Disney4me
Happy holidays, everyone! We are ready for a jolly good evening! We are so excited to be checking out Jollywood Nights in Disney’s Hollywood Studios tonight — there’s so much entertainment to enjoy, decorations to admire, characters to meet, and of course, food to eat! If you’re heading to the party later this month and want to already have planned out what you’d like to grab, check out our reviews of everything we ate below! We’ll continue to update this post as we review snacks throughout the night, so stay tuned for more! Trolley Car Cafe First up, we’re starting off with a sweet treat at Trolley Car Cafe! Trolley Car Cafe Over at the Trolley Car Cafe, we grabbed the Agent P Croissant for $5.29! This is a Waffle croissant dipped in caramel-chocolate and topped with mint cream, a chocolate hat, and M&M’S Milk Chocolate Candies. This was heavy on the mint chocolate flavor so if you don’t love mint, we say skip. Agent P Croissant The pastry itself left us wanting more. We had high hopes for the waffle/croissant combo, but this didn’t deliver for us. We were first in line, but they tasted stale already which was disappointing. We do give this snack extra points for the tiny hat in honor of Perry himself. The theming of this snack is cute, but it was not our favorite. Dockside Diner Next up, for any plant-based eaters out there, this is for you! Dockside Diner You’ll want to head over to Dockside Diner where you can try the Samosas for $5.29, which are Potato and pea stuffed samosas with curried chickpeas, herb “crema,” and tomato-pomegranate chutney. Jollywood Nights Menu The samosas themselves are two small triangles flanking the chickpeas and chutney. The dollops of herb crema are deliciously fresh, not salty, and add a nice cooling contrast to the spiced chickpeas. If you’re sensitive to spice, salt, or seasonings, we want to warn you—these little puffs pack a serious punch. Most of the heat and salt come from the curry-spiced chickpeas, which are delicious but really rely on the tomato pomegranate chutney to be more palatable for the average taste, especially for those with a sensitivity to strong flavors. Samosas Speaking of the chutney, we didn’t detect any pomegranate flavor at all; it’s very tomato-forward and reminds us of pico de gallo, minus the heat. While we enjoyed it, we were expecting a hint of pomegranate, so our one critique is we would have loved to have the pomegranate. Baseline Tap House For something new, we’re going over to Baseline Tap House! Baseline Menu Here you can grab the Macaroni and Cheese Croquette for $5, which is fried macaroni and cheese with aïoli dipping sauce! Macaroni and Cheese Croquette You get two croquettes with an order, which for $5 is not bad in our opinion. The croquettes were crispy on the outside and filled with a pretty standard mac and cheese inside. One of the best deals! The aioli sauce is very strong in flavor. The heat really hit us at first, which we didn’t mind, but if you aren’t a fan of heat, skip this one. Sauce We appreciate the combo of these two together as it makes a delicious snack. While it’s not exactly unique, we like that it’s affordable and still light enough to not be too heavy leaving you room to try more snacks! Cheesy! We also tried the Beer Margarita for $17.50, which is a blend of Patrón Silver Tequila, Cointreau Orange Liqueur, and lime juice topped with Scrimshaw Pilsner served over ice. We felt like this is really pricey for what it is. It is margarita forward, but bubbly tasting beer notes on the back end of the sip. Beer Margarita This wasn’t anything unique to us and for that reason, we’d skip this again. We would love to see them add something to make this festive like different colors or even a glow cube for this price. ABC Commissary We were able to find some favorites here at the ABC Commissary so let’s get to it! Full Spread One of our favorite quick-service spots in Hollywood Studios has a few different options to try, and we started with the plant-based Cauliflower Taco for $4.49. This is made with Chili pepper-lime dusted fried cauliflower on top of a corn tortilla with diced onions, cilantro, and a chipotle cashew “crema.” plant-based Cauliflower Taco This really knocked our socks off! This has a lot of flavor for a plant-based snack and we thought it tasted like meat. The