  2. Some BIG things are happening in Disney World right now, especially in Magic Kingdom. Magic Kingdom Disney is getting ready to change the very FACE of Magic Kingdom by getting rid of the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island to add a new Cars expansion to Frontierland. However, there are also plans to add a brand new Villains-themed land to Magic Kingdom. Ahead of all the work that needs to be done, we recently spotted some land clearing happening near Magic Kingdom. Now, we know Disney is moving ahead with the Cars expansion, but the company isn’t QUITE ready just yet to start actually building it. Most recently, Disney requested an extension to answer some questions on a permit about an area where it wants to build a treatment facility for stormwater drained from the area. That extension was granted, but Disney cannot continue with the work until the permit is approved. The initial permit mentioned Rivers of America, so that permit is likely for the Cars expansion. Rivers of America However, ahead of that permit’s approval, we spotted some land being cleared just west of Magic Kingdom, potentially for some roadway changes that also need to happen at the resort that may or may not be connected to the expansion. Note that Disney will also need land for staging areas before it starts the Magic Kingdom expansions, too. A LOT goes into these things, people! Anyway, here’s what we spotted near Maple Road and Floridian Parkway. This is a little over a mile from Magic Kingdom. Some trees have been felled Here’s what we spotted near Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, which is nearby (and close to Magic Kingdom). You can actually see the Polynesian in the background in this photo. We’re not sure what’s going on here, but this land is being cleared for SOMETHING. Land clearing near Polynesian We’ll keep an eye out for more construction and updates in Disney World, so stay tuned to DFB for more. 5 Game-Changing Updates Announced for Magic Kingdom in 2025 Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! 4. Disneyland Paris is currently undergoing a massive transformation at their second park. An aerial look at the future of Walt Disney Studios Park, to be renamed to Disney Adventure World in 2026. @Disney Currently named Walt Disney Studios Park, this park will be renamed Disney Adventure World when their huge expansion opens in 2026, which will include World of Frozen and a new Lion King Land. However, this isn’t the only area of the park currently under construction — right now, when you enter the park, you’ll notice that everything is behind walls as it’s overhauled, but now we have some concept art to show us what the new entrance will look like! Previously, guests would enter Walt Disney Studios Park and walk through Disney Studio 1, a soundstage. However, the new design of the area will be called World Premiere, which will bring “crafted décor, refurbished spaces and a brand-new story paying homage to historic movie theaters in Hollywood and the entertainment industry as a whole” according to Disney. This newly reimagined area will have the real feel of Hollywood with the iconic stars on the ground, palm trees, and familiar architecture seen in Los Angeles, including the iconic Animation Building at Walt Disney Studios Burbank. Additionally, many nods to Los Angeles, Disney, and other park experiences will be hidden in the details, especially in the projection skyline that will serve as the backdrop to the area. ©Disney The facade of the Disney Theater will be at the end of the area, encouraging guests to walk through to continue to explore Disney Adventure World. You’ll also be able to dine at The Hollywood Gardens Restaurant for a quick service meal, grab a snack or drink at the Searchlight kiosk, or shop to your heart’s content at the Mickey’s of Hollywood Boutique, which will be reminiscent of American department stores from the 1920s. ©Disney This addition is planned to be open in Spring 2025, and we can’t wait to see what it looks like fully completed! 5. Walt Disney has fascinated many Americans for decades. ©Disney His life has certainly been well documented, and there are countless historic photos of Walt and his work preserved in company and family archives, as well as in Museums. And let’s not forget about news organizations who covered Walt throughout his life. Now, the New York Times has quite literally uncovered a lost photo of Walt Disney. The New York Times just revealed the photo, which features composer Igor Stravinsky — whose work was used in the classic Disney movie Fantasia. According to the Times, the archivist who manages the newspapers’ “morgue” of old photos and newspaper clippings was looking through Stravinsky’s file when he found a photo of the composer. Stravinsky was on the right side of the photo, and the left side of the photo was covered with gray paint. The paint was wiped away, and voila! — there sat Walt Disney. ©New York Times As the Times explained, it appears Walt was “cropped out” of the photo with the paint, so that it could be used as just a photo of Stravinsky. The date the photo was taken is unknown, but it was published in the Times at least three times between 1948 and 1965. We loved seeing this little piece of history that may have never been seen before, and we hope you do! For more on this photo, check out the complete story in the Times. 