  2. Neck fans, complimentary water, and bringing our own water bottle to double as a souvenir all sound like pretty solid options at Disney World when trying to stay cool — but get ready, because we’re adding one more to the mix! Ahhhh, cooling patches! With as hot as the spring and summer have been in Disney World this year and several rides struggling to stay open all day long backing up the wait times, it’s no wonder we’re all looking for any extra ways we can think of to stay cool. While ducking indoors for a show or to eat only works for a few occasions, we may have uncovered another solution to add to the mix when standing out in the blazing sun in unavoidable. DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. If you can think of an accessory to bring with you or purchase while you’re in Disney World’s parks to do your best at staying cool, you can bet we’ve tried them all — or so we thought! We recently discovered another alternative that we’re not seeing many folks use in the parks so we decided we were the guinea pigs for the job! Our latest way we’re beating the heat! On a latest visit out to Magic Kingdom, we thought the extremely hot temperatures were just the right conditions to test out our latest cooling obsession — cooling patches! ©Amazon To our surprise, these simple things worked really well! We ordered ours from Amazon and they came in a box of 20 which gave us plenty of opportunity to try them out over and over again. If you’ve not had a chance to see these before, the cooling patches are small strips of gel stuck to a gauze like mesh on one side and the other side that sticks to your skins is covered in a peel-away plastic until ready for use. They each come individually packaged making them lightweight, and easy to pack multiple with you for yourself or your entire family. See them HERE Once we opened our package and peeled away the plastic coating on the side meant to stick to us, that’s when the hard part began. Just kidding, but in all seriousness, choosing the right place for the most optimal cooling proved to be more of a challenge then we initially thought! We tried these cooling patches in a variety of places including our foreheads and on our upper chest, but the best spots we settled on was across the backs of our necks or on the inside of our shirts at just about the middle to lower back area. This also helped conceal them a bit more (along with staving off a few of the stares we started to get walking around with a strip on our foreheads). But hey, don’t knock it until you’ve tried it
right?! Opening the package The cooling strips on their own have a mild menthol scent to them like vapo-rub or an icy hot patch would but there’s never a heated sensation to them. They’re squishy and fun to play with and don’t worry if you don’t get the exact spot to your liking on the first try because we were able to peel them off and stick them back to us in another spot before they stopped loosing their ability to stick well. The full patch! We thought they were a great alternative to keeping cool without something bulky to carry around OR a soaking wet cooling towel that you have to stow away even when it’s not fully dried. We also thought they were fairly durable for a moderate amount of theme park fun and we didn’t experience ours peeling up or trying to come off while we were going about our normal day in the park. Or only hesitation with these is that they’re actually much longer than you would think! They’re surprisingly long.We were expecting them to be shorter and maybe more child sized because of the cartoonish packaging, but there’s a chance you could cut them down into shorter strips if you wanted them to fit more comfortably somewhere like your wrist or forehead. I’ve gotta have these NOW! Overall, we’d honestly opt to grab these guys to pack into our bags over a fan since you don’t have to recharge them and they’re disposable once they’ve lost their effect. We also found that after opening them out of their packaging and immediately before applying them to your body if you were to shake them back and forth (like a developing photo) it helped to intensify that immediate cooling sensation and made it more profound. Admittedly though, we’re pretty adapted to the Florida heat and intense summers so if you’re someone who’s coming to Disney World from out of state, you could feel the cooling patches effects more effectively than what we were able to. We’re constantly looking for theme park essentials to help make your next trip to Disney World as hassle free as possible! 3. EPCOT is home to some of our favorite restaurants, but that doesn’t mean they’re all created equally. EPCOT While we love quick-service spots like Sunshine Seasons and table-service restaurants like Garden Grill (just to name two of our favorites), there’s one restaurant in EPCOT that’s been hated on for YEARS. But is it really bad as we remember and as everyone makes it sound? We’re heading back to find out — come with us to find out if Coral Reef is the worst restaurant in EPCOT. Atmosphere Coral Reef Restaurant is located in World Nature, right near The Seas with Nemo and Friends. Coral Reef Restaurant The inside is heavily decorated to fit an under-the-sea theme — the lights look like jellyfish, there are coral and rock formations crawling up some of the walls, and the iconic blue-green shade of the ocean can be seen nearly everywhere you look. Inside Coral Reef However, the best part, and the restaurant’s main draw, is that you can see into the aquarium right next door at Sea Base! These near floor-to-ceiling windows are placed all around the restaurant, allowing a full look at the aquarium no matter what level of the dining room you’re seated in. It’s like you’re inside the aquarium! We do want to advise you that the restaurant is a little dark, as you can see from our table below, so if that’s not your thing, this may already not be the restaurant for you! (Or, just be prepared to use your phone flashlight.) It can be a little dark On the menu, you’ll find a selection of appetizers
 Starters
followed by the Entrees (which are seasonal!)
