  1. It’s always a great idea to make sure you’re fully prepared before sailing with the Disney Cruise Line! Disney Magic Cruise Ship It is always our mission to bring you the latest Disney cruise tips. From dining advice to must-bring essentials, there are plenty of tidbits you should know about before setting sail. As the Disney Cruise Line often visits several countries worldwide, you should also know about the places you’re about to visit. The U.S. Department of State offers travel advisories for every foreign nation and many islands, giving insight into the general safety of every destination. If you’re cruising soon, read ahead and check out the current travel advisories for your upcoming Disney destinations! All of the following locations fall into one of four U.S. Department of State travel advisory levels. Starting with the least to most severe levels, each destination is home to a port for the Disney Cruise Line. While these travel advisory levels are current as of this writing, be sure to double-check their status on the U.S. Department of State website before your trip, as levels can shift abruptly. Level 1 — Exercise Normal Precautions Countries with a Level 1 travel advisory are considered to generally be safe. Level 1 is the lowest advisory level for safety and security risk, but keep in mind international travel is never fully without risk. ©Disney The following countries and states are all classified by the U.S. Department of State as Level 1 destinations that require normal precautions: Antigua and Barbuda Aruba Australia Barbados Bermuda Bonaire British Virgin Islands Canada Cayman Islands Curaçao Dominica Fiji Greece Grenada Ireland Malta New Zealand Norway Portugal Progreso, Yucatán state, Mexico Saint Kitts and Nevis Saint Lucia Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Singapore Sint Maarten Level 2 — Exercise Increased Caution Travelers visiting destinations with a Level 2 travel advisory should exercise increased caution. That means travelers should be aware of heightened risks to safety and security. Locations found in this level often have issues with petty and violent crime, kidnapping, civil unrest, and threats of terrorism. Cozumel Mexico ©Disney Cruise Line Level 2 travel advisory areas include the following Disney Destinations: Bahamas — Crime and shark attacks Belgium — Terrorism Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur state, Mexico — Crime Cozumel, Qunitana Roo state, Mexico — Crime France — Terrorism and civil unrest Italy — Terrorism Netherlands — Terrorism Panama — Crime and potential for civil unrest Spain — Terrorism and civil unrest Sweden — Terrorism Turkey — Terrorism and arbitrary detentions United Kingdom (England and Scotland) — Terrorism Level 3 — Reconsider Travel A Level 3 travel advisory designation indicates you should reconsider travel. While Disney takes the proper precautions to make port at safer locations, these destinations under Level 3 are susceptible to conditions that pose serious risks to safety and security. These locations include heightened risk of Level 2 potential issues and can go even further with problems like kidnapping and frequent violent crime. Storm view from aboard Disney Cruise Line The following Disney Destinations are located within the Level 3 travel advisories: Colombia — Crime, civil unrest, kidnapping, and terrorism Ensenada, Baja California state, Mexico — Crime and kidnapping Jamaica — Crime and poor health care services Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco state, Mexico — Crime and kidnapping New Caledonia — Crime and civil unrest Level 4 — Do Not Travel Locations classified with a Level 4 travel advisory are not recommended for travel. According to the U.S. Department of State, “this is the highest advisory level due to greater likelihood of life-threatening risks. During an emergency, the U.S. government may have very limited ability to provide assistance. The Department of State advises that U.S. citizens not travel to the country or to leave as soon as it is safe to do so.” The Disney Cruise line currently does not visit any locations that meet this criteria. Travel Within the United States and U.S. Territories The U.S. Department of State does not provide travel advisories for travel within the United States or its territories, but our neighbors up north have their own advisories regarding U.S. travel. ©Disney According to the Government of Canada, U.S. States (and Disney Destinations) such as Alaska, California, Texas, and Florida, as well as territories such as Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and American Samoa require normal security precautions. ©Disney As we previously mentioned, travel advisories are always subject to change so be sure to check with the U.S. Department of State before your trip and stay tuned right here at DFB for all the latest Disney Cruise Line updates! 