  1. Something NEW has popped up at Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort! All-Star Sports Resort Disney is always looking for ways to innovate and bring the latest technology to the parks and hotels, and now it looks like they’ve done just that. It’s about to be a whole lot easier to get your food at Disney World food courts. At least, we think it might be! At Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort, something NEW has popped up in the End Zone Food Court — the hotel’s only eatery. There are now self-checkout stations powered by artificial intelligence (AI) to help folks pay for their food a bit faster. That’s the idea, anyway. We tested the new system out and it didn’t appear to be working entirely as planned just yet. NEW self-checkout system We decided to grab a kids’ Mickey Waffle meal to test things out, and when the system tried to scan our items — the meal rang up as a pulled pork sandwich. Luckily, there are Cast Members stationed nearby to assist and they were easily able to fix the issue in the system, but it still was a bit of a hiccup. Scanning our meal It was relatively easy to use aside from the mixup, however. We just placed our items spaced out on the tray beneath the scanner, and once the Cast Member fixed the wrong item issue we were able to confirm our items and price, pay, and we were all good to go! We could see this new system saving a ton of time and potential headaches when it comes to grabbing your food quickly from hotel food courts. A Cast Member had to fix our order When we spoke to a Cast Member about it, they informed us that the new system is being tested on a “30-day rollout” and if the testing is successful, the self-checkouts would be added to other resorts. But, if the system can’t get the hang of things — it will most likely disappear altogether. For now, Disney is just referring to the new registers as self-checkouts without any real specific name for them. Paid and good to go! While this new system is clearly still in its testing phase, if it does end up getting the hang of things it could save folks quite a bit of time in those food court lines during busy meals. We’ll continue to keep an eye on it and let you know if it pops up at any other Disney World hotels! 5. BIG changes are coming to the Disneyland Resort and Disney California Adventure in particular! Disney California Adventure Over the summer, Disney held the D23 2024: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event where the company announced several expansions and changes coming to the Disney Parks and experiences. One major expansion announced was an Avatar-themed land coming to Disney California Adventure! While there’s still a ton we don’t know about regarding this new land, certain announcements and the concept art have given us some insight, especially about new attractions. So what exactly do we know about this brand-new Avatar expansion? Disney has confirmed that although Pandora — The World of AVATAR in Disney World’s Animal Kingdom already exists, Disney California Adventure’s dip into the Avatar IP will be different. According to Disney, this new land will “bring Pandora to life in a brand-new way” and will take heavy inspiration from Avatar: The Way of Water, Avatar: Fire and Ash, and future Avatar films. ©Disney While much has yet to be discovered about the new expansion, we do know that this new area of Pandora will feature a unique-to-Disney California Adventure boat ride. Avatar Boat Ride Per Disney, this new ride will be a “thrilling excursion that will bring all the action, excitement, and wonder of Avatar, taking guests all the way to the wide-open seas of Pandora.” ©Disney How thrilling this ride will be has yet to be determined (i.e. drops and special effects), but we do know it is meant to be an epic adventure that features “the beauty — and danger — that come along with the journey.” ©Disney In concept art, we’ve seen some scenes of danger mixed in with beauty, so it appears that the ride will have tonal shifts, not all that dissimilar from another classic Disneyland boat ride, Pirates of the Caribbean. It’ll be interesting, especially, to see how the ride plays with the water themes and vibrant landscapes. ©Disney We’ve been following the development of this new Avatar experience for quite some time, and have had only speculation to play with before the official announcement. The Disneyland Resort is about to undergo a massive expansion thanks to the approval of Disneyland Forward, but it doesn’t have the same amount of space as Disney World, so attractions and lands may need to be removed in order to make way for this new Avatar Land. Specifically, Hollywood Land and the Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! could be the causality here. Of course, this is still speculative and nothing official has been announced. Concept art for an Avatar area in Anaheim ©Disney Additionally, it’s possible that the land gets more than one ride. Pandora at Animal Kingdom features Avatar Flight of Passage as well as Na’vi River Journey, so we’ll see if that’s something California Adventure adopts. It appears as though this new Avatar ride is a spiritual successor to Na’vi River Journey, so maybe we’ll see something