 Entrées
and you’ll also find a selection of alcoholic beverages. Specialty Drinks There are some exciting non-alcoholic drinks as well! Non Alcoholic Drinks But enough of the looks, let’s get to the food! Food The meal started out with a complimentary bread service, which was delicious! It had a hint of coconut flavor, which we really enjoyed. Bread Service We tried some of the most popular dishes on the menu, both seafood and not, to get a feel of what this restaurant is really like. We dove into the Coconut Fried Shrimp first, which we actually really loved! It was super crunchy, but not oily, and the coconut was slightly sweet but not overpowering. Coconut Fried Shrimp However, the mango chutney it’s served with was only okay — the mango wasn’t super fresh and we found the main flavor to be the red onion. Our companion said she could taste a lot of the sweet mango, but that made us wonder just how consistent this chutney will be. Overall, it was a good dish, but we wouldn’t necessarily order it again. Next up! We decided to try the Grilled Chicken Wings next, which were just okay. The chicken wasn’t overcooked, so it was still pretty juicy and not dry, and the sauce reminded us of a sweet teriyaki sauce. That meant there were no Jamaican spice flavors, as promised in the description. Overall, they were fine but not overly exciting or worth ordering again. Grilled Chicken Wings As awkward as it is to eat seafood in front of fish, we did also get the Seafood Boil since it IS a seafood restaurant. We found a lot of irony in the fact that this restaurant’s worst food was the seafood. Seafood Boil The shrimp were slightly chewy, and the taste reminded us of frozen shrimp, while the mussels and clams were too salty and chewy. However, the corn and potatoes were pretty good, and the stand out was the andouille sausage — it was super flavorful and well-cooked with a bit of bounce in the bite. Unfortunately, though, it wasn’t enough to save this dish. A closer look Our last main course was the Surf and Turf, which we really loved! The filet was cooked perfectly with a great sear and warm pink center. The shrimp wasn’t overcooked and wasn’t chewy at all (a major win). Surf and Turf The mashed potatoes were smooth and had a great garlic flavor, but the key lime chimichurri was easily the best part. It wasn’t too overpowering, and the cilantro was finely chopped, which we loved. It had a great acidity as well and was slightly sweet, which balanced the heavy dish so well. The sweet baby bell peppers in the dish were so crunchy and well cooked, adding a great textural element. Overall, a big win here! Loved it! We couldn’t forget dessert! We grabbed two — the first was the Key West Sunset, which was very tasty! The crust was super moist but still held firm, and the filling was tart and sweet and had a great bright flavor. The Chantilly reminded us of just a Reddi-wip situation but that didn’t throw us off too much. The raspberries were super sweet too! Overall, while the quality was great, it was nothing to write home about. Key West Sunset Our second dessert was the Bread Pudding, which is made out of the same bread as the bread service you get at the beginning of the meal. However, this really works in its favor! The coconut is perfectly sweet and matches the ice cream and caramel well. The caramel is slightly salty, which was great, and the shaved coconut has a great crunch. We were also impressed that the ice cream portion was the perfect amount with the bread! Bread Pudding Again, though, it was good, but there was nothing that really shocked us or blew us out of the water (sorry, we’ll stop with the puns now). Overall Overall, if you’re a seafood fan or are looking for something that will really wow you, this is NOT the restaurant for you. Was any of our food downright terrible? No, not at all, but we don’t necessarily recommend it. While we did enjoy our other dining choices, spending an hour or more of your park day dining at this restaurant doesn’t really seem like a good way to spend your EPCOT park day, in our eyes. Coral Reef Restaurant If someone in your dining party chooses this for your meal, it’s likely you’ll be able to find something on the menu that you like, however we are a little weary with how inconsistent this restaurant is. We saw in just the dishes we got that sometimes our shrimp was good, and other times it was a lower quality, and it came from the same kitchen! Coral Reef Restaurant So, do we necessarily recommend Coral Reef Restaurant? No, and we can see why it’s one of the most disliked spots in EPCOT. There are certainly tons of other better options to spend your time and money at, however if you or someone in your party would LOVE the windows into the aquarium, it may be a one and done type of meal. We do think it’s a better idea to spend your time at Sea Base itself, which has tons of windows to see the different sea creatures, and that doesn’t cost anything extra! Grab something from a quick-service spot and have a walking lunch around the aquarium if you’d like! Coral Reef Restaurant So there you have it! Now it’s up to you to make your own personal decision about if you’d like to experience this restaurant, and we know you’ll make the choice that’s best for your group! 6. If you’re honest, you’ll agree that most of us go to Disney World for the food and drink! Delicious and golden It could be a specific entree at your favorite restaurant like the noodles at ‘Ohana, or a unique drink like the Avocado Margarita from La Cava del Tequila, or some classic Corn Dog Nuggets from Casey’s Corner. It doesn’t even matter which one you’re talking about because we love them all. But just for a moment, let’s stick with Disney World snacks. Now, about them, we wanted to pick your brains and find out if and what controversial Disney World snacks you regretted trying! Well, we asked and you delivered! We reached out to our followers on Facebook to ask: “Which controversial Disney Word snack do you REGRET trying?” We had quite a few people leave their opinions in the comments! What do you think? Now, let’s dive into some of your top responses! School Bread Right out of the gate, it was SUPER clear that there were so many of you who tried School Bread from over in the Norway Pavilion at EPCOT and seriously regretted it. (The majority of you in the comments responded this way.) School Bread To this point, DFB reader Em shared, “School bread. Everyone raved. It was horrible.” DFB reader Hope noted, “The school