3. Do you know what time of year it is? It’s the holiday season! It’s time for some of the BEST sweets and treats out there! If you’re visiting Disney World or Disneyland Resort in the coming weeks, you’ll be impressed with a long list of seasonal snacks, many of which are gingerbread or peppermint-flavored for the holidays. And for those heading to Disneyland, there’s one classic treat you can’t miss! The iconic Disneyland Resort candy canes are BACK! These hand-pulled candy canes are a staple of the parks each holiday season, and people line up for hours to snag them. This year, they’re available on the following dates: At Disneyland, candy canes will be available at Candy Palace & Candy Kitchen on November 29th, December 1st, 3rd, 8th, 10th, 15th, 17th, 22nd, and 24th. Candy canes will be available at California Adventure’s Trolley Treats on November 30th, December 2nd, 4th, 9th, 11th, 16th, 18th, 23rd, and 25th. Let’s go get a candy cane! When we arrived this morning at rope drop, the line was already LONG. We recommend getting here early if you want to snag a candy cane. Waiting for a candy cane These candy canes are GIANT and they cost $21.99 each. The line was wrapped around the building to pick them up, but they still seemed to be in stock a couple hours into the day — we don’t recommend waiting though, you never know when they might sell out. They’re hereeee! They’re crafted beautifully with red, green, and white swirls throughout. You’ll definitely want to keep that candy cane packaging because we doubt you’ll finish this treat all in one sitting. There’s a limit of one candy cane per guest per day. So pretty! Even though Disney had previously announced they’d be using a wristband system for distribution, we just waited in a standard standby queue. You may have a different experience if you visit on one of the other dates. We’ll make sure to keep you in the loop with any other must-have holiday treats, so stay tuned to DFB for the latest! 4. Hey there fellow Disney Millennials! We’ve gotta talk! Magic Kingdom Other generations, ya’ll can leave the room for a minute. I’ve gotta have a quick heart-to-heart. Now, that it’s just us, we’ve gotta talk about some of those trends we’ve grown up with. They’re starting to get a little…well, dated. And before you throw your churros at me, know that I’m one of you and feel the pain just like you. But there comes a time when we’ve gotta let Disney do what Disney does and that to keep things fresh, so let’s chat real quick about a couple of our millennial trends that just gotta go. As we were saying, since Disney’s all about keeping things fresh and magical, it’s about time for a few updates. Specifically, here are five of our millennial trends that Disney needs to retire ASAP! Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin Needs a Glow-Up Okay, let’s start with the space elephant in the room: Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin. We all love Buzz. He’s a classic! But this ride is giving “retro arcade” in a way that’s not quite charming anymore. The slow-moving lasers, the dated graphics, the “is my blaster even working?” frustration, let’s just say it’s just not giving the Infinity and Beyond energy it once was. Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin And then when you compare it to newer attractions like Rise of the Resistance or even Toy Story Mania for that matter, and Buzz feels more like Star Command Lite. Hey Disney! How about we dream big for our space ranger.?Maybe give him a tech overhaul? A VR element? Or maybe even replacing the ride altogether with something equally nostalgic but way more epic. Minnie and Mickey Ears Might Be Giving Us Headaches I’m sure this one’s going to hurt, but we’ve got to talk about Minnie and Mickey ears. Yes, they’re cute. And yes, we all wore them proudly for Instagram pics circa 2014. But what about now? It kinda feels like it’s mostly us Millennials who are rocking them while Gen Z is looking at us like we’ve just hit the geriatric ward. Mickey ears! Also, let’s be honest: are the ears really that comfortable? The headache by hour three says no. Plus, I don’t know about you, but they don’t always fit with our “I need to look effortless but chic” Disney park fit these days. Maybe it’s time to pass the baton to the next trend. Maybe something that lets us keep our Disney vibes without squeezing our heads into oblivion. PhilharMagic Is Nostalgic (But Maybe Too Nostalgic) Look, the 90s hits in Mickey’s PhilharMagic are timeless. There’s no argument there, but the attraction itself is giving CRT TV. The visuals, the theater effects, and the overall vibe is a bit like stepping into a Disney Channel Original Movie from our childhood. Mickey’s PhilharMagic While the nostalgia factor is strong, Disney’s known for keeping up with the times, so maybe this show could get a refresh with some modern animation or nods to newer classics like Encanto or Frozen II. We can keep the 90s magic, but how about we add a little sparkle from this century, yeah? The “Instagram Walls” Era Is Fading Raise your hand if you’ve taken a photo in front of the Purple Wall, Bubblegum Wall, or any-other-wall at Disney. I know I’m guilty as charged, but lately, that whole “Instagram wall” trend feels like it’s been losing steam (and fast). Maybe it’s because we’ve all moved on to reels and TikToks, or maybe it’s because a blank pastel wall just isn’t cutting it anymore. EPCOT’s Iconic Bubblegum Wall Now, you can’t deny that Disney’s got so many iconic backdrops we can work with like