6. One of the hardest things about travel days is dealing with airport security. Orlando International Airport This is especially true if you’re flying out of a massive airport like Orlando International Airport (MCO) because lines can easily be half an hour to an hour long during busy times, and if you haven’t planned well enough, it could cause you to miss your flight! However, there’s a FREE way you can skip the security line at MCO, but heads up — it’s MOVED in the airport! We absolutely love that at MCO, you can use MCO Reserve to completely bypass the security line for FREE! How this works is you hop online to MCO Reserve’s website, input your flight information and when you’ll be arriving at security, and you’ll receive confirmation allowing you to arrive at MCO Reserve during a certain period of time to go through security with NO line! It’s essentially like reserving your spot in line ahead of time and scheduling it, so they know to expect you, and it’s incredible. ©Orlando International Airport However, this service isn’t available to those who already have paid to skip the lines at airports with TSA Pre-Check and CLEAR+. While MCO Reserve is open from 5AM to 5PM, your flight is eligible if you’re taking off between 6:30AM and 8:30PM. ©MCO Reserve If you’re planning to use this service flying out of MCO soon, we have to tell you that Gates 1-59 have now MOVED in the airport for the time being! They’re now located to the Terminal A entrance area instead of the B side of the Checkpoint. Looking for more recent travel news? Check out our posts below! More Recent Travel News! 7. I love it when my two favorite things come together. First, I’m a Disney Parks fan and try to visit every chance I can (and when my budget allows). But I also LOVE Star Wars, which means when I’m headed to Disney World or Disneyland, I’m going to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge FIRST. ©Disney That also means multiple rides on Star Tours, at least until I finally get chosen as the Rebel Spy (y’all, I literally dressed up as Jyn Erso and STILL didn’t get to be the Rebel Spy, so I have NO idea how that works, but tell Disney I really really want that honor, please?). Okay, I digress…I also love the new Star Wars shows that we’ve been getting on Disney+, including the latest series Skeleton Crew. But the best part of Skeleton Crew is that it has obviously been created by people who love Disney, specifically Disney Parks. That means you’ll find TONS of Disney Parks Easter Eggs in each episode — and I AM HERE FOR IT. The showrunners also loved it. Collins said, “Jon Watts and Chris Ford loved it. And I was just, so happy that we got to put that in the mix.” Me, too! ME, TOO! Starspeeder The third episode of Skeleton Crew included yet ANOTHER nod to Star Tours. The Starspeeder 1000 spaceship FROM Star Tours can be seen onscreen during a scene in that episode. Star Tours You’ll spot the Starspeeder in the scene where the kids are rushing to get away from Port Borgo. There are some exterior shots of the kids’ ship surrounded by other ships, including a small orange Starspeeder 1000 flying by. It’s a blink-and-you-miss-it kind of moment, but it’s there. Blink and you’ll miss it! Okay, yes, someone loves Star Tours (and we love them for giving us all these Star Tours Easter Eggs). Y’all — this is just the TIP of the iceberg of Disney and Star Wars Easter Eggs you’ll find by watching the show. For example, the droid on the pirate ship the kids end up on is SM-33, as in SMEE. There’s even a nod to the Holiday Special, which quite literally made me pause the episode to rewind it to look at it again. There are also a ton onf nods to other Star Wars properties. Quite literally, this show is a love letter to Star Wars fans. I can’t wait to see what future episodes have in store for us. Stay tuned to DFB for more. 8. Staying at a Disney World hotel has many different perks. Disney’s BoardWalk Inn You’ve got free transportation to and from the Disney World parks, Early Entry to any of the four parks every day, and Extended Evening Hours on select nights if you’re staying at a Deluxe Resort. Another perk you can take advantage of is Resort Refillable Mugs, which are only available to those staying at a Disney World Hotel for an additional fee. But is anyone still using this perk, or are they just sitting there? What are Resort Refillable Mugs, you may be asking. These are reusable mugs that can be purchased for $22.99 per tax (they saw a price increase in October this year, which is a bummer, and we typically see one every year) and allow you to get FREE refills of coffee, soda, or tea at your hotel throughout your whole stay! Refillable Mug One mug is included for each person if you’ve purchased the Disney Dining Plan for your trip (which can only be purchased if you’re staying at a Disney World hotel), but otherwise, they can be bought individually. These mugs use what’s called the Rapid Fill program, which means that for the duration of your stay, they will be active at any soda/coffee/tea refill location around Disney World hotels. However, once your stay comes to an end, the cups will no longer work — even if you return to the same hotel for a trip in the future. Refillable mugs at Vero Beach And yes, you heard us right — these mugs can ONLY be used around Disney World hotels. They cannot be used in the parks (unless you’d like to bring it with you and pour a drink you’ve purchased in there, which you certainly can do) for free refills, and many people buy these cups without realizing that fact. If you’re not spending a lot of time at your hotel, you forget to fill it up in the morning and at night before and after returning from the park, or you don’t drink a lot of soda/coffee/tea, it’s often not a great purchase. Resort Refillable Mug These can make great souvenirs, as you can certainly use them at home for whatever drinks you’d like, or bring them with you on future Disney World trips and pour purchased drinks into them, so if you think you’ll make a lot of use of it at home too, then we say go for it! However, otherwise we recommend using a more solidly insulated reusable water bottle around Disney World if you’re just looking for something to carry around the park with you to keep you hydrated. Self-service Beverage Station It’s also important