Ahoy there! We’re here aboard the NEW Disney Treasure cruise ship and bringing you all the ship details you could possibly want! Disney Treasure The latest addition to the Disney Cruise Line, the Disney Treasure is set to make its maiden voyage on December 21st, 2024, but we were invited to set sail a bit early aboard the new vessel! That means we got an early look at Plaza de Coco, the Coco-themed dining experience onboard the ship! We’re experiencing everything and anything the Disney Treasure has to offer, so for all the latest comprehensive coverage and all the info you need to know about sailing on the Disney Cruise Line’s latest addition to its fleet, check out our guide below! Disney Cruise Line — The Disney Treasure Cruise Ship We’re going to take an in-depth look at Plaza de Coco, which is part of the ship’s rotational dining. Cruisers get two evenings of a Coco-themed dinner entertainment experience as well as a menu that “draws inspiration from Miguel’s colorful world.” Night 1 is a festive gathering of familia, starring the Rivera family, while the second night is a celebration of Dia de los Muertos featuring Miguel reuniting with his great-grandparents thanks to a magical guitar. MAGICAL. Let’s go! Let’s step inside! Atmosphere Plaza de Coco is set in the town of Santa Cecilia from the Coco film. Disney has been working on this restaurant concept for five years and it’s finally come to fruition. One of the most unique design details is a family Ofrenda, decorated with flowers and framed photos of family members who have passed on. This Ofrenda was built in Florida. The Ofrenda is GORGEOUS All of the details in the restaurant are inspired by the movie and it feels like you’re stepping right into that world. Rivera family tree Also, CAT. Because it’s a cat Every detail has been carefully thought out to make this feel as immersive as possible. Take time to check out all the details Seating is communal style with tables and chairs. In Plaza de Coco, we’re all family! The seating situation Y’all, even the plates are INCREDIBLE. Why am I crying over a plate? Of course, the entertainment here is top-notch (as you would expect). Disney held auditions in Mexico for the actors, so this experience is authentic as it gets. It’s dinner and a show! Also, seeing Miguel reunited with his great-grandparents was AMAZING. Um…who’s cutting onions up in here? SO sweet Okay, enough about that…(sniffle). Let’s talk about the food… Eats Speaking of little details…the kid’s menu is shaped like a guitar. Um…LOVE IT. How cute! The regular menu includes Mexican classics like Chicken Tortilla Soup, a Mexican Bolillo Bread Service, Enchiladas, Tacos, and other specialties. We started with the Red Chicken Enchiladas with Guajillo Spiced Red Enchilada Sauce, and Chihuahua Cheese. We’ve never met an enchilada we didn’t like, and this one was good, but not great. We’d compare it to a standard Mexican restaurant dish. The chicken inside the enchilada was shredded and the flour tortilla did a good enough job doing its thing, but we’re not going to lie when we thought about this being a “run to the border” experience over an elevated dining experience. But, hey, sometimes Taco Bell DOES hit, so this could be your thing. The peppers and onions mixed in with the meat did make the enchiladas flavorful and added a nice crunch, though. A step up from Taco Bell We decided to try the Chipotle Black Bean Soup with Cilantro, Lime, Purple Onion, and Mamá Coco’s Pork Tamale. Of the appetizers we tried, this was probably our fave. It was just a black bean soup, but it was cooked so well and a nice low heat just to let you know it was there. The soup was also served with a cut of a pork tamale that held up better than we expected, but the soup didn’t need it. Plus we thought the pork almost had a hotdog flavor to it — so that’s um…weird. But the soup on its own? Chef’s Kiss. This soup slapped We also tried the Watermelon, Orange, and Jicama Salad with Endive, Avocado, and Lime-Demerara Sugar Dressing. This was light and fresh and a nice break from all that other heavy cruise food. The avocado adds a nice texture to the salad plus balances out the acidity of the fruit. We could also taste just a hint of salt that brightened up the flavors. Did it make us feel bonita? Yes, we felt bonita! A nice light salad We then ordered the Celeriac, Herb Guacamole, Blue Corn Chips with Jalapeño Chile, Cherry Tomatoes, and Lemon Crema. It was…well, this guac was okay. However, the chips were soggy (so WEIRD) and we got like THREE — like that isn’t even enough for all the guacamole you get. We need more chips Our final appetizer was the Beef Birria Empanada, a Baked Pastry Turnover with Pulled Beef Brisket, Oaxaca Cheese, Pico de Gallo, and Birria Consommé. What a disappointment! The pastry is nice and flaky, but the meat inside is dry and bland. This should be juicy, like typical birria. Disappointing. Next up was entrees. We started with Imelda Rivera’s Roasted Chicken Breast Mole with Roasted Chicken Breast, Cacao Mole Sauce, Red Rice, Pickled Onion, Sesame Seeds, and Soft Flour Tortilla. We love a mole, but we wished for more chocolate or cinnamon tone to this one. However, we understand that Disney is trying to play it safe and appeal to a variety of taste palettes. We squeezed some lime juice