castle shots, character meet-and-greets, scenic ride moments, etc. I’m not sure that we really need to spend precious park time anymore hunting for a wall that, let’s face it, no one outside of Disney circles recognizes? It might just be time for us to let the walls fade back into…well, walls. Live-Action Remakes Are Too Much of a Good Thing Sure, the live-action remakes are fun and all, but do we need every millennial classic to get the live-action treatment? At some point, it starts to feel like they’re just mining our nostalgia instead of creating new magic. ©Disney Plus, these movies hold such a special place in our hearts because of their animation. The original Lion King is absolutely unbeatable, and while the live-action version is gorgeous, it didn’t quite hit the same. How about we give the remakes a rest and let the next generation fall in love with their own animated classics? ©Disney Look, Disney will always be the place for us Millennials. I mean, it’s where we grew up, where we make memories, and where we’ll probably drag our kids someday. But part of keeping the magic alive is knowing when to let go of trends that have run their course, and I think we’ve hit that point already. But what do you think? Let us know in the comments below. 8. It’s hard to miss the AMC Theater in Disney Springs since it’s such a big building, but did you know this isn’t just any normal AMC Theater? AMC Theater Well, it can be, but there are also theaters here that offer a unique experience that allows you to eat an actual meal (not just snacks and an Icee, although you can do that too) while watching a movie! It’s called the Dine-In Experience at the AMC Theater in Disney Springs, and while there are many of them all over the country, many guests visiting Disney World may have never seen an experience like this before. If you find yourself on a longer Disney World trip and have some time, here’s how you can experience this for yourself! There are over 20 different theaters at the AMC location in Disney Springs, and a few of them are reserved for Dine-In experiences. These are smaller theaters with 2-6-2 seating configurations with often less than half the rows a normal theater has to make this truly a more sought-after experience. AMC Theater Dine-In Lobby There are two lobby entrances at this AMC Theater — one for regular concessions and film experiences, where you can get popcorn, candy, Icees, and more, and the Dine-In lobby entrance, which is where we went for ours. When you scan your ticket and enter the lobby, you can head straight over to the kiosks to order your meal. Kiosks Before you checkout, you’ll see a message pop up that tells you your food will be brought to you if you’re in a Dine-In Theater. If you’re in a regular theatre, you can order from these kiosks as well, but a message will pop up instructing you to go over to the Dine-In Pick-Up window to the left of the kiosks and pick up your food before heading to your theater. This takes about 15-20 minutes, so you’ll want to be sure you arrive at the theater plenty early if you’d like to do this option. The Pick up window if you’re NOT in a Dine-In theater In the theater, our food took about 15-20 minutes to be brought to us. There are tons of different options on the menu, but we grabbed two of the most popular dishes. Our Chicken Quesadilla was $18.99 and was alright — it tasted different than what we expected a chicken quesadilla to taste like, so while we wouldn’t get it again, it was okay. Chicken Quesadilla We also got the Chicken Tenders for $19.49, and these were fantastic! The breading is so thick and crispy, and the chicken on the inside was fantastic as well. We love the curly fries it comes with, as well as the three different dipping sauces (ketchup, honey mustard, and ranch) and the two pieces of pretzel bread. We’d get these over and over and over again. Chicken Tenders Overall, while the food here won’t knock your socks off, you’re really coming here for the experience of dining while watching a movie on the big screen, so we certainly think it’s worth it if you’ve got a half-day in Disney World and don’t want to pay for park admission, or it’s a rainy day and you want to do something different on a longer trip. 9. Disneyland Resort is always being updated and undergoing changes, and it looks like 2025 will be no different! Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland We are already seeing planned refurbishments included on the calendar, and we want to make sure you know what will be closed soon. We want to make sure you are aware of some upcoming ride closures at Disneyland Resort! Ride closures happen frequently throughout the year, but it is always a good idea to know what will be closed during your trip to avoid disappointments. It is never fun to be really looking forward to an attraction only to find out it is closed during your trip! Disney California Adventure Grizzly River Run and Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind will both be closed beginning January 6th, 2025, in Disney California Adventure Park. That means the last day to ride these attractions before they close will be January 5th. However, we don’t know an opening date as Disney