “Another DVC resort – when will we get another value or moderate resort?” while reader Barb took the opportunity to rail against the modern DVC system overall. They wrote, “Yawn. DVC, once upon a time was $11, 000 with no “home resort” or limited amount of time you could stay. Then Disney got greedy, put limits on time you could stay, jacked up the cost and added the “points” system. Back then you owned it for 99 years then it automatically reverted back to Disney. No forever in the family.” ©Disney Vacation Club Finally, reader Jamie seemed to play things down the middle. They said they’d “love to see what it’s like” but “until it’s walking distance to Epcot” they’d “keep staying at Beach Club.” Can’t argue with someone who knows what they like! Beach Club We’ll be keeping an eye out for more information about Lakeshore Lodge, so stay tuned to DFB for more. If you’d like to participate in these discussions, be sure to follow us on Facebook. 19. This could be a big damper on your Disney vacation! Spaceship Earth Disney is constantly changing with major updates like the Test Track Refurbishment, the impending end of DinoLand, U.S.A. and the upcoming Monsters, Inc. Land! While these are all major changes to expect soon on your Disney vacation, there’s one refurbishment that might impact you right now. Looking to plan a Disney World vacation? We highly recommend reaching out to our friends at Small World Vacations! If you’re staying at Disney’s Port Orleans – French Quarter resort any time soon, you’re going to want to read this. Starting today, December 16th, the Doubloon Lagoon Pool will be closed for refurbishment until December 21st. Port Orleans French Quarter This might not seem like a big deal but if you’ve scheduled a day of snacking on beignets, listening to jazz, and relaxing by the pool this might throw a wrench in your plans. The Doubloon Lagoon pool is where guests can party like it’s Mardi Gras every day with a 51 foot long slide into the pool so it tends to be the perfect spot for families while taking a break from the parks. Unless you’re staying there before December 21st that is! It’s 51 feet long! If you’re staying here this week, not to worry! You can still access the leisure pools at Port Orleans – French Quarter and Port Orleans – Riverside but you will still be missing out on that lovely sea serpent slide. If you and your crew decide the slides are a necessity, you can head over to Ol’ Man Island at Riverside. Ol’ Man Island at Port Orleans — Riverside Ol’ Man Island has a 95 foot, rustic water slide, pool bar, and playground so if you make the trek over you’ll find plenty to enjoy. If that walk isn’t for you, luckily those alligators will be playing with the band again in a few days over at French Quarter. Looks relaxing! Don’t forget to always check the refurbishment calendar before heading on your trip to Orlando so you will know what to expect well before you arrive. 20. Well, some things are going to be changing in Hollywood Studios soon. Muppets Courtyard Yes, a new Villains-themed show is coming to the park, but the bigger project will be a brand new Monsters, Inc. land that will be taking over Muppets Courtyard, meaning the closure of Muppet*Vision 3D. However, Disney did reveal that it has plans to bring the Muppets to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, but that’s not going to be ideal for a lot of people (especially those who will mourn Muppet*Vision 3D as Jim Henson’s last project). So here are some problems we see with the new Muppets Coaster coming to Hollywood Studios. There will be ride requirements One of the best things about Muppet*Vision 3D is that there are no ride requirements. It’s just a show (an AWESOME show, we think), so just about anyone can come into the theater to view it. However, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster has a height requirement of 48 inches, which means younger kids will not get a chance to experience it. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster has a height requirement It’s also a thrill ride and comes with the usual thrill ride health warnings that could keep others from being able to experience the ride, too. So unlike Muppet*Vision 3D, an attraction that was made for everyone, the Muppets Coaster will limit who can ride it. Mike Wazowski Is Officially Kicking Kermit Out of Muppets Courtyard in Disney World. Here’s What the Internet Had To Say About It. Most of the queue is outdoors We don’t expect Disney to make BIG changes to the basic structure of the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster building and ride, so we expect that one of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster’s biggest issues, a queue that is mostly outdoors, will still be a problem. On those rare nice weather days, it’s not a biggie, but in the summer when the heat and humidity are THROUGH THE ROOF, YUCK. No one wants to stand outside for a long time. Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster entrance This is also a problem when those random rainstorms pop up in Disney World. You’re going to get soaked if you’re waiting for the ride if that happens. When is Muppets Courtyard Closing in Disney World? We don’t know what bands will make the cut Disney mentioned in its announcement about the coaster that the Muppets would be teaming up with “music’s biggest stars for a rockin’ music festival.” So who will these bands or rock stars be? It’s not like modern music is bursting with huge rock stars right now. Today’s biggest music artists aren’t generally in the rock genre. ©Disney Don’t get us wrong — we’d love a Taylor Swift and Muppets duo on “We Are Never Getting Back Together.” But what will actually classify as rock enough for the new ride? Are we looking at classic rock (potentially alienating younger audiences) or what? Aerosmith was 100% rock ‘n’ roll, hence the name of the coaster. Well, that’s not our problem to figure out, but Disney will have to ask itself some serious musical questions. “If They Don’t Have Rainbow Connection I Will Cry.” Disney Fans Have 10 Demands for Disney’s New Muppets Coaster Single rider line doesn’t work If you’ve ever tried to do single rider on Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, you’d probably know it’s a complete waste of time. Nearly every time we’ve been in the single rider line, we’ve waited LONGER than what we would have waited if we’d been in the standby line. Single rider entrance at Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster That’s not how single rider is supposed to work. But on Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, it just doesn’t work the way it’s supposed to. It will probably still go down a lot If Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is any indication, the NEW Muppets Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster will probably still go down and be closed as much as the original ride. We’ve seen situations where the ride has been down for DAYS. We don’t expect any major ride improvements to be made to fix the issues that cause technical problems, so the new ride will still require a lot of patience. We see this A LOT As we said, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is a good example of this. Splash Mountain was notorious for its downtime. Even after it was re-opened as Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, it still struggles to remain open. So that’s going to be an issue we don’t expect to get fixed with Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. “This Is Not What We Asked For”: Disney’s Permanent Closure of Muppet Vision 3D Is Causing a LOT of Controversy Although the Muppets coaster will technically be a new attraction, it will still bring a lot of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster’s current baggage with it. 21. How far will you go to hear a “secret” Moana song? ©Disney Often, Disney’s animated musical films have songs that end up on the cutting room floor for one reason or another. Some of these songs aren’t seen as “up to snuff” compared to the others written for the film, while others are just as good as the songs that become classics but are cut for time or plot reasons, only to be resurrected in later versions. For example, “Proud of Your Boy” and “Human Again” were cut from Aladdin and Beauty & The Beast respectively, but both songs were restored for their respective Broadway interpretations and various special soundtrack and home media releases. Now, a mostly unheard Moana song has found a second life in an unexpected place. When the Moana soundtrack was first released back in 2016, the deluxe edition featured several outtakes from the film’s songwriter Lin Manuel Miranda. One of these tracks, “Warrior Face” gained a bit of renown online as the demo recording featured performances from Christopher Jackson and Phillipa Soo, who respectively portrayed George Washington and Eliza Schuyler in Miranda’s Hamilton. Fast forward to 2024, and “Warrior Face” has been restored to the version of Moana performed on the Disney Cruise Line’s latest ship, the Disney Treasure. The song is performed by Maui and Moana herself in the show. ©Disney Disney The Tale of Moana, performed in the ship’s Walt Disney Theatre takes audience members on a “deep dive” into the story of Moana, and features “vibrant dance and songs in a mix of languages, including Tuvaluan, Tokelauan and Samoan.” How Far I’ll Go A “lost” song has been restored to Moana for the live adaptation of the film that’s staged on the Disney Treasure, beginning with the ship’s December 21st maiden voyage. 23. Planning a Disney World trip isn’t for the faint of heart. In fact, it’s why we do what we do here at DFB! EPCOT monorail There are just SO many moving parts you need to keep track of — where are you staying and which parks will you go to? Where will you make your dining reservations? Do you think you’ll need Lightning Lane Multi Pass or Single Pass? Not to mention keeping up with the park calendar so you know about any odd opening or closing hours… and folks heading to EPCOT in February should do just that! Heads up, EPCOT-ians! EPCOT will have a late start to the day on February 23rd and will open up an hour later than normal — at 10AM. EPCOT’s World Showcase This is likely due to the fact that the runDisney Princess Half Marathon is taking place that weekend, which means racers will be running through the park early that morning! The runDisney 2025 Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend will take place from February 20th to 24th, 2025, so keep that in mind if you’re still thinking about potentially planning a trip during those dates. ©runDisney This year’s Princess Half Marathon Weekend includes three races — a Mulan-themed 5K, a Jasmine-themed 10K, and an Aurora-themed half marathon. Those interested in taking on all three races can try the Fairytale Challenge, which is Snow White-themed this year. ©Disney But, if you’ve already got plans for Disney World that weekend or are still thinking about making some — we do need to warn you! Race weekends are typically a bit more crowded in the parks, especially those that are particularly popular like the Princess Half Marathon Weekend. Expect heavy crowds during the day, especially in EPCOT (which seems to get the most attention on race weekends). If you’re traveling that weekend, you might want to go ahead and book your accommodations now!
