  1. Disney Adults have some seriously strong opinions. We’re a passionate bunch — and that’s especially true when it comes to changes at Disney World. Cinderella Castle But, that doesn’t mean that all Disney Adults share the same opinions about such changes. In fact, lately, we’ve seen quite a split between different generations of Disney fans — and there’s one controversial announcement Gen Z and Millennial Disney Adults can’t stop fighting over. A brand-new Disney World hotel is opening in 2027! Disney Lakeshore Lodge will be located where the previously announced Reflections — A Disney Lakeside Lodge Resort was supposed to be built. Reflections was announced back in 2019 with an expected opening date of 2022, but construction was halted after the 2020 global health crisis. It was set to occupy the former home of Disney’s River Country water park near Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. The newly announced Lakeshore Lodge ©Disney The brand-new hotel will be “inspired by the majesty of nature and its enduring influence on Disney artists,” and will be a new Disney Vacation Club property. It sounds pretty majestic, right? Well, not all Disney Adults agree! In fact, even our team seems to be divided on the announcement — and it seems to be split between Gen Z and Millennials. Reflections Concept Art ©Disney The Millennials here at DFB seem to be pretty excited about the new hotel and what it will likely bring to Disney World — new restaurants, shopping, and a new space to explore. And, while it will be a Disney Vacation Club hotel, that doesn’t mean only DVC Members will be able to stay here! ©FAA On the other hand, though, Gen Z DFB doesn’t seem to be as excited about Lakeshore Lodge. Most of them agreed that they likely wouldn’t be staying there anytime soon because of the price — unless someone else pays for it. Since Lakeshore Lodge will be a brand-new Deluxe hotel, it will likely be quite pricey when it first opens, though we don’t have any official pricing just yet. Reflections Concept Art ©Disney We also don’t have too many details on what sort of footprint the new hotel will have. When Disney originally announced Reflections, they shared that it would have more than 900 rooms. It’s possible Lakeshore Lodge will have the same — or a similar — design and style that Reflections was originally supposed to have. ©Disney While we don’t have too many details about Lakeshore Lodge just yet, we do know that we’re looking forward to there being even more Disney World to explore. 2. Heads up, Millennials! A reboot is in the works that you won’t want to miss. ©Disney Disney continues to bring back old series from the early 2000s, revamping them with the children of the kids we grew up with. Examples include That’s So Raven returning as Raven’s Home, Boy Meets World returning as Girl Meets World, and Wizards of Waverly Place recently making a comeback as Wizards Beyond Waverly Place. Now, everyone’s favorite dysfunctional family from the 2000s is set to make a comeback! In an Instagram post, Disney+ made a HUGE announcement for those of us who grew up in the 2000s. Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston, and Jane Kaczmarek created a reel announcing the return of Malcolm in the Middle! The reboot will take place on Disney+ as four new episodes of the beloved sitcom. An official premiere date has not been set yet. According to Variety, the show is described as: “Malcolm (Muniz) and his daughter are drawn into the family’s chaos when Hal (Cranston) and Lois (Kaczmarek) demand his presence for their 40th wedding anniversary party.” ©Fox The creator of the original series, Linwood Boomer, is behind the reboot, along with Disney Branded Television. Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television stated, “Malcolm in the Middle is a landmark sitcom that captured the essence of family life with humor, heart and relatability. Its hilarious and heartfelt portrayal of a lovably chaotic family resonated with audiences of all ages, and we’re so excited to welcome the original cast back to bring that magic to life again. With Linwood Boomer and the creative team at the helm, these new episodes will have all the laughs, pranks, and mayhem fans loved — along with a few surprises that remind us why this show is so timeless.” The original show aired on Fox for seven season and 151 episodes from 2000-2006. The original cast consisted of Muniz, Cranston, and Kaczmarek who will be reprising their roles in the upcoming reboot. ©Disney You might recognize Muniz from other early 2000 hits such as Agent Cody Banks and Big Fat Liar. Bryan Cranston is probably best known for his role at Walter White on Breaking Bad, while Jane Kaczmarek has been in movies such as Chips, The Heavenly Kid, and Pleasantville. We’re looking forward to yelling “MALCOLM” again after nearly 20 years without Malcolm in the Middle. For more Disney news, keep following DFB! 3. At this point, I’m sure you’ve heard the huge Disney World hotel news, right?! Magic Kingdom Disney recently announced a brand-new hotel is coming to Disney World! Disney Lakeshore Lodge will be opening in 2027 right in the same spot that was going to be Reflections — A Disney Lakeside Lodge Resort. Now, there’s not much we know about this resort, but Disney did share some concept art, and since they have a habit of trying to be sneaky with their concept art, we thought we’d have ourselves a little look and see what nuggets of info about for the new hotel we can glean! As we said, this new hotel will be called Disney Lakeshore Lodge and will be built in the same location that the previously announced Reflections — A Disney Lakeside Lodge Resort was supposed to go. Disney has said that this brand-new hotel will be “inspired by the majesty of nature and its enduring influence on Disney artists.” Reflections ©Disney As you can see, Disney has only officially released this single (solitary) image of the new resort, which at first glance, doesn’t show much of anything. But, as we love doing, we thought we’d take a deeper look at the concept art and see if we can tease out any special info from it. For starters, this concept art of the entrance, is very similar to the entrance for Reflections — A Disney Lakeside Lodge Resort. Have a look. Reflections ©Disney Being that they’re so similar, it might be safe to assume that the majority of what we previously saw, might be coming to this new resort. Before diving into that, let’s go back to the new concept art and zoom in a bit. For starters, we can see that they are going to be leaning heavily into the wilderness theming and use of Disney IP (intellectual property) as we can see