to keep in mind that many of these drink refill stations are located at Disney World hotel restaurants, which are not open 24/7! Therefore, if you’re leaving super early in the morning or coming back from the park late at night and the restaurant isn’t open, it’s near impossible to make use of your refillable mug. However, some pool bars around Disney World hotels have 24/7 drink refill stations, and other resorts, including The Market at Ale & Compass (at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort), and Primo Piatto at Disney’s Riviera Resort, feature Coke Freestyle machines! Refillable mug and drink Station at Drop Off Pool Bar at Disney’s Pop Century The decision whether or not a Resort Refillable Mug is worth it is totally dependant on what group you’re traveling with — if you drink a lot of the beverages included and feel you’d get lots of use out of it, then go for it! Otherwise, if you mostly drink water or only get a soda here and there, it likely will feel like a waste. As always, stay tuned to DFB for all the latest Disney World news, tips, and tricks! 9. Disney World’s newest hotel tower, Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, opens in just a few days, but we recently got a chance to see it EARLY. Island Tower We had the opportunity to step inside the hotel and check out its gorgeous lobby, as well as visit a variety of room types. We also spent some time chilling out in the Terrace Gardens, as well as check out some of the food from the tower’s new restaurant, Wailulu Bar & Grill. But there was one thing that struck us as odd when we first stepped inside the new expansion: something BIG is missing from this hotel. When we visited the lobby of Island Tower, we looked all over and realized that there isn’t a typical hotel check-in desk. Like NONE. Nada. NOTHING. So if you’re staying here, how are you supposed to check in? We are perplexed! Lobby Well, obviously, you can always do Mobile Check-in on the My Disney Experience app, but if you need help, there are Cast Members in the lobby who can help you with anything you might need, including checking in and room requests, as well as help you with any issues you might have with your room. Overview of the lobby This is also not a case of Disney just not having put in a check-in desk yet at the hotel. We spoke to a Cast Member who told us that there are no plans to add an official check-in desk. So, yes, this is all part of Disney’s plans for the hotel. Maybe it has something to do with keeping the aesthetic in the lobby more chill or something? There is beautiful art all around the lobby Anyway, we thought this was interesting because this is a first for us, so if you happen to be staying at Island Tower, don’t freak out if you don’t see a check-in desk: just find a Cast Member to help you. 10. When you stay at a Disney World hotel, there are quite a few RULES in place that you might not realize! Bungalows at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort From “quiet hours” to safety procedures (like no running on the pool deck!) there are quite a few rules that guests have to follow. But on the other hand, there are also hotel rules that Disney has to follow. They have specific cancelation policies, safety regulations, and more. But there’s one hotel rule that we wish Disney would ACTUALLY enforce. Planning a stay at a Disney World hotel can be incredibly exciting, and many people even count down the days until they check in for their vacation! When it comes time for check-in day, some people choose to go to the parks, some head to Disney Springs, and others just hang out at the resort until their room is ready. But what if that takes a while? Port Orleans French Quarter Officially, you can check in to your Disney World Resort starting at 3PM, unless you’re staying at a Deluxe Disney Villa (a Disney Vacation Club resort/room), then the check-in time is 4PM. If you do Direct-to-Room check-in through the My Disney Experience app or arrive at your hotel earlier than 3PM, you may be able to request to get into your Disney World hotel room before the afternoon. Disney’s Contemporary Hotel Check-out time is 11AM across the property, so it’s usually pretty difficult to get into a hotel room before that time. However, some members of our team have had luck in the past with getting into their rooms before 3PM. Despite this, MORE members of our team have experienced problems with hotel check-in — namely that they had to wait a long time for their room to be ready. Wilderness Lodge One person on our team even described a time where they arrived in Disney World at 11:30PM and their hotel room was STILL not ready. What gives? Well, even though check-in is officially at 3PM or 4PM, you’re not guaranteed to get into your room right away. And we definitely think that’s a rule Disney needs to establish! Yacht Club More often than not, we’re able to get into our hotel rooms sometime in the afternoon. However, if you’re doing a short stay (say, just one night), that may not feel like enough time to truly enjoy the resort that you booked. We want to get every hour of that vacation! 