bread. Everything I read about it was so positive. I think it tasted like a week old, dried out hunk of bread.” Also, DFB reader Alexandra shared, “School bread. One bite and couldn’t eat anymore. I don’t get the hype.” Cheeseburger Pods Listen, there were a fair amount of you who must have had very similar experiences with the Cheeseburger Pods from Satuli Canteen in Animal Kingdom because you were quite insistent about your regret. Cheeseburger Pods To this point, DFB reader Stacy shared, “Not sure it’s a snack, but the cheeseburger pods. So overrated. I expected them to be amazing after hearing so much about them. But I found them dry and I even bit into something hard in one of them. Never again.” Also, DFB reader Kathy shared, “I wanted to like the cheeseburger pods at Satuli Canteen, but I was so disappointed. I don’t think they’re good at all.” Wookiee Cookie Even being Star Wars fans didn’t stop some of you from feeling the regret of trying the Wookiee Cookie. You could just feel the disappointment that was evident in your responses. Wookie Cookie To that point, DFB reader Colleen shared, “Not sure if it’s controversial, but the Wookie Cookie was definitely NOT what we were hoping for. Very bland oatmeal cookie flavor and the filling was meh.” DFB reader Lindsay shared, “Wookie cookie. I heard so many good things about it so I made it a mission to get it on my last trip. The cookies were so stale.” Also, DFB reader Britt mentioned, “Wookie cookie at Backlot H.S. You described it like an oatmeal creme pie and it makes me wonder if you even know Little Debbie
” Turkey Leg Be honest. You knew this one was going to come up! Truly, you might be able to make the case that the turkey leg is the most polarizing snack at Disney World and quite a few of you still harbor regrets about trying them. Turkey Leg To this point, DFB reader Stacie shared, “I wanted to love them SO MUCH
but sadly, the turkey leg. They smell and look amazing but I could barely get two bites out of it.” DFB reader Shannon also shared, “Turkey leg. Always see them and finally tried on our last visit – and it was a hard no. Could not eat it.” Also, DFB reader Brodie mentioned, “TURKEY LEG should be illegal ” Pickle Milkshake Look, sometimes the teams over at Disney World try to get really creative with their food and drink options. Sometimes what they present are hit and some are complete misses. And then we have the Pickle Milkshake. We’ll leave it up to your imagination as to the total number of you who were scarred by this one. Pickle Milkshake To this point, DFB reader Christina shared, “The pickle milkshake still haunts my dreams.” Grey Stuff Cupcake Last up, you shared a really practical hack and it’s one that can come in extremely handy especially when you think about how much juice your phone is going to burn through while at Disney World! Grey Stuff Cupcake To this point, DFB reader Emily shared, “The grey stuff! Not for me. Way too much of a milky flavor.” DFB reader Megan shared, “The grey stuff cupcake. It had no taste and we were all so disappointed.” Lastly, DFB reader Cindy shared, “The grey stuff cupcake. They wrapped a flimsy paper on the cupcake part, and I almost dropped it. I want them to bring it back when it was on a cookie at the bottom. The cakes had way too much fondant on to actually be able to eat them.” So much of that yummy Grey Stuff Those were just some of the controversial Disney World snacks that you regret trying, and we want to hear more from you! 8. We’re sorry for the existential crisis you’re about to have after reading this post. Hollywood Boulevard at Hollywood Studios Because, when we tell you that July 22nd is the 30th anniversary of an iconic ride at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, you just might start to feel about as old as we do right now. But, that just means there have been 30 years of memories for hundreds of thousands of people — which is pretty darn cool. Happy 30th birthday to the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror! This iconic ride has been thrilling visitors of Disney’s Hollywood Studios since 1994 — can you believe it?! ©Disney Despite not being an opening day attraction (Hollywood Studios opened in 1989) this ride has become synonymous with this park and is often a must-do for people of all ages. The park map that debuted with the attraction promised, “Your next stop
a mysterious Hollywood hotel where the elevator takes a sudden detour into the fifth dimension and plummets straight down
from the thirteenth floor!” Hollywood Studios The story follows a “lost” episode of The Twilight Zone, hosted by Rod Serling, that ran from 1959 to 1964. A freak thunderstorm descends over the Hollywood Tower Hotel, shielding the important who’s who of Hollywood at the time. But, disaster strikes when lightning hits the hotel and causes the demise of elevator passengers and other guests. Hollywood Tower Hotel As riders, you enter a Fifth Dimension known as The Twilight Zone, and are forced to relive that fateful night — by dropping down an elevator shaft! Initially, the ride featured just one drop, and later a second and third were added. Then, the three drops were replaced with a randomized multi-drop sequence so you never know when you’ll be in free-fall! ©Disney The spooky, haunted hotel vibes combined with the unique ride system and thrilling drop make the Tower of Terror a favorite ride for so many Disney fans. Not only that, but it’s so iconic that there are other versions of the ride at Tokyo Disney Resort and Disneyland Paris. The Disney California Adventure version of the ride was replaced with Guardians of the Galaxy — Mission: Breakout!, but we still miss it! So, if you’re in Disney’s Hollywood Studios today or anytime soon — make sure you go ride Tower of Terror to celebrate this historic milestone. Creeeeeeepy! 10. Spooky Season Alert! Spooky Season Alert! (and no, this is not a drill!) Halloween decorations 2023 Sorry, it’s just hard to stay calm when the most wonderful time of the year is almost upon us. And Disney is getting us even more HYPED with their newest merch drop! DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. There are a lot of things we wish we could just take from Disney World and place in our homes, like the life-sized gingerbread houses displayed at the Grand Floridian for the holidays, or even Cinderella Castle itself (which I think might be too big to display in my backyard, so maybe it’s best it stays in the Magic Kingdom where it belongs). Although we might not be able to take these things with us, Disney is giving us the ULTIMATE fall decor piece we all wish we could own: the ICONIC Mickey Mouse jack-o-lantern wreath! Pumpkin Mickey! 