to either side of the entrance with Bambi, Thumper, and Flower. ©Disney At the moment, we’re not sure if those characters have been included just for the concept art, or if they will be physically present like statues flanking the entrance. Above the entrance doors appears to be wording that reads, “The Wonders of Nature are Endless.” ©Disney Directly underneath that wording, it looks like there will be a statue of a certain Disney Princess. Now, Disney hasn’t released updated concept art for this lobby, but here’s a look at what they previously had for Reflections — A Disney Lakeside Lodge Resort: Reflections concept art featuring Pocahontas. You can see in this concept art Pocahontas standing as she did in the film and wisps around and above her perhaps physically representing the wind. Here’s another angle of the lobby from the previous concept art: More Reflections concept art. Of course, it’s way too early to tell if this is how the interior is going to look. But seeing that they kept much of the original artwork the same for the new exterior concept art they recently released, it does make us think that these images may be pretty good indications of how the resort will look. If that’s the case, we’re wondering if we’ll be seeing rooms like these: ©Disney Well, that’s all we’ve got for you at the moment. 4. Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass premiered in 2024, replacing the previous Genie+ skip-the-line system. Lightning Lane This new paid service allows you to skip the long standby lines at rides and use the shorter Lightning Lanes instead. Now, we’ve tried this service out over and over to get you all the best tips and tricks on how to use it. Also, in case you didn’t know, you can purchase it IN ADVANCE of your Disney World trip. So that means we get a good idea of what prices are going to be in the future. So let’s take a look at the Lightning Lane prices in January 2025. Let’s go over these changes and see just how much the future of Magic Kingdom will be impacted! 7. Does Disney World have a Lightning Lane problem? Many of our readers seem to think so. Lightning Lane Disney World has a long history of skip-the-line systems. More recently, we saw Genie+ get replaced by Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass. Then we saw the introduction of the pricey Lightning Lane Premier Pass. With Disney shaking things up significantly with the Lightning Lane process, we reached out to you, our readers, to get a litmus test on how everyone’s feeling about Lightning Lane Multi Pass especially, and ya’ll had some thoughts. We asked our readers on Facebook if you could make one change to Disney World’s Lightning Lanes, what would it be and there was no shortage of answers. Unsurprisingly, only a small number of people were totally satisfied with how Lightning Lane Multi Pass works. Ever since Disney World moved away from FastPass FastPass+ after the pandemic, criticism has followed the company as it introduced a paid skip-the-line service. Today, the primary service used is Lightning Lane Multi Pass, which is a tiered system that allows its users to pay to select three ride reservations in advance and then continue selecting ride reservations during select timed windows. The service also comes with Disney PhotoPass and can be a bit complicated, so for a quick refresher, take a look at the pamphlet below. Disney Lightning Lane Brochure So what kind of changes would ya’ll make to Lightning Lane Multi Pass? The most popular answer was to eliminate it altogether. Reader Steve wrote, “Honestly, I would eliminate ALL of the line-cutting options. Everybody should get the same experience.” Several readers agree that if you pay the price of admission, the wait time playing field should be level. Tomorrowland Speedway Lightning Lane entrance Reader Pam brought up an idea that many also agreed with: “Make it free.” In the FastPass era, the skip-the-line service was free and was solely dependent on demand, time of day, and a little bit of luck. So many of us remember those days and it can be challenging to not look back on them fondly. The system worked and it seems like many of you regret Disney changing it. Dumbo Lightning Lane Another callback to the old FastPass service was brought up by Reader Julie, who wrote that Lightning Lane Multi Pass should have “the option of selecting the same ride and show more than one time”. Right now, once you use a reservation for an attraction with Lightning Lane Multi Pass, you cannot redeem a second reservation for that day. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Lightning Lane Reader Rachel added that there should be more options for pre-booking instead of the 3-ride limitation. Instead of offering three reservations, Rachel suggested that maybe Disney could offer seven instead, “This way the day is essentially booked and we don’t have to worry about rides running out of time slots during the day.” One of Lightning Lane Multi Pass’ biggest downfalls is that it’s totally subject to availability and demand. There’s always a chance you don’t get your money’s worth. Adding pre-booking reservations could help ease that issue at least for guests who book in advance. Mad Tea Party Lightning Lane Finally, we saw one popular request get mentioned several times: BRING FASTPASS BACK! It’s clear the old skip-the-line service is still very much missed and we get it. 8. Hey friends! We’re setting sail aboard the NEW Disney Treasure cruise ship and bringing you all the ship details you could possibly want! Welcome to the Disney Treasure! The latest addition to the Disney Cruise Line, the Disney Treasure is set to make its maiden voyage on December 21st, 2024, but we were invited to set sail a bit early aboard the new vessel! We’ve been exploring the whole ship, but now, it’s time for dinner at Worlds of Marvel! We’re experiencing everything and anything the Disney Treasure has to offer, so for all the latest comprehensive coverage and all the info you need to know about sailing on the Disney Cruise Line’s latest addition to its fleet, check out our guide below! Disney Cruise Line — The Disney Treasure Cruise Ship Atmosphere At Worlds of Marvel, you’ll experience something called “Marvel Celebration of Heroes: Groot Remix.” Because the Disney Treasure features longer sailings, folks will actually dine at Worlds of Marvel twice, and it’s on the second night that passengers will experience this show. The first night at Worlds of Marvel features the “Avengers: Quantum Encounter” show you can find on the Disney Wish as well. Worlds of Marvel You’ll feel like you’re entering another world (of Marvel?!) as you make your way through