11. Big changes are coming to Disney World in 2025. Disney’s Grand Floridian We’re about to see a lot of construction as EPCOT finishes up its reimagining of Test Track and Magic Kingdom starts work on its Cars expansion and Villains land. Hollywood Studios will be building a Monsters, Inc. land, while Animal Kingdom will be transforming Dinoland, U.S.A. into Pueblo Esperanza, a Tropical Americas-themed land. However, something ELSE is coming to Disney World, too, on January 1st — and it’s going to be a game-changer for folks staying at Disney World hotels. As you may know, staying at Disney World hotels already comes with certain perks. For instance, you have access to Disney World’s wide transportation network that includes buses, the Skyliner, and the Monorail to get all around the resort. You also get the opportunity to take advantage of Early Theme Park Entry, and if you’re staying at a deluxe Disney World hotel, you also get access to Extended Evening Theme Park Hours. Disney’s Beach Club Resort However, a NEW perk will be coming for those staying at Disney World hotels during their vacations. On your first day (aka your check-in day), you’ll be able to get a FREE ticket for your entire party to one of Disney World’s two water parks, Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon (whichever one is open at the time). These tickets generally run around $70 per person per day, so that’s a pretty sweet perk. Summit Plummet at Blizzard Beach This is also a good reason to book an early flight or arrange to get to Disney World early. Even if your room isn’t ready, just make sure you have your swimgear easily accessible in your luggage, and head to the water park for a little first day Disney fun. Even if you’re not a water park person, getting in free means you also have access to all the dining spots in the park, too, so you can just spend your time checking out all the snacks, some of which are exclusive to the water parks. S’mores Churros at Blizzard Beach So if you’re visiting Disney World in 2025, you have a new reason to stay at a Disney World hotel. Make sure you take advantage of this new perk! 12. When you’re choosing a Disney World park to go to based on the rides alone, you really can’t go wrong with going to Hollywood Studios. Hollywood Tower Hotel You’ve got some of the top rides at this park – Rise of the Resistance, Slinky Dog Dash, Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster, Tower of Terror, and the list keeps on going. Speaking of the Tower of Terror, we think there’s a couple of new rules that could be added to this ride, so let’s go over them! Mandatory Silence in the Pre-Show Let’s all agree – Rod Serling deserves respect. That iconic pre-show is a masterpiece of suspenseful storytelling, complete with Serling’s chilling narration and a perfectly timed lightning flash, and yet, every time we’re there, someone talks right over it. Tower of Terror Pre-Show It’s always something like: “Wait, is this based on a real show?” “This is just like that one movie!” Or worse, people trying to do bad impressions of Rod Serling while he’s literally speaking. So here’s the deal, if you talk over the pre-show, you don’t get to ride. Boom. End of discussion. Your seat in the elevator goes to someone who can keep quiet and soak up the atmosphere. The spookiness of the ride starts before you even step into that rickety elevator. Don’t ruin it for everyone else. No Trying to Spook Other Guests Look, as we were saying, the Tower of Terror is already creepy on its own. Disney’s Imagineers did their job so well that we don’t need Chad in his Mickey ears trying to sneak up on us or yelling “BOO!” right before the drop sequence. Tower of Terror We know you think you’re hilarious, but the ride is scary on its own. It doesn’t need your help. And while we’re at it, let’s talk about fake screaming. You know who you are. The ones who start screeching as loud as possible during the queue or even in the ride photo just to get attention. We see you, and it’s not giving what you think it’s giving. Tower of Terror Tower of Terror already does a fantastic job of delivering heart-stopping moments. Just let it do its thing without adding your amateur spook tactics. Ban All Loose Hats I’m sure that there are probably enough baseball caps floating around the top of the Tower of Terror to open a small theme park gift shop. Every ride, we see someone holding their hat down like it’s a prized possession only to give up halfway through the drop sequence. ©Blogmickey.com Let’s make it simple: Say it with me (like Edna Mode) “No hats.” Not even the ones that “totally fit snugly.” You’re not fooling gravity, and we all know how this ends. It’s time to save cast members the headache of hat-retrieval duty and preserve your beloved merch. ©Disney If you insist on wearing your hat, maybe consider storing it securing it in your bag before the ride starts. Otherwise, we’ll see it in the void. Reward Guests Who Can Quote Rod Serling Perfectly You know what would be a vibe? Recognizing the true fans who can recite the pre-show monologue word-for-word, down to the perfect cadence. Rod Serling If someone can do that flawlessly (and let’s emphasize flawlessly), they should get first dibs on the next elevator. Or maybe a free souvenir, like a Tower of Terror pin or a second chance to ride it without having to dive back into the queue. These are the people keeping the ride’s legacy alive, and they deserve a little extra magic for their dedication. 14. The opening of the new Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is finally here! Island Tower We’ve been so excited for about ever since it was announced, and now we’re finally getting a chance to step inside for the first time. While this is a Disney Vacation Club (DVC) tower, anyone can book a stay here, and there are tons of new amenities to explore, like the new Wailulu Bar & Grill! Come with us to take a look inside this new restaurant for the first time! Starting December 17th, the resort will be open for guests, and according to Disney this new restaurant “boast breathtaking views of the Seven Seas Lagoon and Cinderella’s Castle at Magic Kingdom Park.” This is a casual walk-up pool bar that has a full menu for lunch and dinner as well as specialty coffee and on-the-go morning pastries for breakfast. Welcome to Wailulu Bar & Grill! The authentic Polynesian vibe continues from the rest of Island Tower into the restaurant. Stepping inside Fun fact: this is the first restaurant in Disney World’s to have an all-electric kitchen! Also, you’ll have great views of the Magic