11. We are suckers for celebrity sightings at the Disney parks! Sleeping Beauty Castle in Disneyland Paris This time we are headed over to France for a fun sighting. We spotted some special visitors making their way to Disneyland Paris recently and we had to share it with you! Disneyland Paris got some celebrity visitors over the weekend! Dave Bautista and Will Poulter made a trip to the Marvel Avengers Campus at Disneyland Paris. You may recognize both actors from the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. Dave Bautista plays Drax and Will Poulter plays Adam Warlock. However, both actors have large resumes featuring movies such as Dune, We’re the Millers, Blade Runner 2049, and many more. ©Disney The two actors joined Gamora and Star-Lord to celebrate the second anniversary of the Marvel Avengers Campus. The Marvel Avengers Campus in Disneyland Paris features the Avengers Assemble: Flight Force and Spider-Man W.E.B. Adventure attractions, as well as restaurants, shops, and character interactions. It is always fun to see celebrities making appearances at Disney parks! ©Disney The summer seems to be a popular time for celebrities to make their way to the parks. Recently we have also spotted Maneet Chauhan, Harry Shum, Jr., and members of Journey at Disney World, as well as Daisy Ridley at Disneyland Resort. 12. Are your Disney trips draining your wallet on the souvenir front? We may have a solution! Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout Look, cards on the table, we still get sticker shock when we look at many Disney souvenirs. That doesn’t mean we clutch our wallets, but we’re still always on the lookout for deals and savings on great Disney merch. With that in mind, we have to talk about a Disneyland souvenir that’s been incredibly affordable and right under our noses for years! Our reporters visit Disneyland multiple times a week and they’ve found favorite areas, stores, and hidden gem souvenirs. In fact, one of our reporters is a big collector of a specific souvenir that can be found at Disney California Adventure for just $4! Avengers Campus If you head over to Avengers Campus and the Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! ride exit, you’ll find a Guardians of the Galaxy-themed gift shop, The Collector’s Warehouse. This shop is tucked away in a corner that isn’t easy to find if you aren’t exiting the ride, but it is home to some killer tunes, lots of Marvel merch, and a souvenir that will cost you under $10. That souvenir is Marvel comics! The Collector’s Warehouse The Collector’s Warehouse is home to several modern Marvel comics that range in price from around $4 to $7 WITHOUT ANY DISCOUNT. If you have a Magic Key Pass, Disney will honor your discount and you can get that small price lowered even more! In fact, that’s exactly what our reporter does. He’s amassed a collection of THOUSANDS of comics over the years and he can often be seen leaving The Collector’s Warehouse with several comics after each visit. Marvel comics These comics are sold as single issues and are relatively up-to-date, so if you’re looking for old-school books or trades, you won’t find them here. However, Disney California Adventure does honor the cover prices on these comics, making them some of the cheapest Disney souvenirs you’ll find anywhere. Affordable and fun, these souvenirs get an A+ With a wide array of different stories and characters to choose from, The Collector’s Warehouse does a great job of keeping these comics in stock. Whether you’re an avid reader or just getting into comic books, these souvenirs are a great collector’s item on top of being just fun reads. Additionally, their low price makes getting multiple totally doable, and you can stack up the purchase and still pay less than you would have for some single-item souvenirs elsewhere in the parks. Fans of The Incredible Hulk should check out these souvenirs! So why doesn’t Disney overcharge for these comics? While there is no obvious answer, we can make a few deductions. Upcharging comic books regardless of cover price is not an illegal activity. However, Disney has refrained from doing that. Most of that can possibly be attributed to decent business practices. While Disney tends to upcharge for stuff in the parks, upcharging comics would be a bad look. For starters, these books have a listed price on the cover, so buyers will know what the books should cost. If they changed the prices at the counter, more often than not conflict would arise. Marvel comic books Marvel Comics officially became the property of The Walt Disney Company on December 31st, 2009, and a subsidiary of Disney Publishing Worldwide in March 2023, so they have financial investment in these books. As our reporter can attest, reading a comic book can be a gateway to purchasing more and more books, so Disney is ultimately playing the long game by being fair with its book prices. The Disney Parks also see a profit when buyers purchase books from their stores instead of retailers like Amazon and other comic book stores. The market is competitive, and while Disney sees profits either way on sales of their books, the Parks get a cut of that action when you buy in-park. Iron Man The cost of comics has steadily gone up over the years, but compared to the rest of Disney’s souvenirs, they’re an absolute steal. When the guests are happy and Disney is happy, everybody wins and these affordable souvenirs are definitely a win. Have you picked up these books at Avengers Campus? Do you now plan to? 13. If you’re planning a Disney World vacation, you might find getting reservations to some of the HOTTEST dining and experiences can be quite difficult. Magic Kingdom Want to grab a reservation for Chef Mickey’s at Disney’s Contemporary Resort? We wish you luck! Want to take a trip up a space elevator to experience Space 220 at EPCOT? That could be difficult to do. Want to make a lightsaber at Savi’s Workshop in Disney’s Hollywood Studios? Better make that reservation QUICKLY. Getting into Oga’s Cantina can also be a chore. One exclusive experience in Magic Kingdom used to be REALLY hard to get, but, y’all, something has HAPPENED. Are you familiar with Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique? This is an experience for kids where they can receive a princess or knight makeover, complete with a new outfit, hairstyle, makeup, and more. In the past, it’s also been a highly sought-after experience, meaning that getting reservations for it has been difficult, ESPECIALLY in Magic Kingdom (which makes sense because you can go grab those castle photos right after the makeover). Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique So, of course, you would never expect this location to accept walk-ins, right? Like it’s ALWAYS busy. Well, that has changed. Recently, we’ve noticed a sign in front of Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique indicating that it’s open to taking walk-ups during the day. Say what? And we’ve been seeing this sign A LOT recently. Walk-up availability today So what gives? Well, the experience is pricey, particularly for those princess makeovers. The most basic package, which includes hairstyling, sparkly makeup and a face gem, a princess sash and cinch snack, nail polish, and a Disney princess gown with matching accessories is $99.95. The most expensive option is $229.95, which includes everything in the basic package but with a deluxe princess gown, and a a coordinated boxed accessory set. There’s also a special Encanto package for $179.95. Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo Menu A Knight Package is also available, though, and it’s just $20. It includes hairstyling with gel and a sword and shield. SWEET. A Deluxe Knight Package goes for $79.95 and also includes a knight costume. ©Disney The experience also does take time out of your trip, as well, so maybe parents are not as willing now to give up part of their day in Magic Kingdom for a pricey experience that might not even last throughout the day (you know, because it involves kids). Whatever the reason behind the walk-up availability, it could be something your child is interested in, and if you can’t get a reservation, you might want to check about walk-up availability on your Magic Kingdom day — you never know! Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique princess dresses Of course, we think this spot could be a lot more popular if they opened the experience up to adults. We wouldn’t HESITATE to get a princess makeover in Disney World (you know, except for that pesky rule that says adults can’t wear costumes in the parks unless it’s for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party). 15. If you’ve spent any time outside in the Northern Hemisphere this summer, then you know just how hot it is out there. The heat can be unbearable Temperatures are soaring at Disney World (but we’ve got plenty of great tips on how to stay hydrated, cool, and find some shade!) and experts have even warned that this year’s Atlantic hurricane season will be worse because of warmer water temperatures as well. And, while we never thought we’d have to be worried about soda cans exploding on airplanes because of the heat, apparently, we do. It’s certainly no secret that it’s HOT out there y’all, but we never expected it to be “exploding cans of soda” hot. According to NPR, temperatures across the United States are so high that drinks have overheated and burst midair on multiple Southwest Airlines flights. Southwest plane A significant number of the airports where Southwest has a large presence are located in cities with record-breaking summer temperatures, such as Phoenix, Las Vegas, Austin, Dallas, Houston, and Sacramento. Experts have cited heat waves fueled by climate change for these extreme temperatures. ©Southwest Southwest confirmed that “heat has warped some cans and caused others to burst upon opening,” and that the problem has been communicated to employees “since the spring.” There have not been any reported incidents involving passengers, however. “We’re aware of the issue and have been taking steps to keep onboard beverages cooler, especially in our airports experiencing extreme temperatures,” said spokesperson Chris Perry. “For the Safety of our Employees and Customers, we are taking education and mitigation measures on all heat-related hazards,” he added. Southwest Airlines But, around 20 or so flight attendants have been injured by exploding cans, with one injury even requiring stitches — as first reported by CBS News. TWU Local 556, the union that represents Southwest flight attendants, has not responded to any requests for comments on the situation. Southwest Plane For now, the issue seems to only be impacting Southwest, likely because the airline handles in-flight beverages differently than other airlines. Since they don’t serve meals during flights, the company doesn’t handle perishables and does all its own provisioning. In response to the exploding cans, Southwest is testing air-conditioned cargo trucks in Phoenix and Las Vegas. Airport teams are also being instructed to use digital thermometers to take the temperature of cans before loading the planes, and to hold back any that read above 98 degrees Fahrenheit. In addition, flight attendants are being told to not open any cans that look misshapen or are hot to the touch. ©Southwest Be careful with those soda cans out there, people! You never know when one might go rogue and explode on you — especially if you’re on a flight! 18. Characters are a ton of fun to interact with while hanging out in the Disney World parks! We love meeting characters in Disney World! Meeting characters is not just for kids! Kids and adults alike enjoy these special interactions. Hugging your favorite character can make anyone’s day extra special. There are some characters that you can find regularly around the parks. Joy, Mickey, Minnie, Ariel, Edna Mode, Olaf, and more have daily meet and greets in designated locations that you can visit. However, there are a few characters that roam at random times on random days, and some characters are extremely RARE to see out and about. The other day, we stumbled upon one of these rare meet-and-greets! We were wandering around Hollywood Studios on July 19th when we headed into Toy Story Land. Here you can occasionally run into Woody and Jessie, but there’s one Toy Story character that we almost never see that happened to be there that day. Bo Peep!! It’s Bo Peep! Bo Peep was meeting people in Toy Story Land with Jessie! It was a girl’s land that day, and we were so excited to see her. According to the character attendant Cast Member who was with her, she has been hanging out at a lot of private events lately, and seeing her out during a regular park day was very RARE. Bo Peep and Jessie These two gal pals