has not officially announced anything, and the current calendar only goes through January 14th. We know that both attractions will be closed through AT LEAST January 14th, as they are still listed as closed for refurbishment on that day. Grizzly River Run Additionally, the Haunted Mansion in Disneyland Park will be closed for refurbishment beginning January 7th to remove The Nightmare Before Christmas overlay. While this closure happens every year right after the holidays at Disneyland end, we want to ensure it doesn’t take you by surprise. The removal of the overlay typically takes between 10 days and 2 weeks. Currently, the calendar also shows Haunted Mansion as being closed until at least January 14th. Haunted Mansion Holiday The Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe will also join the list of temporary closures and will close on January 7th. There are quite a few closures to look out for at the beginning of next year, and we will be sure to keep you updated on the opening timelines for the attractions and Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe! Additionally, Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln will be closed for a lengthy refurbishment as it gets ready for its debut as “Walt Disney — A Magical Life” in 2025. 10. Moana 2 is officially out in the world and already breaking box office records! Moana’s new outfit inspired by the second film. We’ve already seen loads of merchandise come out inspired by this new film, and now one spot in Disney Springs has introduced a new treat to celebrate the film’s release. If you’re looking for a tropical snack to munch on while you walk around the shopping and dining district, this new cake pop is a must grab! Over at Amorette’s Patisserie in Disney Springs you’ll find a collection of delicious treats to enjoy. These are often more expensive than others around the park, but that’s because they’re made with a little more skill and often look (and taste) incredible. Amorette’s Patisserie We headed over there to try the new Moana 2 Cake Bar for $8. This is made with Passion Fruit Chiffon, Pineapple Jam, and Caramel Crispy Pearls coated in White Chocolate. We were a little worried about all those flavors at first, but we loved it! Moana 2 Cake Bar Since the pineapple jam is throughout the passion fruit chiffon cake, there are bits of actual pineapple inside the treat, making it one of the most prominent flavors. You can certainly still taste the passion fruit too, but it isn’t as prominent, so a heads up on that. We also couldn’t find any caramel crispy pearls in the treat at all, so it’s possible those were forgotten in this batch or may be left out all together. It’s beautiful! If you’re a fan of tropical flavors, we highly recommend as we found this one to be light and delicious. Our reporter typically isn’t a fan of cake pops since they often have a Play-Doh texture, but that wasn’t the case with this one! It was moist, and all the flavors paired very well, even with the blue-colored white chocolate coating on the outside. We really enjoyed this one! Our reporter also said that, being someone who often gets her kids treats when they’re out together, she’d much rather spring for this slightly more expensive one and not have to worry about the mess that comes after a melty treat like ice cream or a fruit bar. This cake bar stayed together very well, was delicious, and celebrated a character we all know and love, so it was a real win in our book. More Recent Reviews! 12. It has been a BIG year for Haunted Mansion as a ride. Haunted Mansion On the West Coast, Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion has been getting a queue overhaul and an extended refurbishment to the area around the ride. However, we’ve also seen some changes to Haunted Mansion on the East Coast! The Magic Kingdom version has had a few additions this year, and we’re here to round them up. Return of the Picnic Ghost First of all, we noticed in August of this year that a ghost had returned to the graveyard scene of the ride! The picnic ghost was back, and ready to feast on whatever it is that ghosts eat. (Air? Souls? Anybody know for sure?) Picnic ghost His setup was complete with checkered tablecloth and candelabra. It looks like he’s on a date! But in fact, he was still missing something at first… Return of the Lady Picnic Ghost …he was missing his lady friend! For a few weeks, the top hat-topped ghost sat alone at the table, waiting for his date to show up. Thankfully, in September, she arrived! Reunited The female ghost dining at the table is wearing a frilly dress and a matching bonnet. It looks like they’re enjoying some delightful conversation with delightful company. We’re so glad that they’re reunited! The Floating Candelabra is Back At the beginning of the year, we noticed that the floating candelabra had disappeared from the endless hallway scene of the ride. For weeks on weeks, we stopped by to see if it would return. And finally, it came back in May! It’s returned… The spooky candelabra just really adds to the suspense of the endless hallway — who’s holding it? Are they coming for you? The Hitchhiking Ghost Debacle Later in the year, we had an interesting debacle with the