on it, but it didn’t make up for the bland sauce. Everything accompanying it was fine, and we would order it again because the chicken was moist, but we still would’ve loved more flavor. This mole wasn’t…mole-ing Another entree we tried was the Ernesto de la Cruz’s Grilled Seafood and Tomato Rice made with Jasmine Rice, Grilled Shrimp, Calamari and Scallops, Castelvetrano Olive, Caper, Pinto Bean, Green Onions, and Tomato. So, knowing Ernesto, we weren’t TOO surprised that he let us down with this one. The flavors were bland, the rice was chewy, and the tomato sauce was almost sweet enough to be ketchup. The seafood also surprised us because it didn’t have a lot of flavor, although it added some saltiness (and at this point, we’re already feeling pretty salty). The scallops, though, were seared perfectly, and we did end up liking those. Ernesto, no… The Rib-Eye “De Corte Grande” is served with Oaxaca-Monterey Jack Cheese Double-baked Potato, Buttered Broccoli, Sweet Honey-roasted Carrots, and Tamarind Port Wine Sauce. Okay, this was an entree we liked, although the steak was a bit on the dry side (we’ll forgive it this time). The veggies were fresh and we love the sweetness of the honey-roasted carrots. However, the double-baked potatoes were the thing on this plate we liked the least, but overall we would order this again. Not bad Another entree we ordered was the Michoacán Carnitas with Crisp Pulled Pork, Pickled Red Onions, Cilantro-Lime Rice, Guacamole, and Salsa Roja Asada. This is basically a make-your-own taco experience — you get the ingredients and you put it all together. The carnitas are prepared well — the pork is slow-cooked and then crisped in a traditional method (and no, you won’t find this at Chipotle). Our server recommended this and it was mostly a win. But again…it was SO bland. We’ve come to expect that from Disney, but STILL, it’s disappointing. Make your own carnitas Okay, it’s time for dessert, so we got our sweet tooth ready for the Cappuccino Crème Brûlee Cheesecake, which is a Baked Vanilla Cheesecake with Caramelized Coffee Crème Brûlée. Coffee, cheesecake, AND crème brûlee in one dessert? How could we not? But, y’all, it was good, but just not great. Most of the flavor reminded us more of a chocolate flan, so we didn’t get that coffee flavor. The bottom was also a little weird because it was kind of a chocolatey graham cracker crust thing, but it could’ve been so much more, and we couldn’t help thinking that. It was okay Maybe Miguel’s Churros Calientes would satisfy our sweet tooth a little better? These Sugar Spiced Churros are served with Warm Cajeta Caramel. They were soft…and almost chewy, which is NOT what a churro should be. However, they were perfectly sweet and sugary. Kids will probably like these. Soggy churros Héctor Rivera’s Sundae with Dulce de Leche Ice Cream, Banana Bread, Cinnamon Fried Tortilla, and Whipped Cream was a crowd-pleaser, though. In fact, when we left the restaurant, we asked if we could take it with us (and we did). It was INCREDIBLE. The dulce de leche ice cream was SO creamy and then you have the crunch of the fried tortilla, as well as its cinnamon sugar flavor. The banana bread at the bottom, though, gets overpowered, but we didn’t mind because the rest of this dessert was such a hit. This is the dessert we’ll go “Un Poco Loco” over. Now, this was good. The Grand Central Station Pecan Tart is made with Roasted Pecan Nuts, Brown Sugar Custard, and Salted Caramel Creme. This dessert also surprised us — in a good way. It’s got a classic pecan pie taste and we LOVED the roasted pecans on top that make the flavor that much more nuttier. Our fave dessert This isn’t as sweet as a pecan pie, though, because it’s just a little bit in a tart shell, so it’s well-balanced. That burnt caramel sauce on the plate also blends SO well with the toasted nut flavor. This one is another win for us. Overall So, here’s the thing. We like our Mexican food a bit spicy. Like if our lips aren’t burning after a meal, is it really Mexican food? But Disney played it safe here, for good reason, because this is a rotational dining restaurant that everyone will pretty much visit. Still, it would’ve been nice to have seen some menu items with that spicy pepper symbol next to them for those of us who want the heat turned up. Overall, though, the food here is fine, although it’s not a lot to write home about. It’s standard, so you’re coming here for the experience of dining in a Coco-themed setting with great entertainment. And when you look at it that way, it’s still an experience you’ll probably want to have aboard the Disney Treasure. Pro tip: arrive early for this dinner seating because the show starts right about when your appetizers arrive. Also, be sure to check out the wine list: they’re sourced from a family winery in Mexico. Are you excited about this new offering aboard the Disney Treasure? The Disney refurbishment list is still growing. EPCOT January 6th is shaping up to be quite a day at Disney World. We already know that the first Monday in January will see the closure of not one but two of the resort’s more popular people-eating attractions. The Magic Kingdom’s Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is closing for a refurbishment that is scheduled to last AT LEAST a year, with a reopening date