similar to Flight of Passage in the future at the Anaheim theme park! Na’vi River Journey We’ll continue to keep you posted on all the latest expansion updates from the Disneyland Resort so stay tuned right here at DFB to stay in the know! 6. The Walt Disney Company has been going through quite a few changes lately, and it all started with the return of Bob Iger to his previous position of CEO. Walt Disney Studios Overall, the company’s financials have been trending upwards, with Disney finally issuing cash dividends to shareholders in late 2022 after years of being paused. We recently learned just how Disney was doing during the final earnings call of fiscal year 2024, and now, Disney has announced another cash dividend increase for shareholders. The Walt Disney Company Board of Directors has declared an increased cash dividend of $1.00 per share. This marks a 33% increase over the $0.75 per share that was paid to investors during fiscal year 2024. ©Disney If you’re a shareholder, you can expect the dividend to be paid in two installments of $0.50 per share. December 16th, 2024 is the first record date, followed by a January 16th, 2025 payable date. Then, there will be another record date on June 24th, 2025, followed by a July 23rd, 2025 payable date. ©Disney Disney CEO Bob Iger shared a statement regarding the cash dividend and said: “It’s been a highly successful year for The Walt Disney Company, stemming from the extensive strategic work across the company to improve quality, innovation, efficiency, and value creation. With the company operating from a renewed position of strength, we are pleased to increase the dividend for shareholders while continuing to invest for the future and drive sustained growth through Disney’s world-class portfolio of assets.” ©Disney The Walt Disney Company held its earnings call for the fourth and final quarter of fiscal year 2024 in November, and we learned quite a bit about just how the company is doing financially. Between the parks and Disney Cruise Line, streaming services, and other aspects of the company, Disney reported having “record revenue and operating income for the full year,” which would track with this increased payout on the way for shareholders. Even after reporting $130 million in hurricane-related losses to Disney World, the company still reported “a pivotal and successful year.” Cinderella Castle Here’s a peek at the financial numbers from the most recent earnings call: Revenues for the quarter: $22.6 billion, up 6% from prior-year quarter Diluted earnings per share: $0.25, up 79% from prior-year quarter Diluted earnings per share, excluding certain items: $1.14, up 39% from prior-year quarter If you’re a Disney shareholder, keep an eye out for additional correspondence from the company on how to collect your cash dividends. 7. A very special guest made a stop by the Country Bear Musical Jamboree recently! Country Bear Musical Jamboree The new show opened in the Magic Kingdom on July 17th, 2024, replacing the iconic Country Bear Jamboree. Some of the changes included some new voices for the characters, and the voice of one of the characters recently stopped by Disney World. In an Instagram post, he mentioned that he grew up going to Disney Parks and still remembers the first time he brought his son to the parks. He wrote, “every time we go, it’s like I get to be 9 again WITH him.” In addition to stopping by Country Bear Musical Jamboree to watch Wendell in action, the family made their way around Disney World, including a stop by Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. We loved seeing Chris Thile’s reaction to Wendell, and we are glad they had a great time at Disney World! Wendell ©Disney You never know who you might spot at Disney World! 10. Once upon a time, there was a show in Disney’s Hollywood Studios called “Voyage of the Little Mermaid.” Voyage of the Little Mermaid The show was a retelling of the animated The Little Mermaid movie with live actors singing some of the most iconic songs from that film. However, the show has been closed since 2020. “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure” is a reimagining of the previous show, bringing a live-action re-telling — in a new way — back to Hollywood Studios. The show was originally supposed to debut in fall 2024, but Disney pushed its opening back to summer 2025. Now, though, we are finally seeing something happening with the new show! We recently saw a casting notice for the show to find its Ariel and Prince Eric. Now, a new casting notice has been posted for the show. This casting notice is also looking to find an Ariel and Prince Eric…now, that’s interesting. The audition notice describes both characters and notes that Ariel needs to be a lyrical pop soprano singer, while Eric will not be required to sing. ©Disney We learned more about the show in June 2024, including details about how it would feature a combination of live actors, puppets, digital animation, and live motion capture to replicate the show’s underwater setting. It sounds SO COOL. The show will also feature two songs that weren’t included in “Voyage of the Little Mermaid”: “Daughters of Triton” and “Kiss the Girl.” ©Disney The story will follow the story from The Little Mermaid animated film, but it will be focused on telling the story from Ariel’s point of view. We can’t wait! We’ll be keeping an eye out for more knews about “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure,” so stay tuned to DFB for more. Frontier Airlines In mid-2025, Platinum and Diamond Elite members will also be able to fly with a companion for NO extra cost on any Frontier flight. 