were certainly having fun with their biggest fans! They were having so much fun! You never know who you might see out and about in the parks! You can use your My Disney Experience app to check out the locations and times for characters who meet daily, but if you’re hoping to see a rare character, you’ll just have to keep your eyes peeled. It was a treat to see Bo Peep! Every once in a while you may also happen upon a Character Palooza in the parks. These are when multiple characters come out all at once to greet everyone, and they can include rare characters as well. These are not scheduled and can happen randomly. So like we said, keep your eyes and ears peeled for anything! A Character Palooza in action! Surprises like Bo Peep happen all the time in Disney World! There’s no limit to what a bit of Disney magic can bring to your day. Be ready to head to the parks, expect the unexpected, and keep a close lookout for anything extra fun going on. 20. It’s been a few days since a massive IT outage caused problems across the world on July 19th. Plane flying Those problems were most evident at major airports, including Orlando International Airport, where the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a ground stop. This resulted in numerous flight delays. Now, several days later, some airlines are still struggling to get their planes in the air due to the issue. The issue was due to a security update to CrowdStrike, a cybersecurity solution used by businesses around the world. The security update caused technical issues that globally impacted IT systems, including the systems used by U.S. Airlines. Thousands of flights were ultimately delayed, with many canceled. Those problems still seem to be continuing. According to CNN, more than 1,000 flights have been canceled as airlines struggle to recover from the massive IT outage. Orlando International Airport At Orlando International Airport, over 140 flights are delayed, and more than 50 have been canceled, according to FlightAware. Delta Airlines seems to be struggling the most with 46% of its flights delayed into and out of the airport and 21% of its flights canceled. Overall, Delta has seen over 600 cancellations so far throughout the U.S. The airline issued the following statement: “Additional cancellations are expected as some of Delta’s technology continues to recover from Friday morning’s vendor-caused issue.” ©Delta According to FlightAware, over 21,000 flights are currently delayed with over 1,200 having been canceled. 22. For years, Disney World has experimented with different ways to skip the lines at its popular attractions. There was FastPass+, there were paper tickets and kiosks, and eventually, there was Genie+. These days, if you want to access the Lightning Lane (a.k.a. the shorter “express lane”), you need to pay an additional fee. As it stands currently (now through July 23rd, 2024), Disney Genie provides access to Lightning Lanes as well as other planning tools to help you maximize your time in Disney World. But soon, this service is changing. Kali River Rapids Lightning Lane sign in Disney’s Animal Kingdom In fact, BIG changes are coming to Genie+ at Disney World SOON! Starting July 24th, 2024, there will be an official name for the Lightning Lane service that is currently part of Disney Genie. Say hello to Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass, an updated version of Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lanes. OK, this may sound confusing, but we’re here to help! Recently, it seems like Disney has taken a step to help clear up some confusion, too. We have a full guide to all the things that the Lightning Lane Multi Pass service can do, but for now, we’ll give you a short, simple overview of what’s changing. Disney Genie+ is now Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Individual Lightning Lanes are now Lightning Lane Single Pass. As of July 24th, you can: Make Lightning Lane plans before you’re in Disney World Choose your experiences and times prior to purchasing Book Lightning Lane passes for multiple vacation days, all in a single day Everything You Need to Know About Lightning Lane Multi Pass in Disney World We will have reporters live on the ground in Disney World on July 24th. They will be sharing everything they learn about the new service, what’s changed, and how to use the system to your advantage. Keep your eyes on our Instagram stories on July 24th for more information! New Lightning Lane changes are coming So, what is Disney doing to prepare for the changes? Well, for one thing, they’ve started prompting people to update their My Disney Experience app. Additionally, we spotted some NEW Lightning Lane Multi Pass informational brochures in Disney World! We got this one at Disney’s BoardWalk Resort. It reads, “Beginning July 24, get to some of your favorites faster with our new Lightning Lane passes! Lightning Lane Multi Pass replaces Disney Genie+ service, and Lightning Lane Single Pass replaces Individual Lightning Lane entry.” The rules are CHANGING! It looks like Disney tried to keep the explanation as short and simple as possible. There’s a section that explains what each pass can do for you and spells out the way you can now plan ahead. The guide states: Choose up to 3 Multi Pass experiences and arrival windows in one theme park before your visit. On the day of your visit, once you redeem a selection, you can use the My Disney Experience app to check availability for another Multi Pass experience — and add to your plans. Keep this in your park bag! There’s also a section on Lightning Lane Single Pass (Disney’s pay-per-ride system for its most popular rides). This section explains the process by saying: Secure a time to ride one of our most highly demanded attractions when you purchase a Lightning Lane Single Pass! You may purchase up to 2 Lightning Lane Single Passes per day, subject to availability. This could come in handy! Disney has more information on the back about using the service on the My Disney Experience app. Again, it seems like they tried to keep things simple with only three steps. Don’t forget — we’ll be sharing our full experience with the new service on July 24th! Here’s what it says on the back! One of the BIG changes with the new service is the timeline. Per Disney’s new guide, “If you’re staying at a Disney Resort Hotel, or other select hotels, you can purchase Lightning Lane passes up to seven days in advance of your check-in date. All other Guests can purchase up to three