of sometime in 2026. Next, Animal Kingdom’s Kali River Rapids attraction is closing for its annual winter refurbishment, with a scheduled reopening date of March 2025. Now, we know we can add another attraction to that list. As Disney confirmed in mid-December 2024, the Gran Fiesta Tour will ALSO be closing for refurbishment on January 6th, 2025. According to Disney, the EPCOT attraction will be closed for just over two months, with a scheduled reopening date on March 15th, 2025. While the Gran Fiesta Tour isn’t usually thought of as a headlining attraction at EPCOT, it is one of only three rides in the park’s World Showcase area, and its closure could put even more strain on the popular Frozen Ever After and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure attractions located in Norway and France respectively. Gran Fiesta Tour The attraction, which Disney describes as a “gentle cruise down the Rio Grande on a dark boat ride past some of the most famous sights and cities in Mexico” featuring the Three Caballeros, technically opened at EPCOT in 2007. However, the essential core of the attraction located in the park’s Mexico Pavilion has existed at the park since it opened as El Rio del Tiempo on opening day in 1982. The Three Caballeros, EPCOT’s Gran Fiesta Tour is joining the list of Disney attractions closing for refurbishment on January 6th. Stay tuned to DFB for more on Disney World’s refurbishment calendar. Ahoy there! We’re here aboard the NEW Disney Treasure cruise ship and bringing you allll the ship details you could possibly want! ©Disney The latest addition to the Disney Cruise Line, the Disney Treasure, is set to make its maiden voyage on December 21st, 2024, but we were invited to set sail aboard the new vessel for the inaugural trip! While we’re here, we’ve had a chance to experience the 1923 restaurant on this ship. You’ll also find 1923 on the Disney Wish, but how did it fare on the newest ship? We found out! We’re experiencing everything and anything the Disney Treasure has to offer, so for all the latest comprehensive coverage and all the info you need to know about sailing on the Disney Cruise Line’s latest addition to its fleet, check out our guide below! Disney Cruise Line — The Disney Treasure Cruise Ship We’re taking an in-depth look at 1923 aboard the Disney Treasure! This is a restaurant with California-inspired food and is named for the year The Walt Disney Company was founded. The restaurant is part of the rotational dining experience on the two ships, Disney Wish and Disney Treasure, so you’ll likely dine here for at least one night of your cruise. (Rotational dining means that you’ll enjoy one of three immersive restaurants on the Treasure each night of your cruise.) Now, let’s dive in! Atmosphere All around 1923, you’ll find beautiful works of art as the restaurant celebrates the golden age of animation. Drawings line the walls and even some of the menus. 1923 It’s a timeless restaurant that transports you back to 1923. From the table setting to the decor, you’ll feel like you’re dining at a ritzy establishment in the golden age of Hollywood. Table setting The restaurant is a great testament to Walt Disney and all Disney has accomplished over 100 years. But enough about the aesthetic, let’s dig in! Eats You’ll find a menu featuring appetizers, salads… Appetizers …soups, bread service… Soups and bread service …entrees… Entrees …and lighter notes. Lighter notes The drink menu is extensive, including cocktails, zero-proof drinks, after dinner options, a list of bourbons, and wines. From sparkling wine to whites to reds to dessert wines, there’s something on the menu for everyone. Drink menu Of course, there is also a dessert menu! This menu has some tasty sweet treat options, such as Old Fashion Apple Pie, The Captain’s Table Sundae, Chocolate Lava Cake, and the no-sugar added option of Chocolate Cheesecake. YUM! Dessert menu Okay, enough about what we could eat, and let’s get into what we did eat! We think you’re going to enjoy this. First up, we started with some bread. These are simple little Sourdough Bread rolls — nothing too special — but a nice way to start the meal. We had both butter and olive oil and rosemary to accompany the bread, which was a thoughtful touch. Bread Service After a little bread, we needed something salty. We ordered the Sliced Prosciutto, Coppa, and Soppressata, which comes with Modena Balsamic Grape Tomatoes, a Rosemary Sea Salt Crisp, and Parmesan-Reggiano. We’ll be honest here. This was pretty basic charcuterie. A lot of the things on this plate are the same meats and cheeses you can get at a quick-service spot like Marceline Market, but hey — don’t let that stop you from ordering this! It’s salty and simple, but sometimes, that’s exactly what we’re craving. Sliced Prosciutto, Coppa, Soppressata Appetizer number two came in the form of Double-baked Three Cheese Soufflé, a cheesy concoction of Roquefort, Gruyere, Goats Cheese, and Baby Leaf Spinach. All that cheese sounds like a dream to us (we’re cheese people here at DFB), but overall, it was just okay. The dish was light and fluffy but in a sort of weird way. It was so airy and fluffy that it was almost like a cheese version of a marshmallow. Double-baked Three Cheese Soufflé The good news is that even if you’re not a big fan of