13. How much cash are you willing to shell out for an elite dessert? Amorette’s Patisserie Let’s face it, visiting Disney World doesn’t happen without dropping a pretty penny. Sure, there are obvious expenses like park tickets, Lightning Lane passes, and lodging, but if you’re a dessert fiend like us, you can quickly rack up a large bill just on sweets alone. Some desserts at Disney World come with a hefty price tag, including a couple at Amorett’s Patisserie in Disney Springs. In fact, we stopped by to try a few EXPENSIVE Disney holiday desserts! How much is too much for a good cake? Well, we spent $67 on a specialty cake at Amorette’s Patisserie and we have to tell you all about it! Amorette’s Patisserie spread The cake is a part of some seasonal offerings at Amorette’s, which will be available for a limited time this winter. Amorette’s Holiday Collection If you’ve ever wanted a large Mickey dome cake themed after a Christmas toy solider, you’re in luck! Toy Solider Mickey Dome Cake The Toy Soldier Mickey Dome Cake at Amorette’s Patisserie is made with chocolate chiffon, milk chocolate mousse, and coconut-pecan filling and will set you back a whopping $67 before tax. Amorette’s Patisserie sells year-round $67 specialty dome cakes that serve 8 to 10 people, but this one in particular is available only until December 31st, 2024. It’s so shiny! The presentation of this cake is outstanding, but $67 is a steep price. The design is very cute though, and we are fans of the chocolate decorations. As for the cake itself, it’s like a German chocolate cake coated in a thick outer layer of fluffy chocolate mousse. Ours had a great texture and was very similar to the regular dome cake. Inside the cake Be careful taking this outside, because we found that things in the atmosphere would stick to it. Because of this, we devoured it inside and we’re happy to report that it’s pretty good! The cake is super sugary and packed with flavor and, overall, we were mostly satisfied. Still, with that price tag, this is more of a special occasion cake, especially if you don’t plan on sharing it with multiple people. We love how unique it looks and we’d get it again, but that price tag is super offputting. Plenty of sugary bites If you want a specialty holiday cake but don’t want to drop around $70, check out the Christmas Present Petit Cake! This cake is very similar to the Toy Soldier Mickey Dome Cake and is also made with chocolate chiffon, milk chocolate mousse, and coconut-pecan filling. However, this much smaller cake is $22 before tax, which is still expensive but a far cry from $67. Christmas Present Petit Cake This dessert also has a ton of German chocolate cake vibes and has a little gel center, as well. Ours wasn’t dense at all and was very light, which was appreciated. This is another adorable cake and the”Dear Santa” scroll and little sugar stocking stuffers were really great additions. A light cake Overall, this is a pretty tasty treat and is super photogenic, if that’s something you want with your desserts. Be sure to grab one before it disappears after December 28th, 2024! Very tasty We tried a couple of desserts under $10, including this Christmas Snickerdoodle Cookie Croissant for $8.25. This dessert is made with croissant dough, a Snickerdoodle cookie, and a holiday sprinkle plaque. This cookie croissant is available through December 31st, 2024. Christmas Snickerdoodle Cookie Croissant Unfortunately, our Christmas Snickerdoodle Cookie Croissant was a little too hard. It was difficult to break through and we were hoping that it would be a bit lighter. The taste also didn’t blow us away. We got hints of the Snickerdoodle, which was akin in flavor to gingerbread, but it was so tough to get past the crunch. It’s an OK treat, but nothing special. This guy was TOUGH Finally, we tried the Winter Macaron Sandwich, which is made with macaron, almond cheesecake, and cranberry-cherry jam. This $7.50 treat is available at Amorette’s Patisserie now through January 4th, 2025. Winter Macaron Sandwich This dessert reminded us of an almond cheesecake. The macaron itself was pretty standard and was dyed blue. However, the cranberry cherry jam is the star here. We got cream cheese and black cherry flavors, making the jam a very pleasant surprise. The gold flakes and little sprinkles at the top were also super cute. Overall, this small treat was a big win and we’d happily get this again! The inside is deceptively delicious Expensive Disney World desserts can often be very tasty, but many times they can fall just outside a budget. For example, we’ve gone over how prices at the new Cake Bake Shop can be too much, but you can find suitable slices of cake at Gideon’s Bakehouse that are more than $10 cheaper! Did someone say CAKE?! If something like the Cake Bake Shop’s prices put you off, try the Magic Cookie Bar from