Recommended Posts

Yes, we’re eating our way around Disney World…again. And with today’s adventure came an unexpected change of “course”!

The food spread of doom

While poking around at the latest menu updates around Disney World’s restaurants, we stumbled across an interesting find that not only piqued our interest but set off our sense of adventure at the same time! Hang on to your hats because we’re taking a trip to Jock Lindsey’s Hanger Bar to try out their new eats.

click-here

Jock Lindsey’s Hanger Bar is a lounge style restaurant tucked away into the corner of the Landing at Disney Springs. This seems fitting because if you’re scratching your head and asking “Who’s Jock?” well, he’s the trusty pilot and good friend of someone you may be more familiar with, Indiana Jones.

Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar

While it’s anything but sleepy, this spot has made quite the name for itself thanks to its appropriately punny named drinks and tapas-style light bites. They’ve recently made a few changes to their menu offerings here, so we knew what we had to do!

Atmosphere

At face value, Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar might just look like a cool airplane hanger style bar and lounge, but it’s so much more to that when you dive into the restaurant’s backstory! For those who aren’t as well versed about Jock Lindsey and his travels (read that as trials and tribulations) alongside Indiana Jones, allow us to fill in a few gaps for you. You see, Jock found this waterfront hangout while searching for the Fountain of Youth with Dr. Jones himself!

Welcome!

Additionally, if you know anything about Indiana Jones you’re probably familiar with how much he hates snakes, so it may seem like an odd pairing of the two when you realize that Jock’s pet is actually a snake named Reggie — more on that later! The outside looks like the beginnings of what you might expect to see out of a rounded metal airplane hanger that admittedly, probably has gotten a bit rusty with age!

Just look for the sign

You can already spot some fun details like an airplane propeller…

…and a few dirty glass panels where you would expect to see a plane housed.

As you step inside, you’ll be treated to uniquely themed decor that tells tales of the travels that Jock and Indiana Jones have blazed together!

There’s a large bar with seating to the right-hand side…

…while over toward the middle and the left you’ll have seating options between small tables and chairs…

…a few booths (appropriately made of out old airplane materials)…

…and a couple of hightop tables, if you prefer!

In the back right-hand corner is an old Dive Bell, and it’s one of the most sought-after spots in this joint. At busier times you’ll wait to be seated and texted when your table is ready, but since we were coming in so early, we had the chance to choose where we wanted to be seated and that was where we bee-lined for!

When you’re visiting, spend some time looking around, you might just spot a few notable artifacts from the films!

Look all around you

Seriously this place is so dense with details you could spend hours pouring over all of the decor, spotting even the tiniest references, and reading through the artwork and framed notes.

Menu

Alright, we’re getting on a tangent here, but it’s time to focus! We’re here to eat and check out the new bites in this place. Several new appetizers had just hit this restaurant’s menu but the front side outlines their signature libations…

Drinks!

…while the back is where you can find their light bites, draft beers, hard ciders, and wines.

Eats!

And of course, you can always ask your server about recommendations based on your preferences if you’re unsure of what to order. It’s like being able to fly a plane blindfolded!

Drinks

We opted to try out the Shorty’s Singapore Sling for starters! It’s made of Plymouth Gin, Heering Cherry Liqueur, Bénédictine, Cointreau, fresh lime juice, pineapple juice, and grenadine for $16.

Shorty’s Singapore Sling

This drink was bubbly, and you could definitely tell the grenadine was there! You’re immediately hit with the cherry flavor. You’ll get the hints of the lime and pineapple juice to follow but that cherry liqueur is the commanding presence in this drink. If you’re not a fan of stronger drinks, this one might not be the best for you because we thought it tasted like a liquified version of a cough drop with a little fizz.

Eats

We hope you packed your appetite because we’re really gonna need your help getting through everything we ordered for this meal! We ended up ordering the Snakebite Bao Buns, Air Tours Bacon and Waffles, Mine Car Meatballs, and the Shrimp Fried Rice Bites…whew that was a huge undertaking!

2024-wdw-disney-springs-ds-the-landing-j

Our whole order

The Mine Car Meatballs were the first to arrive! This dish is made of pork and beef meatballs, sweet-and-sour BBQ, and chimichurri on potato hay and will cost you $13. You can also substitute the pork and beef meatballs for Impossible meatballs if you prefer! They’re served to you on a litteral mine car and we cackled with laughter when we saw it.

Mine Car Meatballs

This dish was interesting because the meatballs are rolled in the sweet-and-sour BBQ sauce. Now if your mind relates meatballs to marinara sauce, your taste buds are met with instant alert when you get those sweeter BBQ notes. They’re savory and soft but a little juicy once you get past the sauce and break into the inside.

Inside the meatball

And there’s an added crunch from those potato sticks. You’ll really have to get a good amount of chimichurri to taste it and it’s only found at the top. If you’re someone who really enjoys that flavor in your foods, you might have to swirl the meatball around to get more of that sauce coverage on more than just one spot of the meatball.

