The Department of Transportation has just announced a new investigation is now underway into Delta Airlines. ©Getty Images It’s been almost a week since a global outage involving software updates left millions of travelers stranded with flight cancellations and delays across the country. While the airline companies have worked to restore flights as swiftly as possible, there’s still one major airline that just can’t seem to get back up and running as usual just yet. This ongoing problem has caught the attention of the Department of Transportation due to its high volume of consumer complaints. According to NPR, the US Department of Transportation (DOT) has launched an investigation to find out why Delta Airlines is now on its 5th consecutive day canceling and delaying flights. In a statement released by Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg on Tuesday, the department stressed they have “made clear to Delta that they must take care of their passengers and honor their customer service commitments.” To put a number to the chaos, according to data collected by FlightAware, which is a flight tracking website used by travelers, Delta Airlines had already canceled more than 400 flights and delayed around 860 flights for the day. MCO Luggage Drop-Off In response to the Department of Transportation’s investigation announcement, it seems Delta is attempting to be cooperative throughout the whole situation. Delta’s statement also went on to note that their teams were working around the clock to resolve the issues and resort to normal operations as quickly as possible. ©Getty Images So other than extended delays, what else could the Department of Transportation look into within this investigation? Perhaps that answer lies within a letter Delta released this past Sunday. According to NPR, in the letter, Delta Airlines offered travel waivers to customers on flights impacted by the global outage. This waiver option would allow travelers to change itineraries and rebook their flights without any additional fees. This option seems nice enough, however, there are recent law changes that need to be followed now with airline cancellations. ©Delta We’ve talked about the law updates which allow airline travelers the option to request a prompt cash refund for their cancelled flights instead of solely being offered a waiver, voucher, or credit for future or alternate flights. And, as the DOT’s Pete Buttigieg pointed out on X, “timely reimbursements for food and hotel stays to consumers affected by these delays and cancellations, as well as adequate customer service assistance.” ©Getty Images It will be interesting to hear how the Department of Transportation’s investigation turns out, see how quickly Delta Airlines is able to resume normal flights once again, and looking to see if more options are made available to travelers experiencing delays and cancellations from Delta Airlines. A MAJOR change just hit Disney World…and you know what that means? It means it’s time to take some NOTES! Lightning Lanes! Say goodbye to Genie+. This paid skip-the-line system got a name change to Lightning Lane Multi Pass (and Individual Lightning Lanes are now Lightning Lane Single Passes), and these new services will completely change how you do Disney World. Now, you can PRE-BOOK your Lightning Lanes! We’ve been testing all the ways this updated service can work for you, and we need to talk about one simple step that can make a BIG difference. OK, first, let’s go over the basics. If you want to skip the lines in Disney World and use the “express lane,” you’ll need to pay for access to the Lightning Lane. There are two ways to do this. One, you can buy Lightning Lane Multi Pass, which allows you to book Lightning Lane reservations for multiple Disney World rides. Two, you can buy Lightning Lane Single Pass, which is more of a pay-per-ride system that lets you skip the line at Disney’s most popular rides. We have detailed information about both services and how you can make the most of the system. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Now, the most critical part of this service is, obviously, booking those Lightning Lanes. Even if you pay for access to the Lightning Lane, you aren’t guaranteed access to every single ride in a park — things can sell out! That means you have to be strategic about what you’re booking and when you’re booking it. You need to be familiar with the My Disney Experience app. ©Disney If you want to give yourself a little advantage when it comes time to book new Lightning Lane reservations, there’s a small but important step you can take. There’s a button on the My Disney Experience app that’s easy to miss, and it might not seem important, but it can save you a lot of time and effort when booking your Lighting Lane reservations. Once you’re on the “Today’s Plans” section of the My Disney Experience app, go to the “My Day” screen and look for that “Recommended Activity.” The recommendation should say, “Start here to plan your day!” and tap “Get started now.” ©Disney Here, you can tell the Disney app which rides you’re most interested in visiting during your day in the parks. Tap “Start Now” and, well, start now! ©Disney Once you select a date and park, Disney will show you a list of rides, entertainment, dining, and extras. We’re going to focus on the “Attractions” part of this, though. This will be important when you go to book your Lightning Lanes later, so make sure to select your TOP attractions and highest priority rides. ©Disney Why is this helpful? Well, when the Disney app knows what rides you’re most interested in, it will display those rides at the TOP of the tip board when it’s time to book a new Lightning Lane reservation. That will save you some scrolling! ©Disney Here’s another important caveat — you have to do this every. day. of your trip! Make sure to look for that “Get Started Now” button and mark your preferences each park day! You can also edit your selection by tapping “Edit Trip Preferences.” ©Disney There ya have it! Like we said, this is a quick, simple step, but it can come in handy when you’re trying to quickly book another Lightning Lane and don’t have the time to scroll around trying to find that one special ride you had in mind. We’re running several experiments with the new Lightning Lane Multi Pass system to answer ALL of your questions. Don’t want to miss a thing? If you’ve ever taken a ride on the Disney World Skyliner, you know it’s a pretty special experience! Disney World’s Skyliner I mean, where else can you float high