days prior to your first park day. You can purchase Lightning Lane passes beginning at 7AM on your first day of eligibility.” Here’s a closer peek We stopped by EPCOT’s Guest Relations counter AND a Guest Experience Team umbrella to see if they had any brochures. At the time of our visit, the only place to get these new paper guides was a Disney World hotel front desk. BoardWalk Inn Lobby Be sure to tune in on July 24th to see all the pros and cons of the updated skip-the-line service! And, if you’re in Disney World, we highly recommend picking up one of these guides at a Disney World hotel. In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more. 23. If you’ve been searching for an elegant Disney World restaurant that won’t let you down, we’ve found your match! Narcoossee’s meal We’ve been on a dining roll recently, reviewing restaurants and treat stops that haven’t failed us yet. Would one of the fanciest restaurants in all of Disney World break that streak for us? It was time to find out! Narcoossee’s is an upscale yet casual seafood restaurant located at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort. To find it, you’ll want to venture out of the main building and head towards the marina, as the building is in an interesting circular shape that juts out into the Seven Seas Lagoon. Narcoosee’s This restaurant is a signature dining venue, and you must adhere to a dress code. The entire dining room was recently refurbished, and the menu was updated. Since it’s so close to the waterfront, it’s a prime location to take in the sights and sounds of the Electric Water Pageant and the Magic Kingdom Fireworks if you time your visit just right! Atmosphere The atmosphere of this restaurant is very bright and relaxing. It’s got a more coastal or nautical theme, and the various shades of blue and turquoise seem to shine in the setting sunlight. There’s lots of natural light that billows in from the windows, which gives you an excellent opportunity to look out at the lagoon while you’re enjoying your meal. Table setting While plush booth seating is available, standalone tables, which are smaller and more intimate, are also available — the perfect setting for an exquisite meal! View from our seats Once we were seated at our table, we were offered our menus. Menu Narcoosee’s will offer you a few menus when you dine here. One will be for your main courses, featuring appetizers, starters, soups, salads
 Starters
entrees, sides, and enhancements. Entrees and more Another menu will be for your specialty cocktails, zero-proof cocktails
 Spirits
beer and non-alcoholic beverage options. More drinks Lastly, you’ll have several desserts and after-dinner cocktails to choose from. Dessert menu After browsing their selections of everything we could choose from, we went with an interesting array of dishes that we felt could satisfy multiple palettes. Drinks We opted to order the Yuzu-Black Peppercorn Gin and Tonic first! This drink is made of Monkey 47 Gin, Aperol Liqueur, House-made Yuzu-Black Peppercorn Tonic, Lemon Grass, Beet Root, and Soda Water and is priced at $16. Yuzu-Black Peppercorn Gin & Tonic This turned out to be an amazing gin cocktail! All of the flavors within it were very pronounced and overall refreshing. This is a great option for a light start to dinner on after a hot day. You have to like acidity to your drink though as the yuzu is a bit like lemon but it’s not overly acidic. A closer look We followed up one great drink with another in the Salted Mascarpone Espresso Martini. This drink is made of Grey Goose Vodka, KahlĂșa Liqueur, Joffrey’s Coffee Italian Espresso, and Cane Sugar with Mascarpone-DISARONNO Originale Liqueur Foam and is priced at $18. Salted Mascarpone Espresso Martini This one gave the Yuzu Gin & Tonic a run for its money in terms of our favorite of the evening. The mascarpone is so fluffy and light it’s like a slightly salty, sweet cloud. The drink itself is a classic Disney espresso martini –light and sweet– but the addition of the mascarpone makes it so fun and interesting. Eats We started things off with the bread service, which turned out to be one of our favorite breads in all of Disney World! We found it to be super crusty, but it’s a thin crust, so not too tricky to bite through. Then it’s super soft and airy in the middle. The sea salt butter is not super spreadable, but it’s got a nice creamy flavor that pairs well with a bit of tang from the bread. Bread Service From there, we tried the Brisket and Ricotta Tortelloni, which is served with parsnip, brown butter, Sultana raisins and priced at $17. Brisket and Ricotta Tortelloni We found the ricotta to be so creamy and smooth, which helped elevate this dish for us. The tortelloni was stuffed perfectly, with the bites being about 40% filling. The brisket was savory, tender, juicy, and melted in our mouths with minimal grease. The raisins added a really subtle sweetness to cut through some of the salt, and we can’t say enough good things about this dish! Inside look Up next was the Lobster Bisque which also includes butter-poached Lobster, vanilla, coral, and is priced at $19. Lobster Bisque Wow, was this creamy and so so flavorful! It was packed with the buttery, meaty lobster flavor but perfectly smooth. It’s poured table side over the beautifully presented add-ins, which left a lasting impression on us. We especially thought the creamy butter was an unbelievable addition. Getting a bite with the butter, the bisque, and the chunks of lobster was so complex, while still having a familiar flavor. If you’re looking for a soup that can stand on its own and really give you something to talk about, this is worth trying for sure! Delicious It was time to turn our attention to Red Wine-glazed Salmon. This dish is made of confit tomatoes and potatoes, lacinato kale, pickled mustard seed, harissa romesco, and Vidalia soubise and is priced at $46. Red Wine Glazed Salmon Ok, this was AMAZING! It was so impeccably cooked, and the glaze plus the sides were full of complex savory flavors without feeling unapproachable. One of our reporters likened the glaze to a fancy barbecue flavor, and we think that’s fair because a lot of the fruity, heavy flavor of the wine comes out. However, we also have to mention that the potatoes were the star of the show here. We love the sun-dried tomatoes and the greens (though they could be a bit salty if you get them alone). The pickled mustard seed honestly was our favorite bit, adding the perfect tang, and there was enough