But, we also know that there are so many other iconic theme parks across the country that deserve all the love and hype from theme park fans. And soon enough, there may be a new one to add to the list! South Dakota is getting their largest family entertainment destination with Liberty Land in Rapid City! Planned for the area near Mall Drive and Lacrosse Street, this new amusement park will be a total game-changer for local fun and adventure. ©Storyland Studios Approved by Rapid City Council back in December 2022, Liberty Land is set to be a 300-acre property with a “themed RV Resort, amusement park, indoor/outdoor amphitheater, an indoor water park, a neighborhood with dining, housing, shopping and a hotel and conference center”. The theme for this amusement park is a celebration of the American spirit of the West, set in The Black Hills of South Dakota. ©Storyland Studios Vicki Fisher, The City Council’s Development Director, is confident that Liberty Land will put South Dakota on the map, competing with the likes of Disneyland and Universal Studios. “We have an issue in our community to ensure entertainment, especially for our young people, our young adults. Obviously, there’s many outdoor activities. There’s other activities that one can participate in, but it’s limited,” Fisher said. ©Storyland Studios Though construction hasn’t kicked off yet for this massive project, the first phase is expected to be completed by 2030.