above the crowds, skip those bus lines, and even get sneak peeks of the parks? We haven’t even talked about how convenient it makes travel between many of the Disney World Resort hotels and the parks. But let’s be real. As great as it is, there are some things it desperately needs, and we’re going to talk about them now! Here are the nine things we think the Disney World Skyliner desperately needs! Skyliner Scavenger Hunt Imagine gliding through the air and being on a mission to find hidden Mickeys or Disney trivia clues on the buildings below. Skyliner over Caribbean Beach Maybe there could be a special section in the My Disney Experience to track your progress and unlock virtual badges. This would be a fun way to keep the whole family entertained, especially during those slower stretches between stops. Single Rider Line You know how sometimes you find yourself flying solo to EPCOT from your hotel for a quick Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure fix? Well, sometimes, waiting in line for a full gondola can feel like it takes forever. Skyliner Station A single-rider line could be a lifesaver, especially during peak hours. Plus, it would allow Cast Members to fill those empty seats and keep the gondolas moving faster. A/C Okay, so in our opinion, this one’s a no-brainer. Florida heat plus an enclosed gondola equals a major sweat fest. We LOVE the Skyliner! The views are already spectacular, so a little air conditioning would make the overall Skyliner experience infinitely more comfortable. “Staying On Board” Tag Let’s talk about that awkward moment when your gondola pulls into the Riviera, and everyone piles out, except you, the lone wolf, heading off to EPCOT. There needs to be a way to discreetly signal you’re staying on board. Skyliner Maybe a “Staying On” tag would help to avoid the mass exodus immediately followed by the “Oh, you’re not getting off?” side-eye. Muzak We all know that feeling when you’re stuck in a silent gondola with strangers, desperately trying to avoid eye contact. A little light Disney-themed background music would be a lifesaver. Skyliner It wouldn’t have to be loud, just enough to fill the awkward silence and create a more relaxed atmosphere. Padded Bench Seats The current bench seats in the Skyliner are functional but not exactly comfy. Inside a Skyliner Gondola A little padding would go a long way in making the ride more comfortable, especially after a long day of park hopping. Clear Route Maps Okay, maybe it’s just me, but navigating the Skyliner system can sometimes be a little confusing, especially for first-timers. Pop Century and Art of Animation share a Skyliner station A map that clearly shows all the stops and connections would be a huge help, and bonus points if it’s interactive and even shows real-time wait times in the parks! Hand Sanitizer Stations Hand sanitization is more important than ever. It would be a welcome addition if we could have hand sanitizer stations available either in the gondolas or right when you get off. Inside a gondola It would be a simple way to help keep everyone healthy and comfortable, especially after we all touch the same gondola doors, rails, and seats. Inter-Gondola Snack Delivery System Okay, so hear me out on this one. Imagine that you’re soaring towards the Riviera, daydreaming about a Dole Whip, when a sudden craving for a Gaston’s Cinnamon Roll hits you. Disney Skyliner Wouldn’t it be amazing if there was a way to order snacks mid-flight and have them magically appear at your next stop? How about a dedicated Skyliner snack cart that could zipline between gondolas? I mean, we can dream about it, right? Learn more about the Skyliner here! Another major change has just rolled out at Disney World, so of course we’re bringing you everything you need to know! CHANGES are HERE! Genie+ has officially been renamed to Lightning Lane Multi Pass (and Individual Lightning Lanes are now Lightning Lane Single Pass)! We’ve been testing the new system out all day long and have learned a bit more about how it all works. But, we definitely weren’t expecting to see this message on our Disney World app today. As of July 24th, Disney World has officially switched over to Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Passes. Under the new system, you can: Make Lightning Lane plans BEFORE you’re in the parks Choose experiences and times prior to purchasing so you know what you’re getting with your purchase Book Lightning Lane passes for MULTIPLE vacation days, all at once Lightning Lanes! Genie+ is now called Lightning Lane Multi Pass. This is an optional, PAID service available on the My Disney Experience app. Lightning Lane Multi Pass users are able to bypass standby lines and utilize the Lightning Lane (previously known as the FastPass line) at select attractions in the parks by paying a single fee for multiple attractions. Lightning Lane With Lightning Lane Single Pass, you can pay a fee to utilize the Lightning Lane for an individual, in-demand attraction. The only major change here is that you can make your purchase before your trip in order to plan in advance! Just like the Multi Pass, you can select your first THREE Lightning Lane Single Passes up to seven days in advance if you’re staying at a Disney World hotel. All other guests can purchase and select their first three Lightning Lane Single Passes three days in advance. Learn More About These Changes in Our Full Guide Here! But then, there are also Virtual Queues for more popular rides. With these rides, you still have a window of time you need to return to the attraction in order to ride. Disney has been lax with these return times sometimes in the past (aside from at TRON), but the My Disney Experience app has always shown the hour return window. Cosmic Rewind Now, though, it seems like that has changed! When one of our team members booked a Virtual Queue for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, the app notified them that it was time to ride, and there was a message that said they could return anytime during the day to ride — not just during their window! ©Disney But, another one of our team members also had a Virtual Queue for Cosmic Rewind, and they didn’t have that same message. Instead, their app still showed that they had to arrive by a certain time in order to ride. ©Disney So, while Disney hasn’t been too strict with Virtual Queue return times in the past at most rides, it does seem like that rule is more official now — at least in certain circumstances. We’re not totally sure yet why one Virtual Queue would still have a return time listed while the other one doesn’t, but it could be something Disney will work out or announce in time. We did speak with a Cast Member at Cosmic Rewind, and they said the only time that notification is sent is if something special has been done by Guest Relations, and that that may be a glitch related to the new system. We asked if it’s possible it could be a new policy and we were told that it will likely be done on a case-by-case basis. