Disney4me
All of us on the DFB team LOVE the Halloween season at Disney World. Pumpkins have taken over Main Street U.S.A.! Everything is so spooky and fun, and there are adorable orange pumpkins everywhere on Main Street, U.S.A. But another reason we love this season is all the super cool limited-time snacks you can get while you’re visiting. This time, however, we decided to try something different and MAKE our own Halloween snack at Disney World. The best part? You can make it, too! In the spirit of spooky season, we decided to turn into mad scientists, but instead of creating a monster, we’re creating a monstrously delicious snack! So we set off to our lab for the day: the Main Street Confectionery. Main Street Confectionery At the Main Street Confectionery, you can find lots of delicious sweets you can take on the go, such as candy apples, cookies, cereal treats, and much more! The best part about this shop is the irresistible aroma of delicious treats that wafts through the air and can even be smelled outside the door. If only we had a Smell-O-Vision to fully capture and share this delightful experience. Sigh. Maybe someday! Halloween treats The Confectionary is also home to the Kernel Kitchen, where you can purchase unique popcorn mixes or create your own, with tons of toppings and flavors to choose from. This is where we’re headed to put our mad-foodie-scientist brains to work. MWAHAHAHA. Kernel Kitchen Our goal on this day was to make the most spooktacular, horrifyingly delicious popcorn mix perfect for the Halloween season, and thankfully, there were tons of fun ingredients to work with. First up, we chose the newest orange and purple kettle popcorn, which is grape and orangesicle flavored. The orange and purple colors truly give this mix the Halloween vibes we need. Orange and purple kettle popcorn Next up is our favorite part: the toppings! With so many drizzles and candies to choose from, it was a hard choice, but we narrowed it down to the mix-ins that reminded us most of the season. So our choices were sour gummy worms, Halloween M&Ms, Oreo crumbles, freeze-dried Skittles, and dark chocolate drizzle. Yummmmm This confectionary concoction is heavily inspired by our favorite comfort snack, worms and dirt, and includes our favorite Halloween candies. The fun and vibrant colors of the mix pay tribute to the current trend of bright retro Halloween decorations, and it really makes us feel nostalgic (as well as hungry!). But looks are not all that matter when it comes to a treat; taste is just as important! Let’s try this out So, is our invention a winner or a total disaster? Well, with the combination of mix-ins, this popcorn mix definitely has a lot of interesting flavors! The dark chocolate surprisingly works well with all of the ingredients, bringing them together. Although we didn’t taste a lot of the grape and orangesicle flavor of the popcorn coming through, we didn’t mind because of all the flavors from the different candies and drizzles. SPOOKY POPCORN ALERT! Ok, we made this one at the Confectionery in Magic Kingdom! We have orange and purple popcorn with gummy worms, Halloween M&Ms, Oreo crumbles, freeze dried skittles, and dark chocolate drizzle! It cost $13.99 and is shareable! pic.twitter.com/jhZTpPEBS3 — Disney Food Blog (@DisneyFoodBlog) September 11, 2024 This could be a great mix for a group to share as it kind of has something for everyone: chewy and fruity gummies, crispy and fruit freeze-dried Skittles, chocolatey M&Ms, and kettle corn. And you can dip whatever you want in the chocolate drizzle. The Oreo crumbles taste spectacularly delicious on the popcorn! It’s truly a mix fit for a Halloween dream (or nightmare? Nah, this is TOO good, definitely a dream!). All great inventions need a great name, so for this treat, we’re gonna go with the DFB Monster Mash-Up! Trick or treat yourself with this mix that you can make at the Kernel Kitchen. Just remember that this is not an official popcorn mix, so you do have to order this by listing out each ingredient. Think of it like ordering from the Starbucks Secret Menu!