the tunnel and into the “Avengers Technology Showcase,” where the latest innovations are presented during your dinner. Entering the tunnel The restaurant itself is pretty large, but it’s divided up into sections so it still feels rather intimate. Our table Blue lights and chrome are everywhere the eye can see, and it does feel like you’re in a super high-tech restaurant! The tables are larger, and depending on your party size you may be seated with other groups. At each table setting, you’ll find a pretty charger plate with the Avengers symbol. Place setting Also at every table, you’ll find a Quantum Core. In some parts during dinner, the Quantum Cores will light up and make sound effects. They can even sync their lighting across the tables. Quantum Core Also throughout the restaurant, you’ll find over 100 monitors that come to life with iconic Marvel characters — including the Guardians of the Galaxy! Rocket Raccoon! But, what do they serve to eat and drink at Worlds of Marvel?! Menu You’ll find a variety of cuisines available on the menu here, which means there’s likely something for everyone! There are a few different appetizers, salads, soups, and bread service… Menu …along with plenty of entrées, lighter fare, and desserts, too. Menu And, of course, there is also a selection of soft drinks, coffee, tea, cocktails, mocktails, beer, and wine available at Worlds of Marvel, too. Drinks So, how does the food taste when it’s prepared by Earth’s Mightiest Heroes? Okay, we’re pretty sure the Guardians of the Galaxy don’t actually make your food here, but hey, you never know. Eats Like any decent Disney restaurant, we kicked things off with the bread service. This was a six-grain country bread with caramelized onion dipping sauce. We enjoyed this bread — it had a chewy crust with a soft inside. The caramelized onion dipping sauce didn’t taste caramelized or oniony to us — it was an orange color and creamy. Honestly, we’re not entirely sure we were served the right thing. If you’re iffy about the dipping sauce with your bread service on DCL you can always request butter if they don’t automatically bring it to your table. I LOVE BREAD! — Oprah and also us We tried the White Cheddar and Broccolini Soup, as recommended by our server. It is a really nice, silky, and creamy texture but it’s not too heavy at all. It’s sufficiently cheesy and you can taste that broccolini in there. It kind of makes you feel like you’re eating healthy because you’ve got something green on your plate. This was good as an appetizer and if you’re planning on ordering soup — this is a great option. White cheddar and broccolini soup We also grabbed the Ahi Tuna Poke, which ended up being our favorite appetizer. It was very fresh tasting and very flavorful. It had a lot of ginger and cilantro — those were the prominent flavors and the tuna itself was super fresh. Ahi Tuna Poke The Heirloom Tomato Caprese was served absolutely swimming in aged balsamic dressing, but we weren’t mad about it. It was pretty much exactly what you expect from a Caprese salad. If you’re a fan of them in general, you’ll like this version! Heirloom tomato salad The Porcini Sachetti appetizer was decadent and lovely. If you think these remind you of the pets that are served in the Animator’s Palette on the other Disney Cruise Line ships, you would be right — they are the same shapes, and the flavors are reminiscent as well. The pasta that is on the other ships has black truffles shaved on it and you’re not going to get that same flavor here from the porcini mushrooms. But, these are served with a cream sauce and the porcini mushroom and they are very delicious. They are soft, the pasta is cooked well, and they have the right amount of chew to them. Porcini sachetti The Mongolian Chicken Satay appetizer was served as a kabob over rice with a few accompaniments like veggies and peanut sauce. Overall, it was something we would try again! The chicken was well cooked but not dry and glazed with a sweet sauce. The peanut sauce was on the side for dipping or drizzling over the kabob and there was a small cup of cut-up red peppers and zucchini on the side. Our only complaint about this was that the white rice was overcooked so it was extremely soft and gummy. Chicken satay The Roasted Peri Peri Chicken was the first entrée we tried and it was totally something we would get again. The meat was tender and the skin was well marinated and crispy. It sat in a shallow bed of peri peri sauce that, unfortunately, had almost no heat to it and tasted more like a tomato paste. There’s a toasted lime served on the side to add extra flavor which we loved squeezed over the chicken and the sweet potato and green beans on the side for extra flavor. Peri Peri chicken We also tried the Tamari and Honey Glazed Salmon Filet with soba noodles, baby bok choy, lime, and toasted sesame seeds. The glaze on this salmon was sweet and delicious, and it made the salmon the best thing on the plate. There were A LOT of noodles on the plate and they were bland and would have benefitted from more of a sauce — they were tossed in some teriyaki but it did not coat the noodles completely, or they had soaked up the sauce when it got to our table — which is possible in a banquet food setting. Tamari and honey glazed salmon The Linguini Nero is made with garlic shrimp, Malabar spinach, roasted grape tomatoes, and parmesan reggiano. This was a standout among the entrées here. It had more flavor than our other dishes. We were surprised the pasta was black when it arrived but we were just not very observant because Nero means black in Italian! The shrimp was slightly overcooked but did not take away from our enjoyment and we appreciated the copious amount of cheese this dish was served with. Linguini Nero As a plant-based option, we tried the Wild Mushroom Sweet Onion Strudel. This was the shocker of the night. Several of our reporters tasted this vegetarian dish and really enjoyed it — even those of us who don’t like tofu. The flavors were well balanced here between the earthy mushroom, the sweetness of the onion, and the creamy tofu. The phyllo pastry remained crisp and the basil dressing on the plate added a nice freshness. We don’t think you have to be a super adventurous eater to try this, and a cruise ship is a safe spot to take a chance — your server can bring you a different entree if you really don’t like it — or you can always find something else to eat elsewhere later or order up some chicken tendies to your room! Wild mushroom sweet onion strudel For something a little meatier, we decided to order the Beef Wellington — which was FINE. Beef Wellington is generally a safe bet because