cauliflower was fried perfectly. The corn tortilla tasted fresh and authentic to us, which we really appreciated. All the flavors worked really well together and we would highly recommend this, especially if you are a plant-based eater! Our reporter wanted to go back and order more because she couldn’t get enough of this snack. The creme tasted so great! If you’re looking for something sweet, you can try the Taco ‘bout a Holiday Cookie for $5.79! This is a cranberry cheesecake-filled chocolate cookie dipped in cranberry-white chocolate topped with pistachio whipped cream, gold crispy pearls, chocolate holly leaf décor, and holiday sprinkles. Taco ‘bout a Holiday Cookie This was a hit for us too. Not only is the theming adorable, but it actually is something we enjoyed eating. While we can’t find anything about the cookie being spiced, we got notes of almost a gingerbread flavor to it and we loved it. The cranberry paired really well with that flavor. Delicious! The Coquito for $9 is also available here. This is made with Coconut cream, coconut milk, sweetened condensed milk, Bacardí Rum, and Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum topped with cinnamon. Coquito This one was where we were disappointed. Since the drink had two different brands of rum in it, it was very rum-heavy. Rum was the only flavor we tasted and was really missing the balance of flavor from the coconut cream and milk. This was not a hit for us For $9, we do think this could be a good beverage option, especially if you enjoy rum as it is one of the cheaper cocktails you’ll find. Returning Items Several returning items are back at this year’s event as well! Take a look at our past reviews for these. First up, Fairfax Fare brought back the Holiday Turkey Popover, which is made with roasted turkey and creamy mashed potatoes topped with gravy, cranberry chutney, and chives in a house-made popover. This was basically like all of Thanksgiving dinner in one little snack. The turkey was very tender and juicy, and the cranberry sauce was sweet and complemented it well. However, the mashed potatoes made the whole thing pretty mushy, especially after it sat a while. We didn’t love that consistency. Holiday Turkey Popover The ‘Just the Sides’ Popover is also back in 2024. This one is made with macaroni & cheese and savory collard greens with ham topped with cornbread crumbs in a house-made popover. The mac and cheese was creamy and delicious! There’s a bit of a smokey taste to the greens, which we liked. All of it is served inside a bread roll, which was nice and flaky on the outside. ‘Just the Sides’ Popover For dessert, grab the PB&J Doughnut, which is a glazed doughnut with creamy peanut butter and grape jelly dipped in dark chocolate topped with crushed house-made salt and vinegar chips. This doughnut wasn’t our favorite. It wasn’t quite sweet enough, since there wasn’t enough glaze on the outside. The peanut butter is sticky but smooth, and the jelly is pretty standard. The doughnut itself had a great texture — very soft — but we wished it had more glaze to make the whole thing sweeter. PB&J Doughnut Muppets fans, get ready! Kermit’s Frozen Banana Bliss, which is a non-alcoholic drink made with frozen banana and white chocolate with caramel swirls topped with matcha whipped cream and sprinkles, has also returned! There’s a pretty strong banana flavor, but it was a little bit weird. It almost tasted like matcha, with a really earthy flavor. We liked the caramel sauce mixed in! Kermit’s Frozen Banana Bliss Lastly, you can snag the Mistletoe Martini again! This is made with Tito’s Handmade Vodka and St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur mixed with cranberry juice and topped with fresh cranberries and mint leaves. This was pretty much a spruced-up cranberry martini. It’s sweet but very dry, and the cranberry flavor is strong. The sprig of mint adds a little bit of flavor as well. Mistletoe Martini Epic Eats brought back their iconic funnel cakes! That’s right — the Spicy Korean Chicken Funnel Cake is a classic funnel cake topped with spicy fried Korean chicken and pickled vegetables. Regardless of the added kimchi, this is still chicken and waffles, which is never a bad thing. The kimchi does add a nice fresh take to the typical pairing, though, and the sauce has a sweet tanginess