Kingdom fireworks from here, and the restaurant will be playing the fireworks music every evening so you can get the full fireworks show without the Magic Kingdom crowds. Polynesian vibe The patio was a bit of a wind tunnel during our visit, but we’re hoping that means the space will be nice and cool in the summer. Right now, though, it’s a bit chilly and there are space heaters to warm us up. The patio There are nods to Polynesian culture all through the menu. Breakfast will include coffee and pastries, but then lunch and dinner will have its own menu. Some of the highlighted eats include Sweet Potato Hummus and Spiced Ham Musubi for appetizers and Sticky Pork Ribs, Poke Bowls, and a Wayfinder Burger for entrees, and, true to the Polynesian Village Resort’s name, a DOLE Whip Sundae will also be available for dessert! The menu We got to try a sample of several menu items, including the Spiced Ham Musubi which is glazed SPAM seasoned with traditional furikake and served with crispy rice pearls served over pickled sweet potato. This is also one of the only restaurant menus to feature SPAM because it’s so integral. Spiced Ham Musubi The Sweet Potato Hummus comes with crispy chickpeas, espelette pepper dust, and breadfruit tostones. The Chef explained that French breadfruit tostones is a key ingredient in the Polynesian diet. Sweet Potato Hummus The star of the restaurant’s Entrees is the Beef Short Rib Loco Moco with shiitake mushroom gravy, a crispy rice cake, and a fried egg. Um…YES, please. Everything here is based on traditional Polynesian food, and we are here for it. Beef Short Rib Loco Moco Of course, this is a bar, too, and there are some wonderful cocktails to choose from, including the Kula Strawberry Sake made with wildflowers, Junmai sake, Campari Liqueur, Rockey’s Botanical Liqueur, and wild strawberry. Kula Strawberry Sake If you’re interested in grabbing drinks and food here, the restaurant will be open until 11PM on most nights. Right now, no reservations are required. You can also order to-go since this is technically an elevated pool bar. Be sure to stay tuned to DFB for all the latest coverage of Island Tower as we explore it today! 15. After a long day in the Disney World theme parks, you deserve a break. What better place to relax than the pool? Welcome to Disney’s NEW Island Tower! One of the biggest perks of staying at a Disney World hotel is the access to the amazing POOLS at each resort. Speaking of hotels, one of Disney World’s newest — and arguably most controversial — hotels is about to open. The new DVC Island Tower at the Polynesian Village Resort has received mixed responses from many Disney fans due to its modern design. However, there’s one part of the new hotel that’s received near-universal praise ever since the planning stages: the pool! Join us as we take a look at the brand-new pool area at Disney’s Island Tower Resort. This new hotel addition features both a kids’ area and a large pool. Moana’s Voyage Splash Pad is a children’s play area that features massive sculptures of the heroine and her iconic canoe. Moana’s Voyage Splash Pad Here’s a closer look at the Moana figure — she’s beautiful! This will be a great little area for children to play in the summertime. It’s a little chilly right now, but by July, we just KNOW this will be the place to be. This looks like so much fun! Now, let’s head over to the main pool, called the Cove Pool. First of all, let’s take a moment to appreciate the view. Cove Pool Yep. That’s right. That is a ZERO-ENTRY pool. We love those. How fancy! The pool area also has plenty of seating… These chairs all have umbrellas, too! …a towel return area… That way you don’t have to carry a wet towel! …and some fun tropical decorations! How cute! There is also a hot tub, and it’s pretty big. This spa fits ten people — impressive! Hot Tub! Moana’s Voyage seems destined to become a favorite of young Disney World guests for YEARS to come! 16. Everyone stay calm, it is finally happening! After watching construction progress next to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort for what feels like forever, we are FINALLY getting to step foot inside the new Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. Island Tower While the brand-new hotel doesn’t officially open until December 17th, 2024, we are getting a sneak peek inside this new hotel. We will be checking out some of the new rooms and exploring the SKY TERRACES. The Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows is the newest Disney Vacation Club Resort at Disney World. The hotel is filled with the spirit of Polynesia, and we have been amazed by the gorgeous details throughout! However, one of our favorite areas we explored was the tropical terrace hideaways. Terrace Garden Hideaway Guests at the Island Tower have access to four of these terraces, which we lovingly refer to as sky terraces since they are positioned in the middle of the hotel, near the top, and overlook Disney World. There are two positioned on either side of the hotel. You’ll get a great view of the Seven Seas Lagoon and Magic Kingdom on one side and a surreal sunset view of the Disney World golf courses on the other. The circled area is one of the Terrace Gardens overlooking Seven Seas Lagoon ©Disney Each terrace is themed to a Polynesian island and highlights the flora and artwork of that island. Terraces are themed to Bora Bora, Hawaiʻi, Samoa, and Fiji. It’s a beautiful area to hang out and relax All four terraces offer stunning views of the surrounding area, including Magic Kingdom. Two of these peaceful terraces will be the PERFECT place to enjoy the Happily Ever After fireworks without having to brave the crowds. Music from the show will be played in the terrace gardens; however, you must be a resort guest to see it from here. A room card or MagicBand is required to be scanned in the