it is baked and hard to mess up. This version was good — the meat was of good quality and the pastry was cooked well. The mushroom duxelle did not have much flavor — we wish it would have added more earthiness to the dish. The potatoes served on the side were solid, but nothing earth-shattering. This is a good safe dish for a meat and potatoes eater. Beef wellington And now, onto desserts! The Double Blueberry Cheesecake has a blueberry cheesecake “bubble” glazed in blueberry sauce, atop a lemon shortbread crust. We detected no lemon in the crust, but this was a good dessert for cheesecake fans. Double Blueberry Cheesecake Next, we tried the Celebration Cake and oh my gosh this was so good. It is what our server recommended. It was a layer of baked cheesecake, topped with a layer of pastry cream, and that pastry cream made the whole dessert. We thought of it as a very elevated strawberry shortcake. We would have ordered 3 pieces of this if we didn’t have more desserts to try — and you can do that. You can ask for additional dessert and your server will oblige unless they are out. Celebration Cake The Cappuccino Mousse was up next. One feature of Disney Cruise’s rotational dining menus is no-sugar-added desserts. You will find one on every menu, and they are usually surprisingly good. This one is very good and we would recommend if you like coffee and raspberry flavors — even if you aren’t avoiding added sugars. The mousse is light and has more coffee flavor than chocolate flavor. And the raspberry filling is delish. Cappuccino Mousse Finally, we tried the Chocolate Decadence. This was bitter chocolate cream, truffle cream, and chocolate sauce. We sometimes feel like things aren’t decadent enough to have that in the name, but this was decadent. It was quite delicious and if you are a chocolate fan, this is what you should order for dessert at this restaurant for sure. There are better chocolate desserts on board — like the lava cake at 1923, but this one is great. Chocolate decadence MAN! That’s a lot of food. So, what did we get to drink?! Drinks There are PLENTY of exciting-sounding drinks on this menu, but we opted for a flight: the Wakanda Tasting Lab. It’s “A taste of cocktails developed by Wakanda Design Group mixologists, using ingredients cultivated on Mount Bashenga.” The cocktails are made with Starr Rum 7 Yrs, Vusa Vodka, and Bayab Gin and each one was fruity and delicious! Wakanda Tasting Lab Alright, what do we ACTUALLY think of Worlds of Marvel on the Disney Treasure? Overall Worlds of Marvel is such a fun experience even if you’re not the biggest fan, and we loved the new Groot show! The food you’ll find here is hit or miss depending on what you order, but we loved the Mushroom Strudel, the Peri Peri Chicken, the Porcini Sachetti, and too many desserts to count. Plus, those drinks were out of this world! Worlds of Marvel Are you excited about this new offering aboard the Disney Treasure? 9. We talk about Disney World a lot around here, but there are some other GREAT theme parks in Florida. In fact, the theme park area where LEGOLAND Florida lives used to be home to Florida’s first theme park — Cypress Gardens. ©Visit Central Florida As the name implies, Cypress Gardens was a “dream garden” created by Pope, Sr., who once told his wife, “Someday we’ll build a Garden and attract visitors to Winter Haven!” according to VisitCentralFlorida.com. Amazingly, it worked. One of the biggest attractions at Cypress Gardens was the world-famous water ski show. The show became so popular that Cypress Gardens was named the “water ski capital of the world.” ©Visit Central Florida These days, although Cypress Gardens is no longer open, LEGOLAND Florida has a version of the water ski show called Brickbeard’s Watersport Stunt Show. But, according to Click Orlando, the show will end on December 30th. In its place, a SEA LIFE Aquarium is set to open in the spring. ©LEGOLAND According to Click Orlando, a LEGOLAND spokesperson stated that the decision to no longer run the attraction wasn’t easy to make, adding, “While we cherish this legacy, we are listening to our guests, and our focus is on introducing new and dynamic experiences to continue creating family memories.” ©LEGOLAND The water ski show will be the longest continuously running entertainment production in the world. After the show ends, the Cypress Gardens Water Ski Team plans to host free water ski shows on the third Saturday of each month at Lake Silver. ©Visit Central Florida If you’d like to catch the show before it ends for good, make sure to visit LEGOLAND before December 30th, 2024. In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest theme park news, so stay tuned for more. 11. Disney World has a lot of changes coming in 2025, and sometimes it’s hard to keep track of them all. TriceraTop Spin Thankfully, we’re here to keep track of them for you to hopefully help lower the confusion around this upcoming year. There are lots of construction projects going on in all four Disney World parks, but some of them mean that certain rides are shutting down for good. If you’re visiting the parks soon, be sure to take one last ride on these before they go away! Magic Kingdom Over in Magic Kingdom, THREE closures are about to hit the parks and it won’t be pretty. We aren’t sure yet about the timeline on any of these, but we know the new Cars-themed land is taking the place of the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island, which means that Tom Sawyer Island and the Liberty Square Riverboat will be going away in 2025. Liberty Square Riverboat and Tom Sawyer Island Not only will this massively mess up the travel time and ease getting around to Frontierland, but that area of the park will also be without an attraction for the whole year. While Big Thunder Mountain Railroad isn’t closing for good entirely, it’s current version won’t be coming back! Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Not only does the ride need some TLC, but we’re also assuming it’s closing to keep guests from seeing the Villains Land construction happening behind it. Regardless of the reason, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will be closed for the whole year and will return in 2026 with “a little bit of new magic according to Disney. Disney’s Hollywood Studios Our entire team is devastated about the loss of Muppet*Vision 3D in Hollywood Studios, but it’s a necessary evil in Disney’s eyes to bring the new Monsters, Inc. Land to life. This isn’t a ride, per se, but it is an attraction that means a lot to many guests due to its nostalgia, so we knew it was important to include. And, while Disney hasn’t technically confirmed the closing date for this spot — we have a pretty good feeling it will be in 2025. MuppetVision 3D Theater Also in Hollywood Studios, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster as we know it will be no more! Aerosmith will be replaced by the Muppets (specifically Dr. Teeth and The Electric Mayhem), and while the ride system and vehicle will stay the same, the new theming will likely make this ride look totally different! Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster We’ll also likely see some special musical guests in the ride, because Disney has said the Muppets will be “teaming up with some of music’s biggest stars for a rockin’ music festival.” We’re really excited to see what this retheme will bring, but we are sad we’re losing Aerosmith. Disney’s Animal Kingdom Over in Animal Kingdom, parts of Dinoland U.S.A. will be closing to make way for the new Tropical Americas section of the park which will feature Encanto and Indiana Jones theming! The first of these closures will happen on January 13th, and one of them is none other than TriceraTop Spin. TriceraTop Spin However, the good news here is that it’s just been confirmed by Disney that Dinosaur, the other attraction in this area, will stay open throughout 2025! Disney will close other parts of the land first to work on the transformation, and it’s sounding like the last (or close to last) closure will be Dinosaur to allow guests more time to ride. “Get that dino!” Also in Animal Kingdom, we’ll say goodbye to It’s Tough to be A Bug in the Tree of Life! It’ll be replaced with a Zootopia themed show called Zootopia: Better Zoogether! We’re really looking forward to this new attraction — while some of our team will miss this nostalgic show, others are happy to see it and its scary animatronics and frightening bug features go away for good. It’s Tough to be A Bug! 13. Disney is certainly no stranger to buying up the rights to other intellectual properties. ©Disney We’ve seen it with Pixar, Lucasfilm, Marvel, and more recently with the exclusive streaming rights for Bluey in the United States on Disney+. Now, an iconic children’s program’s future is up in the air — could Disney be the one to save it? Sesame Street’s future is up in the air as the long-running show looks for a home to air new original episodes. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. Discovery has opted not to renew the output deal it had on HBO and Max. ©Sesame Street Max will continue to license episodes from the Sesame Street library through 2027, with the upcoming Season 55 still being available on Max starting next month. Max has chosen to change its strategy and focus more on adult and family programming, with less emphasis on kids’ shows like Sesame Street. ©Sesame Street “It has been a wonderful, creative experience working with everyone at Sesame Street on the iconic children’s series and we are thrilled to be able to keep some of the library series on Max in the U.S.,” a Max spokesperson shared. “As we’ve launched Max though and based on consumer usage and feedback, we’ve had to prioritize our focus on stories for adults and families, and so new episodes from Sesame Street, at this time, are not as core to our strategy.” Big Bird The show had been on HBO since 2016 (with episodes later airing on PBS) and moved to Max in 2019. Now, it’s possible that many major media companies — including Disney — could be interested in the show due to its name and long-lasting popularity. But, Netflix, AppleTV+, and Prime Video don’t necessarily already have the strong catalog of kids’ programming that Disney does. ©Sesame Street As of now, Disney hasn’t made any sort of announcements or grumblings about potentially picking this iconic show up, but they’ve been known to acquire different intellectual properties in the past, so we certainly wouldn’t be shocked if it ended up happening. If it does, we’ll definitely let you know! In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for any potential updates on this and the latest Disney news. 14. I go to Disney World a lot. Like more than a normal person. Naturally, over the years, I’ve picked up a few habits as I travel through the Orlando International Airport, and it turns out one of my silly little rituals could be going mainstream. Orlando International Airport Most airports are pretty basic. You’ve got the McDonald’s restaurant with a mile-long line for a mediocre breakfast sandwich. You’ve got the terminals with outlets that don’t work. There’s the airport gift shop with the tempting candy display (and books, if you’re a nerd like me). And at the Orlando Airport, there’s also a fan-favorite detail that must NEVER be removed: the Airside Carpet. …and tons of other people, apparently. These socks SOLD OUT before I could get ahold of them. Who knew carpet socks would be such a hot seller! ©Rock ‘Em Socks Well, I may not have the socks, but at least I have the memories. Next time you’re at the airport, snap a pic of that classic carpet for me and tag @disneyfoodblog! We can start a new photo tradition. 15. There are some celebrities that aren’t just Disney Legends, but also legends in the minds of anyone who has ever come across their work. ©Disney In fact, some celebrities spark so much joy that you can’t help but smile when you think about them because they’ve made that much of a significant impact on you. Well, for us, one of those celebrities is the ICONIC Van Dyke, who just happens to be celebrating a HUGE milestone today: the Disney Legend just turned 99 years old. That’s right, today, December 13th, marks Van Dyke’s 99th year on this earth and how lucky are we to have existed at the same time as him! He’s one of our most beloved stars, especially for us Disney fans who will always remember him as Bert from Mary Poppins. ©Disney was born in West Plains, Missouri, and after serving in the Air Force during World War II, he started performing in a pantomime act that toured the entire country. He then broke into local television in Atlanta and made guest appearances on many variety shows like Ed Sullivan, Dinah Shore, and Jack Paar. His talent eventually landed him in a Broadway musical, although he’d never taken a singing or dancing lesson (no, REALLY!). He ended up winning a Tony Award in 1960 for Bye Bye Birdie and later repeated that role in the movie. ©Columbia Pictures In 1961, was cast as the lead in the TV show The Van Dyke Show — he won the Emmy Award for that role for three consecutive years. Then, lucky for us, Walt Disney himself approached the actor about playing Bert in Mary Poppins. ended up playing Bert AND the chairman of the bank at the end of the film — he also later played the son of that chairman in a cameo in Mary Poppins Returns. EPIC. ©Disney Of course, he’s been in NUMEROUS movies and TV shows, including The Golden Girls, Tracy, Diagnosis Murder, and more. The man is a STAR. He was inducted as a Disney Legend in 1998, and to this day, still remains a Legend AND a LEGEND. More importantly, though, Van Dyke is STILL working in entertainment and most recently starred in Coldplay’s video for “All My Love.” At 99 years old, y’all — this man is still giving it his all, and we can’t help but be amazed. So you keep being you, Mr. Van Dyke, and we’ll keep loving you for it. 17. 