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind We’re running a number of experiments with the new Lightning Lane system to answer ALL of your questions. Don’t want to miss a thing? We love a good Happy Meal here at DFB! We may mostly love the Happy Meals for the toys, but hey, who can blame us? McDonald’s While we spend most of our time reviewing all the food and drink offerings at the Disney parks, we also save some time for a good ol’ McDonald’s Happy Meal. If you are a sucker for a good Happy Meal too, then we have some exciting news for you! There are brand-new Happy Meals toys now available. If you are a sports fan, then you will definitely want to run over to your nearest McDonald’s right away. The Panini Family is partnering with McDonald’s to bring a line-up of toys that feature athletes. ©McDonald’s Each Happy Meal toy comes with a poster and a pack of stickers. There are eight different posters to collect and each poster has spots to stick the stickers on to create a fun poster. The stickers feature a variety of top athletes including soccer player Wendie Renard, speed climber Bassa Mawem, cyclist Anthony Jeanjean, and more. ©McDonald’s These Happy Meals toys come at a great time as we prepare for the kick off of the Summer Olympic Games in Paris on July 26th, 2024. While the newest Happy Meal toys are a bit different than some of the most recent toys, including minions toys from Despicable Me 4 and characters from Inside Out 2, we think the timing is perfect. After previously authorizing a strike due to unfair labor practices, four unions representing Cast Members have come to a tentative agreement with Disney. Disneyland Members voted to authorize the strike, with 99% approving the plan. But, it seems as though a strike may not happen after all, as Disney and the unions have reached a tentative agreement. On Friday, July 19th, 2024, four unions representing more than 14,000 Cast Members around Disneyland Resort voted to authorize a strike — which would have been the first walkout in the park in 40 years. Custodians, ride operators, candy makers, and merchandise clerks are the Cast Members at the center of the fight. But, it looks like Disney may have avoided a strike altogether by reaching a tentative agreement with the unions. Disneyland A statement on the UFCW 324 union website reads: “We have reached a tentative agreement with Disney. We have fought hard for the past four months and this tentative agreement would not have been possible without the strength we showed this past week with our rally and Unfair Labor Practice vote. We achieved our goals – a three-year contract that contains significant wage increases for all cast members, seniority increases and the retention of premiums. We also addressed issues that will make the attendance policy work better for cast members.” We love Cast Members! The @DisneyWorkersRising account on X, which represents some of the unions, also shared their celebrations of the agreement which reportedly includes a “3-year contract that contains significant wage increases for all cast members, seniority increases and additional premiums as well as the retention of premiums” and a better attendance policy. The unions had cited economic hardship including housing and food insecurity as reasons for authorizing the strike originally. Keep in mind that this is a tentative agreement and must still be voted on and approved by the union members after they’ve had the chance to review it. The vote will take place on July 29th from 6:30AM to 8PM at Disneyland, with an exact location to be determined. Disneyland Cast Members ©Disney Cast Members are truly what make Disneyland and Disney World — along with the rest of the Disney parks — so magical, and they certainly wouldn’t be the same without them! Another Disney Cruise Line ship is being built that will be the sister ship to the Disney Wish and Disney Treasure! The Disney Destiny | ©Disney The Disney Destiny will be an all-new ship with an all-new theme — Heroes and Villains! The theme will draw “on the legacies of beloved Disney stories, characters, and theme park attractions.” And Disney has teased new information coming out about the Disney Destiny on July 30th. While we will have to wait a few more days for official word from Disney about the details of the new cruise ship, Disney sent us a PR package full of items with hidden meanings. So, we’re breaking down these clues to guess what might be coming during the news drop on July 30th! We received a promo package from Disney for the Disney Destiny on July 23rd and were so excited to see what was inside! We got a package! We found several port holes and a comic with Cassie’s picture! It’s so exciting! Let’s start with the comic on our search for clues. It says Disney Food Blog’s Path to Destiny and has several Disney, Pixar, and Marvel characters. We noticed that there were heroes paired up with their movie’s respective villains along with other heroes and villains. This makes sense with the new theme for this cruise ship! How cool is this?! Then, in each port hole, there were patches from various movies. Look at all the patches! One thing we know is that Minnie Mouse is the icon of the ship, so the Super Hero Minnie Mouse is likely a tribute to that. Minnie Mouse Here you can see Minnie Mouse on the logo for the Disney Destiny! ©Disney Next, we spotted what is likely a Haunted Mansion patch! Since the Disney Destiny will be a sister ship to the Disney Treasure, which is getting a Haunted Mansion-themed bar, we wonder if this is a hint that the Destiny will also be getting a Haunted Mansion experience, potentially also a bar! As for the go-kart from Wreck-It Ralph, we know that some ships offer the Go Kart Sundae, so we wonder if this will also be an offering on the Disney Destiny! Haunted Mansion and Wreck-It Ralph There were several Marvel patches in the box, including this Loki one. Some cruise ships have Marvel kids’ zones, while the Disney Treasure is getting TWO new Marvel dining experiences — Marvel Celebration of Heroes: Groot Remix and Avengers: Quantum Encounter. These would certainly go along with the Heroes and Villains theming of the new ship! We have also seen The Lion King pop up in a promo video, on the comic cover, and now as a patch. Perhaps we’ll see a new element added to the Disney Destiny surrounding the Hero and Villain tale of the lions. The Lion King and Loki patches Currently, the Disney Wish has, and soon the Disney Treasure will have, the Hero Zone! In this kids’ area, there is an Incredibles-themed inflatable play space. This area, including the Incredibles play area, would fit the new theme perfectly. We’re certainly looking forward to seeing Captain Mickey aboard the ship! ‘The Incredibles’ and Captain Mickey There were 18 total patches sent out in random assortments. Thanks to Scott Gustin on X, we were able to see the remaining patches that we did not receive in our own box. via Scott Gustin on X These included a Pirates of the Caribbean patch which may represent the experience of Pirate Night with fireworks at sea which occurs on many cruise ships. It may also hint at a potential Pirates of the Caribbean lounge to match the new one being built in Magic Kingdom! There are also Frozen, Cruella DeVille, Hercules, and more Marvel patches. Perhaps, we’ll be seeing more new experiences with these characters coming to the new ship! ©Disney We can’t wait to find out what’s in store for us on July 30th! Pixar just smashed a box office record. Inside Out 2 Preview at Walt Disney Presents Last month, Disney and Pixar released Inside Out 2, the sequel to the Academy Award-winning 2015 original. Can you believe it’s been 15 years? DFB has been eating Disney food for a decade and a half! Freeze dried Skittles rice crispy treat We’ve eaten just about everything under the sun, too, including many of our favorite foods. We’ve also eaten some questionable things, but we do it ALL for you. We’ve even done some really weird things just to get good photos to share with you of all the food we eat. So let’s just say we’ve seen Disney food trends come and go. There are some trends, though, that just seem a little bizarre. Why were we so BLUE? Disney World’s 50th Anniversary Celebration brought TONS of new snacks to the parks, the hotels, and Disney Springs. And let us tell you something: almost EVERY one of those snacks had some kind of blue on them. We spent much of the first few days of the 50th anniversary with our fingers and mouths dyed blue. Main Street Bakery Opening Day Cake Blue cupcakes, blue drinks, blue domes, blue EVERYTHING. You name it — it was blue. Oh, we’re sorry, NOT blue. It was “Earidescent” (which is what Disney called it). Also, we’re still seeing the Earidescent sprinkles on snacks, so we’re guessing Disney World must’ve had a surplus. Here’s a list of EVERYTHING we ate for Disney World’s 50th Anniversary Croissants that are EXTRA The most recent trend is croissants with fillings. We’re seeing these special croissants turn up EVERYWHERE. It all started with the Croissant Cookie, which was a croissant filled with cookie dough. Then the PB & J Croissant showed up and said, “Hold my beer.” PB & J Croissant Since then, we’ve seen the Espresso Croissant (why get coffee AND a croissant when you can just have both in one snack?), another Cookie Dough Croissant, and Creme Brulee Croissant. Granted, these were all AMAZING, so it might be weird, but we’re all in when it comes to this trend. We’re pretty much expecting this year’s Halloween treats to include at least one croissant with pumpkin filling. But, hey, Pumpkin Spice Croissant? We might be okay with that. Read our review of the Creme Brulee Croissant Why is Disney freeze drying candy? Another recent trend involves freeze dried Skittles. We think Disney let a kid into the kitchen and that’s how we’ve come up with this new snack. After it’s freeze-dried, Disney has been adding it to Krispie Treats, cake, caramel apples, drinks, and more. Freeze dried Skittles You can also buy bags of freeze dried Skittles at Main Street Confectionery because why not? If you’re curious about how they taste, they kinda’ remind us of those astronaut snacks: the texture is kinda’ dry, but they still taste like Skittles. If you’re curious about what these taste like on a Krispie treat, click here If it’s popular, Disney is going to take it away So there’s a trend going around that some of the most popular snacks in Disney World are being taken off menus. We’re not sure why Disney EVER thought taking hush puppies off the menu at Columbia Harbour House in Magic Kingdom was a good idea, but thanks to demand (and yes, we were VERY loud about it), those hush puppies returned. If it’s popular, it would make sense to keep it around, though, right? They came back. Whew! However, Disney also took the highly popular waffle sandwiches off the menu at Sleepy Hollow and replaced them with subpar Mickey waffle snacks that just aren’t the same. We’re still hoping for a snack miracle here. Here’s our honest review of these new waffles Why do mustaches = fathers? Every Father’s Day, Disney World releases special treats and we’ll guarantee that about half of them have mustaches on them. Because nothing says “Dad” like a mustache? We’re not quite sure what the reasoning is except it’s a way to take existing snacks and make them seem more masculine and Dad-like? What is up with the mustaches? Pastry with a mustache We’ve seen mustaches on cupcakes, cheesecakes, pastries, and more. It’s never-ending on Father’s Day. It’s also weird, but highly amusing. The True Story Behind The Disney Food Blog Fingernails Why all the prix fixe menus? It’s become more and more popular at Disney World restaurants to offer prix fixe menus, which means you’re forced into getting three courses, whether you’re super hungry or not. Your choices are also often fairly limited and unless you’ve been starving yourself for days, it’s probably going to be too much food. California Grill’s Prix Fixe Menu Even Be Our Guest, which once had a great a la carte counter service-like lunch menu went to prix fixe for both lunch and dinner. Who wants to eat three courses for lunch on a hot day in Florida? Several years ago, California Grill at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, also went to a prix fixe meal. When Space 220 opened in EPCOT, it only offered a prix fixe menu (so we often recommend going to the Space 220 Lounge instead). How Be Our Guest Restaurant Lunch Slowly Declined From Perfect to Pathetic If it’s alcoholic, it probably has Blue Curaçao in it Disney loves Blue Curaçao and