to have a little in every bite. But we’ve also got to mention that the salmon was so perfectly cooked that it was hard to keep it on the fork because it was so tender and flaky. The POTATOES! The Gulf Shrimp Bucatini was up next! This dish was made with house-made bucatini pasta, roasted tomatoes, savoy spinach, parsley, and basil pistou and is priced at $42. Gulf Shrimp Bucatini It should surprise no one at this point that the next dish was equally as thrilling. The sauce in this dish is some of the best tomato-based pasta sauce we’ve ever had. We found it to be incredibly colorful, creamy, and savory. The sun-dried tomatoes added a wonderful acidic flavor to the mix. The noodles were wonderfully al dente. The shrimp was cooked nice and plump and wasn’t overcooked or rubbery. The pesto was super bright, but we think the real star was the tomato sauce. If we were to return in the near future, we would absolutely get this dish again! Gulf Shrimp Bucatini We opted for the Almond-crusted Cheesecake for dessert! This one is served with Lambert cherry sauce and chantilly and is priced at $17. Almond-crusted Cheesecake Wow, where to start! We loved this. Seriously, this one was life-changing. This could very easily rank highly on the list of best desserts we’ve ever had at a table service restaurant in Disney World. We could make a return trip just for this dessert EASILY. It’s a super creamy cheesecake built with delicious and flavorful sugared almonds. It almost had a frangipani flavor to it (think sweet, floral, tropical), and the tart cherries on the side were the perfect balancing element. Plus, when we discovered you could add whipped cream to this — we were living the DREAM. Overall Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Narcoosee’s, a restaurant that very rarely lets us down. We were pleased to find that we were still discovering new and fresh flavors from their revised menu and we’re drooling just reminiscing about our experience there. View from our seats If you find yourself in search of an excellent restaurant to celebrate an occasion, enjoy an incredible array of dishes, or just treat yourself to something fancy for an evening we can’t recommend Narcoosee’s enough! Nosh or Not? Stroll on down to Narcoosee’s if

  24. We can never over-stress the importance of a good park bag, but we know everyone has their own preferences when it comes to what kind of park bag to use. UK Pavilion at EPCOT For example, belt bags are great if you only want to carry a few essentials. We tend to be SUCKERS for Loungefly bags because they allow us to express all our Disney nerdiness and are big enough to carry things like water bottles, chargers, phones, and more. However, Lug bags are now becoming pretty popular, and we’ve seen some of the crossbody Lug bags (like the Figment one) sell out in SECONDS. Well, Lug makes cute backpacks, too, and we just found the one you need at EPCOT. We found this MAGICAL Tinker Bell Lug Backpack at The Queen’s Table store in the U.K. Pavilion, and we are obsessed. These backpacks are a little bigger than the mini backpacks, so if you need a bigger bag than the typical Loungefly, these are the BEST. Plus, LOOK at it. Tink is on the front with the words “
Just a little bit of pixie dust.” There’s also a front zippered pocket — which ALWAYS comes in handy for those items you grab often throughout the day. Tink! The sides of the bag have a pattern of shooting stars with a Tinker Bell silhouette. There are also pockets on each side of the bag for anything that might fit in there (water bottles, for example). Side Another thing we LOVE about these bags is their super padded straps. That means you can carry this backpack around all day comfortably. Nicely padded straps This bag is $110, and we’re not sure how long it will last, so if you’ve got your eyes on it, you might want to make your way to EPCOT quickly. We’ll be keeping an eye out for more new Disney merchandise throughout Disney World, so stay tuned to DFB for more. While you’re in the shopping mood

  25. I’ve eaten at every Disney World restaurant, every snack stand, and every EPCOT festival booth in the 15 years since I started Disney Food Blog. Disney World’s Magic Kingdom Y’all, there are so many restaurants I absolutely LOVE, but I have to be honest and tell you there are also some I would NEVER recommend. Wait
never say never, AJ. There is one spot in EPCOT I used to warn people away from that has turned into a place I definitely think you should try! What do you do when there's a nearly 3-month gap between the EPCOT Flower & Garden Festival and the EPCOT Food & Wine Festival? You throw yourself a big old DFB Mega Fest! We've got loads of giveaways, behind the scenes content, and untold crazy stories from AJ Wolfe and the DFB team. Come celebrate DFB Mega Fest with us! I’m talking about Regal Eagle Smokehouse. Regal Eagle Smokehouse This restaurant is themed around The Muppets’ Sam Eagle, and you’ll find nods to him and more of The Muppets throughout the restaurant. Sam Eagle Sipper at Regal Eagle Smokehouse This is serious barbecue, and the menu includes Memphis Dry-Rub Pork Ribs, a Sliced Texas Beef Brisket Sandwich, and a Kansas City Half-Smoked Chicken. Memphis Dry Rub Pork Ribs There are also sides like these Baked Beans with Burnt Ends (I REALLY like these)
 Baked Beans with Burnt Ends
and desserts including THIS S’MORES BROWNIE. S’mores Brownie at Regal Eagle This is SOLID food — a fast casual restaurant with some serious table service quality. Regal Eagle Smokehouse opened about a month before Disney World shut down for the pandemic in 2020, and I couldn’t wait to try it again when it re-opened later in 2020. But this spot? Well, it used to be a little place called Liberty Inn. Liberty Inn Sign The menu at Liberty Inn included cheeseburgers, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, pulled pork sandwiches, and a variety of desserts. The food was sub-par, and the only reason I could recommend eating here was the plentiful seating in AC. There were just too many better food options in EPCOT’s World Showcase. Grilled Chicken Wrap at Liberty Inn I was not sad to see Liberty Inn go. And it turns out that in its place we got an inspired renovation into an “all-American” concept that still fits in the American Pavilion — but with character. They do a great job at Regal Eagle food-wise! Barbecued Pulled Chicken Sandwich at Regal Eagle Smokehouse Just goes to show — never say never when it comes to Disney World Restaurants.