2024 is quickly coming to an end before our eyes. Magic Kingdom It might come as a shock, but we are already nearly halfway through December. In less than a month, we’ll be counting down to the new year and trying to remember to write 2025 instead of 2024 on anything we’re adding a date to. As we look toward 2025 and the new year of possibilities, it’s also fun to look behind us and reflect on all the good, exciting, and happy things that have passed in 2024. This was an eventful year in the world of Disney, and we want to celebrate some of the best things that happened. So come along with us as we remember all the great announcements, changes, endings, and beginnings for Disney and Disney fans in 2024! Announcements from D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event August 2024 brought us a TON of exciting announcements from Disney! While some were a bit controversial or even expected, there were a few that stand out to us as being extremely exciting and have us eager for the coming years ahead. Villains Land Disney fans have been BEGGING for a Villains Land for a while now, and Disney finally gave us the very exciting news that one is officially coming to Magic Kingdom! Villains Land ©Disney The new land will go beyond Big Thunder Mountain and will take us into a realm of darkness and villainy. We’re SO excited to explore this new concept and land! Nighttime Parade in Magic Kingdom It has been a long time since Magic Kingdom had a nighttime parade, so when this was announced for 2025, Disney fans cheered! ©Disney Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away is the first nighttime since 2016, and we can’t wait to see it in all its twinkling glory in the coming summer. Avengers E-Ticket Ride Coming to Disney California Adventure Disney World wasn’t the only Disney resort that got exciting announcements in August! Disney California Adventure got some love, too. Disney is bringing TWO new Marvel rides to Avengers Campus, including the long-awaited E-ticket ride Avengers Infinity Defense! Avengers Infinity Defense will have guests join in battle across the multiverse alongside the Avengers to defeat King Thanos and recover stolen Stark technology. The other ride is called Stark Flight Lab, and with the addition of these two new rides, Avengers Campus will DOUBLE in size. Monsters, Inc. Land Yes, the exciting news of the Monsters, Inc. Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is slightly controversial since it has recently been announced that it will replace Muppets Courtyard, but we’re still excited for Mike and Sully to get their own land at a Disney park! ©Disney We’ll get to explore Monsters, Inc. and the city of Monstropolis. Millennial hearts are bursting with excitement thanks to this 2024 news! Muppets Heading to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster One good thing that came out of the sad news that Monsters, Inc. Land would replace Muppets Courtyard was that the Muppets are heading to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster! ©Disney We’re happy that the Muppets won’t be removed completely from Hollywood Studios! While we’re still dealing with some other parts of the news, we are celebrating this small win for the Muppets. Bayou Country Merge Over at Disneyland, Disney has created a more cohesive land with the new creation of Bayou Country. EPCOT Transformation Being Completed After YEARS of being under construction, the final piece of EPCOT’s transformation was completed this past year! Communicore Hall CommuniCore Hall and Plaza opened in June, marking the end of the extended transformation. TRON Getting a Standby Line That’s it! TRON getting rid of its virtual queue and having a standby line instead is what we’re celebrating! TRON We no longer have to try to get a virtual queue for this ride in the morning or afternoon! We can just walk right up and get in line. It’s seriously so wonderful, even if the line is typically pretty long here. Star Lord in EPCOT Fans of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy are likely rejoicing that they finally get to meet Star Lord, a.k.a. Peter Quill, at EPCOT! 18. It’s time for a celebration! ©Disney Parks Blog We love seeing Disney’s animals living their adorable lives over at Disney’s Animal Kingdom each time we visit, and one of our favorites is the African elephants. These gentle giants never fail to take our breath away, but today, Disney is celebrating something extra special in the park — Corra, the youngest elephant, turns ONE! We’ve been dying for a baby elephant update ever since Corra was first born, so it’s safe to say we are SUPER excited about this news. That’s right! To celebrate this big milestone, Corra’s keepers surprised her with an early birthday party! Of course, the celebration called for some of her favorites — sweet potato, bamboo, and peanut butter. ©Disney Curious and rambunctious, Corra left a little bit of a mess, but hey, we get it! We’re all excited about our birthdays, too, and can get a little ahead of ourselves. ©Disney Her mom, Nadirah, also joined in on the fun and snagged a treat or two herself, which we love! ©Disney Right now, you can often see Corra with the rest of the family herd, made up of her mom Nadirah, aunts Stella and Luna, and grandmother Donna on Kilimanjaro Safaris! However, when you don’t see Corra, it’s because she’s back with her keepers, hitting all sorts of important milestones, just like she was this past year. ©Disney Looking for more Animal Kingdom news? 19. Disney World is a place where dreams can come true and imagination has no limits…but that doesn’t mean we’ll do absolutely everything each visit. A gloomy Magic Kingdom As a millennial, I can safely say that our generation just does Disney World differently. There are quite a few of us on the DFB staff and we don’t shy away from expressing our thoughts and feelings about a Disney vacation. From examining Disney trends to reminiscing in old Disney nostalgia, Disney Adult millennials have a lot to say about the Disney Parks, including