puts it in a lot of its drinks, especially if those drinks are blue. Remember all the blue food and snacks we mentioned above for the 50th anniversary? Almost all the cocktails had Blue Curaçao in them. But it seems to be popular in bars ACROSS the resort for a lot of things. Guess what’s in it? We do have to say, it’s not as prevalent as it once was, so it seems Disney has decided that it doesn’t need to go into every drink. The 1 Drink You Should Get From Each EPCOT Pavilion If we’re celebrating something, there’s a cupcake for it From around 2018-2020, there was a cupcake for EVERYTHING. We don’t care what Disney was celebrating, it made sure that there was a cupcake for that occasion. Honestly, it’s still kinda’ a trend even now. There were MANY cupcakes for the 50th Anniversary Celebration. Earth Day also gets a few cupcakes. New Year’s Eve in Animal Kingdom? Make a cupcake and slap a year on an animal print Mickey. Proof: New Year’s 2024 Cupcake We guess it makes sense because cupcakes are pretty easy to make and create different designs for. They’re also pretty much liked by just about everyone, so we expect cupcakes will also be a part of special Disney celebrations. Best Snacks in Animal Kingdom for 2024 So yes, we’ve seen some pretty bizarre food trends and we can’t wait to see what food trends come next. In the meantime, we’re going to go order another one of those Creme Brulee Croissants at Gaston’s Tavern and keep reporting on Disney food. Disney’s new Lightning Lane rules are live! Cinderella Castle After shocking the theme park world by announcing a massive overhaul to its skip-the-line system last month, the new Lightning Lane Multi Pass (updated Genie+ service) and Lightning Lane Single Pass (updated pay-per-ride Individual Lightning Lane system) options have gone live. We studied Disney’s detailed explanations about how the revamped system would work before the changes went live, but we still had several questions. One of our biggest questions: can Disney dining reservations overlap with Lightning Lane reservations? We found out! On July 24th — the morning the new system debuted — we experimented with the system in numerous ways. One thing we noticed? When booking our Lightning Lanes, we were NOT able to book passes for the exact time of a preexisting dining reservation (IE: If we had a 12PM reservation, we could not book a 12PM Lightning Lane Multi Pass or Single Pass), but we were offered and able to book time slots that conflicted with preexisting advanced dining reservations. Oga’s Cantina For example, we were able to book a Lightning Lane Multi Pass for Living with the Land for an 11:10PM-12:10PM window, even though we had an advance dining reservation for Spice Road Table at 11:30AM. ©Disney The same was true of Lightning Lane Single Pass, as we were able to purchase one for Rise of the Resistance that was valid from 12:35PM to 1:35 PM even though we had an Oga’s Cantina advance dining reservation for 12:45PM. ©Disney As we made our Lightning Lane selections, the My Disney Experience app showed us all the plans we had going on that day. This way, you can see your dining reservations while choosing your Lightning Lane times. So, when your seven or three-day booking window for Lightning Lane Multi and Single Passes opens, make sure you keep your previously booked dining reservations in mind and look over them when they’re presented on the My Disney Experience app to avoid creating conflicts between two reservations. Stay tuned to DFB for further coverage of Disney’s new skip-the-line system. Get ready! Another MAJOR change just hit Disney World…and you already know we’re covering it all for you! Lightning Lane changes are HERE! Not only has Genie+ been renamed to Lightning Lane Multi Pass (and Individual Lightning Lanes are now Lightning Lane Single Pass), but it’s also completely changing how you do Disney World. We’ve been bringing you a look at the new system, but still need to answer one important question. So, let’s see how park hopping works with the new Lightning Lane system in Disney World! As of July 24th, Disney World has officially switched over to Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Passes. Under the new system, you can: Make Lightning Lane plans BEFORE you’re in the parks Choose experiences and times prior to purchasing so you know what you’re getting with your purchase Book Lightning Lane passes for MULTIPLE vacation days, all at once CHANGES are HERE! When purchasing Lightning Lane Multi Pass, you can make up to THREE Lightning Lane Multi Pass selections in a park ahead of your visit. Additionally, you must choose from a list of available times as you make your attraction selections, and you can continue to hold up to three Lighting Lane Multi Pass selections at a time. Lightning Lanes in Walt Disney World If you’re staying at a Disney World hotel (and select other hotels), you will be able to purchase and select your first three Lightning Lane Multi Passes up to seven days in advance of your check-in day for your entire stay (up to 14 days). If you are not staying in a Disney World hotel, you can purchase and select your first three Lightning Lane Multi Passes three days in advance. ©Disney Starting now, Disney is also using a tiered system for ride selections. (Remember how we said this sounded like FastPass+? Well, this might sound familiar!) Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios all use this tiered system to group their rides, and from those initial three advance selections, you can choose one experience from a higher-tiered group and two experiences (or all three) from a lower-tiered group. Tiers do not apply at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. You can see the full list of ride tiers here. ©Disney With Lightning Lane Single Pass, you can pay a fee to utilize the Lightning Lane for an individual, in-demand attraction. ©Disney But, a big question we had was how this would work with park hopping since there is no longer a “multi-park” option for Lightning Lane, and instead, each park is priced individually. Here’s a look at the pricing from the first day of the changes, July 24th: Magic Kingdom — $29 EPCOT — $21 Hollywood Studios — $26 Animal Kingdom — $18 Cinderella Castle So, what would happen if you purchased Lightning Lane Multi Pass in Animal Kingdom for $18, and then later hopped to Magic Kingdom where the price was $29? Would you be charged the difference when making a selection in the My Disney Experience app? We’re thrilled to report that as of now, NO! We did the