Roaring Fork in Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. It’s only $4.79 and super tasty! Magic Cookie Bar Another good budget snack that’s one of our favorites is Werther’s Caramel Butter Bar, which can be found at several different locations in Disney World. Iconic If you’re willing to go up in price, check out the No Way Jose at Beaches & Cream Soda Shoppe at Disney’s Beach Club Resort! This treat is $13.50 but is pretty large. If you want to save some money or don’t have the appetite, try the also-tasty-yet-smaller All-American Sundae at Plaza Ice Cream Parlor in Magic Kingdom. In fact, you may not even have to travel very far to grab this new popcorn bucket. It all depends on how far away the nearest Regal theater is from you. 16. It’s no secret that we’re excited for the opening of Epic Universe, but we also admit that we’re a little nervous. ©Universal Opening an entire new park comes with lots of excitement, but also lots of room for error and for things to go wrong that need to be fixed ASAP so the park can function at its full capacity and meet the masses of people that are arriving to experience it for the first time. Which is why we’re surprised we’re not all talking more about this HUGE issue that’s bound to arise for the new park. Inside the new Epic Universe park will be the Grand Helios Hotel. This new hotel will give guests direct access into the park (a separate entrance than all other guests will use), and currently is available for bookings. The hotel is set to open on May 22nd, 2025, and guests can expect to pay a minimum of $293 per night plus tax based on a 4-night stay. Universal Helios Grand Hotel ©Universal Studios While the pricing is about on par with some of Universal Orlando’s other higher-end hotels, and we understand the price tag since it comes with the massive perk of staying right at the new park, there’s one BIG perk that Universal Orlando’s other higher end hotels like Loews Portofino Bay DO have that the Helios Grand Hotel is missing, and that’s NO EXPRESS PASS! ©Universal One of the biggest perks of staying at the current higher-end Universal Orlando hotels, which are the Hard Rock Hotel, Loews Portofino Bay, and Loews Royal Pacific Hotel, are that you get Universal’s Express Pass included with your stay for EVERY day of your vacation. That’s a huge perk, especially when you’re staying in the busy season when Express Pass prices sky rocket. However at this time, the Helios Grand Hotel is NOT offering Express Pass for any of the Universal Orlando parks. Universal Orlando Express Pass So while yes, you’ll be gaining a perk of staying in the backyard of Epic Universe, you’ll be paying the same price (and potentially more) than at the Hard Rock Hotel, Loews Portofino Bay, or Loews Royal Pacific Hotel, but missing out on a massive offering that will likely be very necessary when visiting the parks at busier times. At this time it’s possible the offering could be added to the hotel in the future, but it’s also just as likely that it won’t be! More Recent Epic Universe News! 17. Celebrities LOVE Disney World — we often see them hanging around enjoying some time at The Most Magical Place on Earth. Magic Kingdom Hey, we get it. We’re just like Charlize Theron and visit every chance we can get (minus her incredible acting talent and bank account). We’ve even recently saw Josh Gad narrate the Candlelight Processional at the EPCOT Festival of the Holidays, and we know he even spent some time in Animal Kingdom during his visit. John Stamos NEVER stops visiting and talking about his love for Disney. Well, we saw a celebrity recently who couldn’t stop TALKING about her latest trip to Disney World. She even mentioned how much she loves Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. And she pointed out her Disney tour guides in the audience! Pointing out her tour guides When Nickel Creek came on stage to join her, they continued the conversation for about another 5 minutes. EVERYONE loves Disney World, y’all. The discussion continues It was a lot of fun to see how much a celebrity like Musgraves really enjoyed our favorite place in the world — and we totally get it. We love it, too! 19. Disney has been working hard to expand ESPN and to seamlessly provide consumers with sports content. ©ESPN A direct-to-consumer sports streaming platform has been discussed at length, and CEO Bob Iger continues to look for ways to bring us better sports entertainment. One of the most talked about ways of doing that has been the addition of the ESPN tile to Disney+. This tile would act similarly to the Hulu tile, which was recently added. This makes it easy for subscribers to access all their content in one location. Well, after talking about this coming service for a while now, it has officially launched! As of December 4th, Disney+ subscribers will see the ESPN tile right on the homepage of their Disney+ app. This will provide a new hub with select sports content, all within a single app. The new service will provide live coverage of sports games, giving more people the ability to enjoy the content. ©Disney According to Disney, it will be a “seamlessly integrated viewing experience.” Options are available right away, with lots to come! John Lasker, Senior