Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Since 1977, fans of the Star Wars franchise have spent millions of dollars on movies, streaming subscriptions to watch new Star Wars TV shows, Star Wars Celebration, and visiting Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in both Disney World and Disneyland. However, we just recently attended a VERY special Star Wars event that you might not even know about, and it’s all about lighting up the night with lightsabers. So ever once in a while, an unofficial group of Star Wars fans get together to plan a massive lightsaber meetup in Batuu East, aka Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Fans organize via Discord and social media for these events, which include lightsabers, some cosplay, and Star Wars Disneybounds. These groups coordinate with Disney in advance to bring these lightsaber meet-ups to life. We got to attend one of these lightsaber meetups recently, and it was AMAZING. Lightsaber Meetup The best part is that although this is an unofficial event, Disney brings out some characters (we got to see a First Order Officer and Stormtroopers) for a little show during the meetup. Characters from Galaxy’s Edge These characters came out and interacted with Star Wars fans who showed up for the meetup, which is basically about bringing Star Wars fans together for a fun and safe environment to show off their lightsabers and talk about Star Wars with other fans. Lightsaber meetup It was honestly so nice to see such a positive and nice group of people showing up in Hollywood Studios who have been brought together by one thing: a love of all things Star Wars.
