Why This Hollywood Studios Single Rider Line Is a Blessing and a Curse

Recommended Posts

Single rider lines in Disney World are a fantastic way to skip a (usually) long standby line.

Single Rider lines can save you the wait!

There’s a caveat, though — you have to be willing to be split up from your party because, as the name suggests, there’s only one person needed to fill in the empty seat in the ride vehicle. Not every ride has a single-rider line either (although we would love to see more in the parks), and while we appreciate the ones we have, there’s one particular single-rider line that can be both a blessing and a curse at the same time.

To start off, we feel we need to list all the rides with single-rider lines in each of the parks:

  • Expedition Everest (Animal Kingdom)
  • Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster (Hollywood Studios)
  • Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run (Hollywood Studios)
  • Soarin’ (EPCOT; only sometimes!)
  • Rise of the Resistance (Hollywood Studios; being tested periodically)

We were really excited to see a single-rider option for Millennium Falcon offered right off the bat when the ride opened, and we’ve used it many, many times since. It’s rare to see a long wait for single riders — in fact, we’ve had more times where we walk right up and only wait a few minutes until we’re boarding!

So why do so many families and groups of friends choose to wait in that long standby line or purchase Lightning Lane Multi Pass and book a return time? Well, for one, this ride is REALLY fun to do with your group since you’re all working together to complete the mission, and what you do really affects your outcome! If you hop in the single rider line, you’ll be placed with a group of strangers. It doesn’t take away from the fun, but it’s just a different experience.

Millennium Falcon Single Rider Line

One of the biggest draws of this ride is getting to pilot the Millennium Falcon — almost every Star Wars fan’s dream. When the Cast Members assign who is doing each job on the ship, they assign it front to back, which goes 2 Pilots, 2 Gunners, and 2 Engineers. This means that since Single Riders are typically put in last, you’ll almost always be an Engineer.

Inside the Millennium Falcon!

There’s nothing wrong with being an Engineer, especially if you’re not a huge Star Wars fan, or you’d rather watch the chaos unfold in front of you, being an Engineer may be perfect. However, suppose it’s been your dream to pilot the Millennium Falcon or at least be a Gunner. In that case, you’ll likely be very unhappy with the single-rider line, and it’ll be more worth waiting in the regular queue or booking that Lighting Lane Multi Pass return time.

It’s always possible that other members of the group you’re put with will want to switch with you, and you’ll get to be one of the other positions (which is allowed!), but if we’re being honest, that’s pretty rare. Now, since the single-rider line usually doesn’t take any time at all, you can just get in line over and over again in the hopes that you’ll eventually get to be a Pilot or Gunner if you’re really against waiting in line or don’t want to spend any more money, but it may take a little while!