Vice President of EPSN+, shared, “In the first 90 days, bundle subscribers should expect 5,000 live events, including NFL, NBA, NHL, College Basketball, and Australian Open. Also, new originals from 30 for 30 and ESPN Original Series.” Standalone Disney+ subscribers are now able to access a selection of live sports, studio shows, and ESPN Films from ESPN+. This will include The Simpson Funday Football animated Monday Night Football game, a lineup of five NBA games on Christmas Day, a Dunk the Halls animated NBA presentation, and the first day of coverage of the Australian Open. Of course, you can also enjoy a select collection of TV shows and movies from Hulu. ©Disney Alisa Bowen, President of Disney+, stated, “One of the things I’m most excited about with this launch is that we’re also making the ESPN and Hulu tiles visible to all subscribers. That means for our Disney+ standalone subscribers, they’ll have a really easy way to discover everything we offer from these two incredible brands and have the ability to upgrade their subscription for the full bundle experience.” ©Disney Disney is excited about this new addition to Disney+ and the groundwork it lays for the upcoming launch of ESPN’s flagship direct-to-consumer product, which is expected to be available in the Fall of 2025. If you’re looking for sports content to enjoy over the holidays, head to your Disney+ app to enjoy all the great content in one place! You can enjoy those holiday movies and live sports right from the Disney+ app. For more Disney news, keep following DFB! How Much Will Disney’s NEW Sports Streaming Service Cost? 20. Being a Disney World fan isn’t for the faint of heart — and that’s especially true if you’re a Disney World Annual Passholder. Disney World Annual Pass Sure, there are plenty of perks that come along with being a passholder, like free parking at the parks, discounts on dining, shopping, and hotels, and of course, admission to the theme parks. But, there’s something else being a Disney World Annual Passholder comes with: price increases. And, we think we might know when we can expect even more Annual Pass price increases for Disney World. Disney World Annual Pass prices are increasing… eventually. We may not have an official announcement from Disney about the next round of price increases just yet, but we do have a pretty good idea based on past price increases — including the most recent ones. APs this way Annual Passes have increased in price exponentially over the years, with many longtime passholders deciding not to renew because of the ever-growing prices and ever-shrinking perks. But, being an Annual Passholder still comes with plenty of benefits that might make it appealing enough for you to want to dip your toes into the water. We certainly don’t blame you — after all, going to Disney World every day is kind of our whole thing. Stitch magnet Disney’s current Annual Pass system was introduced when the parks reopened after the COVID-19 pandemic, and we’ve seen a couple of increases since then — both in October, one in 2023 and the other just recently in 2024. But, prior to that, we’d often see price increases hit Annual Passes in October and February. Magic Kingdom Annual Passholder entrance Here’s a look at the current pricing for Disney World Annual Passes from the October 2024 increases, along with the previous pricing: Disney Incredi-Pass: $1,549 (previously $1,449) Disney Sorcerer Pass: $1,079 (previously $999) Disney Pirate Pass: $829 (previously $799) Disney Pixie Dust Pass: $469 (previously $439) Annual Pass Card At the end of the day, only Disney knows when Disney is going to raise prices on Annual Passes. But, if history is any indication, it’s possible that we could see price increases hit during these times — which means you should be prepared. If you’re considering buying a new Annual Pass, you might want to think about doing it before next October rolls around otherwise you might fall victim to those pesky price increases. Magic Kingdom No matter what, you can guarantee that we’ll be on the lookout for price increases in Disney World and Disneyland. 21. Magic Kingdom is about to undergo a MASSIVE transformation. Rivers of America First, the park is getting a Pirates of the Caribbean lounge, which is set to open in late 2025. Then there’s the new Villains land that we are ALL eagerly waiting to learn more about. An entire part of the park, Rivers of America, and Tom Sawyer Island, is set to be demolished to make way for a new Cars expansion that will expand Frontierland. Disney previously filed the first permit to begin the demolishment of that section of the park but recently had to request an extension for that permit. In August 2024, Disney filed a permit for 407 Basin Stormwater Modifications. The summary of the project stated, “Construction of a stormwater management master treatment facility to provide stormwater quality treatment for improvements within Canal L407/L407A and L405 Basins within the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District.” The project site is just east of Magic Kingdom. Permit number 48-00714-P Basically, that permit made it seem like Disney needs to build a treatment facility for stormwater drained from the area. Under