Next to arrive were the lovely Snakebite Bao Buns! Remember when we said earlier we’d come back around to Reggie, well, that time is now. These little guys come served in Reggie the snake’s pet cage (name tag and all). They’re made of a pair of bao buns stuffed with smoked brisket, ají amarillo mustard, peppadew relish, pickled onion, and tomato which will cost you $15.

Snakebite Bao Buns

These little guys have just the right amount of smoked and chewy brisket to accompany the crisp veggies between the relish and pickled onion. Altogether, they create a nice, low heat to really turn up the flavor.

Uncaged!

The aji amarillo mustard gave it an interesting flavor and against the smoky brisket meat, it almost tasted like a burger slider. We thought these were excellent but the sad part is there’s only two of them to enjoy so if you’re really after value, one of the other light bites might be the better pick for you (because we’re not sharing the next time we order these things)!

Cross section of the bao bun

Now we’re soaring right on into our next appetizer, the Air Tours Bacon and Waffles. These little guys were even more “on the nose” than the last few presentations. This is made of spiced candied bacon, chorizo waffles, and honey balsamic syrup in a syringe and will run you $14. They’re all served on a wooden airplane post where the candied bacon strips look like they’re hung up with clips to dry out. Truly we can’t get enough of this place and how it doesn’t take itself too seriously!

Air Tours Bacon & Waffles

The candied bacon here is perfected down to a science! It’s well cooked, crisp to the touch and crunches when you break off a piece or bite into it. It’s thoroughly coated in that candied coating.

Candied bacon

But, don’t get us wrong, there’s a little bit of a low heat to these little guys too! They’re a low to medium spicy heat but the waffles have bits of chorizo cooked into them that gives it an interesting savory flavor against the fluffy waffle.

2024-wdw-disney-springs-ds-the-landing-j

See the chorizo?

Watch out though because your tastebuds are really in for a treat after you squeeze some of the honey balsamic syrup over it.

2024-wdw-disney-springs-ds-the-landing-j

Waffle with the syrup

Our only complaint here was that the syringe for the syrup is fairly small so we found ourselves rationing the syrup between the two to give the maximum efficiency of sweet to savory ration in our two waffle bites.

Last but certainly not least it was time for the Shrimp Fried Rice Bites! These were some of what we were most excited to try and we’re happy to report they were worth the wait. They’re made of breaded rice bites accompanied by shishito peppers and sweet-and-sour sauce to dip or drizzle over your bites. These will set you back $14.

Shrimp Fried Rice Bites

These were DIVINE. Our reporter doesn’t even typically like rice bites but said she couldn’t get enough of these! The outer crust of the rice bite may appear similar to a hushpuppy but once you break into the center of it, the rice is soft and tender.

2024-wdw-disney-springs-ds-the-landing-j

Bites with the peppers

We were served 6 of these bites with our order and they were quite large! If you find you can’t get enough of the sweet-and-sour sauce to dip your rice bites into…

2024-wdw-disney-springs-ds-the-landing-j

Side of sweet-and-sour sauce

…there’s a bit more included at the top of the cone that’s served to you (you know, for extra backup just hanging around).

2024-wdw-disney-springs-ds-the-landing-j

More at the top!

There’s a low heat to these as well, but not nearly as much as was in the chorizo waffles — its more of a flash of heat that’s fleeting when you get more of the sweet and sour sauce.

2024-wdw-disney-springs-ds-the-landing-j

Inside look at the rice bite!

If you’re really wanting to keep that heat going though, we suggest taking small bites of the shishito peppers along to really amp up the flavor!

Overall

This restaurant is a great option to come to alone, for an intimate date night filled with fun and laughter, or even a small group gathering. While it’s a cozier restaurant in size compared to others around Disney Springs, it’s definitely marching to the beat of its own drum and it’s got quite the menu to back it up.

Menu outside of sharable plates

We highly recommend making space in your next Disney World visit to pop by for some light bites and drinks — we don’t think you’ll be disappointed!

Nosh or Not?

Venture on out to Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar if…

  • You’re a fan of sharable eats with storytelling settings. This entire place feels like you’ve stepped through the movie set of a classic film franchise, and some folks just love being wrapped up in the atmosphere of it all. It’s a prime spot for anyone whether you’re dining alone or with a group of friends and family!
  • You don’t mind a spicy kick to your meals. While not everything is spicy here, we did have several dishes that had a low or medium heat to them with each bite. If this sounds right up your alley, then hop aboard!
  • You’re a huge movie buff and love all things Indiana Jones! You truly can’t escape being enveloped into such an immersive setting, and like we said before, the right person could entertain themselves for hours simply by looking around.

Hit the road if…

  • This entire theming is just not your style. While you don’t have to know a lot about Indiana Jones to appreciate a good meal here, the theming is everywhere. If you’re looking for something a little less dramatic, you might find solice dining elsewhere.
  • Bars and lounges aren’t your ideal restaurant. If you’re looking for an entree-style table service meal, this restaurant simply isn’t built for that so you’re better served elsewhere.
  • You’re just not willing to do the crowds. As we mentioned before this is a smaller dining spot and at certain times of the year and days of the week, Disney Springs is known to get a little, well… peopley. If crowds just aren’t for you, then we could totally understand you looking for somewhere else to eat.