spinach, it’s so finely chopped that the flavor isn’t distracting or overwhelming. Each bite gave us plenty of warm, creamy cheese — just what we wanted! YUM! The menu also has a section titled “From The Kettle,” so naturally, we had to see what kind of magic a Disney kettle could produce. We went for the White Onion Soup, made with Comté Cheese, Toasted Caraway Seeds, and French Bread Croutons. First of all, we’re here to say that anything made with Comté Cheese is automatically better. And yes, this was our favorite part of our entire meal in 1923! It was silky smooth and pretty robust flavor-wise. The crunchy croutons were heavenly. The croutons (yes, we’re still talking about the croutons) had the perfect crunch while soaking up the onion soup, and they were slightly garlicky as well. Ugh — this was such a great soup. Bravo, Magic Disney Kettle! White onion soup Alright. Now, let’s get serious. It’s time for the entrees! Before you, you’ll see the Oven-baked Lobster Tail with Sun-dried Tomato Lemon-Pesto Mash, Roasted Asparagus, and Drawn Butter. Unfortunately, this was not the succulent lobster we dreamed it would be; this one was really dry on its own and almost tasteless. Oddly, there was no seasoning. Although the description listed Drawn Butter, ours came with no butter. A server offered to add some brown sugar, but we were really hoping for more flavor and seasoning. Honestly, this was a little tough to eat. Who knows, though! Maybe with a little butter and some spice, this could be improved. Oven-baked Lobster Tail If you’re looking for a safe bet, can a person ever go wrong with the chicken? We ordered the Roasted Green Circle Chicken Breast with Tagliatelle, Grappa, Morel Mushrooms, Tarragon Cream, Green Asparagus, and Parmesan-Reggiano. Good news! The chicken breast here was moist, flavorful, and cooked well. Roasted Green Circle Chicken Breast Additionally, the mushroom sauce was flavorful and really added a rich, earthy taste to the chicken. There were generous chunks of mushroom, and we were able to add parmesan to our liking. This was a great entrée, and we would absolutely order it again. This was excellent! Up next is the Pan-seared Barramundi Filet, served with Fennel, Cannellini Beans, Cerignola Olives, Sweet Pepper, Yukon Gold Potatoes, and a Saffron Broth. The fish was cooked very well and tasted quite fresh. We enjoyed the unique broth as it was extremely savory and gave the fish a nice lightness, which counteracted the strong fish taste — it perfectly mellowed out that salty taste of fish. This was a generous dish with a lot to love! Pan-seared Barramundi Filet If you’re craving pasta, you might want to try the Californian Riesling Risotto with Sweet Green Peas, Fava Beans, Malabar Spinach, and Toasted Pine Nuts. This risotto was super creamy (like any good risotto), but overall lacking in flavor. We loved the idea of the peas and fava beans, but you have to enjoy earthy, simple flavors to enjoy this dish. It just felt like the dish could use a touch more seasoning or garlic to really enhance the flavor. Although the risotto was cooked well, it was just a bit bland. Californian Riesling Risotto We were intrigued by the Seared Pork Tenderloin Medallions, too! This dish comes with Asiago Cheese-Sage Polenta, Rainbow Chard, Pancetta, and a Hard Cider Reduction. Again, the cooking itself was perfect, but we were missing that extra oomph due to a lack of seasoning. The pork was perfectly tender and will practically melt like butter in your mouth. That said, it lacked seasoning, and there was nothing stellar flavor-wise. The pancetta was firm and salty, but it felt like it was a bit out of place in the dish as a whole. Seared Pork Tenderloin Medallions If you’re ordering from the Allergy-Free menu, you might want to avoid the Potato Gnocchi. We’ll keep this brief. This was incredibly bland and sad. There was literally no flavor. The gnocchi felt very dense — too dense for our liking. Nothing on this dish could save it. We know this sounds harsh but trust us. Do yourself a favor and skip this if you can. Potato Gnocchi Finally, we must talk about our experience with the Juniper Marinated Venison Loin. This one features Tupelo Honey Parsnip Puree, Roasted Shallots, Heirloom Carrots, Game Chips, and Napa Valley Port Wine Jus. Unsurprisingly, the venison was a little on the gamey side (and a little overcooked), but the Port Wine Jus added a much-needed injection of flavor. This dish is salty, meaty, and pretty simple overall. If you’re not a fan of earthy, rich meat, you might want to avoid this one. Juniper Marinated Venison Loin Time for dessert! Let’s start with the Chocolate Lava Cake. This was the signature dessert on the menu, and it is ABSOLUTELY the one you should order. It is a molten lava cake, and let’s be honest, at this point, that’s a classic dessert. Sure, the Lava Cake used to be a newer, trendy dessert, but now, it’s a pretty classic treat. This version was super rich with a deep chocolate flavor, decadent dark chocolate, and some ice cream on the side. The vanilla bean ice cream is pretty rich as well, and this is just a luxurious-tasting dessert. Hands down, this is the best dessert on the menu here. Chocolate Lava Cake Fun fact! There is a sundae option at every rotational dining restaurant on the ship, and