experiment ourselves when the changes rolled out. ©Disney You can see that we already had made Lightning Lane Multi Pass selections at Animal Kingdom, and when the app prompted us to choose another ride, we were given the option to switch parks altogether! ©Disney Based on our park hopping plans and timing, we chose “it’s a small world” as our first Lightning Lane for Magic Kingdom, fully expecting to be charged a difference upon confirmation. ©Disney But, it didn’t happen! We were able to select a Lightning Lane for Magic Kingdom while still in Animal Kingdom, despite there being no official “multi-park” option. Keep in mind you do need a valid Park Hopper ticket or Annual Pass for this to apply on your trip, though! ©Disney We also tried booking a Lightning Lane for Hollywood Studios while we were already in Magic Kingdom, and we were able to do that successfully as well by modifying an existing reservation. You can see that when we went to modify our Lightning Lane for Pirates of the Caribbean, we were able to switch between parks and switch our Pirates reservation to a Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster one in Hollywood Studios! ©Disney This also means that you are able to hold more than two Tier 1 rides, as long as the third is in a different park! Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster are all Tier 1 attractions. ©Disney But, keep in mind that you won’t be able to book Lightning Lanes across parks when making selections in advance. If you want to book Lightning Lanes in multiple parks, you won’t see a multi-park Multi Pass option the way you did with Genie+. It isn’t until you actually REDEEM one of those selections on the day of your park visit that you can choose another Multi Pass experience in the other parks, but you’ll need a valid Park Hopper ticket. Lightning Lane has changed And, if you’re thinking about purchasing Lightning Lane Multi Pass for a cheaper park like Animal Kingdom and hopping to a more expensive park like Magic Kingdom to take advantage of not having to pay more — you might want to think twice about that. Disney’s Animal Kingdom When we tested the new system out, we were shocked at how quickly some of the Lightning Lanes for popular rides at Magic Kingdom got snatched up. By around 10AM, the only available return times for Haunted Mansion, for example, were 6:25PM or later, and then they were gone altogether. So, if you’re thinking about trying to get a “discount” by starting your day in a park with a less expensive Multi Pass option, just keep in mind that you might be left with less popular rides by the time you switch to the second park. Magic Kingdom We’re running a number of experiments with the new Lightning Lane system to answer ALL of your questions. Don’t want to miss a thing? You can sign up for our newsletter to catch all of the latest and follow along on our social channels like Instagram and Facebook. In the meantime, we’ve put together some guides for you! We are in ALL four parks at Disney World today testing out the new Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Single Pass system. We are putting the new system through the wringer and working hard to get all of your questions answered. Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Single Pass have arrived! We will be providing LOTS and LOTS of coverage all day long, as well as for the foreseeable future as we test out different scenarios. You can follow along with us live throughout the day as we use the new system, and you can also check out a step-by-step guide to making your Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Single Pass selections. We are testing out a lot today and sharing everything with you! Additionally, we are looking for the best tips and tricks, so you can make the most of these new systems. New changes hit Disney World today! The Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Single Pass systems officially went live TODAY! These new systems are replacing the Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lane systems that allow you to pay to utilize the Lightning Lane entrances. While there are similarities between the systems, the new Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Single Pass systems will require a bit of getting used to. We have guides covering ALL the details of these new systems and make sure you follow along with us as we try out these new systems in all of the Disney World parks. Lightning Lane changes are HERE! While we were testing them out, we have discovered a trick to refreshing the app to (hopefully) get some better options. You can use this method after you have made all of your initial selections and confirmed your purchase. This tip can help you find better times for attractions that you have already booked. When you are on the main screen, tap on the selection you are looking to modify the time for and then select “Modify Plan” in the pop-up. ©Disney You will then be taken to a screen where you can modify the experience by either picking a new time or picking a new experience. On this page, select whatever time the app gives you to modify the selection to (even if it is much later). Then, you will be taken to a screen to review the details of your selection. ©Disney On this page, find the attraction again, and you will see a “Modify Time” option in blue text. Click on this to see a list of available times. Then you can repeatedly click “Close” and then “Modify Time” again to refresh the available times. Your selections are only saved for five minutes, but you can continue to refresh the available times, and if the five minutes run out, you can simply back out and come back in. ©Disney This was the easiest and quickest way we could find to be able to repeatedly refresh the available times for a selection. You can do this without risking losing your selections. As long as you don’t fully confirm your change, you will keep your initial selections still. We were impressed with how fast of a refresh this provided and you may just be able to snag a better time for the attraction. ©Disney As we kept refreshing, we were able to see different times available. We started with seeing a 9:15PM time and then got a 6:45PM time after we refreshed. ©Disney However, we also got a message saying, “Sorry, there are no additional times currently available.” We were able to refresh again and see times again, though. ©Disney We will continue to test out tips and tricks and find out the best ways to utilize these new systems while you are at Disney World. For