elevators to get to the floors with the terraces. There are great views! We got to explore one of the terraces, and we have decided we will be moving there permanently. We can’t get over how gorgeous and serene these terraces are. There are lots of beautiful details, including a variety of tropical plants. Lots of tropical plants! Plus, the GIANT mural on the wall is breathtaking! It’s gorgeous! No detail was spared. You can see the walls and ceiling weren’t even missed in the design. How cool! There’s also a variety of seating options here to enjoy the view. Multiple seating options Don’t mind us. We are just imagining hanging out on the terrace, sipping a glass of wine while looking at Cinderella Castle. The terraces aren’t the only thing we got to check out at the new Island Tower, though. We are bringing you all along with us as we explore this new hotel, so make sure to stay tuned to DFB so you don’t miss a thing! Check out the FULL menu for the Wailulu Bar & Grill at Island Tower! 17. The new year is coming up FAST! Cinderella Castle We’re about halfway through December, and Christmas is coming up in just a few short days, which means 2025 is just around the corner. If you’re celebrating at Disney World, we hope you’re prepared for some major crowds, as Christmas, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day are some of the busiest days at the parks. When it’s busy, grabbing Lightning Lanes can be a great way to skip the long lines, and Disney’s new Lightning Lane Premier Pass is one of the three options for doing that. So, as 2025 approaches, let’s take a look at which days SO FAR will be the cheapest to purchase this new Lightning Lane pass! Lightning Lane Premier Pass was added as a Lightning Lane option in October 2024. It started out as only being available for those staying at Deluxe Disney World Resort hotels but is now available for any guest staying at any Disney World Resort hotel and select other hotels. There are VERY LIMITED quantities of these passes available each day, and they give you the ability to ride every Lightning Lane ride, including Single Pass rides, one time each day of purchase at one park. ©Disney For Premier Pass, you purchase one park pass for each member in your party. Those who are eligible may purchase Lightning Lane Premier Pass up to 7 days before your first day at your resort stay for the entire length of your stay (up to 14 days) starting at 7AM EST. Since these passes can be purchased in advance, Disney provides the pricing of them 21 days ahead. So, for example, today, December 14th, we can see the prices from December 14th through January 4th on the My Disney Experience app. ©Disney As you can probably imagine, the pricing for Lightning Lane Premier Pass is the highest starting on December 24th and going through New Year’s Eve since these are extremely busy times at the parks. Disney changes the pricing of Lightning Lane Multi Pass, Single Pass, and Premier Pass based on the expected crowds for each day. Haunted Mansion Lightning Lane As we look at the beginning of 2025, prices for Lightning Lane Premier Pass slowly begin to drop starting January 1st! WOO! The cheapest day to purchase Premier Pass SO FAR in 2025 will be January 4th. The pricing for this day is as follows: Magic Kingdom — $379 EPCOT — $209 Hollywood Studios — $309 Animal Kingdom — $159 Animal Kingdom We’ll be keeping a lookout for even lower prices, as Disney has shared the price range for each park can go below these prices. If you’re heading to Disney World at the beginning of 2025 and want to purchase Premier Pass, be aware that it currently shows it as getting cheaper from January 1st through the 4th. EPCOT It’s also important to note that Park Hopping with Premier Pass does not work. Premier Pass is only valid for the park you purchased, and you will not be able to use the Lightning Lanes at other parks on that day. So you can park hop if you have a Park Hopper ticket, but you can’t use Premier Pass at more than the one park you purchased. Hollywood Studios As you plan your Disney World vacation, consider whether or not you want to purchase Lightning Lane Multi Pass, Lightning Lane Single Passes, or Lightning Lane Premier Pass to skip the lines at many of the attractions. If you have questions about these passes, be sure to click on the link or watch the video below! In the meantime, keep following DFB for more Disney news! But we recently spotted some construction walls up at the building along with a new permit filed! The new show will be called “The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure,” and it is now coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Summer 2025. The Little Mermaid: A Musical Adventure Disney still hasn’t announced an official opening date for the new show, but it has been postponed from its Fall 2024 opening timeline. 19. Let’s take a little trip, shall we? We’re headed to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort to preview the brand-new Disney Vacation Club Island Tower. Island Tower Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is home to a new Disney Vacation Club property called the Island Tower! According to Disney, this new addition “will immerse you in the captivating stories and unique cultures of the islands,” and while it’s been a little controversial, now we get to step inside for the first time and see for ourselves if it’s worth the price. We’ve checked out the grounds, the amenities, and the dining options, but now it’s time to explore one of the most important parts of the hotel — the rooms! There is one thing that is VERY important to note, though. Not all views are created equal! This hotel is SUPER close to the Seven Seas Lagoon, but not all rooms will have the perfect “money shot” view. In fact, we noticed that some of the views also look out to Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort, which is a little bit immersion-breaking with the tropical theme of the resort. We preferred the rooms that look out directly to Seven Seas Lagoon. 