Disney made TONS of exciting announcements for Disney World at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, and we’re still not over them.

A new Villains Land, new Cars rides, and a new nighttime parade are all headed to Magic Kingdom. But Disney’s Hollywood Studios also got some exciting news; a new Monsters, Inc. land is coming to the park! While we don’t know everything about this new land such as what it will all include and where exactly in Hollywood Studios it’s going, we do know there will be one roller coaster that we’ve been waiting 23 years to ride. However, there is one thing fans are worried about when it comes to the new thrill ride.

Disney shared that the monsters are inviting us humans to Monstropolis to enjoy some fun and help them power their city with our laughs. We can’t wait to step foot into Monstropolis, and hopefully, code 2319 is gone for good!

There is one area of the city that we are particularly excited to visit, and that is the Monsters, Inc. Laugh Factory. Disney shared concept art and a scale model of the new roller coaster which Josh D’Amaro, Disney Experiences Chairman, explained, “The first time I saw Monsters, Inc., all I wanted to do was ride on one of those doors like Mike and Sulley.” Same! “You’ll go into the factory and experience the first suspended coaster ever in a Disney park. Remember in the movie how those claws grab the doors and hoist them up into the air to take them away? We’re doing that, too. And you’re going along for the ride.”

But here’s the problem: we wonder if those doors will be real, physical doors, or just a bunch of screens. We asked our readers on Instagram if they would be ok with screens on this new roller coaster, and 60% of respondents shared that they do NOT want screens on this new roller coaster.

If you look closely at the concept art, though, it does kind of look like screens of doors along the sides of the ride instead of individual doors.

To be fair, it would require A LOT of doors to fill the entire side of the roller coaster, and if you look at the other side of the concept art, it looks like there may be some physical doors on the ride zooming past us as we go by.

Screens may be easier in some ways and may even create a better experience. If you think about a few other rides in Disney World that use screens, the screens make the experience WAY more exciting. For example, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is an amazing roller coaster that uses screens to a big advantage.

Another ride that uses screens effectively is Toy Story Mania. The screens add to the effects and enjoyment of the ride. Compared to Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin using physical targets, Toy Story Mania is a much better experience with the screens.

However, some may say that screens have detracted from Tiana’s Bayou Adventure compared to all the animatronics and physical decor on the old Splash Mountain.

Screens may make or break a ride depending on how they are used and the style of the ride. So we’ll have to just wait and see what comes to be on the new Monsters, Inc. ride in Hollywood Studios!