Environmental Impacts, the permit read, “The project has 7.3 acres of surface water impacts to Rivers of America,” which leads us to believe this permit is for beginning work on the big Cars expansion in the park. Permit number 48-00714-P In September, the S0uth Florida Water Management District requested additional information for the permit. An additional letter was sent on December 3rd, giving Disney 10 days to get that information and correct the permit to the district or the permit will be denied. ©South Florida Water Management District The Central Florida Tourism District has responded with its own letter, requesting a 60-day extension for Disney to respond to the original request made in September. ©Central Florida Tourism District Disney will likely not proceed with any construction until this permit has been approved and will need to file other permits for the actual demolition and construction work to take place in Magic Kingdom. Disney has not yet revealed an opening timeline for the new Cars expansion, nor for the Villains land expansion, and we might not see work actually beginning for either until mid or late 2025 until all permits are submitted and approved. We’ll keep an eye out for more details, so stay tuned to DFB for more. 22. Disney has been VERY busy recently with announcements concerning the theme parks. ©Disney Earlier this year, we learned about a new Avatar land and Coco ride coming to Disneyland, along with an expansion to Avengers Campus. Disney World is getting a Villains show, a Monsters, Inc. land, a Tropical Americas-themed land, two new Cars rides, and a Villains land, among other things. Well, recently, Disney started dropping some opening timelines for some of the new things coming to Disney World — and we couldn’t be more excited. So let’s get to all the opening timelines (and one closing timeline) Disney recently revealed for Disney World. Spaceship Earth Lounge The Spaceship Earth Lounge coming to EPCOT was first announced at this year’s big D23 event. Although we don’t yet know where the lounge will be located, Disney promised fantastic views of the World Celebration gardens, as well as a “unique perspective of the nightly fireworks.” The interior will take inspiration from Spaceship Earth’s design. ©Disney So when can we expect to be chilling inside the Spaceship Earth Lounge? Disney revealed the lounge is set to open in late spring 2025. That’s not far away AT ALL! Everything we know so far about the Spaceship Earth Lounge Test Track We are getting so PUMPED for the new version of Test Track, although Disney hasn’t really dropped a lot of details about what the reimagined ride might be like. But we do know that it will have a new storyline built around “a joy ride through scenes focusing on onboard technology, customization and personalization. Followed by a trip through a scenic outdoor route reminding us all of the joys of driving, taking in the world around us and spending quality time with friends and family.” ©Disney Disney did reveal, though, that the NEW version of Test Track will open in late summer 2025. We previously only knew it would open next year, so now we have a general idea of when we’ll be able to ride it. More about Test Track’s opening timeline Dinosaur Okay, so we know that Dinosaur will eventually have to close to make way for a new attraction and Tropical Americas-themed land in Disney’s Animal Kingdom that will take over Dinoland, U.S.A. Disney has previously announced that the re-theming of Dinoland will be done in phases and that Dinosaur will still be available to ride, at least for a little while. Dr. Grant Seeker will be unemployed soon Well, now, we know when Dinosaur will officially close, and the good news is you’ll have a lot of time to ride it before it does. Disney officially announced that “2025 is your year to visit it before it goes extinct!” So if you’re wanting to “get that dino” one more time, you’ll need to do so before the end of 2025. Learn more about the land replacing Dinoland, U.S.A. Pirates of the Caribbean Lounge We are almost TOO stoked about the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean Lounge coming to Magic Kingdom. The lounge will welcome guests of all ages with a variety of food and drinks plus Disney has promised some “magical surprises.” Well, now we know when we’ll be able to rub elbows with fellow Pirates fans in this lounge. An all-new lounge themed to Pirates of the Caribbean will open at Magic Kingdom in 2025. ©Disney Disney revealed that the Pirates of the Caribbean Lounge will officially open its doors in late 2025. That means we probably still have another year to wait, and WE HATE THAT, but we’ll keep an eye out for more details. Learn more about this new lounge We’re excited to finally have some idea of when these new things will open in Disney World. We’ll be keeping an eye out for more big announcements, so stay tuned to DFB for more. 3 Big Reasons Disney World Crowds Could Be Higher in 2025 Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! 