here, it’s The Captain’s Table Sundae. This is a delight for kids, and while sometimes the sundaes are fun, often it’s more about the LOOK than the taste. This is one that we would pass on. Sure, the sundae itself is cute, but when we’re comparing it to the other desserts on the menu, this one just isn’t as special. The Captain’s Table Sundae Our recommendation for Disney Cruises is to ask your server which night they think has the best sundae. They should have a pretty good opinion and give you a pretty good idea of the sundae lineup so you don’t wind up disappointed. Sundae OK, so the The no-sugar-added desserts in rotational dining are really not something you should overlook if you need to eat sugar-free desserts. In fact, you’re likely going to be really happy with these. We got the Chocolate Cheesecake and found that it was a smooth, high-quality dessert. It’s described as a Baked Cheesecake with a Chocolate Chiffon Spone Base. While we didn’t love this one as much as the Lava Cake, this was still a delightful little dish. It has a mousse-y consistency with lots of layers of cake, and if you like chocolate, this is a great option. Chocolate Cheesecake Next, we ordered the Old Fashioned Apple Pie with Braised Cinnamon Apples and Vanilla Ice Cream. This is a perfectly adequate apple pie. We would compare this one to a typical grocery store bakery apple pie. It is not bad, not fantastic. Just a sweet, cinnamon-y little pie to wrap up a meal. Old Fashioned Apple Pie Finally, on to the last dessert of the night! This is the Californian Grapefruit Cake with Vanilla Butter Cake, Grapefruit Glaze, and Cream Cheese Mousse. Now, if you’ve ever had the Grapefruit Cake at the Hollywood Brown Derby in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, you might feel a little let down by this version. This cake didn’t have enough grapefruit flavor for us and, therefore, was a pretty bland dessert. It was not overly sweet, but it probably lacked some sweetness here, even coming from someone who doesn’t like super-sweet desserts. Californian Grapefruit Cake The sponge was bouncy and light on the cake, and it was pretty, but it didn’t knock our socks off. Nosh or Not You definitely don’t want to miss this experience if… You are looking for a timeless, elegant atmosphere. From the decorations to the warm lighting, this restaurant is cozy and intimate yet classy and refined. This isn’t a Rainforest Cafe-style Disney restaurant, making it a great place for adults. You want a SHOW-STOPPING dessert. We’re still thinking about our Chocolate Lava Cake. While the other desserts were mostly simple and basic, that Lava Cake was powerful enough to boost our overall rating of this restaurant. YUM! If you’re going to skip 1923 on your cruise, it might be because… You’re not in the mood for a long meal. We get it — there’s a lot to see and do on vacation! Not everyone wants to take the time for a longer sit-down meal, and that’s okay. You’re dining with little ones. Sure, there’s a kid’s menu with plenty of safe choices for picky eaters, but if you have little ones with a short attention span and a particular palette, you might be better off at a quick-service spot. Have you ever been exploring Magic Kingdom and found yourself staring at a little yellow house nestled on Tom Sawyer Island? Aunt Polly’s on Tom Sawyer Island It’s cute, it’s cozy, and it’s definitely got a vibe, but if you’ve been wondering what it’s all about, you’re not alone. It’s one of the most low-key (and elusive) spots in all of Disney World! Let’s dive right into its story. As we were saying, if you’ve ever taken a raft ride over to Tom Sawyer Island in Magic Kingdom, you might have noticed a charming yellow house tucked among the trees. It’s got that cozy Southern vibe, complete with a front porch and rocking chairs that seem straight out of Mark Twain’s daydreams. That little house, my dear friends, is Aunt Polly’s Aunt Polly’s on Tom Sawyer Island A Peek into Aunt Polly’s History Aunt Polly’s has been around since the early days of Magic Kingdom, and was named after Tom Sawyer’s kind and caring aunt from Mark Twain’s classic novel. Originally, it was a quick-service dining spot serving Southern-inspired treats like sandwiches, snacks, and cold drinks. The idea was to offer guests a relaxing, picturesque place to recharge while exploring the island’s winding trails, caves, and fort. Becky’s Buttery Biscuit BBQ Pork Sliders from Aunt Polly’s in Magic Kingdom But here’s the thing: Aunt Polly’s hasn’t exactly had a consistent run. For years, it’s been a very seasonal dining location, opening its doors during especially busy times like peak holiday seasons. Even then, it’s never been a major go-to for dining, especially with all the other food options in Magic Kingdom. Aunt Polly’s Still, for those who managed to snag a seat on the porch with a snack and a view of the Rivers of America, it was a quiet little slice of magic. Why Is It So Quiet? One reason Aunt Polly’s hasn’t been a year-round hot spot is its location. You can only get there by raft, and while that’s part of the charm, it’s also a bit of a hurdle for most park-goers. We’re off to Tom Sawyer Island! Combine that with limited seating and a super pared-down menu in recent years, and it’s clear why this spot has flown under the radar. Aunt