hitchhiking ghosts at the end of the ride. For a few days, the interactive ghost effect wasn’t working properly, and the three ghosts were just sitting on top of or standing next to the doom buggies. What’s going on? A lot brighter and more vibrant Well, it turns out that this is the ride’s B-mode, AKA the effect that’s used when there’s a problem with the original. Apparently, the regular interactive hitchhiking ghosts weren’t working correctly, so these were stepping up to fill their place. If you happen to see this effect used in the future, don’t worry — it’s likely just temporary! Bonus: The Hatbox Ghost And of course, we have to mention the addition of the Hatbox Ghost! Even though this animatronic was added at the end of 2023, lots of people were seeing it for the first time in 2024. Hatbox Ghost in Disney World The animatronic already had a home in the Disneyland version of the ride, but it was added to Magic Kingdom’s ride after the release of the Haunted Mansion movie. So there you have it — all the changes we’ve seen to Haunted Mansion in Disney World recently! Stay tuned to DFB for all the ride updates. Click Here to Learn More About the Hatbox Ghost! 13. It’s no secret that a LOT changed in Disney World after 2020. After the resort’s historic closure due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, it reopened, although not EVERYTHING reopened with it. Restaurant Marrakesh Here’s the thing: although it took some restaurants YEARS to return, most of the restaurants throughout Disney World have come back in some way or another. We’ve even had some new restaurants pop up at the parks, the hotels, and in Disney Springs. But, believe it or not, almost FIVE YEARS after the reopening, there are still some Disney World restaurants that have not yet reopened — and we’re starting to think they’re closed forever. Restaurant Marrakesh Okay, we’re heading over to EPCOT to visit what used to be Restaurant Marrakesh in the Morocco Pavilion. The building is still there. There’s still a sign ON the building that says Restaurant Marrakesh, but instead of a restaurant, you’ll usually find this as a lounge and a Kidcot station. Gone are the delicious Moroccan-inspired appetizers and dishes, along with the belly dancers and live musicians. Now, it’s just…well, it’s a place to relax in the air conditioning. That is just INSULTING. Florida Blue Lounge inside Restaurant Marrakesh Interestingly enough, if you visit the restaurant’s page on the Disney World website, it’s only listed as “Temporarily Unavailable.” But…um…correct us if we’re wrong, but it’s been almost five years and that seems a lot longer than the word “temporarily” implies. Y’all…let’s face it. We’re never getting this restaurant back. Remembering Restaurant Marrakesh We loved this location because it was usually pretty easy to get a table even if you just walked up on the day of. The food was great. The entertainment was lively. It was always one of our favorite underrated dining spots in EPCOT. Why Doesn’t Disney Use These Abandoned Parts of EPCOT as Restaurants? Garden View Tea Room Before 2020, you could have afternoon tea at the Grand Floridian Garden View Tea Room — and it was quite the experience! You could choose between two experience: the Afternoon Tea and the Perfectly Princess Tea Party. Yes, there was a Princess-themed tea party, and yes, we’re mad this is no longer available. Was it pricey? Yes. Was it worth it? Considering everything that came with it (a princess doll, princess jewelry, a scrapbook set, a cinch bag, a rose, and more), it was SPECIAL. Grand Floridan Tea Offerings However, you could get a standard afternoon tea service for as little as $50 per person and that included a pot of tea of your choice, tea sandwiches, a scone with accompaniments, and your choice of dessert. There were also two other pricier options, with the most expensive being $150 (but it’s meant to be shared between two people). Tea Meal Selections Now, we’ve watched almost all of the restaurants reopen at the Grand Floridian, but this one still remains stubbornly closed. We have seen the room used for a lounge occasionally (again, with the LOUNGES, Disney), but it’s never reopened as a tea room. In 2023 the room opened back up, but not for tea Now we’re almost 99.9% sure this may never reopen, especially now that The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers has opened and is offering an (albeit pricier) afternoon tea service. Maybe Disney has plans for the space beyond it being a lounge, but nothing’s been said yet, so we’ll just mourn the loss of what was once a more affordable tea service. Oh, well, it was nice while it lasted… Is the $95 Cake Bake Shop Afternoon Tea in Disney World Worth It? Let’s Find Out! Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! 