even more details on the new Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Single Pass system, check out our FULL GUIDE right here or watch our video dedicated to these new systems: Make sure to stay tuned to DFB as we provide LIVE coverage of these new systems, answer your questions, and provide our best tips and tricks! It’s probably the single most asked question we get, and it might surprise you to learn we NEVER get tired of answering it! Disney’s Hollywood Studios We get asked about visiting Disney World a lot — like where to stay, how to make sure you’re getting the best deal, and when’s the best time to visit. And we love answering questions that can really make a difference for your trip! We go to Disney World every SINGLE day — no, we’re not exaggerating! Someone from the team is there every day — even on weekends and holidays. While we typically get mixed responses from folks ranging from “that sounds like a dream!” to “how could you ever stand it?” we’re pretty happy with being your eyes and ears at Disney World when you’re not able to be there. But the biggest question that remains is not THAT we go to Disney World every day, it’s HOW! Mostly, we get this question because visiting Disney World can be expensive! Cinderella Castle Because there’s some prep work involved with taking Disney World vacations, we’ve broken down what we do into two different groups. There’s a few things we do before we take our trip and several tips we stick to when we’re actively taking our trip. Before Our Trip We’re always looking for a deal! We’re huge advocates of taking advantage of big store savings by buying discounted Disney gift cards from places like Sam’s Club, Costco, Kroger (especially for fuel rewards) and Target. You can get significant savings just for being a savvy shopper! Disney Gift Cards The main thing we want to follow up about this tip is if you DO use Disney gift cards for payment towards your trip or while you’re on vacation, you’ll want to make sure you don’t prematurely toss those cards in the trash. Hold on to them until after you’ve traveled because if your plans change and you cancel anything that’s refundable, those refunds go back on to the original form of payment — meaning the Disney gift cards. Promotion pricing A budget and a well thought-out plan is your best friend. If you’re anything like us you’re constantly planning out those phantom Disney World trips and prices “just in case” but that’s a great start to an even better practice. We find ourselves pricing out our trips and dividing up the payments so we’re able to budget for the total cost much easier than forking over a lump sum of money all in one whack for these vacations! Disney World packages typically allow you to make payments towards your balance up through 30 days prior to your check in date and that’s been a saving grace for us time and time again. DFB Guide Take a deep dive into all the rewards your credit cards offer! Some credit cards offer travel perks and points like Marriott and Disney Visa. When you pay for everyday purchases with these cards or put your cost of your trip toward these cards, the rewards you accrue for making the purchases you were already going to make, could be fruitful in some bonus money to put towards your trip or towards your hotel stay. ©Disney Of course, these will be specific to each credit card company so you’ll want to compare and strategize accordingly. We’re also BIG fans of saving up Disney Visa Rewards on the redemption card and using it as our super secret budget when it comes festival time at EPCOT! During Our Trip Do the research upfront and come prepared — especially when it comes to food! We’re always packing our own (non perishable) snacks in our bags, bringing our own water bottles to the park with us to refill throughout the day, and when the occasion calls for it we’re not above splitting meals and snacks with a friend. Snacks! If you’ve narrowed down your list in advance of the food and restaurants you’d like to try out (of course you have with our help here at DFB), then you’ve probably already got a good budget in mind for how big each restaurant or snack portion is and how much it will cost you. Preplanning is NEVER a bad thing when you’re coming to Disney World! That’s A LOT of food! If you’ve forgotten to pack a water bottle, don’t stress! There are plenty of quick service restaurants that are happy to get you free ice water when you ask at the counter. Stay hydrated! Prioritize what’s absolutely non-negotiable for your trip and make a decision on what’s left over. This one is pretty self explanatory but if you really “bare bones ” the outline of what you HAVE to have to make this Disney World trip worth it, then you know what you’re not willing to budge on before you run into snags. This is so fun! If you find yourself super budget conscious or worried that you won’t be able to fit everything in all in one trip, that’s when you’ll be able to see what’s “left over” and where you need to make decisions to cut activities and extras down that may not matter as strongly as other things will to you. So there you have it! These are the methods we’ve personally put to the test as we plan out our Disney World visits no matter how often we step foot into the parks. It mostly just comes down to researching, planning, and budgeting as often as necessary until you find a sweet spot that works for you! We’re always looking for the latest ways to save you (and ourselves) money at Disney World so be sure you’re following along for all the latest! 9 Disney World Guests That Had a Way Worse Vacation than You Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! Well, we could have called this one. In case you haven’t heard, Disney just made BIG changes to its paid skip-the-line service, now called Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass. We have a TON of super in-depth information about all the changes, and we’re even reporting LIVE on all the new features. It’s a whirlwind, but we’re working HARD to bring you all the information you need to know before your next vacation. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train As a quick refresher, Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lanes are now called Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass. There is a lot to learn about the new system, and we’ve got reporters in Disney World testing all kinds of Lightning Lane situations. But during our experimentation, we already started to notice some problems — let’s talk about them! Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Passes are HERE! Now, you can: Make three Lightning Lane selections BEFORE you’re in the parks (seven days early if you’re staying at a Disney World hotel; three days early if not) Choose experiences and times before purchasing so you know what you’re getting with your purchase Book Lightning Lane passes for MULTIPLE vacation days, all at once Slinky Dog Dash Disney is now using a tiered system for ride selections at Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, and Hollywood Studios. From those initial three advance selections, you can choose one from a higher-tiered group and two (or all three) from a lower-tiered group. Tiers do not apply at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Book These Rides FIRST With Disney World’s New Lightning Lane Multi Pass System! Disney also offers a separate pay-per-ride service. Lightning Lane Single Pass allows you to pay a fee to utilize the Lightning Lane for a single, in-demand attraction. You can make your purchase before your trip (up to seven days in advance if you’re staying at a Disney World hotel; all others can select their first three Lightning Lane Single Passes three days in advance). Expedition Everest On July 24th, when testing out the new system, we ran into a few issues. Let’s break ’em down! Characters and Festival of Fantasy The first problem we ran into was a confusing one! At midnight, when the list of available attractions with Lightning Lanes populated in the My Disney Experience app, select character meet-and-greets and the Festival of Fantasy parade were included like they had been with Genie+. Lightning Lane at Princess Fairytale Hall However, as of 7AM on the first day of Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass, those offerings had disappeared! A representative from Disney confirmed that meet-and-greets and the Festival of Fantasy parade are NOT currently included with Lightning Lane Multi Pass, which is a big change from the old Genie+ system. Festival of Fantasy This means that even at stationary meet-and-greets (like Mickey Mouse in Town Square Theater or the Princesses at Princess Fairytale Hall) where there is a Lightning Lane available, you won’t be able to book that Lightning Lane. When we spoke to Cast Members in the parks, they said those Lightning Lane queues were still being used for Disability Access Service at this time, but not for actual Lightning Lane access. Mickey Mouse It’s possible that this could change in the future (Disney often changed the rules and regulations of Genie+), so we’ll be on the lookout to see if those are added or if that option goes away permanently. Dining Reservations and Conflicting Plans When making our Lightning Lane Single Pass and Multi Pass selections the first morning, we noticed that it was still possible to make Lightning Lane reservations that interfered with previously made plans. So you’ll need to be careful! Disney World Lightning Lanes have CHANGED The My Disney Experience app did show our dining reservations for the day alongside the Lightning Lanes, but when it automatically assigned us Lightning Lane times after we selected the attractions we wanted, those times sometimes conflicted with our dining reservations. For instance, one of our reporters was automatically given a Living with the Land Lightning Lane return time that conflicted with their lunch reservation at Spice Road Table. ©Disney Now, the good news is that after the app gives you your Lightning Lane return times, you’ll be able to see those return times and your dining reservations on the same screen. If something conflicts, you’ll have a few minutes to change or modify your Lightning Lane so that it doesn’t interfere. Just be warned that Disney won’t automatically work around your pre-scheduled plans! Deselecting Attractions Thankfully, we didn’t have too many weird glitches when trying out the new system, but we did spot something unusual when making Lightning Lane choices for Magic Kingdom. One of our reporters picked Tiana’s Bayou Adventure from Tier 1 along with two other rides from Tier 2, and then when the next screen loaded, Tiana’s was completely booked. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Now, that can totally happen, considering a bunch of people are making Lightning Lane choices at the same time. So that reporter went back and selected a new Tier 1 offering. The weird thing is that once that reporter selected a new Tier 1 offering, their previously selected Tier 2 choices disappeared, and they were left with just one Lightning Lane. Tower of Terror Lightning Lane sign So if you run into a situation where something books up and you have to make new selections, keep in mind that you’ll have to remake ALL your selections for Lightning Lane Multi Pass. Otherwise, you might miss out on the rides you want. OK, Disney fans. It’s time to dig deep into the depths of your memory. We’re going back in time to the days of FastPass+, Disney’s (old) skip-the-line service. Under the FastPass+ system, you could book ride reservations BEFORE your trip, giving you access to shorter lines throughout the day. Why are we bringing this up right now? Well, Disney just implemented some HUGE changes to its current (paid) skip-the-line service, and some of the new features sound pretty familiar. Magic Kingdom The new skip-the-line system is essentially a rebrand of Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lanes, now called Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass, respectively. There is a LOT to learn when it comes to the new system, and we’ve got reporters testing every possible Lightning Lane planning scenario so that YOU can be prepared for your next vacation. We’re sharing all our findings right HERE, LIVE with you! Let’s dive in. Disney’s New Lightning Lane System Has One HUGE Problem Experiment #3: Our task: Try for the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Virtual Queue Buy Multi-Pass and make EPCOT Reservations for 7/24 Try to make a reservation that conflicts with our 11:30 advance dining reservation at Spice Road Table Our questions: Does the system warn you about a conflict between a Lightning Lane and your advance dining reservation? The system warns you in a sense by showing you your advance dining in the screen while you’re making your Lightning Lane selections, however, it allows you to make these overlapping reservations. ©Disney We’ll be answering ALL your Lightning Lane questions and trying EVERYTHING under the new system, so stick around for more!