21. Take a look at this stunning horizon. The iconic Big Thunder Mountain stands tall in the background, and we see not a cloud in the sky. What a beautiful Florida day! Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Well…that’s not the case anymore. During a recent visit to Magic Kingdom, we spotted something new on the Frontierland horizon, and you might not like it. OK, so first, let’s give you a little background. During the 2024 D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, Disney announced that Frontierland will be getting a massive makeover. Here’s a peek at the new concept art. ‘Cars’ area in Magic Kingdom ©Disney We’re expecting a new area inspired by Cars in Frontierland, which will feature Western frontier theming. Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro said, “The American West has always been about keeping your eyes on the horizon … believing in yourself, carving your own path, and striving toward success. That goes for miners in the mountains, bears from the country, a princess from the bayou … or a racecar from the big city.” Coming Coming to Frontierland at Magic Kingdom, a new area themed to Pixar Animation Studios’ “Cars” will leave Radiator Springs and head to the wilderness with two new attractions including an off-road race. This new area of Frontierland will feature two new Cars attractions. But, as you may have noticed from the concept art, this new Cars land will replace Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America. The endangered Tom Sawyer Island Construction hasn’t started on Tom Sawyer Island quite yet, so you still have a little bit of time to explore this quiet part of Magic Kingdom. NEWS: ‘Cars’ Expansion to Replace Tom Sawyer Island in Magic Kingdom But wait. There’s more! Disney also confirmed that Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will undergo a year-long refurbishment starting in 2025. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad While Disney didn’t reveal its exact plans for Big Thunder while the ride is closed for refurbishment, we have our suspicions. If Big Thunder Mountain is closed, guests won’t be able to see what’s happening behind the attraction. This could be the perfect time for Imagineers to work on the new Villains Land going “Beyond Big Thunder Mountain.” During a recent visit to Magic Kingdom, we spotted this big construction barrier meant to obscure the construction happening behind the scenes. We’ve already spotted some construction Big Thunder Mountain closes on January 6th, 2025, and will reopen sometime in 2026. What a YEARLONG CLOSURE Means for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Disney World In the meantime, it looks like Disney is already working on some major construction behind the scenes. Look at these giant cranes we noticed near Big Thunder Mountain. Kinda ruins the view, right? Well, that’s not very pretty. Over by Big Thunder Mountain, you can get a closer look at the new construction equipment. This is a bit of an eyesore. Now that it seems like Disney is hard at work “beyond Big Thunder,” you might have to get used to this obstructed view of Magic Kingdom. We expect to see more and more construction appear over the next few months. They should paint it blue to blend in, right?! In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more. NEWS! Close-Up Look at the NEW Hotel Announced for Disney World! 23. Disney Adults have some seriously strong opinions. We’re a passionate bunch — and that’s especially true when it comes to changes at Disney World. Cinderella Castle But, that doesn’t mean that all Disney Adults share the same opinions about such changes. In fact, lately, we’ve seen quite a split between different generations of Disney fans — and there’s one controversial announcement Gen Z and Millennial Disney Adults can’t stop fighting over. A brand-new Disney World hotel is opening in 2027! Disney Lakeshore Lodge will be located where the previously announced Reflections — A Disney Lakeside Lodge Resort was supposed to be built. Reflections was announced back in 2019 with an expected opening date of 2022, but construction was halted after the 2020 global health crisis. It was set to occupy the former home of Disney’s River Country water park near Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. The newly announced Lakeshore Lodge ©Disney The brand-new hotel will be “inspired by the majesty of nature and its enduring influence on Disney artists,” and will be a new Disney Vacation Club property. It sounds pretty majestic, right? Well, not all Disney Adults agree! In fact, even our team seems to be divided on the announcement — and it seems to be split between Gen Z and Millennials. Reflections Concept Art ©Disney The Millennials here at DFB seem to be pretty excited about the new hotel and what it will likely bring to Disney World — new restaurants, shopping, and a new space to explore. And, while it will be a Disney Vacation Club hotel, that doesn’t mean only DVC Members will be able to stay here! ©FAA On the other hand, though, Gen Z DFB doesn’t seem to be as excited about Lakeshore Lodge. Most of them agreed that they likely wouldn’t be staying there anytime soon because of the price — unless someone else pays for it. Since Lakeshore Lodge will be a brand-new Deluxe hotel, it will likely be quite pricey when it first opens, though we don’t have any official pricing just yet. Reflections Concept Art ©Disney We also don’t have too many details on what sort of footprint the new hotel will have. When Disney originally announced Reflections, they shared that it would have more than 900 rooms. It’s possible Lakeshore Lodge will have the same — or a similar — design and style that Reflections was originally supposed to have. ©Disney While we don’t have too many details about Lakeshore Lodge just yet, we do know that we’re looking forward to there being even more Disney World to explore. We’ll be on the lookout for the latest news from Disney World and more. Make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog so you don’t miss a thing! 