15. Disney just announced A LOT of news! EPCOT We got more information about the opening timeline for Test Track and the new Pirates of the Caribbean tavern, AND we now have an opening timeline for the new Spaceship Earth Lounge in EPCOT! This new Spaceship Earth Lounge was announced at the 2024 D23 Expo. While we knew it would open in 2025, we now have a more exact opening timeline. The Spaceship Earth Lounge will be welcoming guests starting in late spring 2025. We can’t wait to step inside and see what this new space offers! Spaceship Earth Lounge ©Disney The lounge will boast fantastic views of the World Celebration gardens and a “unique perspective of the nightly fireworks.” There will be “delicious culinary creations” to enjoy inside the “extraordinary, intimate setting.” The decor inside this lounge draws inspiration from Spaceship Earth’s unique geometric sphere and hopes to offer guests a “zen space” filled with “rich textures and warm metallic tones, giving it a mysterious and elegant intimacy.” EPCOT When it opens in late spring 2025, it will honor “the intertwined history of Spaceship Earth and EPCOT itself.” Of course, you can count on us to bring you full coverage of this brand-new lounge! 16. Test Track is coming back… but not as soon as we thought. ©Disney EPCOT’s Test Track has been closed for a massive refurbishment since the middle of 2024, with only an ambiguous “2025” noted as its reopening date. That is, until Disney confirmed a new reopening timeline for the iconic thrill ride today, December 3rd. However, EPCOT aficionados may not be happy to read it. Disney has now confirmed that Test Track will reopen in “Late Summer 2025”, meaning that the large people-eating attraction will still be unavailable for a while to EPCOT guests. Once Test Track does reopen, it will mark the third version of the well-regarded E-Ticket. The first version of the ride, focusing on a “realistic” automobile proving ground debuted to much fanfare – – and many delays – – in 1998, before closing for refurbishment in 2012. The second iteration of the ride, often referred to colloquially as Test Track 2.0, opened at the tail end of that same year with a tweaked storyline that revolved around guests “designing” and testing their own SimCar. Test Track construction November 26th, 2024 While not much is confirmed about the upcoming Test Track 3.0, Disney has said the next iteration of the attraction will feature a “new storyline” built around “a joy ride through scenes focusing on onboard technology, customization and personalization. Followed by a trip through a scenic outdoor route reminding us all of the joys of driving, taking in the world around us and spending quality time with friends and family.” ©Disney In addition, the company has teased that the new version of the attraction will feature easter eggs and references to World of Motion, the original opening day EPCOT attraction that once stood where Test Track does now. World of Motion ©Disney As officially confirmed by Disney’s latest construction timeline, the newly refurbished Test Track is scheduled to open at EPCOT in late summer 2025. Though you may want to keep an eye out, as Disney also says that “you might even see cars returning to the track (for testing…at Test Track…nice) with their new look early in the year!” Stay tuned to DFB for more on the ride’s return. 17. The time has come! DinoLand, U.S.A. Disney has shared that DinoLand, U.S.A. will be closing for good in Animal Kingdom to make room for the new Tropical Americas Land — Pueblo Esperanza. The first round of closures was announced for January 12, 2025, including TriceraTop Spin, Fossil Fun Games, and Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures. When Disney first confirmed that DinoLand would be closing, they shared that there was still time to “get that dino” on Dinosaur, but we didn’t know just how much time that meant. Well, now we have a clue. Disney has officially announced that “2025 is your year to visit before it goes extinct!” So, if you want to ride Dinosaur at least one more time before it’s gone for good, make sure you plan a trip to Animal Kingdom in the coming year, 2025. “Get that dino!” The ride takes you on a wild chase back in time to find the Iguanadon the paleontologists are looking for, but you get caught in the meteor shower that made dinosaurs extinct! 18. If there’s one thing that we love here at DFB, it’s a new Disney World restaurant! Magic Kingdom We get SO hyped any time that Disney announces a new place to dine in the parks or resorts, and coming in 2025, we’ve got a few new spots to add to that list. One of those places is a lounge coming to Magic Kingdom, and we just got more information about when it’s opening! It was announced a while back that a pirate-themed lounge would be coming to Magic Kingdom, and we’ve been keeping an eye out for any additional details and all the construction changes since. But now, Disney has announced that it will open in late 2025. An all-new lounge themed to Pirates of the Caribbean will open at Magic Kingdom in 2025. ©Disney The Pirates of the Caribbean-themed space will welcome guests of all ages with a variety of food and beverage options. Disney has also teased that there will be some “magical surprises” in store — we can’t wait to see what those are! ©Disney We’ve been watching construction closely during our visits to Magic Kingdom. It seems that Disney is transforming some space at the exit of Pirates of the Caribbean, where The Pirates League and part of Plaza del Sol Caribe Bazaar used to be. That gift shop has been shifted around slightly to make room for the changes. Progress is being made! We can’t wait to learn more about the menu and the theming of this spot before it opens — it sounds like it’s going to be a fun place to dine! 19. Okay, hear us out: Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort is SO underrated. It’s one of the cheapest hotels on Disney World property, and the theming is generally ON POINT. Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort Sure, it’s not like you’re staying at the Grand Floridian, but it’s comfortable enough if if you plan to mostly just sleep in your room and spend most of your time in the parks. Plus you get transportation (although it is JUST buses) to the Disney Parks, Early Theme Park Entry, and you get to stay within the “Disney bubble.” However, as a value resort, we still think there are some things at All-Star Movies that just haven’t aged well. Need help figuring out all the ins and outs of planning a Disney World vacation. Let our travel partner, Small World Vacations do all the hard work for you. They’ll find you the best deals, help you book the entire thing, and keep you updated throughout the whole process. Even better? It’s perfectly free! So, as we said, some things at All-Star Movies just don’t hold up anymore. So let’s get to the nitty gritty. Herbie There’s an entire section of All-Star Movies dedicated to Herbie, aka The Love Bug. Now, here’s the thing. There hasn’t been a Herbie movie made since 2005, although it WAS iconic because it starred Lindsey Lohan. But if you asked kids these days who Herbie is, they probably would have ZERO clue. Kids have no idea who this is. Unless Disney plans on making a new Herbie movie (which is highly doubtful), this section could do with a makeover. We’re thinking Wreck-It Ralph (because you could totally just put Vanellope’s car in there, right?). Why You Should Be Careful Staying at These Disney World Hotels in 2025 Fantasia 2000 Okay, the original Fantasia that premiered in 1941 is ICONIC, if only for the Sorcerer Mickey segment of the movie. So we can imagine EVERYONE loves the nods to that part of the movie in the Fantasia section at All-Star Movies. However, it’s obvious Disney expected Fantasia 2000 to be just as iconic because they’ve also included features from that film, including this guy… He scares us! THIS GUY IS TERRIFYING. The thing is that many people have no idea he’s from Fantasia 2000 because they haven’t seen that film. Disney should change out the Fantasia 2000 theming and just add in more details from the original movie (give us the dancing hippo!). If Disney wants to keep with the scary theme the Jack-In-The-Box provides, Cherabog is always a good option. Disney Announces 2 New Hotel Additions for 2025 Mighty Ducks The Mighty Ducks were super popular back in the 90s, but today? Not so much. Is this another movie kids haven’t even seen? We also feel like Disney missed the mark with theming an entire section around that movie, too, because this would have gone over much better at Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort. Mighty Ducks theming So what should replace it? Well, Disney has a virtual archive of movies to choose from. Give us some Hercules theming (okay, that might be wishful thinking) or maybe even add a section devoted to A Goofy Movie. Aladdin could also make for a fun addition — we have IDEAS. 7 SECRET (and FREE!) Disney World Hotel Upgrades The buses are SO far away If you’ve ever stayed at an All-Star Resort, you’ve made that impossibly long trek at the end of the night from the park entrance to where the All-Star buses drop off and pick up visitors. Those bus stops are the FURTHEST away from the parks! We get it…you have to pay for the convenience of a deluxe hotel to get a bus stop closer to the park entrance, but still, we’re getting older, that walk at the end of the night is NOT FUN. The value resort bus stops are the furthest away We honestly don’t expect Disney to fix this because it’s been like this FOREVER, but it’s still something we HATE about staying at the value resorts. The PROS And CONS Of Staying At Disney World’s Value Resorts The food court is basic So Disney has done this thing where it’s homogenized all the value resort food courts, and now their menus are all the same. It’s SO boring and it’s ridiculous that these food courts don’t have much food themed to that resort, although the Food Court has a cool name: World Premiere Food Court. Really, Disney doesn’t even have to change the menu: just give the food movie names and SOME kind of theming. World Premiere Food Court We get it — Disney doesn’t prioritize the menus at the value resorts, but we think it should. And no, we’re not just looking for a cupcake with popcorn plopped on top to represent movies. We need MORE, Disney. The Essential Rule You Need To Know Before You Stay at Disney World’s Value Hotels We’ll admit that All-Star Movies is still our favorite All-Star Resort and if Disney would address some of these issues, it could become our favorite value resort. The value resorts are overdue for a little TLC (although the rooms were updated fairly recently) and we’d love to see Disney put more thought into them. 50 Amazing Things You Never Knew Were in Disney World Hotels Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! 