all the things we REFUSE to do when we visit Disney World. We polled our team and came up with five things millennials just won’t do at Disney World. Are we overreacting? Did we leave some pretty serious things off the list? Read ahead and find out! We’re going to Disney World! Riding Attractions That Hurt Us As of this writing, millennials are between the ages of 28 and 43 which means we’re slowly starting to feel the effects of aging. With this comes some extra sensitivity to certain attractions at Disney World. Space Mountain Our bodies just don’t hold up like they used to. Rides like Space Mountain and Mission: SPACE are often no-can-dos for millennials. Typically, we’re going to try to avoid rides that reconstruct our spines, slam our heads around, or give us motion sickness. Honestly, this mood isn’t just limited to millennials. If you’re no longer a teenage or younger, the truth is that you may feel similarly, regardless of generation. Mission Space Fortunately, Disney World’s offerings are eclectic and there are plenty of suitable attractions that won’t make us regret our choices. From calm dark rides like Haunted Mansion to smooth thrill rides like Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, Disney World still offers enough fun to keep us coming back for more. Wait In A Long Line Without A Drink When it comes to long lines, “ain’t nobody got time for that”. Still, at Disney World, they’re pretty hard to avoid. When we find ourselves looking down a queue with no end in sight, some liquid courage goes a long way. Cosmic Rewind Queue Time flies when you have a good drink in hand. Whether it’s a refreshing kid-friendly concoction, a comforting morning coffee, or a fun EPCOT cocktail, waiting doesn’t seem so bad when your thirst is quenched. Fruited Sour Beer and Sparkling Wine Cocktail We’re constantly trying new drinks and posting our reviews, so check back frequently to stay up-to-date on the best sips at Disney World! Everything You NEED to Eat and Drink at the 2024 EPCOT Festival of the Holidays Use Maps Millennials can be a prideful, stubborn bunch, and we can put that on full display when we visit the parks. EPCOT Map Whether you’re a local or a Disney World expert, one thing feels certain — you don’t need a map. In fact, relying on a map for anything other than wait times can feel like a failure. Disney Adult millennials like to think we know what we’re doing and that we can navigate the parks blindfolded. Does this confidence get us in to trouble? It may, but at the same time we’re super invested in our Disney Adult fandom, and we truly can get by most of the time on the knowledge we’ve collected over the years. ©Disney Of course, there’s absolutely no shame in using a map if needed. I personally say all the time “Walk with purpose” and you can’t do that if you have no idea where you’re going. The My Disney Experience app is super helpful when you need to know where to go, and if you need a refresher on it check out our guide below! My Disney Experience — The Online Planning Tool for Your Walt Disney World Vacation Rope Drop Look, I get that waking up early is a productive way to start your day. Rope dropping — the process of showing up to a theme park before it opens so you can get on your favorite rides — can also be an effective way to do as much as possible during your day at the Disney Parks. But, like, do you really need to? Crowds at rope drop in Hollywood Studios You can call us lazy, naive, or whatever you’d like, but the fact remains that many of us aren’t exactly early birds, nor do we want to spend 12 hours running around a theme park. It’s important to remember that, ultimately, you’re on vacation so you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it, regardless of what anyone says. Rope Drop Crowds If you love rope dropping and starting your day off with a flurry, that’s awesome. If you want to sleep in, get a good breakfast, take it slow, and then tackle the parks later in the day, that’s cool too. Just have fun, and if that means avoiding rope drop (which it absolutely does for this millennial), then you do you! Take For Granted Convenience A Disney World vacation takes a ton of meticulous planning in addition to a hefty budget. It can be a lot, which is why millennials will always take advantage of convenience whenever it’s offered. Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway Lightning Lane Lines are too long? We’re experts at using Disney tech and and have no problem ponying up a little bit more for Lightning Lanes. Is the weather a killer or are the parks a bit too overwhelming? Forget the itinerary and find a moment to take a break and regain some calm. We’re all about self-care. Are the parks supposed to be extra crowded on certain days we were considering attending? We’ll take that into consideration and adjust our vacation plans. We are always on the lookout for ways to make life at Disney just a little bit easier. Ah. Peaceful… The thing to really note about millennials and Disney World is that we’ve given so much life to the whole Disney Adult craze, and with that comes so much passion. We have really strong takes and go about our park days very seriously. But with that said, we love Disney World and really just want to have a great time, which is a sentiment that can be shared across all generations. If we avoid anything, it’s only in an effort to make our trip even better. Magic Kingdom If you’re a millennial that loves to go to Disney World, what are some things you always avoid? 20. One of the biggest problems Disney World quick-service restaurants face has nothing to do with the food. Chicken Guy! No, one of the biggest issues that we hear about from our readers (and that we also often complain about) is the lack of seating. Why is it so hard to find seating at some Disney World quick-service locations? That’s the case in the parks, but it’s also the case for some restaurants in Disney Springs. Well, one Disney Springs restaurant has recently solved that problem for its visitors. We noticed construction walls going up at Chicken Guy!, the restaurant owned by Guy Fieri, in Disney Springs. We learned that the restaurant would be expanding and adding a brand new covered seating area. There was even concept art of what the new seating area would look like on the construction walls. Chicken Guy construction walls Well, we’ve got some great news — the construction is complete and the new seating area is open! We wandered over to Chicken Guy! recently to check it out and were there the day the new seating area opened to visitors. You can see the new seating area in this photo. NEW seating area! The sign next to the new seating area is new, too! Got a new sign, too. We even saw folks using the new area, which was sorely needed. This is a popular dining spot in Disney Springs and we expect to see it used pretty often. There it is! Of course, we’re still mourning the loss of many of the sauces here, so we’d just like to put in a personal plea to bring all the sauces back, okay, Mr. Fieri? PLEASE? Considering those sauces were once the restaurant’s big selling point, we think it could make a LOT of folks happy, but also us…it would make us happy. Stay tuned to DFB for more. 21. 