Lies About Disney’s Hollywood Studios You Thought Were True

Recommended Posts

Hooray for Hollywood…Studios! Okay, so Hollywood Studios is a super fun park and we’ll admit that we sometimes prefer it over the other parks in Disney World.

Hollywood Studios

There’s just something special that happens when you step into Hollywood Studios and find yourself in old Hollywood with a very questionable hotel in the background (we hear the elevator keeps having problems), seeing a replica of Grauman’s Chinese Theatre right in front of you, complete with hand prints and autographs of some pretty famous people right in front. Then you can step INTO the movies, like Toy Story and Star Wars. However, there are some outright lies we keep hearing people tell about Hollywood Studios, and we’re about to bust those wide open!

So here are the lies we always hear about Hollywood Studios.

It’s a half-day park

Okay, so maybe in the 1990s, you would have considered Hollywood Studios a half-day park. However, there is SO much to do there now that you absolutely need at least a full day to enjoy it if you are a Disney adult or traveling with older kids. Us Star Wars fans can literally spend a whole day in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge just taking in the details and playing some of the interactive games available in that land.

Then there’s Toy Story Land, which has some amazing entertainment (we’ll never NOT stop for the Green Army Drum Corps.), as well as some of our favorite Toy Story characters. Add those two lands to everything else going on in Hollywood Studios, and you’ve got MORE than enough to fill a day — or two — in Disney World. We will say though, if you are traveling with younger toddlers, there are very few attractions for them in Hollywood Studios.

There’s nothing for kids

It’s true that in the past, there weren’t a lot of attractions and experiences for kids in Hollywood Studios, but right now, there are TONS of things for older kids to do. Not only can they enjoy a breakfast at Hollywood & Vine with Disney Junior characters, but they can also enjoy Toy Story Land, which even has a great attraction, Alien Swirling Saucers, that’s perfect for the little ones.

Then there’s a Frozen Sing-Along, a musical retelling of Beauty and the Beast, Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, and Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy. Plus kids are sure to love the new Monsters, Inc. land that’s coming to the park soon! We do miss the playground that used to be here because it was such a great place for the little to get out their energy.

There are no good places to eat

Excuse us…what? As the Disney FOOD blog, we are the first to say THIS IS SUCH A LIE. Hollywood Studios has some of our favorite dining experiences. For example, where else can you eat at a 1950s style diner where you’ll get a serious talking to if you put your elbows on the table (yes, we love 50s Prime Time Cafe)? Not to mention, that diner has some of the best fried chicken we’ve ever had. We’re also HUGE fans of the Hollywood Brown Derby, which we STILL think is a super underrated Disney World restaurant.

Hollywood Brown Derby is seriously underrated

Then there’s Baseline Taphouse with some incredible snacks and draft beers on tap. Plus…hello… TOTCHOS from Woody’s Lunch Box is one of our absolute favorite lunches. We also will tell you to not sleep on ABC Commissary because this quick service spot went from zero to hero when it introduced a new menu in 2020. One of our all-time favorite snacks, the Carrot Cake Cookie, can be found at Trolley Car Cafe. Don’t ever tell us Hollywood Studios doesn’t have good food.

We Found a BIG Clue About a NEW Restaurant Coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios

“Andy’s coming”

This myth has been going around for a while, but basically, it’s the idea that if you say “Andy’s coming!” around any of the Toy Story characters, they HAVE to drop to the ground and pretend to be inanimate toys. We don’t think this was ever true…but there IS an exception.

Woody and Jessie

Okay, so if you happen to dine at Roundup Rodeo BBQ, you will hear the words “Andy’s coming!” on the speaker. Guests are encouraged to freeze in position (and you’ll see Cast Members doing it, too), so Disney sort of made this myth into a reality…but it still doesn’t involve the actual characters.

Disney Is Making a Viral and Controversial Trend Reality

You should skip Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge unless you’re a Star Wars fan

So, yes, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge was absolutely made with a ton of Easter eggs and details that only Star Wars fans might get, but at the same time, it’s immersive enough that even those who have never seen a Star Wars movie can enjoy it. It’s got that whole “planet in a galaxy far, far away” vibe that even those not well-versed in Star Wars can enjoy, not to mention some rides that are just fun even if you can’t pick out every single Star Wars reference.

ANYONE can enjoy Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

There’s also this. Remember how we talked about good food in Hollywood Studios? Ronto Wraps from Ronto Roasters in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge are for EVERYONE, and you don’t have to love Star Wars to enjoy that snack. Then there’s the Cold Brew Black Caf that coffee drinkers can enjoy. Plus we love the popcorn mixes at Kat Saka’s Kettle.

The Secret Proof That Disney’s NEW Monsters Inc. Land Has Been in Development for YEARS

So the next time you visit Hollywood Studios, remember that some things you’ve been told about the park are absolutely wrong. So enjoy yourself, have fun, and we’ll see you soon in Hollywood…Studios, that is.