23. There are only a few sleeps left until 2025, which begs the question, “Are you coming to Disney World in 2025?” Magic Kingdom As we all know there a whole lot of changes coming to Disney World this next year and they can seriously impact your 2025 vacation plans for one very big reason — the crowds! So let’s have a quick chat about some of the reasons why we think that the the Disney World crowds in 2025 could be much higher than before! As we were saying, 2025 could be one of the busiest years we’ve seen in the Disney World parks in a while, and we don’t want you to get caught up in all that, so let’s break down three big reasons why we think 2025 will be quite the busy year at Disney World. Spaceship Earth crowds Epic Universe is Opening at Universal Orlando First up, Universal Orlando’s Epic Universe is going to opens its gates on May 22nd, 2025, and it’s going to be a game-changer. This massive new park will draw crowds from around the globe, with it’s 5 sure to be jaw-dropping lands like Super Nintendo World. But here’s the kicker – many of those travelers won’t just stop with Universal. ©Universal When people hear about an exciting new park like Epic Universe, they often think, “Well, if we’re heading to Florida anyway, why not make it a big family vacation and hit Disney World too?” You know how it goes – might as well check off multiple theme park bucket list items in one trip. So even though Epic Universe is technically a Universal project, we’re betting Disney World will see a ripple effect in attendance. Saying Goodbye to Fan-Favorite Rides 2025 is already shaping up to be an emotional rollercoaster (pun-intended) for Disney World fans. You’ve probably heard that some of its classic attractions are set to close their doors permanently, and you better believe people will be flocking to the parks to ride them one last time. Here’s what’s on the chopping block: DINOSAUR and It’s Tough To Be A Bug at Animal Kingdom Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island at Magic Kingdom Muppet*Vision 3D at Hollywood Studios Muppet*Vision 3D All of us Disney fans love our nostalgia, and the chance to experience these attractions one last time is likely going to draw some massive crowds. In addition to that, there are some major temporary closures happening too: Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (will be closed for over a year starting on January 6th, 2025) Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster (which is getting a Muppets re-theme) ©Disney So if you’ve been meaning to snap a selfie in front of DINOSAUR or catch the quirky Muppets 3D show, 2025 is your last chance. These “farewell tours” always bring in a wave of Disney die-hards! New Attractions and Experiences While we’re saying goodbye to some of our favorite classics, 2025 is also welcoming tons of new magic. Disney isn’t letting Epic Universe steal all the thunder. Here’s a taste of what’s coming: A new villains stage show in Hollywood Studios (Summer 2025). ©Disney The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure (Hollywood Studios Summer 2025) Zootopia: Better Zoogether! (Animal Kingdom Winter 2025) Test Track 3.0 (EPCOT reopening in 2025) Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away, a brand-new nighttime parade at Magic Kingdom (Summer 2025) ©Disney A Spaceship Earth-themed lounge in EPCOT (in 2025) A Pirates of the Caribbean Lounge in Magic Kingdom (in 2025) A new DVC lounge, McKim’s Mile House, opening at Magic Kingdom (Summer 2025) ©Disney What Does This Mean for Your Trip? Well, if you’re planning a Disney World vacation in 2025, you’ll want to keep these factors in mind. Higher crowds mean booking all your reservations early, and mentally preparing for longer wait times. On the flip side, you’ll also potentially get to experience a mix of old and new, which could make your trip really unforgettable. 24. The EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays has returned! We were in EPCOT on opening day to try out all the new food and experience everything the festival offers. 2024 EPCOT Festival of the Holidays We have FULL reviews of every booth at the festival and a round-up of the best booths and items! We had a bit of trouble getting our hands on one exclusive treat, but we were finally able to grab it recently. We are headed to the Refreshment Station in EPCOT to try out an EXCLUSIVE Annual Passholder treat for the Festival of the Holidays! The treat is called the Frostbite Frozen Slushy, and you can grab it for $6.25. It is a Fanta Blue Raspberry slushy with assorted candies. It is also served in a souvenir cup featuring the monorail! Frostbite Frozen Slushy We think the glass is really adorable, but other than that, this exclusive treat is pretty boring. It is a blue raspberry slushy with a few toppings on top. The toppings really don’t add any flavor, but they are cute. The sprinkles were really hard, which wasn’t the best texture for the slushy. Frostbite Frozen Slushy There was also some white stuff sprinkled on top that mimicked the look of snow. It didn’t melt into the slushy, giving the drink an almost frostbitten texture. We are unsure how we felt about the texture, but it does help us understand the drink’s name. Frostbite Frozen Slushy If you are looking for a fun souvenir cup or a classic blue raspberry slush, this treat could be a great option! However, if you are looking for something unique, we might suggest heading elsewhere.