Polly’s Menu But for Disney purists, Aunt Polly’s has always held a nostalgic charm. It’s a remnant of a slower-paced Magic Kingdom, where sipping lemonade on a porch could be the highlight of your afternoon. The End of an Era Now, here’s the bittersweet news. Aunt Polly’s, and all of Tom Sawyer Island, will be closing permanently in 2025. In case you missed it, the new Cars area coming to Magic Kingdom will be replacing the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island. ‘Cars’ area in Magic Kingdom ©Disney While we’re excited about what’s to come, it’s always tough to say goodbye to a piece of Magic Kingdom history. Aunt Polly’s For now, Aunt Polly’s remains a quiet reminder of Magic Kingdom’s past, a place where you could trade the hustle and bustle of the park for a moment of old-fashioned charm. Root Beer Float from Aunt Polly’s In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for the latest news about this Magic Kingdom re-theme and expansion. Disney World is certainly an extremely magical place, but there’s also the fact that no matter how magical it is, negative things can still happen. Disney World Monorail Many times, that comes in the form of sickness or injury while you’re on vacation. We know that’s not fun for anyone involved, and it can really put a damper on your vacation, but things happen, and it’s important you know how to deal with them BEFORE you get to Disney World. Thankfully, Disney World now has many different offerings in place that make getting medical help a breeze. Disney has partnered with AdventHealth since 2019, but we really started to notice their presence in Disney World when they did temperature checks for guests entering the park in 2020 and 2021 following the COVID-19 closures. AdventHealth has also been made the official healthcare provider of Disney World, so that means there are fortunately a lot of options when it comes to medical help. Advent Health Cast Member at the former Temperature Screening areas There are tons of virtual options available in the My Disney Experience App that can assist you with a multitude of different issues. You’ll find options such as Athletic Training resources, runDisney resources, Emergency Room resources, Urgent Care and Virtual Care, a Care Concierge Call Center, Vacation Planning resources, and Equipment and Prescription Delivery. ©Disney | AdventHealth Yes, you can get prescriptions delivered TO Disney World thanks to Advent Health! They can be delivered to your Disney World hotel room by contacting AdventHealth at (407) 939-7480. Additionally, when you’re not feeling well or can’t move around too much, the last thing you want is to have to get up and go to an Urgent Care center, which is why we love that Telehealth visits are offered through AdventHealth on the My Disney Experience App! You can talk with a medical professional from your hotel room, let them know what’s going on, and learn the steps to take to get you to start feeling better. It’s available 24/7 too and no appointment is needed. The My Disney Experience app has an entire section dedicated to AdventHealth resources ©Disney However, if you do need to go to an Urgent Care, complimentary transportation to Centra Care Urgent Care, located INSIDE Disney World property at 12500 S. Apopka Vineland Rd, Lake Buena Vista, Florida, is offered to Disney World Resort guests. To organize transport, contact First Aid, Resort Front Desk Cast Members, or call AdventHealth at (407) 939-7480. Magic Kingdom First Aid Center There is also an emergency room located near Disney World that is owned by AdventHealth and Disney helped design! It’s located in Flamingo Crossings and is closest to Animal Kingdom. Unlike the Urgent Care location, this emergency room is open 24 hours a day, and features some incredibly calming imagery and music all over. When we visited, the emergency room was set up so that in the unfortunate situation that you do have to visit, you’ll immediately be taken back to a bed instead of having to wait in the lobby. Now, this could change depending on how many patients the hospital is attempting to treat, but we loved that patients can control the tone of the space of the rooms by changing the color of the lighting, choosing the music, or controlling the screen on the wall — really gives you a sense of control in an otherwise scary situation. AdventHealth ER However, if there’s a medical emergency happening inside one of the Disney World theme parks, your hotel, or anywhere on Disney World property, it’s best to locate the nearest Cast Member right away or call 911. If someone is having trouble breathing, someone has taken a nasty fall and appears to be bleeding badly, is unconscious, is having trouble moving or responding, or is otherwise having an issue that you feel needs to be addressed immediately, these are considered emergencies, and it’s best to contact 911 or talk to a Cast Member immediately. Disney World rides really are like no other. TRON Lightcycle / Run And they come in all shapes and sizes, from spinning rides shakers, and safaris and full-on roller coasters. The thing is that nothing lasts forever and will eventually retire, which got us thinking about how many rides will be permanently closing over the next year due to all the changes coming to Disney World. About that, we wanted