Disney4me
BREAKING BREAKFAST NEWS! Satu’li Canteen One of our absolute favorite restaurants in all of Disney World just brought its breakfast menu back! Satu’li Canteen inside Pandora: World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is a stellar quick-service spot that features build-your-own bowls and the iconic cheeseburger pods during lunch and dinner, but right now we’re taking you with us to check out the newly returned breakfast menu at Satu’li Canteen! Atmosphere Satu’li Canteen is a space that celebrates the culture and art of the Na’vi of Pandora. Fitting right in with the story of the land, the space was originally a mess hall for the RDA (Resource Development Administration). However, ACE (Alpha Centauri Expeditions) repurposed the hall into the peaceful dining spot that explorers can experience when visiting Pandora today. Satu’li Canteen You’ll find plenty of seating outside, under a covered awning — so even if it’s raining, you should be able to grab a seat here. But, if sitting outside doesn’t tickle your fancy, you’ll also find plenty of seating inside the restaurant as well. Inside seating Since this is a quick-service restaurant, you can order from a Cast Member at the counter… Counter …or Mobile Order, which is what we did. Menu The menu is “inspired by Pandora’s bounty,” with an international influence on the cuisine. Customizable bowls and Steamed Pods (twists on Bao Buns) along with unique drinks and desserts are available during lunch and dinner, but we’re here to try the newly returning breakfast menu! NEW breakfast menu items at Satu’li Canteen When Satu’li Canteen first opened in 2017, breakfast was served here (and we LOVED it!) — but it has been missing for years now. The current breakfast menu is made up of items we’ve tried before — so we’re excited to check them out this time around! Eats We’re starting off strong with the Slow Roasted Pork Shoulder Potato Hash with Chorizo Sausage and Charred Onion Sauce for $13.29. Back in the day, this was our FAVORITE of the breakfast items — but how do we feel this time around? Slow Roasted Pork Shoulder Hash The hash was a mixture of sweet potatoes and regular potatoes, but there were far more sweet potatoes which gave this dish an overall “fall” flavor profile, which we enjoyed. The charred onion sauce has a strong allium flavor, but there are plenty of herbs that make the sauce taste fresh and bright and it goes well with the sautéed peppers. The roasted pork shoulder is mixed into the hash, and it’s incredibly rich, tender, and pairs nicely with the potato hash. The piece of chorizo sausage you get is HUGE — you’ll definitely need a knife for this thing. It’s fairly spicy — a bit hotter than what we typically see with Disney’s spice level — so keep that in mind if you’re averse. Unfortunately, we found a piece of bone in our sausage, but overall we really enjoyed this dish. Slow Roasted Pork Shoulder Hash Next up, we tried Cinnamon French Toast for $12.99. This is served with Blueberry Cream Cheese, Passion Fruit Anglaise, and Sausage. We enjoyed this when we had it in the past, but we did find it a bit dry. Cinnamon French Toast This time around was much of the same. The French toast itself was dry and tough to cut through with just a fork — we ended up using a knife as well. We’re used to French toast being soft and decadent, and this was not that. However, the blueberry cream cheese and passionfruit glaze were SO good. The cream cheese is sweet and pairs well with what little cinnamon flavor we could taste, while the glaze added a tang and moistness that the dish was desperately in need of. The French toast was served with your basic breakfast sausage, which was fatty, salty and had a nice snap to it — but it wasn’t anything to write home about! Cinnamon French Toast We also grabbed the Frittata and Beef for $14.29. This is a Vegetable-Goat Cheese Frittata with Wood-fired Beef tossed in Chimichurri sauce. This was another hit for us back in the day — and this time around Frittata and Beef Starting with the frittata — which was loaded with peppers and onions that seemed to be concentrated at the top. The egg was light and fluffy, but it was pretty underseasoned and could have benefitted from some salt and pepper — but the bites that included the peppers and onions with goat cheese were really great! This dish is served with a side of shaved beef — the same kind you’d find in the build-your-own bowls at lunch and dinner. It’s served cold and is such a flavor bomb! There’s a rich, meaty flavor to it but it’s decently seasoned with salt and pepper. It’s tender and chewy without being overly so. The greens served on the side are tossed in what appeared to be oil and weren’t anything too special, but if you want to start your day with bitter greens — this is your chance. Frittata and Beef Finally, we tried the Tropical Pandoran Forest Fruits for $11.99, which is with Fresh Yogurt, Muesli, and Honey. If you’re looking for something on the lighter side, this fits that bill. Tropical Pandoran Forest Fruits This may have been our reporter’s favorite of the breakfast items this time around, which was surprising to her because it was SO simple. It’s flavorful and fresh, and a great, lighter breakfast option if you’ve got a day full of eating ahead of you — but one that will still keep you full. The muesli was perfectly crispy and had a cinnamony flavor, and the yogurt was mild — we’re pretty sure it was vanilla flavored. The dried mixed raisins added a nice texture, while the fresh kiwi, pineapple, and strawberries were a burst of flavor that really rounded the entire dish out. Tropical Pandoran Forest Fruits So, what’s our verdict on the return of breakfast at Satu’li Canteen?! Overall While not every aspect of each dish was a hit for us this time around, we did enjoy our breakfast at Satu’li Canteen. The Tropical Pandoran Forest Fruits were a surprise hit, and the Slow-Roasted Pork Shoulder Hash is a hearty option that we’ll definitely be getting again. Full spread Still, this newly returned breakfast is incredibly welcome as Animal Kingdom lacks many quick breakfast options other than a basic breakfast sandwich here and there. And, if you’re planning on rope-dropping either of the rides in Pandora, this is a new option that you won’t have to walk far to find! Nosh or Not Make a stop at Satu’li Canteen for breakfast if… You want a quick and hearty meal before starting your Animal Kingdom day. You’re looking for breakfast that’s a bit elevated from what you’d normally expect from a theme park. You worked up an appetite after rope-dropping Flight of Passage or Na’vi River Journey. Consider going elsewhere if… You’re looking for a large, sit-down meal with Disney characters. You want more traditional fare like Mickey waffles.
