As we count down the days to Moana 2 splashing into theatres on November 27th, we have our eyes (and ears) peeled for any updates surrounding the film. Recently, the official Disney Music account on X (formerly Twitter) shared a video that features a sneak peek of the new song “We’re Back” from the film.

The video features the trailer for Moana 2, letting us in on the new movie’s storyline. This time, Moana is embarking on another journey with new friends and a returning favorite character in tow (let’s go team Maui!). The new song, called ‘We’re Back”, highlights Moana’s excitement at returning to her island, as well as Motunui’s return to their heritage of wayfinding and exploring.

The themes of connection and identity in the song really hit us in the feels, as well as the beautiful vocals and instrumentation, and we are excited about Moana’s new journey. We bet it’s bound to be a tear-jerker (happy tears, we hope!). Many fans have commented things on the Facebook post of this video including “Can’t wait!” and “I’m so excited!” so it seems like the movie is already being received well!

It’s also important to note that although Lin Manuel Miranda created the music for the first Moana film and is working on the live-action adaptation, Moana 2 has a new composer. Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear wrote the music for Moana 2.

The song was first teased back at D23 with a stunning live performance by Auli’i Cravalho (voice of Moana), featuring drummers and dancers dressed in beautiful costumes inspired by the film, and also welcoming to the stage Dwayne Johnson (voice of Maui). A new official trailer was also released at the time and showcased to all 15,000 fans inside of the Honda Center.

If you’re just as excited as we are and can’t wait for the movie’s premiere, there are a couple of ways to get your Moana fix till then. Disney+ has Moana available to stream and, if you’re headed to EPCOT anytime soon, you can explore Journey of Water and interact with water in a whole new way. And, if you want to meet the star of the film, Moana also meets at World Nature, near the entrance of this attraction from time to time, as well as at Character Landing over at Animal Kingdom.