to find out from you what your takes were on which rides would be next. Well, we asked and you delivered! We reached out to our followers on Facebook to ask: “We’re losing a lot of rides over the next couple of years. In your opinion, which Disney ride should go next?” We had quite a few people leave their opinions in the comments! What do you think? Now, let’s dive into some of your top responses! Swiss Family Treehouse Our reader Kristin started us off with, “Swiss Family Treehouse is forgettable. There was a much cooler jungle-themed play area in Disney California Adventure, which might require a bigger footprint, but was more fun than climbing the treehouse.” Swiss Family Treehouse Let’s face it, while the Swiss Family Treehouse has its nostalgic appeal, it’s not exactly a “must-visit” for most Disney-goers. Many of you agreed that the space could be reimagined into something more engaging. Could it be time to bid farewell to this relic? Flying Carpets of Aladdin Next, Elise pointed out, “Flying Carpets of Aladdin. MK has another spinner ride and it will open up the pathways in Adventureland so people aren’t as squished walking through that area.” Flying Carpets Elise isn’t wrong. Magic Kingdom already has Dumbo (and the Mad Tea Party). Meanwhile, the Flying Carpets can feel a bit redundant and, as Elise mentioned, a bit of a bottleneck for crowds in Adventureland. Tomorrowland Speedway It’s no surprise that Tomorrowland Speedway showed up in our poll. Christina named it outright, and Tom doubled down, saying, “The Speedway. So much could be done with that space.” Tomorrowland Speedway While the Speedway has its fans, many of you see it as an underwhelming use of valuable Tomorrowland real estate. With electric vehicle technology booming, many of you also feel it’s time to give the Speedway a modern update, or replace it entirely. Mission: SPACE Shan put it simply: “Mission space bc I cant ride it…..ever.” (Honestly, Shan, we get it. That ride can get intense!) Mission Space For some of you, the simulator’s heavy G-forces make it unapproachable. While not everyone is on board with its closure, Mission: SPACE definitely has a divisive reputation. “it’s a small world” Now, this one sparked some controversy. Steven admitted, “Most people probably would disagree with me on this. But I think small world should go. They don’t take care of it really. Mold on the walls, animatronics don’t work, audio issues in sections. Put something cool on that prime real estate.” “it’s a small world” That is a bold take. While “it’s a small world” is iconic, some of you agree that its maintenance issues are hard to ignore. Could Disney consider a major overhaul to revive this classic, or is it time to dream bigger for that space? Under the Sea – Journey of the Little Mermaid For Dan, it’s all about trading one classic Disney princess for another. He shared, “Little mermaid in MK needs to become the Beauty and the Beast dark ride.” Under the Sea — Journey of the Little Mermaid While the Little Mermaid ride has its fans, Dan’s suggestion isn’t far-fetched. A Beauty and the Beast dark ride, like the one in Tokyo Disneyland, could be an incredible addition to Fantasyland. Hall of Presidents Reader Jon kept his feedback short and sweet: “Hall of Presidents!!! ” Hall of Presidents Love it or hate it, the Hall of Presidents often divides visitors. Some find it educational and inspiring; others feel it could use a more engaging overhaul, or be replaced with something less “snooze-worthy.” Journey Into Imagination with Figment Poor Figment. He’s beloved, but his ride gets no love. Sarah said, “Figment needs a refurb sooooo bad!! Keep some kind of Figment but update it. It’s just sad!” Janie agreed: “Figment!! He deserves so much better!!! Give him a ride worthy of him!” Journey Into Imagination with Figment The message is clear: you don’t want Figment to disappear. Rather, you want him to shine by giving his ride a modern reimagining of this ride to give the whimsical purple dragon the respect he deserves. Kali River Rapids Over in Animal Kingdom, Kara made a case for this water ride: “Kali River Rapids! It needs some TLC, vehicle remodel, and possibly retheming. I understand the current theme; it just doesn’t translate well in its current form.” Kali River Rapids Between its inconsistent theming and shorter ride experience, Kara and others of you feel Kali River Rapids could use a serious refresh or a whole new concept. Those were just some of your thoughts on which Disney rides should go next, and now we want to hear even more from you! Until then, keep it right here for all the latest Disney news! Looking for a new show to binge? ©Disney Whether you’re a fan of live TV that you watch each week or you’re in the market for a new show to stream on Disney+ or Netflix, there are lots of options out there. But why pick something new when you could go back to an old favorite? Or in this case…a REBOOT of an old favorite? Variety reports that a reboot of popular TV series Scrubs is now in early development. Bill Lawrence is working on a new iteration of the show with 20th Television. The original show was produced by ABC Studios, which was recently absorbed into 20th Television by Disney. ©NBC Scrubs originally aired on NBC for its first 7 seasons from 2001-2008, followed by