21. Disney’s about to make some significant changes to Hollywood Studios! Disney’s Hollywood Studios A new Villains stage show that’s replacing Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy, a new version of The Little Mermaid stage show in Animation Courtyard, and of course, the brand-new Monsters, Inc.-inspired land that’s taking over Muppets Courtyard are all on the calendar. But what about the updates to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster? We foresee a bit of a problem there! In case you missed it, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster in its current form will be closing and then reopening with a new ride theme — the Muppets! That’s right, they’re moving from Grand Avenue across the park to Sunset Boulevard, and they’ll be rocking out on the new version of the ride with some of “music’s biggest stars.” ©Disney We can’t wait to see what this ride retheme will be like when it opens, but before that happens, we’ll have to endure Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster being closed AGAIN. The ride has already been through a few lengthy refurbishments in recent years, and based on those closures, we think there’s going to be a problem with it closing again. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is a pretty popular ride, with wait times often settled around an hour at any point in the day. Because of this, the ride is absorbing a fair number of people from out in the park — meaning that if those people are in line for the coaster, they’re not in line for other attractions, crowding the walkways, filling the gift shops, or taking up space in the restaurants. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster So whenever a ride is closed, all the people who would’ve been in line for that ride end up in other spots around the park. It typically increases wait times for the other attractions around the park and can make the park walkways feel a little bit more crowded in general. Sunset Boulevard The problem with the crowds may be extra strong as well, considering Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy is currently closed to make way for a new Disney Villains stage show — so if Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster closes before the new show opens this summer, there will be pretty much no reason to go back to that section of the park. ©Disney And adding on to the subject of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster’s popularity, having the ride closed for an extended amount of time means that purchasing Lightning Lane Premier Pass or Multi Pass for Hollywood Studios loses some of its value. You’ll get access to one fewer attraction and the other Lightning Lanes will be a smidge harder to book when using Multi Pass just because there are less options overall. Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster Lightning Lane So ultimately, there are some issues with closing this coaster for an extended period of time, especially without something new to open in its place. We’ll be interested to learn more about its closure in the future, so stay tuned to DFB for all the details as they’re released. Click Here to Learn More About the Changes Coming to the Ride! 25. Tis the season for lots and lots of holiday treats! Once Upon a Toy The past several weeks, we’ve been trying dozens of seasonal snacks in Disney World, from offerings at the hotels to party-exclusive snacks to Festival of the Holidays menu items. And now, we’re taking you to Disney Springs to check out one of their limited-time options! Marketplace Snacks is located in the Marketplace area of Disney Springs, and they’re known for serving up delicious and creative waffle sundaes. Ice cream lovers rejoice! Marketplace Snacks For the holiday season, they’ve got a new waffle on the menu inspired by Frozen! Say hello to the Sven Reindeer Food Waffle Sundae. It’s $9.49 and made with vanilla and chocolate soft serve, white and dark chocolate covered pretzels, mini M&Ms, cinnamon cereal, marshmallow sauce, and a white chocolate coin. New waffle! When the waffle comes out, it is absolutely LOADED in toppings. We happened to stop by when they were making a fresh batch of waffles, so they were quite warm and it caused the ice cream to melt SO fast. The chocolate ice cream wasn’t quite as creamy as the vanilla part of the swirl, and it melted a bit faster, making a pretty messy snack. There she is! The toppings on this are really fun and definitely reminded us of reindeer food like you’d make at home, but in execution, they don’t work super well. The M&Ms melted quickly like the ice cream did, and with everything turning into one big soup, you even lost some of the crispy and crunchy elements because they got soggy fast. Ultimately, the flavors were fairly good, but you’d definitely need to order this at a time when the ice cream machine is pumping out high quality soft serve and the waffles aren’t super hot. A scoop And with all that soupy mess, the marshmallow sauce gets really lost amongst the other flavors. There didn’t seem to be very much of it. Great idea with the flavors here, but not exactly 100% on the execution.