to it. It serves up great crunchy and crispy textures that we love, but we didn’t notice any spice at all. We would order this over and over. Spicy Korean Chicken Funnel Cake For the sweet tooth out there, check out the S’mores Funnel Cake! It’s a mini-funnel cake topped with giant roasted marshmallow with chocolate and marshmallow sauce, topped with chocolate curls and cinnamon cereal…and yes, it’s as sweet as it sounds! I guess that’s what you get when you load a funnel cake up with marshmallow. The gooey topping really overwhelms the other flavors that are trying to sneak out in the dessert. The funnel cake itself is good and crispy on the outside and nice and soft on the inside. Once you get a few bites in, you can find a hint of chocolate. If you’re a fan of marshmallows and sugar, this one’s for you! The Brisket Reuben Funnel Cake did not make the cut this year. S’mores Funnel Cake Although Dockside Diner introduced the new Samosas this year for us to try (as reviewed above), several of last year’s items are still on the menu. That includes Spicy Pimento-Kimchi Dip which is topped with chives and served with fresh house-made wonton chips. This is a unique fusion of classic foods combining the savory soul food classic and a popular Korean condiment. Pimento Cheese — traditionally made with shredded Cheddar, mayonnaise, and pimentos. It’s commonly served with crackers and vegetables or as a sandwich filling. Kimchi is a traditional Korean dish made with salted and fermented vegetables, usually cabbage with ginger and garlic and some Korean chili flake (gochugaru) for a little kick. So does this marriage of Korean + Southern cuisine deliver? Well, we sure loved it! It’s creamy and has a very mild spice to it. The topping is the only bit of kimchi that we could find on the dish, and it has a bit of acidity to it like you’d find in slaw. Kimchi Pimento Cheese Dip Poutine Potato Bites topped with gravy, brisket, mozzarella curds, and chives are also back! Last year, we were a bit disappointed with this dish. The flavors and textures just didn’t work together as well as we wanted them to. The curds were also rubbery — which added an unpleasant texture to the dish. The brisket was inconsistent — good in some places but not so great in others. The tots were just regular ol’ tots. Poutine Tots For a sweet treat here, you can grab the Christmas Tree Cookie Stack — a vanilla cookie stack filled with pistachio buttercream, cranberry, and raspberry jam topped with sprinkles and a yellow candy star. This was interesting! The pistachio flavor was definitely there but was very subtle. The cookie was vanilla-flavored but we picked up on some notes of cinnamon. The cranberries were nice and sweet! This treat is easily sharable. Christmas Tree Cookie Stack Sandy Claws Hot Cocoa AKA dark chocolate hot cocoa topped with cherry whipped cream is around as well. It’s a DELICIOUS drink. It’s thick, creamy, and tastes like real hot chocolate — not the packaged stuff. The cherry whipped cream tastes more like grenadine than tart cherry, and it works well with the hot chocolate. Sandy Claws Hot Chocolate It’s back!!! The ICONIC Christmas Gertie Cookie can be found at various lounges and outdoor snack carts this year! This is a sugar cookie with mint icing, and it’s good, but it’s even better for photos. The cookie is soft but also has a crunch! It’s pretty sweet as it is an iced sugar cookie. It was served with ice cream last year, however, it seems it’s just the cookie for 2024. But we aren’t complaining! It’s Gertie! Also, the legit SPICY Buffalo Chicken Spring Rolls have returned to Market this year! These are Fried spring rolls served with a jalapeño-ranch dipping sauce and fried rice noodles. Be prepared. These are ACTUALLY spicy. Like, our mouth was still burning a few minutes later. The chicken inside is in little chunks, and there’s a significant amount of spicy buffalo flavor. The ranch is nice as a side but doesn’t cool them down much, so you’re gonna need a drink to wash these spring rolls down. This was a great little snack if you want something with a kick. It’s not ridiculously hot, but it’s spicy in terms of Disney standards. Buffalo Chicken Spring Rolls We can’t wait to explore the rest of this exciting event, so stay tuned to DFB for the rest of our fun-filled night! It’s Time!