a run on ABC from 2009-2010. The plot followed the employees of Sacred Heart Hospital through their daily lives. The cast included Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, Judy Reyes, Ken Jenkins, John C. McGinley, and Neil Flynn. ©NBC Throughout its run, the show earned 17 Emmy nominations, and has even kept its popularity years later. Braff and Faison even launched a rewatch podcast “Fake Doctors, Real Friends” in 2020. Back in October, Variety even asked Braff if he would return for a Scrubs reboot. “The idea of getting back together with my friends and doing like 10 or 12 episodes of maybe one or two seasons, and just laughing with everyone? That sounds like a dream,” he said. ©ABC We can’t wait to hear more about this new show — we’ll make sure to keep you in the loop! Stay tuned to DFB for more television news. What’s better than a super delicious Disney dessert? A super delicious DISCOUNTED Disney dessert, of course! We definitely dream about beignets! The Disneyland Resort to some really great attractions, memorable shows, and, of course, delicious eats! One of the best desserts and all-around snacks you can find at Disneyland is a beignet, and our favorite spot to get them is at Beignets Expressed in Downtown Disney. This small shop is attached to Jazz Kitchen Coastal Grill and Patio and serves up all kinds of tasty beignets and beverages in an on-the-go style. It also offers a pretty nice discount that has some pretty hefty limitations. The simplest way to get discounts at Disneyland without being a Cast Member is to own a Magic Key annual pass. The Magic Key discount allows up to 20% off selected merchandise and up to 15% off selected dining throughout Disneyland Resort. While Beignets Expressed does honor the discount at its Downtown Disney location, there is a caveat. Beignets Expressed To use the Magic Key discount, make sure you know when it’s eligible. Magic Keys can be used to save 10% on Beignets Expressed purchases Monday through Friday BEFORE 4PM. The discount excludes alcohol, tax, tips, major holidays, and private events. The discount also cannot exceed $50. Beignets Expressed If you try to get a discount on the weekend or late at night after a long park day, you’ll be out of luck. The restriction and its parameters are exactly the same next door at Jazz Kitchen, with Magic Key discounts only being valid until 4PM on weekdays. Inside The good thing about this discount restriction is that it could force you to come at a more opportune time. Beignets Expressed is the place to be when it comes to Disneyland desserts, and you’ll often find super long lines towards the end of the night. Tons of people are willing to wait for the delicious treat after a long park day and we can’t blame them. Menu With that said, lines can be nearly non-existent if you go at the right time. Earlier in the day and before the nighttime rush, you’ll typically find the most amicable waits. If you find yourself craving a beignet before dinner during the week, hop on over to Beignets Expressed, avoid lines, and save a bit of money if you have a Magic Key pass! Beignet Four-Pack Beignets Expressed sells classic beignets, glazed beignets, signature beverages (like frozen hot chocolate and frozen mint juleps), dipping sauces, merch, and even beignet mix so you can make your own beignets at home! Beignets come in packs of 4, 6, or 10 and there are seasonal offerings, as well, to keep the menu fresh and interesting. A staple for many Disneylanders and tourists alike, this place is super popular, and for good reason! Beignet Mix Were you aware of this discount rule at Beignets Expressed? Buckle up. We’re going on an adventure in a galaxy far, far away. We hope you’re all caught up in the ever-expanding universe of Star Wars because there’s a NEW project in the works. In fact, we have a BIG casting announcement, and it might surprise you! Hollywood Studios There’s a new Star Wars film in the works called The Mandalorian & Grogu (not to be confused with the series, The Mandalorian, available to stream on Disney+). We don’t know much about the plot of this project, but we do know the name of at least one character joining the story: Rotta the Hutt. Recognize that name? Rotta the Hutt is the son of the (in)famous Jabba the Hutt, and he may soon take on The Mandalorian and Grogu. Based on the timeline of events, this continuation of the story should unfold after Return of the Jedi and The Book of Boba Fett. ©Disney So, who’s playing this mysterious character? Variety reported that Jeremy Allen White has joined the new The Mandalorian & Grogu film as the voice of Jabba the Hutt’s son, Rotta the Hutt. You may recognize Jeremy Allen White from The Bear, where he plays the main protagonist. ©Variety We’re still waiting for more details about the plot of this new film. As you may remember, in The Book of Boba Fett, Tatooine dealt with a power struggle as several characters attempted to take over Jabba the Hutt’s role as a crime boss. Ultimately, Boba Fett took over, defeating two of Jabba’s cousins, The Twins. ©Disney This new film will be directed by Jon Favreau, who also created The Mandalorian. Variety also confirmed that the project will feature Pedro Pascal returning in his iconic role and Sigourney Weaver, whose character is still unknown at this time.