24. Heads up, Millennials! A reboot is in the works that you won’t want to miss. ©Disney Disney continues to bring back old series from the early 2000s, revamping them with the children of the kids we grew up with. Examples include That’s So Raven returning as Raven’s Home, Boy Meets World returning as Girl Meets World, and Wizards of Waverly Place recently making a comeback as Wizards Beyond Waverly Place. Now, everyone’s favorite dysfunctional family from the 2000s is set to make a comeback! In an Instagram post, Disney+ made a HUGE announcement for those of us who grew up in the 2000s. Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston, and Jane Kaczmarek created a reel announcing the return of Malcolm in the Middle! The reboot will take place on Disney+ as four new episodes of the beloved sitcom. An official premiere date has not been set yet. According to Variety, the show is described as: “Malcolm (Muniz) and his daughter are drawn into the family’s chaos when Hal (Cranston) and Lois (Kaczmarek) demand his presence for their 40th wedding anniversary party.” ©Fox The creator of the original series, Linwood Boomer, is behind the reboot, along with Disney Branded Television. Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television stated, “Malcolm in the Middle is a landmark sitcom that captured the essence of family life with humor, heart and relatability. Its hilarious and heartfelt portrayal of a lovably chaotic family resonated with audiences of all ages, and we’re so excited to welcome the original cast back to bring that magic to life again. With Linwood Boomer and the creative team at the helm, these new episodes will have all the laughs, pranks, and mayhem fans loved — along with a few surprises that remind us why this show is so timeless.” The original show aired on Fox for seven season and 151 episodes from 2000-2006. The original cast consisted of Muniz, Cranston, and Kaczmarek who will be reprising their roles in the upcoming reboot. ©Disney You might recognize Muniz from other early 2000 hits such as Agent Cody Banks and Big Fat Liar. Bryan Cranston is probably best known for his role at Walter White on Breaking Bad, while Jane Kaczmarek has been in movies such as Chips, The Heavenly Kid, and Pleasantville. We’re looking forward to yelling “MALCOLM” again after nearly 20 years without Malcolm in the Middle. For more Disney news, keep following DFB! 25. At this point, I’m sure you’ve heard the huge Disney World hotel news, right?! Magic Kingdom Disney recently announced a brand-new hotel is coming to Disney World! Disney Lakeshore Lodge will be opening in 2027 right in the same spot that was going to be Reflections — A Disney Lakeside Lodge Resort. Now, there’s not much we know about this resort, but Disney did share some concept art, and since they have a habit of trying to be sneaky with their concept art, we thought we’d have ourselves a little look and see what nuggets of info about for the new hotel we can glean! As we said, this new hotel will be called Disney Lakeshore Lodge and will be built in the same location that the previously announced Reflections — A Disney Lakeside Lodge Resort was supposed to go. Disney has said that this brand-new hotel will be “inspired by the majesty of nature and its enduring influence on Disney artists.” Reflections ©Disney As you can see, Disney has only officially released this single (solitary) image of the new resort, which at first glance, doesn’t show much of anything. But, as we love doing, we thought we’d take a deeper look at the concept art and see if we can tease out any special info from it. For starters, this concept art of the entrance, is very similar to the entrance for Reflections — A Disney Lakeside Lodge Resort. Have a look. Reflections ©Disney Being that they’re so similar, it might be safe to assume that the majority of what we previously saw, might be coming to this new resort. Before diving into that, let’s go back to the new concept art and zoom in a bit. For starters, we can see that they are going to be leaning heavily into the wilderness theming and use of Disney IP (intellectual property) as we can see to either side of the entrance with Bambi, Thumper, and Flower. ©Disney At the moment, we’re not sure if those characters have been included just for the concept art, or if they will be physically present like statues flanking the entrance. Above the entrance doors appears to be wording that reads, “The Wonders of Nature are Endless.” ©Disney Directly underneath that wording, it looks like there will be a statue of a certain Disney Princess. Now, Disney hasn’t released updated concept art for this lobby, but here’s a look at what they previously had for Reflections — A Disney Lakeside Lodge Resort: Reflections concept art featuring Pocahontas. You can see in this concept art Pocahontas standing as she did in the film and wisps around and above her perhaps physically representing the wind. Here’s another angle of the lobby from the previous concept art: More Reflections concept art. Of course, it’s way too early to tell if this is how the interior is going to look. But seeing that they kept much of the original artwork the same for the new exterior concept art they recently released, it does make us think that these images may be pretty good indications of how the resort will look. If that’s the case, we’re wondering if we’ll be seeing rooms like these: ©Disney Well, that’s all we’ve got for you at the moment.