2025 is a big year for new things coming to Disney World! Disney’s Animal Kingdom From new entertainment options to new dining locations to new attractions, we’ve got a long list of things we’ll be checking out in the parks. But one of those big additions is found INSIDE a park icon…and there’s a big reason we’re excited about its arrival! Disney announced a while back that a new show would be coming to the Tree of Life Theater in Animal Kingdom. Currently, the theater is home to “It’s Tough to Be a Bug,” which is a short 4-D film themed to the Pixar movie A Bug’s Life. It’s Tough To Be a Bug “It’s Tough to Be a Bug” is a controversial attraction, often known for scaring children with its loud noises, dark atmosphere, and ya know, the GIANT SPIDERS that drop from the ceiling during the show. Because of this, many were relieved to hear that the new show coming to the theater would be themed to Zootopia. The Hopper animatronic The new offering’s name is “Zootopia: Better Zoogether!” It will take visitors on “an adventure through different biomes seen in the film.” The show will feature fan-favorite characters like Judy Hopps, Nick Wilde, and more. ©Disney It’s set to open in the Tree of Life Theater in the winter of 2025, but that means that there’s another reason to get excited about it — the new Zootopia 2 movie is coming to theaters in 2025 as well! Does this mean we could get NEW characters or storylines from the sequel in the Animal Kingdom show? We sure hope so! ‘Zootopia 2’ In the new sequel, we’ll see favorite characters like Mr. Big, Officer Clawhauser, and Flash the sloth (if he can make it) return. We’ll be introduced to a new neighborhood, Marsh Market, and a new pal — Nibbles, a beaver. Marsh Market is an area where semi-aquatic mammals live, so we expect to encounter new animals and characters there during the film. Reptiles are coming to Zootopia! With all these new friends in the movie, we’re hoping that some of them pop up in the stage show as well! And who knows? Maybe this could open us up to having Zootopia character meets in the Discovery Island Trails around the Tree of Life. How exciting! Discovery Island Trails Either way, we’ll have to wait and see when more details about the show and the movie are announced. 25. Okay, we need to talk about a Disney World park that gets even better in the winter. Christmas Tree in Animal Kingdom We know, we know, the ONLY reason to visit Disney World during winter is generally for the holiday season. And when you think holiday season, you probably think of Magic Kingdom and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party or EPCOT and the EPCOT Festival of the Holidays. You may even think of Santa Gertie at Hollywood Studios, as well as Jollywood Nights. But where’s the Animal Kingdom love? Well, we’re going to tell you why Animal Kingdom is even BETTER in the winter and if you’re not spending time there in the colder months, you’re TOTALLY missing out. Surprise! If you’ve been watching DFB videos (if not, where you at?!) then you may have heard that her favorite Disney World park is Animal Kingdom. So, inspired by that fact, here’s why Animal Kingdom is even better in the winter. You can see it after dark Animal Kingdom is great in the spring and summer — don’t get us wrong, but the park generally closes before the sun sets, so you don’t get to see it at night. That means you miss out on Pandora turning into a glowing bioluminescent world, which happens after dark (and it’s really the BEST version of Pandora). P:andora was MEANT to be seen at night It also means you’ll miss the Tree of Light Awakenings projection show, which starts at sunset and happens every ten minutes leading up to park closing. Throughout the holiday season, the projections are holiday-themed and show winter-inspired scenes. Tree of Life Awakenings — Winter Edition In the winter, the sun sets earlier and you get to experience both of these things. 3 Souvenirs Every Animal Kingdom Lover Is Buying for Christmas This Year A New Show will premiere You’ll also want to visit winter 2025 because the new Zootopia show is set to premiere inside the Tree of Life (replacing It’s Tough To Be A Bug. The show is called “Zootopia: Better Zoogether” and will bring some of your favorite Zootopia characters to Animal Kingdom, including Judy Hopps, Nick Wilde, and more. ©Disney Disney has promised the production “will take guests on an adventure through different biomes seen in the film.” It’s set to open in late 2025, unless Disney delays it (which does occasionally happen, but we can hope it stays on schedule). Everything we know about Zootopia: Better Zoogether Merry Menagerie If you visit Animal Kingdom during the holiday season, you’ll also get to see The Merry Menagerie, wandering winter animal puppets that stroll along Discovery Island. You can interact with the puppets while nearby musicians help set the scene. The Merry Menagerie Even if you’re not a holiday person, The Merry Menagerie could change your mind. Also, if you’re already a fan of The Merry Menagerie, be sure to visit the DFB Store to find Merry Menagerie ornaments, sweatshirts, blankets, glass sippers, and more! Grab Merry Menagerie Merchandise Here! Get that dino one last time In case you missed it, DinoLand U.S.A. is going to be closing in phases to be replaced by Pueblo Esperanza, a new Tropical Americas-themed land. You’re going to want to visit Animal Kingdom ASAP so you can ride the attraction one more time and say goodbye to Dr. Grant Seeker and his dino friends. Dr. Grant Seeker will be unemployed soon Disney has recently revealed that Dinosaur would remain through 2025, but we don’t have an exact closing date, so you’ll want to ride it before the year ends. We’ll keep an eye out for more details, though, and let you know what we learn! Everything we know about the new land coming to Animal Kingdom So, yes, the absolute best time to visit Animal Kingdom is in the winter and you’ll miss out if you don’t experience it at least once during the cooler months (yes, it can get cooler in Florida in the winter, believe it or not).
